The Sony-managed website gran-turismo.com now features a <a href="http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/news/?t=gt6">product listing</a> for the as-of-yet unannounced <i>Gran Turismo 6</i>. Currently, the link in question leads to its own unique (if empty) page; further URL manipulation produces generic results.<br />
<br />
The discovery yields no details, but Sony is expected to announce a new entry in Polyphony Digital's driving simulation series at an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/sony-expected-to-announce-new-gran-turismo-title-next-week/">anniversary event</a> tomorrow in the UK. Drivers, start your...<i>waiting</i>.<br />

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is expected to announce the next entry in Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo series next week during an <a href="http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/news/00_5806733.html">anniversary event</a> held at Silverstone Circuit in the UK.<br />
<br />
While specifics regarding the next Gran Turismo title are not yet known, Sony notes that designer Kazunori Yamauchi will be present at the event on May 15 to discuss the future of the series, and promises that "something big" will be revealed. Today, May 8, marks the 15th anniversary of the European release of the original PlayStation <i>Gran Turismo</i> title.<br />
<br />
Given the timing of the event -- and considering <i>Gran Turismo 5</i>'s extended development period -- it's likely that the next entry in Polyphony Digital's driving simulation series will be announced for the PlayStation 4, though no details have been confirmed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/sony-expected-to-announce-new-gran-turismo-title-next-week/">Sony expected to announce new Gran Turismo title next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 May 2013 19:00:00 EST. Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> is in the slipstream of double figures, now up to 9 million units sold worldwide. While it still ranks as the lowest-selling main entry in the series (on PS3), it's closing in on fourth-placed <em>Gran Turismo 2</em> (9.4 million).<br /><br />The majority of those 67.89 million series sales come from <em>Gran Turismo 3</em>, <em>Gran Turismo 4</em>, and the original <em>Gran Turismo</em>, speeding in at 14.9, 11.6, and 10.9 million respectively. As impressive as those figures are, Gran Turismo isn't the best-selling racing series out there. That accolade belongs to Need for Speed, which drove past <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/need-for-speed-series-sells-100m-copies-earns-2-7b-life-to-dat/">100 million sales</a> back in 2009. We somehow suspect the two series' sales-per-game figures tell a different story.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/07/gran-turismo-now-cruising-at-67-8-million-series-sales-gt5-over/">Gran Turismo now cruising at 67.89 million series sales, GT5 over 9 million</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Nov 2012 14:00:00 EST. Not to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/naked-snake-no-more-metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-clothing-line/">be outdone</a> by another blockbuster franchise -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></a> -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo"><em>Gran Turismo</em></a> brand has spawned its own clothing line. But where Konami is going for authenticity to its game and characters, Sony is focusing on neatly cut (and expensive!) coats and shirts.<br />
<br />
Being sold through the <a href="http://www.shop.us.gran-turismo.com/">newly launched Gran Turismo Boutique</a>, the threads range from a $25 T-Shirt with barely a hint of <em>GT</em> branding up to a $200 "endurance jacket" with the series logo embroidered across the back.<br />
<br />
Here's hoping the site's shipping isn't as delay-plagued as the series the clothing represents.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/07/gran-turismo-goes-from-racing-lines-to-clothing-line/">Gran Turismo goes from racing lines to clothing line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Apr 2011 07:00:00 EST. Sony Japan is <a href="http://www.1up.com/news/gran-turismo-5-free-limited">putting a special Christmas gift</a> in the stockings of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/games/gran-turismo-5">Gran Turismo 5</a> </em>owners in that territory. From December 24 to January 31, Japanese <em>GT5</em> drivers will be able to download a Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, a BMW M3 Coupe and a Jaguar XJ13 completely free for use in the game. The Lambo and the Beemer were originally included in the game's collector's edition, and the Jag was a promotional extra from Facebook.<br />
<br />
The promotion is currently for Japan only, so you US and European players will have to live with the usual coal in your stocking. Maybe next year, try not being so naughty?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/gran-turismo-5-gets-three-free-premium-cars-for-christmas-in/">Gran Turismo 5 gets three free premium cars for Christmas ... in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 03:00:00 EST. You didn't really think that work was finished on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a>, did you? Car-obsessed creator Kazunori Yamauchi has been fielding questions from fans on <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/Kaz_Yamauchi">his Twitter feed</a> (translated at <a href="http://www.gtplanet.net/yamauchi-on-gt5s-mechanical-damage-updates-more/">GTPlanet</a>), revealing that a variety of fixes are in the works -- but also shedding light on some features we'll probably never see.<br />
<br />
Yamauchi confirms that his team at Polyphony Digital is working to implement mechanical -- not just cosmetic -- damage in <em>GT5 </em>sometime in early December. Less time-consuming fixes include nixing the game's odd-looking "blocky" shadows, adding more online functionality (the lounge is mentioned) and possibly offering the option to disable the HUD overlay. Work to support Logitech's G25 and G27 racing wheels in still underway, he adds.<br />
<br />
As for what we won't be seeing, it sounds like face-tracking in GT mode and YouTube uploading of replays are out due to memory constraints. We'll also never get a chance to experience the cut "free roam" mode, in which players would have been able to drive around the gameworld, obeying traffic laws and stopping to get out of their cars to explore on foot. We imagine this was referred to internally as the "We Need Another Year of Development Time" mode.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/yamauchi-talks-future-gran-turismo-5-updates-cut-features/">Yamauchi talks future Gran Turismo 5 updates, cut features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Nov 2010 20:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> opens with a lengthy, ostentatious video that chronicles the construction of a car, from the mining of the metals that comprise it to the moment it rolls out of the factory, race-ready. These precisely edited visuals lead into a user interface that's so pristine and so polished that it left no doubt in my mind: the reason <em>GT5 </em>has been in development for so long, so delayed, is that it was <em>never</em> going to be perfect enough for series boss Kazunori Yamauchi. He's clearly a perfectionist, and as a result has made a good game, albeit one that's been driven down a very narrow path to end up something only a subset of gamers will truly enjoy.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/24/gran-turismo-5-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gran Turismo 5 review: Driven by perfection</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/24/gran-turismo-5-review/">Gran Turismo 5 review: Driven by perfection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Nov 2010 03:01:00 EST. Firmly adhering to the "better late than never" philosophy, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> is more than glad to show off its new crash physics system in one of two new videos released by SCEA. <br />
In this interview, Yoshida casually confirms the existence of unannounced elements in the racing sim, including a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/rumor-gran-turismo-5-to-feature-track-editor/">track editor</a> and go-karts. For every individual driver, Yoshida says there is
<meta charset="utf-8">"
<meta charset="utf-8">a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races."<br />
<br />
Elsewhere in the interview (and just as nonchalantly), Yoshida references some "
<meta charset="utf-8">new game-enhancing graphical effects, such as damage, night racing and weather." Damage has already been confirmed and weather <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/damage-coming-to-gt5-weather-possible-for-final-release/">rumored</a>.<br />
<br />
Of course, we aren't totally sure <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> is a real game yet, and if it is as imaginary as it seems to be, you can say pretty much <em>anything</em> is in it, like: "<em>Gran Turismo 5</em> will feature Crocodile Mile racing." See? There's as much proof for that feature that we just made up as there is for anything else, and that will be the case until the game is released. <br />
<br />

A small crowd of movie and game producers met this week at Universal City in Los Angeles for the first-ever <a href="http://www.3dgamingsummit.com/index.html">3D Gaming Summit</a>, to sit down and discuss the trend of 3D imaging in gaming and film. Much of the talk at the summit was speculative -- with almost no actual consumer devices on the market and nearly none within price range of the average consumer anyway, gaming in 3D isn't much more than an idea at this point. Most of the technology companies in attendance are still working to get content producers to use their systems to create games and films rather than selling hardware directly to consumers.<br />
<br />
Still, the panels and discussions at the summit offered an interesting look at what many believe to be the eventual future of the industry. From a lunchtime interview with <em>Mortal Kombat </em>and <em>Resident Evil</em> director Paul W.S. Anderson to a Playstation Move demo (and a panel moderated by a Joystiq editor), the 3D Gaming Summit showed off a lot of guesswork, a few interesting demos, and a few big holes that will need to be filled if 3D gaming is going to ever take off.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/24/3d-gaming-summit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Finding a new dimension for gaming at the 3D Gaming Summit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/24/3d-gaming-summit/">Finding a new dimension for gaming at the 3D Gaming Summit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Apr 2010 15:00:00 EST. It's been a while since we last saw images from Polyphony Digital's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> -- at least ones that were capable of moving whilst being accompanied by high-octane trance music. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54P9jX-ekno">Such moving pictures</a> were released earlier today, likely in an attempt to remind us just how pretty the game really is. (Here's a refresher course: It's <em>super</em> pretty.)<br />
<br />
You can check out the trailer posted after the jump, but we suggest having some ninjas around when you watch it, because the music will <em>totally</em> make you want to fight some ninjas. More than usual.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/08/gran-turismo-5-nights-trailer-is-appropriately-unlit-pretty/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gran Turismo 5 'Nights' trailer is appropriately unlit, pretty</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/08/gran-turismo-5-nights-trailer-is-appropriately-unlit-pretty/">Gran Turismo 5 'Nights' trailer is appropriately unlit, pretty</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Mar 2010 22:30:00 EST. It's been nearly two years since EA Sports <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/moore-no-plans-right-now-for-new-nascar-installment/">called it quits</a> on the NASCAR franchise (a little less if you count <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nascar-kart-racing"><em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em></a>). NASCAR gamers are growing impatient and, for better or for worse, will have to wait for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/sony-europe-dont-worry-gran-turismo-5-will-be-out-before-chri/">perpetually-delayed</a> <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> to get their NASCAR fix.<br />
<br />
At the very least, fans can take comfort in knowing that Blake Davidson, managing director of licensed products at NASCAR, has incredible faith in the game. "They're going to do it better than anybody's ever done it before," he stated in a video posted on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/gran-turismo-does-nascar-polyphony-digital-at-texas-motor-speedway/">PlayStation.Blog</a>. "It's really the next step for us, it's the best depiction of what NASCAR cars are in any driving game to date." Certainly a bold statement, considering NASCAR is just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/gran-turismo-5-trailer-reveals-damage-system-amongst-other-feat/">one feature</a> in the racer.<br />
<br />
According to Davidson, one of the reasons why NASCAR teamed up with Polyphony Digital is the recommendation of one of the sports most famous racers today. "Dale Earnhardt, Jr. himself actually came to us and said 'you really need to look at Polyphony Digital. They're a great developer, the best in the world at what they do.'"<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/05/nascar-director-calls-gran-turismo-5-the-best-nascar-game-to-dat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NASCAR director calls Gran Turismo 5 the best NASCAR game to date</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/05/nascar-director-calls-gran-turismo-5-the-best-nascar-game-to-dat/">NASCAR director calls Gran Turismo 5 the best NASCAR game to date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 17:15:00 EST. We hate to be all Captain Obvious about it, but there's good reason the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo">Gran Turismo</a> </em>series is still doing laps around the virtual track. People are voting with their cash, as <a href="http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html">the latest figures from Polyphony Digital</a> show that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/review-gran-turismo-psp/"><em>Gran Turismo PSP</em></a> has managed to sell 1.8 million copies. And through its success, it's hit one hell of a milestone for the <em>Gran Turismo </em>series at large. Here's the rundown of the franchise's success:<br />
<ul class="jim">
    <li>The original <em>Gran Turismo</em> has sold 10,850,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo 2</em> has sold 9,370,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo 3 A-spec</em> on the PS2 managed to sell 14,890,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo Concept Series</em> sold 1,560,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo 4 "Prologue"</em> invaded 1,350,000 homes</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo 4</em> has been a heck of an earner, selling 10,980,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo 5</em> <em>"Prologue"</em> brought the series to the PS3 by selling 4,650,000 units</li>
    <li><em>Gran Turismo PSP</em> recently recorded sales of 1,800,000 units</li>
</ul>
That brings the total to 55,450,000 units. It seems impressive enough -- over five million units sold <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/gran-turismo-series-reaches-50-million-milestone/">in the last year-and-a-half</a> ain't too shabby -- though there are some caveats. <br />
<br />
For one, the <em>Gran Turismo</em> series has been around for over 10 years -- much longer than any of its competitors. Secondly, it's been the definitive diehard simulation racing experience on Sony's consoles, effectively making it the only show in town. Finally, the series has over seven Guinness World Records. Basically, when you have the world record for "Largest Instruction Guide for a Racing Game," it's, like, a guarantee people are going to buy it. <br />

The vice president in charge of "Southern Europe" (read: Spain, Portugal) at Sony Computer Entertainment isn't a man to mince words. No sir, James Armstrong answered his recent interview question from <a href="http://www.canariasaldia.com/noticia.php?noticia_id=173601">Canarias Al Dia</a> on the subject of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5">Gran Turismo 5</a></em>'s release date with rock solid certainty: "We believe that we will launch the product this Autumn, before the holiday, though this hasn't been decided yet" [our translation].<br />
<br />
Alright, so Armstrong wasn't exactly 100 percent nailing down a date for the game that's been delayed more than a few times (Sony most recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/gran-turismo-5-delayed-in-japan-new-date-unknown/">pushed back its Japanese release</a> to an unknown date). However, it is nice to see someone at Sony saying the sim might actually see release before the end of this console cycle. Oh, and in case you were wondering, he also puts doubt on the use of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sony-motion-controller">Sony's Motion Controller</a> in the game, so at least we've got that knowledge to console us in the meantime.<br />

If you're someone who loves themselves some arbitrary console performance figures, Polyphony Digital boss <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kazunori-yamauchi">Kazunori Yamauchi</a> has you covered. Speaking to <a href="http://games.venturebeat.com/2010/01/14/gran-turismos-creator-takes-a-fifth-stab-at-a-perfect-racing-game/">VentureBeat</a>, the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo">Gran Turismo</a></em> creator reckons <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5">the latest game</a> in Sony's flagship racing series taps "about 80 percent of the processing power" of the PlayStation 3," adding, "the PS3 hardware has a very high peak performance. The better you manipulate it, the better it performs."<br />
<br />
That last quote sounds more like it's about an engine than a console, which isn't surprising given the amount of time Yamauchi spends behind the wheel of the actual supercars from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/gran-turismo-5-delayed-in-japan-new-date-unknown/">his oft-delayed game</a>. We seriously hope he's not aiming to use <em>100 percent </em>of the system's potential -- we'd really like <em>GT5</em> to come out before a child born today is able to drive a <em>real</em> car.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/yamauchi-gran-turismo-5-uses-80-of-ps3s-power/">Yamauchi: Gran Turismo 5 uses 80% of PS3's power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. Sony apologized for the inconvenience, citing some kind of "circumstances" around the release date. No concrete information was provided about <em>what</em> exactly caused this drastic move.<br />
<br />
Things seemed to be looking up for <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> for a while. Sony announced a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">March release</a> for Japan and a tentative <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/12/gran-turismo-5-dev-says-sony-targeting-a-summer-2010-north-ame/">summer release</a> for North America, sent out a very popular <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/gran-turismo-5-time-trial-demo-races-into-one-million-european/">demo</a>, and even revealed the North American <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/06/gran-turismo-5-is-real-enough-for-box-art/">box art design</a>. But this latest move suggests that Polyphony's latest racer may not be as close to the finish line as expected.<br />

Sony sent out a press release this morning stating that across "15 European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand," one million gamers have downloaded and played <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/gran-turismo-5-demo-races-to-euro-psn-on-december-17/">the <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> demo</a>. The demo -- which is available on PSN up until January 24 -- allows players to tear around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a Nissan 370Z to set a lap time, with the top 20 players from select regions earning a chance to join the GT Academy. <br />
<br />
It's the second gameplay tease for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a>, the first being the oft-praised <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5-prologue"><em>GT5 Prologue</em></a>, and shows us that, <em>surprisingly</em>, people want to play this <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> game. <em><small>Click for high-resolution box art.</small></em></div>
2010 is totally the future. How can we tell? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/12/gran-turismo-5-dev-says-sony-targeting-a-summer-2010-north-ame/">actually come out</a>. Half a decade after <em>Gran Turismo 4</em>, Polyphony Digital is finishing up a true successor to the self-described "real driving simulator." The evidence? Box art!<br />
<br />
Mercedes-Benz's gull-winged <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/2011-mercedes-benz-sls-amg-first-drive/">SLS AMG</a> has the honor of gracing the <em>GT5</em> cover. It's a terrific marketing decision, if only to trick <em>Back to the Future</em> fans into thinking this is a game all about time travel. (It's not, we're afraid.)<br />

At a recent press event held for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5">Gran Turismo 5</a></em>, associate producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda let slip that Sony is "eying" a Summer 2010 for the game on this side of the Pacific. <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/gran-turismo-5-gets-targeted-for-summer-2010-release-157655.phtml">Destructoid</a> reports that Hinojosa-Miranda wouldn't confirm the possibility of DLC for the upcoming title, nor would he commit to there being any difference (content-wise) between the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">Japanese release this March</a> and the eventual North American release. Allegedly "details are coming soon," and there's always that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/gran-turismo-5-demo-races-to-euro-psn-on-december-17/">demo coming to PSN</a> -- but we were really hoping for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/gran-turismo-5-international-release-likely-early-2010/">early 2010 release</a> that <em>GT5</em> head Kazunori Yamauchi had teased a few months back.<br />

2004: The <em>Lord of the Rings</em> Trilogy comes to an end (winning 11 Academy Awards in the process), John Kerry runs for US President and <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3437455.stm">whales explode</a>. Oh, and <em>Gran Turismo 4</em> releases on PS2.<br /> <br /> Five years later, the public is finally able to get their hands on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> with the first non-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5-prologue"><em>Prologue</em></a> demo. The downloadable demo will be available on both the European and American PSN on December 17th.<br /> <br /> In Europe, the demo will allow players to enter the "GT Academy Time Trial" contest, in which the top 20 players from <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/12/03/gt-academy-2010-launches-december-17th-with-downloadable-time-trial/">select countries</a> will be eligible for a chance to enter the GT Academy. The GT Academy training program will prepare the ultimate <em>GT</em> fan to compete in the European GT4 Cup in a real race-spec Nissan 370Z. <a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/gt5timetrialchallenge/us/">In America</a> and <a href="http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5142.html">Canada</a>, the winner of the time trial will get a trip to the Indianapolis 500. Sure, these are tantalizing grand prizes -- but we're more excited to see that <em>GT5</em> is becoming a <em>real</em> game. Now, how about a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/gran-turismo-5-international-release-likely-early-2010/">release date</a>?<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/12/03/gt-academy-2010-launches-december-17th-with-downloadable-time-trial/">Source</a> - GT Academy 2010 Launches December 17th - PlayStation.Blog.Europe<br /><a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/gt5timetrialchallenge/us/">Source</a> - PlayStation.com - GT5 Time Trial Rules<br /><a href="http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5142.html">Source</a> - Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge Announced<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/gran-turismo-5-demo-races-to-euro-psn-on-december-17/">Gran Turismo 5 demo races to PSN on December 17</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 14:15:00 EST. SCEA just announced that the PS3 app will be available in North America this month! The application works with "select online multiplayer games" for PSP, using the PS3's internet connection. It is currently unknown whether it will support the same list of games available in Japan, but Sony specifically named <em>Gran Turismo</em> and <em>Monster Hunter Freedom Unite</em> as compatible.<br />
<br />
We're hoping that, some time in the next year, Sony will enhance its platforms even more with a new technology called the "space bar." It could really work wonders for adhocParty on PSPgo.<br />

The 1970 Ford Mustang "Trans-Cammer" you see above will soon be getting the digital treatment in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> after taking home this year's <em>Gran Turismo</em> Award honor at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sema">SEMA</a>. For the seventh year in a row, a handful of judges (including <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> lead <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kazunori-yamauchi">Kazunori Yamauchi</a>) chose a car from the auto event for inclusion in an upcoming <em>Gran Turismo</em> title. <br /><br />Yamauchi said of the event, "We have been very pleased with the high quality of vehicles vying for the award the past seven years, and look forward to having this 1970 Ford Mustang 'Trans-Cammer' join our list of distinguished past winners as part of the <em>Gran Turismo </em>franchise." The 1970 Ford Mustang "Trans-Cammer" by Philip Koenen follows Marcel Horn's HPA Audi TT in 2007 and Brian Filoteo's high-performance Infiniti G37 in 2008, both seen below in the gallery. <br /><br />

At the annual <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sema/">SEMA car show</a> in Las Vegas this week, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> creative lead Kazunori Yamauchi was on-hand demoing his game for showgoers and talking to the press. Amidst a torrent of questions from <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20091103/SEMA/911039983">Autoweek</a>, Yamauchi roughly calculated the cost of creating <em>Gran Turismo 5</em>: a cool $60 million. That's what five years of development on a single game has cost Polyphony Digital thus far, an amount Yamauchi says was totally justified in order to "get it right." <br /><br />"We threw away the legacy code from <em>GT4</em> and started from scratch ... It's been five years from [the release of] <em>GT4</em>, and that's the same amount of time it took to develop the first <em>GT4</em>." And rather than dodging the reasoning behind the lack of a solid <em>GT5</em> release date anywhere outside <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">of Japan</a>, Yamauchi flatly offered, "That's more depending on SCEA marketing decisions." Allow us to venture a guess - <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/delays">first half of 2010</a>, perhaps?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5759">VGChartz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/gran-turismo-5-cost-roughly-60-million-to-develop/">Gran Turismo 5 cost roughly $60 million to develop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 16:58:00 EST. Hopefully we'll find out before the game comes out, although Sony <em>also </em>has yet to announce the release date beyond a possible "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/gran-turismo-5-international-release-likely-early-2010/">early 2010</a>." It's quite clear to us that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> creative director Kazunori Yamauchi knows <em>way</em> more about cars than we do. Take, for instance, this latest making-of video discovered by <a href="http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-packaging-reveals-three-discs/?gr_i_ni">GT Planet</a> (embedded after the break), where he gets down to the nitty gritty on the inclusion of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/11/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-mercedes-sls-amg/">Mercedes' 2011 SLS AMG</a> in his game. Before he delves into the possibility of the car appearing on the game's cover, he's shown with co-workers handling a box with three disc cases -- one blue, one red, one black. Though he makes it clear over the course of the clip that this isn't the final packaging, he doesn't exactly spell out what these mysterious cases might hold. Millions of cars? Top Gear episodes? <em>Micro Machines</em>?! Our best guess is that it's a Collector's Edition of some sort, though we'd love for such a thing to include a miniature SLS AMG (just sayin'!).<br /><br />Getting back to the SLS AMG, Yamauchi says that the to-be-released car is in the running for a starring role on the game's cover. "The foremost reason is that the SLS AMG will probably be the most exciting car in the world <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">when <span style="font-style: italic;">Gran Turismo 5</span> is released</a> ... Also, in terms of styling and driving performance as well, it's probably the hottest car around right now," Yamauchi teases. We've asked Sony for details on the mysterious three-case box and will update this post when we hear more.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Sony has responded by declining to comment. And now we play "The Waiting Game."<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Thanks, Sean]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/gran-turismo-5-making-of-video-reveals-mysterious-packaging/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gran Turismo 5 making-of video reveals mysterious packaging [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/gran-turismo-5-making-of-video-reveals-mysterious-packaging/">Gran Turismo 5 making-of video reveals mysterious packaging [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 13:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a>'s Kazunori Yamauchi says he <em>could</em> give you his studio's next entry in the venerable racing-sim series right now ... but he <em>won't</em>. Speaking with Famitsu last week (translated by <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176462">1UP</a>), the Polyphony Digital studio head explains that while "We could release it any time we want," he's more interested in trying to give the game "that classic <em>GT</em>-style." And though "daily progress is slow," the Japanese developer assures us that "it's still going forward at a steady clip."<br /><br />Unlike the PSP iteration's somewhat <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/review-gran-turismo-psp/">lackluster feature set</a>, Yamauchi intends on going "way beyond gamer expectations" with <em>GT5</em>, even confirming the export of cars earned in <em>GT PSP</em> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">next March's PS3 sequel</a>. We're hoping he goes way beyond our expectations as well and delivers the game to other territories in a more timely fashion.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/gran-turismo-5s-yamauchi-we-could-release-it-any-time-we-want/">Gran Turismo 5's Yamauchi: 'We could release it any time we want'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 17:30:00 EST. <br />Hope your chair has a seatbelt. SCEA has released a brand new batch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> screenshots, this time focusing on the world-renowned Ferrari and Lamborghini brands. Considering these cars go for at least $200,000, <em>GT5</em> will be the closest you'll ever get to ever being inside the cockpit.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/05/buckle-up-for-some-more-gt5-screenshots/">Buckle up for some more GT5 screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Oct 2009 19:00:00 EST. Polyphony Digital's <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo">Gran Turismo</a> </span>racing series has careened onto the PSP, just in time for the launch of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a>. Its arrival on PSN and retail shelves is likely a big event for most <span style="font-style: italic;">Gran Turismo</span> fans, but for me, the game hasn't had the impact I'd expected. There just isn't much here to validate this version of the long-running series as special or unique.<br />

Just watch the interview.<br /><br />Selected excerpts below:<br /><br /><strong>Joystiq: Are there any plans to bring <em>Gran Turismo PSP's</em> "Party Mode" to <em>GT5?</em></strong><br /><br />Yamauchi: I'm glad you noticed that. What we really worked hard to make the PSP portable fun and interesting is in those types of details. Obviously, these are ideas we worked hard on and they will be carried over in some form into <em>GT5</em>.<br /><br />In <em>Gran Turismo, </em>with its ten years of history, the people that who good at playing the game are really, really good at playing the game. Of course, there are a lot of first-time players that want to get into the game, and it was a major theme for us to develop the game so it would be easier for them to get into it. With the party races and these game modes we've developed for the PSP, we've come to one solution for that aspect.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/tgs-2009-interview-gran-turismo-5s-kazunori-yamauchi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 2009: Interview: Gran Turismo 5's Kazunori Yamauchi</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/tgs-2009-interview-gran-turismo-5s-kazunori-yamauchi/">TGS 2009: Interview: Gran Turismo 5's Kazunori Yamauchi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 12:19:00 EST. Sony announced a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-gran-turismo-5-coming-to-japan-in-march/">March release</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5/"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> at Tokyo Game Show last week, a release window that was specifically targeted for the Japanese market. However, don't expect a surprise 2009 release (sorry <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Gran-Turismo-5-Playstation-3/dp/B002BSA1C6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1254147851&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a>!). "I don't think it's going to be that different for US and Europe," Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi told journalists at a <em>GT5</em> event last week. "Marketing is still discussing their issues," which is the reason why a specific date hasn't been pegged yet for those markets.<br /><br />Yamauchi then went on to list a befuddling list of features that should ship on the disc next year. GT Mode will return with all the features of classic <em>GT</em> games, like the garage, the car dealer, the tuning shop, and license tests. However, more exciting are the new features, such as a brand-new physics model that includes damage and deformation for all "normal" cars. Hybrid and electric cars are going to be added to the livery, too, with over 950 cars available on the disc. There will also be over 70 variations of over 20 locations to race through.<br /><br />The online features have been expanded to include both text and voice chat, with support for lobbies and private rooms. There will be online photo albums and online replay albums as well; with the ability to export replays to YouTube. Gran Turismo TV, the video service introduced in <em>Gran Turismo 5 Prologue</em> will also be expanded with a brand new UI, progressive downloading (so you can watch the video content while it downloads), and the ability to export these videos to PSP. While this may seem like the kitchen sink of features, Yamauchi teased, "we have much more planned."<br /><br />Considering it's been five years since the release of <em>Gran Turismo 4</em> on PS2, fans of the franchise are expecting only the best, if not more.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/gran-turismo-5-international-release-likely-early-2010/">Gran Turismo 5 international release likely early 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 11:00:00 EST. Announced just now at the second -- that's right, the <em>second</em> -- Sony press conference at Tokyo Game Show, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> will be coming to Japan in March 2010. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced the launch window without specifying any other regions. We've seen pieces of media for Polyphony Digital's impossibly good-looking racer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp"><em>Gran Turismo PSP</em></a> -- though no videos have offered looks of the game running at 60 FPS. We're not sure why a video game would need sunblock that powerful, but we -- what's that? Oh. <em>Frames per second</em>. We see.<br /> <br /> Eurogamer's Digital Foundry has assembled a lengthy gameplay clip running at 60 <em>frames per second</em> -- though you may need to download a special version of the video from the site to truly see all those <em>frames</em>. The big brains over at DF also break down how the game's buttery-smoothness is scientifically possible, which more or less dismisses our "Elfin magic" theory out of hand. <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-gt-psp-60fps-video-blog-entry">Click here to watch the video</a>.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/">Gran Turismo PSP (09/01/09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248844"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_00-42-00-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_00-42-00-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/60-fps-trailer-for-gran-turismo-psp-is-sharp-and-smooth/">60 FPS trailer for Gran Turismo PSP is sharp and smooth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 23:20:00 EST. While <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=75118">some</a> are suspecting a surprise early launch for the game, Polyphony Digital's penchant for long development time has us suspicious. In the interim, there's one reason a PS3 owner will want to check out <em>Gran Turismo</em> on PSP (besides the fact that it's <em>portable</em>): the ability to transfer cars from the PSP game to the upcoming console game. That should be incentive enough for collectors to try and "catch 'em all."<br /><br />The video also details the various Ad-Hoc multiplayer modes: Standard, Party, and Shuffle. Although a mode named "Party" makes us <em>Gran Turismo</em> with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhlI2XrAFPs&amp;feature=related">green shells</a>, the franchise isn't toning itself down for casual gamers just yet: this mode simply balances the playing field by sending more skilled players farther behind. No lightning bolts? Boo.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/">Gran Turismo PSP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2252130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/3865588147_3b405447b8_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2179660"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/gtportablecoverart_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2056069"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/1p_02_car_spec_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/kazunori-yamauchi-talks-gran-turismo-promises-car-transfers/">Kazunori Yamauchi talks Gran Turismo, promises car transfers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Sep 2009 17:30:00 EST. <br />SCEA has announced yet another addition to its growing lineup of PSP "Entertainment Pack" bundles. The upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp"><em>Gran Turismo</em></a> pack joins <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/rock-band-unplugged-detailed-priced-and-dated/"><em>Rock Band Unplugged</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/omg-lilac-psp-sony-says-girlz-play-too/"><em>Hannah Montana</em></a> this October by packaging a "Mystic Silver" PSP-3000 with a UMD copy of <em>Gran Turismo</em>, downloadable white Corvette ZR1, 2GB Memory Stick, and vouchers for movie and music downloads from the PlayStation Store and Sony Music Pass.<br /><br />At $199, the limited edition bundle seems like quite a bargain, especially when you consider how much cheaper it is than a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a>. The announcement of yet another PSP-3000 package reaffirms Sony's stance on supporting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/sonys-john-koller-says-tangible-disc-still-important/">UMD as a format</a> -- but also places into doubt the viability of ending <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/31/sony-and-nintendo-increasing-effort-in-fight-against-piracy/">PSP piracy</a> any time soon.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/">Gran Turismo PSP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2252130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/3865588147_3b405447b8_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2179660"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/gtportablecoverart_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2056069"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/1p_02_car_spec_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/gran-turismo-psp-bundle-arrives-october-20-for-200/">Gran Turismo PSP bundle arrives October 20 for $200</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Sep 2009 16:14:00 EST. It's still hard for us to believe that <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> is actually getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/rumor-gamescom-brochure-lists-q4-2009-release-for-gran-turismo/">closer to completion</a>. After years of teases and updates to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-5-prologue"><em>Gran Turismo 5 Prologue</em></a>, Polyphony Digital has finally released the first ever <strong>official</strong> screenshots of the upcoming retail game.<br /><br />The screenshots aren't particularly revealing. In fact, nothing was quite as telling as the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/gran-turismo-5-trailer-reveals-damage-system-amongst-other-feat/">trailer</a> from E3 this year. Also, the screens look terrific -- but don't be surprised if they resemble <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-prologue-1/334907/full/"><em>Prologue</em></a> quite a bit.<br /><br />In addition to the first ever screens of <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> for PS3, SCEA has also provided brand new <em>real</em> screens (unlike the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/new-screens-of-gran-turismo-psp-are-impossibly-hi-res/">renders</a> provided earlier this year) of the upcoming <em>Gran Turismo</em> for PSP. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/">Gran Turismo 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/g37_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_07-25-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2359042"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/10/2009-09-23_08-36-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-5-ps3/#2436597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/tt_004_sm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/">Gran Turismo PSP (09/01/09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248844"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_00-42-00-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-psp-9-1/#2248845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_00-42-00-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/first-gran-turismo-5-screenshots-released/">First Gran Turismo 5 screenshots released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 14:30:00 EST. Although the PSP Go is ready for the masses, Sony isn't giving up on the PSP-3000. No, Sony Japan is actually releasing <em>even more</em> colors for those that don't want (or can't afford) the all-digital PSP Go. The "<em>Gran Turismo</em> Racing Pack" will include a special limited edition black PSP-3000 with a very subtle GT logo on its front. (Really, look for it.) The bundle will also include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp/"><em>Gran Turismo</em></a> on UMD and special Polyphony Digital-inspired accessories, like a strap and pouch. No price has been revealed yet, but we guess Sony didn't want to announce <em>everything</em> in just one day, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/japan-to-get-limited-edition-gran-turismo-psp-bundle/">Japan to get limited edition Gran Turismo PSP bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 22:00:00 EST. As is the norm for all high-profile games, pre-ordering <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp/"><em>Gran Turismo PSP</em></a> will unlock some extra bonuses. By pre-ordering, players will get early access to these high-end cars, ensuring <em>GT</em>'s multiplayer modes will be unbalanced from the get-go. Don't bring your Toyota Camry to this battle:<br />

    <li>Ferrari Enzo Ferrari '02</li>
    <li>Citroen GT by Citroen '08</li>

    <li>Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74</li>
</ul>
Wait, what? Looks like Sony stealthily announced it has acquired the Lamborghini license, making <em>Gran Turismo PSP</em> the first <em>GT</em> game to feature cars from the famed automaker. "And as you can imagine, this won't be the last Lamborghini in a <em>Gran Turismo</em> game, either," Stephanie Yoshimoto, Senior Product Marketing Manager wrote on the <a href="http:// http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/08/04/gran-turismo-psp-pre-order-bonus-items-revealed/">PlayStation.Blog</a>. It looks like <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> just became <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/gran-turismo-5-trailer-reveals-damage-system-amongst-other-feat/">even more comprehensive</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/">Gran Turismo PSP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2252130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/3865588147_3b405447b8_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2179660"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/gtportablecoverart_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2056069"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/1p_02_car_spec_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Thanks, Mark!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/gran-turismo-acquires-the-lamborghini-license/">Gran Turismo acquires the Lamborghini license</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 14:10:00 EST. <div align="left">Folks, this is huge. Clearly, someone at Sony meant to send out new screens of <em>Gran Turismo PSP </em>but accidentally distributed some from <em>Gran Turismo </em>for the PSP2! <br /><br />Oh, wait. No, they're actually just shots from the PSP version, only rendered out at 3840x2860 resolution with all sorts of post-processing going on. While staring at a sexy Corvette ZR-1 gets our pulse up, we can't help feeling like these "screens" are just a <em>tad </em>disingenuous.
