This raises the question: which instruments will work with which games? Joystiq has stepped up to the proverbial plate and provided the answer: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/">Joystiq Instrument Compatibility Matrix 3.0</a>. If you're planning to pick up any of these upcoming music games (and you really should be), consulting this handy chart is a must. It will be updated as new information is released, so be sure to bookmark it for the next time you've got a hankering for a new plastic instrument.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/joystiqs-updates-the-instrument-compatibility-matrix/">Joystiq's updates the Instrument Compatibility Matrix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 14:00:00 EST. The announcement was made during a recent earnings call where Activision also revealed future plans of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/no-console-tony-hawk-in-08-we-lament/"><em>Tony Hawk</em></a>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/new-setting-for-call-of-duty-5-bond-powered-by-call-of-duty-4/">Call of Duty and James Bond</a></em> licenses.<br /><br />Viacom, owner of Harmonix, recently announced <em>Rock Band </em>has reached the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/rock-band-ships-3-million-bundled-units-10-million-songs-down/">10 million</a> song download mark.<br /><br />It's notable that the <em>Guitar Hero</em> announcement seems to relate to both <em>Guitar Hero II</em> (Xbox 360) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-iii"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> (Xbox 360 and PS3) downloads while the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> announcement appears to be a combination of Xbox 360 and PS3 online sales. While <a href="http://www.harmonixmusic.com/">Harmonix</a> and Activision continue their urinating contest over numbers, we'll just assume both are doing well in the content sales department for future reference.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/guitar-hero-hits-15-million-song-downloads/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/activision-boasts-15-million-guitar-hero-song-downloads/">Activision boasts 15 million Guitar Hero song downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 May 2008 10:30:00 EST. The <em>GHII</em> "Indie Label Pack" features three songs for 500 Microsoft points including "State of Massachusetts" by Dropkick Murphys, "You Should Be Ashamed of Myself" by The Bled and "Memories of the Grove" by Maylene &amp; The Sons of Disaster. Again, this is new content for <em>GHII</em> and not <em>GHIII</em> which makes our head quirk to the side a bit, but we guess that's some hardcore product support. Or maybe the powers that be just want to milk us for every last dime we have. That has to be it, those dirty milkers!<br /><br />[Thanks, Joe]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/guitar-hero-ii-gets-indie-label-pack/">Guitar Hero II gets Indie Label Pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Nov 2007 11:15:00 EST. "We won't be able to put up enough inventory to meet the demand of this fiscal or calendar year," Riccitiello told the investors, adding that those who don't buy at launch "won't be getting one for Christmas, unless you know someone at one of our retailers."<br /><br />While Riccitiello could be plausibly accused of simply trying to talk up demand in advance of the Nov. 20 launch -- he did encourage listeners to "get in line outside your favorite retailer, because we've got one hot product" -- we find the idea of shortages very easy to believe given the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/even-at-199-rock-band-se-for-360-lands-in-amazons-bestseller/">strong pre-order sales</a>. With <em>Guitar Hero III</em> already <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16093">selling out</a> at retailers nationwide, it looks like the market for rhythm games might just be big enough for two expensive, hard-to-come-by products.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/02/ea-rock-band-may-face-shortages-through-years-end/">EA: Rock Band may face shortages through year's end</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Nov 2007 10:59:00 EST. This week at Canadian electronics retailer <a href="http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10095080">Future Shop</a> they are offering<em> Guitar Hero II</em> FREE with the purchase of a new Xbox 360 console. This is the same holiday 360 bundle that includes <em>Forza Motorsport 2</em> and<em> Marvel: Ultimate Alliance</em>, so it's like getting three games and a console for $399. It's not too shabby of a deal, so maybe you should jump in while the gettings are good.<br /><br />[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/canada-get-ghii-free-with-xbox-360-purchase/">Canada: Get GHII free with Xbox 360 purchase</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Oct 2007 15:45:00 EST. As such, the company has announced a new song pack for <em>Guitar Hero II</em>. Like the previous packs, the new song pack includes three new tracks for you to shred to your heart's content. The song pack includes the following tracks.<br />
<ul>
    <li>Trivium - "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0qH9e2OziM">Detonation</a>"</li>
    <li>Atreyu - "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwmE8suy-xQ">Right Side of the Bed</a>"</li>
    <li>Protest the Hero - "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ElE-WEExzY">Bury the Hatchet</a>"</li>
</ul>
Lest you are unfamiliar with the new tracks, let's just say they're a bit on the hard side, especially compared to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/14/dont-cut-yourself-just-yet-mcr-pack-on-guitar-hero-ii/">last month's DLC</a>. According to <a href="http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27239">ScoreHero</a>, the new content will be available tomorrow at 2:00AM (PT) for the still onerous price of 500 MS Points. Now, if Activision would <em>finally</em> release some <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=S_wzi-kTVOI">Fine Young Cannibals</a>, we'd be in business.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/19/new-guitar-hero-ii-dlc-adds-trivium-atreyu-and-protest-the-hero/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/19/ghii-gets-some-heavy-dlc-tomorrow/">GHII gets some heavy DLC tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Sep 2007 17:30:00 EST.
