In addition to the Mega Man 9 and 10 DLC packs listed as discounted in this week's PSN update, you can also get ... Mega Man 9 and 10. And Mega Mans 1-3. Though they didn't show up on Sony's official list of updates, the entire Mega Man catalog on PS3 is on sale this week, half off.

The PSOne Imports versions of Mega Man 1, 2, and 3 (based on the Japanese PlayStation re-releases) are now available for $2.99 each. Mega Man 9 and 10 sell for $4.99 each this week, with DLC bundles an extra $2.99. Given Capcom's recent attitude toward Mega Man, we'd love to see what happened if these discounts led to a massive sales boost.
Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 on sale on PSN originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST. The marathon gaming team Wily Whompers was scheduled to race team Zeldathon this week, but when that showdown fell through, it decided to turn its marathon into a Viewer's Choice of sorts, asking Reddit readers to help choose which games to play for 72 hours straight. The group is also raising money for Child's Play as it streams the event -- so far it has only reached a few hundred dollars, but there's still time left to play ... and watch.

The team started with a run through Mega Man 10 and then the Reddit folks showed a cruel streak, sending the players through Super Meat Boy (we're told they beat all of the Light World levels and the warp zones), Super Ghouls N Ghosts and a few other unforgiving titles before the Whompers' current challenge as of this writing: Beating the forehead-slappingly difficult Demon's Souls. We can only wish them luck -- we're hard pressed to do anything for three days straight, much less play some of the hardest games around.
72-hour charity marathon lets internet pick games, gets really tough ones originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 30 Dec 2010 00:30:00 EST. Hey, here's that new desktop background you desperately wanted, even if you didn't know it yet. It's a gargantuan spread featuring over 200 characters from video game franchises, new and old, redrawn in the style of Mega Man. The image comes from pixel artist Chris Bringhurst, who released a compilation half this size last month. If he wanted to keep doubling it every few weeks or so, we would not hold it against him.
If you're anything like us, you're spending today avoiding the family that only comes around once or twice a year and hanging out with the ol' Xbox 360 (preferably with air conditioning as well). And though we have tons of games from the unusually busy first half of this year to still play catch up with, who are we to turn down this week's Xbox Live Arcade deals? Out of the four titles -- Mega Man 10, Scrap Metal, Death By Cube, and After Burner Climax -- all but one are half off, and even that one (Scrap Metal) is dropped in price by a third.

So what're you waiting for? It's not like you'd be silly enough to spend today actually outside. There's sun out there! Gross!
Xbox Live Deals of the Week: Mega Man 10, Scrap Metal, Death By Cube, and After Burner Climax originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 05 Jul 2010 19:14:00 EST. Microsoft has unfurled some of its plans for Xbox Live downloadable content for April, including new additions to Games on Demand and Deals of the Week, as well as the April 14th release of Final Fight: Double Impact.

On top of that, look for a half-priced The Maw on the week of April 12 and two add-ons for Mega Man 10 this week: Bass and Special Stage 1. For retro gaming junkies -- particularly those who love punishment -- it's pretty much a no-brainer. On the other hand, those that enjoy the simple mechanics but not the bone-crushing difficulty might have a harder time pulling the trigger. Thankfully, that choice is a little easier this time around than it was for Mega Man 9. Unlike its 2008 predecessor, Mega Man 10 possesses an Easy mode. While it may not take all the challenge out of the game, it definitely seems to lighten things up a bit.
Last week's sale continues, joined by even more discounts. If you wanted to buy something on PSN before -- particularly a Sega product -- and it was too expensive, you should check the list this week. Odds are, it's cheaper now!

In less bargain-oriented news, there's now a Mega Man 10 dynamic theme. Sony finally found the right weapon against which our resolve is weakest.
Click to Enker the gallery
Capcom will make downloadable Special Stages available in Mega Man 10 throughout April, for one dollar each. Should you make it to the end of each stage, you'll meet some musically-named bosses that will only be recognizable if you're a huge Mega Man nerd! The three stages feature the return of the Mega Man Killers, a group of bosses from the Game Boy Mega Man games.

Special Stage 1, available the week of April 5, features Enker from the first portable Mega Man game, a robot with the ability to absorb and reflect shots. Special Stage 2 features Mega Man III's Punk, who uses a large spinning weapon called the Screw Crusher, and Special Stage 3 includes Ballade from Mega Man IV, who uses the explosive Ballade Cracker. Both Special Stage 2 and 3 will be released the week of April 26.
The Blue Bomber -- who is inconveniently red in the pic above -- returns in the retro-centric Mega Man 10. Those who returned to Rapture with BioShock 2 can also pick up the "Sinclair Solutions Test Pack" for $5. There's also the fourth episode of The Tester -- how's that going? Oh yeah, for those with an interest in baseball (it's a game played with a stick), there's a demo for MLB 10: The Show. For those with a PSP, it's another solid comic book update. Check out the full PSN update after the break.
So, it would seem that DSiWare stepped aside to let WiiWare's single release shine this week. (That's probably not what really happened -- but it's a nice thought.)

In any case, Mega Man 10 is up on WiiWare in Japan today, and it's likely to overshadow anything else available this week, including the ancient Moon Cresta:

Capcom announced that the Rockman Complete Works PS1 port of Mega Man 3 will be added to the Japanese PlayStation Store in April. But some Japanese Mega Man 10 buyers will be able to get it early -- Capcom is giving away 50 copies to random PSN users who buy Mega Man 10 in the first two weeks of its availability.
Coinciding with that amazing Bit.Trip Runner trailer, its predecessor Bit.Trip Void is now avaiable on WiiWare, along with the authentically NES-style Mega Man 10! There's even a real retro game available on Virtual Console -- a pretty good one, at that.

The theme even extends to DSiWare, where you can get Dark Void Zero, a promotional game that outshines the game it was meant to promote. You can play it on the DSi XL, which was released in Europe today!
Even with staggered March release, Mega Man 10 still a Wii exclusive for another week. By that logic, it makes perfect sense that Capcom would hold a launch event this Sunday for the game at the Nintendo World Story in NYC -- almost a week after its WiiWare release.

If you're on the island of Manhattan this weekend, head on over to the Nintendo World Store near 30 Rock at 11AM for swag -- wait, not swag. You'll have to purchase a 2,000 point Wii card and Capcom will give you a T-shirt. The store will also give out posters with a purchase -- not of the game, of course, because that's only available online. So, let's get this straight: this post-launch event will sell a T-shirt with purchase of something that Mega Man fans would have needed last week. Do we have that right? Hey, at least the fans can use those points on the incoming DLC.
Bass, a sort of evil Mega Man character introduced in Mega Man 7 and playable in Mega Man & Bass, will be released as a DLC character for the Wii version of Mega Man 10 on April 5 for 200 Wii Points ($2), according to Nintendo's Mega Man 10 page. A special stage will be available the same day for 300 Points.

An "Endless Attack Mode" will follow for 300 points on April 26, along with two more special stages for 100 Points each. These DLC dates are likely to be different for the other versions of Mega Man 10, if the add-on content is planned for all releases, since the release dates for the actual game are different on other platforms. We're contacted Capcom to verify.
Capcom has confirmed a staggered March release for Mega Man's second, current-gen, 8-bit quest. Nintendo Wii fans will get behind the blue-bot's laser first with Mega Man 10 hitting the WiiWare service on March 1; PlayStation 3 fans can expect Mega Man's return on March 11; while Xbox 360 users will have to wait until March 31 to get their blast on.

Capcom also revealed images detailing Mega Man's upcoming arsenal, as well as images that show off the difference between the game's Normal and Easy modes. Spot images of all the new weapons and a glimpse at the game's challenge mode on the Unity blog.
If you managed to get all of the Achievements in Mega Man 9, then either your father's name is Jor-El or you're some kind of robotic boy yourself. Well, the Achievements (via Xbox360 Achievements) for Mega Man 10 look like they're going to be along the same lines: incredibly tough to unlock. Actually, some of them are identical to Mega Man 9, including the Achievement for defeating all eight bosses with just your standard weapon and finishing the game in under an hour. But, there's even tougher ones this time, such as the ridiculous defeat the eight bosses without your helmet on, the extremely ridiculous clear the game without using any energy, mystery, or weapon tanks and even the ain't ever gonna happen clear the entire game without taking any damage.

However, there's hope in Easy Mode -- it's possible some of these could be unlocked by playing the game that way, though we were unable to get confirmation on this from Capcom. As for PS3 Trophies, it's a safe bet they'll be the same as the Achievements.
While there are a few weird ones, for the most part, the foes feature the usual fire/ice/water/explosive themes we expect from Mega Man bosses.

We've seen Sheep Man and Commando Man previously, but now we know about Nitro Man, Strike Man (the sports-themed boss whose level was shown at CES), Blade Man (whose head is a blade), Chill Man, Solar Man, and ... Pump Man. He has a "water-themed shield weapon," according to the short blurb accompanying his portrait. (You can see portraits of all eight over on the Mega Man Network.)
CES has possibly the highest concentration of video cameras of any location on Earth. You see where this is going.

After the break, we've embedded off-screen footage of the faux-retro downloadable game's stadium stage, captured and written up in preview form by The Mega Man Network. Capcom didn't allow the boss's name to be released, so it's just "the stadium stage" for now. The MM Network blogger managed to play, and record, the stage in both normal difficulty and the new Easy Mode, allowing us to see some of the differences. It's especially notable in the goal post mid-boss area: in normal difficulty, there's a spiked ball that constantly slams into Mega Man, but in Easy Mode that obstacle is absent, making the boss a fairly simple matter. At the end, the game announces that, like Mega Man 9, there will be DLC and a time attack mode.

Mega Man 10 will be available on Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 as a download in March.
Evil robot castles! Evil robot light bulbs! Also, delightfully, the trailer includes a bit of the new soundtrack, which is as catchy and series-appropriate as that of its predecessor.

The last part of the clip gives us an idea of the scope of the new Easy Mode, which is quite a bit easier than we expected. We anticipated reduced numbers of enemies and a greater supply of health powerups, but Easy Mode actually makes the levels less complicated!

In our gallery, you can see new screenshots that hint at many of the stages we'll be challenging. There's an ice stage, a sand stage, a computery stage, a fire stage, and a ... truck stage?
Like its predecessor, the upcoming retro-inspired Mega Man 10 appears to be destined for a multiplatfom release. Although originally discovered on Nintendo's WiiWare release calendar, the latest issue of Famitsu lists the upcoming Capcom downloadable on Sony's PlayStation Network and Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade.

The news is rather unsurprising, but any excuse to use this exquisite Sheep Man fan art is good to us!
Nintendo's new Q1 schedule gives a March 2010 date for the WiiWare run-and-gun -- just two months after Capcom starts releasing Phoenix Wright ports. What a wonderful time to have an Internet-connected Wii and enjoy Capcom products.

With the release so close, we expect more information to come out soon, starting with character art for all the bosses and the mysterious third character. Capcom and i am 8 Bit plan to hand out some kind of extremely limited Mega Man swag in enticing E-Tank boxes. It's likely related to the newly announced Mega Man 10, and with the Mega Man 10 "box art" done by i am 8 Bit's Gerald de Jesus, it's possible that the item will bear that image. If you get one, be sure to let us know what's in the box! The latest issue of Nintendo Power features some mega news -- specifically, the upcoming release of Mega Man 10 on WiiWare.

The new installment, like the brilliant Mega Man 9, uses an NES-style aesthetic, and features wacky new bosses like Sheep Man. Sheep Man! Proto Man returns as a playable character (this time immediately, and not as time-delayed DLC), along with a third mystery character! The extra character's identity: just one of the details, like the release date or whether or not it's on other platforms, that we're just going to have to wait to find out.
