Even considering the "bootleg" feel of it, the video shows some impressive textures with murky, yet reflective water in the developer's introductory game.

The video comes from a recent hour-long presentation at a small Czech gaming conference in Prague. Creative Director Dan Vavra clarified in a recent developer diary that the next-gen label is "somewhat misleading." The small demo was shown on a two-year-old laptop with a mobile GeForce 555M, or as Vavra described it: "Not exactly state-of-the-art PC or next gen Xbox." The area shown is 200 x 200 meters, and according to Vavra it "doesn't have the final lighting and there are no effects in it. It's simply an example of the environment."

While the game is expected to run on next-gen consoles, Vavra sternly noted that the environment video is "not at all originally intended officially to support the claim that 'this is what next gen should look like.'"
Warhorse Studios 'next-gen' tech video leaked originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 16 Dec 2012 15:00:00 EST. The rumored project was canceled, and leaked concept art pieces supposedly from that game were recently found by Siliconera, such as the one seen above, which can be seen at the source link below.

While it's nice to look at what could have been, Slant Six ultimately survived and launched free-to-play and Activision Mobile-published iOS game The Bowling Dead in late November this year.
Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront Online concept art leaked out originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 15 Dec 2012 21:00:00 EST. As you might have guessed, the posted trailer was entirely a work in progress, with most assets and even the script likely set to be replaced before it appeared before the public.

The trailer itself would have been a launch trailer, likely also released with some in-game or hands-on footage, and the illustrated look seen in the trailer was planned to be a characteristic of the game itself, used to introduce the game's various races and factions.

As for the tri-circle logo, which seems very similar to the recently revealed Elder Scrolls Online logo: Danuser says the design is coincidental, and that the two MMOs were using the same themes. 38 Studios' logo was put together before anyone from the team saw what Zenimax Online was working on. "That's what you get," says Danuser, who fondly remembers working on putting the trailer together, "for basing your IP on classic themes."
Former 38 Studios Creative Director provides context for leaked trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Jul 2012 19:35:00 EST.

SoulCalibur 5's character roster has, historically, been chock-full of leaks. Clandestine screenshots were responsible for revealing Ezio and Raphael, and now it looks as though three new fighters may have been uncovered in an extremely similar fashion.

Two images, culled from NeoGAF's depths, show <strike>the most hated man in the world</strike> fan-favorite Kilik (sporting a shiny new bird hat), as well as newcomer Elysium, an angelic female of some kind who sports very little of anything. Speculation suggests that both characters will be "mimic characters" who are able to emulate the fighting styles of any other character, but at this point that appears to be unfounded.

Considering SC5's track record with character selection screenshots, however, we're cautiously optimistic regarding the validity of these photos. Check out the gallery below for high-resolution versions.

Gallery: SoulCalibur 5 (Elysium and Kilik leak, Ultra-HR)

Rumor: Kilik and Elysium added to Soulcalibur 5 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Jan 2012 20:00:00 EST. Borderlands 2 is running on a platform of trimmed fat and effective economics -- it will be better, Gearbox says, it will be meaner and it will fix all of the problems of its predecessor. We've all heard promises like this one before, but if the leaked gameplay video above is anything to go by, Borderlands 2 has our vote.

The video shows 14 minutes of Borderlands 2, featuring new weapons such as a disposable, regenerative, Wal-Mart-inspired rifle, a new character in Maya the Siren, an old character in Roland, and new enemies, such as the torturer Nomad, who uses a midget as a meat-shield. Check out the stunning new art style and gameplay mechanics of Borderlands 2 above, and don't forget to <strike>vote in 2012</strike> pre-order before it drops after April 2012!

Borderlands 2 leaked gameplay video is 14 minutes of amazing midget-massacre originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 03 Sep 2011 15:30:00 EST. There's a slight possibility that yesterday, somewhere in Los Angeles, a very nervous person was holding a shaky camera in a dark room, where details on the upcoming Nintendo console were discussed. Though it's a fact that Nintendo held an event for developers in Los Angeles yesterday (as reported by Tiny Cartridge) we're highly suspicious of the YouTube video surfacing with supposed "Project Cafe" information.

A black splash screen opens the video with the dubious statement, "Private presentation of 'Project Cafe' by a video games editor," before approximately 40 seconds of similarly dubious slides are shown just feet above what is alleged to be a running "Project Cafe" unit. The slides depict some things you might expect, as well as some things that we very much doubt would leak. Seeing the rumored giant screen-equipped controller in action with an unidentifiable game, for instance, is especially hard to believe. More believable is the bland presentation of the console's dimensions, as well as specs for the aforementioned controller, though the clip taken in entirety is very hard to trust.
The video embedded after the break was purportedly leaked from Blizzard Entertainment's Korean arm, and shows a longer look at Diablo 3's follower system, in which players can hire characters to help them with all of the hacking and slashing. As you can see in the video, there are a few different follower classes to choose from, including Enchantress, Scoundrel and Templar. The UI screens hint that you'll be able to equip weapons and rings on these characters, as well as choose various skills for them to use at different levels.

Their appearance will also evidently change over time, though it's not clear whether that's determined simply by level, by equipment, by skills chosen or some combination of all three. Earlier builds of the game suggested you could hire more than one follower, but this glimpse shows only one at a time.

The original poster of the video on YouTube reports that Blizzard has now "officially released" it after confirming the leak, but there's no sign of it on the official website yet, and we haven't heard anything official. If we do, we'll let you know.

Update: Here's the official page. Looks like we were right: only one at a time, though each follower has their own story that "entwines" with yours as you play the game. Sounds fun!
Continue reading Rumor: Leaked Diablo 3 promotional video shows off 'followers'

Rumor: Leaked Diablo 3 promotional video shows off 'followers' originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 12 May 2011 19:30:00 EST. Unfortunately, it seems that the death of 3D Realms was the best way for us to get our hands on the largest collection of Duke Nukem Forever screens we've ever seen, and now, footage of the game in action. Found on ex-3D Realms employee Bryan Brewer's personal website (found after the break due to its NSFW-ness), we're treated to the ubiquitous pig cops (now with the ability to jump and climb, apparently) as well as a variety of Duke vulgarities you likely won't want your mother to hear.

If anything, the footage proves that a ton of different gameplay was actually finished and -- we're not gonna lie here -- looks pretty decent. We didn't spot any jetpack totin' reptilian enemies unfortunately, but we can only presume the folks at 3D Realms were waiting until the last possible minute to show off such nostalgia laden insanity. Wait, isn't right now the last possible minute?

Gallery: Duke Nukem Forever - Chris Smith Unreleased Concept Art

Continue reading Duke Nukem Forever gameplay surfaces, requests we 'come get some'

Duke Nukem Forever gameplay surfaces, requests we 'come get some' originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 10 May 2009 11:30:00 EST. You might want to stop reading this now, and check out the video posted after the break. You see, when dealing with leaked gameplay footage posted on content-removal-friendly YouTube, time is seriously of the essence -- particularly when that footage was shamelessly yoinked (no, not by us) from a closed-doors GDC panel showing off the highly anticipated Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

In case it gets pulled before you can lay eyes upon it, here's a brief recap: The footage shows the familiar gunplay and monkey-esque environment navigation from the original, though this particular clip eschews the jungles and tombs of Uncharted the First in favor of a war-torn urban locale. The series' sleek animations are even sleeker, and the gunshootery looks a bit more responsive. Also, Nate's apparently developed the ability to survive point-blank explosions. We can't wait to see how this invulnerability factors in to the game's story.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
Continue reading GDC09: Leaked Uncharted 2 gameplay shows urban gunplay, acrobatics

GDC09: Leaked Uncharted 2 gameplay shows urban gunplay, acrobatics originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 28 Mar 2009 12:15:00 EST. It took no time at all but the New Xbox Experience has been leaked onto the internet. According to tipsters, someone who was invited to the NXE has made the update available in downloadable form online which -- like all other Xbox 360 dashboard updates -- has the ability to update any console with a USB thumb drive.

If you're thinking of grabbing the update, think again. According to Major Nelson using the leaked update disables Xbox Live on a console until November 19, the actual release of NXE. With Gears of War 2 just around the corner, you wouldn't want to take your console off the grid would you? While no reported bans have been handed down since the leak showed up it isn't hard to imagine Microsoft could take you offline for good. You've been warned.

[Update: Major Nelson wrote on his twitter, "If you get your hands on NXE and you are NOT in the Preview Program. You won't be allowed on LIVE." We will not be linking any websites with information or links to download the NXE - hence the replacement of Major Nelson from the original source in this story. Users who leave links to such content in the comments will have them swiftly removed.]
NXE leaked, installation disables Live until November 19 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 23:30:00 EST. The biggest news that came from the multiplayer video (which we re-embedded for your analyzing pleasure) was the game's graphics and a look at an un-announced map Last Resort, which is a re-creation of Halo 2's Zanzibar. But that's not all we learned, oh no. There is much more to see.

We got our hands on a much higher res version of the leaked beta video and analyzed every frame of it, looking for new Halo 3 information. And we came away quite satisfied with a list of new Halo 3 beta tidbits that are posted after the break. Is the list complete? We doubt it, but that's why we want your help. If you noticed something that we missed in the leaked Halo 3 beta video (embedded above) simply leave us a comment. We'll keep an eye on your comments and update our post if we feel your new info was something we missed. As we always say, teamwork FTW! So, make your way to the break already ... new Halo 3 information awaits.

Update 1 & 2: Fixed embedded video code above and updated the list.
Continue reading Halo 3 beta video gets a complete analysis [update 2]

Halo 3 beta video gets a complete analysis [update 2] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 24 Apr 2007 02:10:00 EST.
Penguins are as popular as sugar substitutes lately and so it's no surprise that Sony Pictures is making a penguin movie called Surf's Up. It's also no surprise that a game based on the movie is being created. Especially since screens and info on the game were part of the leaked Ubisoft files from last year. Ubisoft seems to be doing a lot of licensed games lately, we'll have to see how this week's TMNT turns out to garner an opinion on whether they're interested in making them more than just cash-ins.

Hot off the screen grab black market, we've received some fresh Halo 3 alpha screenshots for your viewing pleasure. German website Evo-X posted seven un-seen screen grabs of the Halo 3 alpha build. And surprisingly enough, the quality of the shots is pretty good. From these new screens we noticed the HUD has a slight concave effect and can clearly see the new spike grenades situated on the top left. There are also a few shots that showcase a letter/number combination over teammates heads, which is either their login name, some sort of alpha crud, or has something to do with the rumored military rank. Ok, enough reading already! We're proud to present all seven leaked Halo 3 alpha screen grabs after the jump ... but remember guys these are shots of the alpha version.

Update 1: It looks like Evo-X has crippled under the server stress. We know that soldiers spend a lot of their free time playing games -- with Halo near the top of their list -- so who better to test drive the latest outing? Lucky for us there are certain realities of modern life. Namely, if something is supposed to be secret we can be guaranteed pics and blurry video footage! In an interview with Kristen Bell, IGN TV asks about her roles in Veronica Mars, Fanboys, and the upcoming not-so-PS3 exclusive (yes, we're going to keep saying that) Assassin's Creed. Everything in the interview seems pretty safe, no real dirty secrets revealed, that is until Kristen talks about her roll in Assassin's Creed, where she gives a little glimpse into what the story is really about saying ...

It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it? And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into people's brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is.

So there you have it. Assassin's Creed may not only be about killing in the Crusades, but may be a sci-fi mind traveling adventure where you go back to live the life of your assassin ancestors ... and yes that came out of left field. Commence discussion as we're out to find the meaning of life, why cockroaches are so ugly, and why the Matrix movies got progressively worse.
Doh!

WarioWare: Smooth Moves is to utilize a 'pass-the-Wiimote' 12-player multiplayer mode and Mii support (which we already knew).

The Wii Play bundle everyone else is getting has finally been confirmed for a January release in North America and will be bundled with the Wiimote.

A new baseball game has been revealed in The BIGS, which is set to release in Q3 2007 and will support online gameplay. It is being handled by 2K Sports and Big Castle Games.

In response to the alleged leak, the site has issued the following PSA:

"Forgetting that pirating is a criminal activity, 'Final Fantasy XII' is supposed to be an absolutely incredible RPG -- we strongly encourage gamers to wait a few more weeks for the real game to properly reward Square Enix for their labored work."

We can't think of a better way to put it.
