Tales fans likely don't need extra incentive to secure a pre-order for Tales of Vesperia; the only question that remains is if they're happy with the regular version or want to pony up the extra gald for something shinier. Besides being wrapped in metal and artwork by series character designer Kosuke Fujishima, the $69.99 Tales of Vesperia special edition will also include a soundtrack CD celebrating a decade of console role-playing.

While specifics haven't been revealed, Namco Bandai notes that of the 25 songs included on the disc, a hefty 14 will be pulled from Vesperia, with the remainder coming from Tales of Symphonia (4), Tales of the Abyss (3), Tales of Phantasia (2) and Tales of Destiny (2). However, as much as we enjoy our ears, this limited offering is a step back from the Big Daddies and cat helmets we're used to, though we doubt that will stop fans from switching their pre-orders over in the run up to the game's August 26 release.

For pack rats who salivate for all things Carnby, Atari has released images to CVG of what collectors can expect to find inside the Alone in the Dark Limited Edition box. Currently only confirmed for release in Europe, the box will contain an Edward Carnby doll, official soundtrack CD, art book, making-of documentary and the game. There's currently no price attached and the limited edition is available only for Xbox 360, Wii and PC.

We'll take this as a sign that the oft-delayed game might actually (shockingly) release June 24. After all, how can there be a "making-of documentary" if the game isn't done, right? Whether the game actually sells as well as Infogrames is predicting ... we'll have to wait and see.

We'd heard about the Collector's Edition for Assassin's Creed, but now that we've laid eyes on that 12-inch figurine, our lust for it has reached fever pitch. Listen to that ... if you're quiet, you can almost hear significant others from all across the country wondering aloud "Where you're going to put that ugly thing" from more than a month in the future.

While the Altair figure does look incredible, we're having some Big Daddy flashbacks looking at his weapon. Anyone else think Ubisoft should go ahead and set up the "Broken Stiletto" figure replacement site now?

It may be worth opening up your limited edition Halo 3 case (with camera in hand) while in the store tonight and make sure the disc isn't scratched before walking out. Although it originally started as a NeoGaf post (pictured), GameDaily now reports that three of their own staff members also received scratched discs in the limited edition case. The issue apparently only pertains to the limited edition version of the game which retails for $70, allegedly the nub holding the discs in place isn't working properly and the discs are tossed around inside the case during transport.

The standard edition and the legendary edition (the Master Chief head one) don't appear to be affected by this issue. All this means is that for those of you who ordered the limited edition, just make sure to check your discs before you leave the store. Please make sure to take deep breaths if your game disc is scratched, you'll hopefully be able to hand the defective product back immediately for a full refund. Remember, the key is to play the game, not obsess over the box it comes in. Focus on the priority.

GamePro got one of the Brain Age 2 DS Lite bundles, and decided to kill us all with envy. We're writhing as we stare at the surprisingly sparkly crimson finish on the DS. We're struck by how much better it looks in these GamePro shots than in the official photos!

As it happens, the included case is also hot. It's red with a repeating dual-screen pattern (like the emblem on the Lite itself.) And, lest we forget, the package includes Brain Age 2, which itself is worth a little drool. We're considering buying one of these bundles just to be seen with it.

Oh, did we forget to mention that they're giving it away? Yeah, GamePro will be holding a contest in the near future to put that DS in some lucky fan's hands. ProTip: You probably want this.

This yellow silicone DS Lite cover beats the "real" Pikachu DS Lite in four ways that we can think of:
  1. It's totally got color art on it
  2. This actually prevents damage, encouraging us to play it more rather than hide it in a safe deposit box
  3. It creates that two-tone look that we apparently love, and
  4. You can get it in a reasonable manner, for $13.
The last one is the real big deal. There was basically no chance of us submitting an application to the Pokemon Center in Japan, getting extremely lucky, and then shelling out for the Lite. This way, we can cover our normal DS Lite in the equivalent of a Pikachu DS Lite Halloween costume. Play-Asia is shipping the Silicon Cover (Pokemon Yellow) for $12.90. Despite the name, we're pretty sure it's made of silicone.

UK gamer Drew Walters somehow managed to procure one of these special edition systems, the lucky git, and took several photos while he unboxed the yellow treasure. Considering that the handheld was only supposed to be available to a limited amount of people who submitted an application at Japan's Pokémon Centers, we expect that a great deal of shenanigans were involved, and not to mention crazy bucks.

We can all agree that the Pikachu DS Lite is quite yellow, but what sort of yellow is it? Drew broke it down on his blog: "It's the same yellow as Post-it notes, The Simpsons, Lego men, and my bedroom wall." See for yourself, past the post break!

Attempting to cope with the painful realization that we'll never receive one of these limited edition yellow DS Lites, we have adapted several "Your Mama" snaps to use as insults on the people who actually have them. Here is what we've come up with so far:
  • Your DS Lite is so yellow, traffic slows down when you take it out.
  • Your DS Lite is so yellow, we can't believe it's not butter.
  • Your DS Lite is so yellow, Crest Whitestrips told it to go to the damn dentist.
  • Your DS Lite is so yellow, you've mistaken it for corn on the cob at least twice.
These are really bad, we know. If you can come up with anything better, leave your suggestion in the comments! Past the post break, we've got a couple photos of the Pikachu-emblazoned handheld. Collectors had to submit an application at one of Japan's five Pokémon Center's last June just for a chance to buy the canary-colored system. If you were stuck in the US or anywhere else that wasn't the land of the rising sun, you were out of luck. How rude!

While nothing more has really been said since it was mentioned in his latest "HIDECHAN Radio!" show, two weeks ago, that doesn't stop us from pondering on what such a tin could contain. Game? Check. Soundtrack? Would be nice. Artbook? Always fun to have. Replica bandana and dogtags? Why not!

To celebrate the July 20th opening of its new Tokyo store, the Pokémon Center will be offering Pikachu-branded, yellow DS Lites to an unannounced number of gamers. Those who're looking for a chance to grab one of the special edition handhelds will be able to submit an "application" at any of the Pokémon Center's five locations in Japan. Submissions will be accepted up to July 1st, and those eligible to purchase the 16,800 yen DS Lite (approx. $138) will be notified by postcard later in the month. Even if you're not a Pikachu fan, you could always just acquire one anyway and tell everyone that the face on the lid is actually a rosy-cheeked rabite.

Despite a near-decade's worth of handheld variants featuring the mousy mascot, these Pokémon-designed consoles show no signs of slowing down. Take a stroll through memory lane and check out all the Pikachu portables we were able to round up after the post break.

Square Enix's Wonderful World edition DS Lite marks the first of what we're sure will be many Gloss Silver bundles to grace Japan, but will never -- absolutely never -- see an official release in the states. Set for release along with the game this June 27th, the limited edition handheld shows of the "It's a Wonderful World" logo and Tetsuya Nomura's skull badge design. Pricing for the set hasn't been announced yet, but expect to pay a king's ransom if you plan on importing.

As our significant others are so keen to remind us, we're easily swayed by advertising here at Joystiq. Take, for example, the announcement that Assassin's Creed will have a limited edition release on PS3 and Xbox 360. Normally we'd like to know a little more about a product before we agree to buy it, but after watching the trailer we posted yesterday, we were ready to mail our credit card to Ubisoft with a heart-shaped slip of paper with our signature on it.

For those who demand a little more info with their purchases, we humbly oblige. The $69.99 tin-encased game apparently really will be in limited quantities and will come with a figurine of titular assassin Altair, Penny Arcade comics and some short films, along with some other bonuses that we didn't have time to read before we totally went to the store to buy it. Not that it was on sale yet, but, like we said, we're really susceptible to advertising. Let's just hope there's no marketing for GTA IV or BioShock ... ah, crap, we'd better just start saving.

Assassin's Creed is getting the special treatment, and will have a Limited Edition packed with goodies to net an extra ten bucks out of you. Althought, it actually will be "Limited" in that the distribution will be less than that of the run-of-the-mill standard edition. Extras include the expected tin packaging, an Altair figurine, a mini strategy guide, AC comics by Penny Arcade, as well as behind the scenes footage with interviews and other unannounced content. As if packing 500 characters, 300 mobile suits, and over 120 stages from 15 different Gundam series wasn't fan service enough, Bandai Namco plans to release a special edition DS Lite bundle with SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive. The customized, crystal-white handheld will feature the same red branding seen on Amuro Ray's Rx-93 ν Gundam in the animated film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.

It's doubtful that the strategy-RPG game or the DS Lite will ever make it stateside, so interested parties will likely have to settle for importing when the title hits Japanese shelves this August 9th. The bundle's 21,840 yen price tag comes out to approximately $183, but expect to pay a premium if you're buying from an online shop. We hope you like yellow. In celebration of the upcoming Simpsons movie, Microsoft has created 100 limited edition Simpsons Xbox 360s. Yup, there are only 100 of these babies in the entire universe. How do you get your hands on one? Well, we don't really know. According to the press release, they will be given away "through a series of special events and promotions." May we make a suggestion? Donut eating contest for the win. The special editions should be given away prior to the movie this july, but right now that's all we know.

You wanted it, you asked for it, and even though they said you wouldn't get it, now you can: a BioShock Limited Edition for only ten bucks more than the regular version. What does that extra ten-spot score you? Well, we're glad you asked.

Inside your embossed BioShock game case, featuring artwork from their cover art contest, will be:
  • the requisite "making of" DVD
  • the soundtrack CD
  • a Big Daddy figurine
Not bad for ten bucks. Although does anyone actually watch those "making of" DVDs for games? It's hard to remember if we ever watched the Halo 2 videos in our collector's edition tin. Hmm. The BioShock LE will be available in August, unless it gets pushed again, and will sell for $69.99 only at Gamestop and EB Games locations.

While you might think that Americans and Canadians will be paying through the nose of the Legendary Edition of Halo 3, we got word of the Australian prices for the 3 SKUs. To get the cat-helmet, you'll need to drop AU$ 199.95, which is about $160 USD. The Limited Edition comes in at AU$ 119.95, or $96 USD. To just get the game, you'll be paying AU$ 99.95, which translates to $80 USD. While this doesn't make the North American pricing any better, it at least puts it in perspective for everyone. Are any of you Aussies willing to shell out 200 dollars of your currency for the Legendary Edition?

Depending on where you live (or whether or not you want to import), you have different choices when it comes to DS Lite color, and a wider selection of shades if you're still wielding the Phatty model. Looks like someone decided that they needed to move a few more DS Lites in Japan, since sales have been flagging. The poor handheld has really struggled to gain a foothold. Sigh. Maybe this spankin' new limited edition DS Lite will do the trick. We do hear that this Final Fantasy series is a little on the popular side.

Seriously, this new FFXII: Revenant Wings DS Lite (aka the Sky Pirates edition) is pretty slick, though a little understated, as you can see after the jump. Who wants to start betting on whether or not this will beat those crazy early sales for Final Fantasy III?

Maybe all this talk about a PSP redesign is from all these new colors of the PSP that are being revealed at once. You may remember Sony's insanely expensive Signature PSPs. Well, add another new "limited edition" color to the mix: pink. Or, should I say p!nk, because it's designed "in collaboration" with the somewhat popular pop star. It'll come in a Value Pack only and cost €229, or £169. And yes, like many cool things Sony-related, this is solely Europe-only. You'll also pick up some exclusive downloads from YourPSP.com when you purchase the pink system. From the press release: "PSP is not exclusively for men, there is a PSP for everyone, and whoever you are, PSP can fit into your life."

I'm somehow doubting the limited edition nature of this package. You may remember that all hell broke loose once the pink DS Lite came out. Who wouldn't want to capitalize on the rabid girl market? Of course, Sony's done stranger things before... like refuse to bring the white PSP to the US.

If Xbox 360s continue to collect dust in Japan, it won't be because of a lack of outreach to the country's soccer fans. Microsoft will offer 10,000  2006 FIFA World Cup limited edition Xbox 360 packages including  the struggling Japanese version of the console, a copy of  2006 FIFA World Cup by EA and an Adidas faceplate in the national squad's team colors. Play-Asia.com has it available April 27 for US $429.90. A nice score for disinterested Japanese gamers and those desperate to play NTSC/J games.

Now how about a limited edition for the markets that actually appreciate the 360?
