Originally scheduled for June, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-the-legacy-collection"><em>Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection</em></a> will arrive via cardboard boxes to North and South America on July 9, publisher Konami announced this afternoon. The PlayStation 3 exclusive bundle includes Metal Gear Solids (or Metal Gears Solid?) 1-4, <em>Peace Walker</em> and <em>VR Missions</em>. The package is priced at $49.99.<br />
<br />
The bundle also includes two Ashley Wood "digital graphic novels" and the 100-page art book featuring the series' marketing art over the past 25 years. <em>The Legacy Collection</em> was previously dated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/05/metal-gear-solid-legacy-collection-coming-to-japan-in-july-incl/">July 11 for Japan</a>, and it appears to include the same items now announced for the Americas.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/metal-gear-solid-the-legacy-collection-priced-dated-for-july-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection priced, dated for July in Americas</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/metal-gear-solid-the-legacy-collection-priced-dated-for-july-i/">Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection priced, dated for July in Americas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 15:15:00 EST. Series creator Hideo Kojima announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> is coming to the PC. Speaking on his HideRadio podcast, Kojima revealed the upcoming port. The news was then confirmed by Platinum Games creative producer Jean Pierre Kellams.<br />
<br />
We'll have further details as we learn them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-confirmed-for-pc/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance confirmed for PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 08:30:00 EST. Konami's third annual pre-E3 show is penciled in for June 6 at 1 p.m. ET, streaming live online via <a href="http://events.konami.com/">Konami's events site</a>, on <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/shows/gamespot-live/?event=konami-pre-e3-show-2013">Gamespot</a> and via the Xbox Live Gamespot app. For the second year in a row, Konami will show off a new trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow-2/"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2</em></a>, which was announced during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/01/konami-officially-announces-castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2/">last year's</a> pre-E3 briefing.<br />
<br />
Konami also plans to show off some behind-the-scenes footage of the next Pro Evolution Soccer game, and will have "new announcements" from Kojima Productions. Kojima recently made a splash with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/29/kojima-explains-metal-gear-solid-5s-mogren-fakeout-hayters/">Joakim Mogren</a> marketing campaign for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-5"><em>Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain</em></a>. Surely nothing will be able to compete with <em>that</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/konami-pre-e3-show-gives-the-scoop-on-mgs5-castlevania-on-june/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Konami pre-E3 show gives the scoop on MGS5, Castlevania on June 6</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/konami-pre-e3-show-gives-the-scoop-on-mgs5-castlevania-on-june/">Konami pre-E3 show gives the scoop on MGS5, Castlevania on June 6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 15:15:00 EST. Hideo Kojima recently put the brakes on the Zone of Enders sequel and revealed a patch is in process for the <em>Zone of Enders HD Collection</em>.<br />
<br />
The <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/zone-of-the-enders-hd-collection">Zone of the Enders HD Collection</a></em> ran into a bit of drama when it was discovered there were some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/zone-of-the-enders-hd-collection-compared-to-source-material/">negative technical disparities</a> between the original games on PS2 and their Xbox 360 and PS3 updates. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/02/we-might-have-to-wait-a-little-longer-for-a-zone-of-the-enders-sequel/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader">Siliconera</a> did the translation work of a recent <a href="http://www.kjp.konami.jp/gs/hideoblog/">podcast</a>, where Kojima stated the team is reworking the game and will release a patch for the PlayStation 3 version. There's no mention of an Xbox 360 patch. No release window for the patch was mentioned.<br />
<br />
Kojima also mentioned that "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/25/zone-of-the-enders-sequel-project-revealed-zoe-hd-out-in-japa/">Enders Project</a>," a sequel in the franchise, has had the entire team taken off of it. He is currently re-evaluating what to do with the series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/zone-of-the-enders-ps3-patch-incoming-enders-project-on-hold/">Zone of the Enders PS3 patch incoming, 'Enders Project' on hold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 May 2013 10:30:00 EST. The talk involved a lot of technical terms we won't pretend to understand (linear workflow, something about "light probes"), but the pictures speak for themselves.<br /><br />Fox Engine allows for some impressive visuals, fueled by some interesting technology. One key component is the ability to scan real-life objects or take pictures of them to easily create in-game models and textures. Kojima Productions created an in-engine mock-up of its own studio conference room, and the result was eerily similar to the real thing. Using an array of cameras, the studio was able to fully scan a little boy into the Fox Engine with surprising fidelity and drop him right inside the virtual conference room alongside Snake and an enemy soldier.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/">Fox Engine panel (GDC 2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/#5773131"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/p1020721_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/#5773132"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/p1020728_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/#5773133"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/p1020754_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/#5773134"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/p1020756_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fox-engine-panel-gdc-2013/#5773135"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/p1020757_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/28/metal-gear-solid-5s-fox-engine-in-pictures/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Solid 5's Fox Engine in pictures</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/28/metal-gear-solid-5s-fox-engine-in-pictures/">Metal Gear Solid 5's Fox Engine in pictures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Mar 2013 11:15:00 EST. Sutherland is most certainly not David Hayter, previous voice talent for Big Boss and Solid Snake since the series' humble beginnings on PlayStation, who's indicated he won't be reprising a starring role.<br /><br />"Well look, at least I had a good run," Hayter <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidBHayter/status/317002108115234816">tweeted</a> today, likely after seeing the news himself. He also <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidBHayter/status/317004226482032641">replied</a> "nope" to another Twitter user, who inquired if Hayter was asked to reprise his roles as voice actor. Snake losing his voice is quite a phantom pain in itself, except for the whole Kiefer Sutherland part.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> To clarify, the supposed voice of Sutherland can be heard from the bandaged man that is guiding Snake in the trailer, not Snake himself. Presumably, another voice actor has replaced Hayter.<br /><br /><strong>Update 2:</strong> Contrary to what Kojima said during the GDC panel today, Konami has confirmed with Joystiq that <em>Ground Zeroes</em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain</em> are indeed separate games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/david-hayter-says-he-wasnt-asked-to-voice-metal-gear-solid-5/">David Hayter says he wasn't asked to voice Metal Gear Solid 5 [update 2: separate games]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 19:30:00 EST. It is <em>Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain</em>, Kojima Productions head Hideo Kojima revealed during a GDC panel today. Kojima told the audience that <em>Metal Gear Solid 5</em> is made up of both <em>Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes</em> and <em>The Phantom Pain</em>, and the influences of both could clearly be seen in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/the-metal-gear-5-the-phantom-pain-trailer/">trailer</a>.<br /><br />The game stars a Snake who has been in a coma for 9 years. Its opening section will be familiar to anyone who's seen the Phantom Pain trailer, as Snake wakes up in a hospital and must escape an unknown enemy. He's accompanied by a man with a bandaged face and a voice that sounds <em>very</em> much like Kiefer Sutherland. Naturally, it's pretty hard for Snake to stand up after 9 years of lying down, so most of his escape (and the GDC demonstration) is spent crawling on the floor.<br /><br />Hallucinations seem to play a role in the game, as Snake spies a woman with a resemblance to Psycho Mantis mystically floating up an empty elevator shaft. The hallway is then engulfed in flame, and Snake and his new friend are accosted by a huge, intimidating man ... who soon spontaneously combusts and disappears. Whether these scenes are real or merely hallucination isn't quite clear.<br /><br />The hospital section serves as a tutorial, after which the game proper begins. Today's demonstration was running on PC.<br /><br /><em>The Phantom Pain</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/07/the-phantom-pain-announced/">revealed</a> during the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards, with many immediately speculating that it was related to Metal Gear.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/metal-gear-solid-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Phantom Pain is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain [update 2: separate games]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/metal-gear-solid-5/">The Phantom Pain is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain [update 2: separate games]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 14:09:00 EST. Maniacal is the best way to play this cutting game, dashing into gunfire and shoving your sword through any obstacle, no matter its size or perceived deadliness. The supporting characters occasionally plead for planning, stealth, restraint - hesitation - but their calls come across as denial against the true nature of <em>Revengeance</em>. They're right in the middle of some seriously sexed up Fruit Ninja fan-fiction.<br /><br />The silly portmanteau is the prelude to a starring role for Raiden, the formerly feeble stand-in for Snake in <em>Metal Gear Solid 2</em>. Following the events of <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em>, which turned him into a twirling killing machine and redeemed him in the eyes of bros everywhere, the fair-haired cyborg works for a protection outfit called Maverick Security Consulting. Their first presidential client in <em>Revengeance</em> is butchered and thrown off a moving train, so I wouldn't recommend them.<br /><br />After an ignominious defeat, Raiden's body is rebuilt with augmented strength, a pristine cyber-butt and a critical reliance on electrolytes, which must be absorbed from glowing enemy spines (unnaturally). It sounds gruesome, but extracting power cords in battle is a clinical process in the mind, and a brilliant hook for an action game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-review-its-just-a-flesh-wound/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance review: It's just a flesh wound</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-review-its-just-a-flesh-wound/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance review: It's just a flesh wound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 04:40:00 EST. Kojima will be joined by <em>Ground Zeroes</em> technical director Junji Tago, lighting artist Masayuki Suzuki, and CG art director Hideki Sasaki.<br /><br />This is a rare coup for GDC; the last time Kojima spoke at the conference was back in 2009, when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/joystiq-live-from-hideo-kojimas-gdc-2009-keynote/">we were wondering</a> if <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> was coming to Xbox 360, and what "the next MGS" would be. Four years on, speculation lingers around the celebrated designer's long-running series after the curious reveal of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/the-phantom-pain-speculation-round-up-metal-gear/">The Phantom Pain</a></em><em>. </em>Whether or not Kojima chooses the venue of GDC to spill any stealthily concealed beans, the talk should provide more than a few exclamation marks to enjoy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/13/kojima-to-deliver-gdc-talk-featuring-first-ever-fox-engine-demo/">Kojima to deliver GDC talk featuring FOX engine demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2013 14:00:00 EST. Specifically, the PlayStation 3 version of <em>Rising</em> is getting <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/02/04/metal-gear-rising-gets-exclusive-vr-missions-on-ps3/">30 exclusive missions</a> that promise "pure, uncut gameplay that pushes Raiden's Cyborg body to its limits." Ironic, as Raiden leaves very little uncut.<br /><br />There will be both action and stealth missions. Some missions will even allow players to control a Dwarf Gekko (AKA "the little ball robot with arms sticking out of it"). We're guessing those are <em>probably</em> stealth missions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/metal-gear-rising-ps3-nabs-exclusive-vr-mission-dlc/">Metal Gear Rising PS3 nabs exclusive VR mission DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 11:00:00 EST. Japanese mag Dengeki PlayStation (via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/01/29/metal-gear-rising-revengance-will-have-vr-missions-as-dlc/">Siliconera</a>) published the news, noting additional content that will revolve around some of the game's supporting cast.<br /><br />VR missions are an apt addition to the <em>Metal Gear</em> series, being included on-disc in the original <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> and receiving top billing in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid#Integral_and_VR_Missions"><em>Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions</em></a> here in North America.<br /><br />If you'd like to undertake your own VR mission, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/15/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-demo-hits-jan-22/">demo</a> for <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em> is available right now, free for Gold subscribers on Xbox Live and for all PlayStation Network users. It's not virtual reality, but if you sit way close to the TV it's <em>kind</em> of similar.<br /><br /><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em> launches on February 19 in North America, February 21 and February 22 across Europe and the UK, respectively.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/report-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-vr-missions-side-charact/">Report: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance VR missions, side character DLC inbound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 19:00:00 EST. Specifically, Kojima would have preferred that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> star series mainstay cyborg ninja <a href="http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Gray_Fox">Gray Fox</a>, rather than Raiden.<br /><br />"It was my staff in Kojima Productions that insisted on Raiden, and I respected their idea," Kojima said. "In my personal opinion, I wanted to go for Frank Jaegar or Gray Fox. But if we had gone with that, I would have had to write the script and then be really committed to creating the game."<br /><br />In the end, passing the torch of crafting Metal Gear's universe to the next generation of developers was of greater importance than ensuring Gray Fox as the star. "I want to pass game development to the younger generation in my team, and have been trying to do so for quite some time. Before I never could give complete responsibilities for other games, but for <em>Revengeance</em>, they are fully in control. Besides, if I had created the game and directed it, it wouldn't have been this game."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/19/kojima-originally-envisioned-gray-fox-as-the-star-of-metal-gear/">Kojima originally envisioned Gray Fox as the star of Metal Gear Rising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Jan 2013 13:30:00 EST. So when Joystiq sat down to chat with them, we only had one important question: How'd it go?<br /><br />Both sides were unsure of the partnership when it began. Korekado said that "the challenge for us was the worry about what kind of game would this end up being," and Inaba told us that Platinum wasn't sure about taking over for Kojima's series on this iteration. But now that all is said and done, both sides also say they not only had a great time, but they'd do it again. "We could not have done that without Platinum Games' expertise, it would not have happened," said Korekado. "So of course, this tag team, we'd love to do it again."<br /><br />Inaba was even more adamant about the two studios working together in the future. "From our side, it would be a waste to not do this again. We made a great game, and we'd love to do it again," he said. He agreed that when the project started, both teams were reticent about joining forces. "But after working together on the game for a while, they were both able to learn from each other and grow as people and as developers. And we feel that's a plus. Moving forward as a team, we'd love to do it again, no doubt." Obviously, nothing's been announced yet, and the goal right now is to get <em>Rising</em> in the public's hands. But it sounds like Platinum and Kojima are ready to make more <em>Metal Gear</em> music together in the future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/07/platinum-and-kojipro-on-partnership-wed-love-to-do-it-again/">Platinum and KojiPro on partnership: 'We'd love to do it again'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Dec 2012 15:00:00 EST. It means that when you find one tool useful for one task, you'll then start applying that tool to other tasks, even if those tasks have tools better suited for the job.<br /><br />Raiden, in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a>, carries a sword as his only tool, and as swords go, it's a nice one. It crackles with a kind of blue electricity, and it can cut through almost every available object in the world, from barrels and crates to palm trees and iron fences.<br /><br />And with such a tool in his grasp, it's not hard to see why Raiden would fall prey to the law of the instrument. Cutting is his currency, and in this Metal Gear spin-off title, Platinum Games and Kojima Productions have sent Raiden on a spending spree.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (12/7/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/#5485114"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/mgrrisingrev016_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/#5485115"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/mgrrisingrev006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/#5485116"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/mgrrisingrev007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/#5485117"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/mgrrisingrev008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-12-7-12/#5485118"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/mgrrisingrev009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/07/solid-slicing-action-in-metal-gear-rising-revengeance/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Solid slicing action in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/07/solid-slicing-action-in-metal-gear-rising-revengeance/">Solid slicing action in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Dec 2012 04:00:00 EST. Mother Base is an updated version of the crew management system first included in <em>Portable Ops, </em>where players could train and manage soldiers.<br /><br />"The concept of developing weapons at your base is a very cool idea, and something that could be popular," Kojima added during a packed developer session at the event. "It's something we've been thinking of."<br /><br />According to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-27-metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-to-feature-base-building-will-support-multiple-devices">Eurogamer</a>, the base will be accessible in-between the open world areas of <em>Ground Zeroes</em>, and that players will have access to the area via the on-call helicopter at Boss' disposal. Once at the base, players will be able to explore it on foot and watch its development.<br /><br />Kojima again showed his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/01/heres-what-we-know-about-the-metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-tr/">previously revealed demo</a> of the game, noting <em>Ground Zeroes</em> was running off a PC with similar specifications to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.<br /><br /><em>Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes</em> is coming to the <strike>PC</strike> Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime in 2013.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/28/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-brings-back-base-building/">Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes brings back base-building</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Sep 2012 17:00:00 EST. We suggest bolstering your resume with some really nicely photographed lunches on your Twitter feed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/kojima-productions-la-hiring-gameplay-programmer/">Kojima Productions LA hiring gameplay programmer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 14:15:00 EST. Sadly, the 360 version of <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/metal-gear-rising-revengeances-xbox-360-version-cancelled-in-j/">isn't</a> going to make it.<br /><br />The PS3 version remains very much alive and kicking and joins <em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em>, <em>Zone of the Enders HD</em>, and <em>Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops </em>as the publisher's highlights. There's no sign of newcomer <em>Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes</em> at the moment.<br /><br />The Tokyo Game Show starts next week, running through September 20-23.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/konami-reveals-tokyo-game-show-line-up-no-ground-zeroes-yet/">Konami reveals Tokyo Game Show lineup, no Ground Zeroes yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 10:45:00 EST. Kojima Productions announced the news today via its website. There the company apologized for the cancellation but didn't give any reasons for it. The 360 version, as Konami confirmed to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-12-konami-confirms-xbox-360-version-of-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-still-on-for-the-west">Eurogamer</a>, remains scheduled for release outside of Japan.<br /><br />It's odd to reflect on a game being cancelled for the platform it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/metal-gear-solid-rising-coming-to-xbox-360/">first announced on</a>, but the news isn't surprising given the 360's poor sales in Japan since then. As our latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/09/stiq-figures-august-27-september-2-tabletop-gaming-edition/">Stiq Figures</a> show, the console only shifted 875 copies last week compared to the PS3's 12,433. Also, while the PS3 version of <em>Metal Gear Solid HD Collection </em>entered Japanese charts in fifth <a href="http://gamasutra.com/view/news/128460/Skyward_Sword_Tops_Japanese_Charts_While_3DS_Sales_Continue_To_Rise.php#.UFBYrbJlSqI">last November</a>, the Xbox 360 version didn't even register in the top 20. While we understand where Konami's coming from, the cancellation of such a high-profile game can't help the console's chances in Japan one bit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/metal-gear-rising-revengeances-xbox-360-version-cancelled-in-j/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's Xbox 360 version cancelled in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 09:00:00 EST. The <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> creator told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-10-metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-open-world-will-have-loading-screens">Eurogamer</a> things like "enemy troop patterns" are noticeably different between daylight and darkness. Kojima also revealed a less inviting feature of the open world, confirming the game has loading screens.<br /><br /><em>Ground Zeroes</em> debuted at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/01/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-gameplay-footage-sneaks-out-of-p/">PAX</a> earlier this month, showcased in a trailer which saw Snake try to infiltrate a compound at night. Whether or not that particular mission is possible during daylight remains to be seen (pun intended), or what other elements are dependent on the time of day.<br /><br />In the meantime, Konami has released some screenshots taken from the trailer, so you can have a hi-res gander right below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/">Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (PAX trailer)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/#5270837"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/zeroes1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/#5270838"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/zeroes2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/#5270839"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/zeroes3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/#5270840"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/zeroes4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-pax-trailer/#5270841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/zeroes5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/10/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-features-day-night-cycles/">Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes features day/night cycles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2012 09:00:00 EST. As you can tell, Snake's ability to stealthily infiltrate a compound and mess up everyone's day has remained in-tact since <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> launched in 2008. <strike>Sorry about the shaky-cam nature of this - Konami wasn't allowing direct streaming of the event, so here we are. "But as far as <em>Rising</em> is concerned, if it works out well, I'd really like to work with Platinum again to make a sequel."<br /><br />Kojima also said that he'd "really love to make" a game with <a href="http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/The_Boss">The Boss</a> as a main character, but that it would be part of the main series if it were to ever happen, rather than a spun-off title like <em>Rising. </em>Kojima couldn't comment on whether Platinum Games would be involved with that game's hypothetical production, only that he's "really loving working with Platinum."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/01/kojima-would-really-like-to-make-a-metal-gear-rising-sequel-wi/">Kojima would 'really like' to make a Metal Gear Rising sequel with Platinum</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Sep 2012 16:39:00 EST. The description meshes with designer Hideo Kojima's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/21/kojimas-project-ogre-takes-place-in-an-open-world/">cryptic commentary</a> on "Project Ogre," which he described as "very free."<br /><br />We can likely expect a more formal demonstration and less secretive video from Kojima Productions in the near future. For now, the Twitter consensus paints the Fox Engine, which powered the demo of <em>Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes</em>, as something deserving of your oohs and aahs.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> First artwork added, with a larger version after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/30/metal-gear-ground-zeroes-reportedly-teased-in-fox-engine-debu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes' reportedly teased in Fox Engine debut [update: first art]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/30/metal-gear-ground-zeroes-reportedly-teased-in-fox-engine-debu/">'Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes' reportedly teased in Fox Engine debut [update: first art]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Aug 2012 03:36:00 EST. The extent of his participation is currently unclear, as is the film's production schedule, plot and likelihood of relying on nanobots to explain all the weird-ass things that happen.<br /><br />The film will come courtesy of Columbia Pictures, and be praised and lambasted in equal measure for its use of 40-minute long "audience participation scenes."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/30/metal-gear-solid-movie-coming-care-of-columbia-pictures/">Metal Gear Solid movie coming, care of Columbia Pictures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Aug 2012 02:17:00 EST. For now, however, the developer and its collaborator, Kojima Productions, are adopting a wait-and-see attitude before adding a third platform to the list.<br /><br />"Right now, honestly, we are doing our best to complete at the same time the PlayStation 3 version and the Xbox 360 version," Kojima Productions creative producer Yuji Korekado said to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-20-konami-to-consider-pc-version-of-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-after-launch-of-console-version">Eurogamer</a>. "For the PC version, we will contemplate making it or not once we reach this goal of completing the PS3 and 360 versions." Korekado added that, should a PC version even happen, it would launch after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions carve out their spot on store shelves on February 19, 2013.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/20/pc-port-for-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-to-be-considered-afte/">PC port for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to be considered after console versions ship</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2012 19:30:00 EST. Anyway it proved I can still create the buzz," concluded the designer, who has never had any problems creating "buzz." Kojipro senior producer Kenichiro Imaizumi also denied the veracity of the images, saying, "I've been asked about the screen shots of MGS5 on the game sites. These're ALL FAKE."<br /><br />Just because that logo's a fake, of course, doesn't mean the game isn't real: Kojima has already been talking about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/20/kojima-we-will-see-about-deus-ex-style-social-interactions-in/">features</a> of the sort-of-announced sequel, and has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/kojima-productions-planning-new-studio-in-california/">hiring</a> for the "'next' MGS."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/17/kojima-leaked-metal-gear-solid-5-logo-is-fake/">Kojima: 'leaked' Metal Gear Solid 5 logo is fake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jul 2012 09:30:00 EST. At least, that'd be a reasonable story to believe - but Konami's saying it's all bunk.<br /><br />After (irresponsibly) tweeting ambiguous notes like, "Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation! ‪#ogre‬ ‪#mgs5," Konami's UK account directly clarified that, "Seriously, just in case the ‪#pinch‬ ‪#salt‬ hashtags weren't enough - the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch," as spotted by <a href="http://www.kotaku.com">Kotaku</a>'s Jason Schreier.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-ogre">Project Ogre</a> is Kojima's current in-development game, though few details are known about its theme, or gameplay, or ... well, much of anything regarding it. Kojima has also spoken of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-5/">fifth Metal Gear Solid game</a>, though its unclear if development of that game is already underway.<br /><br />Whether or not the game was shown behind closed doors, Kojima was definitely at Comic-Con this past weekend, and he appeared to be showing <em>something</em> secret. Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski tweeted, "Just got pulled into a back room at Comic Con by @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and showed some crazy new secret stuff. Wow." We're doing pretty much everything we can right here to not make a lurid joke.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/16/konami-calls-metal-gear-solid-5-comic-con-screens-fake-rumours/">Konami calls Metal Gear Solid 5 Comic-Con screens 'fake rumours,' denies secret reveal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 10:23:00 EST. The company will also have a studio on the show floor, where it will broadcast news, interviews and other content; all available through various social media networks.<br /><br />Gamescom will be the first time the public has the chance to cut up the competition in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</a></em>, which will be avaiable "in the beginning of 2013" for Xbox 360 and PS3. This fall's 3DS game, <em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate</em>, which takes place 25 years after the events of the console <em>Lords of Shadow</em>, will also be available in a "playable version".<br /><br />There's also a soccer game called <em>PES 2013.</em> You know, if Europeans would be into such a thing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-castlevania-los-sequel-publicly/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Castlevania: LoS sequel publicly playable at Gamescom</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-castlevania-los-sequel-publicly/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Castlevania: LoS sequel publicly playable at Gamescom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 10:00:00 EST. Kojima <em>sneaked </em>in a few gameplay and story details as well:<br /><br />"About <em>Metal Gear Solid 5</em>, I can tell you two things," Kojima said. "There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you 'a favor' like in the last Metal Gear Solid.<br /><br />"I liked the idea of social interactions in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces."<br /><br />Kojima also cleared up any remaining confusion (not related to grammar) about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> and its place in the Solid franchise: "<em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance </em>never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid," he said. "This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of <em>Guns of the Patriots</em>."<br /><br />Now <em>that's</em> tough love.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/20/kojima-we-will-see-about-deus-ex-style-social-interactions-in/">Kojima: 'we will see' about Deus Ex-style social interactions in Metal Gear Solid 5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2012 14:30:00 EST.
