The Sportsfriends games are J.S. Joust, Hokra, BaraBariball and Pole Riders, and if you haven't seen any of them in action yet, you're truly missing out.

The live stream will be entertaining, yes, but it serves a greater purpose: getting eyeballs on the Sportsfriends Kickstarter project, which has three days to raise $70,000. Regardless of your donation intention, the Sportsfriends stream will be more entertaining than any prime-time programming you'd otherwise be watching tonight, guaranteed.

Grab some buddies and check out the live stream on Twitch TV tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Hang out with the Sportsfriends live stream tonight from Tumblr HQ originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Dec 2012 17:20:00 EST. And it's bringing friends.

Sportsfriends is a collection of four indie games that all share a focus on local multiplayer and a capacity to draw crowds of spectators. Producer Doug Wilson, who also created J.S. Joust, told Joystiq he thinks of the downloadable collection as "a 21st-century reincarnation of Summer Games." Accordingly, it'll be released in "Summer/Fall 2013."

The collection will be funded both by Sony's Pub Fund and through a Kickstarter, which will also act as a pre-order platform. Now let's make friends with the four new sports:
Continue reading J.S. It wasn't necessarily flashier, prettier or more famous than any of the other titles, but it was a game made for public exhibitions - literally.

"Hokra was originally created with the public space in mind, but it was also developed to be the kind of game that I'd like to play with my friends," Corbetta told Joystiq.

Hokra premiered on May 12, 2011 at the NYU Game Center's No Quarter exhibition, and Corbetta developed it with that venue specifically in mind.

"I developed Hokra to be a multiplayer game, and to be honest when I was first developing it I wasn't thinking about how to sell it," he said. "I was only thinking about how to make the best possible game, and since it was going to be displayed in a gallery space, I knew there would always be multiple people around to play it."

Hokra is a simplistic, competitive digital sports game for four local players, and only four local players. Not online, not three, two or one, but four physical people ideally using Xbox 360 controllers, always. This design choice stems from Hokra's gallery goal, but also from Corbetta's passion for local multiplayer titles.
Continue reading IndieCade at E3: Hokra, a minimalist sports game with huge appeal, equal barriers

IndieCade at E3: Hokra, a minimalist sports game with huge appeal, equal barriers originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 06:30:00 EST.
