Once again, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brentalfloss">Brentalfloss</a> is here to hijack your nostalgia, injecting lyrics into the memorable tunes of Capcom's 8-bit classic, <em>DuckTales</em>. No, it's not the Moon (that one's <a href="http://youtu.be/fHEgzRtKC5o">already been done</a>). Instead, we join Scrooge on his fateful trip ... <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=e0EaygJdxyc#!">to the Amazon</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/11/capcoms-ducktales-now-with-lyrics/">Capcom's DuckTales, now with lyrics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 11 Dec 2011 20:30:00 EST. It's a conundrum that much of the world is facing this week: With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mortal-kombat-2011"><em>Mortal Kombat</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/portal-2"><em>Portal 2 </em></a>now available, which one do you buy? Fortunately, The Game Station has solved that problem by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyOzzd53ssY">combining the two into <em>Portal Kombat</em></a>, featuring some gruesome fatalities using Portal technology.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/portal-kombat-proves-the-cake-is-a-liu-kang/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portal Kombat proves the cake is a Liu Kang</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/portal-kombat-proves-the-cake-is-a-liu-kang/">Portal Kombat proves the cake is a Liu Kang</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Apr 2011 21:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/the-brothers-mario-machinima-brings-the-mushroom-kingdom-to-li/">Machinima stars The Brothers Mario</a> are back, and they've <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw7CKnfk4JY">brought a new character</a> with them: "Don Keykong," a mob boss who's bananas for vengeance. Along with all of the other cameos, there's even <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hsH39ekozE">a music video for the gangsta anthem</a> featured in the trailer. Sheesh. First the Xperia Play is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/26/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-playstation-phone-manhandled-again/">obtained by the press</a> even before its official announcement, and now the first units to reach the North American public, given away to developers <a href="http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/developerworld/2011/03/04/sony-ericsson-gdc-re-play-march-3/">at a GDC panel and raffles</a> last week, are ... wait for it ... being <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-Play-Phone-Unlocked-Not-presale-/220749449991?pt=Video_Games&amp;hash=item3365b14b07#ht_1903wt_1373">sold on eBay</a>.<br />
<br />
That's right -- even weeks before the actual launch, you can't give these things away for free. eBay seller "mejones73-1" doesn't hide the fact that he's one of the developers who won a free phone (and <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=140521578895#ht_685wt_1373">neither does this guy</a>), though the Sony writeup says that a winner named "Mike Jones" just happens to work across the street from their office in Redwood City, CA. Jones might want to be careful in the parking lot this week -- even if he plans to buy another phone with the $730 and rising that his auction is earning, Sony can't be too happy about this one.<br />
<br />

It didn't take long for the video game community to speak out about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/ubisofts-we-dare-to-ruin-parties-for-ps3-wii-owners/">the plainly ridiculous <em>We Dare </em>trailer released today</a>, and the venom it's inspired has gotten creative. <a href="http://chicknstu.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/we-dare-but-are-they-really-that-daring/">Developers Stew Hogarth and @hypnic__jerk</a> have assembled <a href="http://www.everybodydancenow.net/deware/WeDareRemake.swf">this Flash demake</a> of the title, and while it doesn't actually require a Wii to play, it offers pretty much the same quantity and quality of amusement we expect from the game.<br />
<br />
And then there's the trailers after the break, both recut versions of Ubisoft's video with some more ... <em>inspired</em> video game trailer soundtrack choices. These are a must if you like laughing, go check them out. We dar ... aww, forget it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/we-dare-trailer-mocked-with-flash-demake-soundtrack-recuts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>We Dare trailer mocked with Flash demake, soundtrack recuts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/we-dare-trailer-mocked-with-flash-demake-soundtrack-recuts/">We Dare trailer mocked with Flash demake, soundtrack recuts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Feb 2011 21:30:00 EST. Oh hi there. The person hosting the video after the break is Gary Bigham, professional <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_action_role-playing_game">Live Action Role Player</a>. He says that he's "cashing in" by creating a <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft</em></a> LARPing video, but you'll be the one cashing in -- fistfuls and fistfuls of the currency known as laughter.<br />
<br />
How do you roleplay as a <em>Minecraft</em> character, you may ask? It's harder than it sounds -- you have to try to build a shelter in the woods, use a duct-taped stone pickaxe to find precious gems and, whatever you do, always watch your back for those jerk creepers. Honestly, we're surprised Gary finishes the game as well as he does. Guess that's why he's a pro.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/live-action-role-playing-in-the-world-of-minecraft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live action role-playing in the world of Minecraft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/live-action-role-playing-in-the-world-of-minecraft/">Live action role-playing in the world of Minecraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Nov 2010 02:00:00 EST. Blizzard surprised attendees of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blizzcon-2010">BlizzCon 2010</a> closing ceremonies with the <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/10/23/blizzcon-2010-closing-ceremonies/">(totally fake) announcement</a> of a trio of new projects -- which, considering the fullness of the developer's dance card, was a pretty solid hint that all present parties were about to be viciously punk'd. If that didn't do the trick, the identities of the games certainly did: Teasing that the reveal of the company's unannounced MMO was just moments away, Blizzard's Paul Sams pulled back the curtain on <em>World of Jersey Shorecraft</em>, <em>Gleeablo</em> and <em>Booty Baywatch</em>.<br />
<br />
These announcements were followed by waves of laughter from the patient crowd, which were followed by waves of "great joke but what's that new game," which were then followed by waves of "no, seriously guys, we're not playing around, what's the MMO called," which were followed by waves of sadness. Then Tenacious D played! He also specified that the "second half of 2012" will see the release of the commercial game.<br />
<br />
Thanks to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/report-bethesda-nukes-lawsuit-against-interplay-over-fallout-mm/">ongoing</a> legal troubles with Bethesda, responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fallout-3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fallout-new-vegas"><em>New Vegas</em></a>, Interplay is in the unique position of trying to promote its game without being able to show it -- because, according to Caen, "anything we show will help Bethesda in their fight." Of course, Interplay staffers are free to go to the store and pick up the current <em>Fallout</em> releases for themselves, which they are doing.<br />
<br />
"What I can say is that of course we're playing what Bethesda is doing," Caen said. "We appreciate some portions of it, and we're not necessarily fans of everything. I think they miss a lot of the humor, and the fans seem to agree with that." To that end, the <em>Fallout</em> MMO is intended to be "extremely funny."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/22/interplay-fallout-online-in-second-half-of-2012/">Interplay: Fallout Online in second half of 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Oct 2010 13:20:00 EST. You're getting a <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a>! And you're getting a Kinect! And you, and you and you're getting a Kinect! Oprah did today what only <em>Bejeweled</em> and <em>FarmVille</em> have been able to do so far: Get a bunch of middle-aged women ecstatically excited about video games. The television guru indeed gave an Xbox 360 system and a Kinect sensor away to every member of her studio audience this afternoon, and while you might expect a group of gamers to be a little thrilled about that, this crowd went <em>freakin' nuts</em>.<br />
<br />
The show was about "The Next Big Thing," and featured an appearance by reality show crooner Susan Boyle, as well as a segment on The Daily Show's upcoming <a href="http://www.rallytorestoresanity.com/">"Rally to Restore Sanity"</a> anti-movement. But whatever the reason Oprah decided to go all Microsoft motion controller on her audience, it appears to have worked -- they loved it. Maybe this means they don't have to buy Christmas presents for the kids this year? Watch the whole surreal video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/19/watch-oprah-give-kinect-to-her-entire-audience-and-the-hyste/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Oprah give Kinect to her entire audience ... and the hysteria that ensues</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/19/watch-oprah-give-kinect-to-her-entire-audience-and-the-hyste/">Watch Oprah give Kinect to her entire audience ... and the hysteria that ensues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 19:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Some wily vandal in Portland, Oregon has painted <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart"><em>Mario Kart</em></a> symbols into the pavement there on one of the city's bike lanes. You can <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y36624rrjU&amp;feature=player_embedded">see them in action in this video</a> (also embedded after the break). Unfortunately, the bananas, star and speed arrows don't actually confer the same powers they do in the game, but we did smirk to see that all of the bikers do faithfully avoid the banana peel, and hit the rest of the symbols head on.<br />
<br />
You can even wring some unintentional hilarity from the dry-as-a-Dry Bones explanation of what each powerup does by the KATU anchor. That's right, <a href="http://www.katu.com/about/people/anchors/3517361.html">Carl Click</a>! <div style="text-align: left;">On first blush, the workplace behind the scenes of the "increasingly frustrating action" game <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/duck-hunt"><em>Duck Hunt</em></a> doesn't seem so bad -- the boss is smart and organized, the space is very modern and clear of cubicle clutter, and all the worker ducks get free drugs and junk food! We have to <em>pay</em> for our meatball subs and cocaine here at Joystiq.<br />
<br />
But then you start to realize, thanks to this hard-hitting expose from the folks at College Humor, that the pressure can get to you after a while, especially when the players you're meant to be entertaining start bending the rules. Watch the full short (which is NSFW thanks to language) after the break.<br />

For $19, you'll get six new episodes of the show (the first in nearly four years), behind-the-scenes docs on each episode and a bevy of other special features.<br />
<br />
Among those special features is not, as far as we know, the episode of the Joystiq Podcast guest hosted by Mega64's Rocco Botte, an embarrassing oversight for both parties. But feel free to put the DVD in your computer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/joystiq-podcast-035-mega-edition/">download the episode</a> and pretend it is so.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/29/mega64-version-3-dvd-now-available/">Mega64: Version 3 DVD now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 May 2010 01:30:00 EST. In the <a href="http://roosterteeth.com/archive/episode.php?id=1199">pilot episode of a new web series</a> titled "Immersion," the comedic machinimists of Rooster Teeth attempted to bring a popular action game phenomenon into the real world: What if you could <em>really</em> drive a car from a third-person perspective? Using a pole, some dumbbells, an expensive camera and some vision-impairing black sheets, the troupe was able to have an entertaining, albeit entirely irresponsible out-of-car driving experience. Check out the NSFW video after the jump to see their automotive shenanigans in action.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/rooster-teeth-experiments-with-third-person-driving-in-real-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rooster Teeth experiments with third-person driving in real life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/rooster-teeth-experiments-with-third-person-driving-in-real-life/">Rooster Teeth experiments with third-person driving in real life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 00:00:00 EST. Most of us only know Aperture Science for that, erm, <em>unfortunate happening</em> with the "deadly" neurotoxins (most of the details of which are still suppressed by court order, but of course that "deadly" was surrounded by <em>massive</em> sarcasm quotes -- you could take a bath in the stuff). But did you know that its great facility has tested many products long before the rumored ongoing "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal"><em>Portal</em></a>" initiative? Since the early '50s, Aperture Science has been working hard on some pretty impressive shower curtain technology, perfecting something called the "Heimlich Counter-Maneuver" (designed to interrupt <a href="http://www.ehow.com/how_14949_heimlich-maneuver.html">the commonly known first-aid action</a>) and setting up the Take-a-Wish Foundation, a charity to "redistribute wishes" from terminally ill children. After all, how many do they really need, anyway?<br />
<br />
All that and more can be found in <a href="http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/03/24/Aperture-Science_3A00_-A-History.aspx">this informative history of the company</a> founded by Cave Johnson, posted over on the Game Informer site. Of course, we haven't heard much about the latest Aperture project since all of the chaos at the Black Mesa Research Facility and the arrival of the Vortigaunts and the Combine in our world, but we presume that, even with the Aperture Science lab in lockdown since 1998, the GLaDOS AI is carrying on tests as usual. Because, as we're sure she'd agree, there's still science to do.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/25/the-long-and-storied-history-of-aperture-science/">The long and storied history of Aperture Science</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Mar 2010 01:55:00 EST. We have to give it to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/college-humor">College Humor</a>, they know how to hold up a satirical mirror to video game conventions and culture. Whether to show the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/the-sims-transformed-into-a-horror-movie/">horror</a> inflicted upon <em>The Sims</em> or the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/meet-the-l33t-parents-and-bow-before-them/">pervasive nature</a> of l33t speak. <br />
<br />
What's interesting about College Humor's latest video, "The Video Game Bosses' Lament," is that the site created a retort for the problems management had with the help two years ago. In "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/collegehumor-reveals-bowser-minion-coup-detat/#continued">Bowser's Minions</a>," from mid-2008, it's the hired help who have the last laugh. Anyway, if you want to hear management's issues, check it out after the break. But we side with the lackeys on this one.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/college-humor-reveals-the-video-game-bosses-lament/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>College Humor reveals the 'Video Game Bosses' Lament'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/college-humor-reveals-the-video-game-bosses-lament/">College Humor reveals the 'Video Game Bosses' Lament'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Mar 2010 01:01:00 EST. We've all seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-bros"><em>Super Mario Bros.</em></a> parodies before -- some that even make Mario a pretty <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/to-catch-a-mario/">sick and deranged</a> dude. Been there, done that. But, what makes this <a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1925708">College Humor</a> video so special -- aside from its unusually grody depiction of the brothers Mario -- is its surprise ending. We won't spoil it for you, so you'll have to <a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1925708">click on over</a> if you want to check it out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/30/college-humor-writes-a-complaint-to-mario-bros-plumbing/">College Humor writes a complaint to Mario Bros. Perhaps, in the past, during a rousing round of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/tetris"><em>Tetris</em></a>, you may have found yourself in an existential funk. "Where does the next block come from?" you mused. Sure, it's easy enough to pin your extraordinary luck (or misfortune) on the wonders of random generation, but what if it wasn't so simple? What if the <em>real</em> source of your bliss and/or frustration was more ... divine?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1924722">College Humor</a> introduces us to Tetrises, the God of Tetris. Witness his terrible glory after the break. Just remember that the next time you pray for a line piece, you actually have someone to address. And, if you're looking for some extra luck, you might consider slaughtering a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/boogie-bunnies">lesser puzzle game</a> to appease him.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/08/where-does-the-next-tetris-block-really-comes-from/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Where does the next Tetris block really come from?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/08/where-does-the-next-tetris-block-really-comes-from/">Where does the next Tetris block really come from?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Dec 2009 14:00:00 EST. Listen, we're all for games that take advantage of the Wii's unique properties, but we're afraid that <em>Wii Breakfast</em> has gone too far. As you can see in Idiots Of Ants' leaked gameplay footage after the jump, the developer has really gone peripheral crazy for its new release, which simulates everything from making toast to newspaper reading. Do we really need <em>two</em> Wii Sausages, guys? Really?<br /><br />That said, the real-time generated Wii Butter looks positively delicious.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=74252">GoNintendo</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/02/wii-breakfast-has-gone-too-far/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Breakfast has gone too far</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/02/wii-breakfast-has-gone-too-far/">Wii Breakfast has gone too far</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Mar 2009 17:00:00 EST. <br />This brought us some welcome weekend <em>lulz</em>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> recently held a launch event to mark this month's release of the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PlayStation 3</a> in Malaysia, and obviously decided it needed just the right soundtrack to tie in with the event: something <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda">epic, memorable, and majestic</a>.<br /><br />Their final choice was all of these things, but also <em>hugely inappropriate</em>: as Sony Malaysia MD Naoi Sudo ascended the stairs to the stage, the famous <em>Legend of Zelda</em> theme began to pour from the speakers, and YouTube user marauderz was there to capture the glorious event first-hand. Talk about dealing your own company massive damage, eh?<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335885">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/21/doh-sony-uses-zelda-theme-at-ps3-launch/">D'oh!: Sony uses Zelda theme at PS3 launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Sep 2008 17:00:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario">Mario</a>: lovable mascot of the world's greatest videogame company, or <span style="font-style: italic;">dangerous child sex predator</span>? We thought we knew the Italian plumber well enough, but apparently not.<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration: line-through;">NBC Dateline's Chris</span> Ted Hansen, brother of Chris Hansen, has caught Mario red-handed, entering a young victim's house in this delicious spoof of popular show <span style="font-style: italic;">To Catch A Predator</span>. Like every predator that walks into the <span style="font-style: italic;">real</span> Hansen's web, Mario immediately begins stuttering far-fetched excuses, though "I'm-a here to fix tha' pipes" is a new one on us, you <span style="font-style: italic;">beast</span>. First <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/six-year-olds-and-their-slightly-twisted-view-of-mario/">incest</a>, and now <span style="font-style: italic;">this</span>?! Needless to say, the <span style="font-style: italic;">sicko</span> is soon 'cuffed up by the cops.<br /><br />Incidentally, if none of this is making any sense to you, there's a video of the real show past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/to-catch-a-mario/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>To Catch A Mario</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/to-catch-a-mario/">To Catch A Mario</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 22:00:00 EST. Would you rob a bank? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/02/southpark-and-the-wii/">Freeze yourself</a>? <em>Kidnap</em> yourself?<br /><br />That's what one "Mr. Yang" of Shangqiu, China has attempted, after his parents refused to buy him a Wii. At least, we <em>think</em> it was a Wii -- the original <em>China Daily</em> article endearingly describes how the man was desperate for a "Nintendo computer."<br /><br />Whatever Yang was after, he went to some lengths to achieve it, colluding with two other men who acted as his kidnappers and demanded a $1,400 ransom to bring the false abduction to an end. Police apparently caught the two "kidnappers" while they were withdrawing the sum from an ATM. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/wii-fanboy-interviews-high-voltage-on-the-conduit/"><em>The Conduit</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-the-conduit-for-your-inner-graphics-whore/"><em>The Conduit</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-the-conduit-will-use-wiispeak/"><em>The Conduit</em></a> -- that's all we media types bang on about when it comes to High Voltage. But the Illinois-based studio also has a WiiWare game in the pipeline: the scarcely covered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/animals-de-la-muerte-set-for-wiiware/"><em>Animales de la Muerte</em></a>, a bloodthirsty shooter set in a Mexican zoo that has been overrun by zombie animals. Let's say that again, shall we: <em>a Mexican zoo that has been overrun by zombie animals</em>. It looks a bit like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/samba-de-cameo/"><em>Samba de Amigo</em></a> crossed with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/animales-de-la-muerte/936737/full/">gore</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/wii-fanboy-eyes-on-madworld/"><em>MadWorld</em></a>, and if that's not potential GOTY material, we have no idea what is.<br /><br />And it gets better. High Voltage's Micah Skaritka just confirmed to WiiWare World that <em>Animales</em> would feature Classic Controller support, allowing players to move with the left analog stick and fire with the right, a configuration that Skaritka compares to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AapB7dW3HA"><em>Smash TV</em></a> (but which also reminded us of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-_qlaywKBs"><em>Geometry Wars</em></a> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotron:_2084"><em>Robotron: 2084</em></a>). Meanwhile, actions that would usually require a shake of the Wiimote (Whip, Throw, Rescue, and Activate) have been mapped to buttons. A welcome addition!<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=49894">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/classic-control-scheme-for-high-voltages-other-game/">Classic control scheme for High Voltage's other game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 21:00:00 EST. We've seen a veritable gaggle of promotional material for the controversial title as of late, including <a href="http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=151824">two recent trailers which clown on some other popular shooters</a>. The first of which, seen above, parodies the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/27/mad-world-gears-ad-propels-song-to-1-on-itunes/">unforgettable <em>Gears of War</em> trailer</a>, and features an unnamed infantryman butchering Gary Jules' cover of the Tears for Fears classic downer "Mad World". It generally doesn't take much more than a "zombie" descriptor to pique our interest in a game, but High Voltage Software (the folks behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/introducing-a-mature-fps-in-high-voltages-the-conduit/"><em>The Conduit</em></a>) went even further than that for <span style="font-style: italic;">Animales de la Muerte</span>. Not only are they making a WiiWare game about the undead, which they aim to release in September, but even better (or at least, different) -- it's about zombie animals in a Mexican zoo.<br /><br />High Voltage summed up the premise of this cartoonishly zany game more cleverly than we could by saying, "Now, wandering freely through the zoo, the rotting beasts are no longer content with eating visitor scraps they get tossed into their cages -- instead they prefer to eat the whole visitor."<br /><br />Not only do you have to kill the zombified animals, but you also have to save the poor creatures that have not yet succumbed to the outbreak. Funnily enough, the undead animals drop pesos when you kill them, which can be used to upgrade your weapons. As for the controls, the game is essentially a point-and-shoot action title, putting the Wiimote to good use. There's also a co-op mode where you can play with up to four people, if you're not shut-ins like us.<br /><br />We posted some goodies after the break, including a hilarious trailer, so make sure to take a look.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/animals-de-la-muerte-set-for-wiiware/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Animales de la Muerte set for WiiWare</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/animals-de-la-muerte-set-for-wiiware/">Animales de la Muerte set for WiiWare</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST. <br />No, not the princess's actual weapons, but the weapons from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda">the <em>Zelda </em>games</a>. For us, the most badass thing that ever was made has to be the Titan's Mitt. That thing could help Link pick up the most heaviest of heavy items. We'll also entertain notions that the Hook Shot, Pegasus Shoes and Magic Cape are up high on the list.<br /><br />But, what about the items that aren't specific to any entry in the series, like the boomerang? Well, Lore from Wired attempts to rank these items, providing grade marks to all of Link's most-used weapons and otherwise general helper-outers. Is the man insane? Well, we'll leave that judgment up to you and get back to what we enjoy most: daydreaming that we have a Titan's Mitt of our own.<br /><br />You, on the other hand, can rank your top 5 favorite <em>Zelda </em>items in the comments. No daydreaming for you all, there's work to be done!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/how-would-you-rank-the-weapons-of-zelda/">How would you rank the weapons of Zelda?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Mar 2008 22:35:00 EST. What could possibly be blurred out of a seemingly innocent screenshot? Nothing controversial, if you're reading it in the right language. Pictured is the Danish version of <em>LEGO Racers</em>, <a href="http://www.insertcredit.com/archives/002251.html">as seen on Insert Credit</a>. A certain, misogynistic word appears when players successfully complete a race. Bizarre Danish sense of humor? Or perhaps the work of a vengeful coder?<br /><br />As it turns out, neither. The word, coincidentally, means "finish" or "end" in Danish, making the above image perfectly acceptable in its intended tongue, but humorously inappropriate for English speakers. Check out the uncensored, vaguely NSFW image after the break, and enjoy the giggles at the expense of a foreign language.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/danish-lego-racer-lost-in-translation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Danish Lego Racer lost in translation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/danish-lego-racer-lost-in-translation/">Danish Lego Racer lost in translation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2008 01:00:00 EST. <br />Oh, how we adore you, <em>Professor Layton and the Curious Village</em>. Not only are you one of the most <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/metareview-professor-layton-and-the-curious-village/">distinguished</a></em> DS games of the year so far, but you're also proving a rich source of inspiration for webcomic artists everywhere.<br /><br />Penny Arcade's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/penny-arcade-and-the-hilarious-comic/">take</a> on the Professor's adventure set our ROFLcopter in motion the other day, and our giggling continued after seeing <a href="http://www.2pstart.com">2P Start</a>'s answer to <em>the biggest puzzle of all</em>. <em>Ghost Squad</em>, as we've already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/ghost-squad-stands-out-from-the-crowd/">seen</a>, is not afraid of being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/dolphintastic-video-of-ghost-squad/">different</a>. It's also not afraid of standing up for itself and picking on bigger games, when the need arises; games such as the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/">PlayStation 3</a>'s <em>Resistance: Fall of Man</em>. The print advert above, for example, has been seen in various German magazines in recent weeks. And if we were being completely honest, we'd <em>totally</em> buy <em>Resistance: Fall of Mandy</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=33308">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/ghost-squad-advert-has-ps3-shooter-in-its-sights/">Ghost Squad advert has PS3 shooter in its sights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 19:00:00 EST. Interested in <em>The Simpsons</em> game, but lack the drive to actually play it? No problem. Thanks to YouTuber TheCockCrew, you can experience pretty much the entire thing, including all of the cutscenes. It's truly a wonderful world we live in. <br /><br />We've included the first of the batch above, but there are others -- several others -- and each are pretty long. It also goes without saying that they contain <strong><em>spoilers</em></strong>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2008/01/gamesetlinks_teaching_singapore_the_simpsons.php">GameSetWatch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/friday-video-no-need-to-play/">Friday Video: No need to play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jan 2008 22:00:00 EST. The webisode series <em>Street Fighter: The Later Years</em> has been going on for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/05/street-fighters-mop-and-drive-taxis-in-the-later-years/">quite some time</a>, but the <a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1790841">latest entry</a> proves that the show's creators still have a knack for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/streetfighter"><em>Street Fighter</em></a> parody.<br /><br />Whether it's Dhalsim's unorthodox fighting methods, a poorly-aged Ken failing to perform his hidden fireball move, or Chun Li and Blanka caught in a... compromising position, <a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/tag:street-fighter-the-later-years"><em>The Later Years</em></a> still makes us laugh, even if we'll all be geezers by the time the series reaches its eventual conclusion.<br /><br />Check out episode six after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/27/todays-most-geriatric-video-yoga-noogie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most geriatric video: 'Yoga noogie!'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/27/todays-most-geriatric-video-yoga-noogie/">Today's most geriatric video: 'Yoga noogie!'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Nov 2007 01:01:00 EST. Nobody's bothering him. Nobody's even <em>touching</em> him. Yet for some reason the "hero" of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> just thinks he can <a href="http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/16305">push other people around</a>. <br /><br />Luckily for Altair, it's always funny to watch people get physically harassed for no reason. The saddest part of the satire image above (via <a href="http://www.theonion.com/content/magazine/do_todays_youth_have_what_it">The Onion</a>) is that they actually manage to match the correct controller with the right game. That's more than we can say about many of the non-satirical articles.
