It was to be published by Capcom, but the company had reservations about the new intellectual property -- so much so that it nearly canned the project outright. Ex-Capcom global head of production Keiji Inafune recalled his side of the story during an impassioned GDC 2012 speech yesterday.<br /><br />Inafune claims he watched from the outside as Capcom's support for <em>Resident Evil</em> faded, and while he worked on other titles within the same company. Mikami fought for the fledgling game, eventually getting it published for Sony's PlayStation. The rest, of course, is zombie-ridden history.<br /><br />When Capcom began work on a sequel, Inafune says he got himself involved in a production role. "While Mikami focused on the game, as the producer, it was my mission to sell this title to as many people around the world," he said to a room full of attendees. But with the massive success of the first <em>RE</em> title, Inafune's role as salesman was relegated to a cake walk. "With my previous title <em>Mega Man Legends</em>, it was pretty challenging to even book a round of press appointments. No one was interested in hearing about a new Mega Man title," Inafune said. "However, the scenario was completely different with <em>RE2</em>. Once we announced the project, the requests poured in."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/how-resident-evil-2-helped-keiji-inafune-become-the-indie-dev-he/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How Resident Evil 2 helped Keiji Inafune become the indie dev he is today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/how-resident-evil-2-helped-keiji-inafune-become-the-indie-dev-he/">How Resident Evil 2 helped Keiji Inafune become the indie dev he is today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Mar 2012 09:00:00 EST. We're alright with this, because it means we'll at least get <em>one</em> week of fighting regular characters online. As soon as Mega/Pac-Man are available, we don't expect to see anyone else, ever again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/03/street-fighter-x-tekkens-pac-man-and-mega-man-hits-ps3s-on-marc/">Street Fighter X Tekken's Pac-Man and Mega Man hit PS3s on March 13</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Mar 2012 10:30:00 EST. According to a tweet from producer Yoshinori Ono, the decision was made with input from Capcom executive emeritus Keiji Inafune.<br /><br />"I consulted with Mr.Megaman (his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 year ago," Ono said. This iteration was the "result" of that consultation. A previous Mega Man game developed under Inafune's command, the cancelled <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-universe"><em>Mega Man Universe</em></a>, also featured "Bad Box Art Mega Man." So maybe Inafune just thinks it's really funny.<br /><br />Now, as for why Mega Man and Pac-Man are Sony-exclusive characters despite not having anything to do with Sony or the PlayStation platforms ... we aren't sure who was consulted on that decision.<br /><br />[Thanks, Alex!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/27/street-fighter-x-tekkens-mega-man-has-inafunes-blessing/">Street Fighter X Tekken's Mega Man has Inafune's blessing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jan 2012 15:30:00 EST. The 2.0 update for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/13/super-mario-crossover-update-coming-june-25/"><em>Super Mario Bros. Crossover</em></a>, coming in Q1 2012, gives the homemade blend-em-up a bit more flash and a wider spectrum of nostalgia. And the new SNES and Gameboy visuals don't detract from the game's real purpose, which is to destroy that aloof minion Lakitu in new and interesting ways.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/super-mario-bros-crossover-gets-a-makeover-in-version-2-0/">Super Mario Bros. According to <a href="http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;prev=_t&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;sl=auto&amp;tl=en&amp;twu=1&amp;u=http://universal-gamer.com/%3Fp%3D5672&amp;usg=ALkJrhh7GHlxQ1xofm4a_mM7zIJuoIX1pw">Universal Gamer</a> (translated), there's something of a surprise hidden in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/09/mega-man-x-jumping-to-ios-in-japan-this-month/">iOS version of <em>Mega Man X</em></a>. Specifically, the site has uncovered a logo for the Blue Bomber's 25th Anniversary. Of course, just what Capcom plans to do for Mega Man's anniversary remains to be seen, with Capcom's Christian Svensson <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/28630447/Mega_Mans_impending_25th_anniversary&amp;post_num=17#511802455">promising</a> in October only that "things" are being planned.<br />

We can only hope the company will do a better job than it did with Mega Man's 24th anniversary last year. You know, when it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/inafune-asked-to-keep-working-on-canned-mega-man-projects-post-c/">cancelled</a> development on every known Mega Man project.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/rumor-mega-man-x-ios-hides-25th-anniversary-logo/">Rumor: Mega Man X iOS hides 25th anniversary logo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 20:30:00 EST. It might be shortsighted to buy UMD-based PSP games so close to the launch of the PlayStation Vita, but these new deals from Capcom may still tempt you, especially if you're budget-conscious enough to wait on the Vita anyway. The publisher has bundled some of its most popular PSP games into $14.99 "dual packs," one containing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-maverick-hunter-x"><em>Mega Man Maverick Hunter X</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-powered-up"><em>Mega Man Powered Up</em></a>, and another containing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/monster-hunter-freedom-unite"><em>Monster Hunter Freedom Unite</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/monster-hunter-freedom-2"><em>Freedom 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
You'll have to brave entering a GameStop for these, as they're exclusive to that retailer. Well, we suppose you could "brave" its website from the relative safety of your home, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/mega-man-and-monster-hunter-bundled-up-for-psp/">Mega Man and Monster Hunter bundled up for PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. <br />
There's a surprise lurking in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a> that is most decidedly not undead -- Proto Man! You can unlock Proto Man's outfit, shield and a working arm cannon through a series of steps so strangely complex that we're shocked anyone figured this easter egg out at all.<br />
<br />
Apparently you can snag the boots no problem, but to get the shield and blaster you have to beat the game with an S rank, medal in all 30 challenges, defeat Jack in a game of poker at the safe house, and then start that file again (not a new game), htka of <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/626630-dead-rising-2-off-the-record/60620500">GameFAQs</a> posted. Or you can just watch the above video and pretend you're controlling Proto Frank West Man. You can even make your own sound effects. We won't tell anyone.<br />
<br />
If you'll remember, there was a similar unlock in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>, but it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/play-dead-rising-as-mega-man/">bluer</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/16/frank-west-can-be-proto-man-in-dead-rising-2-off-the-record/">Frank West can be Proto Man in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. For as good as they are with revenge, salvation and murder, it's far rarer to find video games that delve into the intricacies of love and human reproduction. We've all been there: The animation tells us that the Mega Buster is as charged as charged Mega Busters get, but that robotic abomination needs to die <em>so much</em> that we keep on chargin', sometimes for two or three whole minutes. In addition to the <em>Mega Man 9</em> and <em>10</em> DLC packs listed as discounted in this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/psn-tuesday-red-dead-redemption-discounts-far-cry-2/">PSN update</a>, you can also get ... <em>Mega Man 9</em> and <em>10</em>. And Mega Mans 1-3. Though they didn't show up on Sony's official list of updates, the entire Mega Man catalog on PS3 is on sale this week, half off.<br />
<br />
The PSOne Imports versions of <em>Mega Man 1, 2</em>, and <em>3</em> (based on the Japanese PlayStation re-releases) are now available for $2.99 each. <em>Mega Man 9</em> and 10 sell for $4.99 each this week, with DLC bundles an extra $2.99. Given Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/capcom-europe-mega-man-legends-3-canceled-due-to-lack-of-devroo/">recent attitude</a> toward Mega Man, we'd love to see what happened if these discounts led to a massive sales boost.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/mega-man-1-2-3-9-and-10-on-sale-on-psn/">Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 on sale on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST. We typically wouldn't characterize most video game theme song covers that get sent our way as "soulful" or "profound," but then again, most covers that get sent our way aren't as incredible as <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yK0GAC5c6w">Dario Montanino's electric take</a> on <em>Mega Man 3</em>'s Proto Man theme. Check it out in the video below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/mega-man-3s-proto-man-theme-gets-shredded-moves-us/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega Man 3's Proto Man theme gets shredded, moves us</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/mega-man-3s-proto-man-theme-gets-shredded-moves-us/">Mega Man 3's Proto Man theme gets shredded, moves us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 20:00:00 EST. If you know your way around a pen, paintbrush or tablet, and are also filled with a surplus of fandom for the <em>Mega Man</em> franchise, Udon Entertainment could use your help. The company is publishing <a href="http://gameswag.com/2010/12/udon-announces-the-mega-man-tribute-sends-an-open-call-to-artists/">a collection of fan art</a> featuring the Blue Bomber, and is currently accepting submissions.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/09/fan-art-being-accepted-for-udons-mega-man-tribute-book/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fan art being accepted for Udon's Mega Man Tribute book</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/09/fan-art-being-accepted-for-udons-mega-man-tribute-book/">Fan art being accepted for Udon's Mega Man Tribute book</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Dec 2010 02:00:00 EST. The list includes characters like the <a href="http://capcomdatabase.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Arremer">Red Arremer</a>, Mega Man (in <em>Battle Network</em> and classic styles), and Frank West/Chuck Greene (probably as alternate versions of the same character) on the Capcom end, and Ultron, Squirrel Girl, and Thanos from Marvel. The most random character on the list is probably Victor Delacroix from 2003's <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Legion">Chaos Legion</a></em>.<br />
<br />
Though, of course, all of this new information is unconfirmed, it's worth noting that She-Hulk and Zero, both appearing in the list from our source, were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/she-hulk-and-zero-revealed-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3/">announced</a> after we received it. In addition, some of the characters, like Frank West and Soki, are believable because they were featured in <em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em> (like Zero) and thus are probably relatively easy to update for <em>MvC3</em>. The Mega Man character is likely also similar to the <em>Mega Man Legends</em>-style version found in <em>Tatsunoko</em>. It's possible some of the new characters are even based on <em>Tatsunoko</em> movesets -- Delacroix makes more sense if he's taking the place of the sword-wielding Karas or Tekkaman Blade, for example.<br />

Hey, here's that new desktop background you desperately wanted, even if you didn't know it yet. It's <a href="http://blog.pikimal.com/geek/2010/11/09/200-gaming-characters-as-mega-man-sprites/">a gargantuan spread</a> featuring over 200 characters from video game franchises, new and old, redrawn in the style of <em>Mega Man</em>. The image comes from pixel artist Chris Bringhurst, who released a compilation half this size last month. If he wanted to keep doubling it every few weeks or so, we would <em>not</em> hold it against him.<br />

The GALAPAGOS <a href="http://live.mb.softbank.jp/mb/smartphone/product/003sh/">003SH</a> and <a href="http://live.mb.softbank.jp/mb/smartphone/product/005sh/">005SH</a>, two new Android phones offered by Japan's Softbank mobile phone company, both have 3D screens, and Capcom has announced three games that will come pre-installed on the devices.<br />

"It's been ten years since the last Mega Man Legends game," Inafune reminded the captive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-york-comic-con-2010">New York Comic Con</a> audience, before unveiling a new teaser trailer for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-legends-3-project"><em>Mega Man Legends 3 Project</em></a> for Nintendo 3DS.<br />
<br />
Why the "Project" in the title? Inafune clarified that this "project" would be a collaborative experience -- but not in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-universe"><em>Mega Man Universe</em></a> kind of way. Instead, the community will be able to actively participate in the development of the game. The Capcom-Unity website will be updated with a "<a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/devroom">Dev Room</a>," where fans will be able to submit their gameplay ideas, boss ideas, character ideas, and more. In the future, fans will be able to vie for a position in the game's voice cast.<br />
<br />
The first challenge for fans is to pick the next heroine in the <em>Legends</em> series. Nine different artists, including Inafune himself, are offering designs. The fan-driven vote will determine the female star of <em>Legends 3</em>. Keep an eye on the Dev Room for your chance to decide the future of the long-dormant <em>Legends</em> series. <strong>Update:</strong> Now with first video, after the break!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/">Mega Man Legends 3 (Heroine Concepts)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/#3453415"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/mml1pic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/#3453416"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/mml2pic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/#3453417"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/mml3pic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/#3453418"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/mml4pic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-legends-3-heroine-concepts/#3453419"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/mml5pic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/mega-man-legends-3-invites-fans-to-actively-participate-in-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega Man Legends 3 invites fans to actively participate in game development</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/mega-man-legends-3-invites-fans-to-actively-participate-in-game/">Mega Man Legends 3 invites fans to actively participate in game development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 10 Oct 2010 13:30:00 EST. For one thing, it's a Mega Man game! I like it when those are good. For another, the concept of making your own Mega Man stages and playing them with cobbled-together heroes or other Capcom characters is a total slam dunk. I'm just ... not really sure about anything else.<br />
<br />
The major hook for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mega-man-universe"><em>Universe</em></a> is that you can build your own avatar out of parts from various Mega <em>Mans</em>, the series' bosses and other Capcom characters (Capcom won't say yet exactly how you obtain these parts in the game). The TGS demo build included multiple premade Mega Mans, including one in the style of Keiji Inafune's drawings and one resembling the style of the dopey space ranger from the Mega Man box art. Each one has different attributes in terms of health, speed, jumping ability and so on. You can further augment these abilities by changing parts.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/">Mega Man Universe (TGS 2010)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/#3372709"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/mmutgs201001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/#3372710"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/mmutgs201002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/#3372711"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/mmutgs201003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/#3372712"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/mmutgs201004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-tgs-2010/#3372713"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/mmutgs201005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/mega-man-universe-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega Man Universe preview: Mega Man Uncertainty</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/mega-man-universe-preview/">Mega Man Universe preview: Mega Man Uncertainty</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 18:00:00 EST. Finally, we found someone who knows a thing or two about the side-scroller: producer Akiko Ito. At TGS, we confronted Ito and begged her to give us any information possible. Well, actually we interviewed her in an appropriately professional manner, with our desperation just under the surface.<br />
<br />
According to Ito, the game isn't "just" a <em>Mega Man</em> title with customizable levels and guest characters -- it's also based on<em> Mega Man 2;</em> containing faithful remakes of the stages from that game as its premade levels. Find out more about the game's origins, its development, and our shared dream of playable <em>Ace Attorney</em> characters in the full interview after the break.<br />

According to producer Akiko Ito, it'll contain even more familiar elements than we've seen: the levels and bosses of Mega Man 2.<br />
<br />
Ito told Joystiq during an interview, "The base story and the base game is taken from <em>Mega Man 2</em>, so players can experience <em>Mega Man 2 </em>through this game." She explained that these "default" stages don't have to remain in their original form, as well: "Basically, we're going to create the stages from <em>Mega Man 2</em> faithfully in this new style, and you can play them as is, or you can customize different sections of them, or you can customize all of it if you want to, so pretty much you can do whatever you'd like with the stages." <br />

We're learning more about what <em>Mega Man </em>creator Keiji Inafune is cooking up with his latest project, the downloadable <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-universe">Mega Man Universe</a> </em>for PSN and XBLA. In advance of next week's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom has delivered new screens and -- more importantly -- details, specifically where the ability to create your own Mega Man and stages is concerned.<br />
<br />
According to Capcom, "you can create your own original Mega Man by assembling parts you like," adding that "your abilities will change depending on the parts you choose." There will be "a wide variety" of these parts, leading us to believe that the "Ryu Man" featured at the end of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/first-mega-man-universe-gameplay-footage-revealed/">recent gameplay videos</a> is one of these custom creations.<br />
<br />
Sounding a bit like <em>LittleBigPlanet</em>, <em>Mega Man Universe </em>will also feature a full level editor for building your own stages, which can then be shared with others online. Of course, this means you can download and play through others' creations -- but it's a final bit of info dropped by the game's developer that we find most intriguing. "Aside from Mega Man themed stages, there are a variety of custom stage parts that will be revealed soon," Capcom says. Ryu Man running through a <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghosts_n_goblins">Ghosts 'N Goblins</a> </em>themed level with <em>Mega Man </em>gameplay, perhaps? Sure seems like something <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/capcoms-worlds-collide-in-mega-man-universe-for-psn-and-xbla/">the original teaser</a> hinted at.<br />
<br />
<em>Mega Man Universe </em>will be playable at TGS, where we'll put together a juicy hands-on preview of it for all the loyal Mega-fans in the audience.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/">Mega Man Universe (09/09/10)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/#3347889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/13cc1a61e7c06bac69dbea32d315b30f_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/#3347890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/a3a62c88b7ed949ca53cbe7980c1e178_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/#3347891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/a4d24510fdae9e885ca9f6fc2a847ed9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/#3347892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/a6bf0460a2de52f5762d106a69b8c4f0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-universe-09-09-10/#3347893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/a8b496736b22ee33aefb9467b030728a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/mega-man-universe-character-and-level-editor-details-hit-plus-n/">Mega Man Universe character and level editor details hit (plus new screens!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 21:00:00 EST. Servbot fans, take heed! Capcom is taking pre-orders for the <em>adorable</em> Servbot figures seen here. They're 3.5 inches tall, have movable arms and adjustable <em>bobbling</em> action. They're a bit expensive at $9.95 plus shipping, but there are fewer than a thousand available. Despite the existence of a trailer, details about the actual game are vague -- the trailer shows stop-motion footage of Capcom characters, including <em>Street Fighter</em>'s Ryu and <em>Ghosts &amp; Goblins</em>' Arthur, teaming up with Mega Man in a spontaneously appearing arcade, suggesting that the game itself is a Capcom crossover experience. At one point, a Ryu/Arthur/Mega Man amalgam can be seen!<br />
<br />
"This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be," producer Keiji Inafune said in the announcement. "When fans finally get to see it, I believe they'll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true." The Capcom tagline is "imagination is the star of the game." Watch the trailer after the break (courtesy of <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6269312.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;1">Gamespot</a>) and try to imagine what kind of game this will turn out to be.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/capcoms-worlds-collide-in-mega-man-universe-for-psn-and-xbla/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom's worlds collide in 'Mega Man Universe' for PSN and XBLA</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/capcoms-worlds-collide-in-mega-man-universe-for-psn-and-xbla/">Capcom's worlds collide in 'Mega Man Universe' for PSN and XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jul 2010 12:24:00 EST. A demo for MM8BDM was <a href="http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=2218">recently released</a> by its creator, Mike Hill, and is now downloadable for free through the mod's official website. <br />
<br />
The download comes with four pixelated maps, five character skins and over 10 different weapon attachments based on actual powers from the <em>Mega Man</em> series. Unfortunately, these weapons can be picked up from set locations on each map -- we're not sure we'll appreciate them as much as we did when we were forced to pry them from the cold, dead hands of a bested Robot Master.<br />

The acronym "MMO" has new meaning for Capcom, which has revealed that it is working on <em>Mega Man Online</em> for PC, this according to a report by <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6261939.html">GameSpot</a>. The game is being co-developed by Korea's Neowiz Games, maker of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/free-fifa-online-kicks-off-closed-pc-beta-in-february/"><em>EA Sports FIFA Online</em></a>. There's a chance that <em>MMO </em>(see!) could be related to Capcom's recent <em>Mega Man Universe </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/27/mega-man-universe-trademark-filed-by-capcom/">trademark filing</a>, but if it is, the company isn't saying. When contacted, a rep told Joystiq, "We have no comment at this time as Capcom does not respond to rumors and/or speculation."<br />
<br />
Whatever <em>MMO </em>turns out to be, we can only hope it doesn't take after <em>Ghouls 'N Ghosts Online</em>,<em> </em>Capcom's last (and unreleased) attempt at turning one of its classic IPs into a massively multiplayer experience. It was scary ... <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqbxe2LynG4"><em>bad</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/11/mega-man-online-confirmed-for-pc/">'Mega Man Online' confirmed for PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 May 2010 19:00:00 EST. If you can set aside 90-some-odd-minutes during your oh-so-busy Saturday, we suggest you check out the entirety of Eddie Lebron's recently released, massive fan project: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/you-have-to-watch-the-mega-man-movie-trailer/"><em>Mega Man: The Movie</em></a>. Its got a level of polish we're not accustomed to seeing from most fan films -- by which we mean we can watch the entire thing without involuntarily <em>cringing our faces off</em>.<br />
<br />
The full movie is hosted for free <a href="http://screwattack.com/videos/Mega-Man">over at ScrewAttack</a>. All kidding aside, it's totally worth watching. You can really tell that a lot of hard work and love for the franchise went into the making of the film. Also, <em>a lot</em> of mustache pomade.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/08/full-length-mega-man-fan-film-now-showing-on-screwattack/">Full-length Mega Man fan film now showing on ScrewAttack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 May 2010 15:00:00 EST. Specifically, the publisher announced that the compilation of four Game Boy Advance side-scrollers will arrive in North America on June 8 for $30. That's just $7.50 per <em>Zero!</em> Additionally, a new trailer can be seen above, and the (lovely) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-zero-collection-ds/full/#2940168">box art</a> has been added to our gallery.<br />
<br />
New features in the collection include customizable controls, art gallery functionality (which displays art on the bottom screen and the game on the top screen, so you can look while you play), and a new "Easy Scenario" mode to help new players get through these difficult games.<br />

Sometimes, we wonder what it would be like if versions of ourselves from the past could be magically transported to today and have their minds blown by all the technological advances in video gaming technology. We have a feeling that they'd be disinterested in our "movement controllers" and "big definition graphicals," and would instead become entranced by a new Flash game by <a href="http://www.exploding-rabbit.com/">Exploding Rabbit</a> that's sweeping the nation at terrifying velocities: <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/534416"><em>Super Mario Crossover</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The premise of the game is simple: It is the original <em>Super Mario Bros</em>., only your choice of playable characters isn't just limited to squat, Italian plumbers. You can also wreck Goombas while playing as Link, Mega Man, Samus, Simon Belmont or Bill (you know, from <em>Contra</em>). You could also just be Mario, but why would you do that, when you could be Bill from <em>Contra</em>? Stop being so silly.<br />
<br />

Capcom just wrapped up its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/captivate-2010">Captivate 2010</a> showcase, but it appears the publisher skipped mention of one planned project: "Mega Man Universe." The title was recently filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, but details of the "goods" are currently as mysterious as Dr. Wily's sociopathic origins (though we posit his mom forced him to eat Marmite as a kid.)<br />
<br />
The <em>Mega Man Universe</em> trademark is broadly classified as "computer game software," in addition to a range of more specific classifications, including downloadable game, mobile game and screen saver -- all potential uses of a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man/"><em>Mega Man</em></a> series.<br />
<br />
<em>Mega Man Universe</em> is not definitely a new spin-off series for the franchise, however, it could also be another best-of Blue Bomber compilation, like the comprehensive <em>Mega Man Anniversary Colllection</em><em>;</em> or it could be just about <em>anything</em>. The "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/capcom-embraces-mega-mans-milking-asks-for-full-mega-man-gam/">universe</a>" encompasses <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mega_Man_games">a lot of possibilities</a>, after all.<br />

So, he's stepping into the shoes of "global head of production," with the intention of unifying the publisher's worldwide development studios, reports <a href="http://kotaku.com/5516739/mega-man-creator-to-assure-capcoms-future">Kotaku</a>. <br />
<br />
"Whether games are created in America or Japan or anywhere in the world, I will be the one overlooking it, and so it will have that Capcom flavor that fans know and love," Inafune told attendees of the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/captivate-2010">Hawaiian soir&eacute;e</a> last week. "So one of the things I want people to know is that now that I am overseeing every part of Capcom R&amp;D. You can be sure that that unified vision is going to come through in all of our titles no matter where they are created." Us? Well, we just want to see a mega blaster in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a></em>. Is that so much to ask for, Mr. Inafune? Is it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/inafune-now-capcom-global-head-of-production/">Keiji Inafune now Capcom 'global head of production'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 10:09:00 EST. Microsoft has unfurled some of its <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2010/04/06/ws186.aspx">plans</a> for Xbox Live downloadable content for April, including new additions to Games on Demand and Deals of the Week, as well as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/finally-final-fight-double-impact-arrives-april-14-and-15/">April 14th</a> release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/final-fight-double-impact">Final Fight: Double Impact</a>.</em><br />
<br />
On top of that, look for a half-priced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw"><em>The Maw</em></a> on the week of April 12 and two add-ons for <em>Mega Man 10</em> this week: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/01/wiiware-mega-man-10-gets-dlc-bass-character-on-april-5/">Bass</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/mega-man-10-special-stages-bring-back-obscure-bosses/">Special Stage 1</a>. Head past the break for the full list.<br />

For retro gaming junkies -- particularly those who love punishment -- it's pretty much a no-brainer. On the other hand, those that enjoy the simple mechanics but <em>not</em> the bone-crushing difficulty might have a harder time pulling the trigger. Thankfully, that choice is a little easier this time around than it was for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9"><em>Mega Man 9</em></a>. Unlike its 2008 predecessor, <em>Mega Man 10</em> possesses an Easy mode. While it may not take all the challenge out of the game, it definitely seems to lighten things up a bit.<br />
