Attention virtual pilots: New DLC for IL-2 Sturmovik is now available on Xbox Live and PSN. The DLC adds six new missions to the game, one for each theatre. Also included in the pack is a new plane to fly, the American P47D. According to the Xbox Live Marketplace description -- though curiously absent from the press release -- the pack also adds the German Ta 152 H-1. The mission pack DLC will set you back 400 or $4.99 on Xbox Live and PSN, respectively.

IL-2 Sturmovik DLC dive bombs PSN, XBLM originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 14:45:00 EST. If the likes of Tom Clancy's HAWX and Ace Combat are too arcade-y for you, you'll be pleased to hear that a demo of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey from Russian developer 1C has landed on the Marketplace. It's the closest thing yet to a true flight combat simulator on 360.

The demo weighs in at 1.22GB and includes a set of tutorial missions plus one sortie from The Battle of Britain. All things you'd know yourself if you'd already grabbed the demo via the dash or web Marketplace here.
Sturmy skies: IL-2 Sturmovik demo now on XBLM originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 15:45:00 EST. Simulation games of any type don't exactly have a large or successful history in the world of the console gamer. But since RTS's have been taking steps into the console world, sims should as well. Given that most sims are slow and a bit, well ... boring, it's good to see that not only is IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey the type of game that doesn't look very boring, but also that it has a name that doesn't suggest it's genre (we're looking at you MS Flight Sim!). While it's unknown whether the Birds of Prey version that will hit the 360 will include any new content, the game is already known as the one of the best WWII flight sims around and new content might not really be absolutely necessary to bring people in.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey coming to 360 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 03:00:00 EST. Russia-based publisher 1C games has announced its first titles for "next-gen" (or what we're actually now calling "current-gen") consoles: Captain Blood and the less-catchily-titled IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.

Captain Blood (pictured above) is an Xbox 360 and PC action game based on the Rafael Sabatini pirate novel of the same name. IL-2S:BoP, meanwhile, is being developed for Xbox 360 and PS3, with portable versions in development for DS and PSP (no Wii love, it seems).

No details on the gameplay or plot of Birds of Prey, but our deductive reasoning tells us it will likely be either about fighter planes, or predatory fowl. European PC publisher 1C is trying its hand at the current-gen consoles and handhelds, including everything except the Wii in its latest venture, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. Browsing through 1C's resume, we didn't find anything of note, but the again we're not really in-the-know when it comes to PC gaming.

If former endeavors are any indication of future performance, the fact that the company's previous IL-2 Sturmovik games rated well on Metacritic is a bit soothing. We'll be interested to see if 1C can translate its PC success onto the DS, although newbie DS developer DiP Interactive isn't the most confidence-inspiring of choices. As for the game's premise, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is a World War II flight simulator that lets the player engage in five airborne battles: The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily and Korsun.

Since 1C is a European publisher, we're going to assume that this game is only for Europe until we hear differently.
Birds of Prey hunt the DS originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Between this morning's details on Call of Duty 5 and the announcement of this new flight sim, it would seem that World War II enthusiasts will be happy with the ever present abundance of era-based games. Eastern European publisher, 1C Company, is set to bring IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey to the PS3 (developed by Gaijin Entertainment) and to the PSP (Dynamicsystems).

The game lets players become a pilot fighting in five major historical aerial battles: Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily and Korsun. An exact release date was not stated, but the game is currently slated for a 2008-2009 release window.

[Via press release]
1C publishes new WWII flight sim originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 13:30:00 EST. There are some Western third party companies out there that haven't completely given up on the PSP. Then again, technically, publisher 1C Company is Eastern European -- not quite west enough. We kid, we kid. The publisher is set to bring IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey to the PSP (developed by Dynamicsystems) and to the PS3 (Gaijin Entertainment). The game is a flight sim set in vintage WWII times.

The game lets players become a pilot fighting in five major historical aerial battles: Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily and Korsun.
