A new Wii game will collect past titles and package them on a retail disc - which classic Kirby titles would be included is a mystery.<br /><br />Outside of the existence of Kirby's 20th Anniversary on Wii, nothing else is known right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/nintendo-celebrates-kirbys-20th-anniversary-on-wii/">Nintendo celebrates Kirby's 20th Anniversary on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 23:57:00 EST. Technically, it's noon EST tomorrow, April 21, but folks in the US can expect announcements from the Japanese feed starting at 8:30 p.m. PST tonight, Friday, April 20. The European announcements will hit at 1 p.m. CET (4 a.m. PST), April 21.<br /><br />Nintendo hasn't revealed what it will discuss tonight, but it has left us a trail of clues. CEO Satoru Iwata sent out invitations to this weekend's Nintendo Direct on 3DS' Spot Pass, showing him with a giant, suspicious Kirby plushie. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kid-icarus-uprising"><em>Kid Icarus: Uprising</em></a>'s Masahiro Sakurai tweeted to expect <em>Uprising </em>news and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/theatrhythm-final-fantasy"><em>Theatrhythm Final Fantasy</em></a>'s Masanobu Suzui suggested fans should watch the feed, <a href="http://andriasang.com/con0ra/nintendo_direct_iwata_message/">Andriasang</a> translates.<br /><br />We'll have our eyes and fingertips ready to roll for any breakout <em>Kirby-Kid-Icarus-Theatrhythm</em> crossover news tonight, because really, it's not like we had any <em>plans </em>on a Friday night or anything.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/nintendo-direct-time-travels-with-news-tonight-tomorrow-yester/">Nintendo Direct time travels with news tonight, tomorrow, yesterday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/fake-miyamoto-takes-to-twitter-and-revitalizes-nintendo-franchis/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/fauxmarioflash530pxheaderimg.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; width: 530px; height: 381px; " /></a></div>
As if the saga of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/peter-molydeux/">Fake Peter Molyneux</a> weren't an exciting enough Twitter story, today we were introduced to Faux Shigeru Miyamoto, who creates amazing Flash games using classic Nintendo characters. Both Mario and Kirby are lampooned in Flash on the impersonator's Tumblr site, as well as the legendary creator himself of course. Presumably the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/08/nintendo-officially-denies-miyamotos-plan-to-step-down-within-n/">totally-not-retiring</a> <em>slash</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/07/report-shigeru-miyamoto-retiring-from-current-position-at-nin/">potentially retiring developer</a> isn't just pulling a fast one on us all, and we very much doubt these are prototypes for that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/miyamoto-working-on-an-unannounced-original-game/">original game he's making</a>.<br />
<br />
Regardless, we suggest one thing before heading into any of the games on said site: turn your volume way, way down. Or up, if you're extremely hard of hearing, but otherwise, ya know, it's <em>super loud</em>. Deafeningly so.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/fake-miyamoto-takes-to-twitter-and-revitalizes-nintendo-franchis/">Fake Miyamoto takes to Twitter and revitalizes Nintendo franchises in Flash</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Jan 2012 15:15:00 EST. <em>Kirby's Return to Dreamland</em> is too easy.<br />
<br />
I know I'm going to have to back that up, given that you couldn't die in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/15/kirbys-epic-yarn-review/">previous <em>Kirby</em> game</a>, and I loved that one -- and given that Kirby has never exactly been synonymous with brutal difficulty, and that's kind of the <em>point</em>.<br />
<br />
But <em>Kirby's Return to Dreamland</em>, unlike <em>Epic Yarn,</em> centers on giving Kirby the most impressive, most exciting, and most <em>powerful</em> powers he's ever had, and then fails to put them to any kind of interesting use. Really, the only ability you have to master in order to succeed in this game is pushing the attack button.<br />

	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/kirby-mass-attack-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/gamkirbymalogo530.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; " /></a></div>
The core conceit of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kirby-mass-attack"><em>Kirby: Mass Attack</em></a> was dreamed up by a complete lunatic. That's the only thing I can say about the game with absolute certainty. What sane human being would choose to eschew the time-tested formula of floaty-platforming and adorable mimicry that serves as the keystone for the franchise? Who, in their right mind, would swap that formula out for a bizarre, chimeric blend of the platforming, real-time strategy and mini-game collection genres?<br />
<br />
That's not a condemnation of <em>Kirby: Mass Attack</em>, of course -- that sort of outside-the-sanity-box thinking also led to the creation of the magnificent <em>Kirby: Canvas Curse</em>. This latest aberration of the powderpuff series doesn't quite reach the heights established by that predecessor; but during those moments where its preternatural ideas work in tandem, it comes awfully darn close.<br />

Historically, very few small pink blobs have done more to further innovation in the field of minigame design than Kirby, and judging from the above trailer, HAL Laboratory's DS swan-song <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kirby-mass-attack"><em>Kirby Mass Attack</em></a> will continue that proud tradition. Other continuing traditions include: ruthlessly destroying docile forrest creatures via accurately timed button presses, and ruining <a href="http://kirby.wikia.com/wiki/Whispy_Woods">Whispy Woods</a>' day in as many ways as possible.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/">Kirby Mass Attack (Minigames)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/#4418524"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/i30239_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/#4418525"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/i30240_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/#4418526"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/i30241_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/#4418527"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/i30242_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-mass-attack-minigames/#4418528"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/i30243_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/03/kirby-mass-attack-minigames-feature-minis-games/">Kirby: Mass Attack minigames feature minis, games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Sep 2011 10:30:00 EST. There's a new <em>Kirby</em> game coming to the Wii. And this time, it's far more <em>epic</em> than <em>yarn</em>. Tucked inside Nintendo's <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/events/110128/07.html">quarterly report</a> is mention of a new <em>Kirby</em> sequel, developed by series originator HAL Laboratory.<br />
<br />
As you'll see in the video teaser (after the break), the pink mascot appears much more powerful than ever before. Not only is he seem toting a giant sword, he also summons a fire dragon, sucks in an entire group of enemies, and shoots out a massive death star. "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/15/kirbys-epic-yarn-review/#review">Warm and fuzzy</a>" this is not.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/new-kirby-wii-game-coming-from-hal-laboratory/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Kirby Wii game coming from HAL Laboratory</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/new-kirby-wii-game-coming-from-hal-laboratory/">New Kirby Wii game coming from HAL Laboratory</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 10:20:00 EST. You won't be able to get it for Christmas, but you could conceivably have some gift cards left over from the holiday, at least.<br />
<br />
Perhaps it took Nintendo a while to translate all the cutesy descriptions of the collectible furniture items. Or perhaps it's taken Nintendo of Europe several months to stop hugging all the copies of the game long enough to get them into boxes.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/kirbys-epic-yarn-to-wind-up-in-europe-feb-25/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kirby's Epic Yarn to wind up in Europe Feb. 25</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/kirbys-epic-yarn-to-wind-up-in-europe-feb-25/">Kirby's Epic Yarn to wind up in Europe Feb. 25</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Dec 2010 16:45:00 EST. It turns out, according to an <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/10/07/iwata_asks_kirby/">Iwata Asks interview</a> with Good-Feel and Nintendo staff, that there's a good reason for both -- <em>Epic Yarn</em> was originally Prince Fluff's game.<br />
<br />
<em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> director Madoka Yamauchi came up with an idea for "World of Fluff" and designed it around the Prince Fluff character. Nintendo loved the idea, but thought something was missing from the "warm" world Good-Feel had created. Nintendo proposed turning it into a Kirby game last year.<br />
<br />
Producer Etsunobu Ebisu said that having Kirby in the world gives<span style="font-style: italic;"> Epic Yarn</span> "a greater feeling of existing." Also, we're sure, Kirby gives it a greater feeling of hope for good sales.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/the-epic-yarn-of-how-fluff-game-became-kirby/">The Epic Yarn of how Fluff's game became Kirby's</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 22:40:00 EST. Nintendo produced a few slick videos of its various console lineups for its conference, now embedded after the break.<br />
<br />
In addition to footage of known 3DS games, including <em>Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition</em> and <em>Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle</em>, the 3DS video reveals a second Resident Evil game, <em>Biohazard: The Mercenaries 3D</em>. The Wii video offers the first look at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/new-rhythm-heaven-fatal-frame-games-announced-for-wii/">new <em>Fatal Frame</em> and <em>Rhythm Heaven</em> games</a>, among many other first- and third-party titles. And though you have to wait until the end, you will see clips of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/kirby-pokemon-typing-on-the-way-to-regular-old-ds/">new <em>Kirby</em> game and <em>Battle &amp; Get! Pokemon Typing DS</em></a> in the DS video.<br />

The humble DS gets that honor, thanks to "<em>Battle &amp; Get! Pokemon Typing DS</em>," which is exactly what it sounds like. Judging by the screenshots (available <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/conference2010/ds/index.html">here</a>), you type Pokemon and attack names when prompted, using a virtual keyboard. Wacky!<br />
<br />
Also wacky: <em>Kirby</em> (tentative title), a new DS game which appears to have the player managing a team of up to 10 Kirbies at a time. We sincerely hope there are no restaurants in the game. Both games will be released in 2011. <br />
<br />
There's also a training game about dogs who know English, but considering America's widespread knowledge of English -- and the partnership with the Japanese NHK television network -- it's safe to say that one is Japan-only.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/kirby-pokemon-typing-on-the-way-to-regular-old-ds/">Kirby, Pokemon Typing (!) on the way to regular old DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Sep 2010 03:40:00 EST. <small>click to see Kirby's Epic Screenshots</small></center>Though Nintendo announced games in all its major franchises simultaneously, it's not playing it safe within those franchises. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/kirbys-epic-yarn-coming-to-the-wii-this-fall/"><em>Kirby's Epic Yarn</em></a>, for example, is still a cutesy side-scroller, like other Kirby games, but it presents a new art style that seems pretty far out for such a mainstream game, one that has charmed me to an uncomfortable degree. The game also adds a new gameplay gimmick that, while it's not as drastic a change as Canvas Curse, still alters the basics of Kirby. And, like every new 2D platformer announced at E3, it has co-op.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/">Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/#3087713"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kirby2010-06-08-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/#3087714"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kirby2010-06-08-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/#3087715"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kirby2010-06-08-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/#3087716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kirby2010-06-08-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirbys-epic-yarn-wii/#3087717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kirby2010-06-08-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-kirbys-epic-yarn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview: Kirby's Epic Yarn</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-kirbys-epic-yarn/">Preview: Kirby's Epic Yarn</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 08:00:00 EST. Nintendo has announced a brand new <em>Kirby</em> game, coming to the Wii this fall. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/kirbys-epic-yarn"><em>Kirby's Epic Yarn</em></a> features an all-new art style for Kirby, with the character drawn in yarn and threads, and the backgrounds of the game looking as if they were created with sewn fabric. The game has Kirby wandering a 2D platform world, whipping characters and projectiles with his yarn, and taking on various ships, from a car and blimp to a gigantic screen-filling tank.<br />
<br />
There was also a second character shown, and a little bit of co-op play, with the two characters helping each other to reach platforms and separate areas. Nintendo says the game is due out sometime this fall -- we'll keep an eye out for the game on the floor of E3 today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/kirbys-epic-yarn-coming-to-the-wii-this-fall/">Kirby's Epic Yarn coming to the Wii this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 12:43:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo">Nintendo</a> is one of a few companies to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/nintendo-and-sony-stocks-drop-following-earnings-reports/">release its earnings report</a> earlier this week, and <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/01/29/nintendo_release_calendar">a supplemental report released today</a> has some surprises and new information for Wii owners. Not only does it finally list a target date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metroid-other-m"><em>Metroid: Other M</em></a> (you can expect it as soon as summer of this year if all goes according to plan), but there are two brand new names in the list as well: <em>Xenoblade</em> and <em>The Last Story</em>. <em>Xenoblade</em> is listed for a Spring 2010 release, so we should be hearing about that one soon, and <em>The Last Story</em> is listed for sometime this year, with both slated for release on the Wii in Japan. There's reason to believe these are just new names, as both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monado-beginning-of-the-world"><em>Monado: Beginning of the World</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cosmic-walker"><em>Cosmic Walker</em></a> are missing from the report, and <em>Monado</em> was being developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monolith-soft">Monolith Soft</a>, known most notably for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenosaga_Episode_I:_Der_Wille_zur_Macht">another <em>Xeno</em>- title</a> you may have heard of. But <em>Monado</em> is still listed for a release in the US this year, so who knows?<br />
<br />
Other than that, the report lists some titles we expected to see soon: A new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kirby-super-star"><em>Kirby</em><em> Super Star</em></a> title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy-2"><em>Super Mario Galaxy 2</em></a>, the Wii's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/golden-sun-ds-in-the-works-for-2010/"><em>Golden Sun</em></a> for DS, and a few other releases scheduled in 2010. Full list of Japanese Wii releases is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/nintendo-report-hints-at-new-wii-titles-other-m-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo report hints at new Wii titles, Other M release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/nintendo-report-hints-at-new-wii-titles-other-m-release/">Nintendo report hints at new Wii titles, Other M release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 23:15:00 EST. If so, you'll be pleased to hear that manga/anime publisher Viz Media is releasing a 25-volume <em>Kirby </em>manga in North America, joining <em><a href="http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?series_id=957">Zelda</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?series_id=1113"><em>Pokemon</em></a> manga.<br />
<br />
The manga by Hirokazu Hikawa follows "Kirby and his friend, Chirby," trying to return the Star Rod while being pursued by King Dedede. Essentially, it's <em>Lord of the Rings</em>, but with an infantile pink monster who devours everything instead of a hobbit. The first volume will be out September 2010.<br />

Harnessing the power of Nintendo franchises for charity, the folks at <a href="http://www.triplespeedrunners.com/">TripleSpeedRunners</a> will be spending 48 hours this weekend speed-running through games from the <em>Donkey Kong</em>, <em>Star Fox</em>, and <em>Kirby</em> series. Live streaming of the event will be handled on the crew's website, with live commentary and chat available to cheer the players -- or jeer 'em if you're a player hater.<br /><br />All proceeds from donations during the event will go to <a href="http://www.dcoutreach.com/">DC Outreach</a>, an organization that provides worldwide support to families affected by Dyskeratosis Congenita. Last time TSR got together, it raised $1,140 for the DC charity, but we know with the full support of the Joystiq BioMass behind them we can help them double that. Right, folks?<br /><br />The speed-runs kick off this Friday at 7PM ET sharp.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/triplespeedrunners-take-on-nintendo-trio-for-charity/">TripleSpeedRunners take on Nintendo trio for charity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Oct 2009 02:00:00 EST. The Kirby <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kirby">we know and love</a> is "one tough cream puff," but in this short from the mind of one MB McClain, he's a serial killer who ingests his victims in order to absorb their souls. His lovable antagonist from the games, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_the_Kirby_series#King_Dedede">King Dedede</a>? He's a grizzled detective who vows to capture Kirby ... dead or alive. Yep, folks, it's another day of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/watch-japans-unsettling-ps3-slim-commercials/">disturbing gaming videos</a> here at the 'stiq.<br /><br />In fact, if you have any little ones, we suggest you shoo them away before watching the trailer (more of a short film, really) after the break, lest they grow up to make the kind of video you're about to fuel six months' worth of nightmares with. While we're not sure McClain's Kirby could ever carry an entire film, he could make a good second-rung <strike>slasher</strike> absorber in the next <em>Freddy vs. Jason</em>.<br /><br />[Thanks, BPM!]<br /><br /></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/25/kirbys-dreamland-movie-trailer-is-the-stuff-of-nightmares/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kirby's Dreamland 'movie' trailer is the stuff of nightmares</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/25/kirbys-dreamland-movie-trailer-is-the-stuff-of-nightmares/">Kirby's Dreamland 'movie' trailer is the stuff of nightmares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Aug 2009 23:59:00 EST. The most eye-catching new item is the 350-Coin Kirby flying disc, which looks <em>just like</em> a flat Kirby made out of nylon. <br /><br />Other new items include <em>Zelda</em> posters, a <em>Mario &amp; Luigi 3</em> soundtrack (which is discounted for those who purchased the game), pencil cases, and a <em>very</em> cute set of <em>Animal Crossing</em> magnet clips. We can't help but think that no matter how sad we are over our inability to obtain the Kirby frisbee, we're going to weep openly when Japan's Platinum and Gold rewards are unveiled.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/07/23/club_nintendo_goods/">andriasang</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/club-nintendo-japan-updates-with-flying-kirby-and-more/">Club Nintendo Japan updates with flying Kirby and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 17:15:00 EST. Thus did we set out, scouring the harsh planes of these wild internets in search of custom Kirby swag. Interested in what we found? <strong>WiiWare</strong><br /><em>Sandy Beach</em> (Konami, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): First, the good news: Yes, you can build sand castles in this game, either at your leisure or facing off against swarms of crabs in the <em>Defend Your Castle-</em>esque Crab Battle mode. The bad news? Well, it wasn't the first <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mHKHKR8x6A">Crab Battle</a> that came to mind ...<br /><br /><strong>Virtual Console<br /></strong><em>Kirby's Dream Land 3</em> (Super NES[TM], 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): This title had the unfortunate luck of coming out within a week of the incredibly awesome <em>Kirby Superstar</em> -- great timing, Nintendo! Still, it's a fun game that happens to be <em>just like</em> its predecessors. We half expect the company to pull some poetic injustice and release <em>Superstar</em> on Virtual Console next week.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/">Sandy Beach (WiiWare)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/#1037336"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/sandy-beach-(5)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/#1037335"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/sandy-beach-(10)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/#1037334"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/sandy-beach-(7)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/#1037333"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/sandy-beach-(6)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sandy-beach-wiiware/#1037332"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/sandy-beach-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/wiikly-wares-kirby-dream-land-3-sandy-beach/">Wiikly Wares: Kirby Dream Land 3, Sandy Beach</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 12:42:00 EST. If so, would you be interested in Nintendo game soundtracks for collecting-related reasons or listening-related? Do any DS games stand out as soundtrack-worthy? It totally counts if you already <em>have</em> the soundtrack. Last night, we made a mistake and prematurely selected a winner for our latest contest. See, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fanswag">usually run these</a> things until Sunday night, selecting a winner via random drawing the following day and putting up a post that night. For those of you that regularly read us, you probably saw the post and thought nothing of it. Well, in reality, we made a mistake.<br /><br />You see, the contest is <em>still open now</em>. When we set up the rules for these things, they're final, so we're obligated to keep the contest open for its full length, as we should. So, for those of you who want to win this game, get on over to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/fanswag-kirby-super-star-ultra/">the original contest post here</a> and leave a comment. The contest closes tonight.<br /><br />We apologize to the mixup and thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Thanks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/reminder-today-is-the-last-day-for-our-giveaway/">Reminder: Today is the last day for our giveaway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. <font color="red">Update:</font> Wow, we can be pretty boneheaded sometimes. We prematurely ended the contest and chose a winner, thinking it ended on Sunday night, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fanswag">per our usual routine</a>. This latest contest, however, wasn't supposed to end until the evening of Tuesday, October 28th. That's right, boys and girls, we're hooking up one lucky reader with Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a> ($35)! What do you have to do to enter for your chance at this great game? <br /><br />To enter, simply leave a comment between now and Tuesday, October 28th at 11:59PM ET, telling us what your favorite Kirby form is (you know, what happens when he swallows an enemy up!). You can leave <strong>one comment per day</strong>. We'll select a winner the following day via random drawing.<br /> <br /> There are a few things you should know before entering. Entrants must be <strong>current and legal residents of the United States or Canada </strong>(excluding Quebec) and <strong>at least 18 years of age </strong>or older. Read up on the rest of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/official-giveaway-rules/">the official rules right here</a>. <br /> The beach is <em>awesome</em>. The life of a game blogger is a difficult one, my friends, so it's nice to step away from the monitor, sink into the white sands and catch up on that glorious invention known as sleep. Such a relaxing week could only bring good things, and I'm incredibly pleased to say it did: it gave good <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/david-hinkle">David</a> a chance to talk about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/gaming-to-go-electroplankton/">Electroplankton</a>, one of the DS's most eccentric titles, and it gave me a chance to give the Kirby series a go.<br /> <br /> You can imagine my delight, then, to finally gets my sandy hands on one of the DS's premiere platformers, to see how one cute and cuddly pink ball can inspire so much adoration. Kirby has made a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/">number</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/08/metareview-kirby-squeak-squad/">appearances</a> on everyone's favorite handheld, but this week's edition of Gaming to Go will be focusing on the first time the prolific cake eater showed his face on the portable. <em>Kirby: Canvas Curse</em>, in case you haven't given it a go, is all about drawing. You'll use the stylus exclusively to fling our spherical friend through many different adventures, all of which are short, colorful, and an absolute blast to play. Want to hear more? Point your stylus at the big button down there and race on to the next page!<br /> <br /> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center>

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a> is the best of the traditional Kirby games (by which I mean the ones that don't feature Kirby as a ball). It features more abilities and more moves than pretty much any other Kirby game, and the levels are more varied in their design. It manages to <em>still</em> be the best traditional Kirby game, despite the fact that it was released in its original form on the Super NES. The new content certainly hasn't done it any favors, and, like all Kirby games, it won't provide much of a challenge, but <em>Super Star Ultra</em> remains as clever as it was in 1996, and completely worth every platform fan's time.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/ds-fanboy-review-kirby-super-star-ultra/">DS Fanboy Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 17:45:00 EST. No, what brings us here today, agape and agog, is his collection of DS games, which stood at 209 titles when he sent in these pictures, with more on the way.<br /><br />So today, John, we salute you, O Buyer of Games. And, uh, got anything we could borrow?<br /><br /><br />

Wahey! Yeah, we know that Japan (<em>generally</em> speaking) gets the most excellent items when compared to elsewhere, but listen here, bub: it's <em>free stuff</em>. We're not about to complain, and nor should you (if you want to feel sorry for somebody, Australia's Club Nintendo scheme has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/australian-club-nintendo-still-not-functional/">gone AWOL</a>, and check out South Africa's piss-poor <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.za/NOE/en_ZA/club_nintendo/stars_catalogue_5823.html">Stars Catalogue</a>).<br /><br />Anyway, as these are happy times for North Americans, we thought we'd reflect on some of the <em>bestest</em> Club Nintendo gifts and trinkets from both Japan and Europe to date -- some of which <em>could </em>end up in the U.S.! Hit the gray button to start DS Fanboy's whirlwind Club Nintendo Tour of Wonders!<br /><br />

Not only are there dozens -- well, almost <em>two</em> dozen -- games slated for release in the U.S. this week, but included in the list are a few particularly interesting titles. <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em>, though announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/ds-library-plumps-up-before-e3-kirby-and-millionheir/">some time ago</a>, comes seemingly out of nowhere after some recent <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/09/video-nintendo.html">wacky promotions</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/my-japanese-coach-needs-a-release-date-coach/"><em>My Japanese Coach</em></a> finally makes it to shelves (we hope).<br />

Each week, we'll show off a new set of Nintendo-inspired projects, and this week, we're starting with the basics: recipes and ingredients. Every creation has to begin <em>somewhere</em>, after all. Your journey can start <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-recipe-edition/971479/">right here</a>.<br /><br /><br />

<br />Despite the title, this post has nothing to do with <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/30/reflecting-on-prism-light-the-way/">Prism: Light the Way</a>, one of the DS's most interesting but overlooked puzzlers. Circuit City has the game on sale for $9.99 this week, though, so you should totally look into picking it up anyway! <br /><br />For this week's edition of The DS Life, we'll look at several images taken from photographer Patrick Brosset's collection of light painting shots, long-exposure photos taken with streaks of light drawn over the scene. What does this creative technique have to do with the Nintendo DS or gaming? Join us past the break to find out!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/the-ds-life-light-the-way/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Light the Way</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/the-ds-life-light-the-way/">The DS Life: Light the Way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Aug 2008 23:59:00 EST. The look did not need updating at all: <span style="font-style: italic;">Super Star'</span>s colorful, bright graphics hold up today. The new rendered intro scene looks awkward compared to the awesome original graphics.<br /><br />In case <em>Super Star</em> is new to you, <em>Spring Breeze</em> is an abbreviated <em>Kirby </em>platformer in the style of <em>Kirby's Adventure.</em> Kirby walks through a series of levels, sucking up enemies, whose powers he can absorb. The levels all tend to be full of breakable blocks and little secret health items. The main wrinkle to <em>Spring Breeze</em> is the partner system: in addition to stealing abilities, you can also put an enemy into service, fighting alongside you, with his own life bar.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Taking in Kirby Super Star Ultra's new minigames</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/e308-taking-in-kirby-super-star-ultras-new-minigames/">E308: Taking in Kirby Super Star Ultra's new minigames</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 13:15:00 EST. You'd think for all his years of good service, Kirby would deserve a shout-out during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/highlights-from-nintendos-e3-2008-press-conference/">Nintendo E3 2008</a> keynote -- at least a spot in a video montage. But no, Kirb got the shaft, and if you weren't already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kirby-super-star-ultra/">keeping tabs on</a> the pink puff, you'd have no idea Nintendo was releasing a (somewhat) new <em>Kirby</em> title for DS -- one of only five first party DS games scheduled for release during the remainder of the year. Exploring Nintendo's E3 press site, we've discovered confirmation that <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em> (a remake of the <em>ultraless</em> SNES game) is still on track for a September 22 release.<br /><br /><em>Super Star Ultra</em> will feature all of the original game's modes, plus "new adventures," including three, touch-controlled minigames (Kirby Card Swipe, Kirby on the Draw and Snack Tracks) that support up to 4 players via DS Download Play. With multiple cartridges, two players can play the adventure mode, with one assuming the roles of "Helpers," clones of Kirby's foes created with a new ability.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/">Kirby Super Star Ultra</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925449"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925448"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925446"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kirby-super-star-ultra/#925445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/kirby-superstar-18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/overlooked-e3-kirby-super-star-ultra/">Overlooked@E3: Kirby Super Star Ultra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/ds-library-plumps-up-before-e3-kirby-and-millionheir/"><em> Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a> is getting a hefty overhaul from the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/kirby-super-star-returns-on-the-ds/">SNES title</a>, and the pink blob is right in the spotlight with an absolute <em>metric tonne</em> of new media. The above trailer shows all the colorful action right on the DS screens, while the gallery below has a whole range of new screens and character art -- not to mention the snazzy box art.<br /><br />Finally, 'tis the season for release dates (you may have notice the whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e308/">E3 thing</a>): <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em> will be hitting the stores on September 22nd. About damn time, too -- fans have been waiting too long after the brilliance of <em>Canvas Curse</em>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-kirby-loves-super-stardom/">E308: Kirby loves super stardom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. Not only did the Nintendo media blitz descend -- as you'll see for yourself -- but we've also got updated release lists for tons of games, many of which had no release windows set until today. While few of the titles have a firm date, we've got month-long windows on several, and at least one (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/ds-library-plumps-up-before-e3-kirby-and-millionheir/"><em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em></a>) looks to have moved up from the date we previously had on file.<br /><br />Check out the full lists in the gallery below, but be warned: your wallet will cry. <br />Two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gba">Game Boy Advance</a> games have randomly appeared in the Stars Catalogue, leading us to surmise that Nintendo has been spring-cleaning its warehouses and found a bunch of old, unsold stock. <em>Kirby &amp; The Amazing Mirror</em> and <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> are both decent purchases, we suppose, even if the price (5000 Stars each) is steep (you'd need to buy <em>at least</em> 20 DS games to amass that many Stars). We're still waiting on the warehouse with all the sealed Super Famicom consoles to get cleared out (it <em>must</em> exist somewhere).<br /><br />Some other new tat has also been added, including a Pok&eacute;mon sports bag, and three further items that have (inexplicably) sold out: a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/rabbids-to-return-to-ds-may-even-get-noticed/"><em>Raving Rabbids</em></a> T-shirt, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/ds-fanboy-review-pokemon-mystery-dungeon-2/"><em>Pok&eacute;mon Mystery Dungeon</em></a> bookmark, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/cosplay-in-just-minutes-a-day/"><em>Brain Training</em></a> pen. Don't all rush at once, please.<br /><br />[<u>Update 1</u>: And the Kirbster has sold out!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/stars-catalogue-now-offering-gba-titles/">Stars Catalogue now offering GBA titles [Update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST.
