It's been well over a year since the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/zen-pinball"><em>ZEN Pinball</em></a> on PSN, and the updates keep on coming. On July 27, you'll be able to download the space-themed Mars table ... and, best of all, it'll only cost $2.49. Trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/24/zen-pinball-goes-to-mars-next-week-for-2-49/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ZEN Pinball goes to Mars next week for $2.49</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/24/zen-pinball-goes-to-mars-next-week-for-2-49/">ZEN Pinball goes to Mars next week for $2.49</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jul 2010 08:00:00 EST. We know that not everyone was blessed with knowledge of aeronautical physics and interplanetary telecommunications, so we'll try and keep this simple. <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/will-we-ever-game-against-mars">A recent Edge Online article</a> examined the possibility of online multiplayer matches between human Earthlings and human Martians -- as one might expect, the future of galactic <em>Left 4 Dead</em> bouts looks pretty grim.<br /><br />First off, NASA's two Martian orbiters, through which information is relayed to Earth, can only transfer a single megabit of data per second. Worse still, these orbiters only work in 15 minute increments before they must be repositioned -- a process that takes hours. Furthermore, bandwidth is unsurprisingly limited on the Red Planet -- messages between Earth and Mars usually suffer 4 - 20 minutes of lag, depending on the positions of the conversing planets.<br /><br />Check out <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/will-we-ever-game-against-mars">the full article</a> for even more interesting tidbits about extraterrestrial multiplayer. It's all a bit pointless, though. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction-guerilla">From what we've recently learned</a>, folks on Mars are <em>far</em> too busy causing property damage to play any video games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/06/online-gaming-between-earth-and-mars-will-be-laggy-as-hell/">Online gaming between Earth and Mars will be laggy as hell</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Aug 2009 06:00:00 EST. An Xbox 360 version of developer Spiders' upcoming game, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mars"><em>Mars</em></a><em>,</em> may be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/spiders-ps3-rpg-mars-creeps-onto-xbox-360/">planned</a>, but apparently there's currently no work being done on it. <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/mars-is-not-being-developed-for-the-xbox-360-despite-plans-137408.phtml">Destructoid</a> spoke with Spiders CEO Jehanne Rousseau, who said that the company sorta needs a publisher to fund the project first.<br /><br />Rousseau explained that the developer is currently shopping for a publisher and will give a "final answer" on an Xbox 360 version when it has a contract in hand -- or lack thereof. Bucking the trend, Spiders is developing <em>Mars</em> for PS3 <em>because</em> it's a "very complicated platform." Hopefully, the extra work will put it in the company of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/naughty-dog">Naughty Dog</a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sucker-punch">Sucker Punch</a> -- and not that of the ill-fated <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/factor-5">Factor 5</a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/free-radical">Free Radical</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Estee]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/mars-for-xbox-360-still-dependent-on-publisher-support/">Mars for Xbox 360 still dependent on publisher support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 10:30:00 EST. In <em>Mars</em>, players will assume the role of two heroes: Seth, an elite soldier, and Pandora, a "technomancer." The two will have to survive a disaster on a post-apocalyptic colonial Mars. You know, that old chestnut.<br /><br />This action RPG looks to follow the mold of other traditional hack 'n' slash games. This first footage is very rough (to say the least), but with a planned late 2010 release, there's a lot of time to make improvements to the game.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/spiders-ps3-rpg-mars-creeps-onto-xbox-360/">Spiders' PS3 RPG 'Mars' creeps onto Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Apr 2009 15:31:00 EST. French developer Spiders is working on a brand new sci-fi RPG called <em>Mars</em>, currently slated for release on PS3 and PC. The game takes place 200 years after the colonization of Mars. Inexplicably, the orbit of Mars is altered, causing a communications breakdown with Earth and exposing the inhabitants to solar radiation. With supplies and water in short supply, <em>Mars</em> looks to be <strike>Total Recall</strike> an extraterrestrial version of <em>Fallout</em>.<br /><br />Two playable characters are planned for use in the game. Seth, an elite soldier, will have the ability to master a variety of weapons to fight his enemies. Pandora is a "technomancer" equipped with several, magical abilities. Both of their stories will intertwine, giving players two unique perspectives of the world.<br /><br />The first screens (available in our gallery) reveals the game's current, primitive state. But since us PS3 owners are an RPG-starved bunch, we'll watch how <em>Mars</em> progresses.<br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/game-types/role-playing/new-ps3-pc-game-revealed-mars-$1276103.htm">GameZine</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/new-ps3-sci-fi-action-rpg-heads-to-mars/">New PS3 sci-fi action RPG heads to 'Mars'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 13:00:00 EST. The resulting project is actually quite impressive, considering, and we're happy to see that one of the original developers took the time to create a homebrew port of it for the DS. <br />
<br />
Short but sweet, <em>The Martian DS</em> is a side-scrolling shooter in the vein of<em> Alien Hominid</em>. Players roam the city picking up weapons and power-ups while dodging constant gunfire from the local law enforcement. The game really suffers from the lack of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/music">soundtrack</a>, but the original character sprites, especially the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/kururin-doughnuts-randomly-appears-on-gametrailers-with-english/">donut</a>-heaving boss, makes up for it. <br />
