The original soundtrack for <em>Mega Man 5</em> is now available for $8.95 on Capcom's <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.281373700/Mega-Man-5-Official-Soundtrack.html?resid=UV9foAoBAlgAAANGKc8AAAA8&amp;rests=1368913879766">official shop</a>; it's almost as if they planned its release to coincide with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/new-nintendo-eshop-releases-super-metroid-super-ghouls-n-ghos/">debut</a> of <em>Mega Man 5</em> on the 3DS Virtual Console. What a weird coincidence!<br />
<br />
At 57 hot jams long, <em>Mega Man 5</em>'s soundtrack was composed by Mari Yamaguchi, who was often credited mononymously (as "Mari") for her work at Capcom. She also composed the music for <em>Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts</em> and several of the songs on the <em>Breath of Fire</em> soundtrack, in addition to handling arrangement duties for the TurboGrafx-16 version of <em>Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition</em>. Yamaguchi returned to the Mega Man franchise in 2010, penning the stage theme for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-10"><em>Mega Man 10</em></a>'s Sheep Man.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/18/mega-man-5-ost-busts-into-the-capcom-store/">Mega Man 5 OST busts into the Capcom Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 22:30:00 EST. Who could possibly want a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/24/heres-that-mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/">statue</a> to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mega Man when you know that somewhere out there a Blue Bomber-adorned NES exists? Ryan Fitzpatrick (aka Platinumfungi) created this one-of-a-kind blue NES, which features a backlit Mega Man on top of the case with a rather slick paint job.<br />
<br />
Fitzpatrick has a bunch of photos of the system on his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.517465208290043.1073741828.305139316189301&amp;type=1">Facebook</a> page. One issue we have is that it just wouldn't feel right to play any NES game on it that isn't the best Mega Man game ever, <em>Mega Man 2</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/this-backlit-mega-man-25th-anniversary-nes-has-style/">This backlit Mega Man 25th anniversary NES has style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 23:59:00 EST. Capcom has taken part in an ongoing observation of Mega Man's 25th anniversary with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/29/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue-up-for-pre-order/">statues</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/06/mega-man-1-ost-now-available-digitally-through-capcom/">soundtrack releases</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/arm-your-computer-with-mega-buster-usb-drive/">USB drives</a>, and even an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/street-fighter-x-mega-man-is-a-free-pc-8-bit-crossover-availabl/">officially promoted fan game</a>. As we stretch into year two of the 25th anniversary celebration, Capcom is producing a Mega Man-themed case for 3DS and 3DS XL.<br />
<br />
At first blush, outfitting a 3DS in Mega Man garb seems like a cruel tease, after the death of <em>Mega Man Legends 3</em>. But Capcom is releasing all of the NES Mega Mans on the handheld's Virtual Console (it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/25/new-nintendo-eshop-releases-rayman-legends-challenges-mega-man/?icid=joystiq_3ds_art">up to <em>4</em> now</a>), making an NES-style Mega Man motif appropriate.<br />
<br />
The case will be on sale at Comic-Con, as well as at Capcom's online store.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/01/capcom-encases-3ds-3ds-xl-in-vintage-mega-man-look/">Capcom encases 3DS, 3DS XL in vintage Mega Man look</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 May 2013 11:00:00 EST. The 42 track album (!) is available digitally for <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.278653900/Mega-Man-2-Official-Soundtrack.html?resid=UV9foAoBAlgAAANGKc8AAAA8&amp;rests=1365891888555">$8.95</a>.<br /><br /><em>Mega Man 2</em>'s soundtrack was composed by Takashi Tateishi, who also composed the music for <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LumZP0rpoDM">the arcade version of <em>Willow</em></a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rWJtuAe_-s"><em>U.N. Squadron</em></a>, among other things. His work on <em>Mega Man 2</em> was credited under the alias "Ogeretsu Kun," a practice which was not entirely uncommon for Capcom at the time. Additional contributions to the soundtrack were also made by Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae.<br /><br />In related news, the music from Dr. Wily's castle is still <em>the hottest jam</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/13/mega-man-2-ost-now-available-through-capcom/">Mega Man 2 OST now available through Capcom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Apr 2013 21:00:00 EST. Next up is a US release of Bandai's D-Arts Bass and Treble figures, based on the sorta evil robot and his dog from <em>Mega Man &amp; Bass</em> and <em>Mega Man 8</em>, coming this summer as a two-pack for $42.99.<br /><br />They look pretty cool, for the Mega Man universe "giant-footed anime robots" definition of cool. They join a D-Arts <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2013/01/29/mega-man-rush-and-met-d-arts-figure-now-available">Mega Man/Rush set</a> released in January.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/mega-mans-bass-and-treble-in-figure-form-this-summer/">Mega Man's Bass and Treble in figure form this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 14:15:00 EST. Armature prototyped it in early 2010, Polygon's sources said. The site has five videos of the unreleased game, along with several gameplay details.<br /><br />Perhaps Mega Man didn't need this "gritty" reboot treatment, but on the other hand, it would have been a <em>game</em>, which is an increasingly rare thing to happen in that series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/armature-studio-worked-on-an-unreleased-mega-man-x-fps-maveric/">Armature Studio worked on an unreleased Mega Man X FPS, 'Maverick Hunter'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Apr 2013 11:45:00 EST. Capcom offered a few photos and details about the statue, which you can view in the gallery below.<br /><br />The collectible character stands at 10 inches tall, and is made by Multiverse Studios. It features USB-powered LED lights on the statue's base as well as Mega Man's helmet and arm cannon. Capcom hasn't said exactly how many will be produced, but there will be under 2,000 of them made. It will go on sale exclusively at San Diego Comic Con in July. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/">Mega Man (25th Anniversary Statue)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/#5759900"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/mm-25-pax-statue01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/#5759901"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/mm-25-pax-statue02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/#5759902"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/mm-25-pax-statue03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/24/heres-that-mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/">Here's that Mega Man 25th anniversary statue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Mar 2013 14:30:00 EST. Speaking at the World of Capcom panel at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2013">PAX East</a>, Capcom community manager Brett Elston dropped some good news for mega fans. First and foremost, Capcom is developing a new game in the Mega Man series, but it's "not ready" to fully announce it just yet.<br /><br />Two more of the series' 8-bit classics are slated to hit the 3DS eShop in the next two months, with <em>Mega Man 4</em> arriving April 25 and <em>Mega Man 5</em> on May 16. Capcom will also be releasing a special light-up figure to commemorate Mega Man's 25th anniversary.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Capcom has clarified Elston's comments, saying that a new Mega Man game has not been confirmed. The company is having "ongoing discussions about Mega Man," but it "won't announce anything until something is ready."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/new-mega-man-game-on-the-way-more-classics-coming-to-3ds-eshop/">Capcom having 'ongoing discussions' for new Mega Man game, more classics coming to 3DS eShop [Update: New Mega Man not confirmed]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 12:28:00 EST. Next week, Capcom will start selling the 8GB Mega Buster USB drive, a flash drive shaped like Mega Man's weaponized right arm.<br /><br />In addition to (a link to a download of) the freeware game, the $20 drive also comes loaded with digital copies of Mega Man comics, the Mega Man Tribute and Mega Man X Complete Works art books, wallpapers, and a soundtrack. <br /><br />More importantly, it comes with a <em>flash drive shaped like the Mega Buster</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/arm-your-computer-with-mega-buster-usb-drive/">Arm your computer with Mega Buster USB drive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 16:00:00 EST. And, like Capcom tends to do for Mega Man projects, it's polling fans to find the best design. As this inscrutable practice takes off, we feel the need to document it.<br /><br />A <a href="http://rockman-ultrabook.com/">poll</a> is up for the Ultrabook, with users allowed to vote once per day to select whether a generic "Rockman" design, tiled Dr. Wily and Robot Masters (the correct choice), overwrought NES box art-style Mega Man, or a pile of various Rolls will emblazon the laptop.<br /><br />So if you want to spend a few minutes voting on the look of a computer you very likely won't be able to buy, and probably shouldn't - sweet Mega Man art is not the recommended metric for choosing a computer - you're free to do so.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/26/mega-man-gets-equipped-with-japanese-laptop/">Mega Man gets equipped with Japanese laptop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Feb 2013 16:30:00 EST. For your Microsoft space bucks, you can outfit your little digital self with a Mega Buster, helmet, or even full Mega Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, and Bomb Man costumes. Composed by San Francisco-based electronic music producer A_Rival, the 22-track album fuses Mega Man's sonic sensibilities with classic pieces of orchestration from Street Fighter's past.<br /><br />The soundtrack, which includes character themes and scores from the game's various menus, is being sold through Bandcamp's name-your-own-price model with a minimum price of $0.00. So, hypothetically, this could either be the cheapest <em>or</em> most expensive piece of music you've ever purchased. Regardless of which end of that spectrum you feel is most appropriate, at least do yourself the favor of downloading these sweet, chippy jams.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/street-fighter-x-mega-mans-chiptune-soundtrack-now-on-bandcamp/">Street Fighter X Mega Man's chiptune soundtrack now on Bandcamp</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 23:00:00 EST. We're guessing there's significant interest in a new, semi-official, free Mega Man game, because <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/mega_man">Capcom's site</a> seems to be getting overwhelmed. Mega Man fans know how to be patient when waiting for a new game, of course, so we know you'll be able to get it eventually.<br /><br />In other exciting Mega Man news, Capcom <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2012/12/17/mega-man-1-through-6-coming-to-3ds-eshop">plans</a> to release all six NES games on the 3DS Virtual Console in North America and Europe, starting with <em>Mega Man</em> on December 27, followed by <em>Mega Man 2</em> on Feb. 7. More importantly, as <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/11/mega-man-creator-has-a-new-side-scrolling-action-game-where-you-play-as-the-president/">Siliconera</a> reports, it looks brilliantly bizarre.<br /><br />First off, you play as the President of the United States - probably not specifically <a href="http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/imfrmdixie/obama.gif">the big O</a>. Then you transform into what looks like a futuristic superhero version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evel_Knievel">Evel Knievel</a>, all to save humanity from a swarm of evil mutants. Each stage has a three-minute time limit, with the stage only complete once the final boss is defeated. A promotional <a href="https://lh4.ggpht.com/1lP9ZnXlUpOZ4oeXStnP6yKiGEMSz-JBDq78pXYTOrTnbahZqsTYOVO0CAcya7UvLm8">image</a> from the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.mbga.a12011158.lite">Google Play</a> listing suggests a diverse arsenal to choose from, while one <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/postgallery/?p_gal=239958|1">screenshot </a>shows a Batman-like 'Bwoom!' and 'Kaboom!!<br /><br />In summary: Mega Man platforming action, US super-president, time-limits, comic book stylings, and lots of fun-looking weapons. This is why we're interested.<br /><br />We reached out to Marvelous AQL, who are publishing <em>JJ Rockets</em> in Japan, but the company declined to provide any further comment. We do know, though, the game is also releasing on iOS at some point. As it is, we wouldn't be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/01/inafunes-soul-sacrifice-coming-to-vita-in-north-america-and-e/">surprised</a> by a Western release of another Marvelous-published Inafune game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/mega-man-creators-jj-rockets-hits-android-in-japan-stars-us-pr/">Mega Man creator's JJ Rockets hits Android in Japan, stars US president</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2012 09:30:00 EST. It's ... for iOS, and it's a social game. <em>Rockman Xover</em> is a game in which players create their own Rockman character, a "production model" robot, and gather "battle memory" to increase its abilities.<br /><br />Despite the RPG elements, screenshots show what looks very much like a traditional side-scrolling Mega Man game. Considering the virtual controls, we don't know how much of a good thing that is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/16/mega-man-social-game-sees-universes-xover/">Mega Man social game sees universes 'Xover'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2012 14:00:00 EST. In addition to its slate of digest-sized books about indecisive time-lost teens, Archie has published<em> Sonic the Hedgehog</em> comics since 1993 (allowing plenty of time to build a unique and insane Sonic universe), and it began publishing <em>Mega Man</em> comics last year.<br /><br />Having this historic meeting take place in the world of comic books rather than video games doesn't make it any <em>less</em> bizarre, and we can't wait to see what happens. Will Mega Man destroy Sonic and steal his speed?<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> According to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/life/comics/story/2012-07-10/Sonic-the-Hedgehog-Mega-Man-crossover/56118040/1">USA Today</a>, the crossover will take place in twelve installments across Archie's <em>Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man</em>, and<em> Sonic Universe</em> series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/mega-man-to-meet-sonic-in-upcoming-comics/">Mega Man to meet Sonic in upcoming comics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2012 09:30:00 EST. It was to be published by Capcom, but the company had reservations about the new intellectual property -- so much so that it nearly canned the project outright. Ex-Capcom global head of production Keiji Inafune recalled his side of the story during an impassioned GDC 2012 speech yesterday.<br /><br />Inafune claims he watched from the outside as Capcom's support for <em>Resident Evil</em> faded, and while he worked on other titles within the same company. Mikami fought for the fledgling game, eventually getting it published for Sony's PlayStation. The rest, of course, is zombie-ridden history.<br /><br />When Capcom began work on a sequel, Inafune says he got himself involved in a production role. "While Mikami focused on the game, as the producer, it was my mission to sell this title to as many people around the world," he said to a room full of attendees. But with the massive success of the first <em>RE</em> title, Inafune's role as salesman was relegated to a cake walk. "With my previous title <em>Mega Man Legends</em>, it was pretty challenging to even book a round of press appointments. No one was interested in hearing about a new Mega Man title," Inafune said. "However, the scenario was completely different with <em>RE2</em>. Once we announced the project, the requests poured in."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/how-resident-evil-2-helped-keiji-inafune-become-the-indie-dev-he/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How Resident Evil 2 helped Keiji Inafune become the indie dev he is today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/how-resident-evil-2-helped-keiji-inafune-become-the-indie-dev-he/">How Resident Evil 2 helped Keiji Inafune become the indie dev he is today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Mar 2012 09:00:00 EST. As soon as Mega/Pac-Man are available, we don't expect to see anyone else, ever again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/03/street-fighter-x-tekkens-pac-man-and-mega-man-hits-ps3s-on-marc/">Street Fighter X Tekken's Pac-Man and Mega Man hit PS3s on March 13</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Mar 2012 10:30:00 EST. According to a tweet from producer Yoshinori Ono, the decision was made with input from Capcom executive emeritus Keiji Inafune.<br /><br />"I consulted with Mr.Megaman (his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 year ago," Ono said. This iteration was the "result" of that consultation. A previous Mega Man game developed under Inafune's command, the cancelled <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-universe"><em>Mega Man Universe</em></a>, also featured "Bad Box Art Mega Man." So maybe Inafune just thinks it's really funny.<br /><br />Now, as for why Mega Man and Pac-Man are Sony-exclusive characters despite not having anything to do with Sony or the PlayStation platforms ... we aren't sure who was consulted on that decision.<br /><br />[Thanks, Alex!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/27/street-fighter-x-tekkens-mega-man-has-inafunes-blessing/">Street Fighter X Tekken's Mega Man has Inafune's blessing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jan 2012 15:30:00 EST. The 2.0 update for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/13/super-mario-crossover-update-coming-june-25/"><em>Super Mario Bros. Crossover</em></a>, coming in Q1 2012, gives the homemade blend-em-up a bit more flash and a wider spectrum of nostalgia. And the new SNES and Gameboy visuals don't detract from the game's real purpose, which is to destroy that aloof minion Lakitu in new and interesting ways.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/super-mario-bros-crossover-gets-a-makeover-in-version-2-0/">Super Mario Bros. Of course, just what Capcom plans to do for Mega Man's anniversary remains to be seen, with Capcom's Christian Svensson <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/28630447/Mega_Mans_impending_25th_anniversary&amp;post_num=17#511802455">promising</a> in October only that "things" are being planned.<br />
<br />
We can only hope the company will do a better job than it did with Mega Man's 24th anniversary last year. You know, when it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/inafune-asked-to-keep-working-on-canned-mega-man-projects-post-c/">cancelled</a> development on every known Mega Man project.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/rumor-mega-man-x-ios-hides-25th-anniversary-logo/">Rumor: Mega Man X iOS hides 25th anniversary logo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 20:30:00 EST. It might be shortsighted to buy UMD-based PSP games so close to the launch of the PlayStation Vita, but these new deals from Capcom may still tempt you, especially if you're budget-conscious enough to wait on the Vita anyway. The publisher has bundled some of its most popular PSP games into $14.99 "dual packs," one containing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-maverick-hunter-x"><em>Mega Man Maverick Hunter X</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-powered-up"><em>Mega Man Powered Up</em></a>, and another containing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/monster-hunter-freedom-unite"><em>Monster Hunter Freedom Unite</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/monster-hunter-freedom-2"><em>Freedom 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
You'll have to brave entering a GameStop for these, as they're exclusive to that retailer. Well, we suppose you could "brave" its website from the relative safety of your home, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/mega-man-and-monster-hunter-bundled-up-for-psp/">Mega Man and Monster Hunter bundled up for PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. <br />
There's a surprise lurking in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a> that is most decidedly not undead -- Proto Man! You can unlock Proto Man's outfit, shield and a working arm cannon through a series of steps so strangely complex that we're shocked anyone figured this easter egg out at all.<br />
<br />
Apparently you can snag the boots no problem, but to get the shield and blaster you have to beat the game with an S rank, medal in all 30 challenges, defeat Jack in a game of poker at the safe house, and then start that file again (not a new game), htka of <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/626630-dead-rising-2-off-the-record/60620500">GameFAQs</a> posted. Or you can just watch the above video and pretend you're controlling Proto Frank West Man. You can even make your own sound effects. We won't tell anyone.<br />
<br />
If you'll remember, there was a similar unlock in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>, but it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/play-dead-rising-as-mega-man/">bluer</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/16/frank-west-can-be-proto-man-in-dead-rising-2-off-the-record/">Frank West can be Proto Man in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. For as good as they are with revenge, salvation and murder, it's far rarer to find video games that delve into the intricacies of love and human reproduction. We've all been there: The animation tells us that the Mega Buster is as charged as charged Mega Busters get, but that robotic abomination needs to die <em>so much</em> that we keep on chargin', sometimes for two or three whole minutes. In addition to the <em>Mega Man 9</em> and <em>10</em> DLC packs listed as discounted in this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/psn-tuesday-red-dead-redemption-discounts-far-cry-2/">PSN update</a>, you can also get ... <em>Mega Man 9</em> and <em>10</em>. And Mega Mans 1-3. Though they didn't show up on Sony's official list of updates, the entire Mega Man catalog on PS3 is on sale this week, half off.<br />
<br />
The PSOne Imports versions of <em>Mega Man 1, 2</em>, and <em>3</em> (based on the Japanese PlayStation re-releases) are now available for $2.99 each. <em>Mega Man 9</em> and 10 sell for $4.99 each this week, with DLC bundles an extra $2.99. Given Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/capcom-europe-mega-man-legends-3-canceled-due-to-lack-of-devroo/">recent attitude</a> toward Mega Man, we'd love to see what happened if these discounts led to a massive sales boost.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/mega-man-1-2-3-9-and-10-on-sale-on-psn/">Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 on sale on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST. We typically wouldn't characterize most video game theme song covers that get sent our way as "soulful" or "profound," but then again, most covers that get sent our way aren't as incredible as <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yK0GAC5c6w">Dario Montanino's electric take</a> on <em>Mega Man 3</em>'s Proto Man theme. Check it out in the video below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/mega-man-3s-proto-man-theme-gets-shredded-moves-us/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega Man 3's Proto Man theme gets shredded, moves us</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/mega-man-3s-proto-man-theme-gets-shredded-moves-us/">Mega Man 3's Proto Man theme gets shredded, moves us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 20:00:00 EST. It's true: we've become drunk from power, thanks to our ability to link to deals and<em> make people buy things</em>.<br />
