Kirby-themed bubblegum record blown away at PAX

In other news, 536 people blew bubblegum bubbles together. Also, it was a world record for simultaneous bubblegum blowing, which is lovely. The bubblegum blowers blew at PAX to celebrate Kirby's 20th anniversary, and the upcoming release of Kirby's Dream Collection on September 16

We were unsure Nintendo could rustle up enough blowers to blow a world record. But, like the bubblegum, we were blown away, as was the previous record of 304 achieved by Kirkwood Community College in 2010. We're sorry, Kirkwood, but 304 to 536 just blows.

Everyone's hair will be ruined by Nintendo's PAX Prime world record bubble gum attempt

Kirby's twentieth anniversary as a fluffy pink omnivore is coming up, and in addition to releasing a collection of his most popular games, Nintendo will also be attempting to join the Guinness Book of World Records in the little guy's honor.

It shakes out like this: At 1 p.m. Pacific on September 1, Nintendo will try and round up at least 305 people at the PAX Prime Expo Hall Queue Area to beat the world record for "Most People Blowing a Chewing Gum Bubble Simultaneously," which is currently 304 people. An official Guinness adjudicator will be on site to verify the attempt's success or failure. Meanwhile, a college student in a Kirby outfit will be interacting with the crowd and wondering if they've made the right choices in life.

The link between Kirby and bubble gum may be kind of weak (both pink, both round), but having a few hundred people blow bubbles at the same time is a lot more feasible than setting the world record for "Most People Inhaling Live Animals Simultaneously."

Kirby's Dream Collection expectorated into North America Sept. 16

Kirby's Dream Collection will dreamily collect several classic Kirby games starting September 16 in North America. The Wii set includes emulated versions of Kirby's Dream Land 1, 2, and 3, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Super Star, and Kirby 64.

Unlike the Super Mario All-Stars special edition, which was just an SNES ROM on a disc, this also comes with exclusive new material, like challenge stages in the Kirby's Return to Dream Land engine and a virtual museum/timeline. The collection also includes a soundtrack and a booklet.

Nintendo Direct trailers: Kirby's Dream Collection, Professor Layton, and more

Last night during the US Nintendo Direct presentation, we were treated to footage of several new games including the Wii Kirby's Dream Collection and Pikmin 2, the 3DS's Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and the DS's Pokemon Black and White Version 2. There's also a video detailing the eShop's Virtual Console promotion. Find them all after the break!
