The PS One Classics lineup is bolstered with <em>The Legend of Dragoon</em>, and moving up a generation to PlayStation 2 gets you the original <em>Max Payne</em>.<br /><br />Check the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/05/01/playstation-store-update-237/">PlayStation Blog</a> for a full list of new store items, if you please.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/psn-tuesday-awesomenauts-mortal-kombat/">PSN Tuesday: Awesomenauts, Mortal Kombat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2012 17:15:00 EST. Spurs game on ESPN last night, and it's chock full of all the Max Payne-y things you'd expect - slow motion bullets, slow motion jumping, slow motion ladies, etc.<br /><br />It's a little sad that the game is billed as "from the makers of <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>," considering that the original <em>Max Payne</em> predates both <em>GTA3</em> and the entire Red Dead franchise. Then again, a modern 18 year old gamer would only have been seven years old when the series originally debuted in 2001, so we can't really blame Rockstar for playing to its target demographic's familiarities. Kids these days with their <em>Macintosh computers</em> and their <em>Fiat 500s</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/21/heres-max-payne-3s-tv-commercial/">Here's Max Payne 3's TV commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Apr 2012 13:30:00 EST. You too can make such a migration: Rockstar is running a promotion granting one lucky individual quite the vacation, starting in NYC and eventually concluding in Brazil. And you won't even have to shoot anybody!<br /><br />If you're chosen, you'll get to play a pre-release build of <em>Max Payne 3</em> in New York, then fly down to Sao Paulo, where you'll get to stay in a swank hotel for a few days and attend the Sonar S&atilde;o Paulo music festival. And when you go home, you'll get a custom <em>Max Payne 3</em> Xbox 360 console, one year of Xbox Live Gold and 1,400 MS Points to spend.<br /><br />Interested parties can either <a href="https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/profile/signup.html">sign up for Rockstar's Social Club</a> and enter there, or you they can like Rockstar's <a href="http://www.facebook.com/rockstargames/app_117810421678717">Facebook page</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/12/max-payne-3-contest-promises-a-less-dangerous-trip-from-nyc-to-b/">Max Payne 3 contest promises a less dangerous trip from NYC to Brazil</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 21:00:00 EST. <em>"Hey rookie, got another post for ya."<br />
<br />
Chief Grant tossed a manilla file folder onto my desk, acrid cigar smoke pouring from his mouth as he walked by. His brightly colored suspenders contrasted his gruff, guttural disposition and worried brow. The haphazard mess of papers spilled out of the folder like blood into my hands, and the face of Max Payne filled my vision.<br />
<br />
"But Chief," I said. "Our readers have already seen this </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3">Max Payne 3 </a><em>trailer."<br />
<br />
Chief Grant stopped dead in his tracks, like a dead thing. He took the cigar from his mouth and looked at me with his cold, lifeless eyes.<br />
<br />
"Not like this," he said.<br />
<br />
As I sat back down at my desk, the evening's orange glow painted shadows through the blinds. In the distance, some other film noir stuff happened.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/24/max-payne-3-trailer-now-with-informative-pop-ups/">Max Payne 3 trailer, now with informative pop ups</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Sep 2011 22:30:00 EST. Whoa, news about two <em>Max Payne</em> games in one day? Will that ever happen again? Buried within a press release about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/max-payne-3-emerging-in-march-2012-multiplayer-included/"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>, Take-Two announced that the first <em>Max Payne</em> game is coming to mobile devices.<br />
<br />
You'll be able to see Max's squinty face in "full HD" wherever you go, with Rockstar Games Social Club features and, Take-Two says, support for wired controllers. Maybe now you'll have something new to play in your <a href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/e762/?pfm=homepage_Featured_3">iCade</a>, or your <a href="http://www.androidcentral.com/using-ps3-controller-motorola-xoom">Xoom</a>.<br />
<br />
That is, if those are indeed among the devices receiving this port. Take-Two didn't specify, and didn't mention a release date either. It's only appropriate for there to be an air of mystery around the noir-style <em>Max Payne</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/max-payne-1-going-mobile-in-full-hd/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 1 going mobile in 'full HD'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/max-payne-1-going-mobile-in-full-hd/">Max Payne 1 going mobile in 'full HD'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 14:00:00 EST. New screens of the surprisingly real <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> bring us a variety of looks from Max's repertoire. Bald, tank-topped Max, as seen in his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/whoa-max-payne-is-a-total-slob/">2009 reveal</a>, makes an appearance, along with "classic" leather-jacket Max, Max in a Hawaiian shirt, a t-shirt, and a button-up shirt and tie.<br />

What a versatile fellow! At least, in terms of clothing. He's pretty much holding both arms straight out and shooting people 100 percent of the time, no matter how he's dressed.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/">Max Payne 3 (4/22/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/#4082203"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/maxpayne3-10-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/#4082202"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/maxpayne3-11-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/#4082201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/maxpayne3-12-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/#4082210"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/maxpayne3-3-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-4-22-11/#4082209"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/maxpayne3-4-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/max-payne-3-screens-bring-back-bald-max/">Max Payne 3 screens bring back bald Max</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 18:00:00 EST. Jack Schofield is quickly becoming our very favorite Kinect modder, largely because he keeps adding more games to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/09/kinect-hacks-gesture-based-modern-warfare-zelda-and-doom/">his catalog</a> of backwards-engineered, motion-supported classics. Check out his video to see how a Kinect and Wiimote can be used to make <em>Max Payne</em> <em>even radder</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/kinect-hacks-dive-into-max-payne/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kinect Hacks: Dive into Max Payne</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/kinect-hacks-dive-into-max-payne/">Kinect Hacks: Dive into Max Payne</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Jan 2011 17:10:00 EST. Haven't picked up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/episodes-from-liberty-city"><em>Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City</em></a>? For about the same price as the retail console version of the <em>GTA IV</em> expansion packs, you can get every nearly single Rockstar game in one massive, discounted bundle. The "Rockstar Collection" includes 13 titles, including <em>Bully: Scholarship Edition</em>, <em>Manhunt</em>, <em>Max Payne</em>, <em>Midnight Club 2</em>, and every <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> for PC -- including <em>The Lost and the Damned</em> and <em>The Ballad of Gay Tony</em>.<br />
<br />
This week, the bundle will be discounted to a mere $42.49, a considerable savings over the suggested $169.90 value for all the games combined. Considering the bundle includes rather new content, one can even consider this package ... a <em>steal</em>.<br />

As the week goes on, more and more current and former Rockstar Games employees have come forward to us (and <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/01/12/former-rockstar-games-nyc-staffer-confirms-rockstar-san-diego-statements/">other outlets</a>) with information corroborating the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/11/sources-rockstar-san-diego-not-working-on-more-midnight-club-ga/">repeated</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/sources-red-dead-redemption-development-in-trouble/">allegations</a> of substandard working conditions at the developer's various studios. Today, however, we received news from a former Rockstar Vancouver employee regarding the status of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/max-payne-3-delayed-to-late-2010/">late 2010</a>" title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3">Max Payne 3</a></em> -- a title currently in development at the Canadian dev house. <br />
<br />
According to our source (who, unsurprisingly, asked to be kept anonymous), "Virtually everything said in the original <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/RockstarSpouse/20100107/4032/Wives_of_Rockstar_San_Diego_employees_have_collected_themselves.php">'Rockstar wives' letter</a> and by current and former Rockstar San Diego employees in the comments applies to my experience at Rockstar Vancouver." The source also alleges an "August 2010" completion window for development of the game, though the source isn't optimistic that'll happen. "The game's story just went through another total re-write earlier this month (the third that I am aware of in the past two years) and that [means] the team would have to have all of the content done by April or May to make that August release date."<br />
<br />
Further claims about the studio range from an "enforced crunch mode through to the end of the project" that results in "14 - 16 hour work days, six or seven days a week" to a canceled two weeks of vacation over the past holidays. We've once again contacted Rockstar Games for comment and have yet to hear back as of publishing. If you are an employee of Rockstar Games and would like to tell us more about your experiences, we'd <a href="mailto:ben@joystiq.com?subject=Regarding Rockstar spouse">love to hear</a> what you have to say.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/source-max-payne-3-development-allegedly-also-suffering-from-mi/">Source: Max Payne 3 development allegedly also suffering from mismanagement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 16:45:00 EST. In a new financial earnings and projection <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=428172">report</a>, Take-Two has dished out news of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3's</em></a> release. The game's been pushed back -- we like to imagine in incredibly slow and dramatic fashion -- to the company's fiscal Q4 2010. In <em>real</em> time, that translates to a three-month period spanning August-October, 2010. The game was previously pegged for an unlikely Winter 2009 release. <br />
<br />
Based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/23/first-max-payne-3-screens-look-strangely-familiar/">what we've seen</a> of <em>Max Payne 3</em> so far, we'd say that bumping back its release is a good move. Max is in serious need of some <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGOO8ZhWFR4">Jazzercise</a> and a decent dry cleaner, so this extra time will hopefully get him into better shape to handle the countless waves of bad guys he'll be indiscriminately shooting in the face.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/max-payne-3-delayed-to-late-2010/">Max Payne 3 delayed until late 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 17:13:00 EST. A couple of weeks ago, our attention was turned to a demo reel produced by a commercial <a href="http://muhaha.com/">sound designer named "Bix,"</a> which, no, we imagine is <em>not</em> his Christian name. The reel included <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0vnwtwsXWc">a 30 second teaser trailer</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>, featuring slow-motion bullets, a mysterious masked woman, appropriately crisp sound design and a highly implausible release window of "Winter 2009." Thinking the video was just a fan project made to bolster an artistic portfolio, we thought little of it.<br />
<br />
However, the clip's recent disappearance from the aforementioned reel (and <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-407340.aspx">its sudden circulation</a>) has caused us to think otherwise. We're still not certain whether the teaser was commissioned by Rockstar, but we do know that it's <em>hot as the sun</em>, and waiting just behind the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/supposedly-leaked-max-payne-3-teaser-is-rad-chronologically-uns/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Supposedly leaked Max Payne 3 teaser is rad, chronologically unsound</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/supposedly-leaked-max-payne-3-teaser-is-rad-chronologically-uns/">Supposedly leaked Max Payne 3 teaser is rad, chronologically unsound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 21:59:00 EST. A lot of fans of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne"><em>Max Payne</em></a> series have been hesitant to get completely excited about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3">Rockstar's third installment</a> in the series, largely due to the unfamiliar setting of S&atilde;o Paulo, Brazil, and the obvious aesthetic changes undergone by the game's titular anti-hero. Perhaps their fears will be abated by <a href="http://gameinformer.com/games/max_payne_3/b/xbox360/archive/2009/10/01/preview.aspx">a recent Game Informer preview</a> of the title, which analyzes the big differences between the first two installments and the boldly redesigned threequel.<em><br />
<br />
</em> The preview mentions a few intriguing gameplay additions, including improved Bullet Time physics (thanks largely to the implementation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/get-a-physics-lesson-with-this-euphoria-tech-demo/">the Euphoria engine</a>), and a cover system, which the game's devs promised would be optional. The article also explains the aforementioned aesthetic shifts. For instance, we learned that this older version of Max Payne <em>isn't actually</em> chubby. His beefier frame can be attributed to muscle, not obesity. That makes sense -- a diet consisting solely of whiskey and painkillers probably isn't loaded with saturated fats.<br />

During his speech at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gdc-europe-2009">GDC Europe</a> - exhaustively titled "From Max Payne to Alan Wake: Creating Intellectual Properties the Remedy Way" (air!) - Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne laid out the seven pillars the company uses for its games:<br />
<br />
1. Strong Lead Character -- Main character is iconic and easy to get on the surface. Things went wrong when Myllyrinne wanted the <em>Max Payne</em> sequel to simply be called <em>The Fall of Max Payne</em>. The compromised title admittedly didn't work out in the sales department. He didn't mention anything about Rockstar's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3">reimagined <em>Max Payne</em></a> in the latest sequel.<br />
<br />
2. Mainstream approachability -- Avoiding niche and clich&eacute; settings (for video games that would mean no WWII setting, dragons, sci-fi, etc.). Having gameplay mechanics that are approachable (low barrier of entry to start playing the game).<br />
<br />
3. Cinematic -- Taking lessons learned from movies. The presentation of <em>Max Payne</em> makes this pretty obvious. With <em>Alan Wake</em> the company is focusing on the trinity of the flashlight, Alan himself (see: pillar one), and the gun. This also lead Myllyrinne to an anecdote about presentation, saying "It's not what things are, it's what the audience thinks things are." He mentioned the Ingram gun was made bigger in <em>Max Payne</em> because people expect that gun to be larger than it actually is in real life.<br />

<div align="left">Oh wow, Nathan Drake has <em>really </em>let himself go since the original <em>Uncharted</em>. What's that? Oh, sorry, this is actually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>. So anyway, Rockstar has loosed the first screens of the latest game in its gritty, film noir inspired action series. <strike>Bruce Willis</strike> Max obviously got wrong directions from Google Maps and has ended up in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-2">Uncharted 2</a> </em>-- or is it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>? No, it really is the next <em>Max Payne</em>. Can't say it's really the look we were expecting. How about you?<br />

We've already seen the new, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/whoa-max-payne-is-a-total-slob/">grizzled face of Max Payne</a> in upcoming sequel <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>, and found out a few <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/max-payne-3-details-from-game-informer-hit-the-web/">details on the game</a> from Game Informer's preview of the title. More news coming out of July's GI today (via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/rockstar-using-new-payne-voice-actor">Eurogamer</a>) says that the game's titular character will lose the first two games' voice actor, James McCaffrey, and be replaced by, well, we're not quite sure yet.<br />
<br />
"We're good at casting," Jeronimo Barrera of the game's developer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rockstar">Rockstar Games</a>, points out. "All the <em>Max Payne</em> themes will remain intact - manipulation, betrayal, and the stuff that really made <em>Max Payne</em>," art director Rob Nelson backs the decision up with. And so it seems that, while the various themes may stay intact, the main character's look and sound have absolutely changed. Here's hoping Rockstar doesn't change the title to "<em>Minimum Pleasure</em>!"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/max-payne-3-gets-different-older-voice-actor/">Max Payne 3 gets different, older voice actor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 19:45:00 EST. Leaving the gritty film noir New York City of <em>Max Payne</em> and its sequel behind for a more tropical environment (though still a major city), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/whoa-max-payne-is-a-total-slob/">Max Payne's next game</a> takes him to S&atilde;o Paulo, Brazil. According to the <a href="http://forum.jogos.uol.com.br/A-historia-de-Max-Payne-3-podera-se-passar-em-Sao-Paulo-+Informacoes+Scans-grandes_t_271792?page=7#4865463">latest Game Informer scans</a> from the magazine's July issue cover story, the "disrepute" Mr. Payne has fallen into can be attributed to 12 "lost years" between the events of the first two <em>Paynes</em> and the upcoming game.<br />
<br />
Rockstar confirmed to Game Informer the addition of multiplayer as well, though -- big surprise! -- the company is keeping mum on too many details regarding whether it'll be co-op, versus, or the <em>always mysterious</em> "something else." For all the details, you'll want to check out the magazine when it hits your mailbox or local brick-and-mortar.<br />

So, when we first heard that Rockstar Vancouver's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Max-Payne-3/">Max Payne 3</a></em> would deliver a "more world-weary and cynical" Max, chronicling the "downward spiral of his life" in convenient gameplay format, we balked. "<em>More</em> cynical?" we responded. Of course we now realize that the fool-proof formula for creating a character "more cynical" requires taking already cynical Max Payne and removing all regard for hygiene and physical appearance.<br />
<br />
Alright, Rockstar. Fair enough. You win on the "more cynical" thing ... now let's see you work this into the gameplay. Maybe a showering minigame? Or escort missions to the dry cleaners. We're just riffin' here ... hey, where are you going?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/whoa-max-payne-is-a-total-slob/">Whoa! With <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3">Max Payne 3</a></em> announced, Take-Two's marketing machine better get moving -- we've noirly forgotten the whole seedy epic of insane mobsters and one glorious femme fatale. <em>Max Payne</em> and <em>Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne</em> are both available now on Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15) apiece -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/max-payne-sequel-appear-disappear-as-xbox-originals/">we're sure, this time</a>.<br />
<br />
Admittedly, the Xbox price is a bit steep and both games (arguably) play better on PC, so it might be better to wait until Steam has one of its weekend sales to pick up the titles for something like $5 (currently the games are <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=max+payne">$15 as a bundle</a> on Valve's digital distribution service). But, if Xbox is your only option, feel free to pick up Max, dearest of all our friends.<br />

Like the world's most somber noir ninjas, <em>Max Payne </em>and <em>Max Payne 2</em> briefly appeared as Xbox Originals before disappearing and leaving no evidence. ... No evidence, that is, except the screen grab we managed to snap before the games' untimely departure from <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/m/maxpayne2/0424-payneoriginal.htm">this (now non-working) link</a>.<br />

With a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/max-payne-3-coming-to-xbox-360-ps3-pc-this-winter/">sequel in the works</a> and <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/max-payne-and-sequel-get-xbox-360-listings-from-esrb/">an ESRB reveal</a>, Max's appearance makes perfect sense, we're just assuming someone jumped the gun with the announcement. When it comes to digital distribution on consoles, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/american-mcgee">American McGee</a> feels that the model "still has some evolving to do." The game designer -- whose credits include <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alice">Alice</a> </em>as well as <em>Doom </em>and <em>Quake -- </em>recently told <a href="http://www.geek.com/articles/games/interview-american-mcgee-talks-about-alice-grimm-and-game-development-in-shanghai-20090421/">Geek.com</a> that while his ambitious 24-episode experiment <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grimm">Grimm</a> </em>could be ported over to such platforms as Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, the process needs some work before that would happen.<br /><br />"Porting this sort of stuff is straightforward," claimed McGee, who added that "the biggest issue" sits with the platforms' content approval and distribution model. XBLA's certification process has long proved a cumbersome hurdle for developers, with McGee noting,"When a single title might take months to get through review and approval (take <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/braid"><em>Braid</em></a>, as an example), pushing 24 episodes through would translate to years of approval process."<br /><br />McGee is currently spinning his creative wheels on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/dice-2009-ea-announces-american-mcgees-alice-2/">recently announced</a> sequel to <em>Alice</em>, a property that's also been mentioned in movie circles <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/08/update-on-alice-and-max-payne-movies/">for some time</a>. The rights currently sit with producer Scott Faye, who was responsible for 2008's big screen take on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne"><em>Max Payne</em></a>, a film McGee lambasted, saying, "I wasn't able to sit through the entire thing ... I just couldn't connect to the film version." You, sir, were <em>not </em>alone.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3173892">1UP</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/american-mcgee-says-xbla-psn-need-to-evolve/">American McGee says XBLA, PSN need to evolve</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 10:00:00 EST. Before Max Payne turned into a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/max-payne-3">homeless-looking Vin Diesel</a> (pictured center, if you didn't guess) he was a "take no prisoner, nothing to lose" New York detective out for revenge. Now he looks like he takes no showers, <a href="http://www.instantrimshot.com">amirite</a>?<br /><br /><em>Max Payne</em> was a classic when it hit the PC and, although a lot was left to be desired when it was thrown onto consoles, the <em>Max Payne</em> series shined on the original Xbox among third-person shooters. Searching the original titles on the ESRB website revealed both titles had been rated for the Xbox 360 platform, a process that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/rumor-esrb-lists-more-xbox-originals/">ordinarily occurs </a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/xbox-originals-welcomes-guilty-gear-x2-reload-and-spyros-new-beg/">when a game is set to be released</a> as an Xbox Original. File this under: "Taken with a grain of salt," but it's possible Max's previous adventures will be added to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xbox-originals">Xbox 360's digital list</a> ... just in time for his latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/max-payne-3-coming-to-xbox-360-ps3-pc-this-winter/">pill-popping journey this winter</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=max-payne&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch">ESRB</a> -- <em>Max Payne</em><br /><a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=max-payne-2-the-fall-of-max-payne&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch">ESRB</a> -- <em>Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/max-payne-and-sequel-get-xbox-360-listings-from-esrb/">'Max Payne' &amp; sequel get Xbox 360 listings from ESRB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 13:30:00 EST. We're not quite sure how, considering the media blackout approach that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alan-wake"><em>Alan Wake</em></a> developer Remedy Entertainment has taken, but Norwegian gaming site <a href="http://www.gamer.no/article.php?articleId=764&amp;page=1">Gamer.no</a> sat down for dinner with head of franchise development for Remedy, Oskari H&auml;kkinen, this past week. New details were (unsurprisingly) scant, though we were able to glean a handful of facts from the interview. For instance, the game has, "a lot less action than <em>Max Payne</em>," the studio's last franchise which recently had a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/max-payne-3-coming-to-xbox-360-ps3-pc-this-winter/">current-gen update announced</a>. <br /><br />Aside from an emphasis on story, Mr. H&auml;kkinen says that weather effects will play a role in gameplay, specifically noting (by way of a strange sounding Google translation from Norwegian), "Everything in the game can be influenced by the weather. The obvious comparison here would be to last year's conceptually strong <em>Alone in the Dark</em> -- here's hoping Remedy can deliver on the lighting concept where <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/metareview-alone-in-the-dark-euro-edition/"><em>Alone in the Dark</em> more or less failed</a>. <br /><br />So, we officially still know little-to-nothing! For all the things Mark Wahlberg has killed in his life -- <em>The Happening</em>, The Funky Bunch, The Happening Funky Bunch (short-lived kids show, don't ask) -- he's brought at least one thing back to life: The <em>Max Payne</em> series. His non-hit film adaptation will be followed by <em>Max Payne 3</em>, which Rockstar said will arrive in winter of this year on the 360, PS3 and PC. <br />
<br />
Here's what Rockstar boss Sam Houser had to say about the sequel: "We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of <em>Max Payne 2</em> and witness his last chance for salvation."<br />
<br />
We think we speak for everyone when we ask this. ... <em>More</em> cynical? Really? Like, is he just stealing candy from babies and choking them to death with the wrappers?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/max-payne-3-coming-to-xbox-360-ps3-pc-this-winter/">Max Payne 3 coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PC this winter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 08:19:00 EST. The Max Payne movie is expected to slo-mo dive into retail January 20, 2009, reports <a href="http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Fox/Exclusive_HD_Content/Comic_Book_Movies/Disc_Announcements/Max_Payne_Coming_to_Blu-ray/2283">HighDefDigest</a>. The film, starring Mark Wahlberg, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/19/max-payne-movie-tops-box-office/">shot up the box office</a> when it first opened and eventually grossed $40 million in domestic ticket sales.<br /><br />The film will be available on Blu-ray and DVD. Max Payne has an emotionless face not even his own mother loves. 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller, whose studio produced the <em>Max Payne </em>games, has added his voice to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/metareview-max-payne-the-movie/">mass of critics</a> showing displeasure with the film adaptation. Speaking to <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/3d-realms-bewildered-max-payne-flick">Edge</a>, Miller said, "There are several fundamental story flaws ... in the film that have me shaking my head in bewilderment."<br /><br />We don't want to spoil any plot points for the three or four of you out there still wanting to see it, but Miller opines (negatively) about the portrayal of Payne, Beau Bridge's character B.B. and the drug lord Lupin, as well the structure of the narrative -- specifically, not showing that Payne is driven by the death of his family until well into the movie. "Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him," he said.<em> <br /><br /></em>Despite some (very valid) complaints, <em>Max Payne</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/19/max-payne-movie-tops-box-office/ ">topped</a> this past weekend's box office. Meanwhile, we're still trying to empathize with Miller while waiting for any snippets of <em>Duke Nukem Forever </em>to arise.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/3d-realms-finds-fundamental-flaws-in-payne-movie/">3D Realms finds 'fundamental flaws' in Payne movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 17:00:00 EST. Estimates for this week's box office have <em>Max Payne</em> (the movie) grossing $18 million during its opening weekend. <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE49I24E20081019">Reuters</a> reports that <strike>Marky Mark</strike> Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg's take on the (seemingly) constipated detective capped <em>Beverly Hills Chihuahua</em>, which slipped to the #2 spot with $11.2 million.<br /><br />It appears director John Moore's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/max-payne-noir-ly-gets-an-r-mpaa-settles-on-pg-13/">fight for the film's PG-13 rating</a> was well placed and he can laugh at all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/metareview-max-payne-the-movie/">critic's negative reviews</a> while he counts his money. Responsible for the fan favorite beat-em-up The Warriors, Rockstar Toronto would be taking the reigns from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Remedy/">Remedy</a> - who is currently working (we hope) on the Microsoft exclusive <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Alan-Wake/">Alan Wake</a></em>.<br />
<br />
Details on the rumor are scarce as a release date, let alone an announcement date, has been set. We wouldn't be surprised if this rumor were true considering the credits of the <em>Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne</em> (PC version only) proclaim, "<em>Max Payne's</em> journey through the night will continue." According the Rockstar <a href="http://www.rockstar.com/jobs">career page</a>, Rockstar Toronto is seeking experienced Xbox 360 and PS3 programmers, so we know something for this generation is planned. Take Two has yet to respond to Joystiq's request for a comment on the rumor.<br />

According to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=198194&amp;site=cvg">CVG</a>, <em>Xbox World 360</em> magazine (also owned by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/future-publishing">Future Publishing</a>) claims that <em>Max Payne 3</em> is being produced internally at Rockstar Toronto, the team behind <em>The Warriors</em>. This follows <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/quartermann-rockstar-making-max-payne-3-internally/">rumors by EGM</a> that the game is currently in development.<br />
<br />
Original <em>Max Payne</em> developer, Remedy, is currently <strike>picking its nose</strike> hard at work on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alan-wake">Alan Wake</a>. There's currently no timetable for when (or if) <em>Max Payne 3</em> will become official. We've contacted the folks at Take-Two in the hopes that they'll shed some light on the issue.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/rumorang-max-payne-3-wont-stay-dead/">Rumorang: Max Payne 3 won't stay dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 13:25:00 EST. Valve's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/steam">Steam</a> service has a seriously sweet <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Rockstar%20Games/">50% off sale this weekend</a> on its Rockstar games catalog. Both <em>Max Payne</em> titles are only $5 apiece ($7.49 for the set). Also, <em>Grand Theft Auto III</em> and <em>Vice City</em> are $5, while <em>San Andreas</em> is only $10. <br /><br />Steam is also offering its whole Rockstar collection (10 games in all) for $30. Not every game in there is a classic (lookin' at you, <em>Manhunt</em>), but the price is certainly right for all the hours worth of gameplay in the package.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/steams-50-off-weekend-on-rockstar-titles-many-games-only-5/">Steam's 50% off weekend on Rockstar titles, many games only $5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 20:00:00 EST. There has never been a movie based on a videogame that wasn't ... oh what's the word... non-<span style="font-style: italic;">ass</span>. Sure, game-based films are always entertaining but that's always for the wrong reasons. After watching the new <a href="http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Max Payne</span></a> trailer, titled <span style="font-style: italic;">Angels &amp; Demons</span>, we're starting to get hopeful for the flick. Taking the story from both <span style="font-style: italic;">Max Payne</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/max-payne-film-rated-pg-13-dvd-to-include-gamer-cut/">the film look promising</a> but like a short guy at a urinal, we're going to stay on our toes. Just in case.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/max-payne-trailer-seems-familiar-looks-awesome/">Max Payne trailer seems familiar, looks awesome</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 12:15:00 EST. Film director John Moore has won a hard fought battle with the Motion Picture Association of America to secure a PG-13 rating for the upcoming film, <em>Max Payne</em> -- based on the first and second games from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Remedy/">Remedy</a>.
<p>Originally rated R by the MPAA, the director of the violent video game adaptation starring <strike>Marky</strike> Mark Wahlberg called the MPAA out saying the film was as intense as other summer blockbusters. Moore <a href="http://www.dasgamer.com/max-payne-director-john-moore-just-a-tad-pissed-with-film-ratings-board/">compared the situation</a> to <em>The Dark Knight</em>, accusing the MPAA of <em>sucking up </em>to Warner Bros. when rating the comic adaptation, although Moore's choice of words were far more colorful. Of course the fight was based on dollars as Moore fought the R rating to secure a more financially viable PG-13 mark on the film which hits theatres on October 17.<br /></p>
<p>Fans of the game will be happy to know that the original uncut vision will eventually see life on DVD in what Moore calls, the "Gamer Dedicated Cut."</p>
<p>But don't expect sunshine and rainbows now that Max Payne landed a PG-13 rating. "The movie you see in the theaters will be an intense experience and the movie you see on DVD will be as intense an experience with some extra sensibilities for people who really adore the game," Moore told <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/max-payne-director-wins-battle-with-mpaa-gains-pg13-rating/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>.</p>

Director John Moore has confirmed that the film adaptation of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/max-payne"><em>Max Payne</em></a> will receive a PG-13 rating when it releases <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/see-first-posters-date-for-max-payne-flick/">Oct. 17</a>. Earlier this month, the director admitted he was in a fight with the Motion Picture Association of America after being told his movie "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/max-payne-director-upset-about-potential-r-rating/">feels R</a>."<br /><br />In an interview with <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/max-payne-director-wins-battle-with-mpaa-gains-pg13-rating/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>, Moore states that they merely "trimmed some frames," but didn't make any major changes. It's certainly amusing that a kid will be able to purchase a ticket to the movie adaptation of an <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp">M-rated game</a> s/he shouldn't be able to purchase in a store.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/max-payne-noir-ly-gets-an-r-mpaa-settles-on-pg-13/">Max Payne noir-ly gets an 'R,' MPAA settles on 'PG-13'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 19:30:00 EST. <em>Max Payne</em> director John Moore is knee-deep in the battle to get a PG-13 rating for his movie. In an interview with <a href="http://www.dasgamer.com/max-payne-director-john-moore-just-a-tad-pissed-with-film-ratings-board/">Das Gamer</a>, Moore really lets the expletives fly as he expresses his frustration with the MPAA ratings board, which allegedly told him his movie "feels R."<br /><br />Moore goes on to express that after seeing <em>The Dark Knight,</em> he felt good about <em>Payne</em> getting a PG-13 rating, but that was obviously not to be. The as-yet unrated <em>Max Payne</em> is still a month away from its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/see-first-posters-date-for-max-payne-flick/">Oct. 17 release</a>. On the bright side, if Moore has to make cuts to the film for those outrageously priced multiplexes, at least we'll get the unrated version on DVD in ... what, like three months? For the record, both <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/max-payne">Max Payne</a></em> games received Mature ratings (17+) from the ESRB.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/09/06/max-payne-movie-director-upset-with-possible-r-rating/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/max-payne-director-upset-about-potential-r-rating/">Max Payne director upset about potential R-rating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 17:50:00 EST. Of all of the people who make crap up on the internet, the enigmatic EGM rumormonger Quartermann seems to be the most accurate. This could be because Quartermann is just an amalgamation of different EGM editors and they hear some fairly juicy stuff in their day-to-day, like (for example) the rumor that the same <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Rockstar/">Rockstar</a> team that made <em>The Warriors</em> is busy toiling on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Max%20Payne%203">Max Payne 3</a></em>, presumably to cash in on the upcoming movie.<br />
<br />
With original devs Remedy hard at work on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Alan%20Wake">Alan Wake</a></em> and Rockstar Toronto not working on anything that we know of, it would seem to add up. In a more nebulous vein, Quartermann also says that Rockstar North, the team behind <em>GTA IV,</em> is hard at work on a PS3 exclusive. You'll know if this rumor is ever confirmed, however, when you see PS3 fanboys with an otherworldly glow and floating a few inches off the ground as a choir of angels sings in the background. Also, 360 fanboys will start throwing themselves off buildings, <em>Happening-</em>style.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/quartermann-rockstar-making-max-payne-3-internally/">Quartermann: Rockstar making Max Payne 3 internally</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 08:30:00 EST. Boogie Nights' well-endowed Dirk Diggler? Nope. The Departed's wise-cracking Dignam? Uh-uh. Maybe Planet of the Ap ... yeah, not that one obviously. We're just wondering what Mark "y Mark" Wahlberg's favorite role has been in his brief, but illustrious, career. Turns out we don't need to guess, big Mark is here to tell us. Comparing his "out of control" childhood and the accompanying life lessons it provided in the latest issue of Total Film magazine with Max Payne's inner demons, Wahlberg says, "Maybe that's why this character is my favourite role so far."<br /><br />Great, more data. So now you're tasked with weighing the various pieces of evidence at your disposal - <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/brace-yourself-mark-wahlberg-hasnt-played-max-payne/">he hasn't played the video game</a>; <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/see-first-posters-date-for-max-payne-flick/">the posters are great</a>; he loves the role; <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/beau-bridges-steps-out-of-stargate-onto-set-of-max-payne/">Beau Bridges is in it</a> - and making a snap judgment on a movie that isn't out yet. Quick! Does it suck? Is it going to be great? <em>Citizen Kane</em> or <em>Max Payne</em>, pick one!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/05/wahlberg-max-payne-is-my-favourite-role-so-far/">Wahlberg: Max Payne 'is my favourite role so far'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 19:00:00 EST. Sadly, we've gotten used to Hollywood muckety-mucks not actually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/">playing through the source material</a> when they're creating a movie based on a video game. But Mark Wahlberg's answer as to why he's avoided <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Max-Payne/">Max Payne</a></em> while playing the title role in the film is almost breathtaking as both evasion and backhanded insult.<br /><br />"I didn't want to play because I have an addictive personality," he told People Magazine. "I got more responsibility now than I've ever had with the kids and everything else. I don't want to be spending 14 hours on the videogame and then eight hours on the set. It's not going to work out."<br /><br />That's right, video game fans: With one wrong decision, Mark Wahlberg could have turned into you, and that's just <em>not a risk he's willing to take</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/brace-yourself-mark-wahlberg-hasnt-played-max-payne/">Brace yourself: Mark Wahlberg hasn't played Max Payne</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST.
