Hey, wait a minute... that's us! Well, we may as well handle this the same way we've been covering the video game industry for ten years.

"We do not comment on rumor and speculation," one staffer told us, wishing to remain anonymous, preparing for their lucrative PR career. Others are still trying to figure out next steps. Another anonymous staffer said, "We're still working until we can't."

Sources tell Joystiq that the staff is aware of the closure, but corporate hasn't officially told them, so they are unable to acknowledge anything out of concern that it will cause immediate shutdown. We've reached out for more information. We will update, as we always have, when we know more.

In the case of Frog Fractions developer Twinbeard, with a week left to go in its Frog Fractions 2 campaign, it opted to launch a brief adventure game called Kickstarter Simulator 2015.

Kickstarter Simulator 2015 is a browser-based "autobiographical game about running Kickstarters" that features videos of real-life friends of Frog Fractions creator Jim Crawford. Players click on the actors to keep them on track with the zany crowdfunding project so that it sees success a week from today. The point-and-click game is as quirky and hilarious as one might expect from Twinbeard, so it's worth checking out on the developer's site. The Frog Fractions 2 campaign is just under $9,000 away from its goal and ends on Wednesday, April 9.

After comparing notes over chicken and waffles, the Joystiq staff compiled their individual favorites from the industry's big show. While our scheduling makes it difficult for editors to see the same games as other staff (or every game at the show), a few heavy-hitters found their way to the top of our lists, including XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. But if the variety of our favorite games list is any indication, there's no shortage of exciting experiences on the horizon.

Let me explain.

We at Joystiq oppose the Stop Online Piracy Act -- as does our parent company AOL, who is part of a coalition who spoke out against the bill in a full-page NYT ad. In its present form, it gives control of the whole Internet to the same entertainment companies who frequently send erroneous DMCA complaints and takedown notices. It's dangerous and overreaching. Piracy is a problem, of course, but so is censorship -- and that's precisely what SOPA is. We aren't even sure it would have an effect on piracy (in fact, we know pirates are resourceful enough to get around it, meaning that censorship would be the only effect).

As journalists, we feel that the best thing we can do is to continue reporting, rather than to go silent. We'll continue informing you ... and not just about political issues that are important enough for us to be talking about them on a video game blog. About video games, too. It's what we do, as long as we still can. Our silence now could be as harmful as the forced silence we'd endure later under these laws.

If you're as concerned about this as we are -- if you use the Internet -- we urge you to contact Congress. If you're outside of the US, this affects you too, as the bill is targeted in part at "foreign sites." You can get in contact with the US State Department. You'll find forms for both of those here.

"Too much swag" might be considered an enviable problem but we don't see it that way.

That's why we really need you to come out to Engadget's NYC Reader Meetup tomorrow, at Guastavino's, 344 E 59th Street in New York City. Of course, it's a free event but, knowing how much people like free things, you may want to get there early. We can only hold 1,000 people at a time so our recommendation is: Show up by 6:30 when the doors open. Festivities are going until 10:30 so if you can't make it until later, that's okay too, but it's first-come first-served.

There's usually a general consensus among the Joystiq staff about a few standout games.

This year, however, when we compared notes and discussed our favorite games of the show over chicken and waffles, we found that every Joystiqer picked something different (there was more agreement when we asked the Massively staff to join in, but it makes sense for MMO fans to be in accord). We can't really say what that means, but it seems significant.

And so, rather than debate our way down to a few choices, we're just presenting each of our favorite games, individually. You want Joystiq's "Game of the Show"? It's ... all of these. We'd also like to call out Bloodrayne: Betrayal and Mass Effect 3, which came so close.

Joystiq admittedly went a little crazy with stories involving Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter recently. But, how can the internet blame us? The man is such an important figure. Not only to the video game industry, but to the current state of humanity. Inspired by Harmonix's Alex Navarro, the facts of Michael Pachter's importance were spoken across the Twitterverse and compiled by one Jared Newman. A small sampling:
  • When Michael Pachter gets the Red Ring of Death, he sends Microsoft a coffin.
  • Publications often misrepresent Michael Pachter as a "Wedbush Morgan Analyst." No company can contain Michael Pachter.
  • Michael Pachter willed the Dreamcast to its destruction. No one can cast dreams except Michael Pachter.
  • There is a little-known seventh ESRB rating: P. It stands for Pachter. P-rated games can only be played by the awesome.
  • Michael Pachter has learned to suppress the pon farr. He's that logical.
We hope these facts help clarify his importance. Those looking to learn more can always search Twitter for #pachterfacts. Some facts show a lack of refinement, created by jealous heathens, but many will bestow the importance of this one man. If you know more facts, please feel free to add them below. With those words, ESA senior director of communication Dan Hewitt told Joystiq's own Richard Mitchell and Alexander Sliwinski -- in jest, we should strongly note -- exactly where they could put their handful of complaints about the lack of free soda and hot water for a cuppa tea in the press room. And considering the amount of stress the man at least partially responsible for this so-far seemingly successful E3 must be under, we can understand the response. After gabbing with us for a bit more, he noted with a smile, "Don't forget, wood benches, y'all!" Oh noes! Although we were thirsty, we were certainly thankful for our plush and soft leather couches.

With most of those nasty growing pains under control - after Monday night's relaunch of Joystiq, and rebranding of the DS and Wii Fanboy sites - we're happy to let you know that you can now filter Joystiq Nintendo for Wii or DS.

How does one do it? Easy, when you see a story on Joystiq Nintendo, you'll notice it will either have a Wii tab or a DS tab (sometimes both). All you have to do is click on that tab and you'll get everything sorted for that particular platform. Only want DS news? Well, then go ahead and bookmark this link. Only want the Wii stuff? Then bookmark this link. You can subscribe to either of those links in your favorite RSS reader and absorb the site that way as well. It's that easy. And if you don't want to be bothered with scrolling down the page, you'll notice the top now has a Wii and DS tab next to the Nintendo tab. Progress, ain't it grand?

When you're viewing the front page, you'll see these tabs sprinkled throughout posts; however, when you're sorting by each platform tag (DS or Wii), then you won't see those tabs (we think that makes sense). Let us know what you think in the comments below or head past the break for a guide on using the new tabs, if all of this still seems a bit over your head.

Now that 2008 has come to a close with both team X3F and the X3F community deciding the best games of 2008, we're feeling a little '08 nostalgic for some reason. Maybe we have an attachment disorder or are just in awe of how amazing 2008 was, but whatever the case, we wanted to revisit last year. So, we dug through the official X3F statistical library and uncovered the top fifteen most trafficked stories of 2008. All of which can be viewed in their news glory after the break.

According to the traffic reports, Rock Band, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Xbox hardware revisions and NXE Avatars were all the rage in '08. Interesting stuff. Oh how we miss you already 2008. You were good to all of us, even the bad fanboys. But now, we say goodbye and welcome 2009 into our hearts as we look forward to what gaming news is yet to come.

For our fanboy friends in Europe, Canada and every other worldly place that isn't the U.S., we wish you a very happy un-Thanksgiving and hope you get a chance to participate in today's overeating ritual. Hopefully, those who are celebrating the country's birthday are among family and friends, are taking it easy (for those who have to work, we feel for you) and consuming all kinds of semi-charred grilled foods. And here's to hoping that the weather cooperates, allowing you to get outdoors, enjoy life outside the Xbox 360 and watch some fireworks. Though, if the weather or annoying family members prevent you from viewing the fireworks spectacle, we fully support your decision to use Boom Boom Rocket as a substitute. In our eternal quest to bring our readers (that's you!) the latest and greatest in internet technologies (these tubes don't run themselves, after all), Xbox 360 Fanboy is proud to announce the arrival of our new and improved gallery system. Our new gallery system supports higher resolutions and allows users to leave comments on individual images. In the standard view, a low resolution image appears on the left side of the screen with the description on the right. But, if you click "Hi-Res" on the upper right, you'll be taken to the full resolution version of the image. Seriously, on a scale of one to ten, how cool is that? The change is retroactive to all of our previous galleries, so if you want to leave a comment about, say, our Game Fuel gallery, you can! To celebrate, we advise taking a stroll through Xbox.com's Valentine's coverage, spending some quality video game time with a loved one and eating heart shaped sugar cookies until your stomach aches with sugary pain love. We know we'll be celebrating (and spending lots of money) this Valentine's Day with our sweethearts as we promise to be the most caring, thoughtful and supportive bloggers we can be. We also promise, for at least today, to ease up a little on both Xav and Terrence, the new guys. Hopefully they know that both Richard and I constantly nag, ritually yell and make unfair demands only because we care and want them to succeed. Because, deep down, we love our Xav, Terrence and all of you that make the X3F community the best group of 360 supporters on the net. Happy Valentine's Day guys ... now let's gorge on chocolates!

Both our main RSS news feed as well as the RSS Fancast feed (including both iTunes and the Zune Marketplace) should be working smoothly now, so be happy and go about your normal RSS activities. But if by chance we overlooked an issue or if you spot an RSS gnome lurking, please tell us about it and we'll work on a fix. Just DO NOT feed them chocolate, because you'll only create more headaches. Thanks for your patience and happy RSS'ing!

We thought it prudent to let everyone know that the Xbox 360 Fanboy RSS feed is broken. Rest assured that we are aware of the problem and doing everything we can to fix it. Unfortunately, many people in the Joystiq network are still on holiday vacation, so it may be a while before a proper fix is in place. We are aware of it though. In the meantime, we apologize for all the extra work that goes into visiting our (fabulous) website in the traditional manner.

Many of you have already noticed, but we figured it's probably protocol to announce that we have a new comment system. Those of you that hang out on Joystiq should already have a pretty good idea of how it works, but here's a quick rundown.
  • Your comments will now feature your avatar image. If you haven't already set up an avatar, you can do so by clicking your user name in any of your comments. This will take you to a profile page where you can log in with your password (which can be found in comment confirmation emails if you don't already have one). Here you can edit some personal info and upload an avatar.
  • Comments can now be voted up or down. Positively rated comments will become more visible, while negatively rated comments will become less visible. See a thoughtful, well-written comment? Vote it up! Do you see a hateful, irrelevant piece of garbage that should be expunged from all the internets? Vote that sucker down! You can also report comments that may be inappropriate.
  • Finally, you can now reply directly to individual comments, which will make conversations (and flame wars) flow much more naturally.
There you have it folks, a comment system with personality, flair, and usability. Enjoy. Oh, and feel free to ask questions about the new system (or just try it out) on this post.

If you live in the Santa Monica area or if you're in town for E3, be sure to take time to attend the X3F / Joystiq reader meetup. This will be our first meetup EVAR, so we want to make it extra special for those who attend. There will be free food and drinks, and the first to show up will receive free Joystiq T-shirts. Not only that but we'll be giving away lots of spiffy swag that we've accumulated this week. If you've got the time, we'd love to see you there. It's an all ages event, so don't hesitate to bring the tykes.
