Some unsettling news now for fans of convenience: That Xbox Live Games on Demand title you just bought may not work with its retail counterpart. Specifically, <a href="http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/11/24/microsoft-selling-games-on-demand-with-compatibility-issues/">CrunchGear</a> reports that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/call-of-duty-3-rainbow-six-vegas-2-added-to-games-on-demand/">On Demand version of <em>Rainbow Six Vegas 2</em></a> is incompatible with the retail version. When attempting to play a cooperative session over Xbox Live, the game returned an error asking that players insert the <em>Rainbow Six Vegas 2</em> disc. This error occurred regardless of who hosted the match.<br />
<br />
A call made to customer support later revealed that this is apparently a problem with several older titles. Additionally, users on the <em>LEGO Rock Band</em> forum report that the On Demand version of the title <a href="http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?207259-LRB-on-Xbox-360-Games-on-Demand-marketplace-Export">doesn't allow songs to be exported</a> to other versions of <em>Rock Band</em>. This is understandable given that On Demand games have no manual (and thus no export code), though Harmonix notes it is "looking into" the issue.<br />
<br />
The moral of the story, as noted by <a href="http://www.co-optimus.com/article/5013/xbox-live-on-demand-games-demand-compatibility.html">Co-Optimus</a>: If you're planning to pick up an XBL On Demand title in order to play online with someone that has the retail version, do some research first.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/xbl-games-on-demand-may-be-incompatible-with-retail-versions/">XBL Games on Demand may be incompatible with retail versions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Nov 2010 14:30:00 EST. Time for another public service announcement from your civic-minded pals at Joystiq: If you were thinking about picking up <em>Lego Rock Band</em> on Xbox 360 hoping to suck its delicious track marrow from that disc-shaped skeleton, you're going to want to hold off until further notice from Harmonix. Also, you're going to want to work on that metaphor.<br />
<br />
Following a lengthy <a href="http://bit.ly/9OONWb">20-page thread</a> on the issue, Harmonix took to the Rock Band Forums to assure fans - and would-be track-suckers - that the feature would be back up and running soon. You see, the process for exporting tracks from <em>Lego Rock Band</em> is a little cumbersome: You enter the code included in the game onto RockBand.com which, in turn, provides you with a code to "purchase" the license from the Xbox Live Marketplace. At this point, you're able to actually download (it's not really an "export" at all) the tracks for the cool asking price of $10. The snag: Harmonix has "temporarily run out of <em>Lego: Rock Band</em> redemption tokens" but expects to remedy the situation "soon."<br />
<br />
If you've already been afflicted by this issue, Harmonix has some advice for you in its statement. Everyone else, sit tight until whatever licensing nightmare that's responsible for this goes away. The statement: <br />
<blockquote class="bq-standard"> Due to overwhelming demand, we've temporarily run out of Lego: Rock Band redemption tokens for Xbox 360. We're really happy so many of you were excited to bring songs from LRB over into Rock Band 3 and we're doing our best to get new tokens set up for redemption as quickly as possible. Stay tuned to this thread and watch @RockBand on twitter for updates. We'll be responding to everyone via Redemption@RockBand.com shortly, but HMXcj and I will be updating this thread to reach as many people as possible. Sorry again for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience!</blockquote> [Thanks, Peter]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/03/lego-rock-band-export-temporarily-not-working-will-be-soon/">PSA: Lego Rock Band export 'temporarily' not working, 'will be soon' says Harmonix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Nov 2010 14:40:00 EST. So, yeah, there are a lot of songs playable in Harmonix's various <em>Rock Band</em> games. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/rock-band-catalog-reaches-2-000-downloadable-and-on-disc-tracks/">More than 2,000</a> in fact, encompassing Rock Band Network, <em>LEGO Rock Band</em>, <em>Rock Band 1,</em><em> 2</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/13/rock-band-3-kicked-off-with-the-doors-dlc/">soon</a>, <em>Rock Band 3</em>. In an effort to help make finding out if the song you want is among those, the developer has created an embeddable web widget that lets you search by artist, song title, year and genre (then sort within those results).<br />
<br />
It's really pretty handy -- we've embedded it after the break, actually, so you can give it a try. If you'd like to stick it on your <em>websitethingy</em>, grab the widget <a href="http://www.rockband.com/musicfinder/widget.php">here</a>. Those familiar with iframes and other such web two-point-oh terms will know what to do with it.<br type="_moz" /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/13/rock-band-dlc-web-widget-makes-sense-of-2000-song-setlist/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band DLC web widget makes sense of 2000 song setlist</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/13/rock-band-dlc-web-widget-makes-sense-of-2000-song-setlist/">Rock Band DLC web widget makes sense of 2000 song setlist</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 16:00:00 EST. This week marks the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> debut of UK group Sweet Billy Pilgrim. The group will have one track, "Future Perfect Tense," hitting the <em>Rock Band </em>Store next week. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/08/rock-band-weekly-prologue-the-vines/">forecast</a>, The Vines also make their debut next week, with five tracks from the group's <em>Winning Days</em>, <em>Highly Evolved</em> and <em>Melodia</em> albums.<br />

Last week, the Rock Band Store got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/rock-band-weekly-otis-redding-brian-setzer-orchestra-the-chem/">a few healthy slices of Americana</a> with tracks from Otis Redding and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. This week's offerings are much more <em>foreign</em> -- there's a three-pack from Finnish rock band HIM, a song from Britain's One Night Only, a track from The Police, and a song from Marilyn Manson, whom we all know actually descends from an extinct alien race whose name our human tongues could never hope to pronounce.<br />

Harmonix and MTV Games are dropping a couple of classic Simon &amp; Garfunkel tracks alongside the first Slipknot track pack this coming week as DLC, appealing to that very specific crossover niche of people who like 30-year-old folk music yet like to go <em>blackout partying</em> on the weekends. Take out your terrifying masks and acoustic guitars, folks. It's going to be a <em>weird</em> one. Check out all the tracks for the upcoming week after the break.<br />

<a href="http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3283049">A recent press release</a> has informed us that with the release of today's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2">Rock Band 2</a> </em>DLC pack, Harmonix has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/rock-band-dlc-to-hit-1000-tracks-by-holiday-with-help-of-queen/">met its goal of having over 1,000 songs</a> on the platform before the holidays. According to the presser, these tracks represent the work of 390 musical artists. The rhythm gaming community has downloaded over 60 million songs from the <em>Rock Band</em> Music Store, which Harmonix has kept alive and kicking with new musical additions for 105 consecutive weeks.<br /> <br /> To put this achievement in chronological terms, we'd estimate that the average length of these songs is, oh, about four minutes. By our calculations, a full playthrough of the <em>Rock Band</em> catalog would take you two days, 18 hours and 40 minutes. Not accounting for the number of times you'll inevitably fail out on "Painkiller," of course. <br /> <br /> Congratulations, Harmonix, on this <em>rocking</em> accomplishment! Now, get back to work. That Paul Simon track pack isn't going to program itself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/rock-band-platform-now-has-over-1-000-songs/">Rock Band platform now has over 1,000 songs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 14:00:00 EST. We hope you've been putting off purchasing that that new fleece jacket you've had your eye on, because Old Navy will be running one hell of a video game deal this coming Black Friday. As suggested by a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/possible-free-lego-rock-band-with-20-old-navy-purchase-on-black/">supposedly leaked circular earlier this month</a>, anyone who spends $20 on the store's merchandise will receive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a> for free on the platform of their choice. <br />
<br />
The rumored deal was recently confirmed by a television spot (which unfortunately has yet to find its way online). We contacted a handful of locations in Texas, Ohio and Illinois, all of which said the offer would be valid at their stores. However, both the advertisement and the store representatives we spoke to mentioned that copies of the game will be "extremely limited," so we suggest getting to your nearest store as close to its 3 a.m. opening time as your tryptophan-infused body will permit.<br />

"omg they're selling out. they are humpin' the cash cow like activision has been till shes dried up . they're gonna beat the rock band name to a pulp until we are absolutely sick and tired of instrument rhythm games." -<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/21/lego-rock-band-real-coming-holiday-2009/comments/18424710/">fffunfarm06</a><br /><br />"I'm so sick of these corny games. All of you people should just learn to play with REAL Legos." -<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/21/lego-rock-band-real-coming-holiday-2009/comments/18427017/">Troy Powers</a><br /><br /><em>LEGO Rock Band's</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band">very existence</a> is something that both the Joystiq staff and community couldn't help but question. However, animator Matt Palmer revealed that developer TT Fusion also had doubts about the bizarre collaboration. "I know people were saying, 'Oh, they're flogging a Lego license again,'" he recalled during a <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/33199/Around-50-of-TT-Fusion-were-against-LEGO-Rock-Band">Develop</a> panel. "I'd say about 50 percent of our studio were for the idea, and about 50 percent were against it."<br /><br />Considering the game <em>actually came out</em> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/now-playing-november-2-8-2009/#top">this week</a>!), it's apparent that the team eventually banded together to finish the project. Why the change of heart, though? "Many of us started realizing that we weren't just skinning one franchise on another," Palmer explained, noting the need to hand animate the blocky Lego <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/video-queen-is-the-champion-of-lego-rock-band/">celebrity</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/david-bowie-invites-us-all-to-dance-in-latest-lego-rock-band-tra/">characters</a> to capture their various "signature styles." That's ... <em>something</em>. Right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/about-50-of-lego-rock-band-team-was-against-the-game-concept/">'About 50%' of Lego Rock Band team was against the game concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 15:59:00 EST. <br />
According to the ad, the retailer will be offering free "<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a> video games" with purchases of $20 or greater on Friday, November 27. "Your preferred platform may not be available," the ad warns, presumably due to limited overall supply. We're wary that it could be a demo or something like that, but the fact that Old Navy will <em>also</em> be selling <em>Rock Band 2</em> bundles, and giving away guitar controllers with said bundles, makes this doorbuster deal seem more likely. But it's still <em>crazy</em> to hand out a $50 video game with $20 worth of clothes.<br />
<br />
If you want to check it out for yourself, Old Navy stores will be open at 3AM that day. Have fun!<br />

Warner Bros. just dished out a new trailer and screens showing Freddie and co. strutting their stuff on the blocky stage. Sadly, the game will only have two Queen tracks, but don't be such a grumpy Gus! Theoretically, you should be able to access those Queen songs you downloaded from the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly"><em>Rock Band</em> Music Store</a> in <em>Lego Rock Band</em> -- granted the songs have been rated as "suitable for all ages." <br /><br />Oh, and don't expect to rent <em>Lego Rock Band</em> and extract all of its juicy tunes to your regular old <em>Rock Band</em>. All the block-rockin' beats in <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band" style="font-style: italic;">Lego Rock Band</a> have been revealed, with Warner Bros. also confirming upcoming DLC and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/rock-band-disc-export-goes-live-costs-5-for-55-tracks/">song exporting feature</a>. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will have the option to download "all of the songs in the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly">Rock Band Music Store</a> that have been identified to be suitable for all ages." Only songs deemed appropriate will appear within the Lego Rock Band Store and the game should "highlight" any newly added "family-friendly" tracks.<br /><br />The <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego Rock Band</span> disc export will cost $9.99 (<span class="album_title">800<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /></span>) and transfer all tracks from the Lego disc for use on the regular <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band</span> platform. It appears to work in the same way as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/video-rock-band-export-feature-in-action/">conversion of the original <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band</span> disc</a>, except that owners will have to enter "a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website" to activate the option. Check out the full set list for the console and DS versions of <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego Rock Band</span> after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/lego-rock-band-tracks-revealed-transferable-to-rock-band/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lego Rock Band tracks revealed, transferable to Rock Band</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/lego-rock-band-tracks-revealed-transferable-to-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band tracks revealed, transferable to Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 10:04:00 EST. <br />
Warner Bros. today announced the inclusion of David Bowie as a second playable character in upcoming music/rhythm game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a>, and also handed over a mess of new media seen above and below. Coupled with last month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/iggy-pop-goes-shirtless-for-lego-rock-band/">Iggy Pop</a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/iggy-pop-goes-shirtless-for-lego-rock-band/"> announcement</a> , the game's playable-musician-who-probably-shouldn't-be-in-a kids-game quotient has officially been doubled. One major plus for Bowie: Lego character gender ambiguity is all the more fitting. Bravo, MTV Games! Now <em>that's</em> synergy.<br />

We can't even begin to thank Harmonix for giving us a shirtless version of Iggy Pop that we're not completely revolted by. The guy's really been put through his paces over the years, so it seems only deserving that he should be all gussied up by Lego for upcoming rhythm/music game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a>. <br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/iggy-pop-present-lego-rock-band-actu-299234.html">Jeux Video</a> discovered the images, as well as a bit of gameplay with the iconic Stooges frontman. Unfortunately, the one major problem with licensing your likeness to a Lego game persists: You just look like a generic Lego dude! Is that Iggy Pop above? Sure, why not! <div align="left">Wired's <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/08/rock-band-queen/">GameLife</a> cites a "highly-placed source close to Harmonix" as informing the site that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2">Rock Band 2</a> </em>owners will be able to rip tracks from the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band">LEGO Rock Band</a> </em>game disc, just as they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/rock-band-disc-content-can-be-ported-to-rb2-for-5/">were able to do</a> with songs from the original <em>Rock Band</em>. The source also notes that a "small fee" will probably be involved -- again, just as with <em>Rock Band </em>to <em>Rock Band 2 </em>song importing. ($5, in case you forgot.)</div>
</div>
<br />Along with this rumored feature, the site has posted a list of upcoming DLC, including 10 tracks from Queen and three from The Raconteurs due in October. Three songs from The White Stripes are listed for November release. Undisclosed material from Attack! Attack! and The Duke Spirit appears as undated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-network"><em>Rock Band </em>Network</a> content.<br /><br />When contacted for comment, Harmonix told Joystiq, "While we don't comment on rumors or speculation with regards to our upcoming downloadable content, we can promise that the <em>Rock Band</em> platform is poised to remain the unchallenged best value and source of music for rhythm games."<br /><br />This supposed "leak" is very conveniently timed, given that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5">Guitar Hero 5</a> </em>releases tomorrow. Unlike its DS <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> counterparts, <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego Rock Band</span> doesn't make use of any peripherals beyond the standard DS stylus.<span style="font-style: italic;"></span> Instead, it's an experience similar to <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-unplugged">Rock Band Unplugged</a> </span>on the PSP, also developed by Backbone -- in which players use the buttons to hit notes, switching between instrumental tracks throughout the song. This is wonderful news for those of us who loved <em>Frequency</em> and <em>Amplitude</em>.<br /><br />The major differences between <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego</span> and <em>Unplugged </em>include, of course, the Lego styling and character building options, as well as the ability to hit notes using either buttons or the stylus. <em>Lego Rock Band</em> includes multiplayer for up to four people, and will be out Holiday 2009 along with the other platform versions. Check after the break for the first known tracks!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/">Lego Rock Band (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/#2223240"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/legorbds04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/#2223239"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/legorbds03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/#2223238"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/legorbds06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/#2223237"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/legorbds05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band-ds/#2223236"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/legorbds02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/20/lego-rock-band-ds-is-peripheral-free/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lego Rock Band DS is peripheral-free</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/20/lego-rock-band-ds-is-peripheral-free/">Lego Rock Band DS is peripheral-free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Aug 2009 14:58:00 EST. You will be <em>totally</em> surprised by this, the very first gameplay trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>LEGO Rock Band</em></a>. <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/08/17/exclusive-video-lego-rock-band-gameplay-reveal/">MTV Multiplayer</a> has secured the exclusive unveiling of this -- the ultimate merging of <em>LEGO</em> and music gameplay. Finally! The construction toy/music game niche can finally stop sending their creepy fanfics to Harmonix as their prayers have finally been answered.<br /><br />Are you ready to brick your pants? It's a rarity, but we'll admit it when it occurs: We might have judged a game too quickly -- specifically, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a>. While we assumed it would just be a brickalyzed version of the game we all know, love and are the tiniest bit sick of, a recent interview has us questioning that. <br /><br />TT Games boss Jonathan Smith told <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/07/09/lego-rock-band-lets-you-battle-sea-monsters-with-power-of-rock/">VG247</a>, "The Lego character customizer means that pirates, knights and skeletons can be rock stars too, in amazing new locations. Battle sea-monsters, smash up an entire building, or take a trip into space, all with the power of rock!"<br /><br />Publishers, if you're curious about how to get our attention, skeleton rock stars destroying buildings with rock power before traveling into space is a <em>great</em> way to start.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/skeleton-rock-stars-destroy-buildings-with-rock-power-in-lego-ro/">Skeleton rock stars destroy buildings with rock power in Lego Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 14:10:00 EST. Even if you were <span style="font-style: italic;">trine</span> to keep up, it was a <span style="font-style: italic;">blur</span> -- staying <span style="font-style: italic;">a.wake</span> like that, you only pushed yourself to the <span style="font-style: italic;">brink</span> of your own <span style="font-style: italic;">dark void</span>. That's where Joystiq comes in; to <span style="font-style: italic;">crackdown</span> on the madness; to <span style="font-style: italic;">reach</span> out ... with <em>conviction</em> -- phew! <span style="font-style: italic;">Crysis</span> averted.<br />
<br />
We've scoured the <span style="font-style: italic;">dark corners</span> and survived the <span style="font-style: italic;">inferno</span> to piece together this roundup of all things Xbox at E3. Why? <span style="font-style: italic;">Just 'cause</span> we love you. So, draw <span style="font-style: italic;">nier</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">shift</span> your eyes past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/">E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 11:45:00 EST. It's tempting to just take a review of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a> and stick it under here and label it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a>, because that's pretty much <em>what it is</em>, albeit with a few family-friendly tweaks. They're mostly aesthetic, and Harmonix is working with Lego, who has approval over all of the songs in the game, to make sure it's an experience that little kids can enjoy with adults. It might be a bit jarring to see Suzie, age 6, gyrating along to "Sex Bomb," for instance.<br /><br />The biggest difference is that instead of just hitting notes, you're also collecting Lego studs each time you play correctly. Just like in all the other Lego games, the studs have a purpose, and in <em>Lego Rock Band</em> you can use them to upgrade your avatars by purchasing outfits and other accessories for them. They've even changed the in-game notes to look like the flat, round, single Lego studs. Besides that, the game is <em>Rock Band</em> as you've all come to know and love it. Mostly. What more could there be? Read on to find out.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen11_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen09_crop_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen05_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508104"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-logo-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1507884"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/hands-on-lego-rock-band/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Lego Rock Band</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/hands-on-lego-rock-band/">Hands-on: Lego Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 14:30:00 EST. We're not sure if we were <em>intended</em> to see the first trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>LEGO Rock Band</em></a> in French, but it certainly adds something to the surreality of the whole experience. Take a trip into the utterly bizarre <a href="http://www.jeuxvideo.com/videos_editeurs/0002/00022424/lego_rock_band_f1q1.htm#containerlienVoirDirectementlaVideo">right here</a>.<br /><br />Also, we know a lot of you rolled your eyes when you first heard about this game, and, who knows, maybe it still will be a total cash-in. But if your heart doesn't melt a bit when you see that stupid curve of a hand cranking up the volume knob, then you're made of stone. <em>Stone</em>.<br /><br /><font lang="en">[Thanks, <font lang="en">TeJay G!]</font></font><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/see-the-first-french-trailer-for-lego-rock-band/">See the first (French) trailer for Lego Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 14:00:00 EST. Though we've known about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band</a></em> -- more or less, that is -- since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/rumor-travellers-tales-working-on-lego-rock-band/">early this year</a>, an <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/l/legorockband/">Xbox.com listing</a> for the game has revealed a few more tidbits to satiate our non-stop hunger for more info on the title. For starters, the game's progression has been revealed as incorporating the Lego theme with collectible Lego pieces that will allow you to, "build cooler vehicles and move to new venues." Furthermore, an extra easy (<em>totally for babies</em>) difficult setting has been added to the game for the ... <em>ahem</em> ... less than face-meltingly-advanced <em>Rock Band-</em>ers in our lives.<br /><br />To add even more Lego flavor to the mix, the game will feature challenges that allow you to "destroy a giant robot, summon a storm, and demolish a skyscraper." One important bullet-point glaringly missing from all news on the game (and its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band/">Beatles-themed brethren</a>, for that matter) is the ability to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/harmonix-clarifies-rb1-compatibility-to-rock-band-2/">export the songs into <em>Rock Band 2</em></a>, a la <em>Rock Band 1</em>'s tracks. We've put in a note to publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mtv-games">MTV Games</a> for clarification on this and will keep you updated if and when we hear more info.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/destroy-giant-robots-in-lego-rock-band-wait-what--129579.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen11_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen09_crop_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen05_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508104"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-logo-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1507884"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/22/details-build-on-lego-rock-band-rock-challenges-not-for-squar/">Details build on Lego Rock Band, 'rock challenges' not for squares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Apr 2009 18:33:00 EST. <br />If you've worried about your youngsters being exposed to the evils of rock music, worry no longer: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band">LEGO Rock Band</a> </em>is coming this holiday season on PS3, 360, Wii and DS to deliver us all from said evil. The game, currently being developed by TT Games and Harmonix, will use all the existing <em>Rock Band</em> and <em>Guitar Hero </em>peripherals.<br /><br />The family-focused version of the game will allow you to customize your "minifigure avatars" along with your road crew and managers. The kid-friendly song list hasn't been fully disclosed, but we know it'll include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Blur: "Song 2"</li>
    <li>Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"</li>
    <li>Europe: "The Final Countdown"</li>
    <li>Good Charlotte: "Boys and Girls"</li>
    <li>Pink: "So What" </li>
</ul>
So, <em>LEGO</em>s or <em>Beatles</em>, who's getting your <em>Rock Band </em>dollar this year?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen11_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen09_crop_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lrb_screen05_wave3-1024a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1508104"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-logo-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-rock-band/#1507884"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/lego-rock-band-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/21/lego-rock-band-real-coming-holiday-2009/">Lego Rock Band real, coming Holiday 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Apr 2009 09:57:00 EST. After a few months, we had forgotten all about our daydreams of seeing tiny, macaroni-like minifig arms windmilling on jaggy guitars like rectangular yellow Pete Townshends. <br /><br />The game seems to have resurfaced, according to Kotaku, in an early version of a slide from Harmonix's Dan Teasdale's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/gdc09-rock-band-was-almost-metal-lords/">GDC <em>Rock Band </em>presentation</a>. "So, it looks like Think Services put up a version of my slides that was sent for speech approval rather than the version that I actually showed at GDC," Teasdale said on <a href="http://dantdesign.blogspot.com/2009/04/gdc-slides.html">his blog</a>. The "Lego" box, if it was really there in the first place, was gone by the time the slide appeared in the actual presentation. The slide now available on his website has also been amended.<br /><br />It could be a joke from the Kotaku fan who seemingly spotted the pre-corrected slide, or it could have been a joke from Teasdale. There remains, however, the possibility that <em>Lego Rock Band</em> really <em>will</em> arrive this year between <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/rock-band-unplugged-box-art-reveals-partial-track-list/">Rock Band Unplugged</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/the-beatles-rock-band-features-unreleased-material/">The Beatles: Rock Band</a>.</em> The slides also mention several <em>Guitar Hero </em>releases, including <em>Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero VH </em>(probably <em>Van Halen</em>) and <em>Guitar Hero BH.</em> The preponderance of unannounced <em>Guitar Heroes</em> makes us lean toward "joke." We contacted Teasdale to confirm this, and he referred us to MTV PR, with whom we've left an inquiry. We'll let you know if there's even a 1x2 brick of truth to this!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/07/rumor-lego-rock-band-shows-up-on-harmonix-gdc-slide/">Rumor: Lego Rock Band shows up on Harmonix GDC slide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 00:00:00 EST. We usually save our statements of incredulity for the end of our rumor posts, but we think this story warrants one up front -- we'd have an easier time believing that <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/01/lego-halo-in-the-works-at-bungie/"><em>Lego Halo</em></a> is in development, and we <em>know</em> that one's not true. <a href="http://www.videogaming247.com/2009/01/02/rumour-lego-rock-band-in-works-at-tt/">Videogaming247 reports that one of their sources</a> is "100 percent" certain that Traveller's Tales is working on a Lego-fied version of <em>Rock Band</em> for Electronic Arts.<br /><br />Now, we know that Traveller's Tales is currently working on further Lego titles, but when last we heard, these unannounced games are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/travellers-tales-assembling-more-warner-bros-lego-titles/">being based off of Warner Bros. IPs</a> -- it's a lot more likely that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/rumor-lego-harry-potter-in-the-works/">a Harry Potter game</a> or follow-up to <em>Lego Indiana Jones</em> is in the works. As it stands now, we're fairly certain that VG247's source is either extremely confused, or they're jumping the April Fools' gun by a few months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/rumor-travellers-tales-working-on-lego-rock-band/">Rumor: Traveller's Tales working on Lego Rock Band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Jan 2009 17:00:00 EST.
