Turtle Beach has obtained the rights to market officially licensed Wii U headsets, revealing a pair of nice-looking devices that plug directly into the Wii U GamePad.

The $35 Ear Force NLa includes stereo sound, in-line volume control, and a microphone, and comes in black or white. The Ear Force N11 has "acoustically angled 50mm speakers" for "extended bass," a series of words that we are assured explains the higher $50 price. Both headsets can work with the 3DS and DS as well, for the rare chat-enabled game, and both will be available in Q4 of this year.

Oculus virtual reality headset looking for funding on Kickstarter

Most "virtual reality" helmets tend to be disappointing to say the least, but the Oculus Rift has gained a bit of buzz this year. Developer Palmer Luckey is now looking for funding via Kickstarter. "The reason we're using Kickstarter is so that we can get these dev kits into the hands of developers as fast as possible," Luckey says in the pitch video above. "That way they can try it for themselves and start integrating support into their games and engines."

The crowd-funding route has worked already, with the project securing more than double its $250,000 goal as of this writing. Limited prototype dev units - at $275 each - have all been claimed, leaving the $300 level as the cheapest route to get your hands on the hardware, which includes a copy of the upcoming, Rift-enabled revamp, Doom 3 BFG. In a related endorsement, id Software's John Carmack called the device "the best VR demo probably the world has ever seen."

That price is likely higher than what consumers will eventually pay for everything once the software is optimized and the design is finalized. The dev kits are set to be shipped out in December, so we could see a final product as soon as next year.

Mad Catz ships the Primer wireless headset for Xbox

Mad Catz has announced that it has shipped the Primer wireless headset. Sold under the Tritton brand, the stereo headset is notable in that it is the first officially licensed wireless headset for the Xbox 360. Nearly identical in appearance to Tritton's Detonator headset -- minus the cables, plus a "base station" -- the Primer utilizes 5.8GHz wireless tech, which purportedly cuts down on interference from appliances, phones and the like.

It's also worth noting that it will work only with the Xbox 360, so keep that in mind before plunking down the $100 asking price.

MadCatz's Tritton Detonator now shipping, detonating

We've all been there: It's 3 am, the guys you share your tiny studio apartment with are zonked out after a hard day's hack-sackin' down on the quad, but you'll be awake for another 6 hours, at least. Now, thanks to the Tritton Detonator from MadCatz and Microsoft, your bitter, sleep-deprived roommates will only hear the sound of your frantic stick waggling and trigger flicking, as opposed to the gunfire and chainsaws they normally have to deal with.

The Detonator is the first in a series of official 360 headphones, and its $80 entry fee delivers a USB cord, stereo sound, a detachable boom mic, voice monitoring capabilities and an in-line volume control for the whole kit-n-caboodle. Its big brother, the wireless, Dolby 7.1 rocking WarHead, is still reportedly on track for a holiday release, although we expect that model to cost a bit closer to the self-imposed $300 limit MadCatz mentioned when the headphones were announced.

PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset heads to retail September 6

Sony's chunky, weirdly attractive new wireless stereo headset for PS3 will arrive in North America on September 6, Sony announced today. The device was previously given a September release window.

In addition to just being bigger than most headsets we've seen, the $100 wireless (with a USB dongle) headset offers virtual 7.1-channel sound, a retractable mic, and on-screen headset status messages when used with a PS3.

You don't really need to see a video to understand how a headset works, but we have one anyway. As a nice bonus, you can see a bit of Uncharted 3 footage!

New Xbox 360 Wireless Headset with Bluetooth, Remote with Live TV button coming this November

It's generally accepted that while Microsoft may excel at creating software and platforms, it struggles with hardware. Just ask anyone that's replaced an Xbox 360 (that's just about everyone, right?). Also on that list: The original Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and the barebones Media Remote.

That's why we think you'll be excited to learn that Redmond is replacing both products with newly designed (and enhanced!) versions. The Xbox 360 Wireless Headset with Bluetooth will be available in "early November 2011" worldwide for $60, a $10 premium over the existing headset. In exchange for that $10, you'll get Bluetooth support, so you can use the headset with other devices, like cell phones and your PlayStation 3. It still connects to the Xbox 360 "through the console's standard radio frequencies," so it remains to be seen if audio quality will remain a problem.

Also available in early November is the new Xbox 360 Media Remote, for $20. While it doesn't offer a ton of improvements over the original, outside of the shiny new look, there is one notable addition: "Live TV, if provided on the Xbox 360 by your TV service provider, can also be controlled with the Xbox 360 Media Remote." While the original Xbox Media Remote also had a "Live TV" button, it accessed the console's Windows Media Center extender functionality; notably, the entire Media Center button has been removed. More likely, this button provides instant access to the still-mysterious live TV service announced at E3. We've asked Microsoft to clarify.

MadCatz launching 'WarHead' and other fancy Xbox 360 headsets

Hey, Mad Catz ... maybe "WarHead" isn't the best name for something that goes on your head. We kind of don't want war on our heads. But despite the name, Mad Catz's new Xbox 360 headset range might find a receptive audience. These are the first fruits of the company's wireless headset deal.

Mad Catz's audio-focused subsidiary Tritton is introducing a line of 360 headsets, including the wireless WarHead 7.1 and Devastator, and the "entry-level" wired Detonator. The WarHead has 7.1-channel Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II, and Dolby Headphone audio; the other two are stereo-only. The two wireless sets include a base station that connects to the Xbox through USB and either optical or RCA audio connections. Those base stations allow audio to be shared among four headsets, if you're in the middle of a weirdly antisocial gathering.

IGN notes that all three should be out before the end of the year, and none of them should exceed $300 in price. Hey, we just remembered that sometimes headphones cost more than $300! That's an even less appealing thought than putting a "WarHead" on our heads.

Now hear this: Sony's wireless PS3 stereo headset arrives in September

If you've found the official PlayStation 3 Bluetooth headset a little too monaural (or small) for your liking, listen to this. Sony will be releasing the PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset this September, offering one more audio channel and a much larger, over-the-ear form factor for a cool $100.

It's not actually a Bluetooth device -- the headset comes with a USB dongle needed to make it work, so getting that USB hub you've been thinking about would be a good idea if you want these cans. In addition to delivering "virtual" 7.1 surround sound and a fold-away boom mic, the rather hefty-looking accessory appears to include a PS2 Slim console over either ear. Weird, right?

Finally, you can play chat-enabled PS3 games outside in the city, while rendering your ear virtually undetectable. Sony has announced a new version of its latest Bluetooth headset, which is identical to the last release except for its "urban camo" color scheme.

It'll be available in GameStop stores for $49.99 starting April 19, allowing you to pick up a more militaristic accessory to go with SOCOM 4. If you happen to pick up one of the Killzone 3-themed Jungle Green controllers, you'll be able to blend in while playing games in two different environments.

Mad Catz to produce wireless 360 headphones for Microsoft

Mad Catz has announced that it's partnering with Microsoft to produce the first "wireless, licensed and co-branded headphones" for the Xbox 360. The headphones will be manufactured under the Tritton brand and will come in both stereo and Dolby 5.1 varieties. They should hit the shelves in time for the 2011 holiday season.

The press release is short on other details, though hopefully the headphones will pack Microsoft's proprietary wireless tech, allowing them to circumvent the cumbersome setup required by Tritton's current 360 compatible headsets. Like, if the new headsets don't have two AC adapters, that would be great.

So, you haven't invested in a voice chat solution for your PS3, but you want to have some amount of efficacy while playing Black Ops or MAG or one of the other multiplayer-centric titles on the platform? It sounds like you may want to check out the new, Sony-approved Bluetooth Headset, which will arrive at the appropriate retailers later this month.

The device, which will run you $49.99, has all the same features of its predecessor (charging dock/desktop mic, automatic syncing, a big shiny mute button) -- but it's now 30 percent smaller, and features stronger noise cancellation technology. Which is great, because we really hate hearing about your nearby best friend's hard day at work when we're, you know, at war.

StarCraft 2 Razer peripherals light up November

If your performance in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty isn't where you'd like it to be, perhaps it's because your controllers aren't glowing enough. Sure, the StarCraft 2-branded Spectre mouse, Marauder keyboard and Banshee headset from Razer (all designed in collaboration with Blizzard) have other features that make them well-suited for games -- like specialized configuration utilities and quick response times -- but those aren't why anyone would buy one of these. Cool backlighting is.

Besides, when the keyboard description lists things like "Optimized Key Travel Distance" as a selling point, "pretty lights" doesn't seem like such a minor thing to latch on to. The set will be released in the US, Europe and Korea in November, with the mouse retailing for $80 (€80/94,800 won), and the keyboard and headset for $120 (€120/142,800 won) each.

Yes, you'll be able to play the Wii version of Call of Duty: Black Ops online -- and even use voice chat, if you happen to have the proper equipment. To that end, PDP has announced the $25 "Headbanger Headset."

Conveniently, PDP is releasing the headset on November 9, timed with the release of the game. It'll be available in white, or in a "limited edition" Call of Duty: Black Ops version -- meaning: in black with the game's logo printed on it. That way, when someone asks you what you're playing, you can simply point at the side of your head, without the need for more conversation; which is good, because nobody would want to talk to you after that.

Logitech's new Xbox/PS3 headset helps you keep quiet

We're slightly confused by the pitch for Logitech's Wireless Headset F540 designed for Xbox 360 and PS3. "Don't wake the house," the website says, touting the headset's ability to deliver game audio and voice chat through the headphones simultaneously. But you still have to talk for voice chat to work, and, barring some absurd Cone of Silence contraption, that's still going to make noise.

Regardless of the marketing angle, the headset itself looks pretty nice. It works with both the Xbox 360 and PS3 wirelessly, includes three inputs, and has a noise-canceling mic. All those features come at a price, however. If you want to whisper to your in-game pals while wearing one of these, it's going to run you $150.

Astro Gaming wants you to play Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker the right way: with a headset larger than a PSP and almost as expensive. The company has unveiled a special Peace Walker version of its A30 headset, featuring Peace Walker imagery on the earphones. It has the same cross-platform compatibility as the traditional A30, and the same ability to swap out the graphics.

If you want the sides of your head to bear the Peace Walker logo (and if you also want to hear sounds and stuff), you can pick one of these up for $150. You can also add $20 and get a ~~downloadable~~ boxed copy of the game, which is probably something you want, considering that you're hypothetically going to drop crazy bucks on a headset with its name on it.

[Update: corrected the bonus offer: $20 gets you a retail, packaged copy of Peace Walker.]

Mad Catz acquires headset manufacturer Tritton Technologies

Mad Catz is looking to dip its toes into the cool, soothing waters of the high-quality gaming headset market, as is evident by its recent acquisition of fellow peripheral manufacturer, Tritton Technologies. Mad Catz announced today that it had purchased 100 percent of Tritton's stock for $1 million, with an additional $9 million in bonuses available to the headset company based on sales success of its products over the next five years.

In addition to snatching up Tritton's product line, Mad Catz also entered into an employment agreement with Tritton CEO Christopher Von Huben, as well as a "limited number of other key Tritton employees." Maybe these new elements within the company will be able to convince its leaders to finally drop that eponymous "z" for a much more respectable "s."

Rumor: Discount Xbox 360 Elite Halo 3 bundle coming to Canada (update)

Another day, another Xbox 360 Elite price cut rumor. This time, said gossip comes to us in the form of a tipster (who wishes to remain anonymous), whose unnamed Canadian retail outlet is adding a new SKU to its store shelves -- a $349.99 Xbox 360 Elite bundle which includes a copy of Halo 3 and a network adapter. Considering both of those items still carry fairly hefty price tags, that's one heck of a deal.

Said tipster sent in four photos (the others are posted after the jump) and a supposed street date for the Canadian bundle -- August 28. Another interesting bit of info: The tipster also claimed that a new shipment of Xbox 360 Arcades carry no mention of the supposedly-soon-to-be-phased-out Pro model. If you're a Canadian retail employee who can shed some light onto the veracity of this new bundle, shoot us an email -- and as always, we'll respect your anonymity. We'll also respect your anemones. And your enmity!

Update: We've just received a tip pointing out that this very bundle is now available at The Source, a Circuit City affiliate based out of Canada. Get this -- the online offer actually shows a $329.99 price tag for the whole kit-and-caboodle. Oh, if only we lived up in America's Big White Hat!

Confirmed: Bluetooth headset will be $50, will require firmware update

It appears that speculation has become truth: the official PS3 Bluetooth headset will be available in North America with a MSRP of $49.99. For only $10 more, players will be able to get the SOCOM Confrontation bundle, which includes the headset and a copy of the upcoming shooter on Blu-ray disc. Although PS3 is compatible with most Bluetooth headsets, a new firmware update will enhance the experience when using the official headset. A new High-Quality (HQ) mode will use "advanced wireless technologies and the Headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with the PS3 system."

Sony is promising future titles will support HQ mode. For example, future games may have voice animation where the in-game character will mimic your speech. Proximity chat will offer voice playback in full surround sound, to match the sound effects featured in the game.

The $50 headset will also be compatible with most cell phones. In addition, it will also work as a desktop microphone when docked with the supplied charging cradle. However, note that HQ mode is only available on the PS3, for titles that support HQ mode.

Official PS3 headset priced at 5000 yen in Japan

The official PS3 headset, which will be bundled with SOCOM Confrontation, really may be as high as $50 when it releases as a standalone product later this year. This would make the $60 SOCOM bundle an obvious deal, as it would give players both the headset and access to the online shooter for only $10 more than the headset alone.

The headset, which will debut on October 30th in Japan, will cost 5000 yen (~$45.93). It is supposedly of a much higher quality than the headset included with Warhawk last year.

SOCOM Confrontation's retail release will include a Bluetooth headset, Sony reconfirmed today -- this time with pictures. While similar to the Jabra headset packaged inside Warhawk's box (and later removed), SOCOM's offering actually appears to be well-designed and, in fact, PlayStation-branded. Features include a prominent Mute button, USB charging cradle, and extended battery life. Sony has neither finalized the design nor priced a standalone model, but the SOCOM bundle is rumored to fetch $80.

SOCOM headset officially revealed

The Blu-ray retail version of SOCOM Confrontation will include a Bluetooth headset. However, expect something much classier than the one included in the Warhawk bundle so long ago. This one is made specifically with gaming in mind -- and as such, earns the official PlayStation branding. The headset, which will also be available seperately from the game, is designed for long use and even includes a much-needed Mute button, a feature uncommon to most Bluetooth headsets. The device will also include a USB cradle, so that it can be charged via the PS3.

While neither the design and price have been completely finalized, Sony plans on pricing this quite competitively. From the looks of its quality, we believe Sony will charge more than what they did for Warhawk.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset gets reviewed

We were originally excited about the official Metal Gear Solid 4 headset. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the headset is worth the money. Gadget Madness has posted an incredibly helpful video review of the device, and it highlights the rather poor audio quality produced by the device. The recordings are very fuzzy, to the point where words blur and become indecipherable. Yikes! While this headset may not do the trick, we're confident that Sony's official SOCOM headset will blow away the competition in both quality and value.

A few months ago, we reported that SOCOM Confrontation will release in retail stores with a brand new Bluetooth headset for $60 -- it's a similar package to the one crafted for Warhawk, but this new headset will be officially PlayStation-branded. An e-mail about an upcoming SOCOM media event made quick mention of the device, confirming its existence, but offered no new details. We hope to get some pictures and some ears-on time with the new headset later this month.

The last time we saw this stylish Metal Gear Solid 4 headset we were only treated to a drawing of what the product would look like. It wasn't the actual thing. The picture above, however, is a shot of the real piece of equipment. Isn't it beautiful? Don't you just want one? We know we do.

The headset is a Bluetooth 2.0 device and will work with both the PS3 and mobile phones. The headset is priced at $59.99 in North America and should be available alongside the launch of MGS4 on June 12. If you want to see more pics of the headset and its carrying case, head on over here.

Sony launches PSP headset with remote for Skype

Sony has announced the release -- finally! -- of the PSP headset with remote control, ideal for your handheld Skype yammering. The headset is currently available at Amazon and GameStop for the MSRP of $30 and buy.com for $20. The headset was originally due out last month for $20; it launched in Japan mid-March.

Why is this taking so long? Many have inquired about the PSP Skype headset, which was originally listed as an April release for $20. Now, amazon.com is showing a May 7th release and a price of $30.

We love using Skype on our PSP -- it's a nifty free feature that we'd like to see become ubiquitous in the community. However, without this official headset, we don't think too many people are going to jump on the Skype bandwagon. C'mon, Sony! Let's get this headset out there!

Update: Reader Rick Adams pointed out an excellent deal: buy.com has the headset available for $16 + $6 shipping. They have the product listed for release on April 25th.

See this Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset, Snake. Snake? SNAKE!

Getting us all one step closer to our very own direct Codec link with the Colonel, comes this Metal Gear Solid 4-styled Bluetooth headset for, well ... ostensibly for the PS3 but - seeing as how this is a Bluetooth headset - you could use it with your regular old cellphone. You and Otacon can talk about love on the battlefield for up to eight hours from up to 30 feet away from your PS3.

This headset should be in stores just in time for the game's release on June 12 and - considering how similar it looks to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Headset - it should come as little surprise that it will carry the same $59.99 pricetag. To paraphrase the great Solid Snake, "we don't believe in coincidences."

DS headset reaches exciting new levels of cheapness

We've been following the continual drop in price of the DS headset for a while. Every time it shows up on Amazon with a new price, we think "Wow, we should totally buy one! It's never going to be any cheaper than this!" But this time, it's cheap for real. Amazon is running out of the amount by which they could reduce the price.

Right now, the retailer is offering new Nintendo-brand DS headsets for just $5.68. You could get one for each ear, and carry on conversations with yourself as you play Metroid Prime: Hunters against yourself (although, yes, one would be on backwards)! Or you could save an extra one in case the first one gets all nasty from being in your ear! Or you could just not spend very much money and have a headset.

Metal Gear Solid 4 gets Bluetooth headset

Looks like a Metal Gear Solid 4-branded Bluetooth headset is about to come out, just in time for the release of the game. For a MSRP of $60, this gray over-the-ear headset will allow you to trashtalk opponents in Metal Gear Online. The device has 8 hours of talktime, a 30 foot range, and comes with a carrying case. Obviously, it'll work for all PS3 games, not just MGS4.

DS headset comfortably priced at Amazon

We always liked the headset Nintendo manufactured for the DS. In fact, if we weren't obligated to give the thing away, we would've been content on lying about its existence forever and holding on to the darn thing. But, then again, we'd probably lose this sweet gig we've got going now.

Anyhow, you all should know the peripheral has dropped in price on Amazon, only requiring the small sum of $7.34 of your Earth monies. That's pretty low, if you ask us, and a must-buy for anyone who enjoys playing Metroid Prime Hunters or Pokemon Diamond & Pearl on the regular. And, in checking out the price at other outlets like Buy.com and Wal-Mart, we found the headset was priced much higher (around $15 and $20, respectively).

Looks like that rumor was right ...

The PSP Headset Kit for Skype is coming in April for a very affordable price of $20. This kit makes much more sense than the current solution, which requires users to get two separate accessories. Hopefully, this release will not only encourage more PSP users to try Skype, but to try voice communication in their online-enabled games.

Rumor: SOCOM Confrontation bundle includes new Bluetooth headset

A supposedly leaked PowerPoint presentation revealed a new official Bluetooth headset for PS3. Set to launch in July/August, the headset would retail for $50 individually. More exciting, however, is SOCOM Confrontation bundle that's mentioned: both the game and headset would hit retail for $60.

The design of this rumored headset is an improvement over the one offered with Warhawk. However, don't get your hopes up quite yet. When asked for comment, a SCEA representative told us that "we have currently made no announcements for a new PS3 headset so any information is speculation and rumor."

Rumor: New accessories coming in April

A supposedly leaked PowerPoint presentation revealed some potentially new accessories from Sony. If this information turns out to be true, PSP owners can anticipate a new traveler case and Media Manager software this coming April/May. Both will retail for $20. More exciting, however, is the potential for a Skype Headset Kit. Currently, PSP owners must purchase two separate accessories in order for Skype to work. Providing one easy to purchase solution is far more ideal.

The same PowerPoint presentation also mentions that SCEA is planning to release the GPS peripheral in America for under $150. Unfortunately, when asked for comment, a SCEA rep informed us that "any information is speculation and rumor."

Just a guess, but maybe this Logitech headset is higher quality than the one bundled with Warhawk? Hardcore Warhawk fans (or those who bought the download version) might want to keep an eye out for this headset.

Official DS headset sale keeps your chatting cheap

Though we've featured online deals for DS headsets in the past, we've never seen Nintendo's official headset priced as low as it is right now at Amazon! The online shop has marked it down by more than 50%, selling the white accessory for only $6.99. That's even cheaper than a buffet dinner at Ponderosa Steakhouse! Admittedly, Ponderosa has some fried chicken wings that are to die for, but those delicious bits of white meat won't help you chat with your friends while playing Pokemon D/P or Planet Puzzle League... Or will they?

This deal ends today, or while stocks last, so put in your order while you can! Failing that, you could always just head to Ponderosa instead! We also suggest you try their dinner rolls.

The clever and very observative fanboy SRU Phil spotted a little mistake over on Xbox.com's accessory page pertaining to the ~~Halo 2~~ Halo 3 wireless headset. It's not called a Halo 2 headset guys and mistakes like that could so get a guy's hand chopped off or tongue ripped out. Unless of course the ad isn't a mistake and is really a leaked announcement. Maybe something along the idea that the Halo 3 wireless headset will come with a free copy of Halo 2 Vista. That's it! It's confirmed, buy the Halo 3 wireless headset and get Halo 2 Vista for free. Man, we're too good.

Halo's Todd McFarlane controllers and wireless headset

Microsoft is going all out with their Halo tie-ins for that big incoming finale. On top of the Mad Catz merchandise, there are some official Microsoft Halo 3 accessories incoming to finish the fight. GamingTalkHQ found images of two official Xbox controllers and a Halo 3 wireless headset for the Xbox 360 at Gamestop.com.

All three items are listed at $59.99 with a release of Sept. 4; however, Gamestop is notoriously bad with their prices and dates this far out. The controller art is done by Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and also comes with a Halo 3 figurine by McFarlane Toys. So, maybe, it will end up costing $60. We'll find out more closer to release and when these items become "official".
