X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: KrissX

XBLA eschews strategic and cube-borne violence this week in favor of some simple, peaceful wordplay. Specifically, the only game to hit Xbox Live Arcade this week is KrissX, which, despite our secret hopes and dreams, has nothing to do with the greatest hip-hop duo of all time. No, instead, it's a crossword puzzle game that tasks players with swapping letters and spelling words. It's also surprisingly delightful. Check out the latest episode of XBLA in Brief and see if KrissX deserves your 800 ($10).

This Wednesday: KrissX will make you jump, jump, solve puzzles on XBLA

It's not a good sign when Xbox know-it-all Major Nelson admits in his This Week on Arcade post that "information on the game is light, so here is what I was able to find." However, we can't blame him -- we'd never heard of KrissX, this week's new XBLA game, before today either.

Apparently, the Blitz Games-developed, Konami-published puzzler tasks players with solving crosswords and unscrambling "over 3,500 jumbled words that will test your trivia knowledge and expand your own daily vocabulary." We're automatically apprehensive about games that try to sneak some education into our entertainment regimen -- we'll have to wait and see if KrissX is actually fun enough to deserve our 800 ($10).

Sadly, we don't think the game has anything in common with Kriss Kross' other ludological outing. Someday, friends. Someday.

Blitz Arcade introduces five games probably headed to WiiWare

Blitz Arcade, the casual component of Blitz Games (and the company behind the wonderfully ridiculous Burger King games), will display five new games designed for download services at this month's Casual Connect Conference. It isn't explicitly stated which services these games will be sold through, but they have been "developed to work across PC and console digital distribution platforms."

The games include:

KrissX: A collection of word games starring Wordsworth the Owl.
Encleverment Experiment: A minigame collection that tests "reflexes, memory, visual acuity and mental dexterity."
Buccaneer -- The Pursuit of Infamy: A pirate ship combat game for up to twelve players.
Droplitz: A puzzle game involving rotating dials to create paths. Similar to Pipe Dream.
CodaChain: A musical adventure game starring a DJ who must gather people with various skills to help solve puzzles, with online multiplayer.

CodaChain and Buccaneer sound like standouts, and we have absolutely no problem with more titles on WiiWare. The screens in our gallery are clearly from other platforms, but they at least demonstrate what each game looks like.
