The Xbox 360 forecast is absolutely <em>droughtful</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/now-playing-july-26-august-1-2010/">this week at retail</a>, with the <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/clash-of-the-titans">Clash of the Titans</a></em> <strike>theater</strike> DVD release tie-in drying up store shelves. Thankfully, the Xbox Live Marketplace is <em>overflowing</em> with new content this week, including today's release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-11">the new <em>Madden</em></a> demo.<br />
<br />
Additionally, DLC for a pool of recent releases -- <em>Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2</em> and <em>Transformers,</em> to name a few -- flowed out today, and the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/summer-of-arcade-xbla-games-dated-and-priced/">Summer of Arcade</a>" shines on tomorrow with <em>Hydro Thunder</em> <em>Hurricane</em>. (Did you read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/review-hydro-thunder-hurricane/">our review</a> yet?) Finally, <em>Borderan</em><em>ds'</em> trio of add-ons is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/borderlands-dlc-discounted-for-xbox-live-deal-of-next-week/">on sale</a> through Sunday.<br />
<br />
Check out complete details of the week's XBLM content after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/madden-11-demo-leads-rush-of-xbox-marketplace-content/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Madden 11 demo leads rush of Xbox Marketplace content</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/madden-11-demo-leads-rush-of-xbox-marketplace-content/">Madden 11 demo leads rush of Xbox Marketplace content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. It seems as though every day there's more mainstream saturation for Nintendo products. Why just the other day, we spotted Drew Carey offering a decently tasty Nintendo DSi bundle during the "Showcase Showdown" portion of his (well, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_barker">not <em>really</em> his</a>) gameshow, The Price is Right -- should the contestants guess the right price, of course.<br />
<br />
Though titles like <em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em> and, unsurprisingly, <em>The Price is Right</em> game were among those offered, DS staples like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-super-mario-bros"><em>New Super Mario Bros.</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword"><em>Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword</em></a> also made their way into the fray. We know, we know, the question on all your minds is of course: Did the contestant win? You'll have to see yourself over at the <a href="http://www.cbs.com/daytime/the_price_is_right/video/video.php?cid=559221502&amp;pid=YQEmiQTI0IR8JQQ8Nnzj7VW_P42XDIEx&amp;category=recent&amp;play=true">CBS website</a>, folks!<br />

EA's perpetual joke -- <em>on you</em> -- comes to an ironic end on April Fools' Day with the release of de-authorization tools for each of its 19 PC games with SecuROM copy protection (full list and download links after the break). If you've been working on that class action lawsuit against EA for bundling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/securom/">SecuROM</a> with <em>The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff,</em> you can drop it now -- your flat-pack furniture can <em>finally</em> be moved to a new machine.<br />
<br />
In the spirit of generosity, EA's <a href="http://activate.ea.com/deauthorize/">giving</a> you <em>two</em> options for managing your authorizations:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Option 1: <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/ea-deauthorization-management-tool/pc/ea-de-authorization-management-tool/">Download</a> and install yet another "tool" in order to scan your computer for EA's SecuROM games and find out how many computer authorizations you have (or don't have) left for each title.</li>
    <li>Option 2: Cut to the chase and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/gitcha-securom-de-authorization-tools-gitem-ova-hur/#continued">download</a> the game-specific de-authorization tool you need.</li>

<div align="left">Pandemic Studios just informed us that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lotr-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings Conquest</em></a> demo that released to the Xbox Live Marketplace a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/02/xblm-offers-up-lotr-conquest-multiplayer-demo/">few weeks back</a> has been downloaded over <a href="http://www.pandemicstudios.com/community/viewtopic.php?id=21750">1 million</a> times. That means the demo download has bested <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> and its nine week run on top.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />Congrats to the crew over at Pandemic on their demo download success, but we have to ask; how well did those demo downloads translate into retail sales? One could argue that those sales figures are a tad bit more important.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/lotr-conquest-demo-conjures-1-million-downloads/">LOTR Conquest demo conjures 1 million downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left">EA got the folks who made the rather excellent <em>Star Wars: Battlefront II </em>to make <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings: <strike>Battlefront</strike> Conquest</em></a>, so it, too, must be rather excellent? Despite the source material, developer pedigree and the fact that you can <em>play as the bad guys</em>, the reviews -- which admonish its "ropey visuals" and "redundant gameplay" -- do not smile kindly on this latest video game jaunt through Tolkien's Middle Earth. Sauron's eye casts its gaze on the scores and summaries below.<br />

    <li><a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/944/944390p1.html">IGN</a> <strong>(70/100)</strong>: "Diehard fans of both online, class-based games and <em>The Lord of the Rings </em>might want to invest the sixty bucks, but if redundant and unimaginative gameplay are things you despise, you'll want to steer clear."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/lordoftheringspandemicprojectworkingtitle/review.html">GameSpot</a> <strong>(65/100)</strong>: "<em>The Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em> is an exciting and action-packed way to experience Middle-earth, provided that you have the patience and fortitude to shoulder a few frustrating burdens."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/lord-of-the-rings-conquest-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(50/100)</strong>: "While there is some enjoyment to be had here, it is hard-won and rarely fulfilling. The imprecision of the combat and its lightweight feel combined with the ropey visuals conspire to date the game considerably."</li>

Guess what, kids? There's actually a game releasing for the Xbox 360 this week. You'll notice that "game" is singular, as there is only one game out this week. It's appropriate enough though, as the game itself happens to be about the One Ring. Yes, this week marks the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a>. If you've played the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/02/xblm-offers-up-lotr-conquest-multiplayer-demo/">demo</a>, you've got a pretty good idea of what to expect. It's essentially <em>Star Wars: Battlefront</em> only with fewer Stormtroopers and a lot more hobbits. <em>Conquest </em>has something that <em>Battlefront</em> definitely doesn't though: You can be a Balrog. A <em>Balrog</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/new-games-this-week-lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/shipping-this-week-lord-of-the-battlefront-edition/">Shipping this week: Lord of the Battlefront edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 13:30:00 EST. Just as in the climax of <em>The Two Towers</em>, the evil forces of Saruman and the post-holiday game drought were about to overwhelm us, when <em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest </em>hopped astride Shadowfax Gandalf-style and rode down a hill to our rescue. Unlike in the film, we did not cry like the mothers of scarlet fever-infected children while we watched it.<br /><br />If you're a PC gamer in the mood for something a bit more action-oriented, you'll be happy to hear that <em>Mirror's Edge</em> has finally reached your platform of choice. If you're not a PC player, it looks like it's Middle Earth or nothing.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795182"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795183"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/new-games-this-week-lord-of-the-rings-conquest/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New games this week: Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/new-games-this-week-lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">New games this week: Lord of the Rings: Conquest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 09:45:00 EST. Word comes from Sauron's agent, the one they call <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/01/02/demo-lord-of-the-rings-conquest-multiplayer-demo.aspx">Major Nelson</a> of the Red Mound, that the multiplayer demo for <em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em> is available now on Xbox Live. The 1.25GB demo is available globally and allows you to play as either the armies of "good" or "evil" -- although, what side those terms represent is surely up for philosophical debate.<br /><br />Developer Pandemic has had no qualms in saying that <em>LotR: Conquest</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/pandemic-announces-lord-of-the-rings-conquest/"><em>Star Wars: Battlefront</em> with a Middle-Earth setting</a>. The game should arrive on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/lord-of-the-rings-conquest-coming-in-january/">January 13</a> for X360, PS3 and PC. Now, go kill some filthy Hobbitses!<em><br /><br /></em><strong>Update</strong>: Worth noting, the <em>LotR: Conquest</em> demo is also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/23/psn-tuesday-the-jeopardy-of-illuminating-a-supernova-metal-gea/">available on PSN</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795182"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795183"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/02/sauron-spies-with-his-little-eye-lotr-conquest-demo-on-live/">Sauron spies with his little eye: 'LotR: Conquest' demo on Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Jan 2009 10:29:00 EST. We'll be honest, just the prospect of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a> has us excited. Getting a chance to take part in a massive fantasy battle out of J.R.R. Tolkien's universe is a geeky dream come true. Helping to fuel our nerdy desires are the newly discovered <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=721">achievements for <em>Conquest</em></a> as provided by Xbox360Achievements.org. Most of the achievements center around completing single-player campaign levels or killing X number of enemies as class X. There are a few, however, that stand out. We're particularly fond of Flame of Anor, which is given to players for killing 100 enemies with a mage's firewall on a single life. It also might be hard to top You Shall Not Pass!, which is given for defeating the Balrog -- as Gandalf -- in the Mines of Moria. Nerdgasm complete.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/nerd-out-over-lotr-conquest-achievements/">Nerd out over LOTR Conquest achievements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Dec 2008 17:30:00 EST. We know what it's like to swing a sword as Aragorn. We've even laid waste to hordes of orcs with Gandalf's mighty magic. Now, thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a> from Pandemic (creators of <em>Star Wars: Battlefront</em>), we can finally give in to our more evil inclinations. The <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43399.html">latest trailer</a> for conquest shows off plenty of evil creatures doing what they do best. From Orcs to Balrogs to Fell Beasts to Lord Sauron himself, it's a veritable buffet of malificence. We particularly like the scene in which an orc takes down an Ent singlehandely. Check out the video above and dream of the day you can do it yourself (which, incidentally, will be in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/lotr-conquest-attacks-in-january/">January 2009</a>)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/video-lotr-conquest-shows-its-evil-side/">Video: LOTR Conquest shows its evil side</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Dec 2008 17:15:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55639">Shacknews</a> folks are reporting that Pandemic Studios' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lotr-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a> - a game dedicated to re-creating epic <em>LOTR </em>battles sans Elijah Wood - will be landing on retail shelves next January 13th. And from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/lotr-conquest-details-playable-creatures-heroes/">factual deets</a> we've already been given, <em>LOTR: Conquest</em> doesn't sound half bad ... possibly even good. If you're anything like us (and we assume you are, otherwise what are you doing here?) you sort of forgot <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/"><em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em></a> existed. And who could blame you? With all the Fables about DeadFalloutCry, who had time for a <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em>-esque take on a license that's sooo 2003? Well, hopefully <em>you</em> will on January 13, when the game arrives in North America on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.<br /><br />The release date notice emphasized how <em>Conquest</em> allows you to join either the forces of good or evil. As Pandemic boss Josh Resnick said, "What <em>The Lord of the Rings</em> fan hasn't fantasized about joining Sauron's army to slay Hobbits?" For the record, <em>we</em> haven't, you sicko.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/lord-of-the-rings-conquest-coming-in-january/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest coming in January</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 09:45:00 EST. There are few existing licenses that can pull large scale, arena-style, battles off and it looks like <em>Lord of the Rings</em> has just joined the ranks -- so far. In the teaser trailer for the upcoming title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Lord-of-the-Rings-Conquest/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest</a></em>, Pandemic showcases the epic battle of good versus evil from both perspectives. Pulling inspiration from <em>Battlefield</em> and its own <em>Star Wars: Battlefront </em>franchise, Lord of the Rings: Conquest has shown great potential. Working closely with Peter Jackson's Weta Digital to capture the look of the award-winning films, <em>LotR: Conquest</em> looks to impress gamers when it ships this fall.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/lord-of-the-rings-conquest-teases-epic/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest teases epic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 11:30:00 EST. Though <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_in_video_games">past titles have tried to capture</a> the grand scale of Middle Earth's climactic battles through various methods of interactivity, we've never really <em>felt</em> the exhilaration associated with cutting through swathes of Orcborn adversaries with our trusty <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/And%C3%BAril">And&uacute;ril</a>. In a recent <a href="http://www.crispygamer.com/_GeneratedPages/Interviews/Interview877.aspx">interview with Crispy Gamer</a>, Pandemic got the chance to shed some light on their recently announced <em>Battlefront</em>-meets-<em>Lord of the Rings</em> title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-conquest"><em>Lord of the Rings Conquest</em></a>. With the interview come a few details regarding the game and just what gamers can expect. Said details are as follows:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Three types of combat: Melee, Ranged, and Magic (expect warriors, archers, etc)</li>
    <li>The game will play from 3rd person perspective</li>
    <li>There will be several playable creatures and vehicles including ents, fell beasts, catapults, siege towers, trolls, battering rams and eagles</li>
    <li>Much like the <em>Battlefront</em> series, players will be rewarded with playable heroes for completing objectives</li>
    <li>Players will fight through the major battles of the film and a few that appear in the books. There are also battles included that were "hinted at" in the books.</li>
    <li>The Evil campaign plays out as though Frodo failed in his mission to destroy the One Ring</li>
    <li>No cross-platform play between PC and 360 (surprise, surprise)</li>
    <li><em>Conquest </em>features "a recognizable actor from the films" as the narrator (dare we hope for Hugo Weaving?)</li>
</ul>
The concept of mixing <em>Battlefront</em> with <em>Lord of the Rings</em> already had us intrigued, but this new info has us even more excited, particularly the news regarding the available creatures and vehicles. Pandemic Studios is spearheading a new Middle-earth based game entitled: <em>The Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em>. The team behind the <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> and <em>Battlefront II</em> titles is tasked to breathe life into the Tolkien fantasy world with this new action game. Can they do it? Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager of Pandemic Studios thinks so: "Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that <em>The Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em> will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow, and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want -- even if they choose to play from the evil side."<br /><br />Interesting PR-laced point there Mr. Resnick. We're sure intrigued about the "evil side" gameplay, though; the ability to play as an Oliphaunt, the Balrog, and Sauron do sound rather wicked (in a good way). Interested in more? Then check out the game's <a href="http://pandemicstudios.com/conquest/">official website</a>. The game is due for a global Fall 2008 release.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/pandemic-conquers-middle-earth-with-new-lotr-title/">Pandemic conquers Middle-earth with new LOTR title</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 May 2008 19:30:00 EST. <br />Just how many people are working at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pandemic/">Pandemic</a> anyway? Not only are they still finishing up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Mercenaries%202%3A%20World%20in%20Flames">Mercenaries 2: World in Flames</a></em> and (maybe) making the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/ign-says-pandemic-making-batman-for-sure-then-pulls-story/">next <em>Batman </em>game</a>, but news has come from IGN today that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/pandemic-studios-developing-new-lord-of-the-rings-game/">the <em>Lord of the Rings </em>game</a> the studio is currently crafting (called <em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em>) will arrive on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this fall. By the developer's own admission it's an unabashed mash-up of the fantasy property and its own <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> (read: huge fights in Middle Earth).<br /><br />The game will incorporate every battle from the movies, a few from the books and some from whole cloth. <em>Conquest'</em>s large-scale battles, which will sport up to 150 characters on screen at once, can be waged by eight players online [update: It's apparently 16] against one another or with four players teaming up on the main campaign online or via split screen. Frankly, we got a little burnt out on <em>Lord of the Rings </em>games when a glut of them arrived with Peter Jackson's films, but this sounds like the kind of meaty experience that justifies a return to Middle Earth.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">Lord of the Rings: Conquest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795182"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795183"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-the-rings-conquest/#795185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/lotr_conquest_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/pandemic-announces-lord-of-the-rings-conquest/">Pandemic announces Lord of the Rings: Conquest [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 May 2008 07:50:00 EST.
