After having released a grand total of zero games since its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/mtvs-next-big-thing-bruckheimer-teams-up-for-game-studio/">inception in 2007</a>, Jerry Bruckheimer Games is "no longer a functioning entity," a Bruckheimer Films representative is quoted as saying.<br /><br />Prior to this, the last we'd heard of Jerry's incubation chamber was way back in 2011, when rumors spread that the studio was working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/rumor-jerry-bruckheimer-games-working-on-three-titles/">three different titles</a>. No games or projects, however, were ever officially announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/report-jerry-bruckheimer-games-closed/">Report: Jerry Bruckheimer Games closed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 21:00:00 EST. We haven't heard much about Jerry Bruckheimer Games -- the company set up to make interactive software under the direction of the legendary film producer -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/jerry-bruckheimer-games-explodes-onto-scene-halo-3-exec-on-boar/">since it was formed</a>, but it apparently has been hard at work on something ... or <em>things</em>. A resume from a former employee of the company, <a href="http://www.justinleader.com/Justin_Leaders_Site/Main.html">Justin Leader</a>, says that Bruckheimer's label is (or at least <em>was</em>) developing "3 major unannounced video games, including Xbox and PS3 products."<br />
<br />
That's quite a slate for <a href="http://jbgames.com/">a company that hasn't officially announced</a> or released anything.
<meta charset="utf-8" />
Jerry Bruckheimer Games has previously said that it would be working on original IPs. The one thing we can definitely assume: They all have (or had) protagonists who <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqz5dbs5zmo">slowly walk away from explosions</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/rumor-jerry-bruckheimer-games-working-on-three-titles/">Rumor: Jerry Bruckheimer Games working on three titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 21:00:00 EST. Though Jerry Bruckheimer's latest opus, a film adaptation of <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>, wasn't received with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/31/prince-of-persia-movie-opens-with-30-2m-domestically/">commercial fanfare in the U.S.</a> (it's only pulled in about $80 million domestically), it's fared far better overseas. According to <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=princeofpersia.htm">Box Office Mojo</a>, the movie's received worldwide earnings of $293 million, making it the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation to date. <br />
<br />
The previous holder of this prestigious title was the original <em>Tomb Raider</em> film, which currently stands at <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=tombraider.htm">$274 million</a> worldwide. We're overjoyed that <em>Prince of Persia</em> managed to surpass this record -- mainly because, hey, it's about time someone took Jon Voight down a peg or two.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/22/prince-of-persia-becomes-highest-grossing-video-game-based-movie/">Prince of Persia becomes highest grossing video game-based movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 16:00:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>IMDB has updated its projected totals for the weekend box office to include the Memorial Day holiday, increasing ticket totals of <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> from $30.2 million to $37.8 million for the four-day weekend. The increase pushes the video game-based flick to second place ahead of <em>Sex and the City 2</em>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Original:</strong> If you only considered its current <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/princeofpersia?q=prince%20of%20persia">Metacritic</a> ranking, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a> could be called the first disaster movie of the summer season. According to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/chart/">IMDb</a>, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced time manipulation romp cracked third place in the US with $30.2 million in its opening weekend, behind first-place <em>Shrek Forever After</em> ($43.3 million) and <em>Sex and the City 2</em><em>: </em><strike><em>Electric Boogaloo</em></strike> with $32.1 million.<br />
<br />
While Bruckheimer may have been wishing for <em>Pirates of the Caribbean</em>-style opening numbers, <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?view=openings&amp;id=videogameadaptation.htm&amp;p=.htm">Box Office Mojo</a> reports that <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> is the third largest box office opening ever for a video game-based film. <em>Lara Croft: Tomb Raider </em>and <em>Pokemon: The First Movie</em>, currently own the first and second spot respectively in that <em>extremely</em> specific category.<br />
<br />
Internationally the <em>Prince</em> fared better, bringing in $59 million from overseas theaters and <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i41595b3b7aad282d5b29433fb0603e13">capturing first place</a>. So far, <em>The Sands of Time</em> has earned a total of $87.5 in the two weeks it has been released overseas.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Even with James Cameron's name attached to it, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatar"><em>Avatar</em></a> video game simply wasn't good. While a few games (<em>Goldeneye</em>, <em>Chronicles of Riddick</em>) manage to escape the "movie game curse," most licensed games are plagued by mediocrity. Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/"><em>Prince of Persia</em> movie</a>, explained to <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27965/Interview_Jerry_Bruckheimer_on_Game_Development_Prince_of_Persia_Why_Movie_Games_Fail.php">Gamasutra</a> that studios have "this business model where they know they'll sell X amount of games on that opening couple of weeks, and a lot of them do that, rather than take their time and create a wonderful game."</div>
<br />
While such a conclusion is probably obvious to the average Joystiq reader, it's vindicating to hear a high-profile producer admit to such industry shortcomings. Bruckheimer does offer a reasonable solution: release licensed games alongside their movie counterparts' home video releases to give them more development time. "As long as it's a good game, people will play it," concluded Bruckheimer.<br />
<br />
"The problem is, to really make a good game, it really takes a long time," explained Bruckheimer, whose <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jerry-bruckheimer-games/">game studio</a> is taking its sweet time (to even announce a title). "So by the time you green-light a movie, it's a year to a year-and-a-half until it's out. That's too short a period for a video game to be made. It's a three-year process to get a really good game made, and that's where they fail."<br />
<br />
Incidentally, Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a>, which is tangentially related to Bruckheimer's film, will release ten days before the movie, following just about two years of development time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/14/bruckheimer-explains-why-movie-games-fail/">Bruckheimer explains why movie games 'fail'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 14:01:00 EST. Regardless of how unfaithful it might end up being to its ludological source material, or how cheesy its dialogue is, or how poorly its actors perform, it's difficult for us not to get substantially excited by the two <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3153/">behind-the-scenes previews</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em><em>: The Sands of Time</em></a> we've posted above and after the jump. It looks to be, on all accounts, a Bruckheimer joint -- big, awesome and ... <em>uncerebral.</em> Like a big, clumsy elephant, riding a race car into a tornado made of swords. That's a spectacle we'll gladly drop $10.50 to witness once the film hits theaters May 28.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/">Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Apr 2010 13:30:00 EST. Make no mistake, we're interested in the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em> movie</a> for two reasons: Jake and Gyllenhaal. Saying otherwise is just a lie -- for some reason, some of you think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/prince-of-persia-vignette-has-lots-of-shirtless-gyllenhaal-neve/">worshipping the <em>Gyllemonster</em></a> is a <em>bad </em>thing? We don't understand it, but we're not judging<em> you</em>, are we?<br />
<br />
Here on Joystiq, we celebrate the roguish charm of the new wielder of the Sands of Time. And we welcome you to do the same by checking out the latest trailer past the break, courtesy of <a href="http://movies.ign.com/dor/objects/664420/prince-of-persia/videos/pop_mov_trl2_030110.html?show=hi">IGN</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/02/prince-of-persia-movie-trailer-full-of-slow-mo-enhaal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia movie trailer full of slow-mo-enhaal</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/02/prince-of-persia-movie-trailer-full-of-slow-mo-enhaal/">Prince of Persia movie trailer full of slow-mo-enhaal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Mar 2010 20:30:00 EST. We've been doing this Joystiq thing for a while now and, after sifting through years of traffic data, we think we finally know what you're all here for: shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal. It's okay, we're big fans of the guy's pecs, lats, abs, and peclatabs too. As such, we knew we had to post this behind-the-scenes look at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Prince-of-Persia-movie/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a>, not for its juicy interview bits nor to see the picturesque locales where the crew filmed, but for those few seconds of Gyllenhaal in all his shirtless glory. The video is right after the break. <em>You're entirely welcome, internet</em>.<br />

<br /> The <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> movie won't be in theaters until May 2010, but the marketing winds are already picking up with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/prince-of-persia-movie-trailer-looks-kind-of-good/">the release</a> of the first full-length trailer (above) -- and it looks ... <span style="font-style: italic;">kinda good</span>. What's more, the original game's creator, Jordan Mechner, has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/jordan-mechner-files-prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-trad/">filed an application</a> for the trademark, "Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands," suggesting that a new game could be in the works. More recent remarks, like those found in this Q&amp;A, seem to indicate that an announcement from Ubisoft is coming shortly.<br /><br />We attended a group Q&amp;A session with Mechner and movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer last week during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/impressions-prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-the-trailer/">unveiling of the trailer</a> and heard about the legacy of the franchise, casting of Jake Gyllenhaal, plans for a movie sequel, Easter eggs hidden on-screen, and hints of a new game. Leap across the break for the full discussion.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/">Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Film)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/#2419632"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/popsot03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/#2419633"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/popsot05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/#2419634"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/popsot07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/#2419635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/popsot08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-film/#2419636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/popsot04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/qanda-jordan-mechner-and-jerry-bruckheimer-on-the-pri/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Q&amp;A: Jordan Mechner and Jerry Bruckheimer on 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/qanda-jordan-mechner-and-jerry-bruckheimer-on-the-pri/">Q&amp;A: Jordan Mechner and Jerry Bruckheimer on 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 12:45:00 EST. <br /> The first official trailer for Jerry Bruckheimer's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia"><em>The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a> is now up for all the internet to see [update: we've added our embedded version above -- and read our in-depth analysis <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/impressions-prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-the-trailer/">right here</a>]. The long and short of it, it actually looks pretty good. Of course, the trailer is comprised mainly of quick cuts of action and narration filled with cliched adventure story tropes. Then again, as a video game adaptation, maybe that's to be expected.<br /> <br /> Still, there doesn't appear to be anything overtly <em>awful</em> just yet, so the hope is still alive. If Bruckheimer can turn a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pirates-of-the-caribbean"><em>theme park ride</em></a> into a successful film franchise, maybe, just maybe, he can do it with a game too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/prince-of-persia-movie-trailer-looks-kind-of-good/">Prince of Persia movie trailer looks ... kind of good</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 16:30:00 EST. We were invited out to Jerry Bruckheimer Films earlier this week to watch the trailer for <em>The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>. The good news? It looks like a Jerry Bruckheimer film. The bad news? Well, It looks like a Jerry Bruckheimer film. He's put together a formula that combines stars -- Jake Gyllenhaal, Alfred Molina, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley -- a lot of bombast and CGI. What usually comes out is a loud, boisterous film that makes a lot of money at the box office. Not that there's anything wrong with that!<br /><br />The only hitch is that it's a videogame adaptation, and those just never seem to turn out very well. It certainly doesn't help that Ben Kingsley, the one who starred in the ill-fated and ill-conceived film version of <em>BloodRayne</em>, has returned in another villainous role. Still, we have to admit that what we saw (reminder: just a trailer) looks to be an exciting jaunt through swashbuckling adventure. <br /><br />Read on for the highlights -- and take your time. The movie that doesn't come out until May 2010.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/impressions-prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-the-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Impressions: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (the trailer)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/impressions-prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-the-trailer/">Impressions: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (the trailer)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Oct 2009 09:30:00 EST. It seems that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-china">GDC China</a> attendees have more than just a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/video-games-live-heading-to-gdc-china/">Video Games Live performance</a> to look forward to, as it was announced today that <em>Prince of Persia</em> creator <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jordan-mechner">Jordan Mechner</a> will be keynoting the event. According to a <a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/ViewContent.aspx?ACCT=109&amp;STORY=/www/story/09-11-2009/0005092212&amp;EDATE=">release</a> issued today, the acclaimed designer will be speaking on "the success of the <em>Prince of Persia</em> series, as well as his own success as a game designer, programmer, and finally, director and screenwriter." You read that right, folks -- the man most recently penned Jerry Bruckheimer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie/">film adaptation of the <em>PoP</em> series</a>, among other screenplays. <br /><br />Unfortunately, those attending GDC China won't be getting the traditional, mandatory <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/shock-treatment-for-gaming-addicts-halted-in-china/">shock treatment</a> at the show, as that has been recently banned. For shame, China! Hopefully Mechner will be enough.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/prince-of-persia-creator-to-keynote-gdc-china-likely-in-english/">Prince of Persia creator to keynote GDC China (likely in English)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Sep 2009 03:00:00 EST. Just when you thought you <em>finally</em> had the Jake Gyllenhaal / <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em> movie</a> collage <em>absolutely perfect</em>, <a href="http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=25420"><em>Empire</em> magazine</a> has to go and release shots like the one above. That's right, there he is again. With his shirt open. <em>Sopping wet</em>. Oh, Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) is there too (also wet). There's another one with the Prince on horseback too (again with the stupid Princess).<br /><br />But let's face it, the Gyllenhaal shrine will have to be re-done. From scratch.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/prince-of-persia-movie-pics-keep-getting-dreamier/">Prince of Persia movie pics keep getting dreamier</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 00:00:00 EST. <div align="left">You know that empty spot on the wall, right above your bed? It's time to fill it. We've seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/more-shirtless-jake-gyllenhaal-pictures-here/">behind-the-scenes images</a> of Jake Gyllenhaal as the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">Prince</a>. When we spoke with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second"><em>Split/Second</em></a> developer Black Rock Studio (a fully-owned subsidiary of Disney Interactive) at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/e3-2009">E3</a>, we asked if they felt like they'd stolen Jerry Bruckheimer's thunder, because the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/beware-of-falling-buildings-in-split-seconds-first-gameplay/">looks like</a> something we'd expect out of Jerry Bruckheimer game. Which is ironic, since Jerry Bruckheimer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/jerry-bruckheimer-games-explodes-onto-scene-halo-3-exec-on-boar/">recently confirmed</a> (after only a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/mtvs-next-big-thing-bruckheimer-teams-up-for-game-studio/">year and a half</a> wait) that he's forming Jerry Bruckheimer Games at MTV, not Disney.<br /><br />Paul Glancey at Black Rock told us, "Well, we used to say our inspirations were Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer movies ... now we just say Michael Bay movies. Good luck to him, whatever he does. Hopefully he'll be using <em>us</em> as inspiration." Ba-ZING! Take that, Bruckheimer! We're sure you'll feel that sting as you swim around Scrooge McDuck-style in your giant pool full of gold coins.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/split-second-developer-black-rock-disses-jerry-bruckheimer/">Split/Second developer Black Rock disses Jerry Bruckheimer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 17:59:00 EST. MTV and Hollywood movie baron <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jerry-bruckheimer/">Jerry Bruckheimer</a> made their union official this morning, lifting the 17-month shroud of secrecy off their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/mtvs-next-big-thing-bruckheimer-teams-up-for-game-studio/">joint venture</a>, oh-so-creatively dubbed Jerry Bruckheimer Games. The new studio will be steered by former Microsoft exec and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-3">Halo 3</a></em> executive producer, Jim Veevaert, as the company's president of production. Veevaert will share the wheel with Jay Cohen, who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/02/rumor-ubisoft-exec-takes-job-at-mtv-jerry-bruckheimer-game-vent/">joined the studio in March</a>, his role now revealed as the company's president of development.<br /><br />What Cohen and company will be developing exactly, however, remains a mystery, with the studio saying only that it will create original IPs that "convey and reflect the high standards of entertainment value set by Jerry Bruckheimer." For fans of shaky cams and explosions, one thing's for certain -- finally there's a studio out there with your best interests at heart.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/jerry-bruckheimer-games-explodes-onto-scene-halo-3-exec-on-boar/">Jerry Bruckheimer Games explodes onto scene, Halo 3 exec on board </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 May 2009 07:30:00 EST. It's been quite some time since we've heard anything from the folks behind the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em> movie</a> adaptation. Lucky for us, the film's producer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Jerry-Bruckheimer">Jerry Bruckheimer</a> recently decided to let some footage of the film slip during an interview (found after the break).<br /><br />When asked what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Jake-Gyllenhaal">Jake Gyllenhaal</a> brings to the film, Bruckheimer says, "Well, he's very handsome." That being said, consider this an early warning for you and your elderly mother -- shot after shot of those stunning pecs and that dastardly smile could result in some unfortunate medical complications. Jay Cohen, who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/01/north-american-ubisoft-exec-jay-cohen-departs/">recently left</a> his position as North American VP of publishing at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">Ubisoft</a>, is apparently taking the reigns of MTV and Jerry Bruckheimer's ever-gestating video game initiative. <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/03/jay-cohen-running-jerry-bruckheimers-video-game-company.html">The Cut Scene</a> reports that "numerous sources" have confirmed that Cohen has taken a job at the studio formed by the two media giants.<br /><br />This is actually the first murmuring we've heard about the joint venture since it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/mtvs-next-big-thing-bruckheimer-teams-up-for-game-studio/">announced 15 months ago</a>. Jerry Bruckheimer's latest movie, Confessions Of A Shopaholic, premieres next month and ... wait, where are you going? This might actually interest you. Halfway through the movie you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the poster art for Bruckheimer's 2010 take on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia"><em>Prince of Persia</em></a>. According to <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/01/25/jerry-bruckheimer-debuts-prince-of-persia-poster-within-his-own-film-confessions-of-a-shopoholic/">MTV</a>, the previously unseen artwork shows up during a scene in Times Square and features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie">Jake Gyllenhaal</a> in full costume. <br /><br />Surely, that's well worth going to see a movie with "Shopaholic" in the title. The perfect way to pull in the young, male gaming audience.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/prince-of-persia-movie-poster-debuts-in-confessions-of-a-shopah/">Prince of Persia movie poster debuts in 'Confessions Of A Shopaholic'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 09:10:00 EST. In a scene half-way through <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1093908/">Shopaholic</a></em>, the new <em>Prince of Persia</em> poster - not the supposedly leaked version you see here - will be on display in the background in Times Square.<br /><br />According to the report, the new poster will feature star Jake Gyllenhaal in full-costume as Prince Dastan (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/gyllenhaal-freezes-time-becomes-prince-of-persia/">remember</a>, they named him for the film, for some reason). Jerry Bruckheimer's <em>Prince of Persia</em> adaptation has picked up two more high-profile actors. Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley have been cast, according to <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117986761.html?categoryid=13&amp;cs=1">Variety</a>. They join the previously announced Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arteron who play Dastan, the 6th-century Persian prince, and Tamina, respectively. <br /><br />Molina will portray Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to Dastan and shows him how to use <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Octopus#Film">metallic tentacle arms</a> to his advantage. Kingsley's role is currently unknown, though <a href="http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/06/03/alfred-molina-and-ben-kingsley-join-prince-of-persia/">/Film</a> is predicting he'll portray the villain Vizier (that's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/prince-of-persia-creator-talks-film-adaptation-pitching-project/">assuming they retain</a> any of the <em>PoP</em> storyline). Although the casting of the prince is complete, we're still hoping actor, swordfighter and actual Persian prince <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/survey-favors-persian-prince-for-prince-of-persia-role/">David Zandi</a> uses his magical time-bending dagger to somehow nab the lead role.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.cinematical.com/2008/06/03/alfred-molina-and-ben-kingsley-join-prince-of-persia/">Cinematical</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/alfred-molina-ben-kingsley-join-prince-of-persia-film-adaptation/">Alfred Molina, Ben Kingsley join Prince of Persia film adaptation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 14:25:00 EST. Though we yearn to say otherwise, Disney's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">Prince of Persia</a>: Sands of Time </em>film hasn't shown to be particularly adept at running the gauntlet. Coupling mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/04/bruckheimer-might-change-prince-of-persia-time-period/">involvement</a> with director Mike Newell's promise (of having his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/"><em>assistant</em> play through</a> the game) leads us to believe that the crew has fallen into the very first pit and succumbed to one of those spinning blade thingies.<br /><br />Still, we'd best give them a chance to finish shooting in Morocco this June, which <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981952.html?categoryId=13&amp;cs=1"><em>Variety</em></a> notes will have a positive effect on the North African film business. Scenes for the Jeffrey Nachmanoff- and Jordan Mechner-written project will also be filmed at the UK's Pinewood Shepperton studios. Cross your fingers and hope for something more than a literal explosion of bullet-time sword fights, churlish chariot chases and liberal lingering on Farah's faucets.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/prince-of-persia-heads-to-morocco-for-film-shoot/">Prince of Persia heads to Morocco for film shoot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 22:00:00 EST. If you're curious to know how <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/princeofpersia">Prince of Persia</a> </em>became a film, series creator and movie screenwriter Jordan Mechner spoke <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/jordan-mechner-jerry-bruckheimer-talk-prince-of-persia-movie/71338/?biz=1">with GameDaily</a> to talk about how he went about pitching the idea to Disney, who told him he needed a producer like Jerry Bruckheimer, and then how he took that to mean "pitch to Jerry Bruckheimer" and subsequently won him over. Mechner described writing the screenplay as a 21-month process (three months for first draft, 18 months of revisions), "not counting the 15 years of preparation before that," he said.<br /><br />Said Mechner about changes from the game's plot, "If I'd tried to adapt the game's storyline beat for beat into a screenplay, we would have wound up with a 'B'-level survival-horror movie about a warrior prince who spends most of his time fighting off ravaging, zombie-like sand creatures -- basically, <em>Resident Evil</em> in the desert." Did he just call the <em>Resident Evil</em> films B-level? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/oh-snap-chart-.jpg">Oh snap</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/prince-of-persia-creator-talks-film-adaptation-pitching-project/">Prince of Persia creator talks film adaptation, pitching project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 14:30:00 EST. MTV wasn't kidding when the company said it had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/mtv-spending-500-million-on-games-in-next-two-years/">$500 million to blow</a> in two years. Their "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/mtv-games-hints-at-next-big-thing-announcement-coming-soon/">next big thing</a>" is this: Hollywood mega-&uuml;ber producer Jerry Bruckheimer has signed a deal to produce games with MTV. Bruckheimer and MTV will create a co-owned studio that, instead of cashing in on the latest summer 'splosion smash, is actually expected to create new intellectual properties; the movie studios typically own the rights to the films Bruckheimer produces. Games produced by this new studio will feature Bruckheimer's name prominently (for example: <em>Jerry Bruckheimer presents Mega-explosion FPS Ninja Pirate Adventure 4</em>).<br /><br />There are currently no announced games; no particular genres defined for the new studio; heck, there isn't even a name yet. At this point, Bruckheimer wants to make games and, historically, wherever Bruckheimer goes, success isn't far behind. And neither are <em>explosions</em>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117977949.html?categoryid=14&amp;cs=1">Read</a> - Variety: Bruckheimer goes gaming in MTV pact<br /><a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/jerry-bruckheimer-launches-game-studio-with-mtv-games/18909/?biz=">Read</a> - GameDaily: Bruckheimer launches studio with MTV<br /><a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/12/19/jerry-bruckheimer-announces-game-development-deal-with-mtv-breaks-it-down-for-multiplayer/">Read</a> - MTV: Bruckheimer interview<br /><a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/12/19/mtv-exec-talks-bruckheimer-future-of-mtv-games-were-making-some-big-bets/">Read</a> - MTV: MTV Games' Jeff Yapp interview<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/mtvs-next-big-thing-bruckheimer-teams-up-for-game-studio/">MTV's "next big thing": Bruckheimer teams up for game studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Dec 2007 00:40:00 EST. Mike Newell had only been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/harry-potter-director-offered-prince-of-persia-reigns/">at the helm</a> of the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PrinceofPersia/">Prince of Persia</a></em> movie for five days when he started insisting that it was a great story first, and a video game movie .. well, not at all. "It's not a video game movie," Newell told Rotten Tomatoes. "It's a great story. If you had read the script, you would know that it wasn't a video game. It's very exciting and it's immensely romantic and it's like <em>Lost Horizon</em>. It takes you to somewhere you've never been." <br /><br />Sure, that doesn't fill us with loads of confidence, but if you consider the "video game movie" canon, we can't blame him for wanting to distance his film from that pile of wickedness. Besides, if you're worried about him staying true to the series, Rotten Tomatoes reports he "has an assistant playing the video games to brief him on key details" ... so you're completely justified in your concern. Well done.<br /><br />[Thanks, Hashbrown_Hunter]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/">Newell: Prince of Persia 'not a video game movie'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2007 10:05:00 EST.
