Amid an awkward (and drunken) confession that his life is in shambles following the end of his marriage, developer Luc Bernard confirmed Mecho Wars will release on WiiWare and DSiWare. Described as "similar to Advance Wars but with RPG elements," Mecho Wars had already been revealed as a WiiWare release.

Mecho Wars will hit the iPhone app store and WiiWare first with a DSiWare release sometime after. No official release details for the dev's second title were mentioned in the YouTube confession. So far the game looks interesting and we extend well wishes to Bernard in the middle of his personal crisis. The first footage -- of the still-under-development title -- can be found after the break.

[Via GoNintendo]
Continue reading Luc Bernard confirms Mecho Wars hitting DSiWare, WiiWare

Luc Bernard confirms Mecho Wars hitting DSiWare, WiiWare originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 19 May 2009 20:30:00 EST. According to a post over at his blog, Luc has spilled the beans on two more projects planned for WiiWare.

These two projects will be part of a new company that Luc has found investors for that will specialize in iPhone and WiiWare development. Although the first game is without a title at the moment, we know it will be a strategy title and "similar to Advance Wars but with RPG elements" Sounds interesting.

The other game, called Rose Princess, is kind of on the backburner for now, but will be a "metroidvania style of game." Based on the concept art that Bernard has uploaded for the game, it looks like it will have some very unique and strange characters.

Luc Bernard hard at work on new WiiWare games originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 29 Dec 2008 16:47:00 EST. Hey, remember Eternity's Child? Not that we ever hear anything about WiiWare games prior to their release, but we haven't heard anything about the WiiWare release of Luc Bernard's multiplatform platformer (multiplatformer?) since before its PC release in August. According to Bernard, publisher Alten8 is working on getting the game out before the end of the year, with an added challenge mode featuring user-created levels.

Bernard has also announced that the planned GBA sequel will be brought out of limbo as another WiiWare release as Eternity's Child 2: Retro Child, for release in the middle of next year. Recent developments seem to have made the environment for retro-style sequels on WiiWare favorable. Bernard is working as a producer and doing concept art on this new game.

Eternity's Child still planned for WiiWare, as is ... its retro-style sequel? originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 17:23:00 EST. We know this for a fact. But we don't hate on games here just because they aren't exclusive; in fact, if we think something is truly great, we relish the opportunity to share it with our differently-consoled friends. There's also the fact that we get to hear about Steam players' impressions of the game.

We aren't sure which version of Eternity's Child this trailer depicts, but it promises to look beautiful on Wii for reasons unrelated to HD output anyway -- the lush colors and swirly clouds will come through just as well on Wii as they do on PC.

Eternity's Trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 14:50:00 EST. Why? Well, it's hard to explain, but Alten8's CEO Paul Andrews spoke to WiiWare World and droned on about Luc Bernard, concepts, formats and the like.

The moral of the story is -- it's coming to America. After ratings are complete it will "go out as closely as possible in Europe and NA regions." That's about as far as details go, because it's being ported right now from the original PC version.

Is Luc Bernard the man? An army of now-happy WiiWare gamers will be the judge of that when the game finally hits the downloadable intertrons.

Eternity's Child will spend an eternity in America originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 01 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST.
Well, this royally sucks: Eternity's Child creator Luc Bernard has admitted that there are no plans to bring quirky platform game Eternity's Child to North America's WiiWare service. Instead, only Europe will receive the title, with Bernard anticipating a release there "at the end of Q3."

Speaking to WiiWare World, Bernard said that he had no control over when or where the game comes out, and that UK publisher Alten8 was in charge of such matters. The only consolation for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the game is that a version will be available to PC owners via the Steam service at the end of this month. But, y'know, we deal with Wii here, so we're officially disappointed.

Also in his chat with WiiWare World, Bernard defended World of Goo's shift to retail in Europe, and complained that publishers had little time for innovative games, even on WiiWare. Quoth Bernard: "Maybe I should put in a space marine with a gun that is defending Earth from space Nazis for them to be interested!" Space Nazis? Eternity's Child creator Luc Bernard is all about the interaction. He's often commented on the reception of media from the game, and has spoken of possible changes based on audience reaction to early clips of the WiiWare game. Now, he's taking that interaction to the next level by offering someone a chance to appear as a character in the forthcoming title.

Through July 1, you can leave a comment at his blog, send him a photo of yourself via e-mail, or drop a YouTube link as an entry. What's the criteria? What sort of character? No one knows but Bernard himself, but it's an interesting little impromptu promotion nonetheless.

[Via WiiWare World]

Be a part of Eternity's Child originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 14:45:00 EST. According to Luc Bernard, creator of the upcoming WiiWare title Eternity's Child, we can expect some sort of level editor to be included in the game. While he doesn't get too specific on the details, Bernard does mention that players will be able to decide where enemies spawn, where the platforms go, and they can "even write curse words" with the tools given. Beyond that, Bernard plans to make a website where people can upload their levels and vote for their favorites.

We know that a lot of you enjoy building your own stages, and things like that do tend to add extra playing hours onto a game. Does this addition make you more interested in Eternity's Child, then?

Further footage of WiiWare title Eternity's Child has materialized, and ... well, we're not going to sugercoat this: we're just not that crazy about the above video. It is, as another member of the team put it, kinda janky.

However, there's an important distinction to make here, because we're convinced that the game itself still has potential -- its lush, inventive art style and sweeping orchestral soundtrack will ensure our heads remain turned, and we're still intrigued by the idea of controlling two characters at once. We're giving Luc Bernard's game the benefit of the doubt for now, but here's hoping that more promising coverage isn't too far away.

[Update: Sorry folks, but it appears as though the original trailer has been removed.]

[Via Go Nintendo]

Eternity's Child, and how not to show off your game originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 25 Mar 2008 14:15:00 EST. The game's world then becomes a fantasy land, imagined by the boy in order to "escape" the harshness of reality. The New York Times caused some alarm this morning, though, reporting that Nintendo wouldn't be releasing Luc Bernard's DS game to America.

The article, however, might have been jumping the gun. It's true that Nintendo of America has no plans to distribute this title, but Bernard hasn't even approached the company yet. A representative from Alten8, Imagination's potential publisher, also told Eurogamer that no one has blocked the game and that it's still in its early stages.

Does that mean the game is in the clear, though? Not necessarily.
Continue reading Will we ever see Imagination Is the Only Escape?

Will we ever see Imagination Is the Only Escape? originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. Luc Bernard, creator of Eternity's Child, recently revealed another character for his upcoming Wii Ware game. The character (pictured above on the right), who we know almost nothing about except for the fact that she's a girl, will help Angel (the protagonist) along his quest.

Bernard also explained how the controls will work. It seems that Angel is controlled by the Nunchuck's analog stick, while the red flying heart is controlled by the Wiimote. With the push of a button, you summon Angel's female friend, who will start throwing things (we're not sure what) where the heart shaped cursor is pointing.

It sounds simple enough, but also fun, especially considering that the game only costs $5. Still, above all. it's the art that has us enamored with this title, and we'll admit that we're looking forward to this game's release.

More pretty details about Eternity's Child originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 09:45:00 EST. At least, we've gathered that much after he made the statement, "Yes games can be art and talk about important subjects like films can, and not just space rats in bondage suits that come down to whip you and put gags on your children while drinking all the vodka in the world."

It can't be argued that he has an interesting mind, though, so our curiosity is piqued in regards to his DS game. Like Eternity's Child, it will deal with genocidal themes. If that alone wasn't enough to warn you that this game would be a heartbreaker, it's titled Imagination is the Only Escape. Yet, we won't find out more information about it until after GDC, according to Bernard.
Upcoming DS game described as 'Schindler's List meets Alice in Wonderland' originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST.
We at Nintendo Wii Fanboy can't help but find Luc Bernard, creator of Eternity's Child, incredibly compelling. Let's look at the facts. For one, he's bringing a game to Wii Ware that has a beautiful art style, which will be priced at only $5. Bernard is also fond of pugs, which scores him automatic points in our book. To top it off, he wants to bring even more games to Wii Ware, including one he's titled Manufactured Beauty (concept art pictured above). Then, there's also the fact that he's made the orchestral soundtrack of Eternity's Child available for fans to listen to online.

If the artwork alone (understandably) isn't enough to get you pumped about this addition to Wii Ware, rest assured that Eternity's Child has other merits. Not only does the story deal with modern-day environmental and ethical issues, but it also introduces a creative fantasy world. According to Bernard, this makes the game like an "interactive fairy tale." While parallels can easily be drawn between its story and real life, the surface presents us with an interesting plot filled with unique characters and surrealist scenarios.

As for the gameplay, we don't know much aside from the inclusion of a point-and-shoot mechanic involving the Wiimote. Bernard sheds more candid details about himself and Eternity's Child in this Destructoid interview, though, which features some Q&A with the game's soundtrack composer as well.

We can't wait until more details emerge on this title (which, according to Bernard, is almost finished). Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Cartoonist Luc Bernard tells WiiDS.co.uk that his platformer Eternity's Child is now a WiiWare title coming Q2 2008 for $5. The quirky (we mean that positively) title has an equally quirky history, starting out as an Xbox Live Arcade title before switching to the Wii because of the 150 MB size restriction. Curiously, an IGN podcast reportedly pinned a 40 MB size limit for the service, a figure which Nintendo has disputed

We can surmise that Eternity's Child's art assets will be significantly lower now that the Wii's output peaks at 480p resolution -- but would that account for a 73% or more decrease in file size if said limit does exist? Still, $5 is a great deal for what looks like a very stylish title. We'll keep you updated on The Mystery of the Missing Megabytes.
Eternity's Child, Luc Bernard's stylish platformer, began life as an XBLA title, moved to the Nintendo systems as of last September, and is now apparently going to be released for Wii Ware later this year. Normally, this would be cause for standing ovations and general joy, but in this particular case? We're scratching our heads a little. Initially, the title was apparently shifted away from the Xbox download service due to the restrictions on the size of downloads. Wii Ware, however, boasts an even lower cap for downloads, so we can't help but wonder what happened to the game. It still looks good -- as you can see from our gallery -- so did the finished game end up being much smaller? Is it simplified? We can't help our curiosity.

Right now, Eternity's Child is slated for Q2, at the unbeatable price of $5.

[Via GoNintendo]
Eternity's Child settles on Wii Ware originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 01 Feb 2008 15:00:00 EST.
