Activision this morning revealed an incentive for Metallica slash <em>Guitar Hero</em> fans to pick up the forthcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/guitar-hero-warriors-of-rock">Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock</a></em> in the game's first week launch window: the ability to import 39 of the former game's 49 tracks into the latter game for free. Like <em>Guitar Hero 5</em>, <em>Band Hero</em>, <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour </em>and <em>Guitar Hero: Smash Hits</em>, some of the songs in <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> will be importable into the forthcoming<i> </i>rhythm game release.<br />
<br />
After the week is up on October 5, the import will cost 480 MS Points / $4.99 / 600 Wii Points, tying it for first place with <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> for most expensive import cost. We've broken down the track listing from <em>GH: Metallica</em> that will be available for import into <em>Warriors of Rock</em> (39 of 49 songs) after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/import-gh-metallica-into-warriors-of-rock-for-free-during-first/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Import GH: Metallica into Warriors of Rock for free during first week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/import-gh-metallica-into-warriors-of-rock-for-free-during-first/">Import GH: Metallica into Warriors of Rock for free during first week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2010 22:00:00 EST. It's time for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/swag-saturday">Swag Saturday</a> once again, and this week's prize is a doozy. Up for grabs we have not one, not two, but <em>three</em> <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Hero</a> </em>games. We've got Xbox 360 copies of <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>, <em>Guitar Hero: Smash Hits</em> and <em>Guitar Hero 5</em>, all for the low, low price of nothing (and all released <em>this year</em>, if you can believe it). And, as if that weren't enough, we're throwing in an extra bass pedal (with splitter cable) too. For your chance to rock with the best of them, follow these simple directions:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Leave a comment telling us about your favorite rock and roll moment.</li>
    <li>You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, due to a domestic dispute)</li>
    <li><strong>Limit 1 entry per person per day</strong></li>
    <li>This entry period ends at <strong>8:31PM ET on Monday, September 28<br /> </strong></li>
    <li>At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> ($60 ARV), <em>Guitar Hero: Smash Hits</em> ($60 ARV), <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> ($60 ARV), and a bass pedal game peripheral ($35 ARV)</li>
    <li>For a list of complete rules, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/official-giveaway-rules/" target="_blank">click here</a></li>

If you come down with a chronic case of Beatlemania on Sept. 9, you could have someone unlikely to thank for it: Metallica. Speaking with <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/sep/06/the-beatles-rock-band-paul-mccartney">The Guardian</a>, Paul McCartney describes how Harmonix first started pitching him on the product way back in 2007, using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Metallica</em></a> (presumably one of the band's songs running in an earlier <em>Guitar Hero</em> title) as an example of what could be done with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band"><em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em></a>.<br />
<br />
There were "a couple of grown-ups standing looking very foolish with these little plastic guitars playing to a screen", McCartney says. "And we're going, 'Yeah, all right... It just looks like a really bad band.' They said: 'We really can do a great one with the Beatles, and we'll show you.' So Ringo and I got a bit intrigued."<br />
<br />
So, when McCartney says they looked like a really bad band ... is he talking about the people playing or the guys on the screen? Because, yes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/07/how-metallica-helped-sell-paul-mccartney-on-beatles-rock-band/">How Metallica helped sell Paul McCartney on The Beatles: Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Sep 2009 09:00:00 EST. Yet another crazy music game fire sale from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-octane">RedOctane</a> today: For $49.99 on PS2, $59.99 on Wii or $69.99 on PS3 or 360, you can pick up a two-pack of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits"><em>Guitar Hero: Smash Hits</em></a>.<br /><br />As an added bonus, you'll also get a free <em>Guitar Hero World Tour </em>shirt. Now, you should by no means wear this in public, but if you need to work on your car or play the <em>Super Sloppy Double Dare </em>home game, it's a nice perk.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/pick-up-metallica-smash-hits-guitar-hero-bundle-for-cheap/">Pick up Metallica/Smash Hits Guitar Hero bundle for cheap</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:57:00 EST. We're having a hard time wrapping our heads around this one, so do us a favor and bear with us while we put our heads down and power through. Microsoft is releasing a wireless microphone this fall meant to be used with "your favorite Xbox 360 music games," a list that includes: <em>Lips</em>, <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>, <em>Rock Band 2</em>, <em>Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3: Senior Year</em>, <em>Lips: Number One Hits</em>, and <em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em>.<br /><br />We know, we know -- you're asking yourself, "Why would Microsoft release <em>more</em> peripherals? Just to add extra confusion to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/">Joystiq instrument compatibility matrix</a>?" According to Microsoft, the mics are meant to assist in your living room rockstar efforts, and will retail this fall for an "estimated retail price" of $50. Meanwhile, the promise of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/rock-band-2-puckers-up-for-lips-mic-patch/"><em>Lips</em> mics working in <em>Rock Band 2</em></a> has yet to arrive and an asterisk in <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2009/06/23/Lips7867453.aspx">Microsoft's press release</a> from earlier today indicates that these new mics won't work either without a title update. Does that mean we'll finally see the allowance of <em>Lips</em>' mics in <em>RB2</em> when these new mics ship in the fall?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/23/xbox-360-wireless-mic-sold-separately-this-fall-50/">Xbox 360 wireless mic sold separately this fall for $50</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Jun 2009 12:30:00 EST. Microsoft has issued a plea to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/now-playing-march-29-april-4-2009/">new</a> and future purchasers of <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> for Xbox 360 to also please, please, <em>PLEASE</em> buy its <em>Lips</em> karaoke game -- for the microphones. Didn't you know? The metal music game features built-in support for those uh-huh-they-do-sparkle mics. Neversoft, the current <em>Guitar Hero </em>developer, initially confirmed this compatibility -- which <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-wont-receive-lips-mic-support/"><em>isn't</em></a> coming to <em>World Tour</em> -- on its <a href="http://twitter.com/GuitarHeroDevs">Twitter feed</a> last month, but the posting has since been removed. Nevertheless, <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is the first music game to support the much praised, wireless <em>Lips</em> peripheral, which has been unsuccessfully bundled with a mediocre singing game.<br /><br />Additionally, Microsoft has tentatively dated that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/rock-band-2-puckers-up-for-lips-mic-patch/">long-ago-promised</a> <em>Rock Band 2</em> patch for "this summer" and suggested that additional titles supporting its mic will be available later this year. When, surely, we'll be able to purchase a standalone <em>Lips</em> mic. <em>Pretty please?</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/guitar-hero-metallica-supports-lips-mic-rock-band-2-patch-thi/">Guitar Hero: Metallica supports Lips mic, Rock Band 2 patch 'this summer'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 12:59:00 EST. According to an Activision Blizzard press release, we won't be seeing more <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/video-heidi-klum-undresses-for-guitar-hero/">Heidi Klum</a> in ads for upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>, as the company has revealed a new advertising campaign focusing on <em>college basketball coaches</em>. In an attempt to capitalize on all of this March Madness hoopla, the new ad features four famous college basketball coaches (from left to right: Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Bob Knight, and Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski) and their "surprise encounter" with Metallica. As you can tell from the image above, the new ad will continue the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiPDL9S552s"><em>Risky Business</em></a> theme, but includes a surprise ending where we see all all four coaches walking home through the snow, <em>uphill</em>, with no shoes on. Watch it for yourself after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/guitar-hero-metallica-ads-ditch-heidi-klum-for-college-basketba/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica ads ditch Heidi Klum for college basketball coaches</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/guitar-hero-metallica-ads-ditch-heidi-klum-for-college-basketba/">Guitar Hero: Metallica ads ditch Heidi Klum for college basketball coaches</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 17:30:00 EST. We thought we'd pass along <a href="http://community.guitarhero.com/news_posts/175">a courteous reminder from Activision</a> informing the gaming community that <em><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20Metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em></em> began rocking store shelves today. If you haven't found current full-band simulators to be punishing enough, <em>Metallica</em> promises to deliver with an "Expert +" mode, double kick pedals, and guitar solos capable of turning even the sturdiest fingers into tiny puddles of red goo. If you've got $59.99 lying around (or $49.99 for the Wii version, $39.99 for the PS2), you can simulate "riding the lightning"* with unparalleled accuracy.<br /><br />*<em>Warning: Riding lightning can lead to unintended health consequences in the groin region, including serious unsightly burns and impotence. Consult your doctor before deciding to mount any arcs of electricity.<br /><br /></em><strong>Update</strong>: The PS2 version isn't actually dropping until Sunday, May 24 -- meaning Activision is effectively tainting two of 2009's Sabbath days with a touch of unholy metal.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/psa-guitar-hero-metallica-melting-faces-store-shelves-today/">PSA: Guitar Hero: Metallica melting faces, store shelves today [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. On March 29, Metallica thrashes into <em>Guitar Hero </em>... axes blazing behind more than two decades of rock. Or for the less dramatic, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> is <em>totally</em> coming out soon. Ever wonder what goes into developing a game, starring one of the world's most famous bands? Three new "Behind the Scenes" trailers with interviews and capture session footage with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo cover that very topic.<br /><br />Watch as the band rocks in mo-cap gear (video above), discuss the opportunity to introduce a new generation to their music and <em>finally</em> becoming rock stars after all these years (videos after the break).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/behind-the-scenes-with-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Behind the scenes with Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/behind-the-scenes-with-guitar-hero-metallica/">Behind the scenes with Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 11:05:00 EST. Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, get your plastic instruments ready: A demo for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> is now <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/03/20/demo-guitar-hero-metallica.aspx">available</a> on Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo allows you to rock out on bass, drums, guitar and vocals.<br /><br />Undoubtedly the most exciting<em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Hero</a></em> release since the last <em>Guitar Hero </em>release -- but not nearly as exciting as the <em>next Guitar Hero </em>release -- <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is one seriously heavy metal game. It seems pretty heavy anyway, considering the demo weighs in at over one gig. Queue it up for download by clicking <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80241560830/?p=1&amp;of=1&amp;sb=1#offers">here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/03/20/demo-guitar-hero-metallica.aspx">Major Nelson</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/gh-metallica-demo-on-xblm-nothing-else-matters/">GH Metallica demo on XBLM, nothing else matters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 11:54:00 EST. That <em>is</em> <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>. Is it fun? Sure. Is it for non-fans? Eh, maybe. Is there anything remotely new about it apart from the fact that it's totally, completely, fully and thoroughly Metallica? Yes.<br /><br />In a move to make the game more party-friendly than <em>GHWT </em>from the get-go, Neversoft has thoughtfully unlocked every song on the disc in Quick Play mode; playing through career mode is mainly about unlocking items and the overall Metallica "experience." Which, as we found, starts out by having you play a couple of songs by the metal legends then becoming so inspired that you start your own band (who you play the games non-Metallica songs as).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fuel-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429375"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---in-the-round-performance-3132009-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429376"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---king-diamond-3132009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429377"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---drum-note-highway-3132009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429378"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fight-fire-with-fire-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/">Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. Note the highlighted name "Lynyrd Skynrd," located in the top left. The band's name is <em>clearly</em> misspelled. The correct spelling is "Lynyrd Skynyrd" -- <em>duh.</em><br /><br />Some conspiracists might insist that the error is intentional, enforced by Metallica (take note: "Metallica" is spelled correctly), which secretly despises Skynyrd's musical success and demanded humiliation in the form of a misspelling. <em>Seriously?</em> No, that can't be it. Chalk up this mistake to poor proofing. (On a side note: we're petitioning to have "Lynyrd Skynyrd" introduced into the Scripps National Spelling Bee -- it's a tough one!)<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.play-girlz.com/guitar-hero-metallica-launches-with-typo-in-cover-art/">playgirlz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/guitar-hero-metallica-box-art-mispellz-lynyrd-skynyrd/">Guitar Hero: Metallica box art 'mispellz' Lynyrd Skynyrd</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 14:12:00 EST. Upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> will feature the likeness of Mot&ouml;rhead frontman, <a href="http://www.spinner.com/2009/02/12/motorheads-lemmy-gets-animated-for-metallica/">Lemmy</a>, as a playable character, continuing the franchise's tradition of including celebrities in-game. "It's great to be in <em>Guitar Hero</em> with all these famous people and I'm really pleased to be in it with Metallica," Lemmy said. Well, we can say we're glad you're in it, too!<br /><br />With <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> featuring <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/metallica-reveals-full-setlist-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">a variety of non-Metallica tracks</a> (as well as some of the classic Metallica tunes), and now Lemmy, it's going to be hard to ignore this when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/guitar-hero-metallica-rocks-out-march-29-for-na-may-elsewhere/">it hits retail in North America on March 29</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/13/motorheads-lemmy-playable-in-guitar-hero-metallica/">Motorhead's Lemmy playable in Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 17:28:00 EST. The pre-order bonuses for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20Metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> run the gamut of usefulness when dealing with <a href="http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2009/02/12/activision-reveals-pre-order-goodies-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">down payment freebies</a> -- the first (and unquestionably most desirable) of these bonuses we already knew about: Dropping a paper Lincoln on the title at GameStop will net you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/guitar-hero-metallica-pre-orders-come-with-bonus-drum-pedal/">an extra drum pedal</a> with which to face the game's most punishing percussion solos. A bit further down on the Scale of Practicality is the pre-order bonus for Hollywood Video and GameCrazy: A pair of <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> drumsticks. Not an amazing gift, but it sure beats a keychain.<br /><br />On the complete opposite side of the aforementioned scale is the gift that Best Buy patrons will bring home: Tattoo sleeves. We can only imagine that they're talking about <a href="http://www.zymetrical.com/images/products/tattoo-sleeves-diagram.jpg">those fake slip-on things</a> that make it look like you've swapped appendages with Tommy Lee, and not, you know, <em>actual tattoos</em>. We assume that particular consumer electronics retailer has some policy prohibiting in-store decorative body modification.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/13/activision-reveals-other-pre-order-bonuses-for-guitar-hero-meta/">Activision reveals other pre-order bonuses for Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 01:00:00 EST. <br />It looks like we might get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/guitar-hero-metallica-is-officially-born/#comments">our wish</a>: <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> will consist mostly of songs from the band's first five albums, with only eleven post-1991 tracks appearing. Metallica's <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">official site</a> has leaked the full track list, which also contains twenty songs from artists such as Queen, System of a Down, Slayer, Mot&ouml;rhead, and Thin Lizzy. You can view the full line-up past the break.<br /><br />Also, some less-than-great news: the release of the Wii version is set to lag behind the competition. Whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be ready for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/guitar-hero-metallica-dated-in-europe-and-possibly-north-ameri/">March 29</a>, Metallica themselves (or whoever writes on the website pretending to be the band) say we can expect the game "in the Spring, most likely in early May." Sad But True, indeed.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/full-guitar-hero-metallica-track-list-revealed-wii-version-arr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Guitar Hero: Metallica track list revealed, Wii version arriving late</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/full-guitar-hero-metallica-track-list-revealed-wii-version-arr/">Full Guitar Hero: Metallica track list revealed, Wii version arriving late</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Not wanting to be outed by those tricky Activision execs, Metallica has taken it upon themselves to reveal the entire <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </span>setlist over on <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">Metallica.com</a>. The list (viewable after the break) is comprised of over 25 Metallica songs and over 20 tracks from other "hand picked" bands. Bands including Alice in Chains, Seger, Judas Priest, SOAD, Skynyrd and Britney Spears. Joking, of course, about Spears' inclusion. Oh, and don't forget about that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/free-second-pedal-with-gh-metallica-preorder/">second drum pedal</a>.<br /></div>

Up until now, we've been uncertain about what tracks would be appearing on <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica --</em> though the educated guessers among us presumed that it would have <em>quite a few</em> tracks by its titular band. They were correct -- the news section on <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">Metallica's official site recently revealed</a> the 28 tracks the rock outfit would be contributing to the game (PS2 and Wii versions will include three extra songs in lieu of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/metallicas-death-magnetic-album-for-guitar-hero-3-this-friday/">access to the band's <em>Death Magnetic </em>DLC pack</a>), as well as the extra tracks from "<span class="newscontent">some of the bands we admire and even call friends."</span> <br /><br />The full list is posted after the jump, and features our patented new Bold-O-Vision technology to point out the particular song we can't wait to croon without shame or self restraint in whatever social setting we happen to find ourselves in.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/metallica-reveals-full-setlist-for-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metallica reveals full setlist for Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/metallica-reveals-full-setlist-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">Metallica reveals full setlist for Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jan 2009 18:00:00 EST. <br />The ESRB just rated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/guitar-hero-metallica-includes-extra-pedal-so-you-can-try-to-be/"><em>Guitar Hero Metallica</em></a>, and in its synopsis gave away lyrics to four of the songs that would appear in the game. Thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/"><em>Game Informer</em></a>, we knew about the presence of "Armed and Ready" by MSG, but Destructoid discovered three fresh specimens:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"Am I Evil?" by Metallica</li>
    <li>"Whiplash" by Metallica</li>
    <li>"Mommy's Little Monster" by Social Distortion</li>
</ul>
Some of the lyrics that the ESRB pointed out include "sweet and timely whore, take me home" and "We're gathered here to maim and kill." My, they are <em>terribly</em> rock 'n roll, aren't they? Also CONFIRMED: one of the selectable guitarists is "a fantastical succubus with cleavage and panties."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/guitar-hero-metallica-esrb-listing-reveals-songs-succubus-cleavage-and-panties-119029.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/esrb-confirms-guitar-hero-metallica-songs-presence-of-succubi/">ESRB confirms Guitar Hero Metallica songs, presence of succubi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 19:20:00 EST. A listing for upcoming<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> has popped up on GameStop, along with <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73601">an interesting bonus</a> for pre-ordering the game. According to the site, the game will include a bonus drum pedal, along with a splitter, which will allow would-be rockers to drum with dual pedals if you order early. You know, just like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFlnXeo4mKQ">Lars Ulrich</a>.<br /><br />The listing is for the Xbox 360 version of the game, but it's a safe bet to expect this for Wii. It's a multiplatform game after all and if one version is going to offer dual pedals, we doubt it would be excluded from the other versions and a bonus exclusive to the Xbox.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Added further clarification that this is a pre-order bonus.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/guitar-hero-metallica-pre-orders-come-with-bonus-drum-pedal/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/guitar-hero-metallica-includes-extra-pedal-so-you-can-try-to-be/">Guitar Hero: Metallica includes extra pedal so you can try to be Lars Ulrich [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 12:39:00 EST. There's a thick cloud of fear hanging over fans of faux-drumming in games like <em>Rock Band </em>and <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em> -- fear inspired by the near-impossible rhythms which will need to be kept when <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20Metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>hits store shelves. We're not sure how familiar you guys are with the speed with which Mr. Ulrich is capable of producing percussion, but we assure you, his work will be most unpleasant to attempt to mimic.<br /><br />Thankfully, an <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73601">uncharacteristically useful pre-order bonus from GameStop</a> will give the game's quick-to-act reservers an extra bass drum pedal and input splitter. This will allow the player to use both pedals to tackle the game's more heel-punishing tracks. It's certainly a better option than splitting your foot down the middle, and training yourself to control both halves independently, which, now that we think about it, would be <em>pretty rock-and-roll</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/guitar-hero-metallica-pre-orders-come-with-bonus-drum-pedal/">Guitar Hero: Metallica pre-orders come with bonus drum pedal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 19:30:00 EST. It's not just a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/rumor-gh-metallica-to-rock-retail-march-29th/">rumor</a> anymore, metal-heads. The official release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> has been <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601800">announced</a>. The game will be launching in North America on March 29 and will release in other regions sometime in May. So, start preparing your fingers for the inevitable calluses and start drinking all the Red Bull you can stomach, because <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-arrives-early-2009/">going to be <em>hard</em></a>. With 28 Mettalica tracks and plenty of guest artists, it's not a game for lightweights. No, you'll need to be a <em>serious</em> fake musician if you want to hang with the big boys. What you do with your fake groupies, well, that's up to you.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/guitar-hero-metallica-rocks-out-march-29-for-na-may-elsewhere/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/guitar-hero-metallica-lands-march-29-in-na-other-regions-in-ma/">Guitar Hero: Metallica lands March 29 in NA, other regions in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 16:30:00 EST. Heavy metal icons Metallica have let the black cat out of the bag. <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica </em>is coming to North America March 29th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the rest of the world sometime in May. The PS2 and Wii versions are coming this Spring, "<span class="newscontent">also most likely in early May," according to the <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601800">band's website</a>.<br /><br />For those who need a little reminder, this is <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> ... with Metallica. Oh, and there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/rumor-guitar-hero-metallica-to-feature-expert-plus-drum-mode/">"expert-plus" drums</a>. The game includes 28 songs from the group's discography, as well as tracks from </span><span class="newscontent">Alice in Chains, the Foo Fighters, Slayer, Machine Head, and Queen (as in Freddie Mercury, not of the Stone Age variety). "March 29" is a little too random to be a placeholder date, and is also a Sunday, a popular release day for big-name titles. Even if the franchise <em>has</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/report-guitar-hero-reaching-its-peak/">reached the peak</a> of its popularity, we still feel pretty confident about calling <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> "big-name."<br /><br />Meanwhile, Activision had no qualms about revealing release details for Europe, informing Eurogamer that the game would reach the region in May. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73600">Source</a>: Possible North American date [Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/rumortoid-guitar-hero-metallica-street-dated-for-march-29-117928.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<br /><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/guitar-hero-metallica-confirmed-for-may">Source</a>: Confirmed European date<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/guitar-hero-metallica-dated-in-europe-and-possibly-north-ameri/">Guitar Hero: Metallica dated in Europe (and possibly North America)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 15:37:00 EST. <div align="left"><strong>Update:</strong> According to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/guitar-hero-metallica-confirmed-for-may">Eurogamer</a>, Activision has informed them that GH: Metallica will be releasing in May. Well, in Europe at least.<br /><br />If online retail listings or internal retail documentation can be trusted, those awaiting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>'s</a> release should circle (with a pencil) March 29th as an important date.<br /></div>
</div>
<br /><a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73601">Gamestop.com</a> and an internal Gamestop POS sheet obtained by the <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/rumortoid-guitar-hero-metallica-street-dated-for-march-29-117928.phtml">Destructoid</a> crew have Metallica's own <em>Guitar Hero </em>edition releasing to all platforms on the last Sunday in March. Traditionally, retailer supplied video game release dates are only 12.4% correct, but we're optimistic on this one. Metallica releasing in March? It sorta makes sense.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/rumor-gh-metallica-to-rock-retail-march-29th/">Rumor: GH: Metallica to rock retail March 29th [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 10:15:00 EST. <div align="left">Activision's CES keynote should have been titled "Remedial Gaming 101: A History of Gaming." Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith took us through a not-so-brief history of gaming, from <em>Pong</em> to <em>Pac-Man</em> to "even games that used to feature trackballs, and yes, even joysticks." Although, that's not the point when the chap in the photo above fell asleep -- that happened <em>much</em> earlier.<br /><br />Oddly, Activision didn't manage to fit in a single plug for its upcoming game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prototype/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Prototype</span></a>, which was apparently left out on the show floor for this one. No banners, no teaser, not even a still. Instead the stage was littered with games from 2008: <em>Call of Duty: World at War, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Madagascar 2, Quantum of Solace, Guitar Hero: World Tour</em>, and so on. It was deja vu, and we found ourselves literally checking our badges to make sure we weren't at E3 2008. Note to Activision: You've got a captive audience sitting in seats and (mostly) paying attention -- take advantage of 'em!</div>

The quality was dubious but the message was suitably loud and clear: you <em>will</em> "ride the lightning" in 2009. And, by "ride the lightning," we of course mean "press buttons on a plastic guitar and Metallica songs will happen."<br /><br />Activision-Blizzard, having evidently accepted the game's existence at long last, today released a more watchable version of the teaser. That's what you'll see when you press "play" above. What you <em>won't </em>see is much of the game outside of some in-engine concert footage of the band performing and looking all ... <div style="text-align: left;">Making an appearance over on Metallica's <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601748">official web space</a> is a fresh trailer for next year's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>. A game that is still yet to be officially announced, mentioned or even uttered by the PR folks at Activision. No matter, because Metallica isn't afraid to promote the game as is obvious by the latest trailer. Enjoy the video goods after the break and be sure to ride the lightning in 2009.</div>

A (mostly) single-band <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a> game focusing on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-for-guitar-hero-aerosmith-walks-this-way/">Aerosmith</a> came out this summer. It's being followed up with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/guitar-hero-metallica-is-officially-born/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a>,</em> which features Metallica and a bunch of other bands that Activision's marketing department thinks people who like Metallica also like.<br /><br />Given the fairly customizable nature of music games, thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/oasis-blink-182-wolfmother-join-world-tour-next-month/">DLC</a> (and, to a certain extent, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/analyst-world-tour-demand-still-high-supplies-still-down/">Guitar Hero World Tour</a>'</em>s music creation), is there any point to a single-band game like this? Is it in any way preferable to, say, making a bunch of Metallica songs available as <em>Guitar Hero </em>DLC? Harmonix's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/harmonix-talks-the-game-that-is-not-rock-band-beatles/">Beatles game</a> seems to avoid this issue entirely, since the company is apparently making a <em>different</em> (not <em>Rock Band</em>) game around the Beatles' music.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/20/wii-warm-up-guitar-hero-redundant-edition/">Wii Warm Up: Guitar Hero Redundant Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Dec 2008 10:30:00 EST. Well, we've certainly been talking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/">about</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">it</a> for awhile now and finally it's made official. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-not-too-far-off/"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> has dished out its first trailer and, well, it's <em>definitely something</em>. The trailer promises the band's "fiercest songs," which we hope means "tunes from the first 5 albums." You know, when Metallica was <em>good</em>.<br /><br />Of course, with this being Metallica and all, we can't embed the video past the break. Lars would cry, or something. So <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp=1&amp;item=601748">hit up this link</a> to watch it. Oh, and a word of caution: Hetfield looks like a mutant in the game and there's an overabundance of lens flare in the trailer. Enjoy!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/metallica-debuts-guitar-hero-metallica-trailer/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/guitar-hero-metallica-is-officially-born/">Guitar Hero: Metallica is (officially) born</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Dec 2008 16:16:00 EST. <div align="left">So what if the Metallica edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a> still hasn't been officially announced? The band itself has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">talking about it</a> all willy-nilly; it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/rumor-guitar-hero-metallica-to-feature-expert-plus-drum-mode/">been in <em>Game Informer</em></a>; there was even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/guitar-hero-metallica-teaser-found-in-guitar-hero-world-tour/">a teaser</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a>.<em> </em>And now ... well, the trailer is out. Not from its publisher, Activision, but <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601748">on the band's website</a>.<br /><br />Perhaps some fine print in the band's contract stipulates that it gets to handle the PR for the game. Perhaps the <em>mere mention</em> of the game is being considered an "exclusive," since it's "unannounced." Perhaps it's <em>time for a press release already</em>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Brett]</div>

We all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">knew it was coming</a>, but now <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is 100% official. <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-14-metallica-game-qanda_N.htm">Speaking to USA today</a>, Neversoft's Alan Flores and Metallica's Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett discussed the game and some of its features. The story of the game is that players are members of a band that tours with Metallica, covering its songs at different venues. Neversoft decided that the game couldn't work chronologically, as Metallica's early work would be far too difficult at the beginning of the game. Concerning difficulty, Flores says that the game will be "a lot harder" than previous <em>Guitar Hero</em> games, and is aimed squarely at hardcore players. So then, should we just give up now?<br /><br />The game should arrive early next year, with Ulrich specifically mentioning March.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-arrives-early-2009/">Guitar Hero: Metallica arrives early 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 13:00:00 EST. It's a Christmas miracle! Someone's actually admitting out loud that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>exists! The band spilled a ton of details to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-14-metallica-game-qanda_N.htm">USA Today</a>, including word on the game's difficulty (considerable) and the story, which casts you as a band, inspired by Metallica, following them around the world and playing their songs. It's a strange structure, but the reasoning (the band's early work would have been far too hard, ruling out a chronological approach) seems pretty sound.<br /><br />We imagine there will be very few of you on the fence, so we have to ask: When <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> arrives early next year, will you be picking it up?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">Guitar Hero Metallica coming in early 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 11:10:00 EST. <br />Supposedly featured in the latest issue of Game Informer are concrete <span style="font-style: italic;">GH: Metallica </span>details, including the reveal of a new "expert plus" drum mode that'll test any drummer's skills with dual kick pedals that'll work with the <em>World Tour</em> drum kit. <br />With all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/world-tour-nirvana-tracks-now-available-for-download/">recent</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/european-bands-sign-up-for-world-tour/">chatter</a> about <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em>, you can be forgiven if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> slipped from your radar. It's still very much coming, though, and the latest issue of <em>Game Informer</em> has fresh details and the first tracks, from both Metallica themselves and the other acts that will feature.<br /><br />The game will come with the full suite of <em>World Tour</em> instruments, and Vicarious Visions plans to add "Metallica drum sounds" and a selection of guitar and bass "tones" used by Metallica's James Hetfield and Tom Araya of Slayer to the GH Tunes music studio. There will also be a new, extra-hard drum difficulty for those with a splitter and two kick pedals. Having picked up <em>Guitar Hero</em> games again after a long break, the last thing we personally need is greater difficulty, but <strike>freaks</strike> experts will appreciate that.<br /><br />Check out the first Metallica and non-Metallica tracks after the break!<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First tracks, deets for Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">First tracks, deets for Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 14:37:00 EST. <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> may still not be "officially" announced by Activision, but a tipster sent us a YouTube clip revealing the teaser for the game in <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em>'s "videos" section. Making this situation even more inane is that Metallica's drummer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/lars-wont-confirm-guitar-hero-metallica-spoiler-its-happeni/">Lars Ulrich</a>, has been <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/10/23/lars-ulrich-on-why-metallica-is-guitar-hero-exclusive/">flapping his lips</a> about why the band decided to go exclusive with <em>Guitar Hero</em> (hint: buckets of cash).<br /><br />The YouTube video gives the game a nebulous release date of 2009, but a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-before-q1-2009/">financial report from last June</a> showed that the title is expected before March 31, 2009. The clip can be found after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Ihateu3]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/guitar-hero-metallica-teaser-found-in-guitar-hero-world-tour/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica teaser found in Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/guitar-hero-metallica-teaser-found-in-guitar-hero-world-tour/">Guitar Hero: Metallica teaser found in Guitar Hero World Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 15:27:00 EST. <div align="left">If you thought that 2008's triple-billing of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> and the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a> was, well, a <em>lot </em>of <em>Guitar Hero</em> ... you ain't seen nuthin' yet. Activision-Blizzard revealed at an event for industry analysts that it intends to double the number of <em>Guitar Hero</em> SKUs (not necessarily unique games, just console-specific variations of "core" titles) in 2009. The goal is to triple them in 2010. Whammy bar!<br /><br />Considering that we had two console <em>Guitar Hero</em> titles this year, that would potentially mean four in 2009 (one being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>) and six in 2010. That's not even counting handhelds. So ... are you ready to rock, a <em>lot</em>? Or is this all just way too much noise? Let us know in comments.</div>
