<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/american-mcgee">American McGee</a> would be so proud. Konami has announced a new upcoming third-person action title called <em>Lords of Shadow</em>, which the company's European arm describes as "a dark fairy tale" in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. First announced during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/leipzig-08">Leipzig's Games Convention</a>, the game will be set in Europe during the Middle Ages, and promises to tell the story of "one man's journey to discover the true meaning of sacrifice amidst murder and betrayal." Honestly, this sounds more like fodder for daytime soap to us.<br /><br />Being handled by <em>Jericho </em>developer Mercury Steam, the project is likely the result of a partnership between the two companies <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/07/konami-jericho-devs-working-on-something-for-ps3-xbox-360/">announced last March</a>, at which time Konami called the game "a major part" of its release schedule for 2009-10. Konami has now narrowed that window a bit, confirming plans to have <em>Lords of Shadow</em> on retail shelves sometime in 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/gc-2008-konami-spinning-twisted-tales-in-lords-of-shadow/">GC 2008: Konami spinning twisted tales in Lords of Shadow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. What do you get when you bring together the force behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></a>, not to mention <em>Castlevania</em>, <em>Gradius</em>, and about a dozen other video game icons, with the developers of last year's squad-based shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Jericho"><em>Jericho</em></a>? No <em>really</em>, we're curious, because honestly we haven't a clue. <br /><br />Konami and Spanish devs Mercury Steam have partnered for a mysterious new project for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, a game that Konami calls "a major part" of its release schedule for 2009-10. The project, whatever it is, is being overseen by Konami's European footprint, which is just wrapping up work on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TrackAndField/"><em>New International Track and Field</em></a> for the Nintendo DS. Beyond this nothing -- and we mean <em>nothing </em>-- is known about the new game, through given Mercury Steam's track record of tepid action adventure titles (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrapland">Scrapland</a> </em>anyone?), it's impossible to care too much <em>yet</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/03/06/konami-mercury-steam-partner-up-for-mysterious-new-title/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/07/konami-jericho-devs-working-on-something-for-ps3-xbox-360/">Konami, Jericho devs working on something for PS3, Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Mar 2008 04:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Overlord/">Overlord</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dirt/">Dirt</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/metareview-clive-barkers-jericho-xbox-360-ps3-pc/"><em>Meh</em>-<em>richo</em></a> publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Codemasters/">Codemasters</a> has announced its financial results for the full year ending June 30th, a year the European company claims was its best in the 22 years since inception. A 38% rise in sales and an increase of revenues to $149 million is largely to blame on a 332% improvement in sales within the US retail channel. Perhaps blasting rally fans with the faux hip voice of Travis Pastrana wasn't such a bad move after all.<br /><br />A <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16290">Gamasutra</a> report further notes that these positive results follow from a recent $84.3 in game design and development, as well as a prominent marketing and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. home entertainment group. Mind you, releasing solid games such as <em>Overlord</em> and <em>Dirt</em> couldn't have hurt either.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/codemasters-pushed-into-record-year-by-us-sales/">Codemasters pushed into record year by US sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Nov 2007 18:55:00 EST. Well, truthfully, we'd be in exactly the same place we are now, but we'd be somewhat less entertained. This week, Zero Punctuation takes on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho"><em>Clive Barker's Jericho</em></a> and it's an absolute <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2633-Zero-Punctuation-Clive-Barker-s-Jericho">hate-fest</a>. Seriously, ZP usually has a few "it's not <em>that </em>bad" moments, but not this week. If you like <em>Jericho</em> -- not very likely, looking at the statistics -- you'd best avert your gore-loving eyes. Us, we're just glad to have something to brighten up an otherwise dull Wednesday (seriously, did you <em>try</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/screwjumper-and-shrek-n-roll-release-to-xbla/">this week's XBLA games</a>?).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/zero-punctuation-lambasts-clive-barkers-jericho/">Zero Punctuation lambasts Clive Barker's Jericho</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 17:30:00 EST. <div align="left">This week on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zeropunctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a>, Yahtzee travels back to the time when our game selection was much slimmer and hates on <span style="font-style: italic;">Clive Barker's Jericho</span>. It's worth noting that even a month later the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/metareview-clive-barkers-jericho-xbox-360-ps3-pc/">spread on reviews for <span style="font-style: italic;">Jericho</span></a> is still quite impressive. Yahtzee <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2633-Zero-Punctuation-Clive-Barker-s-Jericho">complains</a> about the colors, design and just the overall product that has rekindled his hatred after weeks of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/zero-punctuation-takes-on-medal-of-honor-and-america/">ho-hum blood lust</a>. Let's see if The Escapist can stop sending Yahtzee games by carrier pigeon to Australia and get him some games from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/new-games-this-week-super-mario-galaxy-edition/">deluge</a> we currently find ourselves in.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/zero-punctuation-hates-jericho/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation hates Jericho</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/zero-punctuation-hates-jericho/">Zero Punctuation hates Jericho</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 17:25:00 EST. <em>Clive Barker's Jericho</em> spawned from the depths of hell yesterday and reviewers are starting to chime in with their scores, which hold inconsistent numbers between outlets, but similar issues. For those who pay attention to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/gametap-thursday-sam-and-max-are-free-to-kill-abe-lincoln/">GameTap Thursday posts</a>, you know you could've gotten the game on PC with almost no potential for buyer's remorse from the service for free yesterday -- well, technically, for the cost of the $10 monthly fee, but new subscribers would only pay a measly 99 cents. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho">Jericho</a> </em>surprised us at E3, showing potential from a game we had heard next to nothing about. Although it's apparently not everything we were hoping for, it seems to get a passing grade -- with some angry exceptions. Surprisingly, scores seem <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/clivebarkersjericho?q=jericho">across the board</a>.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbox360/games/reviews/142968.shtml">GamePro</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "While the stage design is awesome, there are some horrendously long load times involved. It makes sense given the game's graphical prowess but it really cuts into the sense of immersion that the game's atmosphere does such a great job of instilling. ... <em>Jericho</em> still manages to shine bright. Its slick style, amazing graphics, and dark atmosphere really make it stand out."<span id="bodyText"><span id="bodyText_PresentationModeControlsContainer_placeHolderHtml"></span></span></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/CBD08174-A4AA-4A36-A034-81E58B4A0353.htm">Game Informer</a> <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "<span id="bodyText"><span id="bodyText_PresentationModeControlsContainer_placeHolderHtml">If broken gameplay mechanics and community college acting didn't weigh down the game, it might actually be worthwhile. Each environment features a macabre twist on a historical period, and they rival Painkiller in their haunting heavy metal video backdrop appearance. Unfortunately, the creepy locales and ultraviolent action don't translate into a frightening experience. And isn't that where Clive Barker is supposed to shine?</span></span>"</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3163891">1UP</a> <strong>(30/100)</strong>: "I'm also perplexed by the absurdly long (and frequent) load times, given that the game looks like complete garbage. Every level feels like it was made with an FPS construction set: boring, ugly, bland, ugly, dark, and ugly. (Did I mention ugly?) And yet, you work through the stages in ridiculously short chunks, as though the system can't handle the massive amounts of blandness. It's mysterious. ... But the thread holding Jericho above that pit of legendary awfulness is thin and fraying. Mr. Barker, you're better than this."</li>

When he's not writing scary scripts for movies, books, comics and games, he's thinking of more things to scare the crap out of you. Coming soon is Barker's latest video game creation, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho/"><em>Jericho</em></a>, but believe it or not, he's already planning the game's sequel.<br /></div>
<br />"I pitched to Codemasters the opening of the second <em>Jericho</em> title, which was very fun for me. It was great because you walk into a roomful of business people and you pitch the most hideous, horrible, f**ked-up things." he said. Barker didn't go into any more detail on whether the game's sequel has been green lighted yet, but he did say he plans to keep creating games for awhile and wants people to know who they're from.<br /><br />"I'd like to get to a point where people can say, 'This is a Clive Barker game.' And I can only do that by building a long-term relationship with one company and one set of people who understand me for who I am, not who they want to turn me into," he said. Judging from what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/30/hands-on-clive-barkers-jericho-demo/">we've played of <em>Jericho</em></a>, we hope he's found just that in Codemasters.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/clive-barker-already-thinking-of-jericho-sequel/">Clive Barker already thinking of Jericho sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Oct 2007 18:00:00 EST. <em>Clive Barker's Undying</em> still haunts us to this very day, so you can imagine what our expectations are for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho/"><em>Jericho</em></a></em>, the latest creation from Clive Barker's demented mind. <em>Jericho</em> is billed as a supernatural horror FPS, which is pretty easy to understand if you've seen any screens or videos. <br /><br />Thankfully, Codemasters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/jericho-demo-coming-this-week-to-ps-store/">released the demo</a> on the PlayStation Network earlier in the week, and we've had a chance to see if it lives up to its potential. The demo takes place about halfway through the game in an ancient Middle Eastern town, where the seven-member Jericho squad has been split up after several members fell into a sewer. <br /><br />When the demo starts, you control the group's leader Capt. Devin Ross, but you'll immediately realize he's not your ordinary protagonist. Capt. Ross was killed in action several years before, but his soul burns on to lead the team. That means you'll use Ross' spirit and his ability to revive his fallen comrades to control your three other squad mates, each of whom have their own unique supernatural powers.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/30/hands-on-clive-barkers-jericho-demo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Clive Barker's Jericho demo</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/30/hands-on-clive-barkers-jericho-demo/">Hands-on: Clive Barker's Jericho demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Sep 2007 17:30:00 EST. Unlike our compatriots at Joystiq, we did not have a chance to test the game at E3, so this was a fresh experience for us. It's clear that the folks at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Codemasters/">Codemasters</a> really want players to like <em>Jericho</em>, as the demo comes loaded with a very lengthy video explaining the premise and gameplay features of the title. You learn about the character switching dynamic as well as the abilities of the seven squad members. Unfortunately, you only get to utilize three of these squad members during the demo, but we still got a decent idea of how the full game should play.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/jericho-x3f-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jericho: X3F hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/jericho-x3f-hands-on/">Jericho: X3F hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 18:15:00 EST. The demo for <em>Clive Barker's</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho/"><em>Jericho</em></a> is now available on <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/clive-barkers-jericho/pc/game-downloads/clive-barkers-jericho/5966/7114/">PC</a>, Xbox Live and PSN. We've been itching to try this game since it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">surprised</a> us back at E3. The videos we've seen since then have stayed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/in-video-clive-barkers-jericho/">pretty impressive and gore filled</a>. Doesn't look like Codemasters is going to pull any punches regarding the gore either. Despite yesterday's report about <em>Jericho</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/jericho-finds-no-salvation-or-rating-in-germany/">non-rating in Germany</a>, Codemasters is sticking to their guns and <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=29012">won't edit the game</a>. The game is rated M in the States.<br /><br />As for the demo, the first thing anybody who has played <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thedarkness"><em>The Darkness</em></a> will notice is the main menu screen looks very, very familiar. It's also worth watching the "Introduction to Jericho" because it gives all the exposition so that the actual demo is pure gameplay -- be warned though, the voiceover guy is incredibly annoying. Although there are seven members of the Jericho squad, you'll only play as three in the demo. Controls are intuitive for anyone that's played an FPS and switching between bodies works really well. The combat takes a little getting used to, but certainly a demo worth checking out.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Updated PSN information.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/">Clive Barker's Jericho</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317534"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_priest-versus-bossb[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317533"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_l10_024[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317532"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_0310060007b[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317531"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1305[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317530"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1077[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/jericho-demo-now-on-xbox-360-and-pc/">Jericho demo now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 12:00:00 EST. The game centers around a sort of paranormal SWAT team called in to fight the evils of the world. Of course, by evils we mean the otherworldly kind. Each member of the squad has a different weapon set and paranormal specialty like telekinesis or the ability to summon fire. By switching between the various squad members, players can combine their abilities to make the best of any given situation. We'd tell you once again that Joystiq was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">impressed with the game</a> at E3, but now you can try it out for yourself. In a world where video game violence is spiraling upwards to a realm of not-even-realistic bodily destruction, Germany demanded that Codemasters edit <em>Jericho</em> to better comply with their video game ratings system. Codemaster's replied: "Following a review by the USK ratings board, which declined to give an official rating, Codemasters has decided not to change the artistic vision of the renowned author and film-maker Clive Barker though cuts and extensive changes." Good for them.<br /><br />Codemasters, making this decision, know that their marketing campaign in Germany is all but finished, so have decided to scrap the 360 and PS3 versions of the game in that region. The game will still be released on the PC, though, so if you're from the area, you've got a chance after all. Then again, the games are region free, so there's that route also. Don't forget, there's a demo of the game due out this week on the PSN (though <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=29012">GamesIndustry</a> says it's next week ... we're confused, too ... maybe it's for Europe).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/codemasters-says-no-to-censorship/">Codemasters says @#$! no to censorship</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 14:00:00 EST. The trailer essentially just mashes up several snippets of gameplay, highlighting the various squad members and some of their special abilities. We particularly like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/video-team-fortress-2s-amazing-animation/">heavy weapons guy</a> whose hand is literally locked inside his gun, only popping out when it's time to roast an enemy with pyrokinesis. Oh, and did we mention it's super gory? Well, it is. Of course, that's probably to be expected with Clive Barker's name attached to the project. Check out the demo (see it in HD <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25562.html">here</a>) and start impatiently waiting for the demo that arrives tomorrow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/prepare-for-the-jericho-demo-with-new-trailer/">Prepare for the Jericho demo with new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 11:30:00 EST. The Unterhaltungssoftware Selbskontrolle (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/usk/">USK</a>), the German version of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/esrb/">ESRB</a>, is <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2007/09/25/jericho-denied-rating-in-germany/">not rating</a> the upcoming first-person shooter-horror game <em>Jericho</em> and therefore it's practically banned in the country. We've gotten used to this with the Germans, the same fate was bestowed upon <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/18/germany-says-nein-to-gears-of-war/">Gears or War</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/21/dead-rising-not-banned-facing-unique-unrated-status-in-german/">Dead Rising</a></em>, although <em>The Darkness</em> made <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/29/the-darkness-delayed-for-the-germans/">some changes</a> to become acceptable.<br /><br />Given what we've seen of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho/">Jericho</a>, it was probably the violence and gore that made it receive the un-rating. At least this might bring a little bit of attention to the game which Codemasters seems to be putting almost no effort in promoting -- which is par for the course by the publisher. Like we said before, as long as the squad <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">AI holds up</a> in the game, we saw potential in the title. The game releases at the end of October, Germans can hop in their car and take a quick drive to another country for their copy. We hear Austria is lovely that time of year, have a cup of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluvine">gluvine</a> for us while you're there.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/">Clive Barker's Jericho</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317534"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_priest-versus-bossb[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317533"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_l10_024[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317532"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_0310060007b[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317531"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1305[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317530"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1077[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/jericho-finds-no-salvation-or-rating-in-germany/">Jericho finds no salvation or rating in Germany</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 09:30:00 EST. But we don't have to remind you about the validity of developer announced demos as they end up usually being a tad ... how do we say this ... off a bit. So, pencil in a note for this Thursday's <em>Jericho</em> demo and if it doesn't show up you can blame Codemasters for letting you down and depriving you of murderous killing and death. Our fingers are crossed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/jericho-demo-to-grace-xblm-this-thursday/">Jericho demo to grace XBLM this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 14:15:00 EST. We'll probably see it in the PS Store on Thursday, as is the usual update period we've grown accustomed to. The game looks to be incredibly violent, so if you've got children that like the bask in the warm glowing warming glow of the PS3, you may want to scurry them off to bed before mutilating some creepy critters. We're not sure what the demo actually entails, but we're willing to bet you get to try your hand at all the characters in the first level: the city of Al-Khali. In any case, try it out this Thursday!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/jericho-demo-coming-this-week-to-ps-store/">Jericho demo coming this week to PS Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 10:30:00 EST. <p>Nothing quite like a violent FPS gameplay trailer to wake you up on a Monday, huh? This latest video for Clive Barker's <em>Jericho</em> contains what we assume to be the opening cutscenes to the game, followed by a brief look at the actual gameplay. While at the moment it looks like any other FPS, we know there's a lot more to each character than weaponry: spells, secret abilities, etc. It's sort of hinted at when the one person starts waving blue hands at you, probably to heal you. If nothing else, fighting nasty-looking creatures who emerge from the sand is going to be a different experience for a lot of FPS fans.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/jericho-gameplay-video-will-get-your-blood-pumping/">Jericho gameplay video will get your blood pumping</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 11:00:00 EST. We've already talked about the possibility of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/clive-barker-talks-of-games-as-art-of-jericho-of-sequels/"><em>Jericho </em>series becoming a trilogy</a>, but we didn't talk about the idea of Clive Barker going all Tom Clancy on us -- getting a lot of different game licenses out there and flooding the market with titles.<br /><br />It's not a bad thing, since Barker has actually done something beyond political intrigue/spy espionage. He's got a large back catalogue of not just horror, but fantasy as well. Not goblins and elves ... more like Gaiman-esque fantasy. We're interested to see if this idea comes to fruition, especially if <em>Jericho</em> proves to be a good title. We'll keep you posted.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/clive-barker-codemasters-want-to-make-many-different-games/">Clive Barker, Codemasters want to make many different games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Aug 2007 23:00:00 EST. Codemasters is hoping to make Clive Barker's name as synonymous with games as Tom Clancy's is now. Speaking with IGN, <em>Jericho</em> producer Joe Falke says Codemasters is looking at Barker as a <a href="http://pc.ign.com/articles/812/812444p1.html">potential source</a> for many, not just horror, titles. Allegedly Barker is on board with the idea and wouldn't mind doing more games.<br /><br />Years ago <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Barker%27s_Undying"><em>Clive Barker's Undying</em></a> was well-received, but ultimately a failure, causing EA to cancel the very notion of a sequel. Given the lack of marketing, we were certainly caught off guard when we saw <em>Clive Barker's Jericho</em> at E3. The game did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">impress us</a> and our only main fear point was whether the squad's AI would hold up in actual gameplay. Later released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/in-video-clive-barkers-jericho/">videos</a> kept us on track to being impressed this October when the game is expected to launch. Hopefully some more muscle will get put behind <em>Jericho</em>'s marketing before the release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/codemasters-seeks-ltr-with-clive-barker/">Codemasters seeks LTR with Clive Barker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Aug 2007 16:25:00 EST. The demo is going to hit the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live, and PCs simultaneously this August. Looks like developers are finally recognizing that giving PS3 owners a demo alongside the other platforms might be worth their while!<br /><br />Demos are starting to get announced left and right. <em>Heavenly Sword</em>, the rumored <em>Lair</em> demo that we still don't see, <em>Bladestorm</em>, <em>Jericho</em>, and others are all scheduled for demos in the near future. We're glad to see the revamped support for the PS Store and Sony gamers in general, so with that pleasant note, we're going to end this song and start ourselves on <em>Persona 3</em>.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-54124.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/jericho-demo-due-out-in-august-for-all-platforms/">Jericho demo due out in August for all platforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jul 2007 14:20:00 EST. After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">questioning</a> <span style="font-style: italic;">Jericho</span>'s lack of presence so close to its impending September release in our initial impressions, we're finally able share some (very dark) gameplay videos from <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com">Gametrailers</a>. The clips focus mainly on physical combat, though you'll catch a few glimpses of the character switching mechanic and the destructive magical abilities that prompted us to describe the depicted struggle as a "micro-war between fantastic supernatural beings." <br /><br />Also of note is the fact that voice acting is not yet finalized and that the soundtrack, composed by <span style="font-style: italic;">God of War</span>'s Cris Velasco, is currently absent.<br /><br />[<em>Warning</em>: Videos contain some profanity, violence and the line, "I'm very dusty, sir."]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/in-video-clive-barkers-jericho/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In video: Clive Barker's Jericho</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/in-video-clive-barkers-jericho/">In video: Clive Barker's Jericho</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jul 2007 22:28:00 EST. According to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">Joystiq</a>, it might be <em>Clive Barker's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jericho">Jericho</a></em>. Apart from featuring gobs of ghastly ghoulies, <em>Jericho</em> also looks to be sporting some very solid gameplay. The primary gameplay element revolves around the character switching dynamic, which gives players a multitude of skills and abilities spread across six different squad members. If the idea of blasting monstrous baddies with mind-controlled bullets sounds exciting. Hit the "read" link to check out Joystiq's in depth preview. Oh, ever wondered what the first person view of decapitation looks like? It's a question that's constantly passing between members of the press during the <a href="http://e307.joystiq.com">E3 Media Summit</a>, with answers including the likes of "<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/joystiq-hands-on-assassins-creed/">Assassin's Creed</a></em>," "<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-impressions-halo-wars/">Halo Wars</a></em>" and, in what surely came after a bout of heavy drinking, "<em>The Golden Compass</em>." When the conversation turns to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Codemasters/">Codemasters</a>-published <em>Jericho</em>, however, most people have to pause in order to search through their memories, hoping to extract any tidbits of information to discuss. "Oh yeah, it's that Clive Barker game," is the best most can manage. <br /><br />We find ourselves similarly stunned upon seeing the game in action for the first time. Though this result speaks highly of the game's unique content, it's somewhat alarming when the title in question is nearly 95% complete and scheduled for release this September. When queried about the game's lack of buzz and information (just try finding a video of gameplay!), creative lead Joe Falke shrugs and exchanges an uncertain glance with a colleague. "Well... we're not sure how the marketing people are handling this." <em>Rather poorly</em>, we think. Lucky for them (and for you) our job is to equip you with enough knowledge to muster a better answer the next time somebody inquires about <em>Jericho</em>. "Oh yeah, it's that Clive Barker game. You know, that squad-based, time-traveling horror first-person shooter that lets you steer bullets with your mind."<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/">Clive Barker's Jericho</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317534"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_priest-versus-bossb[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317533"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_l10_024[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317532"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/jericho_0310060007b[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317531"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1305[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clive-barkers-jericho-1/#317530"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/cbsjericho_frame_1077[1]_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Clive Barker's Jericho</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-clive-barkers-jericho/">Joystiq impressions: Clive Barker's Jericho</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jul 2007 16:55:00 EST. He writes scary stuff. If we're going to use very faulty, feeble and silly logic, we'd say "Clive Barker is a writer. He writes scary stuff. Thus, Clive Barker is scary stuff." Crazy logic is fun and that seems to be a driving point with his games, such as <em>Jericho</em>, which is planned as a trilogy. We had a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/clive-barkers-jericho-hands-on-impressions/">big preview of the game</a> a while back and we're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/new-jericho-preview-with-details-to-scare-you-silly/">pretty excited to see how it turns out</a>. But does he really think games are art? Here's a hint from us: they are.<br /><br />When asked about the claim that games are inferior to things like film or books, Barker frighteningly replied, "That's bullshit ... We can debate what art is, we can debate it forever. But if the experience moves you, some way or another, even if it just moves your bowels, I think it's worthy of some serious study ... Games mean something to a lot of people." Right on, Clive, right on.<br /><br />He discussed <em>Jericho</em> and some future games, namely the two sequels. The game was supposed to be a book, initially. He couldn't decide what medium exactly, but for some reason he was drawn into making it as a game. Why? He clarifies: "It would make a f***ing terrible novel. It really would, it doesn't work! It screams out to be something other. Maybe if games hadn't existed, I would've made it a movie. But I much prefer the idea of having twenty hours to play this world, to enter this labyrinth than the two hours or the way movies are going now." We agree with him and we can't wait to play <em>Jericho</em> either. We're glad it's not a book. We like games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/clive-barker-talks-of-games-as-art-of-jericho-of-sequels/">Clive Barker talks of games as art, of Jericho, of sequels</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 21:30:00 EST. You know that it's just a normal day in Hollywood when you have to stumble through a crowd of teenyboppers attending a Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus concert, fight through a forest of lounge chairs bearing bikini-clad girls, and make your way through the labyrinthine Hollywood &amp; Highland complex to find a conference about video games.<br /><br />Barker, who sounded like he'd taken a chainsaw to the throat recently, rasped his way through a lot of information about his upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/clive-barkers-jericho-announced-for-next-gen-consoles/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Clive Barker's Jericho</span></a> game, which he's been involved in developing based on one of the "millions of ideas flying around in my head." He made it a special point to talk about Roger Ebert's now famous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/30/ebert-video-games-inherently-inferior-to-film-and-literature/">quote</a>, where he states that video games are inferior to literature and movies, and cannot be considered high art.<br /><br />Shortly after Barker began slamming this quote, there were extremely loud noises behind the stage. Barker paused and said, "He's outside! Let's leave him there." Later, the apparently clumsy waiter backstage dropped a huge tray, or possibly a box full of hubcaps, and Barker said "He's gonna get in! He's passing himself of as a waiter ... coming around the side door!"<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/hollywood-and-games-summit-clive-barker-is-scary/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hollywood &amp; Games Summit: Clive Barker is scary</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/hollywood-and-games-summit-clive-barker-is-scary/">Hollywood &amp; Games Summit: Clive Barker is scary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 18:55:00 EST. If these <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/jericho-trailer-to-give-you-some-thrills-and-chills/"><em>Clive Barker's Jericho</em></a> screens don't already demand your attention, we're not sure what else will. Judging from the success of the last <em>Clive Barker</em> <em>Undying</em> outing on PC alone, this is definitely a highly anticipated title for all consoles. <br /><br />The boys at <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/796/796012p1.html">IGN</a> had their fill of the latest build and felt similarly to CVG during their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/clive-barkers-jericho-hands-on-impressions/">earlier play-test</a>. Needless to say, they came away impressed, noting crisp textures across the diverse levels and enemies with clever touches of detail throughout the world, like swarms of helpful black flies that scurry fallen enemies off the map. Cool. The game also features interactive <strike>anxiety-riddled</strike> button-pressing segments (ala <em>Resident Evil 4</em>). No official word on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/sixaxis-to-gain-rumble-capabilities-sometime-this-year/">SIXAXIS</a> interactivity for these scenes, but the type of game play during these scenes practically screams for it. At any rate, feast your looking balls on the new gallery and stay tuned for more updates as we approach the September release date for<em> <a href="http://www.codemasters.com/games/?gameid=2090">Clive Barker's Jericho</a>.</em>
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/new-jericho-preview-with-details-to-scare-you-silly/">New Jericho preview with details to scare you silly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 13:30:00 EST. You see, in <em>Jericho</em> each one of your seven squad members has different abilities and weapons that you have to strategically give orders to so they can unleash death on the enemy. And if the whole giving orders thing isn't getting the job done, one can switch between characters to take a hands on approach at any time. It'll be interesting to see if the whole team dynamic thing will be implemented correctly or if it'll end up being the bastard child of a feature that nobody cares for. No matter, because we know that <em>Jericho </em>is crazy scary and will feature skinless freaks of nature that are hell bent on eating your soul in demonic ways. Which will make the game somewhat fun even if it only lasts fifteen minutes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/team-features-will-play-a-big-role-in-jericho/">Team features will play a big role in Jericho</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 13:00:00 EST. We'll summarize their thoughts and skip most of the story-revealing bits for those who want to sleep tonight:<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li>Every member of the "Jericho Team" has a special set of brutal weaponry and their own psychic abilities. These abilities range from exorcism and alchemy to clairvoyance and telekinesis (Hmm, <em>Psi-Ops</em>, anyone?).</li>
    <li>You can swap control between any of these characters at any time during the game. Their powers are described and, yeah, they're pretty darn neat sounding.</li>
    <li>Don't worry, a slick AI controls the other characters you aren't in the eyes of.</li>
    <li>The graphics? Amazing. The atmosphere? Sinister with dark ambience. Basically, it does the FPS-Horror cross-genre justice. Gruesome enemies with a fantastic atmosphere... sounds hot.</li>
    <li>You're in first-person at <em>all times</em>. Climbing up cliffs, scrambling through a narrow passage... this is a true first-person title.</li>

<br />Sounds pretty impressive. There are other things, like timed button sequences (or something similar) and rain/blood splattering against your screen/eyes, but those aren't new. They'll certainly add to the atmosphere, though. We'll keep our eyes open for more information on this cute title.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/clive-barkers-jericho-hands-on-impressions/">Clive Barker's Jericho hands-on impressions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 14:30:00 EST. Today, Codemasters <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13238/Clive-Barkers-Jericho-Box-Art/">released</a> the box art for <em>Jericho</em> (which is suspensefully posted after the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/jericho-gets-a-cover-but-still-missing-a-face/">break</a>) and it's just as creepy looking as the game. Which, after watching the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/clive-barkers-jericho-looks-promising/">video</a> and looking through those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/31/jericho-screens-to-give-you-nightmares/">screenshots</a>, looks pretty fun and twisted. We're definitely optimistic about the potential <em>Jericho</em> has, but we've got our bad game shield raised and ready to defend. Anyway, there is box art awaiting your presence after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/jericho-gets-a-cover-but-still-missing-a-face/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jericho gets a cover, but still missing a face</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/jericho-gets-a-cover-but-still-missing-a-face/">Jericho gets a cover, but still missing a face</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 14:00:00 EST. On the TV side, we have <span style="font-style: italic;">South Park</span>, naturally on top, with <span style="font-style: italic;">UFC Fights, Star Trek Enterprise</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Jericho</span>'s HD content making the grade, and even the un-aired <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercy_Reef"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mercy Reef/Aquaman</span></a> pilot got on the list, after being released on the 12th. For films, We have <span style="font-style: italic;">The Departed</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Snakes on a Plane</span> in the top two, albeit in 480p. <span style="font-style: italic;">Crank</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Saw III</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">The Illusionist</span> also got proper recognition. In fact, the last thing we heard was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/31/a-jericho-trailer-for-halloween/">announcement</a> of the game itself. It seems 1UP thought the same thing and has uncovered both a new trailer and posted a <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&amp;cId=3158145">preview</a> for the game. So, what's <em>Jericho</em> all about? What we already knew is that it's about a special government squad called Jericho Team that specializes in dealing with paranormal threats.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/clive-barkers-jericho-looks-promising/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Clive Barker's Jericho looks promising</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/clive-barkers-jericho-looks-promising/">Clive Barker's Jericho looks promising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 09:35:00 EST. At first, I couldn't have been more blas&eacute; about this game, but the more that gets told about it, the more I'm interested. Hopefully after watching this trailer, you might be inclined to enjoy a title that is everything <em>Nightmare Creatures</em> wanted to be -- scary.<br /><br />You know, we've made a <em>Nightmare Creatures</em> reference fairly recently. Are there really so few games that try to be scary without resorting to the survival horror genre? Go ahead and let us know what you come up with. We've one or two in mind, but they're not exactly worth mentioning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/jericho-trailer-to-give-you-some-thrills-and-chills/">Jericho trailer to give you some thrills and chills</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Mar 2007 17:30:00 EST. Now we just dug up a teaser trailer on <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=3380">GameTrailers</a>. Full of TV "white noise" effects -- it's the new bullet time -- the trailer is sure to scratch that horror itch. Granted, there's not really any gameplay, but it conveys the mood quite well. Aside from games, the British-born horror novelist has stretched his talents across the film, theatre, paint, and comic mediums.<br /><br />Judging from <a target="_blank" href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=66162">these</a> early glimpses, the development team is setting a grisly tone, but nothing shockingly novel. Codemasters has gotten too comfortable with its string of racing-sims these past few years. Let's hope a change of direction -- and Barker's imagination -- lends itself to something special, lest <em>Jericho</em> become just another pretender saturating the horror genre. Show us more!<br /><br />Update: corrected Barker's gaming history.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/31/boo-clive-barkers-jericho/">Boo! Looking at these shots of bloody, grisly, congealed, nasty monsters, we'd be hard-pressed to disagree. The game focuses on a special squad -- named "Jericho Team," of course -- that serves the government in regulating paranormal threats. Boy, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fear">that</a> </em>sounds familiar. An interesting twist is that each squad member has a different arcane specialty (clairvoyance, alchemy, etc.) We hope one of them is a firestarter. We don't know much more about the game at this point, but at least the screens look nice. Any Clive Barker fans out there hoping <em>Jericho</em> will keep them up at night?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/31/jericho-screens-to-give-you-nightmares/">Jericho screens to give you nightmares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Oct 2006 15:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/11386/Clive-Barkers-Jericho-Announced-First-Screenshots/">latest game</a> to bear his name and twisted influence is entitled <em>Cliver Barker's Jericho</em> and, thanks to the power of modern consoles, will likely feature the most realistic blood to ever grace your HDTV set.<br /><br />Joining hands with British developer Codemasters and gleefully skipping through the development graveyard, Mr. Barker claims that the project is very close to his heart and that he doesn't think "there's ever been anything like it." He goes on to label it as "the most spectacular, creative, and unflinching realization of a Clive Barker nightmare that will drag players in kicking and screaming." Even scarier is the fact that he now refers to himself in third-person, no doubt brought on by all those nightmares he's so keen on sharing with us. <br /><br />Tasked with wiping out an evil, umm, <em>evil</em>, players will have to deal with a lost city that's mysteriously reappeared in the desert, no doubt returning with its streets lined with all manner of monsters and unpleasantries. The initial screenshots look lovely, though "lovely" may not be the most appropriate word when describing a man with blades for hands, giant staples in his head and what appears to be a nasty case of Gingivitis. We don't particularly look forward to meeting him.<br /><br />If the superb <em>Clive Barker's Undying</em> is anything to go by, however, we do look forward to learning more about <em>Jericho</em>. It's out on next-generation consoles and PC sometime next year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/clive-barkers-jericho-announced-for-next-gen-consoles/">Clive Barker's Jericho announced for next-gen consoles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jul 2006 20:55:00 EST. It will be scary. Mr. Barker worked on <em>Undying</em>, a PC game from 2001 that was pretty darn creepy. Not to mention the Hellraiser and Candyman films. Should we lock our doors and keep all the lights on? Nah, where's the fun in that? Play this one during a windy night with the windows open and the curtains sweeping, in the dark. Naturally. That's part of what makes surround sound Silent Hill games so freakin'... freaky.<br /><br />Barker said over at IGN: "There are things in my imagination which I think can only be paintings, things that can only be books, and this thing has to be a game." Awesome, especially since the article pointed out how Barker was captivated with the ability of games to allow the gamer multiple paths and multiple endings. Movies and books are restricting in that manner. Basic gist of the game, according to Barker again, takes place in a town "like Russian dolls, spaces within each other, and trapped inside each space is a slice of time where the warriors of good have gone against ultimate evil and have lost." Sounds... <strike>vague</strike> interesting.<br /><br />Love Clive Barker? He promises to be involved every step of the way on this title. His previous work on a game called <em>Demonik</em>, has found itself stranded in <strike>purgatory</strike> mid-production. Hopefully this title won't make such action a trend.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/18/clive-barker-scary-guy-extraordinaire-makes-new-game/">Clive Barker, scary guy extraordinaire, makes new game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jul 2006 16:00:00 EST.
