Hyrule Warriors shipped a million units worldwide since it launched last fall, which equates to many, many millions of enemies taken out in the army-mashing crossover. Famitsu reported the milestone today, which we've confirmed with a Koei Tecmo Europe representative.

Koei Tecmo is celebrating like cray by publishing a set of new wallpapers based on the Wii U brawler, and they're not bad desktop bling, it has to be said. Also, there's still plenty of steam in the game's DLC train; Majora's Mask content is due to arrive next week.

And yes, the DLC features Tingle. Like absolutely everything should.
Hyrule Warriors will receive a new piece of downloadable content themed after The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask on February 5, Nintendo revealed during its Nintendo Direct livestream this morning.

The DLC will include Tingle and the game's youthful Link as playable characters, the former giving his enemies a kiss of death and whipping them with bags of rupees. The pack will also include three as-yet-unknown character skins.

Update: Nintendo says the DLC will cost $7.99 and will also feature a new Adventure Mode map.

Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved

I love listening to music alone. When no one's looking, I'm free to tap out drum beats, put on emotional lip-synchs and flail in synch with a song's swelling heights. Playing Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved is a lot like those solo jam sessions in the way it grants a free pass to completely lose myself in a song's components. Sure, I look ridiculous, but I have to! Matching notes with halfhearted swipes and restrained punches just leads to broken combos, as if the Kinect is the all-knowing gaze of an instructor ready to belittle a cold, tired performance.

Substituting instruments and creating remixes adds a welcome element of experimentation to Fantasia, but it's the core focus of moving with music that brings me back each week. It's increasingly difficult to ignore life's noise while playing a game as I grow older, but Fantasia's peak moments tune out every distraction, leaving me with an uninhibited excuse to enjoy twisted, endearing remixes of songs that I love.
Continue reading Best of the Rest: Thomas' picks of 2014

Best of the Rest: Thomas' picks of 2014 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 06 Jan 2015 15:00:00 EST. If you missed out on pre-ordering Hyrule Warriors to snag retailer-exclusive costumes inspired by Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time (or wanted more than one set of said costumes), there's good news waiting for you in the eShop, as four costume packs are now available for $0.99 each. Note: While the full game can be purchased via Nintendo's website, the DLC waits in the wings of the Wii U eShop.

The Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time costume packs each provide Link and Zelda with costumes inspired by the respective game. A fourth pack, called the Demon King Costume Set, provides two new costumes for Ganondorf - one inspired by his appearance in Ocarina of Time and one inspired by Twilight Princess.

All of the costume packs now for sale are the same as those given to customers who pre-ordered (or in the case of the Ganondorf costumes, those in Club Nintendo) so be careful not to make a double purchase.

Hyrule Warriors' next DLC delves into the Legend of Zelda's past and retrieves one of the series' most memorable companions as a playable character. Reprized in her True "Twili" form as seen at the end of Link's GameCube and Wii adventure, the Twilight Princess pack brings Midna and her wiles to the Wii U hack-and-slash on November 27.

Zelda series producer Eiji Anouma explained on Miiverse why the Twilight Princess returns in Hyrule Warriors as Twili Midna rather than her more familiar form.

"When I was developing Twilight Princess," Anouma wrote, "I thought it was such a waste to let a beautiful princess like her only appear in the ending. Now Koei Tecmo Games has made my wish to see more of her come true."
While it is true that all Amiibo figures are compatible with the Legend of Zelda-themed musou brawler known as Hyrule Warriors, certain Amiibos will have added functionality, according to Nintendo.

As you'd expect, the Amiibos that add the most to Hyrule Warriors are the game's stars, Hylian hero Link and Princess Zelda. When connected to the game, the Link Amiibo grants players access to the Spinner weapon first seen in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The rewards granted by the Zelda Amiibo are less specific, but Nintendo claims that players can link the figure to the game as frequently as once a day to unlock a random weapon of three-star quality or better. All other Amiibo figures can be linked to Hyrule Warriors once a day to unlock a rupee bonus, crafting materials or a weapon below three-star quality.

The first wave of Amiibo figures will roll out alongside Super Smash Bros. Wii U on November 21, while Nintendo plans to launch a software update to enable Amiibo functionality in Hyrule Warriors in "late November 2014."

Nintendo revealed that all of its upcoming Amiibo figures are compatible with the Wii U brawler Hyrule Warriors, giving them added features beyond their previously announced Super Smash Bros. for Wii U functionality.

Hyrule Warriors players who scan the Link Amiibo will receive the Spinner, a weapon originally featured in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Other scanned figures will unlock randomly chosen weapons, materials, or rupee caches.

Amiibo functionality was also announced for Mario Kart 8 and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. The first wave of Amiibo figures will roll out alongside the launch of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U later this month.
All Amiibo figures compatible with Hyrule Warriors originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 05 Nov 2014 17:30:00 EST. An Amiibo figure slated to launch alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U next month will also be compatible with the recently released Wii U brawler Hyrule Warriors, Nintendo of America announced today.

Players who purchase Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's Link figure can register the Hylian hero with Hyrule Warriors, presumably after a software update. No further details regarding Hyrule Warriors' Amiibo functionality have been announced, but Nintendo notes that more information will be available as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U approaches its North American launch on November 21.
Link's horse, Epona, is a new weapon in the first DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors, supervisor Eiji Aonuma says in a blog post. Everyone wants a pony, right?

Epona is a new weapon in the Master Quest DLC pack due out on October 16 in the Americas. "Some of you may be surprised to hear that Epona is a 'weapon,' but in Hyrule Warriors, she can team up with Link to attack enemies!" Aonuma writes. "I already had a chance to try out Epona in the game. By riding Epona, I was able to blow herds of enemies away and gallop swiftly through the fields, and I had a lot of fun trying out this re-imagined version of her in Hyrule Warriors."

Hyrule Warriors gets four pieces of planned, paid DLC, available in a season pass bundle for $20, which also nets players a special Dark Link costume. The DLC packs include new weapons, characters, maps and costumes.
Nintendo and Omega Force's The Legend of Zelda-inspired brawler Hyrule Warriors launches in the eShop today, letting Wii U owners slash their way through endless hordes of Moblins and other familiar critters as they quest to save Hyrule.

Wii U players can also look forward to a Virtual Console version of Mario Golf: Advance Tour this week, along with other downloadable offerings like Angry Bunnies: Colossal Carrot Crusade, Darts Up, and a demo of Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party. The Nintendo 3DS, meanwhile, hosts its very first Yu-Gi-Oh! game with today's launch of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL World Duel Carnival.

Both platforms see a round of discounts as part of Nintendo's ongoing Super Smash Bros-themed sale, as this week spotlights a number of games starring Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and other franchise characters. Nintendo partially revealed its October lineup as well, announcing that Konami's Castlevania: Dracula X (likely the SNES version) and Game Boy Advance launch title Castlevania: Circle of the Moon will stalk the eShop in the weeks leading up to Halloween.
Destiny "comfortably" held on to top spot in the UK, says data compilers Chart Track, despite new releases Disney Infinity 2.0 and Hyrule Warriors charging into second and third. Sales of the space-roaming shooter had a typical second week dip, going down by 78 percent, but it was enough for Bungie's guardians of the galaxy to see off Marvel's guardians of the toy box.

While it didn't take top spot, Disney Infinity 2.0 sold 32 percent better than the first entry did in its debut week in the UK. Similarly Hyrule Warriors, Nintendo's link to the Dynasty Warriors, notched one of the best UK charts debuts for a Wii U game, only bested by the likes of Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin 3. In other Nintenews, 3DS nostalgia-fest Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call fell short of the top ten, placing 17th in its first week.

For the full UK top ten (and customary music video), head below the break.
What would you do with $2.5 billion? Sure, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson isn't pocketing the entire sum from Microsoft's acquisition of Mojang, but something tells us he'll uh, be okay for a few years. Unless you're keen on buying small nations and playing a real-world game of Risk, it's tough to imagine spending your share of a massive buyout like that.
Free Hyrule Warriors DLC launching on October 16 in Europe adds three playable villains to players' rosters: Cia, Volga and Wizzro. This DLC is also coming to Japan, but there's no word on a North American launch for the free content.

European, Japanese and North American Hyrule Warriors players can expect four pieces of paid DLC, and buying them all in a Season Pass for $20 throws in a Dark Link costume. As collected by NeoGAF from the Koei Tecmo TGS livestream, the four packs include mixes of new characters, weapons, maps and costumes. The Hyrule Warriors Master Quest DLC is due out on October 16, Twilight Princess is November, Majora's Mask is January and the Ganon Pack is February.

Hyrule Warriors is out in Japan and it's scheduled to launch in Europe tomorrow. It hits North America on September 26. Our review is full of praise, concluding, "Not only is Hyrule Warriors the best entry point to Koei Tecmo's other musou games, it's also a solid Legend of Zelda entry in its own right."

Anthony John Agnello (@ajohnagnello) is playing, Earnest Cavalli (@ecavalli) will discuss his review, and Richard Mitchell (@TheRichardM) will hang in the chat wondering why Nintendo didn't include Tingle in this game.

That's Joystiq.com/Twitch at 4:00PM EST, just how we do it every Tuesday and Thursday. Enjoy the streams? Follow us on Twitch to catch us whenever we go live.

Though The Legend of Zelda series includes some of the most beloved games of all time, Hyrulean protagonist Link has seen some less than stellar adventures in the hands of developers not named Nintendo. Capcom's Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages Game Boy games were excellent, but both relied on gameplay elements and graphics borrowed from Nintendo's own The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. More notorious are the three CD-i games which transplanted Link into a wholly new gameplay style that's best described as a hybrid of the sidescrolling stages of the second Legend of Zelda game and an unending litany of poor design decisions. The less said about the games' baffling take on Nintendo character design, the better.

Despite this disappointing history, Nintendo has now granted Koei Tecmo - more specifically, its most notable developers, Omega Force and Team Ninja - the rights to craft their own Legend of Zelda entry, a melee-focused Wii U spin-off dubbed Hyrule Warriors. It would be difficult to match the depressing legacy left by the CD-i entries, but it seems an even more daunting task to match Nintendo's pedigree of sterling high-fantasy adventures. Fortunately for fans of both The Legend of Zelda and Koei Tecmo's flagship musou brawlers, Hyrule Warriors is successful on nearly every level.
Continue reading Hyrule Warriors review: Moblin warfare

Hyrule Warriors review: Moblin warfare originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 17 Sep 2014 10:00:00 EST. Hyrule Warriors who are looking for a test of skills that goes beyond the game's Adventure Mode will be glad to hear that, as reported by Nintendo World Report, developer Koei Tecmo will be releasing a day-one patch that adds Challenge Mode to the game when it releases in North America on September 26.

So just what is Challenge Mode? According to members of a Nintendo Treehouse stream made earlier this week, it's basically "Adventure Mode on steroids." So ... it's tougher and angrier, but also has some acne problems and premature balding? Whatever you say, Nintendo.

Obviously that's a joke, but the truth of the matter is we won't know what Challenge Mode has in store for us until later this month. Remember warriors, patience is a virtue.

While more than half of Nintendo upcoming "gameplay" live-stream is just for the 3DS Super Smash Bros, the company's also giving some lower-profile games their time in the limelight.

The eight-hour broadcast starts at 10AM PT (1PM ET) tomorrow, with Smash 3DS going on the air at 1PM PT (4PM ET). The games starring in the first three hours include Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors, a duo Nintendo's already provided individual Directs for, but also three less high-profile games in Fantasy Life, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Ultimate NES Remix.

Crossovers must be tricky to develop - which fanbase do you cater specific mechanics to, and how much of each series' flavor do you implement while still making a coherent experience that can stand without its fanfare? Early talks concerning Hyrule Warriors certainly covered these questions, but more interestingly, Nintendo Life's interview with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and Metroid: Other M producer Yosuke Hayashi revealed that Hyrule Warriors was initially meant to be more Zelda than Dynasty Warriors.

When Hayashi approached Aonuma with hopes of collaborating on a Zelda project, he suggested the pair rethink what's possible for a Zelda game. He still intended to create something that resembled the mainline Zelda series more than the Dynasty Warrior games, however. When Zelda series creator Shigeru Miyamoto heard, he stepped in: Rather than adding Dynasty Warrior mechanics to a traditional Zelda game, Miyamoto insisted that Hyrule Warriors should focus on "grafting Zelda onto the Dynasty Warriors experience," the opposite of what Hayashi originally envisioned.
Among Nintendo's swath of announcements this morning is word that both Legend of Zelda-themed musou brawler Hyrule Warriors and open-world fantasy adventure Fantasy Life will receive downloadable additions at launch.

According to Nintendo, once players fire up Hyrule Warriors they will find an eShop download that adds a new weapon, new gameplay mode and the option to select your own background music to the Omega Force-developed Hylian melee. Fantasy Life, on the other hand, will receive new geography. Specifically, a place called "Origin Island," which is described as "a new area that is home to an ancient culture and powerful enemies, additional story content, new ranks to achieve in Life Classes, access to even more powerful equipment and two new varieties of pets to adopt: birds and dragons."

While the Hyrule Warriors DLC will be available at no cost to players, pricing details on Fantasy Life's Origin Island are currently lacking. Nintendo states that the DLC will be "available for purchase" at the time of the game's launch, but makes no mention of how much it might cost.

With all the news that surfaced last week during Gamescom, it makes sense that video game pre-orders would increase at retailers like Amazon. As it turns out, the biggest winner coming away from the show is Nintendo, as Wii U games saw the biggest boost in pre-orders on Amazon (8.67 percent). By comparison, pre-orders for PS4 games rose 5.16 percent and Xbox One games increased 2.81 percent.

The largest increase for a single game was 42.3 percent for Slightly Mad Studios' Project Cars. Bandai Namco announced a limited edition version of the game last week, which likely spurred new pre-orders. Rounding out the top five are Rise of the Tomb Raider (30.25 percent), Bloodborne (16.08 percent), Hyrule Warriors (11.77 percent) and Quantum Break (10.77 percent). GameStop won't be the only retailer with special costumes for Link and friends when Hyrule Warriors battles for control of your Wii U on September 26. Best Buy and Amazon have also opened some special chests and ... Dun-dun-dun-DUN! ... have pulled out some exclusive costumes as well.

Fans of the latest Legend of Zelda game should head over to Best Buy, where you'll get Skyward Sword-themed costumes for Link and Zelda when you pre-order the game. Those who prefer their Hero of Time to be a bit darker should opt for Amazon, which has Twilight Princess-themed costumes for the tunic-wearing swordsman and Hyrule's most-kidnappable princess.

And don't forget, no matter where you pick up the game, if you're a Club Nintendo member who registers your copy before October 23, you'll receive two costumes for Zelda baddie, Ganondorf.

The European special edition of Hyrule Warriors comes with the game and a scarf, which is basically the No. 1 item on our "in-box bonuses that are also snuggly things" list. The scarf is bright blue and orange, matching the one Link wears in Hyrule Warriors - when you're fighting off hordes of bad guys, you don't want to also be fighting off a cold, after all.

Japanese special editions come with the scarf and a rad Triforce clock. There's no word on North American special editions yet, but our fingers are crossed for some fuzzy slippers.

Nintendo offered new details on Hyrule Warriors during a Nintendo Direct livestream last night dedicated to spilling new beans on the game. The Tecmo Koei-developed offering will include an adventure mode that features a NES-style map inspired by the original Legend of Zelda. In it, players hack through levels with unique victory conditions, such as "defeat 300 enemies in 10 minutes," acquiring and using classic items from the Zelda series to find rare goods like heart containers.

Additionally, Zelda fans will appreciate the familiar ability to chop away at grass in Hyrule Warriors and attack the chicken-like Cuccos, which will attack players after enough unjust damage has been done to the creatures. The livestream also touched on the game's leveling and skill/equipment crafting system; we've embedded the full Hyrule Warriors Direct stream for your viewing pleasure. Hyrule Warriors will launch September 26 for Wii U, and those that register their copies on Club Nintendo by October 23 will receive two Ganondorf costumes.
Nintendo introduced Ganondorf as a playable character for Hyrule Warriors during last night's Nintendo Direct livestream dedicated to the game. As it turns out, Club Nintendo members will have access to two special outfits for Ganondorf in the game as well. Those that buy Hyrule Warriors and register the game with Nintendo's loyalty program between September 26 and October 23 will receive a download code for the DLC, which features costumes inspired by Ganondorf's appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

As the primary villain of the Legend of Zelda series, "The Demon King" Ganondorf will annihilate hordes of enemies with dark magic-like moves and his great sword. Hyrule Warriors will launch on September 26 for Wii U and will feature local cooperative multiplayer and some form of online play, though it won't have an online campaign.

Ganondorf, often depicted as the Big Bad of The Legend of Zelda series, will be playable in Hyrule Warriors, out September 26. This particular rendition of the Triforce of Power-wielding villain features a long mane of red-orange hair and holds a large, wicked-looking broadsword.

Nintendo announced the news during its special Hyrule Warriors-themed Nintendo Direct stream, which we'll have more information on soon. In the meantime, you can view the stream in its entirety on the official Nintendo site.

Nintendo's upcoming Zelda-themed brawler Hyrule Warriors will not support online co-op campaign gameplay, a Japanese-language promotional Twitter account revealed this week.

A local team of players can still play through Hyrule Warriors' campaign in an offline co-op multiplayer mode, which assigns one player to the Wii U GamePad's screen while the television displays their partner's character and viewpoint. Hyrule Warriors will feature online play in some capacity, but its core campaign is strictly offline-only.

News of Hyrule Warriors' lack of online play comes shortly after publishing partner Koei Tecmo confirmed that the upcoming Samurai Warriors 4 will feature cross-platform online multiplayer gameplay for the PlayStation 4, PS3 and PS Vita. Online play has been a standard feature for Koei Tecmo's Warriors series and its spinoffs since 2011's Dynasty Warriors 7.

Hyrule Warriors launches in North America on September 26.
Nintendo is bringing Hyrule Warriors directly to you in another idiosyncratic broadcast on August 4, with an English version confirmed courtesy of Nintendo of America. The game's Nintendo Direct airs on YouTube and the company's site, and the Zelda-themed carnage is set to begin at the not-so-friendly time of 8PM PT/11PM ET.

The news follows confirmation Ocarina of Time's Sheik, Darunia, and Princess Ruto join the Wii U game's cast of heroes - you can see all the playable characters unveiled so far in the video up top. However, there's one must-have inclusion we're still waiting on...

Hyrule Warriors hits Europe on September 19 and North America on September 26. In the interim, check out our E3 preview to see why Joystiq's Danny Cowan describes the game as the Zelda beat-em-up you never knew you wanted.

Proving once again that the most powerful force in Hyrule is a lilting melody, Princess Zelda dispatches hordes of Hyrule Warriors foes using only pent up rage and a conductor's baton.
First introduced in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Fi is the latest character torn from Nintendo's verdant fields to appear in Koei Tecmo's musou beat' em up, Hyrule Warriors.

Though Fi is technically not a person - Fi is actually the living embodiment of the Goddess Sword - she has no trouble dispatching enemies en masse. Most of the time, Fi floats through battle, using attacks that are largely magical, though the trailer also includes moments where the character drops the bipedal act in favor of being the aforementioned sword and cutting a Rupee-spattered swath through her foes.

Far from the only Legend of Zelda character in Hyrule Warriors, Fi joins perennial protagonist Link, Midna, Impa, Agitha and Lana, among others. Hyrule Warriors is currently scheduled to make its North American Wii U debut on September 26.

Twilight Princess' lovable imp Midna headlines the latest gameplay trailer for Koei Tecmo's Zelda-fied brawler Hyrule Warriors, showcasing an array of powerful attacks using gigantic phantom hands and summoned creatures. Midna is the latest in a string of Hyrule Warriors character profiles, following up on previous trailers featuring Link and Impa. Hyrule Warriors launches as a Wii U exclusive in North America on September 26.

Link, Impa, Zelda and a few others will introduce fields of foes to a world of hurt in Hyrule Warriors, but Nintendo Life reports that Japanese fans will earn extra tunics and dresses by ponying up for non-standard editions of the game. The official website appears to offer three different editions of Hyrule Warriors, with courage, wisdom and power-themed costume sets serving as rewarding DLC.

Nintendo Life links the courage set to the standard edition of Hyrule Warriors, with the Premium Box version bundling the courage and wisdom sets together. Nintendo Life describes both as three-piece sets, which each feature a Twilight Princess-themed outfit for Link or Zelda, but notes that the Treasure Box edition of Hyrule Warriors will bundle both sets with two additional power-themed costumes. Considering the series' traditional splitting of Triforce pieces, we'll try and curb hopes that those are for a playable version of Ganon ...

No DLC announcements have been made for Hyrule Warriors' Western launch, but it's interesting to see Nintendo approaching what feels like a standard practice for high-profile releases from other publishers.

Lana wields powerful lightning spells in combat, while Agitha enters battle with a deadly parasol at her side. Also appearing in Hyrule Warriors are Twilight Princess boss Argorok and Usurper King Zant, among many other cameos and callbacks to previous series entries.
Princess Zelda's loyal bodyguard Impa enters the fray in Tecmo Koei's latest Japanese-language Hyrule Warriors trailer, showcasing an array of devastating ice-element attacks. Impa seems like an ideal pairing for an agile co-op partner (like pyromaniac Link, for instance), as her gigantic sword is able to cleave through dozens of enemies in a single swing. Hyrule Warriors will hit store shelves in North America on September 26.

The defining feature of each of Tecmo Koei's "musou" games is the ability to destroy legions of enemies with a few massive strikes, and in that regard, the Legend of Zelda-themed Hyrule Warriors lives up to its pedigree.

Above you'll find the latest footage released by Tecmo Koei. It depicts Nintendo icon Link using one of the game's bigger weapons. "Bigger," in this case, refers both to the size of the staff, and the damage it inflicts on enemies. Standard attacks fire a barrage of rings that blast foes unlucky enough to stand in front of Link, while more powerful strikes create flaming whirlwinds, explosive blasts and even summon meteors to crush Link's enemies to bits.

In related news, the latest issue of Famitsu (courtesy Siliconera translation) claims that Hyrule Warriors will feature Agitha as a playable character. It's unknown what the self-described "Princess of Bugs" will bring to the large-scale brawler, but it's nice to the see that the oddball character has a life beyond her origin in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Hyrule Warriors is slated to appear in Japan this August, with a European launch following on September 19, and the game's North American debut on September 26.

Conan O'Brien may have not been the only clueless gamer at E3, but the TV star's take on gaming's annual LA-palooza is always worth a watch. After talking and playing Entwined, Forza 5, Sunset Overdrive, Project Morpheus and Kevin Spacey In Your Face, things get a bit creepy when 100 Nintendo ladies watch Conan firestorm Hyrule Warriors.
The next Zelda game coming to the Wii U is anything but traditional fare for the series. Instead, it follows a different set of traditions, basing its core mechanics on Tecmo-Koei's Dynasty Warriors franchise. Rather than putting players in the midst of history-inspired battles in ancient China, the upcoming Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U takes its cast and settings from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series.

Choosing one of nine characters (including series mainstays Link, Zelda, and Impa), players embark on a quest to save Hyrule from vast enemy armies. In the context of the Dynasty Warriors series, this amounts to mashing the attack button and slaughtering thousands of weaklings who dare to get in your way.
Continue reading Hyrule Warriors is the Zelda beat-'em-up you never knew you wanted

Hyrule Warriors is the Zelda beat-'em-up you never knew you wanted originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 13 Jun 2014 09:00:00 EST. Nintendo has announced Hyrule Warriors, featuring playable co-op characters Zelda and Midna, will launch for the Wii U on September 26, 2014, in North America. Europe will receive the game on September 19.

Hyrule Warriors pits The Legend of Zelda series protagonist Link against spawning hordes of familiar foes. The game is a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Tecmo Koei. Nintendo has said Hyrule Warriors is a placeholder name for the title. The "celebration of both the Zelda and Dynasty Warriors franchises" will reportedly arrive in Japan this August.
Hyrule Warriors coming Sept. 26 in North America originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 12:30:00 EST. Tecmo Koei's Wii U crossover brawler Hyrule Warriors is hitting store shelves in Japan on August 14, Japanese magazine Famitsu reports (via Siliconera).

Launching in Japan with the title Zelda Musou, Hyrule Warriors pits The Legend of Zelda series protagonist Link against spawning hordes of familiar foes. Famitsu additionally reports that the project is a collaboration between Dynasty Warriors series developer Omega Force and Team Ninja producers Hisashi Koinuma and Yosuke Hayasahi.

A North American release date for Hyrule Warriors has not been announced.
Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors are set for summertime debuts in Japan, but North America and Europe are still getting by with a nebulous and miasmic 2014 window. Just to recap - just in case - both games are Nintendo-published Wii U exclusives.

Hyrule Warriors sees Tecmo Koei bring its dynasty to the Zelda family, with Link taking on hordes of enemies at a time in fast-paced 3D action. Nintendo's previously stressed the game isn't a new installment in The Legend of Zelda series, and we already know a new, convention-rethinking entry is in development for Wii U.

Whereas with Bayonetta 2, what we know is Platinum's hack-and-slash is absolutely bonkers. We also know the sequel adds a two-player mode to the madness, and features both analog and touch-based controls. Oh, and Bayonetta sports a glam new do.

Apart from Mario Kart 8, there are two other first-party Wii U games confirmed for the West this year. Monolith Soft's X is scheduled for sometime in 2014, while the console version of Super Smash Bros. is pinned for the winter. On the 3DS side, beyond the games confirmed for May and June there's the handheld Smash in the summer, and the only-just-announced Pokemon Sapphire and Ruby remakes for November.
