Every company, network, and politician is out to reach all the obsessed YouTubers with their "message," be that "buy my product," "watch my show," or "vote for me." Typically, we don't pay these much mind. Especially those fed to us by game companies. It is somewhat refreshing then, to see Hudson open its making-of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/bomberman-live-rated-game-on-xbla-soon/"><em>Bomberman Live</em></a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjFaMFJKSbs">video</a> by admitting that <em><a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/bombermanactzero?q=bomberman%20act%20zero">Bomberman Act: Zero</a> </em>was a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/hudson-defends-crappy-bomberman/">piece of garbage</a>. Yes, that goes a <em>long</em> way towards restoring our faith in the franchise, for truly it was a festering pile. It's heartening to know that Hudson began with "let's <em>not</em> make another <em>Act: Zero</em>" as a base for their upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> offering.<br /><br />It's okay, Hudson. We all make mistakes. As long as <em>Bomberman Live </em>delivers, all is forgiven.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://forums.selectbutton.net/viewtopic.php?t=6152">selectbutton</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/hudson-admits-bomberman-act-zero-was-crap/">Hudson admits Bomberman Act: Zero was crap</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jul 2007 16:15:00 EST. Published by Hudson and developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BackboneEntertainment/">Backbone Entertainment</a>, <em>Bomberman Live</em> looks to properly bring classic <em>Bomberman</em> action into the online arena, and <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3160183">1UP</a> recently got an extended look at the game.. Sure, many attempts have been made -- even <em>Saturn Bomberman</em> had online play -- but Xbox Live gives <em>Bomberman Live</em> an edge unknown to previous online entries. <em>Bomberman Live</em> allows for up to 8 players online or 4 players locally. The game also allows multiple players on one 'box to venture online (here's hoping the game allows non-Live subscribers as guests). In addition to the traditional deathmatch mode, <em>Bomberman Live</em> also includes other modes, such as the Paint Bomb mode featured in recent titles. The game also features Vision camera support, which will snap a shot of each player the moment they are defeated and also give the round winner a few moments to gloat on camera. Finally, there are loads of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/bomberman-live-achievements-are-um-live/">costume pieces</a> that players can use to customize their, um, Bombermen (Bomberfolk, Bomberpeople?). Costume pieces are unlocked by collecting Costume Balls during gameplay.<br /><br />All in all, it sounds like <em>Bomberman Live</em> is everything that old school fans could hope for. Here's hoping the game lives up to its legacy (or, at the very least, better than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/hudson-defends-crappy-bomberman/"><em>Bomberman Act: Zero</em></a>). So, how much would you be willing to pay for "real" <em>Bomberman</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/1up-takes-a-gander-at-bomberman-live/">1UP takes a gander at Bomberman Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 15:00:00 EST. While the game contains plenty of achievements of the "win X number of games" variety, it also has a few that are a little ... eclectic. We're not sure which one we like better, "The Good, The Bad, and The Bombed" or "Girl Power!" The first requires you to outfit your character with all the cowboy accessories and frag an opponent that is wearing the same. The latter asks players to don the girl outfit and win a "girl only" match on Xbox Live. Of all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/poking-around-with-virtually-jenna-jameson/">games</a> that could promote girl-on-girl action, <em>Bomberman</em> was the last one on our minds.<br /><br />Hit the "read" link for the full list of achievements.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.gamestooge.com">Jonah Falcon</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/bomberman-live-achievements-are-um-live/">Bomberman Live achievements are, um, live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2007 14:30:00 EST. Ah yes, remember <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/rengokuthetowerofpurgatory?q=rengoku"><em>Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory</em></a>? Doesn't register a blip? How about its sequel, <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/rengoku2?q=rengoku"><em>Rengoku 2: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N.</em></a>? If neither game registers anything resembling warm or fuzzy, the metareview scores say you are not alone. It would seem that after two lackluster efforts on the PSP system, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/kororinpa-rolls-onto-japanese-phones/">Hudson Entertainment</a> has decided to stake its claim on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/uk-cell-phone-owners-spend-more-on-games-than-ringtones/">mobile phone</a> market with yet another of their franchise titles. This <em>Rengoku </em>go-round has the cybernetic hero GRAM, "searching for the truth behind his existence." John Greiner, CEO of Hudson Entertainment believes its new home on the mobile platform is "a perfect fit" since it "features a healthy dose of action and adventure that cell phone gamers are sure to relish." Good riddance to bad rubbish, we say.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/rengoku-moves-from-psp-to-mobile-phones/">Rengoku moves from PSP to mobile phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 00:00:00 EST. While the announcement was rather expected, considering both the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/12/bomberman-live-coming-to-xbla-this-summer/">rating</a> and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/12/bomberman-live-coming-to-xbla-this-summer/">video</a> have already been leaked, it's nice to hear it from the horse's mouth. Hudson did reveal a few new bits of information. The game will support 8-player multiplayer via Xbox Live. Also (thank the heavens) the game will support 4-player local multiplayer (which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/hudson-defends-crappy-bomberman/">not supported <em>at all</em></a> by <em>Bomberman Act: Zero</em>). Finally, characters in <em>Bomberman Live</em> will be fully customizable. That's nice and all, but we'll be sticking with black Bomberman, thank you very much. We always <em>totally</em> have dibs on black Bomberman.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/16/bomberman-live-now-100-official/">Bomberman Live 100% official, local multiplayer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2007 14:30:00 EST. This is an easy choice for the DS -- that's why there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sudoku">so much</a> of it -- but we're uncertain about the potential fun of Wii-based sudoku. Maybe as part of something else, but as its own game ... we'll see. Not sure how it'll be played out? Never fear, developer Hudson Soft prepared a <a href="http://www.hudson.co.jp/wii/sudoku/howto/howto.html">movie</a> that should serve to answer all those questions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/sudoku-for-the-wii/">Sudoku ... for the Wii?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2007 18:13:00 EST. This amazing power lent itself to videogames, naturally.<br /><br />After making a few TV appearances, and becoming a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=hudson">Hudson</a> mascot of sorts (along with that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hudson_logo.gif">adorable bee</a>), he lent his appearance to videogames, too. Specifically, the <em>Adventure Island</em> games, which were called <em>Takahashi Meijin no Boukenjima</em> ("Takahashi Meijin's Adventure Island") in Japan. When you play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/19/vc-monday-madness-post-game-wrap-up/"><em>New Adventure Island</em></a> on the Virtual Console-- which you should do, as soon as possible-- you're playing as a grass-skirted Takahashi Meijin.<br /><br />Hudson's US branch has posted an interview with this legendary figure, which is not only interesting for the novelty of being an interview with a videogame character, but because he really knows his stuff about Hudson and their history. <br /><br />We can't wait until they post an interview with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Zonk">Air Zonk</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/hudson-interviews-the-real-life-master-higgins/">Hudson interviews the real-life Master Higgins</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 11:55:00 EST. They came away less than impressed, giving it an overall score of 6.6. But we have to ask, why? We have yet to get our hands on the game, but after looking at why they gave it such a horrible score it doesn't look justifiable. 6.5 in the gameplay category because they felt that "e<em>ighty percent of the included games are fun. The other twenty percent are just plain difficult to play and uninteresting</em>" ... that equates to an 8.0 in our ratings book. We're thinking that if you liked the original <em>Fuzion Frenzy</em> then the sequel will more than satisfy your party game hunger. Make the jump for the review, but we're holding off our judgments until we get some hands on time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/30/fuzion-frenzy-2-gets-reviewed-and-spit-on/">Fuzion Frenzy 2 gets reviewed and spit on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Jan 2007 19:00:00 EST. The game promises to whisk players off to exotic locations. This week's exotic locations are a planet called Blazer (wonder what the weather is like) and, um, Earth. Okay, Earth isn't exactly exotic, but nobody plays <em>Fuzion Frenzy</em> for the backdrops. At least no one that we know. And we know, like, everybody. No, you play it for the minigames. Today we bring you shots of 7 new games and descriptions of each. The game pictured above is "Amoeba Hunting" on Earth. Players must destroy amoeba with bombs while being careful not to get caught in the explosions themselves. Read on for more shots with descriptions and (hilarious) captions.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/fuzion-frenzy-2-new-maps-games-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fuzion Frenzy 2, new maps, games revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/fuzion-frenzy-2-new-maps-games-revealed/">Fuzion Frenzy 2, new maps, games revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Oct 2006 17:00:00 EST. First, take a beloved franchise and then change everything about it that made it aesthetically unique and iconic. Second, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/17/this-aint-your-grandpappys-bomberman/">announce</a> this new, eXtreMe version of the game, knowing that existing fans will pick it up anyway. Finally, before it's actually released and everybody learns how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/30/bomberman-act-zero-bombs/">awful</a> it is, put a bunch of <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/08/10/Pictures-and-Themes-Bomberman-Act-Zero.aspx">Gamer pictures and a theme</a> on Xbox Live Marketplace to make a quick buck off of nostalgia. Repeat.<br /><br />Thanks, Hudson, really. Now, please, get back to work on <em>Fusion Frenzy 2</em>, and -- for the love of all that is holy -- put <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/30/classic-bomberman-coming-to-xbla/"><em>Saturn Bomberman</em></a> on Xbox Live Arcade.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/11/bomberman-bombs-xblm/">Bomberman bombs XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Aug 2006 10:30:00 EST. The latest issue of
Japanese gaming-mag <em>Famitsu</em> reveals the iconic character is being updated with something straight out of a
13-year-old's sketchbook.<br /><br />It's unclear what format this game will take; whether it will be an Xbox Live
Arcade title, or a retail release. Either way, fans will be pleased to learn, the gameplay looks very similar to the
<em>Bomberman</em> you know and love. Unfortunately, it may never make it out of Japan. An XBLA version of classic
<em>Bomberman</em> would be a guaranteed hit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/17/this-aint-your-grandpappys-bomberman/">This ain't your grandpappy's Bomberman</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Feb 2006 22:30:00 EST.
