Xbox Live is home to a new Machinima app, allowing you to view that website's content, like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/mortal-kombat-legacy-2-set-for-q2-2013-new-cast-details/">Mortal Kombat: Legacy</a> </em>and everything else, through your Xbox. Joining that app are three more entertainment options, which we'd categorize as "interestingly eclectic."<br />
<br />
Tune into the Events Player on Thursday, and you'll be able to watch the <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/events/golden-gods">Revolver Golden Gods Awards Show</a>, which is apparently some kind of rock/metal show, and which has apparently been going on for five years. The show is SmartGlass-enhanced, allowing you to fill out polls, see backstage interviews, and "Check out the award nominees in categories like "'Best Drummer,' 'Comeback of the Year' and 'Most Metal Athlete.'"<br />
<br />
Starting May 10, Xbox Video will host new episodes of The LeBrons, an animated series about LeBron James based on Nike commercials. And in the indefinite future, a OneBeat app will be released on Xbox with a calendar of events, ticket sales and more for electronic dance music. Eclectic!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/01/machinima-app-other-wildly-random-entertainment-on-xbox-live/">Machinima app, other wildly random entertainment on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 May 2013 14:30:00 EST. To see the year's best dice innovations honored - achievements in the number of sides, dot designs, and custom color schemes - go to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/machinimalive">this site</a> starting at 7pm PST (10pm EST).<br /><br />Actually, we've just been told it's the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dice-2013">DICE</a> Awards, and it's about video games. Now we understand why our editor suggested we put this on Joystiq. <em>Journey</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/14/2013-dice-award-nominations-led-by-journey-walking-dead-far-cr/">up for game of the year</a> (though it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/03/joystiq-top-10-of-2012-journey/">already won the one that counts</a>), against <em>Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, Walking Dead, </em>and<em> XCOM</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/watch-the-dice-awards-live-tonight-at-10pm-est/">Watch the DICE Awards live tonight at 10pm EST</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Feb 2013 19:45:00 EST. He added shortly after, "Along with many of my friends."<br /><br />Machinima employee Justin Fassino <a href="https://twitter.com/Justegarde/status/279653249387208704">tweeted</a> around the same time: "Effective immediately I am no longer at Machinima. Would love to send an official email with my contact info but they took my computer."<br /><br />Other employees are also reporting they've been let go. We've reached out to Machinima.com for an official comment.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: We got in touch with Machinima Editor-in-Chief Rob Smith, who told us that 23 people of the company's 200 staff were let go today across programming and production (editorial).<br /><br />"This is growing pains. Machinima has grown a lot in a short amount of time. We had to look at the business, look at where we're focusing," Smith told us. "It has hit the editorial group, but we are still doing editorial coverage in a slightly different way."<br /><br />Smith stressed that Machinima.com would continue to have editorial content. He also mentioned that the company currently has 15 job openings.<br /><br /><strong>Update 2</strong>: Machinima has released an official statement: "Today Machinima underwent a reorganization to address its global growth, and this process unfortunately resulted in layoffs. Less than 10% of Machinima's workforce was effected. Also as part of the restructure Machinima is hiring across key divisions including Sales, Marketing and Product."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/14/machinima-layoffs/">Machinima.com cuts staff by 10%, EIC calls it 'growing pains' [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2012 14:15:00 EST. Titled <em>Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2, </em>the follow-up to the 2011 web-series<em> </em>is being brought to YouTube by Machinima, who Microsoft recently teamed up with on <em>Halo 4 </em>tie-in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-4-forward-unto-dawn">Forward Unto Dawn</a></em>.<br /><br />Kevin Tancharoen returns as director and writer, while the cast list is beginning to fill with fairly recognizable names. That's come at the expense of some first season actors, such as Matt Mullins who's been replaced as Johnny Cage by Casper Van Dien (<em>Starship Troopers</em>).<br /><br />In new castings, Harry Shum Jr. (<em>Glee</em>) plays Kuai Liang, and Brian Tee (<em>The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift)</em>, stars as Liu Kang. Old-school fans will recognize Cary Tagawa reprising the role of Shang Tsung from the 1995 <em>Mortal Kombat</em> film, while Ian Anthony Dale (<em>Charmed</em>) returns from the first season and <em>Mortal Kombat: Rebirth</em> as Scorpion.<br /><br />If you're super eager for footage of the upcoming season, Tancharoen is debuting a clip of it at the upcoming <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streamy_Awards">Streamy Awards</a> on February 17, 2013.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/mortal-kombat-legacy-2-set-for-q2-2013-new-cast-details/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 set for Q2 2013, new cast details</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/mortal-kombat-legacy-2-set-for-q2-2013-new-cast-details/">Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 set for Q2 2013, new cast details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 17:30:00 EST. Machinima's live-action prequel to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-4"><em>Halo 4</em></a> follows Corbulo Academy cadets who suddenly find themselves right in the heart of war. One cadet in particular, Thomas Lasky, has the spotlight shone upon him relentlessly, and in this final episode it's time for him to step up and be counted. With the help of a certain John-117, of course.<br /><br />While <em>Forward Unto Dawn</em> isn't the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-movie/">Halo movie</a> some have been hoping for, Microsoft still pumped <a href="http://www.sfgate.com/business/bloomberg/article/Microsoft-Skips-Theaters-With-10-Million-3919529.php">$10 million</a> into the series, which totals at around 84 minutes. In other words, this is as close as you're going to get for the time being.<br /><br />If you missed them, we've got episodes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/05/halo-4-forward-unto-dawns-first-episode-goes-live-watch-it-ri/">1</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/halo-4-forward-unto-dawn-episode-2-tries-to-capture-the-flag/">2</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/19/halo-4-forward-unto-dawn-episode-3-is-not-a-drill/">3</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/halo-4-forward-unto-dawn-episode-4-hails-to-the-chief/">4</a> right here.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/02/halo-4-forward-unto-dawn-episode-5-finishes-its-fight/">Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Episode 5 finishes its fight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Nov 2012 06:01:00 EST. The 19-minute opener introduces us to the cadets of the Corbulo Academy of Military Science, an institute that only trains the offspring of the United Nations Space Command's high-ranking officers. While it sounds and looks like a comfortable place, the Corbulo Academy is awash with the tension of expectation. In this first episode, we see just how onerous that expectation can be. We also see a live-action Warthog, which is pretty neat.<br /><br />Machinima's web series runs through to the launch of <em>Halo 4</em> next month on November 6.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/05/halo-4-forward-unto-dawns-first-episode-goes-live-watch-it-ri/">Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn's first episode goes live, watch it right here</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2012 06:01:00 EST. Valve announced the news last evening on its Source Filmmaker blog, alongside word of a database for organizing, viewing, and rating the various creations of SFM users. <br />
You know, the younger crowd has more ways than ever to pay homage to their favorite games. Back in our day, the only "machinima" we could produce were crude sketches of Chrono and the Battletoads in our Trapper Keeper. Now kids can produce short films about their favorite game using their favorite game!<br />
<br />
And that's pretty much what <em>Halo: Eye of the Storm is</em>. Created under <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Community/Developer/Rules">Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules</a> in <em>Halo 3</em>, this 22 minute epic re-imagines the events of The Storm, the game's fifth campaign mission. In his submission email to Joystiq, creator Philip Kang told us it took over two years to create <em>Eye of the Storm</em>. He had to play through the same mission over 100 times trying to get the AI to do specific things necessary for each shot. Actors, <em>right</em>?<br />
<br />
In the end, it was all worth it: Kang's created a video masterpiece, now featured on a website our friend's uncle once called "a website."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/30/halo-eye-of-the-storm-is-anything-but-calm/">Halo: Eye of the Storm is anything but calm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Dec 2011 02:02:00 EST. Epic's Rod Fergusson says on Twitter that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/gears-of-war-3"><em>Gears of War 3</em></a> is getting its Title Update 2 this evening at 2am PDT. Here's <a href="http://epicgames.com/community/category/gears-of-war/">the list of what's changing</a>; the biggest update is that the game is getting a spectator mode for gaming leagues to use which will turn the normally 5v5 matches into 4v4, with each team getting an optional spectator spot. Players grinding for rewards will appreciate the update as well, as the Leader and Vengeful medals are easier to earn, as are the Roadie Comet and Regen Enemies mutators.<br />
<br />
The update also tweaks some UI functionality, including adding an indicator during King of the Hill matches, and adding the option to remove the UI for machinima and video producers. And there are a few bugfixes as well -- host migration in Horde will now stick to the same wave as when it happened, and there are fixes for the lost progress and profile freezing issues that players have experienced.<br />
<br />
Fergusson says the update will bring down the game's dedicated servers temporarily, and players will need to restart their games to load it up. But follow those instructions, and you can be back to scratching all of the grubs you want.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/gears-of-war-3-getting-title-update-2-tonight-with-spectator-mod/">Gears of War 3 getting Title Update 2 tonight with spectator mode, easier medals and mutators</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Nov 2011 20:00:00 EST. Celebrate Felicia Day ... day with the release of two Dragon Age creations featuring the actress. Both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dragon-age-2"><em>Dragon Age 2's</em></a> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin/">Mark of the Assassin</a>" DLC and the first episode of the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age-redemption"><em>Dragon Age: Redemption</em></a> web series, featuring Day as the elf Tallis, are premiering today. Day also wrote and produced the <em>Redemption</em> shorts.<br />
<br />
For the DLC, you'll have to pay $10 on Xbox, PC, Mac, or PS3 (coming later today when the PSN updates). For that episode of Machinima's web series, you'll have to pay attention to the top of this post.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin-launch/">Dragon Age 2 - Mark of the Assassin (Launch)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin-launch/#4517639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/da2dlc2launch-wm-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin-launch/#4517640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/da2dlc2launch-wm-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/psa-play-dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin-dlc-watch-redemp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSA: Play Dragon Age 2 'Mark of the Assassin' DLC, watch 'Redemption' web series today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/psa-play-dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin-dlc-watch-redemp/">PSA: Play Dragon Age 2 'Mark of the Assassin' DLC, watch 'Redemption' web series today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 15:45:00 EST. If you can't bear to watch LARP-ing unless it's wrapped in professional production and synergistic, transmedia-compatible fiction, you'll want to tune in to <em>Dragon Age: Redemption</em>, a six-episode web series starting on October 11. Actually, ignore the "tune in" anachronism: <em>Redemption</em> will debut exclusively on <a href="http://youtube.com/machinima">Machinima's Youtube channel</a>.<br />
<br />
The show has an interactive companion in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/felicia-day-takes-us-through-dragon-age-2-mark-of-the-assassin/"><em>Dragon Age 2: Mark of the Assassin</em></a>, a new downloadable expansion that also launches on October 11. Both stories are propelled by the star power of Felicia Day, who plays a sarcastic elf assassin. It must be a tough life, always being on the verge of assassinating yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/dragon-age-redemption-series-debuts-on-machinima-next-week/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dragon Age: Redemption series debuts on Machinima next week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/dragon-age-redemption-series-debuts-on-machinima-next-week/">Dragon Age: Redemption series debuts on Machinima next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. <br />
You may not have ever thought "Hey, I'd really like to see a video game show with Tommy Wiseau in it." But no one wanted him to write, direct and star in <em>The Room</em> either, and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ4KzClb1C4">look how that turned out</a>.<br />
<br />
So it's with a blend of joy, anticipation and dread that we present the trailer for upcoming Machinima production <em>The Tommy Wi-Show</em>, a weekly series that "follows Wiseau as he is repeatedly abducted by different races of mysterious aliens and transported to distant planets, where he is forced to test popular video games."<br />
<br />
It launches on Sept. 26. May God have mercy on us all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/14/the-tommy-wi-show-is-a-video-game-show-with-tommy-wiseau/">The Tommy Wi-Show is a video game show with Tommy Wiseau</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Sep 2011 17:10:00 EST. We always knew there was more to Bomberman than his round, antennaed visage could possibly show. The Game Station -- the minds behind the equally revealing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk9oa_PiXAk"><em>Brothers Mario</em> machinima</a> -- have lovingly crafted a live-action take on Hudson Soft's age-old franchise. It's as delightful as it is combustible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/bomberman-movie-trailer-makes-rollerskates-awesome-again/">Bomberman movie trailer makes rollerskates awesome again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jul 2011 15:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwO5I4QXmuc">Machinima</a> clip posted after the jump is, in many ways, <em>deplorable</em>. It shows some of our most beloved game characters of all time brutally fatality-ing a number of <em>Mortal Kombat</em> fighters, and we're finding it difficult to shake. On the other hand, we've gotta have that <em>NBA Jam</em> cameo. We <em>need</em> it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/mortal-kombat-secret-character-tryouts-may-disturb-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mortal Kombat secret character tryouts may disturb you</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/mortal-kombat-secret-character-tryouts-may-disturb-you/">Mortal Kombat secret character tryouts may disturb you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Apr 2011 01:38:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/the-brothers-mario-machinima-brings-the-mushroom-kingdom-to-li/">Machinima stars The Brothers Mario</a> are back, and they've <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw7CKnfk4JY">brought a new character</a> with them: "Don Keykong," a mob boss who's bananas for vengeance. Along with all of the other cameos, there's even <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hsH39ekozE">a music video for the gangsta anthem</a> featured in the trailer. This is fun! A supposedly leaked trailer billing itself as "<em>Batman: Arkham City</em> - Warner Bros - Trailer Fight" has made its way to French video-sharing site <a href="http://www.kewego.fr/video/iLyROoafzzNy.html">Kewego</a>. The approximately 2-minute clip features our fearless Dark Knight beating up baddies with ... the Joker? Putting aside our canonical concerns about the caped crusader clobbering criminals with the clown prince of crime, a few other things raise immediate bat signals.<br />
<br />
Join us after the break for our best world's greatest detective impersonation as we <em>piece together the clues</em> and reveal the truth about this "Trailer Fight."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/26/would-be-batman-arkham-city-trailer-is-fishy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Would-be Batman: Arkham City trailer is fishy, let's take a closer look</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/26/would-be-batman-arkham-city-trailer-is-fishy/">Would-be Batman: Arkham City trailer is fishy, let's take a closer look</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 14:40:00 EST. Usually, we balk at fan-made creations that take innocent, classic game characters and put them in <em>mature</em> scenarios. That's not the case with this <em>GTA IV</em> machinima, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk9oa_PiXAk"><em>The Brothers Mario</em></a> -- not because it's especially hilarious, mind you, but because it's actually, <em>unbelievably</em> <em>badass</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/the-brothers-mario-machinima-brings-the-mushroom-kingdom-to-li/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'The Brothers Mario' machinima brings the Mushroom Kingdom to Liberty City</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/the-brothers-mario-machinima-brings-the-mushroom-kingdom-to-li/">'The Brothers Mario' machinima brings the Mushroom Kingdom to Liberty City</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Dec 2010 12:40:00 EST. In a lot of ways, this <em>WoW</em> video taken in Stormwind by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF5x_AS1yYw">MrZoddiak</a> defies classification -- it's not a music video, nor is it a re-enactment. We don't know about you, but seeing <em><a href="http://wow.joystiq.com">WoW</a></em> machinima in this clip instead of R.E.M.'s lead singer Michael Stipe is <em>totally fine</em>. And the song -- a rendition of "It's the End of the World" by Nyhm &amp; Sharm -- could be more gracefully sung, sure, but it's really the <em>heart</em> coming through that counts.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/wow-machinima-music-video-takes-on-r-e-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>WoW machinima music video takes on R.E.M.</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/wow-machinima-music-video-takes-on-r-e-m/">WoW machinima music video takes on R.E.M.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Nov 2010 21:00:00 EST. Do you feel like taking a break from the toils of your day to watch an action-packed blockbuster, but don't really feel like dedicating ninety minutes to watching a film? There's an easy solution to that: check out YouTube user Kitty0706's "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvdMGbOjAaQ">The Jacknife Chronicles</a>," a twelve-minute, remarkably violent revenge story created entirely within Garry's Mod for <em>Half-Life 2</em>. We anticipate that it will it satisfy your action cravings in a fairly efficient manner.<br />
<br />
The short film, which borrows more than a few locales and soundtrack clips from <em>Mirror's Edge</em> and <em>Portal</em>, can be found in its entirety after the jump. It's a little NSFW -- especially if you happen to work as a security guard in a high-tech compound.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/the-best-garrys-mod-chinima-weve-ever-seen-jacknife-chronicle/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The best Garry's Mod-chinima we've ever seen: Jacknife Chronicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/the-best-garrys-mod-chinima-weve-ever-seen-jacknife-chronicle/">The best Garry's Mod-chinima we've ever seen: Jacknife Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 18:00:00 EST. This Saturday at midnight (ET), Fox will air a 30-minute short film <em>made from</em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/red-dead-redemption"><em>Red Dead Redemption</em></a>. That's right -- this film was created using in-game assets. And it's not just any old basement machinima -- it's been directed by John Hillcoat (<em>The Road</em>) and, according to Rockstar's <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/5891/an_original_short_film_made_from_red_dead_redemption_airing_on_fox_this_saturday_night.article">description</a>, "reimagines" protagonist John Marston's, uh, <em>redemption,</em> as he pursues that prickly Bill Williamson.<br />
<br />
Sounds interesting enough -- just so long as it doesn't interrupt <em>MADtv</em>. Jonesing for more stories set in the grim <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age-origins"><em>Dragon Age</em></a> universe, but don't have the patience to wait for the game's next expansion? <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRVTl2ii8BM">Machinima.com recently produced</a> a canonical miniseries set in the days following <em>Origins</em>' ending, and tells the story of Kristoff, another Gray Warden which players encounter in the <em>Awakenings</em> DLC. Considering the miniseries is titled "Warden's Fall," we seriously doubt things are going to turn out all roses and sunshine for him.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRVTl2ii8BM">first episode</a> of the series went live earlier today, and can be found posted after the jump. If you're a fan of the game, it's well worth seven minutes of your time.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/22/machinima-com-creates-canonical-expansion-to-dragon-age-origins/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Machinima.com creates canonical expansion to Dragon Age: Origins</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/22/machinima-com-creates-canonical-expansion-to-dragon-age-origins/">Machinima.com creates canonical expansion to Dragon Age: Origins</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 May 2010 19:30:00 EST. If you've played through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/heavy-rain"><em>Heavy Rain</em></a>, you know that most problems can't be solved by <em>shooting a dude in the face</em>. For <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv">GTA IV</a>'s Niko Bellic, that's very much a real problem solver -- a tactic he has no problem using. So it's a pretty odd juxtaposition to see the two games spliced together like they are in the video past the break.<br />
<br />
It's a pretty great video, but we feel we should warn you that you probably won't get it if you've never played <em>Heavy Rain</em>. Unless <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1kFNxpp-Ak#t=4m30s">you're watching this part</a>, which we're pretty sure is funny no matter what game(s) you've played.<br />

We like us some <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a> videos around these parts. We love the official Valve <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/17/it-was-obvious-meet-team-fortress-2s-spy/">"Meet the" videos</a> and we also dig <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/20/smash-bros-intro-done-with-team-fortress-2-cast/">fan-made awesomeness</a>. This particular video falls in the second category and it could make you reconsider putting your own video on the internet for all to see. You see, it just might have trouble competing. Without spoiling the magic, we can tell you two things about the video embedded after the break.<br />
<ol>
    <li>The video is based on the recent suspense flick <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1197624/"><em>Law Abiding Citizen</em></a>.</li>
    <li>The video is called "Law Abiding Engineer."</li>
</ol>

Between Blizzard lending a helping hand <a href="http://www.wow.com/2009/12/31/blizzard-helps-authorities-track-fugitive/">in a drug bust</a> and the <em>WoW</em>-playing cougar <a href="http://www.wow.com/2010/01/05/teen-runs-away-to-meet-adult-wow-soulmate/">meeting her teenage soulmate</a>, <em>World of Warcraft</em> spent a not insignificant amount of time in the news this past week. In the game itself, players continue to ride the waves of last month's release of patch 3.3 and Blizzard tries its hardest to bribe players into running one of <em>Wrath of the Lich King</em>'s worst dungeons.<br />

Machinima user M0rtanius has created another video that mashes up a classic Konami title with <em>Half-Life 2</em>. His <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/15/castlevania-half-life-2-mod-brings-belmont-to-the-source/">original piece</a> placed <em>Half-Life</em>'s protagonist into the world of <em>Castlevania</em>, whereas this latest one features <em>Contra</em>. The attention to the level design is pretty neat in both, and the music is lifted straight from the NES games, but it's just not the same without the <em>Contra</em> arsenal and Simon's whip. Also, we're not seeing any <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_Code">Konami code</a> being entered, which means a quick end could not be far behind. Check out both clips after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/half-contra-explores-nes-contra-as-done-by-half-life-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Half-Contra' explores NES Contra as done by Half-Life 2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/half-contra-explores-nes-contra-as-done-by-half-life-2/">'Half-Contra' explores NES Contra as done by Half-Life 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 17:00:00 EST. What if your favorite video game characters came to life? You'd think it would be a cause for celebration, but <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c65kmeTwvvM"><em>Cloverbrawl</em></a>, the latest film from the geniuses behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/sackboy-comes-to-life-in-littlebigrevenge-machinima/"><em>LittleBigRevenge</em></a>, suggests otherwise. The two-part 20-minute film touts some impressive special effects, splicing in characters from a myriad of games, from <em>Smash Bros</em>, to <em>LocoRoco</em>, to <em>Left 4 Dead</em>, and more. The team at Rooster Teeth is in promo mode, releasing the second (of four) special episodes of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Red-vs-Blue/">Red vs. Blue</a></em> to celebrate the upcoming release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo-3-ODST/">Halo 3: ODST</a></em> for GameStop. The videos follow everyone's favorite clueless Spartans as they prepare for the arrival of new competition -- the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers -- by previewing the "non-Spartan class" soldiers in action.<br /><br />What's expected to be video of humans getting picked apart by the enemy turns into a showcase of the ODST group decimating Covenant forces. Looks like the ODST aren't going to be the pushovers the <em>RvB</em> Spartans had hoped for. Poor guys, they just can't catch a break. Check out episode two of the four part arc after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/red-vs-blue-pimps-halo-3-odst-at-gamestop/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Red vs. Blue pimps Halo 3: ODST at GameStop</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/red-vs-blue-pimps-halo-3-odst-at-gamestop/">Red vs. Blue pimps Halo 3: ODST at GameStop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 22:30:00 EST. Perhaps you've heard of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-vs-blue"><em>Red Vs. Blue</em></a>? The amateur movie makers at Rooster Teeth used the <em>Halo</em> franchise to launch a rather prolific machinima series, with over 100 episodes constructed from naught but witty dialogue and bobbing cyborg heads. Naughty Dog is hoping the community will take advantage of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-2"><em>Uncharted 2</em></a> in the same way with its suite of impressive machinima tools.<br />
<br />
Most will use the in-game recording to show off their best multiplayer moments, but the truly dedicated will be enticed by what <em>Uncharted 2</em> can offer. Players can place Drake in front of a green screen, for example, and queue up various animations and camera angles. Taking that footage, a professional video editor can transplant Drake into the Sex and the City movie or an old episode of Power Rangers -- the possibilities are endless!<br />
<br />
In addition, players can don a headset when doing facial close-ups. The animation system is intelligent enough to turn your audio stream into lip syncing for the on-screen characters. For added authenticity, you can even hire <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0636046/">Nolan North</a> to voice Drake. It should be pretty easy, considering he seemingly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars">never</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadow-complex">turns</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">down</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/infamous">a</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alpha-protocol">role</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/army-of-two"><em>ever</em></a>. Check out the tools in motion after the break.<br />

Aww. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LittleBigPlanet/">LittleBigPlanet</a></em>'s textured protagonist sure is adorable, right? <em>Wrong</em>. Behind those glassy eyes lies the cold, calculating brain of a trained killer. Behind his crude stitches sleeps the twisted, Stygian heart of a madman. We've had the impression for some time that Sackboy possessed the capacity for terrible violence -- and a new <em>LBP </em>machinima masterpiece titled <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/04/16/we-love-machinima-littlebigrevenge/"><em>LittleBigRevenge</em> </a>only strengthens our fears.<br /><br />Produced by a Belgian amateur filmmaking crew named <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/SeakittenCollective">Seakitten Collective</a>, <em>LittleBigRevenge</em> (which we've posted after the jump) shows us why one should never summon this incorrigible bastard into the physical realm -- and why one should never, <em>ever</em> mess with his ladyfriend. It's also one of the best pieces of machinima we've seen in a while. If this ain't <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/03/01/how-to-receive-the-coveted-littlebigplanet-crown/">crown-worthy</a>, we don't know what is.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/sackboy-comes-to-life-in-littlebigrevenge-machinima/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sackboy comes to life in LittleBigRevenge machinima</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/sackboy-comes-to-life-in-littlebigrevenge-machinima/">Sackboy comes to life in LittleBigRevenge machinima</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Apr 2009 02:00:00 EST. We normally don't give a lot of thought to what some of our favorite games would be like ... if they played like other games. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/video-when-halo-3-met-fallout-3/">recent mashup video</a> of <span style="font-style: italic;">Halo </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">Fallout 3</span>s's V.A.T.S. system got us thinking, though. As if hearing our brains whirring, two YouTubers by the names of ChilledChaos and Rottentoenail have created a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/machinima">machinima</a> exploring what <span style="font-style: italic;">Halo</span> combat would be like in the <span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy </span>universe. (Hint: it's ... slow.) <br /><br />Still, the video's a hoot -- and, we must say, very well executed. You can watch the full clip (it runs a little too long) after the break. Then we'd like to hear which games <span style="font-style: italic;">you </span>think would be cool to see presented like other games.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=news&amp;link=halofinalfantasy">Bungie.net</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/video-what-if-halo-played-like-final-fantasy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: What if ... Back in 2007, movie director <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0088955/">Neill Blomkamp</a> put together a three piece spectacle of <em>Halo</em>-sized proportions called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/video-neill-blomkamps-halo-3-landfall/"><em>Halo: Landfall</em></a>. The all live action video was a glimpse of what the (now dead) <em>Halo </em>movie could have been if Blomkamp's movie magic were applied.<br /><br />Well, two enthusiastic <em>Halo </em>fanboys took it upon themselves to re-create the entire <em>Landfall </em>film experience as a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPWSncZk918">machinima</a> using <em>Halo 3</em>'s game engine. Admittedly, UNSC soldiers are swapped out for Spartans and Brutes are replaced with Elites, but other than that, the video is spot on. Oh how we miss the days when our <em>Halo </em>film dreams were still a possibility ... sigh.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/fanmade-h3-machinima-re-creates-blomkamps-landfall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fan made H3 machinima re-creates Blomkamp's 'Landfall'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/fanmade-h3-machinima-re-creates-blomkamps-landfall/">Fan made H3 machinima re-creates Blomkamp's 'Landfall'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 10:00:00 EST. Okay, so maybe it isn't so much machinima as it is an amusing use of the limited control players have over Avatars, but it's funny so bear with us. Sure, you might have played around with your Avatar. You might have twirled its head around until it got dizzy. Maybe you figured out that you can slam its face into the screen if you zoom in close enough while taking your gamer picture. But, did you know that your Avatar can sing and dance? It's true. Just check out the video above (and another embedded after the break) and see for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/that-was-quick-avatar-machinima-sort-of/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>That was quick: Avatar machinima (sort of)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/that-was-quick-avatar-machinima-sort-of/">That was quick: Avatar machinima (sort of)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 11:20:00 EST. <div align="left">Of course, if you know Blizzard at all, you know it doesn't really like the whole concept of "release dates" -- the developers prefer to say they'll release the next <em>WoW</em> expansion "when it's ready." But a bunch of retailers have recently <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/29/online-retailers-point-towards-a-november-4-release-for-wrath/2#comments">pointed their noses at November 4th</a> (with a November 3rd midnight release, so says the sign from an Australian store above), and if that turns out to be true, it's gonna be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/resistance-2-releasing-nov-4-co-op-beta-starting-early-oct/">a busy Election Day</a>. That story and more, all in these highlights from the last week of WoW Insider.<br />
