We need more Captain America suspenders, more Sammy-J eye patch and more Scar-Jo <em>everything</em>. That <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/04/the-avengers-pinball-table-unmasked/">new <em>Pinball FX 2</em> table</a> kinda helps, but its not really the explosive licensed tie-in gaming experience our bodies are craving.<br /><br />There is hope, however, as a domain for <em>Avengers: Battle for Earth</em> has been registered by Marvel (via brand protection company MarkMonitor) and is currently parked on a Ubisoft server, according to <a href="http://whois.domaintools.com/avengersbattleforearth.com">whois data</a> unearthed by the URL sleuths at <a href="http://fusible.com/2012/05/avengers-battle-for-earth-video-game-headed-to-consoles-according-to-domain/">Fusible</a>.<br /><br />As there have been no official announcements of any sort, the chances of <em>Avengers: Battle for Earth</em> being a super high-octane movie tie-in blockbuster are just as good as it being some sort of social farming/drawing/word search cash in for iOS and/or Facebook. We're keeping our fingers crossed for the first option, but at this point we'll take what we can get. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/05/domain-registered-for-avengers-battle-for-earth-all-signs-po/">Domain registered for 'Avengers: Battle for Earth,' all signs point to Ubisoft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 May 2012 11:30:00 EST. <br />
Disney begins its inevitable assault on Facebook through its subsidiary Marvel, with the upcoming Q1 release of <em>Marvel: Avengers Alliance</em>, a new game for the platform developed by Playdom. It's a "combat role playing game experience with dozens of familiar Marvel superheroes and villains to be collected," in which players can train their stable of Marvel superfolks to upgrade their abilities and stats.<br />
<br />
This, of course, means we can expect to see more Facebook games from both Disney and Marvel -- the floodgates have been thrown open (let's say by the Hulk, in the interest of following the theme). We're surprised that this hadn't already happened!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/">Marvel: Avengers Alliance</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/#4729516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/maamarvel-avengers-alliance-l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/#4729514"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/maahelicarrier-ti_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/#4729517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/maascreenshot01-l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/#4729518"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/maascreenshot02-l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-avengers-alliance/#4729519"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/maascreenshot3-l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/marvel-avengers-alliance-brings-marvel-and-disney-to-facebook-g/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel: Avengers Alliance brings Marvel and Disney to Facebook games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/marvel-avengers-alliance-brings-marvel-and-disney-to-facebook-g/">Marvel: Avengers Alliance brings Marvel and Disney to Facebook games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jan 2012 23:30:00 EST. The PS Vita version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> will largely be the same experience as its console-captivating big brother, save for the touch controls, however Capcom has snuck in a few little extras to whet the whistles of anyone who may be on the fence about purchasing a <em>Marvel vs.</em> game for the third time in one calendar year. <br />
<br />
In addition to sporting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/19/latest-umvc3-patch-live-includes-heroes-and-heralds-mode-and-va/">Heroes and Heralds mode</a> out of the box, Vita's <em>UMvC3</em> variant also includes a spectator mode for watching online matches, as well as the ability to record and save match replays, a feature sorely missed from the console release. Players will also be able to import DLC from their PS3, as well as "trade content" with other Vita owners. Which content specifically is tradable, however, is still up in the air. Let's just hope it isn't Pokemon-style character trading; we don't trust ourselves to not accidentally trade Sentinel for a second Hsien-ko.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/19/umvc3s-various-vita-attributes-outlined-via-trailer/">UMvC3's various Vita attributes outlined via trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Dec 2011 22:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/16/ultimate-mvc3-hits-us-with-free-dlc-heroes-vs-heralds-we-ask-f/">Heroes and Heralds mode</a>, one of Capcom's biggest power plays to convince <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> veterans that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> would be worth their time and dollars, has finally been delivered to patiently punching patrons the world over. In this new mode, players can either fight to save the Earth from Galactus and his cosmic crew of ne'er-do-wells, or join said group of miscreants and work towards the planet's inevitable chomping.<br />
<br />
The mode's big selling point, beyond the shiny silver costumes of course, is the new Ability Card mechanic, which allows players to equip their characters with cards that provide ridiculous and otherwise unobtainable power-ups, such as an X-Factor burst or projectile immunity. Ability Cards are limited to the online and offline versions of Heroes and Heralds, however, so purists need not worry about the numerous balance implications inherent to the system. <br />
<br />
The patch also fixes several game breaking bugs, including Wolverine's Spencer-assisted Swiss Cheese infinite combo and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/04/welcome-to-umvc3s-reverse-world/">Reverse World</a>, as seen in the video above. Most importantly, the "tech throws whenever you want, don't even worry about it" glitch has been corrected, much to the dismay of Wesker haters everywhere. <p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/19/latest-umvc3-patch-live-includes-heroes-and-heralds-mode-and-va/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Latest UMvC3 patch live, includes Heroes and Heralds mode and various fixes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/19/latest-umvc3-patch-live-includes-heroes-and-heralds-mode-and-va/">Latest UMvC3 patch live, includes Heroes and Heralds mode and various fixes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Dec 2011 21:00:00 EST. Developer Gazillion and Marvel have been showing off some superheroes for the coming MMO <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Marvel-Universe-Online/"><em>Marvel Universe Online</em></a>, and with the inclusion of Iron Man, we think it's about time you took a good look at these guys. So far, the <a href="http://mmmsociety.tumblr.com/">MMMSociety</a> has released renders of Deadpool, Wolverine, Cable, Captain America, Thor, Thing and Iron Man, all in fairly traditional spandex and ironclad garb. Iron Man, for example, looks a bit like Robert Downey Jr. under that sleek armor design -- trust us, we would know that rear end anywhere.<br />

Just like any relationship, the one between player and game can grow stale after a while. Eventually the fire dies down, even with a title as good looking and engaging as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, and a little extra something may be required to bring back that spark. As it turns out, the key to reigniting that passion is, just like any relationship, <em>costumes</em>.<br />
<br />
Separated into (loosely) themed packs of 4 to 5 characters, <em>UMvC3</em>'s Costume DLC will be gradually released between November 22 and February 21 at $4.00 (320 MSP) a pop. A "Value Pack" containing all 48 outfits will drop on March 6 at $20.00 (1,600 MSP) for the extremely patient fighters out there; everyone else should peep the gallery below, and hop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/19/all-umvc3-costume-dlc-priced-and-dated/#continued">past the break</a> for a complete character/pack configuration breakdown.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/">Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (Costume DLC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/#4624542"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/akumadlcpsdjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/#4624543"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/amaterasudlcpsdjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/#4624544"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/arthurdlcpsdjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/#4624545"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/c.viperdlcpsdjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-dlc-0/#4624546"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/captainamericadlcpsdjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/19/all-umvc3-costume-dlc-priced-and-dated/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>All UMvC3 costume DLC priced and dated</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/19/all-umvc3-costume-dlc-priced-and-dated/">All UMvC3 costume DLC priced and dated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Nov 2011 13:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> may be out in less than 48 hours, but that doesn't mean you can't cancel your existing pre-order and re-pre-order somewhere else in order to snag one of the exclusive costume packs Capcom detailed on Capcom Unity last Friday.<br />
<br />
People willing to pre-order from Gamestop will receive the Femme Fatale pack, which provides protective and/or provocative outfits for Morrigan, Chun Li, Storm and X-23. Amazon pre-orders grant the New Age of Heroes pack, which reskins Strider, Sentinel and Doctor Doom in their classic garb, while transforming Akuma into <em>Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter</em>'s Cyber Akuma.<br />
<br />
Best Buy patrons will receive the Villains pack, which includes an Elvis MODOK, as well as less confusing alternates for Wesker, C. Viper and Super Skrull. Capcom also announced two new skins for vanilla <em>MvC3</em>'s DLC characters Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorrath, which will be automatically included with new purchases, as well as made available to those who purchased the characters in <em>MvC3</em>.<br />
<br />
Jump <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/13/umvc3-pre-order-costumes-include-cyber-akuma-casual-friday-morr/#continued">past the break</a> for galleries of each costume pack, and remember to choose wisely. No pre-order bonus is worth buying multiple copies of a game, no matter how unbuttoned Morrigan's shirt is.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/13/umvc3-pre-order-costumes-include-cyber-akuma-casual-friday-morr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>UMvC3 pre-order costumes include Cyber Akuma, Casual Friday Morrigan and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/13/umvc3-pre-order-costumes-include-cyber-akuma-casual-friday-morr/">UMvC3 pre-order costumes include Cyber Akuma, Casual Friday Morrigan and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 13 Nov 2011 16:30:00 EST. Hold <em>all</em> of your horses, padre, and don't get too excited just yet. See that picture up there? That sparkling, dynamically lit and exceedingly impressive Mega Man, torn from the pages of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> guide and punctuated by an emboldened "DLC" classification? So do we, and it's a <em>lie</em>.<br />
<br />
The blue bomber's <em>Mega Man X</em> variant won't be joining his <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_(Mega_Man)">sword-wielding comrade</a> in battle, but rather will be providing said comrade with a fancy new outfit. That's right, that's <em>costume DLC</em> for Zero, and that sound you hear is the noise made by a hundred thousand simultaneously shattered hopes and dreams.<br />
<br />
No word yet on availability or pricing, or whether this means more deceptive DLC costumes await the game's fighters down the line. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to clean up the remnants of our rage-torn office.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/12/not-how-it-looks-theater-presents-mega-man-x-isnt-in-umvc3/">Not How It Looks Theater presents: Mega Man X (isn't) in UMvC3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/killian-marvel-licensing-responsible-for-umvc3-timing/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/umvc111.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></center>
Capcom fighting ambassador Seth Killian offered an explanation we hadn't considered for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's</em></a> seemingly early release (just nine months after <em>MvC3</em>): Marvel licensing constraints.<br />
<br />
"We have the license for this specific game, but other companies outside of Capcom have licenses for other Marvel games that impinge," he told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-01-why-umvc3-is-coming-out-only-9-months-after-mvc3">Eurogamer</a>. "So we have to find specific times where we're able to release products. It's on the Capcom side and on the Marvel side." He added that "I don't ask anybody to feel sympathetic about that."<br />
<br />
As for why the game is a standalone product on a separate disc, rather than DLC, Killian cited the slow adoption of DLC in Japan. "Capcom obviously has strong roots in the disc based tradition," he said. "That's the way most games are sold in Japan, so this is the way to approach it naturally. Clearly they're active in a global market, but are putting their toes in the water of shifting tastes for consumers in other places. Having just an all DLC release would be considered a strange move in Japan. Having an all DLC release would be odd."<br />
<br />
Taking a game about a lawyer fighting a sentient space raccoon, and then letting you download it. <em>That</em> would be odd.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/killian-marvel-licensing-responsible-for-umvc3-timing/">Killian: Marvel licensing responsible for UMvC3 timing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 13:32:00 EST. No doubt, most (if not all) of you are intimately familiar with Frank West and his impressive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising">photojournalist/zombie murderer resume</a>. Not only has he fought for his very life against imesurable odds, but he's also fought for Capcom against Japan's historic anime alumni in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsunoko_vs._Capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars</em></a>. His survival instinct is apparently up to snuff, and as such he'll be fighting alongside Ryu and the others in next month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>.<br />
<br />
You may not, however, be as familiar with the latest addition to Marvel's cast of characters: Rocket Raccoon. As an anthropomorphic space-jet fighter pilot and military strategist, Rocket predates <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fox_(video_game)">similar ilk</a> by 17 years, originating in the mid 70s and eventually becoming a member of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_(2008_team)">Guardians of the Galaxy</a>.<br />
<br />
Ironically enough, both characters feel reminiscent of <em>MvC2</em>'s Jill Valentine; namely, Frank's ability to summon zombies and Rocket's zoning traps. Check out Frank's introduction trailer above and Rocket's after the break, followed by two enlightening match videos featuring the new fighters.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/">Ulimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (10/31/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571157"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571158"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/meet-frank-west-and-rocket-raccoon-umvc3s-latest-fighters/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Meet Frank West and Rocket Raccoon, UMvC3's latest fighters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/meet-frank-west-and-rocket-raccoon-umvc3s-latest-fighters/">Meet Frank West and Rocket Raccoon, UMvC3's latest fighters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 02:30:00 EST. Last weekend we took a look at the changes coming to Marvel's fighters in November's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, and now it's time to scrutinize the nerfs and buffs being administered to Capcom's side of the isle.<br />
<br />
Jump past the break for the incredibly "inside baseball" list of adjustments and start planning your strategies accordingly. There's plenty of alterations being thrown around, but MvC3's tiers have been so well defined up until now, we doubt we'll see any fewer C. Vipers in tournament finals, <em>especially</em> now that she has an "Optic Laser," whatever that may be.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-character-changes-part-two-capcom/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character changes, part two: Capcom characters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-character-changes-part-two-capcom/">Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character changes, part two: Capcom characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Oct 2011 10:30:00 EST. Capcom's time-honored tradition of updating its existing fighters proudly marches on, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>'s November 15 release draws ever closer, filling the super meters in our hearts with a palpable anticipation for punches.<br />
<br />
As with any Capcom fighter update, the changes being made to existing characters are just as important as the new characters being introduced, and any fighter worth their salt knows how imperative it is to be prepared for those changes ahead of time. Lucky for you, we've posted <em>UMvC3</em>'s massive Marvel characters change log <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-character-change-log-logs-charact/#continued">after the break</a>, so you can start making adjustments to your match-up strategies accordingly.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/22/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-change-log-for-marvel-characters/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom releases Ultimate MvC3 change log for Marvel characters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/22/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-change-log-for-marvel-characters/">Capcom releases Ultimate MvC3 change log for Marvel characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Oct 2011 12:30:00 EST. As fast and frantic as <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> is, its opening cinematic is awfully ... <em>still</em>. If it's <em>too</em> still for you to handle, you can find a non-shaky-cam trailer of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/16/ultimate-mvc3-hits-us-with-free-dlc-heroes-vs-heralds-we-ask-f/">Heroes vs Heralds</a>" mode after the break. Our long-time hate for Capcom's fighting game bosses knows no bounds, but we're not above playing as one of the overpowered baddies ourselves to destroy friends. It looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a> will allow us to do just that, with Capcom strategy manager Seth Killian today revealing during New York Comic Con that Galactus will become playable in the upcoming Ultimate version of <em>MvC3</em>.<br />
<br />
Rather than becoming a player in the main roster, Galactus will apparently be getting "his own little mode" in <em>UMvC3</em>. Speaking to <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6335430/marvel-looking-for-avengers-game-partner">Gamespot</a>, Marvel has confirmed that the video game rights to "The Avengers" IP have reverted back to the company, enabling it to explore "potential publishing and licensing opportunities."<br />
<br />
Marvel's film division is on the verge of successfully concluding a multi-year plan to bring its greatest heroes, The Avengers, together in a blockbuster outing. Directed by Joss Whedon and scheduled to smash cinemas in May 2012, The Avengers is preceded and supported by films centered on each of the team's most prominent individuals. And alongside each of those films has been a tie-in game. Marvel's film strategy and culmination was mirrored by game publishers with Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America games -- right until <em>The Avengers</em> climax was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/30/the-avengers-the-video-game-leaks-cancelled-by-thq/">canceled</a> behind the scenes.<br />
<br />
Presumed to be in the hands of THQ's now-shuttered Australian studio (one of many victims in THQ's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/thq-fires-200-shifts-development-focus-away-from-kids-and-licen/">shift away</a> from licensed titles), <em>The Avengers</em> looked to be a first-person action game starring an irradiated scientist, a cocky technologist, a norse god, a temporally misplaced super soldier and some guy with a bow. Whether that blueprint will survive or transfer to a new publisher is a question that won't be answered fully until Marvel confirms a new licensor.<br />
<br />
With the movie due in 2012 and the marketing guys insisting on synergy, there's very little time to start over and develop a quality game -- so, probably plenty of time to develop an average licensed game.<br />
<br />
(With an apologetic nod to the decent <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/captain-america-super-soldier-review/">Captain America: Super Soldier</a></em>.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/the-avengers-game-in-limbo-as-marvel-mulls-over-licensing/">The Avengers game in limbo as Marvel mulls over licensing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Sep 2011 18:10:00 EST. Zen Studios is hosting a high-score Spider-Man tournament for XBLA's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pinball-fx-2"><em>Pinball FX 2</em></a>, running from today to August 12. The winners will receive goodies such as MS Points and sweet Marvel gear, all for playing some pinball. The prizes break down as follows:<br />
<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>1st Place: </strong>4,000 MS Points, a Marvel Digital Comics annual subscription, a <a href="http://www.welovefine.com/product.php?id_product=79">Spider-Man Bass Skyline tee shirt from Mighty Fine</a></li>
</ul>
<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>2nd and 3rd Place: </strong>1600 MS Points, a Marvel Digital Comics annual subscrption, a <a href="http://www.welovefine.com/product.php?id_product=79">Spider-Man Bass Skyline tee shirt from Mighty Fine</a></li>
</ul>
Zen Studios promises prizes for random players as well, so feel free to play some rounds without any pressure. The Spider-Man table is in the Marvel Pinball pack, which runs <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MARVEL-Pinball-Full/f5ace2f0-dc8f-4ed6-9d13-a85c18ffad34">800 MS Points</a> on XBLA, and it is required to play in the tournament. Otherwise it'd just have a name like "<a href="http://www.papa.org/papa14/index.php">Pinball Championships</a>," which are already happening this August, and wouldn't <em>that </em>be awkward at the Kinko's badge station.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/pinball-fx-2-wants-your-high-scores-in-xbla-spider-man-tournamen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pinball FX 2 wants your high scores in XBLA Spider-Man tournament</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/pinball-fx-2-wants-your-high-scores-in-xbla-spider-man-tournamen/">Pinball FX 2 wants your high scores in XBLA Spider-Man tournament</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Jul 2011 01:00:00 EST. Perhaps the variety of trailers released by Capcom last week featuring the various new characters coming to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> simply weren't enough for you. While we <em>can't</em> imagine how that's possible, we <em>can</em> show you four more.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-vignettes-showcase-firebrand-ghost/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 vignettes showcase Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Strider, and Hawkeye</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-vignettes-showcase-firebrand-ghost/">Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 vignettes showcase Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Strider, and Hawkeye</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 21:30:00 EST. Capcom held a panel this morning to talk about the recently-announced <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, and the company shared a few tidbits about how the game is changing for the new version. It took a total of nine minutes before Capcom lead producer Ryota Niitsuma acknowledged <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/ultimate-mvc3-producer-laments-roster-leak-speaks-to-lack-of-dl/">the character leaks</a>, joking that "there's a lot of cool stuff in this game, and I'm sure you know all about it."<br />
<br />
But while the leaked characters weren't talked about at the panel, Niitsuma did mention a few of the gameplay tweaks. The X-factor move in the game can now be used either on the ground or in the air, and he said that many players would "have to revamp your whole fighting strategy" on that one.<br />
<br />
Capcom also revealed that each character, including the older ones, will have two new costumes in the game, and they shared some of the special pre-order bonus costumes for the game. Above, you can see the Best Buy bonuses (including "Graceland Modok" -- "nobody here said Elvis," the panelists joked), and the rest are after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/23/capcom-talks-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-leaks-and-new-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom talks Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 leaks and new features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/23/capcom-talks-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-leaks-and-new-features/">Capcom talks Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 leaks and new features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. Only one person has the ability to truly control the raw energies of super-powered heroes: the artist tasked with drawing them. THQ has announced that it will kind of give gamers that level of control with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-super-hero-squad-comic-combat"><em>Marvel Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat</em></a>, which uses the uDraw GameTablet (on PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii) to "direct attacks, wield weapons and build barricades" as Captain America, Iron Man and the series' other licensed protagonists. You can get all <em>artsy</em> when <em>Comic Combat</em> drops November 15.<br />
<br />
The Super Hero Squad franchise is also visiting the 3DS -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-super-hero-squad-the-infinity-gauntlet"><em>The Infinity Gauntlet</em></a>, which was announced for most other platforms last July, will arrive on the stereoscopic handheld October 11. That's a pretty good fit, since the 3DS is pretty much a uDraw GameTablet with two screens on it, if you really think about it. No, don't think about it. It doesn't make any sense.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/marvel-super-hero-squad-coming-to-udraw-3ds/">Marvel Super Hero Squad coming to uDraw, 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 17:30:00 EST. Beyond the trickle of post-launch downloadable content for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a>, Capcom offered little in way of support for the long-awaited Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 fighter. And according to producer Ryota Niitsuma, that was out of his team's hands. "After the release of <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," he claimed in a San Diego Comic Con <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/sdcc-interview-niitsuma-on-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-206630.phtml">interview</a>.<br />
<br />
According to Niitsuma, the disastrous events that occurred in Japan not long after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/marvel-vs-capcom-3-launches-on-february-15-2011/">the release of <em>MvC3</em></a> "threw off our whole development schedule." Eventually, a decision was made to release that content on a disc, along with tweaks to the gameplay, a new spectator mode, and other new playable content. Niitsuma characterized the content as "about half and half" between the originally planned DLC and newly developed content for <em>UMvC3</em>.<br />
<br />
Speaking to the subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/20/entire-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-character-roster-leaks-phoeni/">leak of the entire roster</a> for the upcoming Marvel vs Capcom title, Niitsuma reluctantly accepted the situation. "It's a shame it got out, but that list, those names -- those are the characters we are adding to the game. But this is only a list of characters," he noted. "I think for the fans of our fighting games, that's where the real fun is -- seeing those characters move and act." As for when we'll see that? "Closer to the release date," he said. Unless it leaks out earlier, of course.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/ultimate-mvc3-producer-laments-roster-leak-speaks-to-lack-of-dl/">Ultimate MvC3 producer laments roster leak, speaks to lack of DLC for MvC3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bill-roper">Bill Roper's</a> cultivated an impressive resume during his tenure with the gaming industry, including executive positions with Blizzard North, Flagship Studios and Cryptic Studios. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/bill-roper-leaves-cryptic-studios/">He left</a> the latter developer -- his last place of employment -- last August, and today <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/36018/Blizzard_Vet_Bill_Roper_Joins_Disney_Interactive_Media_Group.php">revealed his new home</a>: The Disney Interactive Media Group, where he'll work as the vice president of the Marvel franchise.<br />
<br />
Disney General Manager of Games Alex Seropian said, "With 17 years of experience in the worldwide gaming industry, we are confident that Bill has the creative vision necessary to help guide the next wave of development and product for DIMG's Marvel Games." We too are confident in Roper's abilities. And, considering his legacy, we can't wait to see how much <em>dope loot</em> he can squeeze into the next Spider-Man title.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/ex-cryptic-cco-bill-roper-joins-disney-interactive-media-group/">Ex-Cryptic CCO Bill Roper joins Disney Interactive Media Group</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 12:10:00 EST. Remember that slow, meticulous character reveal we predicted for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>? Uh ... <em>never mind</em>. It appears that artwork of all twelve of the new characters has been revealed. The images were pulled by Joystiq from Capcom's own servers (<a href="http://static.capcom.com/character_api/umvc3/profile/phoenix-wright.png">example</a>) after they started leaking in <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=437950&amp;page=21">forums</a>. Unless this is an elaborate hoax on Capcom's part, the characters would seem to be legit. The new roster includes:<br />
<br />
Capcom
<ul>
	<li>
		Strider</li>
	<li>
		Firebrand</li>
	<li>
		Vergil</li>
	<li>
		Frank West</li>
	<li>
		Phoenix Wright</li>
	<li>
		Nemesis</li>
</ul>
Marvel:
<ul>
	<li>
		Ghost Rider</li>
	<li>
		Dr Strange</li>
	<li>
		Nova</li>
	<li>
		Rocket Raccoon</li>
	<li>
		Hawkeye</li>
	<li>
		Iron Fist</li>
</ul>
We know what you're thinking, because we're wondering the same thing: How is Capcom going to work these guys into <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>'s intricate story?<br />

Clinging to walls? Shooting energy beams out of your eyes? The ability to eat all forms of matter? Boring. Anybody can do that stuff. The important question, of course, is "How did you look while you were doing it?"<br />
<br />
Knowing this, Activision is offering some fancy duds to those who pre-order <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spider-man-edge-of-time"><em>Spider-Man: Edge of Time</em></a> or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/x-men-destiny">X-Men Destiny</a></em> at GameStop. If you want to see them, we've built the fine galleries below. If you want to know what they are ... well, let's just say the Surgeon General has rated that information "Too nerdy to put before the jump."<br />

The man responsible for the sale of Marvel Entertainment to Disney, as well as for producing a string of Hollywood blockbusters based on Marvel properties, is now a "special advisor" for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/angry-birds"><em>Angry Birds</em></a> creator Rovio. David Maisel left his successful position as the chairman of Marvel Studios after just two years on the job to work with Rovio on building "the company's entertainment strategy." He'll be helping the Finnish studio expand into "new areas in the entertainment business," and will also head up any future <em>Angry Birds</em> films as executive producer, in part reprising his role at Marvel Studios.<br />
<br />
"I'm very honored and excited to join Rovio ... and the franchise potential of <em>Angry Birds</em> give Rovio the most exciting prospects I have seen in the entertainment business since Marvel in 2003," Maisel overextends in the press release announcing his job appointment. "We welcome his experience and vision as we continue broadening our entertainment production scope at Rovio," CEO Mikael Hed adds, returning the back scratching.<br />

Corporate steam blowing aside, we can't help but wonder how Maisel can compare Rovio's one (admittedly <em>very, very popular</em>) property -- <em>Angry Birds</em> -- with Marvel's decades old <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Marvel_Universe_characters">stable of properties</a>, but then we're also not special advisors to Rovio.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/28/ex-marvel-studios-head-becomes-special-advisor-at-angry-birds/">Ex-Marvel Studios head becomes 'special advisor' at Angry Birds studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Jun 2011 13:30:00 EST. After being announced (and then unannounced) earlier this year, it looks like the curtain has been officially raised, as <a href="http://www.artasylum.com/blog/2011/06/marvel-vs-capcom-3-making-minimates-for-two-worlds/">Art Asylum</a> has posted a new interview on the upcoming lineup of figures. The article includes plenty of details on the figures and, more importantly, lots of new pictures. We're particularly fond of M. Bison.<br />
<br />
The one we're really waiting to see is M.O.D.O.K., who was apparently pretty hard to fit into the traditional Minimates mold. Unfortunately, he's not coming out until wave 3. Wave 1 arrives this <a href="http://www.artasylum.com/blog/2011/06/4074/">October</a>. Head over to Art Asylum for more images and info.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> As a few commenters pointed out, Bison is actually from a <em>Street Fighter 2</em> line of Minimates (especially considering he's not <em>in Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>.) The new line will feature an updated Chun-li figure, however.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/marvel-vs-capcom-3-minimates-articulated-with-new-images/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Minimates articulated with new images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 01:15:00 EST. Zen Studios will add a <em>Fantastic Four</em> table to PSN's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-pinball">Marvel Pinball</a></em> and XBLA's <em>Pinball FX 2</em> on May 17 and 18, respectively. Why <em>Fantastic Four?</em> To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of <em>Fantastic Four</em> #1, of course. No price was announced for the ball-out superhero surface, but it should be $3 (240 MSP) or under. We've contacted Zen Studios for confirmation.<br />
<br />
The table features 3D models of Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, Thing and Human Torch, along with the type of intricate details fans of the series have come to expect. Check out the video after the break for some flippin' action.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-pinball-fantastic-four/">Marvel Pinball (Fantastic Four)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-pinball-fantastic-four/#4103037"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/fantasticfourscreenshotwithlogos016_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-pinball-fantastic-four/#4103039"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/mvpfantasticfour01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-pinball-fantastic-four/#4103040"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/mvpfantasticfour07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-pinball-fantastic-four/#4103041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/mvpfantasticfour10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/fantastic-four-table-for-marvel-pinball-and-pinball-fx-2-in-may/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fantastic Four table for Marvel Pinball and Pinball FX 2 in May</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/fantastic-four-table-for-marvel-pinball-and-pinball-fx-2-in-may/">Fantastic Four table for Marvel Pinball and Pinball FX 2 in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 23:00:00 EST. If you're a comics fan, you're probably well acquainted with monthly fees, as you have to shell out for a pile of books in order to keep up with continuity. However, that <em>won't</em> be the case for Gazillion's upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/marvel-universe"><em>Marvel Universe</em></a> MMO. During a press conference yesterday, Marvel announced that the MMO will be free to play.<br />
<br />
It may also have a story worth following. Marvel also revealed that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Michael_Bendis">Brian Michael Bendis</a>, creator of the "Ultimate" universe, has signed on as writer. According to a liveblog of the event, Bendis said he planned to make the game "a grand, epic tour, a reimagining of some of the biggest events in Marvel history." Like that time they all got into a fight with Capcom characters? That would make a really cool game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/marvel-universe-mmo-written-by-bendis-will-be-free-to-play/">Marvel Universe MMO written by Bendis, will be free to play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 16:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/spider-man-edge-of-time/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/spideyedge.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
After doing a fine job with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spider-man-shattered-dimensions"><em>Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions</em></a>, developer Beenox is taking another swing (see what we did there?) at our favorite webhead in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spider-man-edge-of-time">Spider-Man: Edge of Time</a></em>, due out this fall on unannounced platforms.<br />
<br />
In <em>Edge of Time</em>, Spider-Man classic and Spider-Man 2099 will work together to avoid personal catastrophe (read: Peter Parker's demise) in a story crafted by 2099 co-creator Peter David. The game's hook is that the actions of one Spider-Man will alter the timeline of the other.<br />
<br />
This, of course, is the moment where we point out that Marvel 2099 is technically the future of Earth-928 and not Earth-616, where Spider-Man classic exists. Therefore, the actions of one wouldn't impact the other, so we're hoping some sort of interdimensional machinations will be involved as well.<br />
<br />
Obviously.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/spider-man-edge-of-time/">Spider-Man: Edge of Time tells the tale of two Spideys this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 09:45:00 EST. Based on this latest batch of screenshots from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thor-the-video-game"><em>Thor</em></a> game, we're beginning to wonder if the God of Thunder has been hit with some sort of Norse shrink ray. Like, there couldn't be that many gigantic monsters, could there? Aimi Yoshida is an all-new mutant created for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/x-men-destiny"><em>X-Men Destiny</em></a> by developer Silicon Knights. According to her bio, she "feels only the bitterness and anger of abandonment." She also feels the need to dress like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9iIKn1Bl6c">Gogo Yubari</a> from <em>Kill Bill</em>. As promised, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spider-man-shattered-dimensions"><em>Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions</em></a> dev Beenox will be handling the next entry in the Spidey franchise. Moreover, the as-yet-unnamed title will make an appearance at this year's WonderCon, according to <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/wc/wc11_prog_sat.php">the event's website</a>. A listing for the Activision/Spider-Man panel, to be held Saturday, April 2, details a presentation that will involve both "post-launch reactions" to <em>Shattered Dimensions</em> and "exclusive details, screenshots and videos of the next Spider-Man game."<br />
<br />
For all you hardcore Peter Parker fans in the crowd, <em>Spider-Man 2099</em> co-creator Peter David and voiceover artist Josh Keaton will both join Beenox devs on the panel, along with Marvel veep of game production TQ Jefferson. Given the relative awkwardness of Keaton's placement on the panel, we're guessing he'll once again be voicing Spidey in the forthcoming game.<br />
<br />
Though details are guaranteed to show up at the panel, we'd also keep an eye on gaming magazines to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/16/spider-man-shattered-dimensions-teased-by-gamepro/">unceremoniously announce it by name</a> with a cursory text mention on the cover. With the <em>Captain America</em> film hitting theaters on July 22, it makes a lot of sense that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/thor-and-captain-america-to-avenge-in-3d-on-ps3-xbox-and-of-c/">game</a> will arrive around the same time -- July 19, actually, as revealed this morning by Sega. Alongside the new release date, Sega handed over several new screens of the Captain in action on Xbox 360/PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, and Wii.<br />
<br />
There's also the totally sweet shot of Cap hanging out in an airplane -- <em>straight chillin</em>' -- as seen above. You just know that any second he's gonna <em>totally </em>flip out. Aaaaany second now ...<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/">Captain America: Super Soldier (360/PS3/Wii/DS, 3/21/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/#3987055"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/22462bberry-image40bretz_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/#3987056"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/22463cap-feb-360-02bretz2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/#3987057"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/22464cap-feb-360-15bretz_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/#3987059"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/22465cap-feb-360-52bretz_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/captain-america-super-soldier-3-21-11/#3987116"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/22707capds000-1300726524_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/captain-america-super-soldier-taking-aim-at-july-release-date/">Captain America: Super Soldier taking aim at July release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 15:55:00 EST. Potentially good news for fans of tiny versions of things they like: A new line of Minimates figures based on <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> was revealed by <a href="http://www.minimateheadquarters.com/?p=1346">Minimates HQ</a> earlier today. The site has since pulled the announcement at the request of Diamond Select Toys, though not before the news and images (like the ones above) were <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=Marvel+vs.+Capcom+3+Minimates">firmly planted on the internet</a>.<br />
<br />
Figures appear to run the gamut from Arthur to X-23. Even as their creators have apparently backtracked on the official announcement, the <em>MvC3</em> Minimates appear to be legit (they even showed up on Capcom Unity, <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.capcom-unity.com%2Fjgonzo%2Fblog%2F2011%2F02%2F14%2Fmarvel_vs._capcom_3_minimates_announced">briefly</a>) -- and they're definitely marketable. Seriously, we've wanted a pocket-sized Arthur since, like, 1989.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-minimates/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of tiny action figures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 19:00:00 EST. Montague vs. Capulet. Death Row vs. Bad Boy. Sparta vs. Athens. Yankees vs. Red Sox. Hamilton vs. Burr. Sure, these guys have some bad blood. I'd even go so far as to say they've got <em>beef</em>. But do any of them have the ability to manipulate metal or flex a bionic arm? How about healing powers and adamantium claws? Are any of them gods of thunder? I thought not. Advantage <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The excuse for bringing all these characters into the same place basically boils down to this: Dr. Doom, of Marvel fame, and Wesker, from the <em>Resident Evil</em> games, try to meld their respective universes in order to take them both over at once. Unfortunately, by doing so, they made it easier for the rampaging planet eater Galactus to chow down on two worlds. It's all fairly inconsequential to the gameplay but, hey, there needs to be at least some reason for bringing all these folks together for a third time. And to be honest, when a game is as much fun as <em>MvC3</em>, I don't really care what that reason is.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/">Marvel vs Capcom European pre-order T-shirts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778917"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/blockbuster_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Blockbuster" title="Blockbuster" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778918"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/game_thumbnail.jpg" alt="GAME" title="GAME" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778919"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/gamestop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="GameStop" title="GameStop" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778920"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/hmv_thumbnail.jpg" alt="HMV" title="HMV" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778921"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/indies_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Independent stores" title="Independent stores" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review: The premier in button-mashing mash-ups</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-review/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review: The premier in button-mashing mash-ups</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:01:00 EST. Marvel's Chris Baker has <a href="http://fans.marvel.com/marvel_interactive/blog/2011/02/09/marvel_vs._capcom_3:_the_final_9_marvel_alternates">done his final lap</a> through the various origins of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3">Marvel vs. Capcom 3's</a></em> alternate costumes for the superheroes in the game and, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/marvel-vs-capcom-3s-alternate-costumes-comic-book-origins-exp/">just like last time</a>, things get geeky fast. Good to see Marvel got <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapon_X">the <em>Days of Future Now</em></a> Deadpool in there, as well as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_2099">Doom 2099</a> and the <em>Secret Invasion</em> Super Skrull. Most players who choose the variants might not know where they come from, but you comic book geeks will.<br />
<br />
Of course, this last round of backstory also reveals that Marvel and Capcom didn't always have a lot of choices for some of the more obscure characters. Sometimes, they just bent things around as much as possible (witness Thor's continuity-breaking "inspired by" costume variants) and sometimes they just look to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZUMjoxfZA">the New York Knicks</a>.That's right -- the Mango Sentinel is back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/11/more-marvel-vs-capcom-3-alt-costumes-in-the-spotlight-includin/">More Marvel vs. Capcom 3 alt costumes in the spotlight, including the Mango Sentinel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Feb 2011 03:00:00 EST. Marvel has promoted T.Q. Jefferson to the position of VP of production for games, where he will oversee all development of titles based on the company's properties. From concept to launch, Jefferson will "<span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">play a strategic role in the development and product planning</span> for Marvel's slate of games," working closely with Marvel's partners -- <span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">including Activision, Capcom, Gazillion, SEGA, THQ and Zen Studios</span>. <br />
<br />
Jefferson, who has 14 years of experience in gaming at places including Activision, Pixar and Disney, is currently working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, which is slated to launch next month -- as well as the two film tie-ins Sega is handling: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/captain-america-super-soldier">Captain America: Super Soldier</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thor-the-video-game"><em>Thor: God of Thunder</em></a>. He will also oversee Gazillion's upcoming Marvel MMO, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-hero-squad-online"><em>Super Hero Squad Online</em></a>. Fans of the series will no doubt have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/marvel-vs-capcom-3-retail-listing-shows-akuma/">spotted Akuma</a> in a British retailer listing for February's big fighting game, and Taskmaster <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/27/rumor-marvel-vs-capcom-3-comic-art-reveals-galactus-and-taskma/">made an appearance</a> in panels from what was rumored to be a <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> tie-in comic book.<br />
<br />
Rather than being unlocked out of the gate, players must earn 2000 PP for Akuma and 8000 PP for Taskmaster -- <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-01-17-akuma-taskmaster-confirmed-for-mvc3">Eurogamer</a> describes earning 2000 PP as "roughly equivalent to a single playthrough of Arcade Mode," adding that Capcom believes "most players" will unlock all secret characters "within a couple of hours." It is believed that two more characters will be revealed before <em>MvC3</em> arrives <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/marvel-vs-capcom-3-launches-on-february-15-2011/">on February 15</a> -- for now, you can see videos of Taskmaster and Akuma just after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/17/marvel-vs-capcom-3-joined-by-akuma-and-taskmaster/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3 joined by Akuma and Taskmaster</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/17/marvel-vs-capcom-3-joined-by-akuma-and-taskmaster/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 joined by Akuma and Taskmaster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jan 2011 11:30:00 EST. Neither Capcom nor Marvel has yet to announce an official comic tie-in for forthcoming fighting game collaboration <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds">Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a></em>, but a posting on ComicArtFans.com indicates that just such a product is on the way. The images seemingly reveal both Galactus and Taskmaster (aka "that guy who looks like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeletor">Skeletor</a>") as appearing in the game -- we already had Taskmaster on our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/rumor-marvel-vs-capcom-3-roster-to-include-mega-man-frank-wes/">leaked list last month</a>, and it's possible that Galactus (the <em>planet eater</em>) is a boss character. <br />
<br />
The image gallery has since been removed, but Shoryuken has all the pertinent images hosted <a href="http://shoryuken.com/content/marvel-vs-capcom-3-comic-book-art-reveal-taskmaster-galactus-2941/">on its website</a>. <br />
<br />
Also, we know we're supposed to suspend disbelief with the whole superhero thing, but the idea of Chris Redfield challenging the Hulk with a shotgun seems even more comical than his tree-trunk biceps.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The post above has been altered to reflect the anonymity of the images origins. Though it has been reported that comic artist Kevin Sharpe created the images, it is not clear that he did any of the work referred to above.<br />
