The ESRB spilled the beans on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/26/more-guitar-hero-coming-with-modern-hits/">yet another version</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> for DS, this time including "modern hits" like "Paralyzer." We could debate the worth of the annual updates of the main <em>Guitar Hero</em> series, but we thought we would focus on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/the-ds-life-while-my-guitar-grip-gently-weeps/">DS version</a> for this topic. <br /><br />There are a few differences between the main <em>GH</em> and the portable series that could affect the worthiness of the (even more frequently than) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-compressed-into-one-minute/">annual releases</a>: on the one hand, there's no DLC to extend the DS games, and on the other hand, there are (probably) no new instrument controllers to add to the experience. Putting aside for a moment the question of whether <em>Guitar Hero</em> should <em>ever</em> be on the DS, should there be <em>multiples?</em> So often?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/27/ds-daily-no-more-guitar-heroes/">DS Daily: No More Guitar Heroes?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Dec 2008 10:30:00 EST. There are more barriers to playing with friends, most notably that each one needs a DS and a copy of the game, and it is impossible for more friends to watch your performance. So you end up playing alone with your headphones on. It's only natural for the only <em>Guitar Hero</em> that can be quickly hidden in a backpack.<br /><br />But <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/full-song-list-for-guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-revealed/"><em>On Tour: Decades</em></a> does have interaction in mind -- with other <em>On Tour </em>owners, in its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/guitar-hero-returns-with-awesome-multiplayer-underwhelming-setl/">song-sharing</a> capability, and of course the multiplayer gameplay. And the way this ad suggests such a meeting will occur is <em>not</em> through the party setting, but by chance meeting. If you want to find another <em>Guitar Hero</em> player, go out <em>on tour!</em><br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-compressed-into-one-minute/">Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades compressed into one minute</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 17:00:00 EST. Let's get one thing straight: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades"><em>Guitar Hero on Tour: Decades</em></a> is not the equivalent of "playing through the history of rock 'n' roll," as Activision puts it. And even if you could embody this history (which didn't begin in the 1970s, by the way) in just 28 master recordings, the unsubstantial collection wouldn't feature many, if any of the tracks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a> has licensed for its portable sequel. But we digress. You just wanna see the list, right? Head on down!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/schooled-guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-track-list/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Schooled: 'Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades' track list</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/schooled-guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-track-list/">Schooled: 'Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades' track list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 13:15:00 EST. Fuelled by the uncomfortable stares of those sitting close by, Activision has heard your cries for more on-the-go rocking, confirming that <em>Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades</em> will return to the portable stage on November 16. <br />
<br />
First <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-a-sequel/">announced during E3</a>, the encore performance will include a collection of master tracks pulled from the last 40 years, including Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen, as well as support wireless connectivity between both it and the original <em>On Tour</em> for competitive and co-op play. Not much else has been revealed, though something tells us that this November bus rides to work just got a little more awkward.<br />

In addition, Activision will ship a <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72561">standalone version</a> of the first <em>On Tour</em> for people picking up the <em>Decades</em> bundle. These standalone games will cost $34.99 each, which is almost as painful to <em>say</em> as it would be to <em>spend</em>. <br />
<br />
At least the slightly reduced price of the standalone cards will make collecting both games a bit less damaging to household finances than forced bundles, for those among us in single-DS homes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-launches-november-17-alongside-stan/">Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades launches November 17 alongside standalone On Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. <br />On the face of it, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-guitar-hero-back-on-tour-soon/"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades</em></a> is showing promise. IGN took the title out for a test strum, and we liked what they had to say about it. As well as new venues and characters, the ability to play songs from <em>Decades</em> against owners of <em>other Guitar Hero</em> DS games is an <em>excellent</em> addition -- the DS wirelessly transfers the audio track and note chart, essentially doubling the number of songs to those who bought <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/metareview-guitar-hero-on-tour/">the original <em>On Tour</em></a>. Speaking of which, <em>Decades </em>will come in two packs: one including the game and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/the-ds-life-while-my-guitar-grip-gently-weeps/">Guitar Grip</a>, and the other with just the cart.<br /><br />All of which is tremendously peachy, so what's the catch? Well, IGN also revealed the first ten songs, and in our not-so-humble opinion, they're -- <em>nnngh</em> -- not terribly good. Including <em>any </em>Fall Out Boy track is never the best of starts in our view, and as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/eric-caoili">Eric</a> pointed out, if you are going to include a Foo Fighters song, why not the superb "Everlong?" Okay, okay, so music is a divisive subject if ever there was one, but to us, this reeks of disappointment. We're certain you'll have an opinion, so check after the break for the full list.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/guitar-hero-returns-with-awesome-multiplayer-underwhelming-setl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero returns with awesome multiplayer, underwhelming setlist</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/guitar-hero-returns-with-awesome-multiplayer-underwhelming-setl/">Guitar Hero returns with awesome multiplayer, underwhelming setlist</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 19:00:00 EST. Over 350,000 units sold in three weeks ... on a handheld? You're damn straight Activision is already booking a second tour -- call it: <em>Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades</em>. The sequel to last month's (yeah, <em>last month's!</em>) palm-packed jam session was confirmed today during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-nintendos-e3-2008-keynote/">Nintendo E3 2008 keynote</a>. While not detailed, <em>Decades</em> will likely include a setlist that ranges multiple ... decades. The game will also include a song-sharing feature, allowing those with only the original <em>On Tour</em> to sample the<em> Decades</em> tracks. And apparently, there could be some form of microphone functionality (karaoke?) -- as if <em>On Tour</em> wasn't already awkward enough to play during the morning commute...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-a-sequel/">Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades ... a sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 14:15:00 EST.
