The same Dynasty Warriors 6 that was the basis for Strikeforce, which came out on the PSP first and is now being ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3. This PSP version of DW6 includes elements of Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires. This isn't totally relevant to the news at hand, but it's really complicated and we're kind of proud of ourselves for (presumably) untangling it.

This latest Dynasty Warriors 6, Dynasty Warriors 6 Special, won't require users to install data to the Memory Stick, but will have benefits for those who do. If you install the 260MB data, the speech in the game will be voiced. If you don't, your allies and enemies on the battlefield will communicate via text windows.

Actually, now that we think about it, not having a thousand dudes yelling at you all the time seems a lot better. Thanks for the option, Koei!

Those who have 8GB and 16GB Memory Stick Duo cards may be experiencing issues with the handheld not recognizing that sufficient space exists when trying to download directly from the PS Store, even when you are certain that echochrome will be less than 14.1 GB. According to the Official PlayStation Blog, Sony is aware of the problem and is working on a fix in the form of Firmware 5.01 (version 5.00, which enabled the PSP to directly access the PS Store, was released last week).

No word on when the update will be available. In the meantime, if you're having trouble with the storage recognition, you can still download PSP games via the PlayStation 3 or PC PS Store, like you did in the days before 5.00 (i.e. October 13 and before).

How's that direct-connect PSP Store working out for you? What's that? You have problems downloading stuff to your 8GB or 16GB memory stick? It says there's insufficient space? But that's preposterous, there's plenty of room. That's a bug, right there. Thankfully, it hasn't gone unnoticed at Sony HQ as they're issuing a new firmware revision to fix the problem. From the sounds of it that's pretty much all version 5.01 will do when it releases "soon." Everyone thank Uncle Sony for fixing the problem so speedily. We'll be sure to notify you once the firmware update is available.

As an alternative to the UMEMD, PSPGadgetZ suggests you check out this other UMD-slot, slip-in memory stick holder for your PSP. Previously, the UMEMD could only be used inside the PSP-1000 models (fat ones); however, this new gadget can be used with both the fat and slim models. The only drawback is that this one can only hold two memory sticks -- half the UMEMD's capacity of four.

It looks like you can't currently buy this thing alone either; it comes together as part of other PSP accessories. You can check them out here and here if you're interested. There are also more pics over at PSPGadgetZ.

As tempting as it may be to drag your PlayStation 3 and 50" HDTV along on your next road trip, Sony would like you to consider a slightly more convenient and decidedly less dangerous option for watching movies on the go. In a CES demonstration of the BD Live standard (encapsulated in the upcoming Blu-Ray Profile 2.0), supported Blu-ray discs were shown to offer portable versions of the included movies for download to a Memory Stick or PlayStation Portable. Pop the disc into your PlayStation 3, connect a PSP and watch the smaller movie on your smaller screen (sans UMD).

If you're looking to take advantage of this feature in the foreseeable future, it might be wise to start saving up for one of those fancy 16GB Memory Sticks.

The march of progress continues unabated as Sony has unveiled a new 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo at CES. The PSP- and PS3-compatible proprietary storage solution will cost a whopping $300 when it comes out in March. That might seem a little steep, especially when similarly sized SD cards are half the price and available now. Still, it could be worse -- back in 1956, you'd have to pay $10,000 $50,000 (Edit: whoops. Typo) for a 5MB hard drive. So, really, this new card is a bargain!

This is the cheapest 4GB Memory Stick we've ever seen. The SanDisk 4GB Stick is an unadvertised special that's only available at brick and mortar Circuit City stores (no online shopping, sorry!). Item #SDK SDMSG4096A50 is what you'll be looking for. MXPowar from CAG gives some shopping advice for this rather lucrative deal: "In case, you are afraid of this being out of stock when you get there, I just tried this and it works, Buy it here, then choose in-store pickup and your credit card will be refunded about ~$41. A CC representative just called me about this so it is confirmed."

Sony's keen on providing Memory Stick Entertainment Packs. These bundles not only include PSP-compatible Memory Sticks (in 2GB and 4GB flavors), but include a DVD that lets you transfer one movie that's specifically encoded for playback on PSP. The videos come in 720x480 size, making them identical to their DVD counterparts.

The 2GB Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (MSX-M2GSEP3) and the 4GB Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (MSX-M4GSEP3) will be available for about $55 and $90. People will have a choice of movies on the disc, including "Click," "Ghost Rider," "RV" and "Stomp the Yard." We're not impressed.
