Armature prototyped it in early 2010, Polygon's sources said. The site has five videos of the unreleased game, along with several gameplay details.<br /><br />Perhaps Mega Man didn't need this "gritty" reboot treatment, but on the other hand, it would have been a <em>game</em>, which is an increasingly rare thing to happen in that series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/armature-studio-worked-on-an-unreleased-mega-man-x-fps-maveric/">Armature Studio worked on an unreleased Mega Man X FPS, 'Maverick Hunter'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Apr 2013 11:45:00 EST. According to <a href="http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;prev=_t&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;sl=auto&amp;tl=en&amp;twu=1&amp;u=http://universal-gamer.com/%3Fp%3D5672&amp;usg=ALkJrhh7GHlxQ1xofm4a_mM7zIJuoIX1pw">Universal Gamer</a> (translated), there's something of a surprise hidden in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/09/mega-man-x-jumping-to-ios-in-japan-this-month/">iOS version of <em>Mega Man X</em></a>. Specifically, the site has uncovered a logo for the Blue Bomber's 25th Anniversary. Of course, just what Capcom plans to do for Mega Man's anniversary remains to be seen, with Capcom's Christian Svensson <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/28630447/Mega_Mans_impending_25th_anniversary&amp;post_num=17#511802455">promising</a> in October only that "things" are being planned.<br />
<br />
We can only hope the company will do a better job than it did with Mega Man's 24th anniversary last year. You know, when it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/inafune-asked-to-keep-working-on-canned-mega-man-projects-post-c/">cancelled</a> development on every known Mega Man project.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/rumor-mega-man-x-ios-hides-25th-anniversary-logo/">Rumor: Mega Man X iOS hides 25th anniversary logo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 20:30:00 EST. It's time for another <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8PhzrmBgMI">Good Idea, Bad Idea</a>!<br />
<br />
Good Idea: Releasing a portable version of <em>Mega Man X</em>.<br />
<br />
Bad Idea: Releasing a portable version of <em>Mega Man X</em> with touch screen controls. And basing said title on the "feature phone" version of the game, instead of, oh, the SNES game.<br />
<br />
The game will be <a href="http://app.famitsu.com/20111208_11636/">released this month</a> on iOS (in Japan, at least) and features Game Center support and a challenge mode with 80 levels.<br />

Hold <em>all</em> of your horses, padre, and don't get too excited just yet. See that picture up there? That sparkling, dynamically lit and exceedingly impressive Mega Man, torn from the pages of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> guide and punctuated by an emboldened "DLC" classification? So do we, and it's a <em>lie</em>.<br />
<br />
The blue bomber's <em>Mega Man X</em> variant won't be joining his <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_(Mega_Man)">sword-wielding comrade</a> in battle, but rather will be providing said comrade with a fancy new outfit. That's right, that's <em>costume DLC</em> for Zero, and that sound you hear is the noise made by a hundred thousand simultaneously shattered hopes and dreams.<br />
<br />
No word yet on availability or pricing, or whether this means more deceptive DLC costumes await the game's fighters down the line. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to clean up the remnants of our rage-torn office.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/12/not-how-it-looks-theater-presents-mega-man-x-isnt-in-umvc3/">Not How It Looks Theater presents: Mega Man X (isn't) in UMvC3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. We've all been there: The animation tells us that the Mega Buster is as charged as charged Mega Busters get, but that robotic abomination needs to die <em>so much</em> that we keep on chargin', sometimes for two or three whole minutes. The ESRB has rated <em>Mega Man X2</em> for Wii, meaning it's coming to the Virtual Console in North America at some unknown time. Traditionally, Mega Man releases hit the North American Virtual Console after releasing in Japan, but surprisingly there's been no word yet on a release there. Even more surprising, the ESRB rated <em>Mega Man X2 </em>an "E" for "Everyone" -- how that game got away with anything less than "M" for "Man Shooting Enemies with a Giant Arm Cannon and Shoryuken" is beyond us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/20/mega-man-x2-receives-rating-for-wii-virtual-console/">Mega Man X2 receives rating for Wii Virtual Console</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Aug 2011 01:30:00 EST. We didn't have to wait long for <em>Mega Man X</em> on Virtual Console. It was announced for Japan <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/chrono-trigger-mega-man-x-coming-to-virtual-console-in-japan/">just last month</a>, and it's on the Virtual Console in North America today! Of course, if you count <em>all</em> the time since the original 1993 release, including the years since the Wii first came out, it's a longer wait.<br />

WiiWare offers a <em>Bit.Trip Core</em> demo today, and on the total opposite end of the "crazy hardcore" spectrum, <em>My Little Baby</em>. DSiWare has a very cute submarine game, a piano teaching tool, and the third <em>DodoGo</em> puzzle game.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/">Mega Man X (SNES)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/#4064919"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/i28679_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/#4064920"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/i28680_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/#4064922"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/i28681_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/#4064923"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/i28682_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-x-snes/#4064924"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/i28683_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/nintendoware-weekly-mega-man-x/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintendoWare Weekly: Mega Man X</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/nintendoware-weekly-mega-man-x/">NintendoWare Weekly: Mega Man X</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Apr 2011 10:45:00 EST. Nintendo's Virtual Console release schedule for April includes just three games -- quite a contrast from the service's high points in 2007 and 2008, when the monthly additions would routinely top a dozen. However, even with just three releases, Nintendo of Japan manages to make us totally jealous, because <em>one</em> of those releases is <em>Chrono Trigger</em>.<br />
<br />
Nintendo (or Square Enix) has decided to charge a premium 900 Wii Points for the Super Nintendo RPG, a 100-point markup that is usually reserved for games "imported" from other regions, but used here basically <em>because they can</em>. That's still cheaper than the current (discounted) <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Chrono-Trigger-Nintendo-DS/dp/B001E27DLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1301063853&amp;sr=8-1">price</a> for the DS version in the US.<br />
<br />
In case we hadn't achieved sufficient jealousy levels, the other planned SNES release for next month is <em>Mega Man X</em>, which will sell for the standard 800-point price in Japan. Also on the schedule: <em>King of the Monsters 2</em> for Neo Geo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/chrono-trigger-mega-man-x-coming-to-virtual-console-in-japan/">Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X coming to Virtual Console in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 14:45:00 EST. But I can't ignore it. Today is the day that Mega Man makes his glorious return. Like a modern V-day, the blue bomber is coming home and completing his duty of pleasing the hardcore enthusiasts. With a rarely-seen level of excitement and anticipation being dispersed by the gaming community, we might as well have Mega Man slowly ride the streets through a ticker-tape parade seated on top of a convertible. I didn't want to stir the pot by declaring what the best <em>Mega Man</em> games are due to some sacred cows surrounding the topic. But ignoring honesty for the sake of peace and comfort would be committing a great disservice to us all. <br /><br /> We decided to take a look at the highlights of the <em>Mega Man</em> series. Any title in the expansive universe was acceptable. But let's be honest: there's only going to be games from the original and <em>X</em> series (as if <em>Mega Man Star Force</em> stood a chance). And with any luck, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9/">today's release</a> will find its way onto this list. <br /><br /> Here's a heads-up: you might not agree with these choices. I did my best to provide arguments of why every game belongs on this list and in the order that it does. In the interests of intelligent debate, please do the same in your rebuttals. <br /><br /> </div> <br /> <div align="center"> </div> <div class="buttontext"> <div align="center"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/5-mega-man-x4/" id="ninbutton">NEXT &gt;&gt; </a></div> </div> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center> </center><br /><br /> <div style="border-top: 1px solid; padding-top: 5px;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/"><img hspace="4" border="1" align="left" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/top5_thumbnail_kd_20080702.jpg" alt="" /></a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/">The Top 5</a> is a weekly feature that provides us with a forum to share our opinions on various aspects of the video game culture, and provides you with a forum to tell us how wrong we are. A brand new mode that allows players to tackle the game as the anti-hero Vile, replete with enhanced weapons and vehicles, adds to the replay value, although anyone who's even had a small taste of the game's high difficulty level will probably gnash their teeth with this extra. Still, we like this trend of upgrading established 2D games to 3D. Heck, if they're going to port an eight-year old game over to the PSP, it might as well get a boost in the visual department.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p>Here's what the official reviews have to say about this <em>side-scrollin'</em> classic:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3147616&amp;did=1">1UP</a> [7.0] - "<span class="bodytext">While <em>MHX</em> isn't a definitive reinvention of a classic along the lines of </span><em><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;">Metroid: Zero Mission</span></strong></em><span class="bodytext">, it's a solid re-creation that's been given an exceptional audiovisual upgrade. <br />
<em>Mega Man Powered Up</em> touts a totally redesigned Mega Man look and feel and completely new gameplay options, including a level designer that will allow players to design their own stages.<br />
<br />
<em>Mega Man Maverick Hunter X</em> is a remake of the original <em>Mega Man</em> <em>X</em> title that first appeared on the SNES. The game builds upon the original, adding newly rendered 3D character models and new environments.<br />
<br />
Initially available in Europe (and via import elsewhere), <em>Mega Man Powered Up</em> will be available March 24 while <em>Mega Man Maverick Hunter X </em>will be available a month earlier on February 24.<em><br />
