The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault-delayed-for-vita-coming/">once-delayed</a> PlayStation Vita version of Insomniac's hybrid tower defense-action game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault"><i>Ratchet &amp; Clank: Full Frontal Assault</i></a> will launch next week as a downloadable PlayStation Network title in <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/17/ratchet-clank-full-frontal-assault-updates/">North America</a> and <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/05/17/ratchet-clank-qforce-ps-vita-update-3/">Europe</a>.<br />
<br />
 <i>Full Frontal Assault</i> was originally released as a retail and downloadable PlayStation 3 title back in November, boasting cross-play features with a Vita edition that was subsequently hit with a series of delays. Buyers of the retail version of <i>Full Frontal Assault</i> - and its renamed European counterpart <i>Ratchet &amp; Clank: QForce</i> - will be able to download the Vita edition for free starting May 21 in North America and May 22 in Europe by accessing the game's "Disc Benefits" option.<br />
<br />
Those who purchased <em>Full Frontal Assault</em>'s retail edition will also receive an additional bonus after redeeming the PS Vita version when it launches next week. <i>Ratchet Deadlocked HD</i>, an Idol Minds-developed PlayStation 3 port of the fourth PS2 entry in the Ratchet &amp; Clank series, will be available as a free download for <i>Full Frontal Assault</i> buyers when it launches in the PlayStation Store.<br />
<br />
A release date for <i>Deadlocked HD</i> (also known as <i>Ratchet: Gladiator</i> in Europe) has not been announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault-launches-for-ps-vita-next/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: Full Frontal Assault launches for PS Vita next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 19:30:00 EST. Co-op shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fuse">Fuse</a></em> will let you take it for a test drive on May 7. Available through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, the demo supports solo play, four-player co-op (or two player split-screen), allowing a group to try out the four operatives of the Overstrike squad.<br />
<br />
"When it comes to <i>Fuse</i>, the biggest thing we've noticed when sharing it with others for the first time is that playing is believing," said Insomniac CEO Ted Price. Players can use the LEAP function to jump between the four characters, making it accessible to solo players as well.<br />
<br />
<i>Fuse</i> is scheduled for retail insertion and home extraction on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/23/fuse-lights-up-may-28-in-na-may-31-in-eu/">May 28 and 31 in North America and Europe</a>, respectively.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/fuse-demo-available-may-7/">Fuse demo available May 7</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 May 2013 09:30:00 EST. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/fuse">Fuse</a></em> will change the way we go to war, the way we hunt, the way we profit. It will topple governments and show the world vulnerability. However, there's a wrinkle. Fuse does not scotchgard or starch shirts. The movie has Insomniac partner up with digital media studio Blockade Entertainment and computer animation company Rainmaker Entertainment, who recently produced 3D CGI flick <em>Escape from Planet Earth</em>.<br /><br />A Rainmaker <a href="http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/rainmaker-entertainment-announces-financial-closing-its-next-feature-length-animated-tsx-rnk-1758943.htm">press release</a> from February 2013 indicates their next film, a collaboration with Blockade, entered pre-production in January; production was then scheduled to begin on March 4. Rainmaker notes completion "remains on schedule for third quarter 2014."<br /><br />"One of the biggest questions we've gotten in the last few years is 'When are you going to make a Ratchet &amp; Clank movie?" Insomniac Community Lead James Stevenson wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "The truth is, we've wanted to do a movie for a long time! Ratchet &amp; Clank's action, humor and galaxy-spanning adventures have really been the basis for a fantastic game series, and we think it'd translate perfectly to the big screen."<br /><br />Stevenson also revealed Ratchet &amp; Clank writer T.J. Fixman is scripting the film, while Insomniac also has a "hands-on role" with production and animation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/23/ratchet-and-clank-movie-announced-coming-to-cinemas-2015/">Ratchet &amp; Clank movie announced, coming to cinemas 2015</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 09:08:00 EST. Insomniac's coming shooter thumbs its nose at the current era of clean user interfaces, which attempt to disguise vital information in natural ways, in favor of the bright-as-can-be notices found in old-school arcade games. It's a retro style that, in the face of modern titles, <span>feels decidedly fresh. Further complicating the experience is the ever-present nature of your squad, working together as a foursome set out to destroy enemy lines.</span><br /><br />The trick with <em>Fuse </em>is that the four-person squad is always present: whether you're playing with friends, computer-controlled bots, or a mixture of the two. <em>Fuse </em>features a "Leap" system, allowing players to jump quickly between each character to command their unique skills. Insomniac says its goal is to give players the opportunity to fill every role.<br /><br />"We've built this game from the ground up with that in mind," Insomniac president and CEO Ted Price tells Joystiq. "We wanted to make sure that there are always four characters in the game but you can have just as much fun by yourself, or with one friend, two friends, or three friends. So that's been our design mantra from the very beginning."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-02-18-2013/">Fuse (02/18/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-02-18-2013/#5648093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/destiny002-1361225712_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-02-18-2013/#5648094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/destiny003-1361225713_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-02-18-2013/#5648095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/destiny004-1361225715_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/oddball-world-of-fuse-splicing-the-insomniac-dna-with-smash-tv/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oddball world of Fuse: Splicing the Insomniac DNA with Smash TV</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/oddball-world-of-fuse-splicing-the-insomniac-dna-with-smash-tv/">Oddball world of Fuse: Splicing the Insomniac DNA with Smash TV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 15:20:00 EST. Players must survive twelve waves of increasingly more difficult enemies - the exact configuration of each wave is randomized, though you're always guaranteed two boss battle waves.<br /><br />Price calls Echelon "co-opetitive" because while you're ultimately working together to ensure group survival, the constant money drops - essentially experience points - are something teammates will scramble to grab. With collected cash, players can purchase and upgrade abilities, and progress in <em>Fuse</em> carries across all game modes.<br /><br />"Part of our goal here is to make this a friendly game - if you've had experiences in multiplayer games before where you jumped in and had your head blown off in the first couple seconds, we don't want that to happen in <em>Fuse</em>," Insomniac CEO Ted Price told Joystiq. "We want <em>Fuse</em> to be a game where you're actually working with players and competing for cash and status. But it's always a friendly competition."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/12/insurmountable-odds-in-fuses-wave-based-echelon-mode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Insurmountable odds in Fuse's wave-based 'Echelon Mode'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/12/insurmountable-odds-in-fuses-wave-based-echelon-mode/">Insurmountable odds in Fuse's wave-based 'Echelon Mode'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2012 11:30:00 EST. We should also probably note that, in case you never played them, the full-blown Ratchet and Clank PS3 adventures, <em>Tools of Destruction</em> and <em>Crack in Time</em>, are both available at retail for about the same price as this amuse-bouche.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault-priced-begins-nov-27/">Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault begins Nov. 27 for $20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 12:30:00 EST. We've got missiles and volcanoes. We have a lot of exotic situations but at the same time we want people to take the universe seriously," Insomniac Creative Director Brian Allgeier told Joystiq at the 2012 New York Comic Con.<br /><br />But over-the-top elements still exist in the more mature-looking multiplatform game, as evidenced by the game's weapons and abilities.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/">Fuse (10/12/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/#5358323"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/fusein001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/#5358324"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/fusein002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/#5358325"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/fusein003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/#5358326"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/fusein004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-10-12-12/#5358327"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/fusein005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/insomniac-wants-fuse-players-to-take-the-universe-seriously/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Insomniac wants Fuse players to 'take the universe seriously'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/insomniac-wants-fuse-players-to-take-the-universe-seriously/">Insomniac wants Fuse players to 'take the universe seriously'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Oct 2012 14:00:00 EST. After that, we didn't hear much about the game at all, save for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/insomniacs-overstrike-and-fuse-are-almost-certainly-one-in/">a few recent rumors that Insomniac was rebranding it</a> as a game called <em>Fuse</em>. It turns out the rumors are indeed true: Insomniac's <em>Fuse</em> is what <em>Overstrike</em> has turned into, and it's a third-person co-op cross-platform shooter that's coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in March 2013.<br /><br />Joystiq got to play a short demo of the game at Insomniac's Burbank, CA studio last week, and we also talked with president and CEO Ted Price about what's different about the new game, why the change was made, and what it's like developing for Insomniac's first non-Sony console game ever.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/">Fuse (9/12/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/#5277007"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/fuse-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/#5277008"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/fuse-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/#5277009"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/fuse-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/#5277010"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/fuse-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-9-12-12/#5277011"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/fuse-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/ted-price-on-how-insomniacs-overstrike-became-fuse/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ted Price on how Insomniac's Overstrike became Fuse</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/ted-price-on-how-insomniacs-overstrike-became-fuse/">Ted Price on how Insomniac's Overstrike became Fuse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 09:45:00 EST. In the studio's latest bit of <em>Fuse</em> media - a mission briefing taken from the game - all four members of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/overstrike"><em>Overstrike</em></a>'s team show up after some gruff discussion about a "contact team." You know, "clean operatives with no ties to government" - sounds familiar, doesn't it?<br /><br />Those four operatives are listed as "Overstrike Team 009." It's sounding more and more like whatever "Fuse" is has at least some ties to Insomniac's <em>Overstrike</em>, a four player co-op shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/insomniac-unveils-overstrike-for-xbox-360-and-ps3/">first introduced at E3 2011</a>.<br /><br />Company head Ted Price wouldn't admit as much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/insomniacs-overstrike-and-fuse-are-almost-certainly-one-in/">in a recent interview</a>, but he was quick to point us to the official <em>Fuse</em> countdown site when asked about the whereabouts of his studio's new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/25/insomniac-games-joins-ea-partners-for-new-ps3-and-xbox-360-game/?icid=joystiq_ea_art">EA Partners game</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/05/insomniacs-fuse-briefs-all-four-members-of-team-overstrike/">Insomniac's 'Fuse' briefs all four members of team Overstrike</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Sep 2012 19:00:00 EST. Developers, as it turns out, like to own the stuff they create - <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> developer Insomniac Games is no different. And here's something you might not know about Insomniac: the studio owns virtually none of the iconic characters or worlds it's created. Not Ratchet, not Clank, not the world of Spyro the Dragon. That last one cuts especially deep considering the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/02/activision-brings-in-1-08-billion-in-q2-more-than-expected-bu/">vast riches</a> Activision's reaped from its Spyro-based <em>Skylanders</em> game. The former two are Sony-owned.<br /><br />With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/insomniacs-overstrike-and-fuse-are-almost-certainly-one-in/"><em>Fuse</em> (which we think used to be <em>Overstrike)</em></a> and <em>Outernauts</em>, Insomniac is pushing in a new direction. "For us, we're at the point in our growth as a company where we can own our intellectual property," Insomniac president and CEO Ted Price told us in an interview last week. "That's been gratifying for us because, as creators, controlling your own destiny - controlling the IP that you build - is important." Beyond its financial importance, owning IP also means unfortunate spin-offs of properties you created can't be farmed out to other studios (see: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-burning-skies"><em>Resistance: Burning Skies</em></a>).<br /><br />It's important to note what Price says about his studio not being able to own its previous projects. When Insomniac started in 1994, it produced only franchises owned by its publishers. Quite literally everything the company created up until <em>Outernauts</em> and <em>Overstrike</em>/<em>Fuse</em> was owned by outside forces. That's why you will assuredly see more Resistance games, despite Insomniac outright stating it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/insomniac-done-with-resistance/">won't work on any more</a> (at least any time soon) - Sony owns the IP rights to the Resistance franchise and can do with them as it pleases.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/breaking-free-with-your-own-ip-insomniacs-ceo-on-whats-next/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Breaking free with your own IP: Insomniac's CEO on what's next (besides Ratchet &amp; Clank)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/breaking-free-with-your-own-ip-insomniacs-ceo-on-whats-next/">Breaking free with your own IP: Insomniac's CEO on what's next (besides Ratchet &amp; Clank)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2012 18:30:00 EST. Price wouldn't admit as much to us during a followup interview last week, but he didn't really need to.<br /><br />"I'm gonna point you to Fusegame.com," Price answered when asked about <em>Overstrike</em>'s long absence from the public eye. Is it still a current-gen game (it was originally announced for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3)? He wouldn't say. When directly asked whether <em>Overstrike</em> and <em>Fuse</em> are the same game: "I'm being cagey here because I want to be consistent with how we're answering these questions," he said, deferring to his PR manager.<br /><br />The PR man offered a bit more than Price would. "We're very deliberate in what we're showing right now, and that's why we're just pointing people to the website and saying, 'Hey, this is a process. We're going to share more information with you, stay tuned.'" That said, why in the world would the two guys be pointing us to a website for <em>Fuse</em> when we're asking about <em>Overstrike</em>? The answer seems pretty clear to us.<br /><br />Price additionally refused to answer whether <em>Fuse</em> is an EA Partners project - <em>Overstrike</em> is an EA Partners-published four player co-op game.<br /><br />Unsurprisingly, Game Informer is <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/08/31/insomniac-overstrike.aspx">also positing</a> that <em>Overstrike</em> is now named <em>Fuse</em>, calling it a "reworking" of the originally announced concept (what that means is up to your own interpretation). We'll presumably find out for sure when the <em>Fuse</em> website's <a href="http://fusegame.com/">countdown clock</a> runs out in another seven days.<br /><br />And wouldn't you know it, there's an upcoming Insomniac press event offering hands-on time with an unannounced game. Sounds like we'll find out what the mystery is all about soon enough.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/insomniacs-overstrike-and-fuse-are-almost-certainly-one-in/">Insomniac's 'Fuse' likely to be a reworked 'Overstrike'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2012 13:30:00 EST. Well ... it still has all that stuff, it's just <em>also</em> got a thorough base defense aspect the developer is hoping you'll beta test ahead of <em>Full Frontal Assault</em>'s "fall" launch.<br /><br />That beta, as it turns out, is going on <em>right now </em>(through next week). We've got some codes for you going out on <a href="http://www.twitter.com/joystiq">our Twitter feed</a>, and we've also got a link to <a href="http://www.insomniacgames.com/invite/ffa/">this handy site</a> where you can procure your own, should your hands not be speedy enough to catch a code otherwise.<br /><br />Oh, also, the image above is full of codes that totally work (albeit for <em>probably</em> a super limited time). But what of Sony? The Japanese publishing giant owns the intellectual property rights to the Resistance series - as evidenced by the recent release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-burning-skies"><em>Resistance: Burning Skies</em></a> on Vita, developed by Nihilistic - but is it planning on any more series entries? "We have no definitive plans," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe producer Daniel Brooke said <a href="http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2012/06/25/resistance-sony-has-no-definitive-plans-for-the-future/">in a recent interview</a>.<br /><br />That isn't to say the series is done, of course. Brooke's full answer was, "The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on, but as for the future we have no definitive plans," which sounds an awful lot more couched to us than straight up saying the series is done with. Considering Sony's five games deep on the franchise and the latest entry was billed as a sell-point for the Vita, we're not counting out Resistance just yet. After all, those Chimera are awfully dexterous.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/26/sony-no-definitive-plans-for-resistance-series-no-games-curr/">Sony: 'No definitive plans' for Resistance series, no games currently in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2012 20:00:00 EST. Insomniac head (and general nice dude) Ted Price took to the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/05/30/ratchet-clank-full-frontal-assault-coming-to-psn-this-fall/">US PlayStation Blog</a> this afternoon to announce "Ratchet &amp; Clank: Full Frontal Assault" for PlayStation Network, alongside plans to launch the game "this holiday season."<br /><br />Aside from the artwork you see above and the logo we've dropped in the gallery below, Price offered few details on the game. He said it'll be a "fun-sized" R&amp;C title (like <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Quest for Booty</em> before it), and that the game will return to "the series' classic feel, camera, controls, and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play." What that <em>means</em> is another question altogether. Price also said that the game will feature online co-op, but kept details similarly slim.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: Full Frontal Assault</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault/#5054184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/ratchetclankfa01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault/#5054185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/ratchetclankfalogo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault-is-insomniacs-next-psn-ga/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: Full Frontal Assault is Insomniac's next PSN game, arriving this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 12:30:00 EST. In the case of <em>Resistance: The Trilogy</em>, well, apparently <a href="http://www.amazon.fr/Sony-Resistance-Trilogy-platinum/dp/B007PB2Y10/ref=sr_1_318?s=videogames&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1333391812&amp;sr=1-318">Amazon France</a> isn't too concerned. A listing - one that's still live as of this writing - for just such a game popped up on Amazon France, spotted by UK site <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/345096/amazon-outs-resistance-trilogy/?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG</a>.<br /><br />The listing puts a May 16 launch date and a &euro;59.99 ($79.99) price tag on the unannounced bundle, which we're guessing means a May 15 launch here in North America (and a likely $59.99 pricing). You've probably already guessed as much, but the product listing confirms the trilogy as a repackaging of the three Resistance titles already available for the PlayStation 3. With such a revealing product page, we expect to hear something more official from Sony as the day goes on. We've reached out regardless in the meantime.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/25/resistance-the-trilogy-pops-up-on-amazon-france-with-may-16-l/">'Resistance: The Trilogy' pops up on Amazon France with May 16 launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 09:15:00 EST. You can see what looks like an in-game screenshot on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/insomniacgames/timeline/story?ut=32&amp;wstart=1167638400&amp;wend=1170316799&amp;hash=10150767146194853&amp;pagefilter=3">the official timeline post</a>, along with <a href="http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150767148929853.474320.91127584852&amp;type=3">some concept art</a>.<br /><br />The blurb says the game was designed to be "the most realistic pinball simulation ever," complete with actual material physics and graphics running at in 60fps at 1080p (as you might have guessed from the title). There was also going to be a "<em>Gran Turismo</em> level of progression," designed to build as much replay value as possible.<br /><br />This, says Insomniac, also explains the whole <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxPZn9KHnu4">(pin)Ballz</a> phenomenon, and the company's fascination with pinball in general. The developer will discuss the abandoned game on a future podcast. As for whether it'll ever return, Insomniac says, "The <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/zen-pinball"><em>Zen Pinball</em></a> games do a fantastic job anyways."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/29/insomniac-reveals-canceled-1080pinball-the-most-realistic-pin/">Insomniac reveals canceled 1080Pinball, 'the most realistic pinball simulation ever'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:00:00 EST. Sneaky Chimeran forces. Don't worry if you were caught off guard by the launch of <em>Resistance 3</em>'s "Brutality" DLC -- we were all a little bit surprised <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/resistance-3-brutality-dlc-is-totally-metal-coming-today/">a couple days ago</a>. For the elite cadre of people who have discovered and loved<em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resistance-3">Resistance 3</a></em>, some new downloadable content is on the way ... today! Revealed just yesterday on X-Play (watch the video <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/718892/resistance-3-brutality-pack-gameplay-video-and-details-revealed/">here</a>), the co-op "Brutality" DLC includes a new survival-based scenario in a "darker" version of the main game's Wales locale.<br />
<br />
To help you deal with the "ongoing onslaught of Grims," as Insomniac CEO Ted Price put it, you'll have the assistance of the Sledgehammer. That's not a codename for some kind of missile -- it's an actual sledgehammer.<br />
<br />
Helping to darken the setting even further is a seven-song soundtrack provided by metal band Mastodon. "But wait," you say. "Isn't metal totally anachronistic for a game set in 1957?" Of course, it would be, if the characters heard it. Also, all metal musicians are actually aliens. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you already knew that. No human can play drums that fast.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/resistance-3-brutality-dlc-is-totally-metal-coming-today/">Resistance 3 'Brutality' DLC is totally metal, coming today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Dec 2011 11:30:00 EST. <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/insomniacgames/status/134711219595657217">Insomniac Games tweets</a> that it's patching <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resistance-3"><em>Resistance 3</em></a> today with a free update that will bring two new maps to the game. <a href="http://www.insomniacgames.com/update-on-patch-1-05-and-changelog/">Patch 1.05 will add</a> a sixteen player map called Creek and a four player map called The Granary to the title, both available to players for free after the patch is downloaded and installed.<br />

The patch also adds performance updates, improved team balancing, and makes sure that players who have hit level 60 can now unlock any and all equipment and abilities. There's also a tweak to make the Leaper Corpse a little easier, and Move functionality has been tweaked to work better.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/11/resistance-3-patch-adds-new-maps-tweaks-performance-and-move-fu/">Resistance 3 patch adds new maps, tweaks performance and Move functionality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Nov 2011 06:00:00 EST. Insomniac Studios may have some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/20/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-review/#review">explaining</a> to do for its recent release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One</em></a> -- and they're happy to do it. In a series of three developer diaries, the Insomniac team behind <em>All 4 One</em> explain how being small can still make a big game great, all while having what looks to be a fun time. That's what really matters, anyway -- that someone, either developers or players, have fun with the game. But only one of those groups can enjoy it; after all, that's what it's All 4.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-dev-diaries-show-off-a-small-team-bi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One dev diaries show off a small team, big game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-dev-diaries-show-off-a-small-team-bi/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One dev diaries show off a small team, big game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. Compromise. How much is a person willing to compromise their <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> gameplay expectations for a linear "co-op" title? This is the fundamental question anyone familiar with the series must ask themselves before delving into the jejune experience of <em>Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One</em> had to make several sacrifices for the sake of a multiplayer-focused experience. The first victim is my use of the words "co-op" or "cooperative campaign" in this review: From the outset, <em>All 4 One</em> is all about competition. Players are passively taught to just rampage through the game, blasting every crate of bolts and snatching up every collectible animal they see before the other players get their grubby hands on them.<br />

<em>Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One</em>'s opening cinematic is highlighted by the series' trademark humor and polished animation. The clip also conveniently plays over the game's installation process, so that's a nice distraction for those who pick up the game today.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/19/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-broadcasts-opening-cinematic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One broadcasts opening cinematic</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/19/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-broadcasts-opening-cinematic/">Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One broadcasts opening cinematic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Oct 2011 02:00:00 EST. No, Octomoth is not some kind of <em>Voltron</em>esque union of a dozen robotic moths -- in <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One</em>, it's actually more of a squid than a moth. But hey, on a world where there's practically no gravity, we can't possibly expect the moths to look like <em>Earth Moths</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/30/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-trailer-pits-the-team-against-octomo/">Ratchet and Clank All 4 One trailer pits the team against Octomoth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 08:30:00 EST. Cooperation is paramount in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One</em></a>, seeing as how it's a four-player co-op experience. And in keeping with that theme, we ask that you co-operate with us by watching this latest trailer. Or don't. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-3"><em>Resistance 3</em></a> may be dropping today for PlayStation 3, but it won't be long before Insomniac adds to the multiplayer portion with downloadable content, the "Survival Pack." Arriving on October 4, the Survival Pack injects "Invasion Mode" into <em>R3</em>'s multiplayer section, as well as a handful of skins and a "static XMB theme," for $3.99.<br />
<br />
"Invasion" is said to be a team-based resource management iteration of <em>R3</em>'s multiplayer, forcing teams to control various capture points on the map to earn points (or die trying). And if that doesn't get your mid-20th century heart all aflutter, keep in mind that two brand new (and totally free) multiplayer maps will also be released on October 4 alongside a patch.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/resistance-3s-first-dlc-dubbed-survival-pack-adds-invasion-m/">Resistance 3's first DLC dubbed 'Survival Pack,' adds Invasion mode to multiplayer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 14:00:00 EST. Our glowing preview of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-3">Resistance 3</a></em> in July left many of us at Joystiq wondering how exactly Insomniac evolved its big-budget, if far from best-in-class, shooter from simple spectacle to what our own Justin McElroy dubbed "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/resistance-3-preview-hurry-down-doomsday/">spectacular</a>." In our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/resistance-3-review-always-outnumbered-never-outgunned/#review">review earlier today</a>, Griffin McElroy wrote, "<em>Resistance 3</em> isn't just a great game full of marked, inspired improvements over its predecessor -- it's a declaration of intent to become the new heir apparent to the sci-fi shooter throne." When I had a chance to talk with lead designer Drew Murray last month, I decided to tackle that issue head-on, and ask if he considers that kind of praise a back-handed compliment. "I'll take those kinds of back-handed compliments any day," Murray enthused. OK, the coast was clear.<br />
<br />
Five years on from the original <em>Resistance</em>, a PlayStation 3 launch title and the studio's first first-person shooter in a decade, players would be right to expect significant growth from the team and for Insomniac, that meant struggling with what exactly <em>Resistance</em>, as a franchise, is. "I think with <em>Resistance 2</em> we swayed towards what everyone was doing," Murray explained. "I think with <em>Resistance 3</em>, we said, 'Let's take a look at what works well in <em>Resistance 1</em> or <em>Resistance 2</em> and what works well for the Resistance franchise and not worry about what everyone else is doing. We're going to do things that aren't necessarily mainstream decisions, but this is what's right for the Resistance franchise.'"<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/interview-insomniac-finds-its-voice-with-resistance-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Interview: Insomniac finds its voice with Resistance 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/interview-insomniac-finds-its-voice-with-resistance-3/">Interview: Insomniac finds its voice with Resistance 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 13:00:00 EST. In the opening moments of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-3"><em>Resistance 3</em></a>, you're informed of a fairly unfortunate development that dictates the tone of the campaign which follows: In the war for the fate of humanity, the home team has lost. Despite your valiant efforts during the series' first two installments (or perhaps, troublingly, because of them), the invading Chimera have taken over large swaths of our mid-20th Century Earth, pushing humanity - our protagonist included - deep underground.<br />
<br />
No matter how powerful leading hero Joseph Capelli and his bottomless knapsack of devastating ordinances become, that feeling of defeat never quite dissipates. Whether you're being overrun by a flood of savage troops or watching your traveling companions be butchered by an agent of insensate evil, you can't help but feel like you're losing ground; even though the passage of chapters indicates that you're moving forward.<br />
<br />
Put simply, <em>Resistance 3</em> exchanges the genre's all-too-familiar bravado for a pervasive and relentless air of desperation. It's a subtle substitution, but it's singlehandedly responsible for making <em>Resistance 3</em> one of the most compelling shooters I've ever played.<br />

<br />
We're not entirely sure, but Freddie Wong's alleyway may be the most interesting, exciting, and down-right dangerous place on planet Earth. The intrepid YouTube star been <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkc2vYUEA9w">Crossfired to death</a> <em>and</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/03/man-vs-katamari-rolls-us-up-into-a-ball-of-terror/">rolled up by a Katamari</a> along the same narrow stretch of road, and now the asphalt backlot has become a testing ground for <em>the future of motion control gaming</em>.<br />
<br />
If the holographic baddies in the Wong's concept video look familiar, they should; Insomniac actually halted production of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resistance-3"><em>Resistance 3</em></a> for an entire day in order to animate custom Chimera soldiers for the production. Wong claims that the majority of the technology required to build a motion gaming rig like this already exists, albeit in not-<em>quite</em>-so-advanced forms. Much like the angular, massively-wheeled concept cars we <strike>have all over our walls</strike> oogled as children, Wong's video gives us a glimpse into a future <em>just barely</em> more awesome than the one we'll actually get.<br />
