Mega Man Star Force 3 coming in summer

OK, everyone, be really quiet. It's going to take all our concentration to summon up enough enthusiasm to write a whole post informing you that Mega Man Star Force 3 (yes, three) is coming to the DS this summer. Wow, OK, so far so good. Just a little longer now.

There are going to be two versions, Black Ace and Red Joker, because getting excited about one version just wasn't difficult enough. OK, this level of focus is really taking its toll, but we have just enough juice left to tell you that the blistering 225 pixels of logo you see to the right is actually 25 pixels bigger than the full-size image that Capcom sent us. That's the level of excitement we're talking about here: 200 mind-melting pixels.

Thanks for the feedback from last week! Reactions to the new format seem to be somewhere in the middle, so perhaps we'll alternate between the two styles, or possibly merge them. Continued feedback is always appreciated. With that said, here's another stab in the new format. This time, with Mega Man 9 fever still running rampant (made all the more frantic with this past Monday's release of Proto Man), we've decided to take a look at the blue bomber's non-ZX series on the DS: Mega Man Star Force.

Pedigree

Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker X Saurian is -- hang on, I've gotta catch my breath after that title ... whew ... okay, I'm good -- a sequel to the Mega Man Star Force titles. I say "titles" because Capcom decided to split the title up into three "versions," similar to Nintendogs and most Pokemon games. When done right, this can be awesome. But as is the case with most things Capcom touches, it's a money-maker. That's the rub with Capcom: they produce some of the finest titles ever, but they certainly aren't shy about squeezing every penny from a game or franchise possible. Back to Star Force, once again Capcom has released multiple editions of the title. This time, only two were created: Ninja and Saurian, the latter of which we'll be using. The game is an indirect successor to the Mega Man Battle Network series. Like its predecessors, it involves light-action incorporated into RPG-styled battles. The root gameplay is enjoyable, but doesn't seem to have the lasting power to be re-packaged perpetually until the end of the time as does the primary franchise.

The worst bit about big industry events for impatient bloggers and readers? The game assets. Oh Lordy, the assets. An absolute landslide of screens, usually scattered about across, ooh, dozens of pages.

But not at DS Fanboy! Not on our watch! Because we wub you, readers, we've collected a big old stack of new screens for your viewing pleasure and placed them all after the break of just one post. This post, in fact. From the well-known to the obscure, we'd be amazed if there's not at least one game that appeals to everyone past that line of blue text. Mario & Luigi 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (right), Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel, Shining Force Feather, and Picross 3D is only scratching the surface, so make the jump!

A side-on view of Mega Man Star Force 3

It's been almost three months since the launch of the teaser site for the Blue Bomber spin-off Mega Man Star Force 3, but finally Dengeki has posted the first screens.

These include several shots of the new side-on view that was promised for battles (as previously used in the Battle Network series). It looks like the hotness, if we're honest, but we're hoping they kept the old vertical battling display in as an option for us crusty traditionalists! A look at Mega Man Star Force 3 through its promo stuff

While the main Mega Man series is about to have its first new release in nine years, the universe of Mega Man spinoff games continues to expand as rapidly as ever. The latest is Ryuusei no Rockman 3, the third in the Mega Man Star Force series, which is itself spun off from the Mega Man Battle Network games.

Capcom will sell Star Force 3 artwork at Tokyo's World Hobby Fair, and while we probably won't have the opportunity to go buy a poster or a commemorative fan, we can look at the new character art featured on those items. In the newly detailed portrait of the Mega Man character, we can see the Hunter VG device that enables the new "Wizard" monster-summoning system.

Third time's a charm with Mega Man Star Force 3

Fans of Mega Man's Star Force series of games, you'll be delighted to hear that the release date for the third title has been announced. Japanese gamers will be able to slide the DS cart into their favorite handheld come this winter.

Sadly, nothing else has been revealed, other than the shot of the main man himself you see over on the right side of this post. So, stay tuned to DS Fanboy for more information on the game as it develops.

Teaser site reveals Mega Man Star Force 3

There may be more Mega Man games than you'll ever get to play (or want to play) in your lifetime, but that hasn't stopped Capcom from milking the franchise even more.

The next game planned for the Blue Bomber is another title in the Star Force series. Yes, those of us outside of Japan haven't even gotten Mega Man Star Force 2 yet, but a third game is already on it's way.

Capcom has put up a teaser website for it, which is actually pretty nice-looking as far as official sites go. Currently, though, you can only download a wallpaper version of the picture shown above.
