We used to look at these Japanese <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/a-brief-history-of-club-nintendo-awesomeness/">Club Nintendo</a> gifts with jealousy and despair, but now that Nintendo of America is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/north-america-gets-club-nintendo/">planning</a> some kind of Club Nintendo, we see them with ... jealousy and despair combined with the expectation of disappointment.<br /><br />The <em>Kirby Ultra Super Deluxe Sound Track </em>contains 33 tracks from <em>Super Star Ultra</em>, along with newly arranged stage and boss medleys and an arrangement of the credit sequence music. Last night, we made a mistake and prematurely selected a winner for our latest contest. See, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fanswag">usually run these</a> things until Sunday night, selecting a winner via random drawing the following day and putting up a post that night. For those of you that regularly read us, you probably saw the post and thought nothing of it. Well, in reality, we made a mistake.<br /><br />You see, the contest is <em>still open now</em>. When we set up the rules for these things, they're final, so we're obligated to keep the contest open for its full length, as we should. So, for those of you who want to win this game, get on over to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/fanswag-kirby-super-star-ultra/">the original contest post here</a> and leave a comment. The contest closes tonight.<br /><br />We apologize to the mixup and thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Thanks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/reminder-today-is-the-last-day-for-our-giveaway/">Reminder: Today is the last day for our giveaway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. <font color="red">Update:</font> Wow, we can be pretty boneheaded sometimes. We prematurely ended the contest and chose a winner, thinking it ended on Sunday night, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fanswag">per our usual routine</a>. This latest contest, however, wasn't supposed to end until the evening of Tuesday, October 28th. We apologize for the mistake and will be leaving the contest open, selecting the winner at random again, after it has <strong>officially</strong> concluded. Sorry to everyone involved, we'll do our best to avoid this mistake in the future. Please ignore all of that at the bottom.<br /><br /><strike>Our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/fanswag-kirby-super-star-ultra/">latest giveaway</a> has come to a close, so it's about time we crowned a winner, right? That's right, boys and girls, we're hooking up one lucky reader with Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a> ($35)! What do you have to do to enter for your chance at this great game? <br /><br />To enter, simply leave a comment between now and Tuesday, October 28th at 11:59PM ET, telling us what your favorite Kirby form is (you know, what happens when he swallows an enemy up!). You can leave <strong>one comment per day</strong>. We'll select a winner the following day via random drawing.<br /> <br /> There are a few things you should know before entering. Entrants must be <strong>current and legal residents of the United States or Canada </strong>(excluding Quebec) and <strong>at least 18 years of age </strong>or older. Read up on the rest of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/official-giveaway-rules/">the official rules right here</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a> is the best of the traditional Kirby games (by which I mean the ones that don't feature Kirby as a ball). It features more abilities and more moves than pretty much any other Kirby game, and the levels are more varied in their design. It manages to <em>still</em> be the best traditional Kirby game, despite the fact that it was released in its original form on the Super NES. The new content certainly hasn't done it any favors, and, like all Kirby games, it won't provide much of a challenge, but <em>Super Star Ultra</em> remains as clever as it was in 1996, and completely worth every platform fan's time.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/">DS Fanboy Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 17:45:00 EST. The look did not need updating at all: <span style="font-style: italic;">Super Star'</span>s colorful, bright graphics hold up today. The new rendered intro scene looks awkward compared to the awesome original graphics.<br /><br />In case <em>Super Star</em> is new to you, <em>Spring Breeze</em> is an abbreviated <em>Kirby </em>platformer in the style of <em>Kirby's Adventure.</em> Kirby walks through a series of levels, sucking up enemies, whose powers he can absorb. The levels all tend to be full of breakable blocks and little secret health items. The main wrinkle to <em>Spring Breeze</em> is the partner system: in addition to stealing abilities, you can also put an enemy into service, fighting alongside you, with his own life bar.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Taking in Kirby Super Star Ultra's new minigames</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/">E308: Taking in Kirby Super Star Ultra's new minigames</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 13:15:00 EST. You'd think for all his years of good service, Kirby would deserve a shout-out during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/highlights-from-nintendos-e3-2008-press-conference/">Nintendo E3 2008</a> keynote -- at least a spot in a video montage. But no, Kirb got the shaft, and if you weren't already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kirby-super-star-ultra/">keeping tabs on</a> the pink puff, you'd have no idea Nintendo was releasing a (somewhat) new <em>Kirby</em> title for DS -- one of only five first party DS games scheduled for release during the remainder of the year. Exploring Nintendo's E3 press site, we've discovered confirmation that <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em> (a remake of the <em>ultraless</em> SNES game) is still on track for a September 22 release.<br /><br /><em>Super Star Ultra</em> will feature all of the original game's modes, plus "new adventures," including three, touch-controlled minigames (Kirby Card Swipe, Kirby on the Draw and Snack Tracks) that support up to 4 players via DS Download Play. With multiple cartridges, two players can play the adventure mode, with one assuming the roles of "Helpers," clones of Kirby's foes created with a new ability.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/">Kirby Super Star Ultra</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925449"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925448"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925446"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/overlooked-e3-kirby-super-star-ultra/">Overlooked@E3: Kirby Super Star Ultra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. As part of a massive data dump accompanying their E3 2008 press conference, Nintendo has announced some slight adjustment to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/nintendo-announces-new-wario-land-for-wii-kirby-for-ds/">previously announced release dates</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/kirby-super-star-sequel-coming-to-ds/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a>. Both games are now listed for release on Monday, Sept. 22, a bump up form the originally planned release dates later in the week. On the plus side, now you'll be able to get your hands on the games earlier. On the downside, now you have less time to save up enough dough to blow. Nintendo is proudly boasting that it won't be waiting until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3/">E3</a> to reveal some of their biggest upcoming games. The new DS announcements for today are <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em> and <em>Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir</em>, both with new screens in the galleries below!<br /><br />As a remake of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/kirby-super-star-returns-on-the-ds/">original SNES favorite</a>, <em>KSSU</em> will use the touch screen to breathe new life into the existing mini-game compilation. Yeah, if the DS does anything well, it's mini-games. It'll be a totally revamped experience, with new Revenge of the King and Meta Knight Ultra modes in the works, including local wireless play. <em>Kirby</em> has done <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/kirbycanvascurse?q=canvas%20curse">everything right</a> so far on the DS, so we should expect greatness from the little pink blob on September 29th.<br /><br />&lt;insert witty segue here&gt;<br /><br />Yes, yes -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/07/ds-fanboy-review-professor-layton-and-the-curious-village/">another</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/fresh-footage-of-myst-shows-what-myst-does-best/">mystery</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/31/wheres-my-woolly-mammoth/">adventure</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/the-last-king-of-africa-moves-from-paradise/">game</a> is on the way in the form of <em>MillionHeir</em>. Get over that delightful play on words, and check out some of the previous games in the <a href="http://www.mysterycasefiles.com/games.html"><em>Mystery Case Files</em></a> range. The DS entry will be a "painted scene" point-and-click adventure, where a cluey detective needs to find the rightful heir to a fortune. It seems like the standard pixel-hunt for inventory items and evidence -- but a multiplayer mode is also included, which is a pretty nifty addition for an adventure game. <em>MillionHeir</em> hits the stores on September 8th.<br /><br />
<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/ds-library-plumps-up-before-e3-kirby-and-millionheir/">DS library plumps up before E3: Kirby and MillionHeir</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. With E3 just around the corner, we've begun to brace ourselves for the deluge of new game announcements that always accompany the annual event, the latest of which has come from Nintendo. This morning the company announced a trio of new titles set to be shown during next month's conference, including <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> for the Wii, as well as <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra </em>and <em>Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir</em>, both for the company's touchable portable.<br /><br />As previously announced for both <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/05/28/wario-land-shake-jiggling-its-way-to-japan/">Japan</a> and <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/06/24/wario-land-shake-gets-dated-for-europe-among-others/">Europe</a>, Nintendo describes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> as a "classic side-scroller," and notes that the game will have players controlling Mario's portly nemesis with the Wii remote turned sideways on September 25. <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em>, on the other hand, will re-imagine the SNES classic platformer starring everyone's favorite perpetually-hungry cream puff when it debuts four days later on September 29. Finally, <em>Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir</em> brings Big Fish Games' line of casual PC puzzlers to the DS earlier in the month on September 8. The games join the previously announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-super-sluggers/"><em>Mario Super Sluggers</em></a>, giving us an early look at what Nintendo will have on tap at the LA Convention Center in a few short weeks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/nintendo-announces-new-wario-land-for-wii-kirby-for-ds/">Nintendo announces new Wario Land for Wii, Kirby for DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 09:10:00 EST.
