Or ... not really combat with <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/puddle"><em>Puddle</em></a>.<br /><br />You can also download <em>Madden NFL 12</em> -- just in time for the Super Bowl! Not that you'll be playing <em>Madden</em> while the game is on, of course. That release joins a trio of IO Interactive games newly available for download: both <em>Kanes &amp; Lynches</em> and <em>Mini Ninjas</em>. Find everything available this week on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/01/31/playstation-store-update-224/">PlayStation Blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/psn-tuesday-twisted-metal-demo-puddle-madden/">PSN Tuesday: Twisted Metal demo, Puddle, Madden</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 23:36:00 EST. As part of Xbox LIve's "Countdown to 2011," today's deal is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/16/review-lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light/">excellent</a> downloadable title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light/"><em>Lara Croft &amp; the Guardian of Light </em></a>at 50 percent off, which means the co-op adventure can be yours for 600 Microsoft Points (that's $7.50). That's quite inexpensive for some time with Lady Croft. We'd say "cheap," but she ain't cheap.<br />
<br />
Also available today is the free <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Kane-Lynch-Character-Pack/bbaf8feb-ad38-4b7f-bc8f-76c2791402ae"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em> character pack</a> for <em>Guardian of LIght</em>. Don't ask questions, just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/kane-and-lynch-and-kain-and-raziel-buddy-up-in-lara-croft-and-the-gu/">let the weird wash over you</a>.<br />
<br />
Finally, there's a dose of randomness with a pet monkey for your Avatar, half off for 120 MSP ($1.50). "He's not horrible. He's lovely. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dP9D5cBJDE">He's a lovely little monkey</a>."<br />

Ever wondered what playing through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light"><em>Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light</em></a> would be like if Lara was Adam 'Kane' Marcus and Totec was James Seth Lynch, eponymous characters of the <em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em> series? According to a hack of the PC version that popped up on YouTube - along with a helpful confirmation straight from developer Crystal Dynamics' Twitter account - soon enough you'll be able to experience such bizarreness firsthand as both characters will be available for download at some point in the future (remember: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/06/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light-plunders-ps3-steam-on-sep/">before the end of 2010</a>).<br />
<br />
Also revealed was <em>that other Kane</em> from CrystalD's past: Kain and Raziel (of <em>Legacy of Kain</em> series fame) will be the second character pack. Names are also put to the second and third content expansions: "Things That Go Boom" (number two) and "Hazardous Reunion" (number three). PS3 owners can actually buy the second pack right now, as of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/psn-tuesday-spelunker-hd-pac-man-championship-dx-so-much-more/">last week's update</a>. The YouTube clip after the break shows a bit of our old friends Kain and Raziel in action ... for the first time in <em>seven years</em>. Quick, someone explain YouTube to them!<br />
<br />
[Note: Crystal Dynamics is asking fans to tweet their choice for which character pack should come first. Instead, we're going to ask you to decide in our totally scientific poll, just below.]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/kane-and-lynch-and-kain-and-raziel-buddy-up-in-lara-croft-and-the-gu/#poll56348">View Poll</a></p><br type="_moz" /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/kane-and-lynch-and-kain-and-raziel-buddy-up-in-lara-croft-and-the-gu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kane &amp; Lynch and Kain &amp; Raziel buddy up in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/kane-and-lynch-and-kain-and-raziel-buddy-up-in-lara-croft-and-the-gu/">Kane &amp; Lynch and Kain &amp; Raziel buddy up in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 16:02:00 EST. Following the inexplicable trend of movies based on video games getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo,%20movie">totally derailed</a> before they even start filming, it seems the once-certain production of <em>Kane and Lynch</em> has become ... decidedly less so. <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/09/kane-lynch-bruce-willis-patrick-alessandrin-videogame-movie.html">LA Times reports</a> that planned director Patrick Alessandrin (<em>District 13: Ultimatum</em>) is no longer behind the reins of the movie. As a result, the movie's shooting schedule, planned to start next month, has been delayed.<br />
<br />
A representative from Millennium Films confirmed that "the director has not been chosen" and that the film's "start date is TBD." If you're part of the ever-burgeoning community of high-profile film directors who read this site (what up, Spiels?), consider this your invitation to step in and save the day. That is, if you think you can handle the raw thespianic force of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/jamie-foxx-to-play-lynch-in-kane-and-lynch-film/">Willis/Foxx collaboration</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/kane-and-lynch-film-needs-a-new-director/">Kane and Lynch film needs a new director</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 20:30:00 EST. In my otherwise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/review-kane-and-lynch-2-dog-days/">totally accurate and insightful review of <em>Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days</em></a>, I mocked the couture of the game's villains. The public demo for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kane-and-lynch-2-dog-days"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2</em></a> -- requiring no <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/kane-and-lynch-2-demo-for-ps-users-on-july-20/">subscriptions</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/xbox-360-kane-and-lynch-2-demo-out-today-requires-code/">hoop jumping</a> -- will release sometime next week. The PlayStation 3 demo will go live <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/16/coming-tuesday-to-psn-kane-lynch-demo-for-ps3/">Tuesday, July 27</a>. As for the PC and Xbox 360 versions, um, Square Enix doesn't seem to be too sure, but the company line is "next week." The demos should be available in North America, Europe and other PAL territories.<br />
<br />
Kane and Lynch's <em>Dog Days</em> will start on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/13/kane-and-lynch-2s-dog-days-starting-a-week-earlier/">August 17 and 24</a> in North America and the PAL lands, respectively.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/23/kane-and-lynch-2-demo-assaults-the-public-next-week/">Kane &amp; Lynch 2 demo assaults the public next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Jul 2010 21:20:00 EST. Ah, but there is a catch: in order to gain access to the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch-2">Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</a> </em>demo, you'll have to send a message to the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/kaneandlynchofficial">Kane &amp; Lynch YouTube channel </a>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8">before 11am GMT on June 30 -- and obviously you'll need a YouTube account to do this. Simply put "Token Request" in the subject field and include your date of birth (another catch: gotta be 18 years or older!) and Xbox Live Gamertag in the message body and you're good to go!<br />
<br />
This is open to residents of the UK and northern Ireland only -- sorry, everybody else! Come July 1, keep an eye on your YouTube inbox for your unlock code. Oh, and take note that those who are already "friends" of the YouTube channel will get first dibs on the demo codes.<br />
<br />
Don't have an Xbox 360? Don't fret, because <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/exclusive-kane-lynch-2-demo-hitting-xbox-360-in-july-177526.phtml">Destructoid</a> spoke with an Eidos rep who confirmed that a "consumer demo" would be available on the PS3 and PC sometime in the future. The Xbox 360 demo is only exclusive to that platform for a limited time. <br />

The new mode is a lot like the Cops and Robbers gametype -- with a twist, of course. In this case, the cop is an undercover player who must stop (with license to kill) the criminals and secure the stolen money while maintaining the guise of a criminal himself.<br />
<br />
So yeah, it's the video game equivalent of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShM8bGKVFXg"><em>Donnie Brasco</em></a>. <br />

Are the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a> video games simply not enough to satiate your homicidal duo needs? Then draw pleasure in a new partnership between IO Interactive and DC Comics, which will spawn a limited comic run telling the origin stories of this reluctant duo produced by DC Wildstorm.<br />
<br />
The series will be written by Ian Edginton, who has been in the biz for over two decades, working on comics for Marvel, Dark Horse, Heavy Metal, Top Cow and, of course, DC. Chris Mitten will handle illustration duties, while Ben Templesmith will do the covers. <br />
<br />
The first issue releases this August, just in time for the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/kane-and-lynchs-dog-days-begin-on-august-24/">August 24</a> launch. Why, isn't that quite the coincidence?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/13/kane-and-lynch-comics-to-terrorize-newsstands-this-august/">Kane &amp; Lynch comics to terrorize newsstands this August</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 May 2010 17:00:00 EST. Proving beyond a doubt that the casting is a "done deal"(as tweeted by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/jamie-foxx-to-play-lynch-in-kane-and-lynch-film/">writer</a> Kyle Ward), Empire spotted a <em><a href="http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=27835">Kane &amp; Lynch</a></em> movie poster with billing for both Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx at the Cannes Film Festival. This poster covers the entrance to the Majestic Hotel, making it look a bit more like the Tacky Hotel.<br />
<br />
According to Empire, the poster gives the film a 2011 date, but we don't see it. Perhaps it's behind that inconsiderately placed luggage cart.<br />

I recently played a few rounds of its increasingly difficult, single-player Arcade game type (shown in the above video) before working together with (and against) fellow journos online and came away pretty impressed. In fact, it seemed more fun and polished than what Joystiq's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/hands-on-kane-and-lynch-2-dog-days-single-player/">played so far</a> of the game's single-player campaign.<br />
<br />
Here's the setup: Players start out on the same team -- the crooks -- and steal loot at the beginning of a round. Those who can make it past A.I. controlled cops in one piece (and get inside the getaway vehicle before it leaves) share a cut of the cash everyone's grabbed. But these aren't the most honest men you're playing as, so it's possible to turn traitor on your own gang -- even take other players as human shields -- and attempt to avoid death at their (and the cops') hands, in hopes of taking all the spoils for your own. For the first match or two I played, everyone worked together. After that, people started getting greedy.<br />

Now, we know that Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/games-on-demand">Games on Demand</a> costing $19.99 and $29.99 is nothing new, but we have to call into question the choice of that higher price point for two of the three newest games available via the service.<br />
<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/f0000001-0000-4000-8000-000055530810?cid=SLink"><em><br />

Three Hamiltons for <em>Far Cry 2</em>? That we can get behind. But the other two are definitely $20 fare, in our humble (professional) opinion. Especially since you can buy <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Far-Cry-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001ASJIRM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1272392398&amp;sr=8-1">all</a> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Kane-Lynch-Dead-Men-Xbox-360/dp/B000UUFQZE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1272392367&amp;sr=8-4">three</a> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Shrek-Third-Xbox-360/dp/B000NJFMRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1272392486&amp;sr=8-1">games</a> new for near that price from online retailers such as <a href="http://www.amazon.com/computer-video-games-hardware-accessories/b/ref=topnav_storetab_vg?ie=UTF8&amp;node=468642">Amazon</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/27/new-games-on-demand-added-questionably-priced/">New Games on Demand added, questionably priced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Apr 2010 16:40:00 EST. There were a number of interesting features -- complex characters, a dark, mature story that explored the seedy lives of criminals -- in IO Interactive's original <em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em>, provided you could look past the broken gameplay and the subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/05/gerstmann-gate-wednesday-update/">review scandal</a>. While the franchise's name may be forever tarnished, that hasn't stopped IO from developing a sequel, one that expands upon the best aspects of the original. But does <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch-2"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em></a> fix the gameplay inherited from its predecessor? Sort of.<br />
<br />
As our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/19/kane-and-lynch-2-dog-days-preview/">previous impressions</a> indicated, there's much to like about the game's presentation. Like <em>Dead Men</em> before it, <em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em> is certainly not short on style. The "digital camera" effect makes this shooter look unlike any other game I've seen, offering the illusion of reality. Upon closer inspection, you can see the graphics tech is far from cutting-edge, but the clever filters and camera techniques make <em>Dog Days</em> feel far more authentic than the photo-realistic approach most other games attempt.<br />

Here's a brain-teaser for you: What do <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shrek-the-third"><em>Shrek the Third</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a> all have in common? If you said "they all feature cartoon donkeys voiced by the stars of the <em>Beverly Hills Cop</em> series," you'd be correct. It's a little known fact that all three games contain flippant burros voiced by Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pinchot, respectively.<br />
<br />
Oh, also? They're all <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2010/04/20/ws952.aspx">coming to the Xbox Live Games on Demand</a> storefront on April 27. The price of each game hasn't been announced -- we've contacted Microsoft to see if we can figure out how much each game will cost. Also, we'll double-check about the donkeys, although we're <em>pretty</em> certain we're right about that one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/shrek-the-third-far-cry-2-and-kane-and-lynch-coming-to-games-on-d/">Shrek the Third, Far Cry 2 and Kane &amp; Lynch coming to Games on Demand</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 17:45:00 EST. According to the <a href="http://twitter.com/kyle_ward">Twitter account</a> of <em>Kane and Lynch</em> screenwriter Kyle Ward, it seems that Lynch will be played by Academy Award winning actor ... Jamie Foxx. <em>Huh?</em> Tweeting last night that it's a "Done deal ... Jamie Foxx is in," Ward outed the star of <em>Ray</em> as one half of the game adaptation's titular team (Bruce Willis is allegedly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/bruce-willis-in-talks-to-star-in-kane-and-lynch-film-adaptation/">signed on for the role of Kane</a>).<br />
<br />
When asked about whether Foxx would be playing Nathan Drake in the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/uncharted-drakes-fortune-movie-underway-at-columbia-pictures/">Uncharted</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/uncharted-drakes-fortune-movie-underway-at-columbia-pictures/"> film</a> (also being written by Ward, though he was said to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/23/rumor-uncharted-movie-gets-new-writers/">taken off writing duties</a> some time ago), he clarified, "Foxx for Lynch (Kane/Lynch)," pinning Foxx to the long-haired half of the duo. What's really surprising is that the film's producers didn't go with <a href="http://www.kevingage.com/upphotos/galleryimage_image_16.jpg">Kevin Gage</a> (<em>Heat</em>'s "Waingro"). Come on -- they look identical! <br />

Though it seems like we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/review-army-of-two-the-40th-day/"><em>just</em> got back from Shanghai</a>, it appears we're going to be booking another flight soon. Square Enix has announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch-2"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em></a> will kick off "48 hours of hell" for its duo of miscreant protagonists on August 24 in North America and August 27 in Europe.<br />
<br />
If you'd like to spend the interim months preparing for the sequel, there's a new trailer from IGN available directly after the break. (Side note: How weird is it to see the Square Enix logo at the beginning? Totally weird, that's how weird.)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/kane-and-lynchs-dog-days-begin-on-august-24/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kane &amp; Lynch's Dog Days begin on August 24</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/kane-and-lynchs-dog-days-begin-on-august-24/">Kane &amp; Lynch's Dog Days begin on August 24</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 16:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">IO Interactive is ditching many of the audio-visual bells and whistles of the modern third-person action game for its upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch">Kane &amp; Lynch</a></em> sequel, with the hopes of ultimately creating a more realistic, gritty experience. So far, we'd say the developer is doing a pretty good job. Set in a Shanghai that's a far cry from the brightly colored one found in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/review-army-of-two-the-40th-day/">Army of Two: The 40th Day</a></em>, <em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em> is presented "documentary style" -- it looks like the game is being recorded on a handheld camera as you play, with all of the shaking and imperfections you'd expect from such a production.</div>
<br />
It's as if the action has been taped and uploaded to YouTube -- there's even an animated "Buffering..." message in place of a stock loading screen. The video pixelates when you're hit and loses sync when the camera's rocked by explosions. Particularly heinous headshots and other brutal injuries generate a mosaic effect as the camera moves past them, adding to the documentary feel. Oh, and there's no soundtrack -- the only time you'll hear music is if you happen to pass a radio or catch a shopping center's muzak over the gunfire.<br />
<br />
We're sold on the presentation, but the gameplay ... well, read on after the break for my thoughts on an in-progress build.<br />

Yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/kane-and-lynch-2-debut-trailer-is-totally-raw-and-brutal/">debut trailer</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch-2"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em></a> may have been high on style, but it wasn't so big on substance. Thankfully, reader AlexLK12 was able to massage the game's official site and come up with four screenshots that are just a bit more informative. <br />
<br />
For instance, just look at the shot above. Why, already we know that the game has both Kane <em>and</em> Lynch in it. Also, there are guns.<br />

<a href="http://gameone.de/playtube/2-nackte-maenner-hauen-einen-hund/581257">MTV Germany</a> has posted a video that could be construed as a viral teaser for <em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2</em>. The clip is mock "surveillance video" of two naked men desperately barging into a Chinese restaurant. The streakers are apparently on the run -- there's some gun fire aimed in their direction -- until one (possibly Lynch by the looks of his hairstyle) trips and falls over a table, only to be attacked a few seconds later by a dog. The other gentleman, perhaps Kane, successfully beats the dog off of his partner with what appears to be a tray, and then the two presumably escape.<br /> <br /> Could this be be a viral ad for Kane and Lynch in <em>"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/paws-for-concern-kane-and-lynch-2-dog-days-trademark-discover/">Dog Days</a></em><em>?"</em> Your call.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5398147/the-incredibly-bizarre-kane--lynch-2-teaser">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/rumor-kane-and-lynch-2-teaser-has-duo-dodging-dogs/">Rumor: Kane &amp; Lynch 2 teaser has duo dodging dogs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 10:35:00 EST. Though it was sniped by critics, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hitman"><em>Hitman</em></a> was a smash at the box office, raking in $100 million in theaters plus another $80M on DVD. Emboldened, producer Adrian Askarieh has a full slate of Eidos films in the works, projects that he recently discussed with <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/just-cause/pc/game-features/adrian-askarieh-interview-/">GameDaily</a>.<br />
<br />
His main focus right now is a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/just-cause"><em>Just Cause</em></a> film, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/hollywood-producer-snags-rights-to-just-cause/">he's producing independently</a>, so don't be surprised if it doesn't <em>quite</em> hit that same level of <em>Hitman </em>polish. Look for that to start shooting next year. Also next year, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane and Lynch</em></a> is finally set to start filming in March -- after plenty of false starts -- with Bruce Willis in the Kane role. Finally, there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/iesb-writer-hired-on-for-sequel-to-hitman-movie/">the <em>Hitman</em> sequel</a>, which Askarieh said may need a new lead, as star Timothy Olyphant is filming a new show for FX. Though Askarieh said he'd like to get Olyphant back, we can't imagine why when <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Moll">Richard Moll</a> is <em>right there</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/hitman-2-may-recast-lead-kane-and-lynch-still-coming/">Hitman 2 may recast lead, Kane and Lynch still coming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 19:00:00 EST. Overwhelming violence has never really been a problem in UK games advertising -- in fact, less than 1 percent of video game ads were turned down by the regulatory <a href="http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/">Advertising Standards Agency</a> in the past year (a <em>Kane and Lynch</em> ad and <em>Condemned 2</em> ad were the only offenders). However, <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35087/Easy-on-the-violence-publishers-warned">according to a report from MCV</a>, the ASA will publish new guidelines for gaming advertisements in September which will suggest publishers consider the "wider context of the impact their ads have," rather than simply fulfill the ASA's base requirements.<br /><br />Basically, the ASA is suggesting that publishers think about whether their advertisements will "offend and cause distress" throughout their ad consumers. Though the ASA admits that violent game ads have yet to be a problem in the UK, it'll use the new guidelines to "qualify the existing guidance to help publishers avoid problems in the future." That statement just confirms our long-held suspicion that the ASA is full-to-brim with <em>psychics</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/report-uk-advertising-authority-to-warn-publishers-to-tone-down/">Report: UK Advertising authority to warn publishers to tone down violent ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. Discovering a <a href="http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&amp;entry=77776337">trademark</a> for <em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em> has made us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/05/comparison-shows-significant-edits-to-gerstmanns-kane-and-lynch-r/">preemptively fire</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/ludwig-kietzmann/">Ludwig Kietzmann</a>, before his upcoming review of the game could be completed. In the future, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/07/eidos-dissolved-into-square-enix-europe-layoffs-likely/">Square Enix Europe</a> will pull all advertising from our site due to these choice quotes:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"This game will send you to the doghouse."</li>
    <li>"You will roll over when playing the game."</li>
    <li>"You'll beg for it to stop."</li>
    <li>"I played the game for a bit, but then I had to put it down."</li>
    <li>"Here's our score, K? 9/100."</li>
    <li>"<em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em> is a bitch."</li>

In Mumbai for the Golden Cursor Animation Awards, recently appointed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/livingstone-becomes-life-president-of-eidos/">Eidos "life president" Ian Livingstone</a> sat down with the folks at <a href="http://www.gamingindians.com/2009/05/eidos-president-talks-arkham-thief-hitman-etc/">GamingIndians</a> and spilled a full bag of beans. Unsurprisingly, he says the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/27/eidos-stays-independent-following-square-enix-acquisition/">Square Enix acquisition</a> was "a great deal in many ways" and that the various Eidos development studios would remain largely independent. "It's great news for the brand and for the people," he says.<br />
<br />
And also, apparently, great for sequels, as Livingstone confirms work on the next <em>Hitman</em> game, a sequel to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a> currently targeted for a September release date and -- big shock! -- a re-imagining of Lara Croft and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tomb-raider"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a> series. "The next <em>Tomb Raider</em>, I think, will surprise a lot of people and reinvigorate the franchise," Livingstone notes, stressing the relevance of game characters in mainstream media these days. Incidentally, he more than intimates that Eidos Montreal is working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/eidos-montreal-confirms-thief-4-worst-kept-secret-in-industry/"><em>Thief 4</em></a>, though now we know that to be a fact -- the "worst kept secret in the industry," in fact.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/livingstone-kane-and-lynch-2-aimed-for-sept-more-hitman-tomb-r/">Livingstone: Kane &amp; Lynch 2 aimed for Sept., more Hitman, Tomb Raider en route</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 May 2009 11:00:00 EST. Hot on the heels of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/22/court-approves-square-enix-buyout-of-eidos/">yesterday's official acquisition</a> of "the house that Lara built" (Eidos, folks), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> has released a load of numbers on its biggest IPs -- including some that it just acquired yesterday. Unsurprisingly, the <em>Final Fantasy</em> series flies high above its brethren (in a fancy airship, <em>of course</em>) with over 85 million units moved over the series' lifetime. We imagine after the company releases its flurry of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffxiii/"><em>FFXIII</em> titles</a>, that number will jump considerably.<br /><br />Among other details in the release is <em>Dragon Quest</em>'s lifetime sales, reaching nearly 50 million units, and the <em>Tomb Raider</em> series showing up with 30 million units sold in the past 13 years. Also of note is <em>Kane &amp; Lynch: Dead Men</em> selling nearly two million shameful, shameful copies. Can we expect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/layoffs">the layoffs</a> to stop for now?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/square-enix-reveals-lifetime-franchise-sales">Edge</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.square-enix.com/eng/pdf/news/20090422_02en.pdf">Source</a> (warning: PDF)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/23/85-million-final-fantasy-games-sold-global-takeover-imminent/">85 million Final Fantasy games sold, global takeover imminent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Apr 2009 13:42:00 EST. Like a middle-aged woman who spends half of Feb. 15 explaining to her mother why a new toilet brush and a night of darts is as much a Valentine's Day as she can expect from Lyle, Square Enix has <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/square-enix-cites-major-eidos-franchises">gone on the record</a> with the precise reasons it has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/square-enix-behind-eidos-takeover-bid/">an interest in buying</a> struggling publisher Eidos. In addition to the dev houses included in the deal, the company has its eye on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Hitman/">Hitman</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tomb-Raider/">Tomb Raider</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Deus%20Ex">Deus Ex</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a>.<br /><br />Meanwhile, and surprising no one, 20-percent Eidos shareholder Warner Bros.* says it's putting its support behind the deal and honestly, it's kind of hard to blame it.<br /><br /><em><small>*Did you know Time Warner is our parent company? <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gametap">GameTap</a> adds a pair of dark tales this week for subscribers. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/grimm"><span style="font-style: italic;">American McGee's Grimm</span></a> keeps "improving" childhood classics with the addition of <span style="font-style: italic;">The Devil and His Three Golden Hairs</span> (remember, it's free to everyone for the first 24 hours). Also, the dynamic duo of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a> get all violent up in the joint.<br /> </div>
</div>
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.gametap.com/grimm/"><em>Grimm</em></a>: <span style="font-style: italic;">The Devil and His Three Golden Hairs</span> (Windows) - Much like <span style="font-style: italic;">Harry Potter</span>, it just keeps getting darker.<br /></li>

Once again, there aren't any additions to GameTap's <a href="http://www.gametap.com/home/play/free.html">free games list</a> this week. We fear the inevitable day when video games will be crafted by machines (besides the robot that adds $60 worth of "better" to <em>Madden</em> every 12 months, of course), but it will also have its share of upsides. For example, we'll no longer have to worry about hurting actual people's feelings when we say awful, curt, snide things about their labors of love.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Kane%20and%20Lynch">Kane &amp; Lynch</a> </em>dev IO Interactive recently spoke to Games Radar about what getting negative reviews feels like, and you'll never guess the one that "really" hurt: "Then GameSpot reviewed the game. Bruce Willis is in talks to star in the upcoming <em>Kane and Lynch</em> film adaptation, reports <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117986790.html?categoryid=13&amp;cs=1">Variety</a>. Willis will play Adam "Kane" Marcus. That's one-half of the rumor from back in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/bruce-willis-billy-bob-thorton-rumored-for-kane-and-lynch/">November 2007</a> that said Billy Bob Thornton was in talks for the role of Lynch. According to the Variety piece, the filmmakers are still looking for Lynch, with shooting to begin before the end of the year. The movie will be directed by Simon Crane, based on a script by Kyle Ward.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/bruce-willis-in-talks-to-star-in-kane-and-lynch-film-adaptation/">Bruce Willis in talks to star in Kane and Lynch film adaptation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 20:55:00 EST. The founders of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hitman/">Hitman</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kaneandlynch/"><em>Kane and Lynch</em></a> developer IO Interactive have left to form <a href="http://www.retomoto.com/">Reto-Moto</a>, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based studio "committed to redefining the online multi-player space." While the team isn't talking about its initial project, a press release announcing the company notes that Reto-Moto is in "active dialogue with strategic industry partners."<br /><br />In a rather incestuous twist, it turns out that Reto-Moto was actually established in 1997, and was the former parent of IO Interactive before it was handed off to Eidos in 2004 as part of a &pound;20 million acquisition. It looks like Thomas Wolfe <a href="http://www.amazon.com/You-Cant-Go-Home-Again/dp/0060930055">was wrong</a>; you can go home again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/11/former-hitman-kane-and-lynch-creators-launch-reto-moto/">Former Hitman, Kane and Lynch creators launch Reto-Moto</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Apr 2008 16:30:00 EST. After receiving a whopping 26 complaints, the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK has banned a "graphic" and "shocking" poster (seen above) for <em>Kane &amp; Lynch: Dead Men</em>. <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/apr/09/asa.advertising">The Guardian</a> reports the ASA ordered Eidos not to print or broadcast any ads created for the game again as they were deemed inappropriate for an "untargeted medium."<br /><br />The print ad appeared in two Future Publishing magazines, while a TV ad portrayed scenes of graphic violence. The poster also included an overlay of this brilliant insight from <em>OXM</em>: "Grittier and nastier in tone than anything you've seen before, the violence here is visceral, brutal and very, very real." This was seen by the ASA as possibly "condoning and glorifying real violence." Sadly, none of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-gerstmann">controversy</a> <em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em> seems to shake up makes the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/metareview-kane-and-lynch-dead-men-xbox-360-ps3-pc/">mediocre</a> game any better, but it sure <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/kane-and-lynch-sells-a-million-copies-obligatory-reviewer-firing/">does help sell copies</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/kane-and-lynch-ads-banned-in-uk/">Kane &amp; Lynch ads banned in UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. With all the hubbub surrounding its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/gerstmann-gate-the-aftermath/http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/gerstmann-gate-the-aftermath/">Gamespot review and subsequent aftermath</a>, there were plenty of areas in which <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/KaneandLynch/">Kane and Lynch</a> </em>didn't get enough credit. There were great characters and performances and style to spare, not to mention an innovative multiplayer mode that pitted cops against robbers and (in time) robbers against robbers and (if you were playing with dumb people) cops against cops. Now, fans of that mode are getting a little love with four downloadable maps for "Fragile Alliance."<br /><br />The maps, collectively titled "The Dope Bag" will be arriving on Xbox Live and PSN on April 17 and, what's more, they'll be totally free. Here's to you, "Fragile Alliance," in hopes that you'll finally get that moment in the sun you've dreamed of.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/kane-and-lynch-to-get-dlc/">Kane and Lynch to get free DLC April 17</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Apr 2008 09:00:00 EST. If for some reason you're still playing <em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em>, Eidos has a nice surprise for you: four new downloadable maps for the game's Fragile Alliance multiplayer mode will be released on April 17th, the day the new PLAYSTATION Store <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/new-psn-store-screenshots-reveal-preview-button-video-coming-ne/">relaunches</a>. Entitled "The Dope Bag," this DLC will feature four maps, each featuring its own "unique scenario." At the very least, the price is nice. Unlike <em>Stranglehold</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/american-psn-updates-for-january-24th/">multiplayer additions</a>, this will cost a pretty sum of $0 (0 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360). With the release of the similarly priced "Still Alive" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/rock-band-john-coultons-still-alive-on-psn-april-17/"><em>Rock Band</em></a> add-on, April 17th is going to be a great day.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/">Godfree</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/kane-and-lynch-gets-free-dlc-for-store-relaunch/">Kane &amp; Lynch gets free DLC for Store relaunch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Apr 2008 01:00:00 EST. Godfree's early info says that the DLC will take the form of four multiplayer maps for the Fragile Alliance gameplay mode. Not only that, but the maps are supposedly free, and are said to go live on April the 17th. The maps will not be separate and will be packaged together in a single piece of downloadable content apparently called, ahem, <em>The Dope Bag</em>, with each map within containing its own specific scenario.<br /><br />While free DLC is always a good thing, we just can't seem to get excited about this one. How about you readers? Are you <em>Kane &amp; Lynch </em>owners out there ready to give this a try?<br /><br />[Thanks <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/">Godfree</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/kane-and-lynch-dlc-coming-and-for-free-to-boot/">Kane &amp; Lynch DLC coming, and for free to boot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Apr 2008 18:30:00 EST.
