Nintendo has collaborated with iam8bit to produce a real-life replica of Luigi's supernatural sucker, the Poltergeist 5000 vacuum seen in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. The making-of video above shows the vacuum itself is functional, with a gutted vacuum motor housed within custom parts at its core.

iam8bit is a gaming art and exhibition company, with recent exhibitions highlighting the Street Fighter series and its American Icons series.

At Joystiq, we're firm believers in the idea that every human being has an instrument to which they are naturally attuned, for self expression and emotional release. In most cases, a person's instrument is a literal instrument; Steve Vai and Regina Carter come to mind as ready examples. Sometimes, however, a person's instrument can be a little more abstract.

Shuey187, for instance, is a Tetris virtuoso. As a follow-up to the 90 minute magnum opus in which he used Tetris to create a Mario sprite, Shuey187 has utilized his unique gift for geometrically aligning blocks in order to craft Mario's brother and confidant. It's a truly amazing thing to watch, especially when you consider the fact that he used nothing more than a sprite pattern and raw talent to get the job done. Seeing as the video has no soundtrack, we suggest opening a second window and listening to one of the other two phenomena we mentioned.

While the games showcased at the event were mostly comprised of Nintendo's fitness titles, there were a few hidden surprises, including the NES Super Mario Bros. 3 and WiiWare's World of Goo. With free games (and free AC!), the competition is certainly worth checking out, especially if it manages to make its way to your area.

It's our sincere hope that if the Super Mario Bros. ever actually did show up in our world, they wouldn't look anything like Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo -- instead, we'd really prefer they look something like what you see above: Two papercraft statues put together by DeviantArt-ist TouchFuzzyGetDizzy. Definitely click the Source link below to see these guys as big as possible. The actual statues are 40 and 50 centimeters tall, and with the detail on them, you're probably looking at quite a bit of paper.

If you want to try cutting, folding, and pasting them together yourself, you're welcome to -- the creator has uploaded patterns of each, though he warns that there are no instructions to go along with them yet. Elsewhere in his gallery, you can see more angles of Luigi, as well as models of Aryll and Salvatore from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Very cool. The best thing we ever made with paper? It's not clear whether the other Mr. Mario is playable from the get-go -- in the first Super Mario Galaxy, Luigi only became playable after collecting all 120 stars -- but he will clearly be a character that players can control. According to police reports, the cabbie stopped his car at a gas station when one of the four patrons attempted to steal money out of his pocket. He asked the men to pay their fare and get out, which resulted in the attack.

In the video found on the NY Daily News website, two men dressed as Mario and Luigi can be seen assaulting the cab driver while another person in their party stands about, presumably watching for interference. The men are still at large and police are asking those with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto NYPD Crime Stoppers, or text 274637 then enter "TIP577."

When Japan-based 4cr staffer and elementary school teacher Vinnk tried using the Mario universe to teach his young students the English words for family members, he can't have been expecting a lesson of his own on the Mario family tree from a classroom of six-year-olds.

That's exactly what he did get however, with his pupils patiently pointing out that Wario, Mario, Luigi, and Peach were all siblings, that Bowser is either their father or uncle, and that Luigi must be older than Mario because he's taller. We're still no clearer on what Yoshi's role is in this incestuous mess, and it's not something we wish to dwell on for longer than is necessary.

Serving the fans out there who're determined to watch every bit of Super Smash Bros. Brawl code executed before the game ever hits the US, Youtuber Zero9teen has posted a video collection of nearly every jeer from all the characters in the game. We say "nearly" because there are a few secret taunts, like the Japanese-heavy Lylat Cruise chats, that still need to be found and added to this compilation. Luigi pretty much steals the show (08:15), but the rest of the video is worth watching for Zero Suit Samus's plasma whip tricks (01:45) and Yoshi's cute antics (04:35)!

We don't actually know what the fragrance in these Mario and Luigi air fresheners is. We assume it's fresher than the scent of not an air freshener, at least. Strangely, the product information for these air fresheners doesn't include what they smell like. If it turns out that they smell like a guy in overalls who's been running and jumping all day, then you can just rip out the air freshener part and have cute figurines. Or you can swap in your own air freshening goo, perhaps.

DealExtreme is selling these for $7.61 shipped. That includes both Mario and Luigi, which is ideal for people who like both Mario Bros. or smell exceptionally terrible.

Promotional Consideration is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.

Giant advertising firms with international clients and extravagant budgets aren't the only people working hard to push their video games on you; small mom-and-pop stores also develop stratagems to attract the casual shoppers who haven't yet decided on what to buy. These sales-generating tactics can be something as simple as putting up a notice about in-demand consoles being in stock, or as annoying as hard-selling you on preorders and magazine subscriptions.

One of our favorite schemes, and the topic for this week's Promotional Consideration installment, relies on setting up homemade signs with creative interpretations of video gaming's most recognizable mascot, Mario. We're not sure how the folks at PETA came to the decision to rip off Nintendo for a flash game about chicken cruelty, but we can only figure it's a byproduct of the make-your-own-Mario trend at Joystiq, so that means Super Chick Sisters is really Joystiq's fault. Way to go, guys. When it's lawsuit time, we're totally recommending that someone subpoena you.

So what is Super Chick Sisters? It's a blatant Mario clone (even down to some sound effects!) that features a pair of chick sisters who step in to save the Peach-like Pam Anderson from the evil KFC monsters when Mario and Luigi come down with a bad case of Wiitis. Nugget and Chickette are even decked out in little hats, just like their plumber counterparts, though their Chicken Kingdom is populated not with Goombas and coins, but other chicks, boiling oil, and 1-up tofu boxes. There are also lots of helpful people with scary messages about the horrors of chicken slaughter who encourage you to speed up and save the chickens. Oh, and that princess, too.

Our only real question is this: if you lose, does that make you the enemy, an evil chicken-killer yourself? Chilling.

It's easy to forget that brothers Mario and Luigi actually have day jobs, since they're so busy driving go karts, smashing mushrooms, and playing dress-up, but this shirt serves as a reminder that the dynamic duo can also take care of those pesky U-bend clogs for you. If they were real, we would totally call them for all our plumbing needs.

Well, folks, this is likely to be the very last week for Mii Spotlight. Just as we were talking about the difficulty of scoring Nintendo merchandise, this auction pops up on eBay. With bobblehead figurines of Luigi, Mario, Bowser and Yoshi, we find ourselves wishing we had quicker reflexes, as the auction has already closed. All figurines ended up going to one lucky individual who chose the option to buy it now for the fair price of 39.99 GBP.

If you ever find yourself in Oslo, Norway, during your travels, you might just run into a few familiar faces. That would be the faces of sprites from Nintendo mascots and other gaming characters alike, gracing trash cans and signs all about the town. And, upon looking at TheFunkyHorror's Flickr photo set, we wonder how much walking around the guy did to take all of these pictures.

There's a party going on tomorrow and the Tanooki got a sneak preview of the decor. It's a full-on Super Mario themed bash, complete with all the stuff you'd expect to find in a Mario game. This fantastic Chain Chomp piñata is just waiting to be smashed, hopefully by a jumping kid in a Mario costume. Seriously, if there's an invite going free, we'd love it.

With only a few months to go before the release of Super Mario Galaxy, expectations couldn't be higher for Nintendo's flagship hero. The title was recently confirmed for release this year, leaving our Nunchuk thumbs quivering in anticipation.

Mario is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders, however. The groundbreaking titles, from the original Super Mario Brothers through to Super Mario 64 (sorry, Mario Sunshine), were more than great games; they also defined their platforms, setting new standards both technically and in terms of design.

There's a new microsite for Mario Strikers Charged. There is little more than a promo video and some boxart at present, but more is apparently on the way. We got a quick look at the game last month, and thought it seemed pretty fun, particularly in multiplayer. The game will feature online play, the first to do so in Europe and Australia, with ranked matches limited to players in the same region. You'll also be able to swap friend codes for unranked matches - friend codes will be assigned to your Mii rather than your console, so if you happen to share a console with someone whose friends you hate, you won't have to play them.

We're also looking forward to trying the Mega Strikes: where the ball splits into five shots, which your opponent has to block with the Wiimote. Taking multiple shots at the keeper always used to get us in trouble at school, but here it's positively encouraged - you'll get a goal for each one that hits the back of the net.

Mario Strikers Charged kicks and screams its way into Europe on May 25th, with other regions to follow.

NeoGAFfer Chittagong found this bag of pasta in a Citymarket in Finland. The package is sending a very clear message, and that message is "It's-a not quite me, Maaaario!"

Apparently when Mario and Luigi took off on their Mushroom Kingdom adventure, Mario's less-famous identical brother Marco stuck around and devoted his time to making delicious dried pastas. Either that or some unscrupulous company has shamelessly ripped off Mario's likeness. We'll leave it up to you to determine which is more likely-- that this is the work of an unknown relative of a fictional character or of real-world jerks.

Hey, maybe Marco will show up in Good Smash Friends Battle for the Nintenco Wuu!

Katana?!
All this week, the DS Fanboy staff is letting you in on a few of their favorite titles. Each day, a different member of the staff will present their personal top five DS games along with a snapshot of their gaming paraphernalia and habits, in an effort to provide our readers with a little more information on the tastes and personalities of our writers.

It's odd; in the past two years, I've played my DS more than any other system, console or otherwise. However, I very rarely play outside of the comfort of my own room. Sure, I have the ten minute bus ride to campus everyday, and an hour break between classes, but the bus ride is relaxing and the hour I spend on campus, playing chess with some friends. It's really a testament to the quality of the library on the DS, that it would stand against the heavy-hitting consoles without the added advantage of portability.

I'm a bit of a Renaissance gamer, playing titles far and wide. Sure, I've grown tired of the World War II shooters, but if a game is innovative and/or well-crafted, I'll give it a shot. I also like bunnies and salsa dancing and figure skating; I'm so macho.

We wonder what could ever drive the brothers Mario to such a dispute that would need to be resolved with firearms? We then remember the Mushroom Kingdom being home to a certain princess and find ourselves thinking that people have killed over less. But, come on! That's your brother, Mario, your blood!

All joking aside, this snapshot comes from Garry's mod where apparently you can play some Half-Life 2 as Mario or Luigi, and infringe on some copyright laws. Anyone interested in doing so probably needs to keep an eye on Garry's Mod here, which all the cats tell us is pretty much their only set of pajamas.

We've been privy to undocumented Wii features like the 192-Piece Picture Puzzle and the elusive Help Cat for a while now, but did you know that there's a secret Shopping Channel animation of Mario and Luigi swimming together while you're at the download screen?

During a recent roundtable, the developers behind the Wii Shopping Channel talked about how they overcame obstacles with the project, which elements they're proud of, and what they hope to see implemented in the future. One little touch that the developers were pleased to include was this Minus World-esque scene of the Super Mario Bros. paddling through and collecting coins while you download games. It doesn't show up very often, so don't be too upset if you've never come across anything besides the Fire Mario animation before.

We didn't even believe it at first, but Nintendo included a video with the interview transcript to prove its existence. It's a good thing they did too, or we would've gone through our life savings downloading Virtual Console titles, trying to get this alternate animation!

Poor Luigi. The lanky plumber already has enough problems dealing with his older brother always stealing the spotlight and Princess Daisy's failure to commit to a serious relationship, but now he has to worry about embarassing photos from 20 years ago resurfacing on the internet. We all have our fair share of unflattering pictures from the 80s, but the images posted for this vintage Super Mario Bros. doll auction are downright embarassing.

This 3.5'-tall toy was a promotional item from Nintendo that was never released to the general public. Head past the post break to see what the green guy looked like before he tamed his hair and trimmed his mustache. He really let himself go back then -- look at that hat!
