Joyswag: Call of Booty: Modern Wardrobe

The thing about luxury is that you can never have too much of it. Already picked up Modern Warfare 2? Of course you did -- but so what? Have another! Joystiq is giving away a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox 360 and, of course, that's not all ... We're including an exceedingly schweet Astro Gaming A40 Sound System complete with headset, mixamp and Modern Warfare 2 speaker tags.

But wait! In order to make this giveaway truly Hef-worthy, we're also tossing in a -- neatly folded -- plush robe and pair of slippers (pipe not included), which are both embroidered with Modern Warfare 2 logos. This ultimate lap-of-luxury set could be yours by following the rules for entry below:
  • Leave a comment telling us what your preferred gaming attire is.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec).
  • Limit 1 entry per person.
  • This entry period ends at 12:00PM ET on Thursday, November 12.
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game for Xbox 360 ($59.99 ARV), an Astro Gaming A40 Sound System ($249.95 ARV) and a Modern Warfare 2, one-size-fits-all robe and slipper set ($50.00 ARV).

And the winner of the Pumpkin Carving Contest is ...

It was a hard fought battle with 120 contenders, but the grand prize winner of Joystiq's Annual-ish Pumpkin Carving Contest 2009 is ... Antonio F.! His conceptualization of the Worgen starting zone from the upcoming WoW: Cataclysm expansion is one of the most impressive gourd-based works of art we've ever seen. We imagine you guys feel the same way -- this pumpkin placed first in the poll by a huge margin, garnering 3,303 votes!

The first prize winner, with 2,309 votes, is Dennis C.'s equally well-rendered rendition of the Borderlands box art, which we've posted after the jump. Congratulations, you two -- and a heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to send in their lovingly crafted Jack O' Masterpieces! We'll be emailing the winners shortly to inform them about receiving their bounty; for the rest of you, have an unbelievably happy Halloween!

Update: And the winner is ...

First, thank you to everyone who submitted a pumpkin carving for this year's contest -- you rock! Brilliant work. Now, after making many difficult cuts, the Joystiq staff has narrowed down the entries to the ten finalists you see above.

(Note: Each thumbnail is linked to a larger image and description of the finalist posted after the break; when clicked, these larger images link to the even larger, full-size versions in our gallery.)

Since we couldn't possibly decide on our own, please help us to select this year's winner:

The finalist with the most votes after a 24-hour period will be selected to win our grand prize. The finalist with the second-most votes will take first prize. Thanks for voting!

Reminder: Carve pumpkins, win video games

Entry #27 by Brian W.

Update: The entry period has closed.

It's a shame the CDC shut down our plans for a giant bobbing for games contest. It was going to be epic. In its place, however, we launched a totally rad pumpkin carving contest. Not only do we get to enjoy the skilled craftwork of the Joystiq Biomass, we also get to keep the prizes nice and dry, and reduce the spread of waterborne illness bred in the saliva of icky gamers. That goes down as a win-win-win situation in our book.

Reminder: You have until 12:00PM ET Friday, October 30, (two days!) to submit images of your game-related pumpkin carvings to: contest@joystiq.com. Click here for the basic guidelines for entry. (Official rules.)

Have a look at the competition and keep the entries coming:

Joyswag: Get your exercise on with Wii Fit Plus & Active Life Extreme Challenge

As we approach the colder months of the year here at Joystiq HQ, we like to fool ourselves by picking up the latest Wiinovations in the world of game-based exercise equipment, knowing wholeheartedly that they'll never end up getting much use. This year, however, we figured we would extend that same ideological principle to you. We hope that your moral certitude will employ Wii Fit Plus and Active Life Extreme Challenge (it's totally extreme) more than we would! We'll be picking a winner for this enticing exercise pack at random from the folks who comment below -- all you have to do is tell us your favorite exercise fad of all time. Get those finger muscles moving!
  • Leave a comment telling us your favorite exercise fad of all time.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, largely due to Celine Dion)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 2:31PM ET on Monday, November 2
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive a copy of Wii Fit Plus ($20 ARV) and Active Life Extreme Challenge ($60 ARV)
  • For a list of complete rules, click here

Swag Saturday: Spoils from Capcom's Fight Club

After getting beaten handily by the folks attending Capcom's NYC Fight Club this week, we were given the tagged black bag you see above, full of consolation prizes (for our bruised egos). Being the good sports we are though, we're giving away everything we got directly to you for this week's Swag Saturday prize. From the fancy event art to the always important Tatsunoko vs. Capcom towel, this goodie bag comes packed full of semi-exclusive swag. To get your hands on it, all you have to do is leave a comment below telling us who your favorite Street Fighter character of all time is. We'll pick one of you at random next week to receive the goods. In the meantime, we'll be over here, putting that bruised ego on ice.
  • Leave a comment telling us who your favorite Street Fighter character of all time is.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, mostly because of the Moon's position in relation to the Earth)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 9:01PM ET on Sunday, October 25
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive a bag of Capcom Fight Club swag (estimated $30 ARV)
  • For a list of complete rules, click here

Joyswag: Carve a pumpkin, win a pile-o'-games

Image credit: Takayoshi Sugawara; 2007 contestant

Update: The entry period has closed.

It's that time of the year again -- when it's OK to show some video game spirit. Like, a lot of spirit. In between sewing your man-sized Peach dress and gluing together that Spartan Laser, why not take a break to do some carving?

That's right, welcome to The 2009 Joystiq Pumpkin Carving Contest! Submit pictures of your video game-themed pumpkin carvings for a chance to win a pile of games. Just follow the 8 simple rules after the break.

Update:
We're posting entries in the gallery below (note: finalists will be selected and featured in a separate gallery). Peep the competition:

Swag Saturday: Katamari Forever and Warhawk (PS3)

In an effort to keep lowering our continuously growing stack of Swag Saturday giveaway prizes, this week we're offering a seemingly random combination of Katamari Forever and Warhawk. Our reasoning seemed sound at the time: give the Joystiq BioMass™ something old and something new, nothing borrowed, and no one will be blue.

...

Okay, so we just wanted to give away a couple of PS3 games and those were the first two that we picked up. Are you happy? Are you?! Tell us exactly how happy you are with this week's swag selection in the comments below (negativity and snark will get you nowhere!) and we'll pick one of you at random to receive both games.
  • Leave a comment telling us exactly how happy you are with this week's swag selection.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, presumably due to an aberration in the Large Hadron Collider)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 9:01PM ET on Sunday, October 18
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive Katamari Forever ($50 ARV) and Warhawk ($30 ARV)
  • For a list of complete rules, click here

Joyswag: Brutal Legend and Eddie Riggs statue

If you check your calendar of ridiculous marketing dates, you'll likely see that today is Rocktober 13th, the very date foretold by the Great Marketing Powers of EA upon which Brütal Legend would be released. [Ed: It's also Twofer Tuesday at your local pizzeria ...]. To celebrate the one-off holiday, we're giving away a copy of the game on Xbox 360 and two limited edition (only 1000 ever made) Eddie Riggs statues. The grand prize winner gets the game and the statue while the runner-up will have to make do with just the statue. To enter:
  • Leave a comment letting us who would win in a rock god free-for-all: Ozzy? Rob Halford? Lemmy?
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec which, historically, has long feared the metal.)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 7:01PM ET on Friday, October 16
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive a copy of Brutal Legend on Xbox 360 ($60 ARV) and a limited edition Eddie Riggs statue ($100 ARV); and another winner to receive just the limited edition Eddie Riggs statue ($100 ARV)

Swag Saturday: Final Fantasy spinoff pack (PSP)

If you're like us, you're ready for The Future of Digital Entertainment™ and want to get rid of all that silly, antiquated physical media still laying around the house. We're using some for coasters (something's gotta hold our Zima!), some for Halloween treats later this month, and some for Swag Saturday giveaways.

We're hoping that you're not like us and are instead hungrily searching for your chance to win a copy of both Dissidia Final Fantasy and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (on UMD, of course). Leave a comment below letting us what you're going to do with your physical media when the future is upon us and there's no turning back. We'll choose one winner at random after the comments are closed 24 hours from now. See you in the future!
  • Leave a comment letting us what you're going to do with your physical media when the future is upon us and there's no turning back.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, presumably based on the longstanding feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 7:01PM ET on Sunday, October 11
  • At that time, we'll randomly select one winner to receive Dissidia Final Fantasy ($40 ARV) and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII ($20 ARV)
  • For a list of complete rules, click here
