What you're looking at, project lead Kevin Saunders tells us, is an environment called The Bloom, which also happens to very much be a living creature. Yes, it's both a bustling commercial hub and a "semi-sentient predator" - sounds like Manhattan to us.<br /><br />The <em>Torment</em> Kickstarter washed past its $900,000 goal, amassing $1 million in just 8 hours. The campaign for the PC, Mac, and Linux game has broken more than a few stretch goals since then, unlocking everything from new areas, character companions, and novellas to developer inXile bringing in a live orchestra for the music. The traditional late Kickstarter surge should see the fundraiser past the $3.5 million stretch goal, at which point Obsidian's Chris Avellone, who was the lead designer of <em>Planescape: Torment</em>, will join <em>Torment</em>'s design team.<br /><br />Click <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/bprrender3-27a.jpg?9910">here</a> for a larger look at <em>Torment</em>'s first screenshot.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/01/torment-tides-of-numenera-gets-its-first-screenshot/">Torment: Tides of Numenera gets its first screenshot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 09:00:00 EST. Just 24 hours after its launch, the campaign for the <em>Planescape: Torment</em>-inspired RPG has been backed by over 30,000 people and has raised <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/torment-tides-of-numenera">over $1.7 million</a>, nearly doubling its $900,000 goal with 29 days left to go. So yeah, it's not doing too badly.<br /><br />Developer inXile laid out some early stretch goals yesterday, with two already eclipsed at $1.2 million and $1.5 million. That means players will be able to choose their characters' gender, with "appropriate reactivity" from non-player characters built in, and that writers Murs Lafferty and Tony Evans will join the team. Lafferty was nominated for last year's John W. Campbell award for Best New Writer in Science Fiction or Fantasy, while Evans can boast the likes of BioWare and Obsidian on his CV.<br /><br /><strike>If</strike> When the campaign reaches $2 million, which at this rate it'll have done by the time you're reading this, inXile will enlist Monte Cook, the creator of the <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1433901524/numenera-a-new-roleplaying-game-from-monte-cook">Numenera tabletop RPG</a>, to add his talents to <em>Torment</em>'s writing team. That stretch goal also means inXile brings in a live orchestra as well as further compositions on the musical side of things, and on the gameplay side a fifth player companion described as a "changing ball of goo."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/07/torment-is-kickstarters-fastest-ever-to-1m-clears-1-7m-in-fi/">Torment is Kickstarter's fastest ever to $1M, clears $1.7M in first day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Mar 2013 10:15:00 EST. The project <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/wasteland-2-kickstarter-exceeds-goal-and-is-still-going/">hit its goal of $900k</a> easily on the nearly ubiquitous crowdfunding service, and ended up with nearly $2.9 million.<br /> <br /> Over on the official blog, the developers say they're <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts">releasing this early shot for feedback</a>, and that they're also almost done with the game's main site, which is where backers will be able to update their support if they'd like to do so. The props found above are largely part of Unity's own database of in-game items, customized for the <em>Wasteland</em> world. As the team members learn to use the Unity engine, they're hoping this is only the beginning of the way the game looks.<br /> <br /> Presumably, they'll will have some help: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/30/obsidian-will-help-with-wasteland-2-if-kickstarter-reaches-2-1/">Obsidian Entertainment promised to pitch in</a> if the Kickstarter reached at least $2.1 million. </div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/23/first-wasteland-2-screenshot-is-only-the-beginning-of-developmen/">First Wasteland 2 screenshot is only the beginning of development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jul 2012 23:00:00 EST. The Kickstarter has started to pick up some momentum, it seems, as the total currently sits at just over $967K, with another 32 days to go.<br /><br />As stated on the project's site, the goal is actually to raise $1 million, but inXile head Brian Fargo had agreed to put $100K of his own scratch on the line -- it's looking like that won't be necessary any more. Which isn't to say there aren't plans should the team raise even more money. If they reach $1.25 million, the extra dough will go to "making the world bigger, adding more maps, more divergent stories and even more music."<br /><br />If the fundraiser reaches $1.5 million, that depth goes further, with, "more adventures to play, more challenges to deal with, and a greater level of complexity to the entire storyline. We'll add more environments, story elements, and characters to make the rich world come alive even more." Oh, also, it'll come to OS X. So, hey, how about we get things to $1.5 million so your buds at Joystiq can play the game on their writing machines? That'd be just capital.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/wasteland-2-kickstarter-exceeds-goal-and-is-still-going/">Wasteland 2 Kickstarter exceeds goal (and is still going)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Mar 2012 10:40:00 EST. For example, we sometimes neglect to give independent developers our coverage love (or loverage, if you will) as we get caught up in AAA, AAAA or the rare quintuple-A titles. To remedy that, we're giving indies the chance to create their own loverage and sell you, the fans, on their studios and products. This week we talk with inXile president Brian Fargo about his company's reboot of a familiar franchise, <i>Choplifter HD</i>.</font></small>

<strong>What's your game called, and what's it about?</strong><br />
<br />
Our big project for 2011 is <em>Choplifter HD</em> for PSN, XBLA and PC. We are taking a fresh approach to the classic helicopter rescue game <em>Choplifter</em> that was a huge hits in the '80s. People in the industry have really fond memories of the game and we intended to do it justice. In fact I brought the original creator Dan Gorlin on as a consultant he said it looks like the best adaption he had seen yet. It will be a very entertaining game.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/">Choplifter HD (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/#4229298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/choplifterhd-key-art1024x554_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/#4229299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/e3presschickendeath1024x576_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/#4229300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/e3pressgoats1024x576_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/#4229301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/e3presshelp1024x768_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd-e3-2011/#4229302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/e3presshospital1024x768_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-choplifter-hd/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Choplifter HD</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-choplifter-hd/">The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Choplifter HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Jun 2011 19:58:00 EST. <em>Choplifter HD</em>, which is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/choplifter-hd-airlifting-nostalgia-to-psn-and-pc-this-fall/">more than a basic HD-ification</a> of the classic '80s game, will also be available on Xbox Live Arcade -- the game was previously announced only for PSN and PC. <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/preview-choplifter-hd-202051.phtml">Destructoid</a> has a video showing off lots of gameplay, the zombie mode and a totally random appearance by <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/super-meat-boy">Super Meat Boy</a>.<br />
<br />
The deeper look at the gameplay reveals that even after 20-something years some things in <em>Choplifter</em> just don't change. Like, squashing hostages, something that is sure to drive a whole new generation of the gaming population <em>absolutely nuts</em>! Also, when you aren't squashing hostages, it appears you'll still be waiting on them to get their butts in the choppa. Oh, how we long for a "move out of the landing zone and run to the chopper like your life depends on it" button.<br />

If the idea of putting together <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/burgertime-hd">burgers in HD</a> wasn't weird enough for you, how about revisiting your old airlifting days on the Apple II via PSN? InXile Entertainment plans on doing just that with <em>Choplifter HD</em>, a project that will supposedly "redefine the helicopter rescue mission for the modern era." And just when we were thinking no one was bold enough to redefine such a mission!<br />
<br />
We were also at the point where we thought InXile had given up on the title -- the company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/inxile-files-new-trademark-for-choplifter/">filed a trademark</a> for a new <em>Choplifter</em> title back in 2009. It seems that the developer has spent those two years filling the game with content, such as a "variety" of helis to control and "more than 20" mission types.<br />
<br />
<em>Choplifter HD'</em>s announcement also details the new, highly unnecessary story. "Players take on the role of an up and coming rescue pilot asked to join the elite, international helicopter rescue team C.H.O.P.R. (Coordinated Helicopter Operations, Preservation and Rescue)," it reads, continuing in the long held gaming tradition of shoehorning ridiculous acronyms into plot lines. We can only hope that the C.H.O.P.R. team is getting some backup from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fear">first encounter assault recon</a> folks.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd/">Choplifter HD</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd/#4007285"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/chopgame-2011-02-25-19-55-10-69-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd/#4007286"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/chopgame-2011-02-25-19-55-51-95-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd/#4007287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/choplifterhdbright_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/choplifter-hd/#4007289"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/choplifterhd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/choplifter-hd-airlifting-nostalgia-to-psn-and-pc-this-fall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Choplifter HD airlifting nostalgia to PSN and PC this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/choplifter-hd-airlifting-nostalgia-to-psn-and-pc-this-fall/">Choplifter HD airlifting nostalgia to PSN and PC this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 14:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hunted-the-demons-forge"><em>Hunted: The Demon's Forge</em></a> has a major problem. It's a <em>Gears of War</em> clone, but it also wants to be a deep, character-driven RPG. The issue is that it far too often relies on the gameplay mechanics of the former and doesn't offer the exploration elements of the latter.<br />
<br />
During a recent San Francisco event, I was able to sample not only the introduction of the game, but a later mission in co-op mode. The game opens with a dream sequence, where the brawny and more burly of the two protagonists, Caddoc, is having a nightmare. Within, he catches a glimpse of a buxom, pale-skinned sorceress named Seraphine (voiced by Lucy Lawless) who'll play an integral role in his adventure.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-forge-quakecon/">Hunted: The Demon's Forge (QuakeCon)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-forge-quakecon/#3258435"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/08/12-minotaurcaddocfireouch03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-forge-quakecon/#3258438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/08/04-1starena2ndwave_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-forge-quakecon/#3258439"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/08/02-minotaurraah_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-forge-quakecon/#3258440"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/08/01-hallofslaughter_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/hunted-the-demons-forge-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hunted: The Demon's Forge preview: Through thick and thin</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/hunted-the-demons-forge-preview/">Hunted: The Demon's Forge preview: Through thick and thin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Feb 2011 14:30:00 EST. <font color="gray"><em>It's time for another titular <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/whats-in-a-name">origin story</a>! Today, Matthew Findley, president of <a href="http://www.inxile-entertainment.com/">inXile Entertainment</a>, explains the creation of a studio name haunting English teachers everywhere</em></font><font color="gray"><em>:</em></font><br />
<br />
I worked with Brian Fargo at Interplay for a number of years and we both left Interplay at the same time. We knew we wanted to stay in video games, so starting a company seemed like a good idea -- he spent 20 years at Interplay and I was there for 13. When we were first out there, trying to figure out what to do next, we kinda felt like we were in exile, and we made fake cards with a fake company name just to have a card to go to E3 with.<br />
<br />
And before we ever thought of the name "inXile," Brian put as his job description on the cards: "Leader in exile." People got such a kick out of that card, we kept saying "in exile, in exile, in exile" so much that we just thought, "Why not make up a new word?" And so we did.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: right;">
<div style="text-align: left;"><font color="gray"><hr width="100%" size="2" style="margin: 0pt;" />
<em>InXile is currently working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hunted-the-demons-forge">Hunted: The Demon's Forge</a>, which will launch on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 1.<br />

<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bethesda">Bethesda</a> has always <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/04/hunted-the-demons-forge-preview/">made it clear</a> that it wants gamers to associate <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/hunted-the-demons-forge">Hunted: The Demon's Forge</a></em> with action games like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/gears-of-war-3"><em>Gears of War</em></a>. Watching the latest trailer, we'd say "mission accomplished." Man, the world of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hunted-the-demons-forge">Hunted: The Demon's Forge</a></em> sounds like an awful place to live. Just listen to some of high points: A terrible rising evil, roving bands of monsters, antagonistic armies and, we're sure, <em>plummeting</em> real estate values. Check out the video to see why it's a buyer's market in <em>Hunted</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/new-hunted-video-tracked-down/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Hunted video tracked down</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/new-hunted-video-tracked-down/">New Hunted video tracked down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Dec 2010 08:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left; ">Brian Fargo is no stranger to the world of video game development, having originally founded Interplay back in 1984. He's worked on titles like the original <em>Bard's Tale</em> and <em>Wasteland, a</em>nd Interplay developed everything from <em>Battle Chess</em> to<em> Fallout </em>to<em> Baldur's Gate. </em>When Interplay was acquired by Titus in 2002, Fargo left and founded InXile Entertainment, which later released an updated <em>Bard's Tale </em>for PS2, Xbox, and PC. Now both Fargo and InXile are moving onto next-generation consoles with the swords and scorcery co-op title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hunted-the-demons-forge">Hunted: The Demon's Forge</a></em>.<br />
<br />
We recently spoke to Fargo about the game, which you can find just after the break. But be warned! Just prepare yourself for the sheer about of verbiage manages to foist upon us when we asked what the initial genesis for the game was. It's quite an answer! Read on to see what he has to say about the upcoming title, including why they limited to two characters, the depth of the puzzles in the game, and boob jiggle. Yes, boob jiggle.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/">Hunted: The Demon's Forge (05/04/10)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/#2947127"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/hunted05041001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/#2947128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/hunted05041002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/#2947129"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/hunted05041003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/#2947130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/hunted05041004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/hunted-the-demons-force-05-04-2010/#2947131"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/hunted05041005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/interview-brian-fargo-on-hunted-the-demons-forge/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Interview: Brian Fargo on Hunted: The Demon's Forge</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/interview-brian-fargo-on-hunted-the-demons-forge/">Interview: Brian Fargo on Hunted: The Demon's Forge</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 May 2010 20:00:00 EST. If you and your friends are eager to dive into a monster-filled dungeon -- and who isn't -- then <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bethesda">Bethesda</a> has a thrilling announcement for you: The publisher is handling a new co-op fantasy action game, <em>Hunted: The Demon's Forge</em>, developed by Interplay founder <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fargo">Brian Fargo's</a> InXile Entertainment. <br />
<br />
Fargo describes <em>Hunted</em> as an "upcoming release that takes us back to our roots," and the screenshots (in our gallery below) paint a pretty clear picture of what that could mean: warriors and archers putting holes in orc-looking things with sharp objects <em>and magic</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Hunted: The Demon's Forge</em> is in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and Games for Windows (PC). We'll have some impressions of the game later today.<br />

The company just released <a href="http://www.linerider.com/">beta 3</a> of the Flash game, which adds ... <em>a second rider</em>.<br /><br />Players can now choose the "Dual Rider" mode and set a starting point for a second rider. This opens up the gameplay to synchronized runs, races or, for most of us, watching <em>two</em> riders stop mid-line and topple off the <em>cool ramp</em> we made. Other additions in the new version include camera options and a new line-type that decelerates riders.<br /><br />Sparkworkz's site also notes that a new <em>Line Rider</em> variant for iPhone, dubbed <em><a href="http://sparkworkz.com/games/lineracer.php">Line Racer</a>,</em> is on the way, which allows players to draw courses and then, yup, <em>race on them</em> against other players.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/27/line-rider-now-lets-you-torture-two-riders-at-once/">Line Rider now lets you torture two riders at once</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Oct 2009 10:59:00 EST. There's a reasonable possibility that you're wondering what both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/original-fallout-designer-leaves-interplay-joins-inxile-dev-tea/">inXile</a> and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choplifter">Choplifter</a> </em>are. The former is the company responsible for the amusing RPG <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bard%27s_Tale_(2004_video_game)"><em>The Bard's Tale</em></a>, the console versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/line-rider"><em>Line Rider</em></a> and not much else. <em>Choplifter</em>, for the uninitiated, is a series of video games (first released in 1982) in which players had to pilot a helicopter behind enemy lines and rescue hostages. Also, as a sidenote, it was really fun.<br /><br />With that out of the way: <a href="http://au.gamespot.com/news/6212150.html">GameSpot</a> reports that inXile has filed a new <a href="http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&amp;entry=77758602">trademark</a> for <em>Choplifter</em>, listing it specifically in the category of "downloadable electronic games via the Internet and wireless devices." As such, it sounds like a new version of choplifter might be headed to services like XBLA or PSN. We also wouldn't be surprised if it showed up as a new iPhone title either.<br /><br />Whatever inXile is doing with the franchise, let's hope the game doesn't stray too far from its roots. A 2D/3D makeover &aring; la <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bionic-commando-rearmed"><em>Bionic Commando Rearmed</em></a> would suit us just fine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/inxile-files-new-trademark-for-choplifter/">inXile files new trademark for Choplifter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 05:00:00 EST. One of the developers behind the classic <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fallout/">Fallout</a></em> has <a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&amp;STORY=/www/story/03-18-2009/0004990636&amp;EDATE=">ended his tenure</a> with Interplay to join <a href="http://www.inxile-entertainment.com/index.asp">inXile Entertainment</a>. Jason Anderson brings his survival instincts to inXile as the creative director for an unannounced role-playing title. At the end of his career with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Interplay/">Interplay</a>, Anderson was working as the creative director on a next generation MMO named <em>Project: V13</em> -- which our blogging cohorts at BigDownload surmise was a poorly coded way of saying Vault 13, a long-rumored <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fallout-MMO/">Fallout MMO</a></em>.<br /> <br /> Anderson's exit probably feels like d&eacute;j&agrave; vu to his Interplay comrades. In 1998, Anderson left Interplay to form Troika Games (best known for <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerghan">Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura</a></em>) but returned in 2007 when that company shut down. While we wish Anderson the best, we really hope Interplay will reveal what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-v13"><em>Project: V13</em></a> really is ... as long as it is a <em>Fallout MMO</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/03/18/unofficial-fallout-mmo-director-departs-interplay-for-inxile/">BigDownload</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/original-fallout-designer-leaves-interplay-joins-inxile-dev-tea/">Original Fallout designer leaves Interplay, joins inXile dev team</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 16:55:00 EST. Having checked out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/line-rider-2-draws-up-more-screens/">screens</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/riding-lines-on-the-ds-is-pretty-much-what-youd-expect/">trailers</a>, and even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/line-rider-creator-speaks/">interviews</a> with the creator, you can bet we're excited for the game. But, which version should we go with?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/inxile-entertainment">InXile Entertainment</a>, the folks who're publishing the game, would have us believe both the DS and Wii version are <em>essential to our survival on this planet</em>, but we know better. According to Siliconera, each installment has its own features to lure you in.<br /><br />For one, the DS game has the incredibly intuitive and easy-to-use touch-screen, which switches between drawing controls and playing controls on the fly, where the Wii version situates any menu buttons it has in the corners of the screen. Also, the Wii version will feature Wi-Fi support, whereas the DS installment doesn't look like it does. The DS title is pretty portable (natch), while the Wii version is not (sure, you can lug the game and case around, but you can't <em>play it</em>).<br /><br />What about you all? DS version? Wii version? Couldn't care less about either version?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/comparing-line-rider-on-ds-and-wii/">Comparing Line Rider on DS and Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 11:45:00 EST. Predictable, yes, but it's more original than the anatomically wonky genitalia that most of <strike>you</strike> us will draw upon first getting the title. As we saw in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/riding-lines-on-the-ds-is-pretty-much-what-youd-expect/">recent footage</a>, <em>Line Rider 2</em> looks like it will be sticking to the original Flash game fairly faithfully, so it's only reasonable to assume that we'll be experimenting with the same childish drawings in the DS version.<br /><br />Sketch out a line and slide past the break for more shots.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/line-rider-2-draws-up-more-screens/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Line Rider 2 draws up more screens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/line-rider-2-draws-up-more-screens/">Line Rider 2 draws up more screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 May 2008 22:30:00 EST. In this snow setting (they might <em>all</em> be snow settings? It <em>is</em> a sled game, after all), it appears that your drawn lines create an actual landscape that your rider follows. <br /><br />You'll draw your line on the bottom screen, and then it will move to the top when you play, so you can control the playback on the touchscreen. Also found in the screens is an interesting tool that lets you alter a line by picking it up at a point and dragging it, which allows you to maintain a connected line. <br /><br />However, the <a href="http://www.liveds.fr/news/88862/On-se-fait-une-ligne-.html?c=3">first video</a> of the game shows the traditional <em>Line Rider</em> look in playback. Without knowing exactly what the deal is, we're guessing that you can preview a line before generating the snow, or that maybe you can change the game's look to a "classic" mode or something.<br /><em></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/first-screens-and-video-of-line-rider-ds/">First screens and video of Line Rider DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST. It's been a while since we talked about the cult flash physics game <em>Line Rider</em>. Last we heard, developer InXile Entertainment <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/19/line-rider-adaptation-for-wii-ds/">snatched up the rights to the project</a>, with the intent to release it on DS and Wii. Now, industry newbie Genius Products has <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/press-releases/35629/Genius-Products-LLC-Expands-Its-Offering-With-Publishing-And-Distribution-Of-Video-Games">announced intentions to publish the game</a> on the DS, Wii, and PC, with all three versions due out this summer.<br /><br />Genius Products has up to now specialized in the distribution of home entertainment products like DVDs. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/linerider"><em>Line Rider</em></a>, the Weinstein Holdings company is moving into the game publishing market, hopefully with a hit product. The retail versions of <em>Line Rider</em> will include a level creator mode with the ability to share creations online, but will also feature a single player puzzle mode with, inconceivably enough, a storyline. <br /><br />As Bosh -- the "clever and cunning" protagonist -- players must traverse over forty sled-riding puzzles to reclaim their true love Bailey from the hands of the "sled-stealing scumbag" Chaz (seriously). The pre-made <em>Line Rider</em> levels were notably designed by TechDawg, the #1 <em>Line Rider</em> player in the world. Let's hope this big(ger)-budget, plot-driven version of the freeware classic is still, above all else, fun.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/03/10/genius-products-pencilling-in-line-rider-for-summer/">DS Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/line-rider-coming-to-pc-wii-ds-this-summer/">Line Rider coming to PC, Wii, DS this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 09:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.geniusproducts.com/">Genius Products</a> is a home entertainment company that seems to focus on DVD publishing. They're expanding into video games with the DS, PC, and Wii retail releases of inXile Entertainment's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/linerider">Line Rider</a>. </em>In the press release announcing the company's new business, Genius revealed that they are planning to release <em>Line Rider</em> this summer on all three platforms.<br /><br />The press release also promises "over 40 mind-bending puzzles created by the #1 Line Rider player in the world, TechDawg" in addition to the abilty (of course) to draw your own puzzles and share them online. Try to upload at least <em>a few</em> non-vulgar ones.<br /><br />[Via GamesPress]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/genius-products-pencilling-in-line-rider-for-summer/">Genius Products pencilling in Line Rider for summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. For those of you who've been anxiously awaiting the DS and Wii versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/23/featured-friday-video-line-rider-does-super-mario-bros/"><em>Line Rider</em></a>, know that your wait is almost over. After not hearing a single peep about the game during 2007, this year brings news that not only is the game releasing this summer, but that developers have been hard at work on the game for quite some time. This title isn't going away!<br /><br />Other than a release date, the folks at InXile are keeping their mouths shut. We wouldn't expect any more information, as these folks have proven they're great at keeping their mouths shut about leaking details.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=35647">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/line-rider-riding-retail-shelves-this-summer/">Line Rider riding retail shelves this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2008 14:15:00 EST.
