Fable series developer Lionhead Studios is currently <a href="http://lionhead.com/contract-opportunities/">seeking</a> a gameplay programmer and an automation engineer for an upcoming unannounced project, emphasizing that knowledge of Epic's Unreal Engine 3 or 4 is required for consideration.<br />
<br />
The company additionally seeks a <a href="http://www.microsoft-careers.com/job/Guildford-Experienced-Programmer-Core-Technology-Microsoft-Studios-Lionhead-Job/2468130/">core technology programmer</a> and an <a href="http://www.microsoft-careers.com/job/Guildford-Animation-Director-Microsoft-Studios-Lionhead-Job/2576618/">animation director</a>. Lionhead notes that the animation director position requires a "background working on new franchises or reimaginings of existing franchises."<br />
<br />
Previous Lionhead job listings sought <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/lionhead-seeks-multiplayer-level-designer-for-game-development/">online multiplayer level designers</a>, hinting that the developer was working on "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/lionhead-listing-for-mmo-like-title-for-next-generation-console/">an MMO-like title</a> for next generation consoles." Ex-Cryptic CEO John Needham was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/ex-cryptic-gazillion-ceo-john-needham-is-new-lionhead-boss/">recently named Lionhead's Studio Head</a> following the departure of co-founder Peter Molyneux.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/lionhead-job-openings-point-to-unreal-engine-4-powering-next-gam/">Lionhead job openings point to Unreal Engine 4 powering next game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 20:15:00 EST. Needham's previous posts include CEO of Cryptic Studios (<em>Star Trek Online</em>) for nearly three years and CEO at Gazillion Entertainment (<em>Marvel Universe Online</em>) for almost two years.<br />
<br />
"Our vision is focused on building innovative gaming services and triple-A experiences at Lionhead, and the rest of Microsoft Studios, which take advantage of Microsoft's incredible hardware and software platforms," Needham says in the <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/mcv-jobs-weekly-new-lionhead-boss/0115099">MCV report</a>. A glance at <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/john-needham/1/756/b38">Needham's LinkedIn profile</a> shows a legacy well-versed in MMOs, subscription-based services and free-to-play games.<br />
<br />
Lionhead was in the headlines last year when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/peter-molyneux-leaves-microsoft-off-on-new-independent-venture/">longtime boss Peter Molyneux left</a> to start <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/22-cans">22 Cans</a> and put out his first experiment, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/curiosity"><em>Curiosity</em></a>. Lionhead Studios was purchased by Microsoft in 2006. The studio's last game was the Kinect action-adventure game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-the-journey"><em>Fable: The Journey</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/ex-cryptic-gazillion-ceo-john-needham-is-new-lionhead-boss/">Ex-Cryptic, Gazillion CEO John Needham is new Lionhead boss</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 May 2013 19:30:00 EST. As announced previously, Lift London will primarily focus on developing games for connected mobile Microsoft devices in European territories, with an emphasis on tablet gaming.<br /><br />Harrison also announced that Rare studio boss Scott Henson will begin calling various shots as Lionhead Studios' new head of operations, permanently replacing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/peter-molyneux-leaves-microsoft-off-on-new-independent-venture/">long gone</a> Peter Molyneux. Until now, Lionhead has been the purview of COO Mark Webley. Additionally, former EA Partners/Origin senior director of business development Roger Walkden has been appointed as Lionhead's head of staff, presumably after several hundred puns were made out of his last name.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/microsoft-uk-names-new-studio-lift-london-shuffles-executives/">Microsoft UK names new studio 'Lift London,' shuffles executives</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jan 2013 20:00:00 EST. Microsoft tells <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/42264/Layoffs-strike-Fable-developer-Lionhead">Develop</a> that the downsizing represents less than 10 percent of Lionhead's head count and the publisher still intends to hire 100 people over the next year across its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/microsoft-opening-new-london-xbox-studio/">UK studios</a>.<br /><br />"Following the completion of <em>Fable: The Journey</em>, Lionhead Studios has begun work on its next projects," the statement to Develop notes. "As is common in the games industry, a smaller headcount is needed as projects kick-off and ramp up as full-production gets underway. At this time a small number of positions have been identified as at risk of redundancy and the affected employees were notified today."<br /><br /><em>Fable: The Journey</em> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fable-heroes">Fable: Heroes</a></em> have been the latest from the studio <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/peter-molyneux/">Peter Molyneux</a> founded, who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/peter-molyneux-leaves-microsoft-off-on-new-independent-venture/">left in March</a> to create new studio <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/22-cans">22 Cans</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/16/lionhead-layoffs-part-of-natural-cycle-says-microsoft/">Lionhead layoffs part of natural cycle, says Microsoft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Oct 2012 12:30:00 EST. It "will be an RPG-based game with a radical new take on how co-operative and multiplayer gameplay feeds into the experience, while blending online and single-player into one complete experience," the listing read, as reported by MCV.<br /><br />The title "will have a complex progression system, multiple routes through the campaign and an MMO-like multiplayer experience that will affect the outcome of the player experience, and many other attributes surrounding their profile (such as the environment and the outcome of certain actions)." Superannuation notes that it was labeled as a multithreaded RPG with four-player co-op.<br /><br />Lionhead's specific use of "MMO-like" and the description's emphasis on a "radical new" genre leaves the game's direction open to interpretation, while nodding at the style of former creative lead <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Peter-Molyneux/">Peter Molyneux</a>.<br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/rhode-island-owns-38-studios-intellectual-property/"><br />MMOs can be a big gamble</a>, even for an established studio, and especially if its audience is tethered to a single console unfamiliar with the genre as a whole. Good luck, Lionhead. You may need it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/lionhead-listing-for-mmo-like-title-for-next-generation-console/">Lionhead listing for 'MMO-like title for next generation consoles'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 23:00:00 EST. Put frankly, the game is a shameless abuse of the Fable property. The idea of a cartoonish hack-and-slash isn't necessarily a bad idea, if executed properly. Unfortunately, <em>Fable Heroes</em> struggles at its core concept.<br /><br />Like most hack-and-slash games, the button scheme is fairly simple, featuring a light and heavy attack, along with a roll maneuver. You can open chests for various power-ups (some of dubious helpfulness) and there is a special move that none of my multiplayer party fully grasped. I knew how to do it, but for the life of me couldn't figure out when it was available. This led to rampant guesswork with limited success. The help section of the game didn't offer much assistance either. (Though it does include a 17-page description of all the power-up chests.)<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/">Fable Heroes (Marketplace, 3/4/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/#4866449"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/screenlg8-1330912531_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/#4866450"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/screenlg7-1330912533_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/#4866448"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/screenlg9-1330912528_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/#4866451"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/screenlg6-1330912536_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-heroes-marketplace-3-4-12/#4866452"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/screenlg5-1330912540_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/fable-heroes-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable Heroes review: For every choice, no consequence</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/fable-heroes-review/">Fable Heroes review: For every choice, no consequence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2012 17:45:00 EST. I believe the greatest game I've ever made is still ahead of me."<br /><br />Molyneux is adamant that he is building something special with 22 Cans, in both the structure of the company and the games it will produce. So far he has co-founder and former Lionhead programmer <a href="http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/dimitri-mavrikakis/1a/9a6/370">Dimitri Mavrikakis</a>, data miner Paul Knight and IT director <a href="http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/tim-rance/0/67/b64">Tim Rance</a> on board, but Molyneux is looking to have 22 people total from various industries, including architects, veterans, fresh faces and people who know nothing about the video game world.<br /><br />These people will help Molyneux make his "best" game ever; a game he couldn't create while at Microsoft. "I was in a creative padded cell," Molyneux said. "Microsoft was so safe. Microsoft was so nice. You're so supported. Everything I did couldn't hurt me, both creatively and physically. The danger was long gone. I had this huge desire to make something truly special, and I felt like I was being suffocated creatively a little bit."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/molyneux-microsoft-was-a-creative-padded-cell-22-cans-will-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Molyneux: Microsoft was a 'creative padded cell;' 22 Cans will see his 'best' game ever</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/molyneux-microsoft-was-a-creative-padded-cell-22-cans-will-s/">Molyneux: Microsoft was a 'creative padded cell;' 22 Cans will see his 'best' game ever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 18:30:00 EST. Harrison is charged with "overseeing UK-based developers Lionhead Studios, Soho Productions and Rare Ltd.," a role he'll likely warm to quickly given past work as head of worldwide studios for Sony Computer Entertainment.<br /><br />Harrison's most recent employer is game industry venture capital firm London Venture Partners, where he served as general partner. He continues on as "special advisor." Harrison will not be replacing former Microsoft Studios Europe head Peter Molyneux (who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/peter-molyneux-leaves-microsoft-off-on-new-independent-venture/">recently left Microsoft</a>), though he will be overseeing Lionhead. Molyneux's role at Lionhead as studio manager is currently occupied by COO Mark Webley, according to Microsoft.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Microsoft <a href="http://majornelson.com/2012/03/13/former-sony-exec-phil-harrison-to-join-microsoft/">announced</a> Harrison's appointment this morning to corporate vice president of Microsoft's "Interactive Entertainment Business" arm, with a focus on European markets. The screenshots in the gallery below show the rather cartoony game's four-player multiplayer, which the title's blurb describes as simultaneously cooperative and competitive.<br /><br />Said screenshots also show a distinctly board-game-esque game board, which makes us think that <em>Fable Heroes</em> may be a <em>Mario Party</em>-ish <strike>friendship ruiner</strike> couch multiplayer game. Players will earn gold coins that can be spent on "upgrades, characters, and items in both this game and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-the-journey"><em>Fable: The Journey</em></a> for Kinect for Xbox 360." You <em>are</em> following <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/petermolydeux">@petermolydeux</a> on Twitter, right? The always pondering parody of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/joystiq-interview-peter-molyneux-on-fable-2-too-human-and-lio/">the eminent game developer</a> (that imagines things like a "racing game where you only have 2 speeds," or "a creature who can only eat bullets for survival") is one of our favorite characters on the service -- and it only allows 140, remember? <a href="http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/10/peter-molydeux-the-games-industrys-refreshing-breath-of-twitter-air/">Kotaku AU</a> has a lengthy interview with the anonymous Tweeter in question, and though we didn't get the question of who he actually is answered, we get a lot of other interesting information.<br />
<br />
Apparently, the person behind the account is a real game developer, doesn't always agree with Molydeux's snobby dislike of popular titles, and has recently moved out into pitching his crazy game ideas with full videos and documents rather than just his tweets. Interviewer Katie Williams' <a href="http://alivetinyworld.wordpress.com/2011/10/12/peter-molydeux-interview-part-deux/">website</a> has a few more tidbits from the interview, including the fact that Peter Molydeux once applied to Lionhead Studios. He didn't get the job.<br />
<br />
He also hints that there may be another parody character on the way: an indie game dev who's "just been fired from a big-name developer, and is declaring war on them by aiming to create the greatest indie game of all time, all within one year." Considering that one of Molydeux's kooky game ideas is being <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/580867">made into a real game</a>, we'd love to hear what that new guy has in store for us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/parody-tweeter-petermolydeux-once-applied-for-work-at-lionhead/">Parody tweeter 'PeterMolydeux' once applied for work at Lionhead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 20:45:00 EST. Simon Carter, co-founder of Lionhead satellite studio Big Blue Box and lead technical director on the <em>Fable</em> series, has left Lionhead to found a new team focusing on digitally distributed titles for consoles and PC. He will begin the new venture with his brother, Dene Carter, who is <a href="http://fluttermind-dene.blogspot.com/">also a developer</a>.<br />
<br />
Carter said the decision to leave Lionhead was a "very difficult one," but there are "lots of new opportunities to pursue." Carter worked in the long shadow of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/peter-molyneux">Peter Molyneux</a> for ten years, having also held roles as technical lead on <em>Dungeon Keeper</em> and part of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullfrog_Productions">Bullfrog Productions</a> team.<br />

"My name's Peter Molyneux and I made this horrendous mistake." With that emblematic phrase, Lionhead creative director Peter Molyneux kicks off a hilarious public service announcement he created with the help of <a href="http://www.oxm.co.uk/30071/news/molyneux-fable-kinect-demo-a-horrendous-mistake/">OXM UK</a>. According to him, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-the-journey"><em>Fable: The Journey</em></a> demo he showed off at E3 2011 gave the impression that the game is "on rails," an idea he's quick to dispel.<br />
<br />
Apparently, the team at Lionhead working on the Kinect-based <em>Fable</em> title decided to remove navigation controls from the press demo, the same snippet shown during Microsoft's presser, effectively putting the game on rails and giving everyone the wrong impression. "I will just say on record now that <em>Fable: The Journey</em> is definitely not on rails," he specifies, even going so far as to ask for journalists' signatures before they exit the demo room. If you look really hard, you can spot one of our own among them. It's like Where's Waldo with squiggly pen marks!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/molyneux-declares-fable-the-journey-definitely-not-on-rails/">Molyneux declares Fable: The Journey 'definitely not on rails'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Jun 2011 10:10:00 EST. Shortly after <em>Fable 3</em> was first announced, Peter Molyneux announced that it would include support for what was then called Project Natal. Of course, the final game abandoned that ambition with Molyneux explaining that in order to do right by both Kinect and Fable, his team at Lionhead simply needed more development time. So when Microsoft announced a Kinect-exclusive Fable game during yesterday's press conference - titled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-the-journey"><em>Fable: The Journey</em></a> - it might seem obvious that some of that jettisoned <em>Fable 3</em> content had been repackaged as a standalone Kinect title ... except it hasn't. "Whilst we thought about doing a gimmick or two for <em>Fable 3</em>, it was always in the back of my mind that it would be great to do a Fable for Kinect," Molyneux explained in his second demo ever for the new title.<br />
<br />
In fact, the team working on <em>The Journey</em> isn't even the same as the team that made <em>Fable 3</em>. When he explained that the <em>Journey</em> team had two years worth of experience developing for Kinect, we had to ask you know what. "A lot of the team were working on Milo," Peter admitted after getting a nod from the game's marketing manager in the back of the room. "A lot of the Milo tech we're not showing off. This is the first outing of this so we're keeping some of our big stuff safe behind. A lot of the stuff you can do in <em>Fable: The Journey</em> is some of the stuff that was originally found in Milo."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/">Fable: The Journey (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/#4197110"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bosshobbe01b-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/#4197111"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/flameimpactb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/#4197112"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/horserein02b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/#4197113"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/spearimpactb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-the-journey-e3-2011/#4197114"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/vista01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/fable-the-journey-preview-speak-and-spell/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable: The Journey preview: Speak and spell</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/fable-the-journey-preview-speak-and-spell/">Fable: The Journey preview: Speak and spell</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jun 2011 05:00:00 EST. The cheerful hobbe you see above has been rendered in Unreal Engine 3. Lionhead Studios is using Epic's technology to power <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable-the-journey"><em>Fable: The Journey</em></a>, a first-person Kinect game set in the land of Albion.<br />
<br />
We'll ask Lionhead what user-side benefits the technology offers for this game in particular (which is a major departure from the franchise), but you'll be pleased to know that Peter Molyneux's already giving it the hyperbolic treatment in the press release. "Already we are seeing a more beautiful, vivid and unique world full of dramatic moments and have crafted new, never seen before gameplay experiences."<br />
<br />
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<em>Fable 3</em> was built on Lionhead's own technology, which could be fairly described as "rickety."<br />

Despite what you learn in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-3/">Fable 3</a></em>, not everyone gets to be king. When it comes to PC gaming digital distribution platforms, there's only one king and its name is Steam ("Your Highness" will suffice). Microsoft, also known as the lowly Duke of Games for Windows, has finally seen fit to recognize Steam's monarchy and, as a form of tribute, will be offering its own <em>Fable 3</em> on the reigning platform as well as its own.<br />
<br />
But nothing is ever that simple in court politics! While both digital releases, as well as the retail version, will be simultaneous, only Games for Windows Marketplace shoppers will be treated to a free copy of <em>Fable: Lost Chapters</em>, the expanded update of the original <em>Fable</em>. Steam shoppers will get the far less desirable Rebel's Weapon &amp; Tattoo Pack, featuring some, uh ... weapons and tattoos for your hero. Retail shoppers get the security of a box and a disc, so that's something.<br />
<br />
Fable 3 is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/fable-3-pc-release-date/">due on PCs on May 17</a> in North America and shortly thereafter <em>elsewhere</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/fable-3-steam/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable 3 will be crowned on Steam as well as Games for Windows</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/fable-3-steam/">Fable 3 will be crowned on Steam as well as Games for Windows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Apr 2011 11:32:00 EST. Before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/milo-and-kate">Milo</a> captured the hearts and minds of a people (and was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/24/fable-franchise-expected-to-incorporate-milo-technology/">taken out back and shot</a> like he had <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bmkdaqrg-8">rabies</a>), lead programmer at Lionhead Studios, Ben Sugden, worked on a world in which the boy could live. During his GDC panel, Sugden took attendees on a tour of Milo's world -- the video past the break shows that Milo's digs were quite pleasing to the eye, if a little unkempt.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/22/milo-and-kate-engine-footage-shows-off-mega-meshes-derelict-backy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Milo &amp; Kate engine footage shows off mega meshes, derelict backyards</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/22/milo-and-kate-engine-footage-shows-off-mega-meshes-derelict-backy/">Milo &amp; Kate engine footage shows off mega meshes, derelict backyards</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 21:00:00 EST. Poor Peter Molyneux was down in the dumps. Following the "justifiably" mixed reception of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a>, Molyneux was wondering if his career had already peaked. "We just weren't good enough with the craft of what we did. That always makes you reflect," he recently told <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/mar/18/peter-molyneux-bafta-game-awards">The Guardian</a>. Apparently, Molyneux was even doubting his future in game development.<br />

"'Have I already created the greatest game I'm ever going to create? Is the rest just a downhill struggle?'" he asked himself "late one night" a few months back. But then, the very next day he received a letter informing him of a BAFTA Fellowship nomination -- an honor <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/bafta-names-mass-effect-2-as-game-of-the-year-reveals-all-2011/">he received in-person</a> this past weekend. "As I walked up on stage I almost fainted. There was this sea of faces, and lots of people I've worked with before, and everyone stood. I was choking up," he admitted. "It was an incredible feeling, and I do immediately want to go home and start proving that I'm really, truly worthy of this."<br />
<br />
Molyneux noted during his acceptance speech that his cyclical over-promising isn't a PR tactic as much as it's him "over-believing" in his own products. "I always truly believe that this is going to be the greatest game of all time -- I wouldn't try to do it any other way," he said. And we wouldn't want you to, Molyneux.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/following-fable-3-disappointment-molyneux-bounces-back-with-baf/">Following Fable 3 disappointment, Molyneux bounces back with BAFTA award</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. PC gamers, it's time for you to renew your passport and update your vaccinations: You're going to be taking a trip to Albion in a few short months. <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2011/02/24/gears-of-war-3-beta-update-and-much-more-just-announced-long.aspx">Microsoft has announced</a> that the third installment in its morally dichotomous RPG series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a>, is due out on the PC in North America May 17, and in Europe, Australia and New Zealand May 19.<br />
<br />
The Windows version of the game will include full 3D support for folks using the appropriate NVIDIA cards, and will also add a "Hardcore" mode, giving the game an unprecedented level of difficulty. We wonder if that difficulty will be reflected in the game's major ethical decisions as well -- for instance: Do you want to sacrifice your children, your wife, or your dog ... <em>in the real world</em>? Mwahahaha!<br />

If you're still enjoying the Xbox version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/fable-3"><em>Fable 3</em></a>, there's some more DLC headed your way. The "Traitor's Keep" pack adds three new levels, all with fairly awesome names: Ravenscar Keep, Clockwork Island and the Godwin Estate.<br />
<br />
Apparently you'll run into a "mysterious prisoner" -- and you'll also run into 250 additional Gamerscore. The Traitor's Keep add-on is due March 1 on Xbox Live for $7 (560 points).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/">Fable 3 'Traitor's Keep' DLC</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/#3916505"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/tk01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/#3916511"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/tk02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/#3916514"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/tk03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/#3916516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/tk04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-traitors-keep-dlc/#3916517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/tk05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/fable-3-traitors-keep-arrives-on-xbox-march-1/">Fable 3 'Traitor's Keep' DLC arrives March 1 on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Feb 2011 15:35:00 EST. Another day, another Kinect hack from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/15/kinect-hacks-quick-time-gestures-with-indigo-prophecy/">Jack</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/kinect-hacks-dive-into-max-payne/">Schofield</a> -- however, this one might be his very best idea yet. He's found a way to tap into the Kinect's natural proclivity for hand navigation using a game which prides itself on <em>exclusively</em> using hand navigation: <em>Black and White</em>. We knew in August that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Fable-3/"><em>Fable 3</em></a> wouldn't hit Windows PCs <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/fable-3-for-windows-not-arriving-day-and-date-with-360-version/">day-and-date</a> with the Xbox version last October, but Microsoft told us to "expect news soon." Well, we suppose everyone has a different definition of "soon" since <em>Fable 3</em> on PC is here at CES with an expected release date of ... well, they're still not saying. But if you'd become convinced that the latest installment in Lionhead's <em>Fable</em> franchise would never make it off the Xbox 360, much like the excellent <em>Fable 2</em>, then we suppose you'll find the above photo comforting. In our short hands-on time with the title, we didn't spot any notable distinctions from the Xbox 360 version. In short, it's <em>Fable 3</em>, warts and all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/fable-3-pc-playable-at-microsofts-ces-booth-release-date-still/">Fable 3 PC playable at Microsoft's CES booth; release date still in darkness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 21:30:00 EST. To celebrate the holidays, we're having <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/12-days-of-joyswag-2010/">twelve straight days of giveaways</a> up through Christmas day. And while we say it's to celebrate, really ... we're simply getting rid of some of the larger packages around the ol' office. <br />
<br />
For day seven, we're giving away what can only be described as a rucksack full of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a> swag. You'll find the Limited Collector's Edition of the game, a novel titled <em>The Balverine Code</em>, and that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/fable-3-crowns-a-limited-edition-controller/">fancy Fable-edition wireless gamepad</a>. So, you're unhappy with the current breed of your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a> murderhound? That's totally understandable -- the three options currently made available to settlers of Albion are Border Collie, Boxer and Red Setter, none of which are considered the classic <em>warrior</em> breeds. Luckily, the "<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Fable-III-Dog-Breed-Set/d8ff4a39-304f-44a6-853b-9f3fc69b034c">Dog Breed Pack</a>" (out today for 240 Microsoft Points) makes three far more combat-ready types of pups available for adoption: German Shepherd, Doberman and Poodle. <br />
<br />
What? Have you ever seen a poodle when it's really, really angry? Those things are <em>vicious</em>, man.<br />
<br />
If you're content with your dog's current genetic makeup, perhaps you'll be interested in another piece of DLC released by Lionhead today: The "<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Fable-III-Free-Yule-Hat/e7651286-015c-46fd-9113-426c7fa7c98c">Free Yule Hat</a>," which, true to its name, is totally free. Seems like a nice way to add a little festivity to Albion's bleaker regions -- just make sure you take it off before you decide to conduct some horrible, unspeakable act. We'd hate for you to tarnish the image of Santa, you know.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/fable-3-dlc-starts-raining-hats-and-dogs/">Fable 3 DLC starts raining hats and dogs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:30:00 EST. With a 5MB title update released this morning on Xbox Live, Lionhead Studios has corrected some major <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii">Fable 3</a></em> issues. Primary among the fixes: quest progression issues (enemies not appearing, player getting physically stuck in certain parts of the world, etc.) and total game crashes. <br />
<br />
Additionally, various online multiplayer issues have been resolved, as has Jasper's curious case of sudden laryngitis. And hey, if you played in Japanese and <em>really</em> missed Reaver's voiceover in that one quest, you're all set now! The complete, embarrassing list of fixes can be found after the break.<br type="_moz" /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/fable-3-patch-prevents-crashes-cures-jaspers-laryngitis/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable 3 patch prevents crashes, cures Jasper's laryngitis</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/fable-3-patch-prevents-crashes-cures-jaspers-laryngitis/">Fable 3 patch prevents crashes, cures Jasper's laryngitis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST. Fledgling heroes in the treacherous world of Albion have enough to worry about without fretting over the ever-present possibility of encountering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-3"><em>Fable 3</em>'s</a> technical hiccups. Luckily, <a href="http://lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2010/11/23/understone-quest-pack.aspx">Lionhead has revealed</a> its plans to reduce the number of bugs -- as discovered and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/fable-3-fixes-incoming-lionhead-asking-for-bug-submissions/">reported by the game's fans</a> -- with an upcoming patch. This update will remedy issues such as corrupted save files, problems with the Sanctuary room, and some general performance issues like framerate drops and audio glitches.<br />
<br />
Lionhead also announced that it will release a "voice over pack" for certain unnamed regions -- but did not explain exactly what would be included in said pack. Our theory? All of the in-game characters' voices will be replaced by Stephen Fry's voice. "Even the ladies," you might ask? <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWNga1rzEdk"><em>Absolutely</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/another-fable-3-title-update-incoming-adding-more-funny-voices/">Another Fable 3 title update incoming, adding more funny voices</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Nov 2010 13:30:00 EST. If you've already managed to exhaust <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a><em>'s</em> on-disc offerings and are looking for some way to download more content for the RPG sequel, Microsoft Game Studios isn't about to let that impulse go unrewarded. About one month following the retail launch of <em>Fable 3</em> comes the "Understone Quest Pack," in which your hero "will discover a mysterious town built beneath the streets of Bowerstone, crafted by eccentric inventor Montague Hummes." This is an all-new town with places to shop (and purchase outright) and "novel creatures to battle." That's got a sort-of Fahrenheit 451 vibe to it, no? In its main quest, "The Voice," you'll explore Understone and "discover the origin of the voice that controls the people of Understone."<br />
<br />
Also included in the Understone Quest Pack is the "Shooting Range" - the Mercenary Camp is now a tourist attraction! - and the "Wheel of Misfortune," in which Reaver's arena has been recycled into a standalone feature. All that for 400 Microsoft Points ($5) seems like a pretty reasonable deal to us. Now the Exclusive Hair Pack - featuring corn rows, afro and asymmetrical bob styles for 160 Microsoft Points ($2), and the 5 Star Dog Potion for 80 Microsoft Points ($1), seem like notably lesser deals. <br />
<br />
All three downloads will be available on November 23, so mark your (now a collector's item) Milo 2010 calendar accordingly.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-understone-quest-screens/">Fable 3 Understone Quest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-understone-quest-screens/#3573217"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/fable3dlcdlc101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-understone-quest-screens/#3573218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/fable3dlcdlc102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-understone-quest-screens/#3573219"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/fable3dlcdlc103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fable-3-understone-quest-screens/#3573220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/fable3dlcdlc104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/fable-3-understone-quest-pack-and-exclusive-hair-pack-dlc-co/">Fable 3 'Understone Quest Pack' and 'Exclusive Hair Pack' DLC coming Nov. 23</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 11:04:00 EST. One expects to come up against all manner of opposition when attempting a violent overthrow of a monarchy, but game-crashing technical issues shouldn't be one of them. An update on <a href="http://lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2010/10/31/some-fable-updates.aspx">Lionhead's official blog</a> has revealed that the developer is currently working on a patch for a few known <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a> issues, and is also seeking bug submissions from the game's most attentive players. You might take umbrage over having to do QA for a game you spent 60 American dollars on, but, think of it this way: You can pretend like you just won Season 3 of <em>The Tester</em>.<br />
<br />
The blog post also contains a workaround for folks who are having trouble transferring their hard-earned gold over from the <em>Fable 3 Kingmaker</em> App over to the game itself. No, throwing your smartphone at your Xbox 360 as hard as you possibly can, hoping the gold will transfer over in the ensuing collision, is <em>not</em> the solution.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/fable-3-fixes-incoming-lionhead-asking-for-bug-submissions/">Fable 3 fixes incoming, Lionhead asking for bug submissions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 14:10:00 EST. Just two years after the triumphant return of the Fable franchise in <em>Fable 2</em>, Lionhead's exceptional realization of the original game's promise, comes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Fable-III/"><em>Fable 3</em></a>. For Peter Molyneux and team, much of their mandate was streamlining the experience so more players would experience more of what Albion had to offer. That means bringing the comedy to the surface instead of just beneath it, clearing up the menu system, fixing co-op play, and dozens of other targets. Think evolution and not, despite its narrative predisposition, <em>revolution</em>. Unfortunately, <em>Fable 2's</em> technical shortcomings weren't targeted and reappear - with a vengeance - in <em>Fable 3</em>, distracting from a mostly exceptional, albeit simplified, experience.<br />
<br />
The story itself has been streamlined. How many of you can remember what happened in <em>Fable 2</em>? Despite the dozens of hours I spent playing the game, I couldn't recall what the Tattered Spire was built for when I spotted it from the shores of <em>Fable 3's</em> Driftwood. In comparison, <em>Fable 3's</em> structure provides a basic narrative arc - you go from revolutionary to ruler. Simple.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/fable-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable 3 review: Join the evolution</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/fable-3-review/">Fable 3 review: Join the evolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 11:40:00 EST. A couple days back, folks who pre-ordered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-3"><em>Fable 3</em></a> may have received their redemption codes for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/make-your-own-fable-3-npc-pre-order-to-take-it-in-game-and-far/">Villager Maker</a>, only to discover it didn't work. Well, today the system appears to be working, with some significant hiccups. We were able to get through the process, but we won't be able to confirm if it worked until <em>Fable 3</em> launches next week on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/fable-3-launches-on-october-26/">October 26</a>.<br />
<br />
To design your villager, you'll have to log into Xbox.com and redeem the code (which expires Nov. 23) you received from a participating retailer. We had issues getting the system to work at all with Firefox, but it did respond to Safari -- what we're saying is, try a different browser if you're having problems. Also, we couldn't generate the face of any character who wasn't of the Caucasian persuasion, but their body did acknowledge other skin tones. Once again, we have no idea if the whole system actually works, but at least the website and redemption system is currently working.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/22/fable-3-villager-maker-kinda-working-now/">Fable 3 'Villager Maker' kinda working now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Oct 2010 02:00:00 EST. If you pick up a new copy of <em>Fable 3</em> next week, you'll find a free, one-time-use Xbox Live redemption code bundled inside. What does the code unlock, you ask? One flask of Raise Dead potion, another of Slow Time potion, the Scot Male/Female Hero Outfit, the Highlander Tattoo Set and the Red Setter skin for your virtual pooch.<br />
<br />
The items haven't been priced otherwise on Xbox Live Marketplace, but we have to imagine they'll be part of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/in-game-shop-will-bring-microtransactions-to-fable-3/"><em>Fable 3</em>'s in-game store</a>. If shopping isn't your thing, perhaps you'll be more interested in the new action-packed trailer we've included after the break. You don't even need a code to access it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/21/fable-3-new-copies-get-free-day-one-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable 3 offers free, day-one DLC with new copies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/21/fable-3-new-copies-get-free-day-one-dlc/">Fable 3 offers free, day-one DLC with new copies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Oct 2010 11:33:00 EST. Three: it's just a nice, round number. You have a beginning, middle and end. Good things are also said to come in threes, but according to Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a> doesn't necessarily close the book on Albion and the franchise. During an Inside Xbox segment at Eurogamer Expo (transcribed by <a href="http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/fable-not-limited-to-trilogy.html">GamerZines</a>), Molyneux said he hates "limiting" the studio to a trilogy. "Forget about the word 'trilogy.' I'm not going to tell you what happens at the end of <em>Fable 3</em> but I don't think you'll feel in any way that you've reached the end of a trilogy."<br />
<br />
It's by no means confirmation the series will extend past the third entry, sure, but if <em>Fable 2</em> is any indication, we'll likely feel the same way at the end of <em>Fable 3</em> as we did two years ago: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2008-fable-2/">wanting more regardless</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/molyneux-fable-series-not-limited-by-trilogy-formula/">Molyneux: Fable series not 'limited' by trilogy formula</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 20:00:00 EST. If you played <em>Fable 2</em> anything like the way I played <em>Fable 2</em>, you ended the game a very, very, <em>very</em> rich player. Why work a virtual job pouring cold beers when you could buy a piece of virtual property, turn off your Xbox, pour yourself an actual cold one (or 10), and when you come to in the morning, you're dehydrated and groggy -- oh, and you've been earning rent money in-game, too?<br />
<br />
That feature -- the ability to earn rental income while away from the game -- went a long way towards making <em>Fable 2's</em> Albion feel like a living world; one that went on regardless of whether or not your hero was there to see it. That feature won't be returning for <em>Fable 3</em>. "It was a <em>Fable 2</em> feature," Lionhead lead designer Josh Atkins tells Joystiq. "With every feature, we spend a lot of time reevaluating new things that make sense for the emotions we want to impact and get from players in <em>Fable 3</em>." <br />
