Dinosaurs are inherently awesome, but history has proven that adding certain things to dinosaurs tends to make them way more awesome. Skateboards make dinosaurs more awesome, particularly when they come with a guitar. Pairing dinosaurs up with bipedal, vulpine space pilots? Super awesome. TreeFortress Games' platformer JumpJet Rex, currently in Early Access on Steam, postulates that a run-and-jump space adventure will rule provided it stars a dinosaur wearing jetpack boots. Joystiq is intrigued to see if they are correct.

The fact that you also want to see Elite: Dangerous, the long-in-development sequel to David Braben's foundational open world space simulator, is just icing on the cake. Sure you'll get to see what it's like to duke it out in tense spaceship dogfights. But what really matters is that you'll see Xav de Matos (@Xav), bobbing his head back and forth to an invisible rhythm like he's listening to some phantom TLC album, playing the game on an Oculus Rift.

After more than two years of wondering when Nintendo would finally do the obvious thing, embrace modernity, and allow games for the Wii be downloaded directly from the Internet into the Wii U, it delivered. Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch-Out!!, and Metroid Prime Trilogy are the very first Wii games downloadable from the eShop. The latter two won't be available until later this month, but since Joystiq never turns down an opportunity to explore mini-planetoids and options for force-feeding dinosaurs hot peppers, we're going to check out Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Joystiq Streams.

Our understanding is that these releases haven't been changed in any significant way, but Nintendo's digital releases always include odd quirks. For example, who expected the Virtual Console version of Metroid Fusion to include a full color reproduction of the instruction manual? We'll see what secrets may be hidden in Galaxy 2.

The last time Joystiq played Evolve, it didn't go very well. We had plenty of fun hunting each other down, leveling up the respective hunter classes, and trying to be a good and proper monster. It's just that we weren't very good. Eggs defeated us. Eggs! Defeat at the hands of a gradually growing beast is one thing, but crumbling in the face of unborn beasts is too ignoble a fate for Joystiq. So we're getting back in there. Those eggs won't even know what hit them.

Halo is on the brain this December. We're chock full of conflicting emotions about Master Chief, personable AI, and the many ancient technology entanglements they find themselves snared in. Revisiting all of Chief's tales in the Master Chief Collection reminded us just how awesome Halo campaigns can be. That said, the plague of matchmaking problems in that anthology caused some serious negative connotations to attach themselves to Halo multiplayer in our brains. What we need is a palate cleanser! A view of the future, not the past. The Halo 5: Guardians beta will be our virtual sorbet.

Do not go gentle into that zombie fight/shambling corpses should burn and rave at close of day/Rage, rage against the hordes of Dying Light.

Techland has been working on the zombie apocalypse train for years now, determined to make the best possible open world overrun with stumbling undead freaks they possibly can. What started as a third Dead Island game became something else entirely when they realized just how big and parkour-ready a world they were building. When Dying Light became its own beast, though, Techland was forced to delay it nearly a full year. While the game's still not done, Joystiq does have its hands on a preview version of the game, and we're ready to rage against the dying. Or the dead, as the case may be.

Nine months have passed since X-COM creator Julian Gollop swung by Joystiq Streams to play a prototype version of Chaos Reborn, his new versus strategy game. Much has changed! For starters, the game no longer looks like a crazy Tron-ified tabletop RPG session, all black backgrounds and neon beasts. The game hit Steam Early Access this week and it looks full, with rich art and refined multiplayer action. Of course, Alexander Sliwinski (@Sliwinski) has also become a more cunning opponent in the intervening months! Time for a rematch.

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have, for all their technological advancements, returned the gaming world to a place few expected it would go: the land for the down port. Way back when, PC and arcade games too beefy for consoles would be adapted to run on older, less capable machines, hence why you'd end up with a version of Double Dragon on Commodore 64 that looks like it's made of wood chips or Atari Donkey Kong. With games coming to both Xbox One and PS4 as well as their predecessors, Xbox 360 and PS3, the art of the down port has come back to the fore.

The question, then: What happens to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, so reliant on its processor-pushing Nemesis system, when it's crammed into the nearly decade-old Xbox 360? Let's find out!

We knew it was coming. Of course it was coming. As soon as Rockstar said that Grand Theft Auto 5 would be coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, the writing was on the wall. The very face of sandbox gaming would blow out the final days of last gen's consoles and be reborn in ample time on the coming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Maybe it was a little surprising to see it announced at E3 2014, not even a full year after its initial release, but there was never any doubt that Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online would come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

What was surprising, however, was the announcement that this version of the game would officially support a first-person mode. Modders plopped it into the game last summer, but now Rockstar's built it in properly.

"Inquisition is also developer BioWare's redemption song. It's everything that a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins should have been, and time will slip by as players enjoy the hundred hours of escapades it delivers."

After a week straight of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Joystiq Streams, we've been thinking seriously about the land of first-person shooters. With our palate overwhelmed by Microsoft's genre-defining series, we find ourselves in need of something stranger. Something a little bit different. So we'll be playing Bedlam, a dollop of science fiction weirdness based on a novel by Chris Brookmyre (@cbrookmyre) and developed by RedBedLam. We'll be playing alongside RedBedLam's Steve Finn and Kerry Fraser-Robinson, not to mention doling out some Steam codes for the game. Does the game literally journey through the visual history of FPSes? You bet.

Were the Covenant not a wholly fictional race of militaristic, lizardy zealots, Joystiq would ask their leaders a very simple question: Why do you use Grunts in your military? Cannon fodder is one thing, but in terms of strategic value, they don't seem to add a whole hell of a lot to either offensive or defensive capabilities. Given, their little squeals are hilarious and no doubt boost morale in training, but that cannot possibly be the only reason. It just doesn't make sense!

To study this behavior further, Joystiq is streaming one last chunk of Halo: The Master Chief Collection at 4:00PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. If we're lucky, we may even get in some hot multiplayer action.

If there's one thing we know about Halo 4, it's that it has the single best selection of butts in any shooter ever made. Say what you will about 343's take on classic Halo multiplayer, its expansion of the series' plot, or Spartan Ops. No other FPS in the history of FPSes can compete with the derrieres of Halo 4, from the Spartan Ops marines, to Cortana, to old Master Chief himself. The question we've been asking ourselves for months, though, is this: what do those butts look like at 60fps? We'll find out today on Joystiq Streams.

Call of Duty went from straight faced aping of Saving Private Ryan to an annually updated sport married to Roland Emmerich-ian spectacle. From storming Normandy to rocket packs and Kevin Spacey. How did we get here?

We've run the horror gamut during our Halloween Horror Streams extravaganza. We've done old school, we've done new school, we've done zombie apocalypse and haunted zeppelin and even camp. What we haven't done, however, is pit a member of the staff against a game that originally scared them so much they had to quit.

To close out our Halloween celebration, we're pitting Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK) against Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The last time he played Amnesia, he lasted about five minutes and had to stop. One school of logic says that cumbersome controls makes horror games scarier. Resident Evil's tank controls, for example, may not let you walk with the natural fluidity of a real person, but they do often force you to fearfully, slowly back away from zombies rather than flat out turning around and bolting. It worked in the original. Some games, though, are just plain broken. Case in point: Rule of Rose.

Punchline's first and only horror game is barely playable thanks to its broken interface. Trying to stab an evil puppet with a spoon and never connecting isn't scary. It's stupid. Like some of gaming's greats, Rule of Rose almost overcomes its bad control through sheer style. Bad controls or not, it is a deeply unsettling game.

Shadow of Mordor isn't a scary game. Building up pressure in high stakes scenarios is something it excels at, but making with the scares? Not these orcs. Developer Monolith Productions probably just needed a break, though. It's coming off a decade of smart, very scary games. Condemned: Criminal Origins looms large among them. One of the very first games out there for Xbox 360, Condemned's murder mystery still has power, hence why it's a perfect selection for our Halloween Horror Streams.

Resident Evil's amazing remake is coming back in HD next year. The Evil Within made us remember Resident Evil 4's raw magic. Next year's brand new Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has us reflecting on Code Veronica's gothic madness. But where is the love for Resident Evil 2, that slice of brilliance which moved the original's haunted house horror into the big city? It had intersecting campaigns! It had giant, un-killable freaks in trench coats and people with spiky tongues and exposed brains! A young lady's father grew an eyeball on his arm! Then an alligator shows up for no good reason. It's one of the best horror games ever made. It put director and Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya on the map.

Starting at 4:00PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch we'll be streaming Resident Evil 2 from the start. Leon meets Claire. Claire wears a weird leotard. Leon wears football shoulder pads for no reason. It's great.
