The <em>Legend of Zelda</em> 25th Anniversary concert series <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/the-legend-of-zelda-symphonies-to-be-held-across-the-country-for/">is continuing its journey around the United States</a>, and the show is so popular that it's added four new dates to the proceedings. In addition to <a href="http://www.ticketmaster.com/search?q=zelda">all of the dates already listed</a>, the show is coming to Denver on April 7, Vancouver, Canada on March 14, Phoenix, AZ on April 20, and finally Atlanta, GA on May 12.<br />
<br />
The concert features a full-length four-part symphony of <em>Legend of Zelda</em> music performed by a full-sized orchestra. Reviews on Ticketmaster's site are great so far, so if you're interested in seeing the show you'd better send that boomerang out to grab them quickly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/05/zelda-25th-anniversary-symphony-coming-to-denver-vancouver-atl/">Zelda 25th anniversary symphony coming to Denver, Vancouver, Atlanta and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 08:00:00 EST. Link, a young boy from the floating island of Skyloft, sets out on a journey to find his childhood friend in <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword">The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword</a>. </em>Both he and Zelda ultimately find themselves on a destined mission handed down by an ancient goddess. At Link's side is a magical sword possessing the spirit of Fi, a servant and aid sent by the goddess herself.<br />

To celebrate 25 years of Octorok abuse, Nintendo has launched a commemorative website. The <a href="http://www.zelda.com/25th">Zelda 25th Anniversary site</a> is home to a mess of goodies aimed at your nostalgia core, including an interactive history of the series, some wallpapers and a video of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/nintendo-e3-keynote/">the 2011 E3 keynote</a> where a live symphony played music from the games.<br />
<br />
For you more artistic types, Nintendo is also asking for your <em>Zelda</em>-themed <em>Flipnote Studios</em> animations, with the best entries receiving top billing on the Zelda 25th site. You can also send in a paper drawing, if you prefer, but we don't know if that'll actually make it onto the site. <em>Flipnote Studios</em>, as you may recall, is available as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/nintendo-to-let-users-upload-dsi-animations/">a free download</a> on the DSi and DSi XL. Nintendo will take submissions from now on through September 9.<br />
<br />
The 25th Anniversary site is live right now, so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/nintendo-e3-keynote/">click over</a> if you're looking to take a trip down memory lane. Or, if you're like us and have had enough, feel free to <a href="http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/octorokabuse/">sign our petition</a>. If we don't help the Octorok, who will?!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/08/nintendo-celebrates-zeldas-25th-with-new-website/">Nintendo celebrates Zelda's 25th with new website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 17:40:00 EST. We're wishing a happy 25th birthday today to one of gaming's seminal works: <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>The Legend of Zelda</em></a>. On February 21, 1986, Nintendo released the game in Japan, and since then we've all hunted down keys, slashed monsters with Master Swords, and bought bombs from random old men. The series has spanned more than 15 games, countless comics and spin-offs, and even -- <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPxY8lpYAUM"><em>excuuuse</em> me princess</a> -- a TV series.<br />
<br />
You've got a few options for celebration: Maybe <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/zelda-week-possibly-the-best-gaming-cake-ever/">make a Triforce cake</a> to eat, browse through <a href="http://technologizer.com/2011/02/21/legend-of-zelda/">this gallery of Zelda oddities</a> or <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-retrospective/5269">this video retrospective series</a>, or watch the TV shows, <a href="http://www.hulu.com/watch/112031/the-legend-of-zelda-the-ringer">all available on Hulu</a>. Us? We'll be watching <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNtuK4CU3ko">old <em>Zelda</em> commercials on YouTube</a>. In the wise words of the rapping nerd, "It's <em>The Legend of Zelda</em>, and it's really rad."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/the-legend-of-zelda-turns-25-today-celebrate-in-your-own-specia/">The Legend of Zelda turns 25 today, celebrate in your own special way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Feb 2011 21:15:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">It's our sincere hope that if the Super Mario Bros. ever actually did show up in our world, they wouldn't look <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros._%28film%29">anything like Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo</a> -- instead, we'd really prefer they look something like what you see above: Two papercraft statues <a href="http://touchfuzzygetdizzy.deviantart.com/art/Super-Smash-Brothers-164509728?q=&amp;qo=">put together by DeviantArt-ist TouchFuzzyGetDizzy</a>. Definitely click the Source link below to see these guys as big as possible. The actual statues are 40 and 50 centimeters tall, and with the detail on them, you're probably looking at quite a bit of paper.<br />
<br />
If you want to try cutting, folding, and pasting them together yourself, you're welcome to -- the creator has uploaded patterns of each, though he warns that there are no instructions to go along with them yet. It was almost too obvious: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3d-dot-game-heroes"><em>3D Dot Game Heroes</em></a> looks a lot like <em>Zelda</em>, it lets you make characters, boom: You put Link in it. Done. But like all innovations that were so natural as to be almost self-evident, someone had to be first. In our case, that someone is <a href="http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/04/08/link-invades-3d-dot-games-hero.aspx">Game Informer's Tim Turi</a>, whose achievement you can find after the break.<br />
<br />
Congratulations, Tim. It may have been obvious, but that's what they said about going to the moon and <a href="http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/bio/buzz-aldrin/400889"><em>now</em> who's on <em>Dancing With The Stars</em></a>, eh?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/08/game-informer-puts-link-in-3d-dot-game-heroes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Game Informer puts Link in 3D Dot Game Heroes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/08/game-informer-puts-link-in-3d-dot-game-heroes/">Game Informer puts Link in 3D Dot Game Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Apr 2010 22:00:00 EST. Man, we hope your hearts are wearing some light, loose-fitting clothing, because they're about to get <em>warmed</em>. <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2010/03/03/dnt.blind.gamer.beats.zelda.wis">CNN recently aired a video report</a> on mild-mannered Roy Williams, a young man whose love of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a> is surpassed only by his love of doing awesome, considerate things. Like, for instance, playing <em>Ocarina of Time</em> blindfolded, and writing a guide on how to play the game by only using sound clues, so that a visually impaired gamer living in another country can topple Ganon's tyrannical reign. <br />
<br />
Transcribing <em>OoT</em> in this manner took Williams and "three other diehard gamers" <em>two years</em>, but allowed Jordan Verner, a blind gamer living in Ontario, to finish the game for the first time. If that doesn't make you just a little <em>verklempt</em>, then you probably have robot parts where your heart should be.<br />
<br />

Speaking to <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/02/nintendo-dunaway/">GameLife</a>, Dunaway said, "If you compare the first half of 2010 with the first half of 2009, it's night and day. And from some of the things that Mr. Iwata has talked about, and things that we will talk about at E3, like <cite>Zelda</cite>, you know that we're going to have a good back half of the year, as well." So then, <em>Zelda</em> in the back half of 2010? Yes, please.<br />
<br />
In regards to North American releases of RPGs <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xenoblade">Xenoblade</a> </em>and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-last-story"><em>The Last Story</em></a>, Dunaway somewhat baffling said, "It's too early to say whether we're going to bring those here" -- even though Nintendo of America already announced <em>Xenoblade</em> back at E3 2009 when it was called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/nintendo-sneaks-out-monado-beginning-of-the-world-trailer/"><em>Monado: Beginning of the World</em></a>. It's possible Dunaway simply misspoke, or she just forgot about <em>Monado</em> -- like everyone else in the world.<br />

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that it'll be awarding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shigeru-miyamoto">Shigeru Miyamoto</a> with <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/33971/Miyamoto-awarded-BAFTA-Fellowship">the storied BAFTA Fellowship award</a>, which is "the highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for their creative work." Miyamoto will receive the award in a ceremony next month. It's a pretty high honor for his work in film and television, which includes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/mega-64s-ruined-mario-skit/">this Mega64 video</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Super_Mario_Bros._Super_Show!">this old kids' television series</a>.<br />
<br />
Oh wait, no -- it's actually part of the British Academy's Video Games Awards, and it is honoring him as the creator of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/donkey-kong"><em>Donkey Kong</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario"><em>Mario Bros.</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>The Legend of Zelda</em></a>. That makes much more sense. Nobody should be giving <em>anyone</em> awards for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros._%28film%29">the <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> movie</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/miyamoto-recognized-with-prestigious-bafta-fellowship/">Miyamoto recognized with prestigious BAFTA Fellowship</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 22:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo">Nintendo</a> is one of a few companies to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/nintendo-and-sony-stocks-drop-following-earnings-reports/">release its earnings report</a> earlier this week, and <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/01/29/nintendo_release_calendar">a supplemental report released today</a> has some surprises and new information for Wii owners. Not only does it finally list a target date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metroid-other-m"><em>Metroid: Other M</em></a> (you can expect it as soon as summer of this year if all goes according to plan), but there are two brand new names in the list as well: <em>Xenoblade</em> and <em>The Last Story</em>. <em>Xenoblade</em> is listed for a Spring 2010 release, so we should be hearing about that one soon, and <em>The Last Story</em> is listed for sometime this year, with both slated for release on the Wii in Japan. There's reason to believe these are just new names, as both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monado-beginning-of-the-world"><em>Monado: Beginning of the World</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cosmic-walker"><em>Cosmic Walker</em></a> are missing from the report, and <em>Monado</em> was being developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monolith-soft">Monolith Soft</a>, known most notably for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenosaga_Episode_I:_Der_Wille_zur_Macht">another <em>Xeno</em>- title</a> you may have heard of. But <em>Monado</em> is still listed for a release in the US this year, so who knows?<br />
<br />
Other than that, the report lists some titles we expected to see soon: A new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kirby-super-star"><em>Kirby</em><em> Super Star</em></a> title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy-2"><em>Super Mario Galaxy 2</em></a>, the Wii's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/golden-sun-ds-in-the-works-for-2010/"><em>Golden Sun</em></a> for DS, and a few other releases scheduled in 2010. Full list of Japanese Wii releases is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/nintendo-report-hints-at-new-wii-titles-other-m-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo report hints at new Wii titles, Other M release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/nintendo-report-hints-at-new-wii-titles-other-m-release/">Nintendo report hints at new Wii titles, Other M release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 23:15:00 EST. Let's get this straight: There are rumors about video games, and then there are <em>crazy internet rumors</em> about video games that are so intriguing you can't help but get excited about them, even though you don't believe they're anything more than products of an overactive fan imagination. This post is about the second kind.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://thewiire.com/blog/post/6183-rumor-new-zelda-wii-details-leaked">Information has bubbled up</a> from the Japanese <a href="http://www.2chan.net/">2chan</a> message board about the new Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda,@wii"><em>Zelda</em></a> game and, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2chan">2chan</a>'s record on rumors hasn't been bad (they've broken information on Japanese anime, <em>Resident Evil</em> and other games that later turned out to be true), these rumors are crazy. Like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/majoras-mask"><em>Majora's Mask</em></a> crazy. See what we mean after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/rumor-zelda-wii-to-be-majoras-mask-sequel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Zelda Wii to be Majora's Mask sequel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/rumor-zelda-wii-to-be-majoras-mask-sequel/">Rumor: Zelda Wii to be Majora's Mask sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. We don't get why somebody would do such a thing, but this mod by Flotonic, which inserts the space bounty hunter from <em>Metroid</em> into <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em>, is pretty nifty nonetheless. The only issue is that the brief video clip -- which you can watch past the break -- doesn't show Samus pulling off any of her classic moves in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ocarina-of-time"><em>Ocarina of Time</em></a>. She doesn't morph into a ball and she doesn't fire a single shot from her arm cannon, but oh boy does she look good in the game.<br />

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has offered the first concrete information about the next DS system -- as in, not the next <em>revision</em> of the current DS, but the true <em>next Nintendo handheld system -- </em> in an interview with the <em>Asahi Shimbun</em> newspaper. "[It will have] highly detailed graphics," Iwata said, "and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing." Sort of like the iPhone, yes, but Nintendo isn't exactly an also-ran in the field of motion-controlled gaming. Iwata declined to specify a release window for this <em>DS2</em> -- or a better name than our suggestion.<br />
<br />
Iwata also addressed potential service changes for both the current DS network and its successor, suggesting that there would be no "monthly service plan" offered for games. He indicated that Nintendo was looking to increase the number of businesses that host DS Wi-Fi hotspots instead of supporting a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/iwata-voices-interest-in-kindle-like-free-3g-service-for-ds/">3G-like service</a> (&agrave; la Kindle or iPhone) for the DS. The "<a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/mcdonalds-nintendo-partnership-goes-nationwide-in-japan-with-new/">Mac de DS</a>" service Nintendo provides in partnership with McDonald's offers free wireless connections for the handheld, along with exclusive downloadable content.<br />
<br />
In Wii news, Iwata dropped one bomb that will delight fans ... and one that will probably initiate eyerolls. First, the good news: The new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda,@wii"><em>Zelda </em>game</a> -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/miyamoto-zelda-wii-coming-in-2010-at-the-earliest/">sort of revealed</a> at E3 last year -- is scheduled for release by the end of 2010. And now, <em>that</em> other news: The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/iwata-vitality-sensor-coming-not-too-late-in-2010/">Wii Vitality Sensor</a>, the bizarre biofeedback attachment <em>also</em> unveiled at E3, will be released somewhere in the neighborhood of July, following a press conference about the device.<br />

Aside from efforts like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-conduit"><em>The Conduit</em></a> and <i>Call of Duty: World at War</i>, Nintendo's Wii hasn't exactly enjoyed a glut of capable FPS titles. According to a recent interview with games[TM] (via <a href="http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2119/aonuma-wanted-to-make-crossbow-training-2">NowGamer</a>), <em>Zelda</em> director Eiji Aonuma recognizes this -- and sees great potential for fixing that problem in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/links-crossbow-training">Link's Crossbow Training</a></em>, the pack-in minigame included with the Wii Zapper. "To tell you the truth, I actually wanted to create <em>Link's Crossbow Training 2</em> ... I thought that we should do something more and better in the field of the first-person shooter." Wait, haven't we heard this <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/miyamoto-links-crossbow-training-is-fps-training/">before</a>? <br />
<br />
Unfortunately for Aonuma, the execs above him at Nintendo didn't think much of the idea, nixing it in favor of a completely new entry in the <em>Zelda</em> series. "I was thinking that maybe we could intensify the multiplayer mode ... [but] a lot of people inside Nintendo insisted that I should work on a new <em>Legend of Zelda</em> title." We're sorry about that, Mr. Aonuma! And to the Nintendo executives who killed a sequel to <em>Link's Crossbow Training</em>, we'd like to personally thank you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/26/nintendos-aonuma-pitched-links-crossbow-training-2/">Nintendo's Aonuma pitched Link's Crossbow Training 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Dec 2009 19:00:00 EST. <em>Legend of Zelda</em> series director <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Eiji-Aonuma/">Eiji Aonuma</a> says in <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/aonumas-regrets-for-twilight-princess">the latest Edge magazine</a> that the scale of the upcoming Wii release is what's foremost in his team's mind during development. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess"><em>Twilight Princess</em></a>, he says, was the first <em>Zelda</em> game where they went for a more realistic feel in terms of size and scope of the world, and yet he feels that they weren't quite able to adapt all of their gameplay ideas to that larger space. As opposed to the DS-based <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spirit-tracks"><em>Spirit Tracks</em></a>, which Aonuma says started out in a much more traditional place, and thus was a little easier to "realize."<br />
<br />
Aonuma says his team is starting out with a larger, grander world in the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda,wii">Wii <em>Zelda</em></a>, and from there hopes to fill it up with all sorts of <em>Zelda</em>-esque game ideas. Eiji Aonuma has spent a lot of time developing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a> games. In fact, he's been in a managerial role on the franchise ever since the series' arguably most popular installment, <em>The Ocarina of Time</em>. So when Mario creator (and his boss) Shigeru Miyamoto asked Aonuma and his team to develop an "Ura Zelda" (a flipped version of <em>Ocarina of Time</em> -- what would eventually become the <em>Master Quest</em>), Aonuma protested. Miyamoto's compromise, though, instead turned out to be a much greater challenge -- produce a sequel to <em>OoT</em> within one year. <br />
<br />
"We were supposed to make its sequel in a year ... at first, we had absolutely no idea what sort of thing we were supposed to make, and we just kept expanding our plans," Aonuma told Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata during a recent <a href="http://www.nintendodsi.com/iwataasks/vol10_page1.html">Iwata Asks</a> column."in the beginning, it was all trial and error ... ultimately, we adopted the 'three-day system,' and made it so that, if you couldn't clear the game inside of three days, the world was destroyed." Aonuma claims this concept was what allowed <em>Majora's Mask</em> to be created and released just 18 months after <em>OoT</em> came out. He also adds that lessons he learned from the development of <em>Majora's Mask</em> -- from having to remember a sequence of events in order to proceed, to "deep, compact play" -- helped to shape the development of the most recent Zelda release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spirit-tracks"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</em></a>. <br />
<br />
We'd like to say that Aonuma will have a break from the series after serving as producer on <em>Spirit Tracks</em>, but he's the man in charge of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/zelda-producer-teases-surprises-for-next-title-at-e3-2010/">upcoming <em>LoZ</em> game</a> for the Wii. We're sorry, Mr. Aonuma! Keep on truckin'!<br />

Though we may not be steadfast watchers of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/late-night-with-jimmy-fallon">Jimmy Fallon's late night talkshow</a>, we have to give the man credit for once again bringing the world of gaming into his decidedly non-gaming television show. While Robin Williams guested on Fallon's show this week, he asked the hairy-handed comedian about his gaming habits - some of which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/14/robin-williams-is-a-sniper-in-battlefield-2/">we've covered in the past</a> - and found out that not only does the man play his fair share of <em>Call of Duty</em>, but he also named his daughter "Zelda" after ... well, <em>the</em> Princess Zelda. <br />
<br />
"My daughter is named after a video game ... Zelda, Princess Zelda. I don't call her Princess Zelda ... only occasionally ... but she's named after <em>Zelda</em>." So forget about your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/23/omg-shia-labeouf-totally-not-into-the-wii/">LaBeoufs</a> and your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/eliza-dushku-games-acceptable-and-cool-for-grown-ups/">Dushkus</a> - Robin Williams is holding it down <em>hardcore</em> and <em>old-school</em> for all of Hollywood.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/28/robin-williams-plays-call-of-duty-named-his-daughter-zelda-gue/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Robin Williams plays Call of Duty, named his daughter Zelda (guess why!)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/28/robin-williams-plays-call-of-duty-named-his-daughter-zelda-gue/">Robin Williams plays Call of Duty, named his daughter Zelda (guess why!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Nov 2009 21:30:00 EST. In fact, she travels with you the whole time ... in spirit! <br /> <br /> In one of the craziest <em>Zelda</em> trailers we've ever seen, some wizard shows up and turns Zelda into a ghost, and then she sort of mopes around as an apparition until some guy with wheels suggests that she go on a road trip with Link. If you were wondering how Link could gain control of the Phantoms in this upcoming DS game, it's not through a musical instrument he finds in a treasure chest (the usual <em>Zelda</em> route), but rather it's because <em>Princess Zelda possesses them</em>.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287111"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287112"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery1-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287113"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452079"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/zelda-spirit-tracks-trailer-now-with-more-zelda/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zelda: Spirit Tracks trailer, now with more Zelda</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/zelda-spirit-tracks-trailer-now-with-more-zelda/">Zelda: Spirit Tracks trailer, now with more Zelda</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 10:59:00 EST. Nintendo's resident legend, Shigeru Miyamoto, has revealed that the next installment in the <em>Legend of Zelda </em>series on Wii will make use of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-motionplus">Wii MotionPlus</a> for more realistic sword combat and targeting. "In this (installment of the series), we're using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you're actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand," Miyamoto disclosed during an October 30 <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/events/091030qa/index.html">Q&amp;A session</a>, as translated by <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/11/zelda-wii/">GameLife</a>.<br />
<br />
"In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we'll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience," Miyamoto added.<br />
<br />
Despite these revelations, Nintendo has yet to officially state whether Wii MotionPlus will be an option or a requirement for playing the game. When this next <em>Zelda</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/miyamoto-zelda-wii-coming-in-2010-at-the-earliest/">announced</a> during E3 2009, Miyamoto could only say that MotionPlus-exclusivity was "possible." These gameplay elements -- especially the swordplay -- only make it seem more likely.<br />

Arguably the two biggest titles set to release on their respective platforms this year, <em>New Super Mario Bros. Wii</em> and <em>The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</em> have both been <a href="http://nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2009/link_and_mario_make_their_return_this_christmas_as_nintendo_announces_the_autumnwinter_line-up_14710.html">dated</a> by Nintendo of Europe. <em>NSMBW</em> is set to invade living rooms on November 20, while <em>Spirit Tracks</em> will be pulling into the station on December 11. But that's not all, as Nintendo has also dated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit-plus"><em>Wii Fit Plus</em></a> for October 30 and plans to cater to your inner fashionista with <em>Nintendo Presents Style Boutique</em> on October 23.<br />
<br />

Remember how frustrated you were when you tried to build that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/papercraft-links-useless-against-dodongos/">tiny papercraft Link</a>? Yeah, well this guy made a <em>life-size</em> statue of Link ... <a href="http://www.papercraftmuseum.com/life-sized-link-images/">out of paper</a>. <em>Paper</em>. Just look at it. It's insanity. Seriously, if someone handed you a pile of card stock and asked you to build insanity, it would turn out like this. Sure, it's <em>awesome</em> and everything but ... damn.<br /> <br /> If you can feel your grip on reality slipping a little every day, then feel free to download the detailed plans to craft your own right <a href="http://www.papercraftmuseum.com/life-sized-link/">here</a>. Having heard the cries of the internet, the <a href="http://www.happyseamstress.com/">Happy Seamstress</a> has revealed the secrets of her <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/06/were-having-a-baby-so-we-can-make-this-link-costume/">baby-sized Link costume</a>. The pattern that sent our desire for a spawn into overdrive is now available -- for free. The incredibly detailed instructions should now immediately be given to your friend with +3 knitting skill. You can also leave a donation for the pattern on the Happy Seamstress' site. <br /><br />The outfit appears to take a little time to complete and we understand that making a baby usually takes about nine months, if you want to make one of your own. Wait, what? It requires <em>two</em> people? That complicates things.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.happyseamstress.com/">Source</a> -- Happy Seamstress<br /><a href="http://www.happyseamstress.com/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=1">Source</a> -- Baby Link pattern [Warning: PDF link]<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://stores.thevillagesheep.com/StoreFront.bok">Maggie</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/16/link-costume-pattern-acquired-baby-in-production/">Link costume pattern acquired, baby in production</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Aug 2009 11:30:00 EST. You want to watch the paternal instincts of a bunch of guys instantly kick in like their desire for s'mores over an open fire? Then show them this adorable knit <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=315663.0">baby-sized Link costume</a>. Oh my gawd, who doesn't want a little baby now?! Not only that, but the quiver holds the baby bottle. It's all <em>toooooo</em> cute. We want an office baby now. <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=315663.0">Craftster.org</a> user UpKnitCreek created this as a baby shower gift ... and we're totally jealous of the recipient.<br /> <br /> We're currently trying to get in contact with UpKnitCreek to see if we can get the pattern. Not that we'd know what to do with it, but we're sure somebody else does -- and then we want one! We haven't been this impressed with a knitting project since the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/21/how-to-make-the-guitar-hero-scarf/"><em>Guitar Hero</em> scarf</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/06/were-having-a-baby-so-we-can-make-this-link-costume/">We're having a baby to justify this Link costume</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Aug 2009 07:01:00 EST. If you've ever wondered what Link's life would be if he were real (and a pathetic middle-aged man), you may enjoy <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOPHyNYV0R8"><em>Link, the later years</em></a> (watch it after the break). If you're a fan of uproarious laughter and entertainment, you won't be a fan of <em>Link, the later years</em>. It has its moments, but Link's pathetic (and monotone) state drags on as a nearly six-and-a-half minute bummer. Seriously, we're so depressed about it we're going to go polish off a whole tub of Chunky Monkey.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=89916">GoNintendo</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/link-the-later-and-depressing-years/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Link, the later (and depressing) years</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/link-the-later-and-depressing-years/">Link, the later (and depressing) years</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. Well that was quick! just as soon as the Internet caught <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/triforce"><em>The Legend of Zeld</em>a's Triforce</a> in a handful of Google homepage logo designs, Google has altered said images, removing the easter egg. It appears as though the images were created for Google by artist <a href="http://www.susiesahim.com/">Susie Sahim</a> -- a woman whose personal blog contains a picture of her dressed up as <em>LoZ</em>'s Link, might we add ... which is awesome. <br /><br />We've contacted both Ms. Sahim and Google for comment, but, well, it's Sunday. Sunday <em>evening</em>. People gotta rest sometimes. With any luck, we'll have any update for you early this week. For now, peep all the original images over on <a href="http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2009-07-16-n41.html">Blogoscoped</a>.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Google got back to us about the existence, and subsequent disappearance, of the symbols, saying, "<span style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span style="color: rgb(2, 19, 36);">Our doodles aim to celebrate interesting events and anniversaries around the world that reflect Google's playful personality and love of innovation. </span><span style="color: rgb(2, 19, 36);">As for our Triforce Easter egg, we're glad people discovered it and enjoyed it before it vanished back into the Zeldasphere. We appreciate people around the world looking into our artwork so closely!</span></span>" Now, just to find that Zeldasphere ...<br /><br />[Thanks, Matt M.!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/19/google-artist-sneaks-triforce-into-logo-google-removes-it/">Google artist sneaks Triforce into logo, Google removes it [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 19 Jul 2009 20:30:00 EST. No, really. Nintendo of Korea has <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.kr/Wii/software/software_list.php">posted</a> a release date for <em>Twilight Princess:</em> August 27, 2009. Let us never, <em>ever</em> complain about a localization delay again. Unless, of course, you're reading this from South Korea, in which case, we <em>feel</em> for you. Actually, we can't. We have no idea what it feels like to wait for a <em>Zelda</em> game knowing <em>everyone</em> else can and did scoop up the game and already beat it, and probably lent it to friends to beat, and then traded it in ... only to buy it back ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-hack">to hack</a> their Wiis and maybe beat <em>again</em>, and then sold it off -- <em>for good</em> ... years ago. No, that level of agony -- <em>*shudder*</em> -- is unknown to our fragile beings.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=89266">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/twilight-princess-korean-localization-dated-for-release/">Twilight Princess Korean localization dated for release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 19:15:00 EST. If you subscribe to Nintendo Power, the latest issue should be arriving at your house very soon -- <a href="http://www.aeropause.com/2009/07/read-a-long-with-nintendo-power-244-august-2009/">Aeropause</a> has the scoop on some details on Nintendo's upcoming lineup from the issue. Most important to folks reading this text is likely what Miyamoto had to say regarding the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a> game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/miyamoto-zelda-wii-coming-in-2010-at-the-earliest/">announced</a> back at E3: "I don't think it's going to be that radically different." But, what about the theory of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/zelda-art-from-developer-roundtable-released/">the girl being the Master Sword</a>? Surely <em>that</em> is radically different!<br />
<br />
In typical Nintendo fashion, that's all Miyamoto had to say. He left us hanging to speculate, and we're sure most will be able to turn this appetizer of a quote into a five-course meal. <br />

Turkish website <a href="http://www.nintendocu.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&amp;id=1245886804&amp;archive=&amp;start_from=&amp;ucat=17&amp;">Nintendocu.com</a> has a gallery of fantastic <em>Legend of Zelda</em> cosplay compiled from various photography websites and gaming events. The primary character in action is Princess Zelda herself, with cameo appearances from Link. In one of the images (above) Zelda and Link can be seen locking lips, which we're pretty sure jumps the shark from "dress playing" lore to "blue" fan fiction. It's especially "blue" if you've got a thing for plastic ears.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GoNintendo/">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/those-ears-totally-look-fake-a-collection-of-zelda-cosplay/">Those ears look totally fake: a collection of Zelda cosplay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 18:15:00 EST. It <em>killed</em> us to be unable to share the image with you, because photography was prohibited. No exaggeration -- we <em>died</em>, and we've returned to the earth to (haunt people and) write about it.<br />
<br />
Now you can look at it <em>without</em> being locked in a room with Miyamoto. It looks <span style="font-style: italic;">Twilight Princess-</span>esque, but upon closer inspection, the character in front of the (surprisingly menacing-looking) Link looks less like a Zora than we originally thought. Inspect the full image after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/zelda-art-from-developer-roundtable-released/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zelda art from developer roundtable released</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/zelda-art-from-developer-roundtable-released/">Zelda art from developer roundtable released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Jun 2009 13:45:00 EST. Fresh off the announcement of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-train-your-eyes-on-the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a> </em>at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-09">GDC 2009</a>, Nintendo of America head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime had some interesting things to say about Nintendo's plans for this year's E3. "From Nintendo's perspective, we always go into E3 with a very high bar wanting to satisfy not only the core fans but also ourselves," he told <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php">GameTrailers TV</a>, teasing the reveal of a release date for the upcoming Zelda. "We haven't announced a launch date -- maybe we'll do that at E3."<br /><br />So, conclusive evidence of a brand new <em>Kid Icarus</em> game? Not quite. Though Keighley hammered "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/reggie-fils-aime">the Regginator</a>" for details on what exactly Nintendo would be bringing to the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/esa-exec-e3-2009-to-bring-back-glamour-and-sizzle/">glamour and sizzle</a>" fest of this year's E3, the exec kept mum, saying, "Everyone wants to know what we're going to announce at E3 and my answer is, come to E3 and you'll see." Guess we're waiting 'til <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/big-three-lock-down-e3-media-briefing-dates-and-times/">June 2</a> like everyone else.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://play.tm/news/24144/fils-aime-promises-strong-e3-from-nintendo/">Play.tm</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/14/reggie-promises-a-better-e3-from-nintendo-this-year-again/">Reggie promises a better E3 from Nintendo this year ... again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 10:44:00 EST. <em>Zelda more like Celda</em> news now, with the return of Nintendo's favorite saucer-eyed adventurer in a new DS game. According to some very brief footage shown during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/joystiq-live-from-nintendos-gdc-2009-keynote/">Nintendo GDC 2009 keynote</a>, <em>The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</em> (tentative title) sees cel-shaded Link ditching boats and single-horsepower vehicles for a train. Considering said train is also equipped with a cannon, we think it's safe to call this the franchise's first on-rails shooter.<br /><br />It's due to be released later this year, if you can believe that.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287111"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287112"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery1-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287113"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452079"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-train-your-eyes-on-the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">GDC09: Train your eyes on 'The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 13:34:00 EST. MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/03/02/wii-software-stats-march-update/">recently posted a breakdown of the amount of playtime</a> users logged during the month of February for various Wii titles using statistics that are readily available on the Nintendo Channel. Most of the results are unsurprising -- the top three spots are currently occupied by <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em>, <em>Guitar Hero III</em> and <em>Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, respectively. Those three titles have remained in said spots since September of last year.<br /><br />However, a number of games saw massive usage boosts over the past month -- most notably, the average user's monthly playtime with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Animal%20Crossing%3A%20City%20Folk">Animal Crossing: City Folk</a> </em>increased nearly seven hours, bringing the game to a fifth-place finish for February. Similarly, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Call%20of%20Duty%3A%20World%20at%20War">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em>'s average playtime increased over five hours, bringing it up to 13th place. Sadly, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninjabread-man"><em>Ninjabread Man</em></a> didn't place at all -- but that won't stop us from holding out hope for a strong March showing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/02/februarys-wii-software-usage-smash-bros-still-on-top-animal/">February's Wii software usage: Smash Bros. still on top, Animal Crossing sees boost</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Mar 2009 16:00:00 EST. If you feel like a bit of <em>light reading</em>, you might want to turn your attention to <a href="http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;co1=AND&amp;d=PG01&amp;s1=Nintendo.AS.&amp;OS=AN/Nintendo&amp;RS=AN/Nintendo">a patent recently filed by one Shigeru Miyamoto</a> for a "computer-readable storage medium." Sounds <em>thrilling</em>, right? However, the "medium" in question isn't what has had speculators buzzing for the past 24 hours -- the game which is referenced in the patent as an example for how the medium will be implemented is mysteriously titled <em>Legend of OO</em>. We wouldn't blame you for jumping to pointy-eared, Hylian conclusions.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348177">NeoGAF's</a> and <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=205631">CVG's analysis</a> of the uber-verbose patent ultimately points to a handful of gameplay features that would make the next <em>Zelda </em>title more casual audience-friendly. These include hint videos which would be embedded into the game, which would unlock when the player gets stuck on a particular puzzle for a set amount of time; a "digest" mode which would show the game's important cinematics and gameplay sequences, giving the player the opportunity to take control of the game at any point; and a "scene menu" which would let the player choose exactly where to jump into the story.<br /><br />This speculation is supported by Miyamoto's <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163455">expressed wishes to make future Wii <em>Zelda</em> titles more accessible</a> to a broader audience (this sentiment seems echoed in the patent itself) -- but keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't always cash in on every patent it owns. Also, the <em>Legend of OO</em> title described in the patent could just have been an example, not an actual game in development. Even if it is, we can't be certain that <em>OO</em> doesn't stand for, like, <em>Nintendogs</em> or something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/10/rumor-patent-hints-at-casual-zelda-title/">Rumor: Patent hints at casual Zelda title</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 17:30:00 EST. We knew something was missing this year. Turns out <a href="http://wii.thegamereviews.com/story-2633-No-Zelda-This-Year-for-First-Time-This-Decade.html">TGR</a> triggered what we were longing for when it noted the absence of <span style="font-style: italic;">Legend of Zelda</span> in 2008. In fact, it was the first year since 1999 that we didn't take up Link's sword. Check out a list of the past decade's releases after the break.<br /><br />Hopefully we'll get a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/24/analyst-predicts-new-zelda-game-in-2009/">new Zelda next year</a>, but for those who need to talk about the emptiness they feel, please be sure to leave a comment. This is a place of love and support. A place of safety. In the list of 22 titles, Colin includes a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=legend+of+zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a>, as well as a new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=princess+peach">Princess Peach</a> </em>game for the DS.<br /><br />This is just speculation on his part, but considering what Nintendo has said about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">the teams</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/miyamoto-wants-big-new-ideas-in-next-zelda/">their work</a> on a new <em>Zelda</em>, we wouldn't be surprised if we finally saw something on the game next year. Of course, you have to consider how long it took Nintendo to put out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess"><em>Twilight Princess</em></a>. We're just hoping it doesn't take that long for the next game.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/23/analyst-legend-of-zelda-returning-in-2009/">Analyst: Legend of Zelda returning in 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008 12:48:00 EST. We usually don't bring these kind of things to your attention because, uh, <em>it's IGN</em>, but they've published a pretty decent look back at Link and all of his past adventures. This look back chronicles all of the previous games in the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=legend+of+zelda">The Legend of Zelda</a> </em>series.<br /><br />If you're a big enough fan of Nintendo to be here, then you probably know the history of the green-clad hero pretty well. But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't <a href="http://retro.ign.com/articles/939/939361p1.html">read this</a> and think back on all of those great times you had in Hyrule. If anything, it should inspire you to play at least one of the previous games again. The opportunists at <em>ONM</em> couldn't resist mentioning the 'Z' word, but Miyamoto wasn't budging too much. "</span><span class="text_article_body">I'm really not sure when we'll be able to make a public announcement on that," he said, adding, "I can't even say if the next <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3">E3</a> will be the right opportunity to do so. But rest assured, our teams are working on new projects right now."</span><br /><br />So the next <em>Zelda</em> ... <em>might</em> not be at E3 next year! If that's the case, we could reasonably expect to see something at Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/highlights-from-nintendos-big-news-day/">fall conference(s)</a>. We'd at least like to have a <em>peek</em> next year -- having downloaded <em>Ocarina of Time</em> from the Virtual Console over the weekend (spoiler: it's still unfathomably brilliant), this blogger is aching for a new entry in the series.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/miyamoto-unsure-about-next-zelda-announcement/">Miyamoto unsure about next Zelda announcement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 16:20:00 EST.
