Sure, StarCraft 2 and League of Legends make for some excellent spectator e-sporting events, but there's a specific brand of excitement, tension and hype that can only be found at world-class competitive fighting-game tournaments like the Canada Cup.

Competitors from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Sweden, Japan and Korea will compete in Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (among other titles). The festivities run all day, however the main event (Top 32 for SSF4:AE) starts at 4PM Eastern. Just past the break for the full schedule.

You may remember the story of Noah Solis, the 8-year-old Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 prodigy that captured the minds and hearts of the gaming community by placing in the top 48 at EVO 2011, destroying dozens of grown men in the process. Noah is more than a media darling, however, and his natural aptitude for shaming players with years of experience fighting games hasn't gone unnoticed by the pro set.

Pro-gaming sponsorship consortium/clothing line/hip-hop label The Travelling Circus has signed Noah on to contribute to two of those three ventures, sponsoring his future fighting endeavors as well as launching a clothing line designed by the prodigy himself. Who knows, if Noah's fashion sense is anything like his fighting style, this kid may end up more Gucci than Gouken. At the moment, no information is available as to when his clothing line will be available, or when his first sponsored match is set to take place, but we have a feeling we'll be hearing about Noah long before next year's EVO.

This year's EVO Championship Series was bonkers, you guys. Not only did MVC legend Justin Wong get perfected into third place during the Marvel vs Capcom 3 grand finals, but The Beast took a bewildering fourth place in Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, ending two consecutive years of first-place victories.

This was also the first EVO ever to feature a Mortal Kombat game, which is a major victory for both NetherRealm Studios and the MK kommunity. Historically, Mortal Kombat titles have never been considered balanced or polished enough to participate in high-level tournaments, and EVO's seal of approval goes a long way in legitimizing Mortal Kombat in the eyes of the fighting community.

This year, Noah made it into the top 48 playing Hulk, Sentinel and Wesker, before being knocked out by a much taller and broader player, Chris G. That bully.

According to an unconfirmed report on comics blog The Quarter Bin, next week's Comic-Con in San Diego (Earth-616) will host the announcement of "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3."

We know that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer Ryota Niitsuma will share some news at a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 panel on Saturday, and that Marvel Interactive will have its own panel to discuss several upcoming games, along with "some exciting new details about the future of Marvel vs. Capcom 3." Since Capcom's unlikely to comment before those panels take place, this rumor is hinged on the singling out of MvC3 over the franchise as a whole. (Another possibility: A PC or portable version of the same game.)

Still, The Quarter Bin stakes its reputation on the assertion that Capcom will repeat its Super Street Fighter IV strategy and launch Ultimate MvC3 at a discounted price ($39.99), with 12 extra characters added to the original roster. We remain skeptical of this rumor -- not only have we been unable to turn up any domain registrations for the title, but the Earth-616 Capcom would surely go for "Penultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3" first.

Update: As expected, Capcom gave us its standard response. "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."

After being announced (and then unannounced) earlier this year, it looks like the curtain has been officially raised, as Art Asylum has posted a new interview on the upcoming lineup of figures. The article includes plenty of details on the figures and, more importantly, lots of new pictures. We're particularly fond of M. Bison.

The one we're really waiting to see is M.O.D.O.K., who was apparently pretty hard to fit into the traditional Minimates mold. Unfortunately, he's not coming out until wave 3. Wave 1 arrives this October. Head over to Art Asylum for more images and info.

Update: As a few commenters pointed out, Bison is actually from a Street Fighter 2 line of Minimates (especially considering he's not in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.) The new line will feature an updated Chun-li figure, however.

Capcom announced today that it has shipped two million copies of universe mashup fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds worldwide. Capcom said that the release of MvC3 was "capitalizing on the resurgence of the fighting game boom that began last year" -- you know, the one Capcom started with Street Fighter IV.

These shipments, the company states, zlxo outpace the performance of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. In fact, that game doesn't appear on Capcom's list of million-selling titles at all, suggesting that the sequel outperformed it by a great deal.

Simultaneous tournaments in Union City and Irvine, California will be streamed online as one massive show. Fight for Relief will feature giveaways, interviews and competition in Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom 3 from some of the best in the scene, including EG Justin Wong, Alex Valle, John Choi and others.

The fundraiser kicks off this Sunday, April 3, with all tournament proceeds and donations being given to Japan through GlobalGiving.org, a site that facilitates the actual giving of the money. We imagine flying to Japan with a giant briefcase stuffed full of cash just isn't the most practical way to do it.

If you want to sign up for either tournament, there isn't any pre-registration; just show up to either the NorCal venue or the SoCal venue with some cash and your fight stick and throw down!

The most drastic is a reduction in Sentinel's health, which has been dropped from 1.3 million tiny units (the most health of any fighter in the game) to 905,000, according to Shoryuken.

The patch also nixes a few fairly unfair loops belonging to Spencer, Akuma and Haggar. Hey, why not remove their grappling hook, forbidden demonic Kung-Fu and impossibly gigantic muscles while you're at it? Those seem pretty unfair, too.

Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine have been priced at 400 MS Points ($5) each. It's unclear whether or not this delay is worldwide -- we've contacted Capcom for clarification.

Update: According to the Capcom-Unity blog, players should still expect the DLC tomorrow. We're still waiting for an official statement from Capcom, but it seems US players won't be affected.

Hardware and accessories both saw gains, while software dipped a bit between February 2010 and 2011.

There's also good news in software top ten chart -- at least, good news for people who like the charts to look different every month, with top-ten debuts for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, and Mario Sports Mix, all of which launched in the month of February. The dance genre continued to dominate, with Just Dance 2, Michael Jackson, and Zumba Fitness holding on.

Don't feel too bad for MvC3, though -- Chart-Track notes that the title sold as many copies in its first week as its predecessor did in its lifetime on PS2 and Xbox (the company doesn't have access to the XBLA and PSN figures).

Dead Space 2 stomped the space yard at third, with Test Drive Unlimited 2 downshifting its top gear premiere into fourth. The fifth and sixth spots are occupied by chart stalwarts FIFA 11 and Just Dance 2, respectively. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.

Death Row vs. Bad Boy. Sparta vs. Athens. Yankees vs. Red Sox. Hamilton vs. Burr. Sure, these guys have some bad blood. I'd even go so far as to say they've got beef. But do any of them have the ability to manipulate metal or flex a bionic arm? How about healing powers and adamantium claws? Are any of them gods of thunder? I thought not. Advantage Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

The excuse for bringing all these characters into the same place basically boils down to this: Dr. Doom, of Marvel fame, and Wesker, from the Resident Evil games, try to meld their respective universes in order to take them both over at once. Unfortunately, by doing so, they made it easier for the rampaging planet eater Galactus to chow down on two worlds. It's all fairly inconsequential to the gameplay but, hey, there needs to be at least some reason for bringing all these folks together for a third time. And to be honest, when a game is as much fun as MvC3, I don't really care what that reason is.

Good to see Marvel got the Days of Future Now Deadpool in there, as well as Doom 2099 and the Secret Invasion Super Skrull. Most players who choose the variants might not know where they come from, but you comic book geeks will.

Of course, this last round of backstory also reveals that Marvel and Capcom didn't always have a lot of choices for some of the more obscure characters. Sometimes, they just bent things around as much as possible (witness Thor's continuity-breaking "inspired by" costume variants) and sometimes they just look to the New York Knicks.That's right -- the Mango Sentinel is back.

This idea of AI versions of real people is also being implemented in another upcoming fighter. Dead or Alive Dimensions builds an AI profile of the player, then beams that out via the 3DS's "StreetPass" communication to other players nearby, allowing them to fight against a robot version of you.

Like the most recent iterations of the FightStick, it also includes a locking mechanism to prevent accidental use of the turbo switches.

5,000 MvC3 FightSticks are being produced and will be available from Mad Catz's online store. No price has been named, but previous Tournament Edition sticks have retailed for around $150.

Well, you can forget about redirecting them to Chris Redfield's face when Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ships this February. Plans for Dead Rising 1's main man being playable in MvC3 were in place -- his silhouette appears in the game's debut trailer , and he showed up in our leaked list of characters earlier this year -- but he was cut due to "some extra work involved, just from the nature of his moves."

West was reportedly "quite deep" into the process before getting axed. Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma explained the loss to VideoGamer.com, saying, "We felt we could direct our resources to better use, so we've taken Frank out." We're hoping that "better use" of resources is directed at the development of a Chuck Greene character to round out a Dead Rising character DLC pack. They've murdered thousands of zombies, you know.

IGN recently explored the canonical comic book origins of a handful of Marvel fighters' extra duds, including Storm's crimson X-Treme X-Men get-up, Dormammu's Strange Tales green-and-yellow armor, and Captain America's Red Guardian costume, which, as you probably sussed out, is pretty red.

It looks like Capcom (with a lot of help from Marvel, of course) is taking these character skins pretty seriously. We're happy to see that so much consideration went into these outfits -- but we can't wait to see how they explain all the different additional costumes for Capcom's fighters. "Oh, you don't remember that time that Haggar wore a bright purple chest-belt? That was a real thing that happened, we promise."

Fans of the series will no doubt have spotted Akuma in a British retailer listing for February's big fighting game, and Taskmaster made an appearance in panels from what was rumored to be a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tie-in comic book.

Rather than being unlocked out of the gate, players must earn 2000 PP for Akuma and 8000 PP for Taskmaster -- Eurogamer describes earning 2000 PP as "roughly equivalent to a single playthrough of Arcade Mode," adding that Capcom believes "most players" will unlock all secret characters "within a couple of hours." It is believed that two more characters will be revealed before MvC3 arrives on February 15 -- for now, you can see videos of Taskmaster and Akuma just after the break.

As far as early accidental reveals go, this one's pretty clear, with very official character art (and even a helpful "Akuma" label). We know: huge surprise that Akuma would appear in a Capcom fighting game.

As we always do when a new MvC3 character is discovered, we checked the rumored "leaked" roster we posted in November. Akuma's not there! Given the authentic look of that character art, consider this a mark against the veracity of that list -- or at least evidence that said list is not final.

That is to say: People who quit online matches before they are over. That is to say: Rage quitters. Marvel vs Capcom 3 reportedly tracks players' quitting habits and can detect those who quit frequently. Said players will then be placed in a new matchmaking bracket -- one populated solely by other rage quitters.

In other words, quit all the time and you'll be paired with other players that quit all the time. Shoryuken notes that a similar system was implemented in Tatsunoko vs Capcom. We've contacted Capcom to confirm if such a system is indeed in place for MvC3. Assuming it's true, it's certainly a novel concept, though perhaps a terrifying one for those with unstable internet connections.

His moves include a lot of stuff that should be familiar to Final Fighters, including a big swing of a pipe and a super combo made entirely of a single, repeated punch. Haggar appeared on the leaked roster we had, offering some support for the authenticity of that list.

Another trailer reveals the inclusion of Phoenix -- not the lawyer, before you get too excited -- the unstable version of telekinetic X-men character, Jean Grey. She wasn't on our leaked roster. See both trailers after the break.

Sinking some time into a near-final preview build, I've found that the new iteration of Capcom's beloved series feels very different from the decade-old classic in key aspects of design. Should the developers fail to address certain concerns I believe others would share, I fear Marvel vs Capcom 3 may require a period of adjustment for people expecting more of the same.

First and foremost, I've noticed that MvC3 is a lot slower than the previous game. The fights seem to creep along at a more mundane pace this time around. It just doesn't feel like Marvel vs Capcom.

The images seemingly reveal both Galactus and Taskmaster (aka "that guy who looks like Skeletor") as appearing in the game -- we already had Taskmaster on our leaked list last month, and it's possible that Galactus (the planet eater) is a boss character.

The image gallery has since been removed, but Shoryuken has all the pertinent images hosted on its website.

Also, we know we're supposed to suspend disbelief with the whole superhero thing, but the idea of Chris Redfield challenging the Hulk with a shotgun seems even more comical than his tree-trunk biceps.

Update: The post above has been altered to reflect the anonymity of the images origins. Though it has been reported that comic artist Kevin Sharpe created the images, it is not clear that he did any of the work referred to above.
