We made it through another year, folks! Take that, death! And with another year's end comes a new volley of holiday cards created by game industry developers, publishers, and publications. In honor of our features editor and most prolific writer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/editor/jc-fletcher">JC Fletcher</a>, we've adorned the header image above with Tiny Cartridge's adorably handheld-themed card (he's half of the team that makes up <a href="http://tinycartridge.com/">Tiny Cartridge</a>, you see).<br />
<br />
We'd also like to thank you, dear reader, for joining us for another year of video game news, previews, reviews, and features heavily laced with puns and semi-obscure pop culture references. We'll have <em>much, much more</em> in the coming year, as you can imagine.<br />
<br />
Another treat we'd suggest you check out (and one that can't be jammed into a gallery) is <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/the-second-annual-destructoid-christmas-album-218352.phtml">Destructoid's second annual Christmas album</a>. That's some serious dedication to the holiday spirit right there! While you listen to that, might we suggest heading into the gallery below and flipping through this year's holiday cards? Or get some coffee first, perhaps -- it's okay, we'll wait. All set? Go for it!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/">Game Industry Holiday Cards 2011</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/#4700550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/chrismascard2011-atomhawk_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/#4700551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/christmas-card-dec-2011simbin_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/#4700552"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/dtpchristmas_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/#4700553"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/gaikaiholidaygreetings2011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-industry-holiday-cards-2011/#4700554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/gamebakersxmas11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/25/2011-game-industry-holiday-card-blowout/">2011 game industry holiday card blowout</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 25 Dec 2011 10:00:00 EST. Did you ravenously unwrap a gift this holiday season, only to discover a redeemable PSN card within? Don't despair -- that card can actually be turned into video games!<br />
<br />
We've got a bunch of suggestions on which 2011 video games you should transmogrify your e-money into after the jump. Whether you're using a PS3 or PSP, we've got you covered.<br />

Christmas obviously appeals to our materialistic side, but leaves much to be desired in the instant gratification department. Sony's giving European PlayStation Plus subscribers the best of both of those worlds: Starting today, Sony's letting those users <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/12/01/playstation-plus-presents-the-12-gifts-of-christmas/">download a new title for free</a>, rotating in a new complimentary game every two days. It's like that song, The 12 Days of Christmas, only it's games instead of days, and <em>Sonic the Hedgehog 2</em> instead of exotic fowl.<br />
<br />
That's the first title, by the way -- <em>Sonic 2</em> is free for European Plussers until December 3, when a new game will be swapped in. If you've been a member since the service became available, don't get your hopes up: The 12 games have all be free on PlayStation Plus at some point or another. We've contacted Sony to see if a similar offer will be made in North America as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/01/playstation-plus-doles-out-christmas-gifts-in-europe/">PlayStation Plus doles out Christmas gifts in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Dec 2011 18:10:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/22/rock-band-3-review/">our review</a> called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em></a> "the only rhythm game you'll ever need," we didn't know it'd be taken quite so literally. Mad Catz announced today that it would be releasing a follow-up to the Harmonix masterpiece ... in the form of <em>Rock Band 3</em>. Yes, the peripheral powerhouse has taken over publishing duties and will put the game back on shelves this holiday season.<br />
<br />
The re-release may seem like an unconventional deal (and it is) but it's easy to see the logic. For starters, the game's original publisher, MTV Games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/mtv-games-shut-down/">doesn't exist any more</a>. Plus, Mad Catz is getting more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/mad-catz-moves-beyond-peripherals-and-into-xbox-360-game-publish/">involved with the publishing world</a> and is already the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/mad-catz-now-principal-peripherals-partner-for-rock-band-franc/">official manufacturer</a> of Rock Band instruments.<br />
<br />
Mad Catz says it will bundle the game with its various instruments including the Fender Mustang guitar/controller hybrid, though not the drum kit as far as we can tell. <strike>We're also looking into platforms -- thus far, we know only that Mad Catz has a publisher license agreement for Xbox 360. We've reached out for comment and will let you know what we hear back.</strike> <strong>Update</strong>: For the moment, 360 is the only platform Mad Catz will confirm the rerelease for. Specific bundle details are still to come. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/mad-catz-re-releasing-rock-band-3-with-its-peripherals/">Mad Catz re-releasing Rock Band 3 with its peripherals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. Well, it's official: Ric Turner is an <em>insane person</em>. We didn't think he'd be able to top last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/15/christmas-light-hero-brings-rhythm-to-the-holidays/">interactive, luminous <em>masterpiece</em></a>, but his latest Christmas lights-based game, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDZtIirXXtQ"><em>Snowball Blaster</em></a>, is the coolest thing <em>ever</em>. (Though, you'd probably disagree if you were Ric Turner's neighbor.)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/christmas-lights-programmed-into-snowball-blaster-video-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Christmas lights programmed into 'Snowball Blaster' video game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/christmas-lights-programmed-into-snowball-blaster-video-game/">Christmas lights programmed into 'Snowball Blaster' video game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 23:30:00 EST. The NPD Group recently <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20101007005445/en">conducted a poll</a> among American consumers to track their "spending intentions" for the rapidly approaching holiday shopping rush. Of the poll's 2,003 participants, 9 percent said they plan to spend more money than they did last holiday season (down from 11 percent in 2009), 61 percent said they plan to spend the same (up from 59 percent) and the number of people who plan to spend less than they did last year remained steady at 30 percent. A <em>responsible</em> 30 percent.<br />
<br />
The poll also inquired what hot items would end up in respondents' checkout baskets -- 15 percent of those polled said they were planning on purchasing video games, a 5 percent decrease from last year. We know what you're thinking: "If people aren't buying video games, they're probably buying fragrances, right?" Wrong. Fragrances fell from 19 percent to 13 percent. Seeing as how those two items are consistently <em>all we ask for</em> during the holidays, we're not sure what everyone else is dropping their cash on.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/08/npd-issues-outlook-for-consumers-holiday-shopping-habits/">NPD issues outlook for consumers' holiday shopping habits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Oct 2010 05:00:00 EST. We were far too busy a-wassailing yesterday to notice, but Valve released a soon-to-be-holiday-classic that we think is going to catch on like <em>wildfire</em>. It's the latest track from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em>'s</a> quartet of bearded troubadours, the Midnight Riders, titled "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrZdvW6BBkc">All I Want for Christmas (Is To Kick Your Ass)</a>." It's a lot like that one song with the similar title, only ... with more ass-kicking, we guess. Unsurprisingly, it's not suitable for work -- but <em>incredibly</em> suitable for your family gatherings. Click past the jump to rekindle that holiday spirit.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/26/left-4-dead-2s-midnight-riders-wish-you-a-merry-christmas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Left 4 Dead 2's Midnight Riders wish you a Merry Christmas</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/26/left-4-dead-2s-midnight-riders-wish-you-a-merry-christmas/">Left 4 Dead 2's Midnight Riders wish you a Merry Christmas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Dec 2009 14:00:00 EST. Yearning for a hearty adventure, but struggling to get by on the pathetic wages of a Caribbean flooring inspector? If so, today's advertised Xbox Live Deal of the Day (part of an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/10/xblm-december-deals-cheap-shadow-complex-maw/">ongoing promotion</a>) should float your cup of tea -- right onto the shores of Monkey Island. The Xbox Live Arcade version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/discover-the-secret-of-monkey-island-again-on-july-15/"><em>The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition</em></a> has been marked down by 50 percent to 400 MS Points ($5). <br />
<br />
Some readers reported having some difficulty obtaining yesterday's deal at the advertised price. If the reduced price doesn't reflect on the Xbox Live Marketplace yet, be sure to try again later today. And if you're the good sort that's already completed this classic bout of pirating, perhaps you should join us later today as we taste pies and assign numerical scores to them. <br />

This time of year is usually one of peace and safe comfort for just about everyone. The same can't be said for the land of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quake-live"><em>Quake Live</em></a>, where id Software has <a href="http://www.quakelive.com/#preview/winter2009">injected some Yuletide spirit</a> into the browser-based frag-em-up's usual industrial surroundings. For two weeks, players can enjoy a Christmas-themed remake of <em>Team Arena</em> map "Distant Screams," now named "Silent Night."<br />
<br />
This update doesn't add particularly festive weapons to the mix, but the fresh coat of winter wonderland paint is certainly welcome. Nothing tops off the Christmas spirit tank like a little rocket play beneath <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quake-live-christmas-2009/2559769/full">giant candy canes</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quake-live-christmas-2009/2559768/full">a star-filled sky</a>, after all.<br />

This latest ad from Nintendo isn't the usual we've come accustomed to seeing from The Big N. For one, it lacks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/nintendo-wants-you-to-play-for-you-and-celebrities/">any</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/19/beyonce-is-in-rhythm-heaven-ads-loves-guitar-hero/">celebrity</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/nicole-kidman-brain-age-2-ad/">presence</a> whatsoever. Second, it's the most original ad we've seen from Nintendo since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/10/little-mac-trains-doc-louis-eats-in-latest-punch-out-commerci/">the hilarious <em>Punch-Out!!</em> commercial</a>. Finally, we're just <em>really</em> into disappointed father figures. It's kinda our thing.<br />
<br />
Head past the break to check out the ad.<br />

Rather than choosing something selfish like the opportunity to ride Donald Trump like a pony or a trip around the Moon with the original Apollo 11 astronauts, 12-year-old Make-A-Wish Foundation wish recipient Emily Adkins instead chose to give back to the foundation. In designing the <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20091125005111&amp;newsLang=en">Holiday 2009 GameStop gift card</a>, Adkins secured $1 per card purchased (up to $100k) for the Make-A-Wish coffers. <br /><br />Though the design will be featured amongst other gift cards this year, GameStop is offering the donation deal across all card designs. Any gift cards purchased from now until December 26 will go towards the donations, though none of the proceeds will bring Emily any closer to riding Donald Trump like a pony. Isn't that just a crime?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/12-year-old-make-a-wisher-designs-gamestops-holiday-gift-card/">12-year-old Make-A-Wisher designs GameStop's holiday gift card</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 19:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">If you're anything like us, you've spent countless hours of your youth hollowing out old gaming controllers for use as <em>gigantic</em> Christmas tree ornaments. Though these might have resulted in years of lopsided tree dilemmas, our penchant for hanging something that at least resembles our favorite gaming controllers on the tree never subsided.<br />
<br />
Lucky for us that Ponoko user "<a href="http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/digits/controller-ornaments-3758">digits</a>" shares our unique affectation, making a variety of controller-themed ornaments in a handful of different colors. For $25 (plus $10 domestic shipping, more for other territories) we can have all the style we want without all the weight that drives our tree's limbs plunging downward. We know how boring most holly jolly holiday cards can be, so we were glad to see that a handful of Valve-ified greeting cards are now available for purchase at the game maker's <a href="http://store.valvesoftware.com/">online store</a>. Featuring characters from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead"><em>Left 4 Dead</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a> in compromising holiday situations, there's no doubt that we'll actually - <em>finally</em> - send out greeting cards this year to everyone in our little black book. We're quite partial to the handful of <em>TF2</em>-themed images you see above (just look at The Spy, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/17/it-was-obvious-meet-team-fortress-2s-spy/">back with The Scout's mother</a>!), but we're sure there's something for everyone in your list of Source Engine-loving holiday card receivers. <br />

<div align="left">Ah yes, drama. Even when it's a relatively slow news week, as it was over the holiday week at <a href="http://wowinsider.com">WoW Insider</a>, we can always rely on guild infighting to keep us interested. That and many more great stories from the <em>World of Warcraft</em> can be found in these, our most popular posts from the past seven days. Hope your holidays are happy!</div>

Some of us were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/nintendo-dsi-the-unboxening-and-impressioning/">too impatient to wait</a> for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">Nintendo DSi</a>, forking over good money to import the sexy handheld. But, with 2009 fast approaching, we're going to see a lot of great DSi content hit the market. And, for those of us in North America, we're actually going to see the DSi itself hit the market. We're sure it'll sell truckloads, there's no disputing that. There's also no disputing that 2009 will be the year of the Nintendo DSi. <br /><br />Agree? What are you looking forward to? Can't wait to pick one up?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/ds-daily-the-year-of-the-nintendo-dsi/">DS Daily: The year of the Nintendo DSi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 10:30:00 EST. As we say goodbye to 2008 and welcome a new year, the popular thing to do is make resolutions. We're pretty sure the large majority of folks making resolutions usually give up eventually, but some people follow through with it. Are you making any? Could they be gaming related? Your resolutions, show us them!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/wii-warm-up-resolutions/">Wii Warm Up: Resolutions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 10:30:00 EST. Christmas, Xmas, Consumermas, Christmahanakwanza, Ludachristmas. If you celebrated any of these holidays, or if you had to cower in fear as robot Santa flew overhead looking for easy prey, we want to hear about it. More importantly, we want to know what presents you got, too -- game-related mostly, but if you want to tell us about your other presents, we'll sit here politely and listen. Our gift to you is after the break -- trust us, if you haven't seen <span style="font-style: italic;">Santa Claus Conquers the Martians</span> before, you're really missing out. <br /><br />For a trip down memory lane, check out our Consumermas posts from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/27/so-watcha-get-for-x-day/">2006</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/25/merry-consumermas-what-didja-get/">2007</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/25/happy-consumermas-from-joystiq-so-what-didja-get/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Merry Consumermas ... so what didja get?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/25/happy-consumermas-from-joystiq-so-what-didja-get/">Merry Consumermas ... so what didja get?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Dec 2008 12:20:00 EST. We realize not everyone celebrates Christmas, but a lot of us do. As such, use this post to discuss any and all Christmas gifts you got this year. Did you score a Wii? Get a new DS Lite? Much like the boy you see above, we'll be taking it easy over these next two days, catching up on games we missed and enjoying time away from blogging. Much like the mother and daughter you see above (we assume they're family, anyway), we'll be taking it easy over these next two days, catching up on games we missed and enjoying time away from blogging. Worried that little Jonny and Jenny will regard you as the <a href="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dLuEY6jN6gY"><em>WORST PARENT OF ALL TIME</em></a> come Xmas morning?<br /><br />Then know that there is still hope. A Go Nintendo tipster claims that his local Best Buy is clinging onto its Wiis until December 14. Come Sunday, the store will allegedly offer them out to customers with games bundled on top -- including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/wii-fanboy-review-mario-kart-wii/"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a>, which you should buy anyway, because it's a riot.<br /><br />Sure, it's only a rumor, but a perfectly plausible one: Best Buy did something similarly sneaky <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/is-best-buy-purposely-holding-their-stock/">last year</a>. If you're still in the hunt for a Wii, we'd recommend a Best Buy visit this weekend.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/rumor-best-buy-holding-back-wiis/">Rumor: Best Buy holding back Wiis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 10:55:00 EST. Well now, who could've expected this? Surely not us! We're not being sarcastic <em>at all</em>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/walmart">Walmart</a> promotes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/looking-for-a-wii-try-walmart-com/">a healthy supply of Wii</a> stock and, sure enough, the retail giant has sold a lot of consoles. Tens of thousands by Monday afternoon, in fact.<br /><br />Spokesperson Ravi Jariwala said the company saw a "very strong response to the additional inventory" that Walmart sold online and that they blew through stock ranging in the "tens of thousands" by "early Monday afternoon." What's surprising, though, is that despite selling all of those consoles, they're still in stock on the retailer's site. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then <a href="http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=1029739&amp;povid=cat14503-env172199-module210489-lLink1">hit up this linkage</a>. Or, you know, just bash Walmart in the comments.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Looks like the consoles are out of stock now. Bummer.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21438">Gamasutra</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/surprise-walmart-sold-a-lot-of-wii-consoles-yesterday/">Surprise! Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz knows the public and, according to him, they want <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>. Even though the guitar bundle for the game has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/another-shot-at-cheap-guitar-hero-world-tour/">discounted</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/25/be-a-guitar-hero-for-59-this-black-friday/">like</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/a-cheap-way-to-get-into-multiplayer-guitar-heroics/">crazy</a> over the last week (and selling just as crazy, we assume), he says that most folks are looking for the full band kit, which is difficult to find on store shelves.<br /><br />"Supply of the full band kit version at all retail locations was very tight, with the title selling out quickly," Creutz said, even pointing to online resellers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/resellers-taking-advantage-of-world-tour-shortages/">who continue to resell the full band kit SKU</a> for ridiculous sums of money. "This picture of high demand and tight supply remains consistent with our previous channel checks."<br /><br />If these supplies were higher, Activision would be making a lot more money off the title. As it is, however, the company must mostly rely on sales of the game itself and the other guitar bundle SKU.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/analyst-world-tour-demand-still-high-supplies-still-down/">Analyst: World Tour demand still high, supplies still down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 17:27:00 EST. If you're looking to get something for that Wii gamer this year, there's plenty of deals going down right now as part of Cyber Monday, the online equivalent to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-friday">Black Friday</a>. Remember that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/nintendo-fighting-cancer-with-new-pink-ribbon-lite/">Pink Ribbon DS Lite</a> that Nintendo unveiled a few months back? Well, Amazon is offering that DS Lite model for the reduced price of $99.95, as part of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/30/amazons-2008-cyber-monday-deals/">its Cyber Monday sales event</a>. It's like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-friday">Black Friday</a>, except you can shop without your pants on.<br /><br />What else is up for grabs? Nothing really for the DS lovers out there, but if you are looking to upgrade to a DS Lite or introduce someone else to the wonders of Nintendo's handheld, there are plenty of other deals going on around the net. We suggest you hit up Joystiq's deal guide right <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/holidaze-2008">here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/99-ds-lite-kicks-off-amazons-cyber-monday/">$99 DS Lite kicks off Amazon's Cyber Monday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 14:36:00 EST. We then thought about the gaming gifts we've bestowed upon friends and family in the past. What about you all? Have you given (or plan to give away) any gaming gifts recently? Are most of your friends and families hip to gaming, whether it be Wii or some other form, or do you do your part through charities like <a href="http://www.childsplaycharity.org/">Child's Play</a>? Yesterday, we talked about Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/send-a-tiny-ds-wishlist-in-marios-voice/">very limited way</a> to bother people about gifts you want this holiday season. Well, what we'd like to talk about it is your wish list this year. With the holidays coming up, it's the time for gift-giving (and receiving), so what are you hoping to get this year? Did you ask that certain someone for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">Nintendo DSi</a>? Looking forward to some new games? What's on your wish list?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/25/ds-daily-your-wish-list/">DS Daily: Your wish list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Nov 2008 09:00:00 EST. It's not so hard to believe, really. People have been doing it for many years now, since the Tickle Me Elmo dolls became so popular, really. Folks did it the last two years with the Wii and now, with the news that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-world-tour-band-kit-might-be-hard-to-find-this-holid/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em>'s full band kit bundle could be kind of scarce</a> during the holidays, folks are taking advantage yet again.<br /><br />"In order to assess continued demand for the title, we conducted proprietary channel checks both at major online retailers and at bricks-and-mortar retail locations across the country," said analysts at Cowen and Company, adding: "resellers on Amazon.com are pricing the band kit at close to USD 300, well above the USD 189 list price." Wow, that's quite the significant increase. While not as severe as it is on Amazon, eBay users are also <a href="http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZguitarQ20heroQ20worldQ20tourQ20bandQ20kitQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ">selling the full band kit</a> at higher prices than it should.<br /><br />Remember, holiday shoppers: get out there early and get out there often. If you're trying to track down one of the full band kits for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, then we'd suggest you get on a first name basis with the store managers in your area.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/resellers-taking-advantage-of-world-tour-shortages/">Resellers taking advantage of World Tour shortages</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 12:43:00 EST. <br />Despite the aged look of this week's image, this photograph was actually taken quite recently, as evidenced by the DS Lite. The scene is a familiar one, especially at family get-togethers, when gangs of younger cousins, nephews, and nieces roam the house, desperate in their search for any entertainment. Join us past the post break for the full photo.<br /><br />[<font color="red"><strong>Update:</strong></font> Original image has been removed at the request of copyright owner. Now that it's been out for a while, will the holiday demand be quite so crazy? Particularly with the economy doing, uh, a little poorly, it seems sales might not be quite so robust this year, but stranger things have happened, particularly when it comes to the gaming industry.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/wii-warm-up-holiday-plans/">Wii Warm Up: Holiday plans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 08:00:00 EST. As Kohler points out, that date means GameStop has enough consoles to last <em>beyond</em> Black Friday, a small miracle. That's still not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than the last two years. Alas, the executive called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/wii-fit-measures-my-apartment/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> a "different story"; maybe it's time to check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/cant-find-wii-fit-here-are-some-alternatives/">some alternatives</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/gamestop-wii-supply-should-last-until-early-december/">GameStop: Wii supply should last until early December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 20:10:00 EST. Whether these will be a big success for the company or not, we will have to wait and see (well, you can pretty much guess the second game in that brief list will make them a bunch of cash).<br /><br />They could use some success, though. The company is apparently at a loss for profits, as they're down during Q2 of this year, forcing the company to cut some jobs. Around 500 to 600 across all functions and locations, to be exact, as the company posted a loss of $310 million during Q2.<br /><br />"Considering the slowdown at retail we've seen in October, we are cautious in the short term," said John Riccitiello. "Longer term, we are very bullish on the game sector overall and on EA in particular."<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/03/ea-posts-profits-loss-cuts-jobs/">EA posts profits loss, cuts jobs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 15:28:00 EST. Reggie recently sat down with the LA Times to discuss the Wii and the upcoming holiday shopping season. He says that about 3 in 10 stores will be carrying the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> bundle. For those of you still trying to track down the fitness package, those aren't the best odds.<br /><br />As for production of Wii consoles, Reggie says that Nintendo is churning out 2.4 million units a month. Compared to 1.6 million last year, Nintendo is really trying their best to satisfy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/19/gamestop-vp-says-wii-supply-will-be-much-much-better-this-hol/">the demand consumers have</a> for the console. With the Yen being so high, it drives up the cost of Japanese goods for U.S. retailers. And, seeing as how the U.S. economy has been in such bad shape all year, merchants have discounted their goods to offset that fall to a point where they can't afford to lower prices to attract customers any more.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, one of the items analysts see as being a must-have this season, could be most affected. With the profit margin on it so small (same goes for the Wii console itself), retailers can't afford to cut prices. One positive thing to come out of this, however, is that the Euro has been on a decline, as well. This means that Nintendo should be shipping more to the U.S., whereas in the past, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/pachter-unbalanced-wii-fit-shipments-due-to-weak-dollar/">Nintendo focused on Europe</a> first.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/">Unwrapping Wii Fit</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/#819008"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/wfun-m22001ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The box arrives!" title="The box arrives!" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/#818971"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/wfubgal-m22010ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/#818972"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/wfubgal-m22009ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/#818973"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/wfubgal-m22011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/unwrapping-wii-fit/#819003"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/wfun-m22007ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Batteries" title="Batteries" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/24/strong-yen-could-see-lack-of-wii-bargains-this-holiday-season/">Strong Yen could see lack of Wii bargains this holiday season in U.S.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Oct 2008 15:21:00 EST. You could spot a harried, stressed parent almost everywhere you turned on the high street, their wide, panicked eyes and expressions of fear and uncertainty giving them away in game emporiums up and down the land.<br /><br />But it doesn't have to be the same this year! This year, lil' Timmy <em>will</em> be opening a fresh new Wii come Christmas Day -- as long as you buy early enough. And if not, at least now we have somebody to blame: EEDAR's director of analytical services Jesse Divnich. Writing on Gamasutra, Divnich suggests that falling prices on the Wii's gray market mean that supply and demand are now close to being equal. "Given the trend," reasons the analyst, "it is likely that supply will finally outpace demand before the holiday season."<br /><br />Don't just rest on your laurels, however, for Divnich thinks that demand may outpace supply again during November and December. The best solution? Buy one now and hide it until the time for gift-giving has arrived.<br /><br />Hide it well, though -- or at least, hide it better than this blogger's parents hid <a href="http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/review-virtua.htm"><em>Virtua Racing</em></a> during the Christmas 1994 season. I must have had a solid four weeks with that game before I was required to act surprised on Christmas Day morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/growing-wii-supply-to-guarantee-less-stressful-holiday-season/">Growing Wii supply to guarantee less stressful holiday season</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 19:26:00 EST. We're now heralding in a new year with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/our-new-years-resolutions-ds-edition/">our own</a> unique <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/ds-daily-resolutions/">gaming resolutions</a>. It's quite the time to be alive, if we may say so. And, as we look forward to a new year of gaming with Nintendo's handheld, we wonder how we'll occupy our first weekend with some quality titles. There really isn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/ds-releases-for-the-week-of-december-31st/">anything new</a> for us this week, so we'll be checking our stack for something to play. <br /><br />How about you, fine reader? Welcome to 2008! It's the beginning of a new year and 2007 was arguably the best year for gaming yet, so we're hoping 2008 is even better for you and for us. May it bring you nothing but the best of times and the most fun games you could want. We're getting some great Wii games this year, so we can't wait to see what you all have to say.<br /><br />And, as always, we want to thank you for stopping by our little corner of the internet. We try hard to make sure this is the best place to go for Wii news and fun stuff involving the console and Nintendo. We really love the Nintendo community and thank each and every one of you for your input. You're all great and have helped us grow into a pretty awesome blog over the years. So, here's to 2008 and an even better year for Nintendo's console.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/welcome-to-2008-from-wii-fanboy/">Welcome to 2008 from Wii Fanboy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2008 08:00:00 EST.
