Visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, whose cinematic opuses include Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy films, recently told MTV Multiplayer that the "next few weeks" would bring about the announcement of his first foray into game development. Del Toro, who has long been an outspoken fan of gaming, explained he's partnering with a "big company" and is planning to "do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting."

Given del Toro's unique cinematic and storytelling style, we'd love to see what he could do behind the helm of an interactive project. We're thinking it's either going to be a twisted, fairy tale-esque story with haunting visuals and thought-provoking mature themes, or a game about throwing sports equipment at towers of Jenga blocks.

So that's what that mysterious whiteboard was about! Judge Dredd is getting his own sticker pack in LittleBigPlanet, one of many upcoming packs to LittleBigPlanet. According to Edge, a number of graphic artists are collaborating with Sony's community-driven platformer. Jon Burgermann is one of the first artists confirmed to be designing a few stickers for the game.

Media Molecule has approached a number of artists as well, such as Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and French artist Claire Wendling. Users who download stickers will be able to get a lot more functionality in the future as an upcoming patch will allow players to create items simply using stickers. "They are so empowering those bits because you just stick them on the materials, cut it out, and you've got like a handmade character."

Were you able to make it to the Blu-ray exclusive live chat with Hellboy II director, Guillermo del Toro? If not, Engadget HD has you covered. The first-ever BD-Live chat didn't go without its hitches, but there's hope in knowing future interactive experiences will be better than this. The director touts the Blu-ray disc release an opportunity for the "perfect home theater experience," as it gives viewers access to a truly encyclopedic view of the production of a film. Hopefully, other big budget movies will be able to follow with their own live commentary sessions in future Blu-ray releases.

We're finally starting to see the full potential of BD-Live come to life. BD-Live is the final Blu-ray movie standard, and it adds interactive online content to movies. One of the first discs to take advantage of BD-Live is the Hellboy II Blu-ray disc. Those that own the disc will be able to take part in a live chat with director Guillermo Del Toro this Sunday at 6PM EST. If you're interested in chatting, you need to register an account at UniversalHiDef.com and then log on to the movie using your PS3 (or BD-Live compatible Blu-ray player).

The potential of BD-Live is quite exciting. Should the Del Toro chat go well, we can only hope that other studios also add these opportunities to their Blu-ray movies.

No, it's not a news related OMG Megaton. It's more like a "holy effing crap, look at all these games" kind of megaton. There are ten, ten games hitting the Xbox 360 this week. What's more, a lot of them look decent and, dare we say it, some of them even look good. Just look at all of 'em.
It's enough to give someone googly eyes. Alone in the Dark has our interest piqued (and has thus far fared decently in Europe). Here's hoping it -- and everything else here -- is up to snuff.

We love Hellboy. There's no way around it really. From his square jaw to his stone fist to his glowing eyes, he really the most likable son of the devil we've ever known. Seeing as we like him so much, we really want Hellboy: Science of Evil to be a good game. We'll have to wait and see if that actually happens. These new screens look decent enough, but the video looks ... okay. We're keeping our hopes as low as possible. With any luck, we'll be pleasantly surprised. Everyone's favorite stone-fisted, demonic antihero is following in the grand tradition of superhero adaptations -- begin with a cult classic Dark Horse mini-series, follow that up with a film adaptation starring the incredible Ron Perlman, and then continue to make the obligatory licensed action game of uncertain quality, in this case, the oft-delayed Hellboy: The Science of Evil. Our trademark trepidation is somewhat shaken by the above trailer's God of War-esque combat and frequent quips (delivered by Perlman himself, whose impressive video game repertoire includes voice acting roles in the Fallout and Halo series) -- has the ugly duckling we encountered at last year's E3 undergone a much-needed makeover?

You can finally rest easy today because we have new screens of Hellboy: Science of Evil. Based on the upcoming sequel to the awesome ... pretty good ... movie released in 2004, Hellboy: Science of Evil (from Konami) puts you in the role of, the Ron Perlman voiced, Hellboy as he battles the various forms of evil.

The screens might look dated, but that's only because this game has been in development since mid-2006. As we all know way back in 2006 programmers has to walk uphill to work, both ways, in sixteen feet of snow. Things were rough.

We'll be honest. We weren't impressed by Hellboy. Although Konami promises the PSP version will feature enhancements over the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, we can't say the uninspired gameplay will convert any new fans. At least it doesn't look too bad:

Hellboy is a licensed game. And it shows. Published by Konami, the game is developed by Krome Studios, famous for their work on Barbie Beach Vacation and Sunny Garcia Surfing.

Like so many licensed games, Hellboy simply doesn't feel original or engaging. Although designed exclusively for PS3 and Xbox 360, the graphics are mediocre at best. The battle system focuses on Hellboy killing everything in his way. The environment features fairly standard items to pick up and use as weapons, and the battle system is systematically formulaic.

Fans of the franchise will be comforted to know that Mike Mignola does have involvement with the game. However, strictly speaking, the Hellboy game failed to grasp our attention amongst a slew of much more interesting, original, and involving games.

Konami announced today that the actors from the film adaptation of Mike Mignola's Hellboy will reprise their roles in the upcoming Hellboy game from Konami. The press release details that Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, and Doug Jones will reprise their roles as Hellboy, Liz Sherman, and Abe Sapien respectively. While we certainly can't complain about the gravelly wonder that is Ron Perlman's voice, we're curious about Doug Jones. Hellboy afficionados will know that Abe Sapien was indeed played by Doug Jones but was voiced by Frasier's David Hyde Pierce, who refused to be credited for the film as not to detract from Jones' performance. So, here's the question: who will actually voice Abe Sapien?

Oh yay, Eddie Murphy in a fat suit again ...

Trading Places and Hellboy look like solid purchases, anything else catch your eye this week? And if you say Norbit, you're getting banned.

From SGD '07 we got four new shots of the video game based on Mike Mignola's fantastic comic series, Hellboy. Hellboy himself is looking pretty lean and young in the shots, much younger than in the comic books or the movie. Is it possible that the videogame is a sequel to the movie series perhaps?

Sony is finally upgrading their long-forgotten "Memory Stick Entertainment Packs." These packs come with a bundled DVD that features four movies, pre-encoded for PSP playback. The previous pack came with the choice of cinematic masterpieces, such as The Grudge, S.W.A.T., Hitch, and XXX: State of the Union. Yeah ...

According to IGN, the new MSX-M2GSEP model will feature a different collection of four movies: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Spider-man 2, Hellboy and S.W.A.T. (again?) While the selection isn't too great, the sheer convenience is certainly appreciated. Unfortunately, the DVD can only be used to unlock one movie, so make sure you choose wisely.

This package will be available at Sony Style stores for about $60. The package will also include a 2GB Memory Stick.

We plunge GameTrailers for today's video pick, a Hellboy trailer that makes us tentatively look forward to comic franchises again since the Neversoft Ghost Rider game that never was. Of course it's still just a trailer, and a lot can change before the game is released this summer. But Hellboy looks good, with its 3D engine rendering in a style that fits its comic history.

It's quite a ways off from coming out, but GameVideos gameplay movie of Hellboy for the PSP looks promising even in this very early stage. The title is being developed by Krome Studios who previously made Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and the most recent Spyro game. This is quite a departure content-wise from their typical release, but a character action game isn't so different from an action platformer. This is Krome Studios' first PSP game though, which may be the only snag. Here's hoping Hellboy fans can feel proud picking this one up when it comes out.

Last week we brought you moving pictures of Konami's upcoming Hellboy. Along with it we mentioned Ron Perlman's involvement, and gameplay mechanics and the co-op over Xbox Live. Today, we're giving you some stationary eye candy for you to enjoy. Click the "Read" link to take a gander and be sure to wipe the drool from the side of your mouth. Konami released some new details about Hellboy today. Chief among these details is that Ron Perlman -- who played Hellboy in the 2004 movie -- will be reprising his role as Hellboy in all videogame versions of the franchise. With film director, Guillermo Del Toro (go see Pan's Labyrinth, now), and comic creator, Mike Mignola, on board, Hellboy should be quite a treat for fans when it arrives on the Xbox 360 this fall. The game has a combat system that sits somewhere between God of War and Devil May Cry with a deep grappling system to boot. Hellboy will also feature online co-op. As fans of Hellboy, we're looking forward to trying it out. Check out the latest gameplay footage after the break.

Hellboy director consults for gameHellboy director Guillermo del Toro hopes to add some personal touches to the PSP's Hellboy video game that weren't present in the franchise's debut a few years back. You see, Hellboy was released in 2004 to some pretty lackluster reviews. The game has a 12-percent Gameranking score. Seriously. So you can see why del Toro, who is a consultant along with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, wants to give his two cents on the next game.

Speaking to IGN about his new Hellboy game, del Toro said, "The essential weapon of Hellboy, and this I love, is not only his glove, which like in the movie can be charged with power, but he can use everything available. If he destroys a door, he can grab a piece of that door and start beating the crap out of someone! Or if he destroys a stone archway, he can pick up a stone and throw it. I think it's looking very promising. We played a few demo minutes the other day and we had fun."

The game, which will be published by Konami, is del Toro's first foray into the video game industry, but it won't be his last. He's working with Terminal Reality to bring us Sundown, a game that combines zombies and a post-apocalyptic world together into a gamer's wet dream.

The popular Dark Horse Comics demon hero, Hellboy, is receiving the royal video game treatment thanks to the same fellow who brought us the decent-to-great movie (debatable... never saw it, but got mixed reactions from friends), Guillermo Del Toro. What's Del Toro got in store for us? "[It has] several environments where, essentially, you are seeing the past and the present, and they are juxtaposed. You can go from one environment, like the Gobi desert, to a haunted town in medieval Japan. And then you can go and play in the ruins of a castle that is full of Nazi doomsday machines. And then you can go and wander through the empty streets of a haunted Eastern European village. And each of those levels has a common threat enemy, and a great vibe to the gameplay." And then, and then, and then... he definitely gets excited about what he does!

Apparently, much of the fighting in the game relies on finding pieces of the environment around you to use as a weapon. Say you break open a door. Why not pick up a large splintered piece of it and bash your opponents? Or crack a stone pillar then pick up some rocks to toss. It sounds like it has a bit of promise, so long as Hellboy himself isn't the only playable character. Come on, you can't possibly expect a game based on a comic book team (kinda sorta) to just use the main character. Otherwise, utilizing environments for weaponry is cool. Especially if it's as detailed as Del Toro excitedly claims.

Because somebody out there has to care. In a follow-up interview to one conducted way back in February, Aussie developer Krome Studios confirms that their furry friend from down under will indeed make an appearance on Nintendo's next console. After commenting on the studio's current projects, Konami's Hellboy and The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, the tricky-to-pronounce Steve Stamatidiadis notes that "the Wii is the perfect platform for a TY game and you can bet your booties that we'll be doing one down the track."

Since our considerably valued booties are on the line, we'd also wager that the Wii version of TY the Tasmanian Tiger will involve chucking the wiimote like a boomerang in order to defeat at least one evil robot kangaroo. With a talking animal jumping over platforms and such, the game will no doubt be a veritable explosion of creativity (and other Australian stereotypes). Somebody can't wait.
