Xbox SmartGlass now available for Kindle Fire and Kindle HD

Xbox SmartGlass has migrated over to Amazon's Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD tablets. First generation Kindle Fires are out of luck since they're based on Android version 2.3 and the Xbox SmartGlass app requires Android 4.0 and higher.

An update to Xbox SmartGlass little over a week ago made Microsoft's second-screen experience compatible with 7-inch and larger Android tablets. Xbox SmartGlass launched in November 2012, allowing Xbox 360 users to control videos and interact with SmartGlass-enabled apps and games using compatible smart phones and tablets. In addition to the Android app, Xbox SmartGlass is available for free on iOS devices and, of course, Windows 8 and Windows Phone.

DmC prequel comic 'The Chronicles of Vergil' unleashes first digital issue

The first issue of Titan Comics' DmC: Devil May Cry prequel, The Chronicles of Vergil, is now available for download through comiXology. You can purchase either through a computer browser or through the comiXology app on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire.

This first issue of the proposed two-book run, written by Guillaume Dorison (AKA Izu) and illustrated by Robin Recht and Patrick Pion, leads up to the events of Ninja Theory's DmC game. The print version drops on May 15, and the follow-up issue hits comic store shelves on June 19.

Kindle now at GameStop, purchase includes $25 Amazon card

Amazon's Kindle Fire, which uses the Android operating system, is available now through GameStop in the States. The game retailer will have the Kindle Fire HD 7" for $199.99 in "all 4,400" US GameStop shops. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and Kindle Fire 7", which cost $299.99 and $159.99, respectively, are available in select stores.

"And with customers able to trade old video games, devices and more toward the purchase of new products, including Kindle Fire, we're making it easier than ever for customers to get the holiday gifts they want," said Joe Gorman, vice president of mobile at GameStop. Trading in an original Kindle Fire can net customers up to $100 of in-store credit.

To entice you to purchase a Kindle from GameStop, rather than straight from Amazon, the retailer is offering a $25 Amazon.com gift card with Kindle Fire purchase through January 31, 2013. And with that you can purchase a GameStop gift card off Amazon and get right back to what you should have been given in the first place. Circuit complete.

Minecraft Pocket Edition available on Kindle Fire via Amazon Appstore

Minecraft Pocket Edition is now available on the Amazon Appstore, meaning it is officially out for the Kindle Fire. Minecraft Pocket Edition runs $7 on Amazon, the same price as on the Android and iOS app stores.

Kindle Fire owners previously figured out ways to run Minecraft Pocket Edition on their devices, through rooting and roundabout third-party subscriptions, but now it's a simple, legitimate one-click process. Get crafting here; it's not like you're using that Kindle Fire to read books anyway.

Kindle Fire's Skylanders Cloud Patrol lets you buy toys in-game

The new Kindle Fire (and Kindle Fire HD) version of Skylanders Cloud Patrol has one feature that the iOS version can't match, thanks to the Kindle's inherent Amazon-ness: it can sell you Skylanders toys from within the app.

The Kindle Fire version of the shooting game uses the tablet's persistent Amazon login to allow you to buy physical Skylanders toys through 1-Click Purchasing while you're playing the game. The digital version of the character is unlocked immediately, providing both instant and delayed gratification of your desire to possess all Skylanders.

Now we see why Amazon priced the Fire line so cheaply - the tablet is simply a convenient distribution method for more toys.

Amazon's 'GameCircle' adds achievements and more to Kindle Fire games

In an effort to woo developers to its Android-powered Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon has announced GameCircle. The series of new APIs allow developers to integrate a number of new features into games designed for the Fire.

GameCircle adds an achievement system, leaderboards and sync. Sync may be the most interesting feature, as it allows players to save their game progress in the cloud, so that they can pick up a game session after switching devices or even after restoring a deleted game - a valid concern considering the Fire's roughly 6GB of usable space.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth debuts on Kindle Fire, took one guy two weeks to port

That's right, you can download Anomaly: Warzone Earth on the Kindle Fire. If you've got an Android tablet sporting 2.3 or higher, it should also be compatible with your non-Kindle Fire thingamabob. All you need to do is install the Amazon App Store and cough up $3.99.

More impressive than Anomaly: Warzone Earth's debut on a yet another platform is how it made its way over to Android in the first place -- via one guy. It took 11 bit studios' lead programmer Bartosz Brzostek just two weeks (and a lot of coffee) to port the iOS version over to Android.

Amazon Kindle Fire is a 7-inch Android tablet, only $199, has Angry Birds

After what seems like an eternity, Amazon has finally taken the wraps off of its long-rumored tablet. Introducing the Kindle Fire, a 7-inch Android-powered tablet that, at $199, is less than half the price of the iPad, not to mention the rest of the Android tablet competition. The Kindle Fire will have its own "easy-to-use" interface and, since Amazon happens to have its own Android Appstore, finding apps for the device should, ostensibly, not be a problem. For example, as seen in the image above, the Kindle Fire will have Angry Birds which, if our math is accurate, should ensure millions of buyers.

Unlike its more expensive brethren, the Kindle Fire does without an embedded camera, microphone, or 3G access. The Wi-Fi only device will come with a 30-day free trial of the normally $79-a-year Amazon Prime, which will nab customers not only free two-day shipping but also unlimited streaming video from Amazon's video service. [Update: After the break, the Kindle Fire ad. If you're paying attention, you may even spot the grossly addictive Cut the Rope in there somewhere. Yup, it's a tablet!]
