After SNK announced the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/07/snk-announces-metal-slug-xx-three-more-for-xbla-in-japan/">way back in December</a>, it looks like <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/metal-slug-xx"><em>Metal Slug XX</em></a> has an official release date on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">XBLA</a> ... in Japan at least. According to <a href="http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/m/metalslugxxxbla/">Xbox.com Japan</a>, <em>Metal Slug XX</em> (an upgraded port of <em>Metal Slug 7</em>) is set to arrive next Wednesday, May 19. It's important to note that release dates are not always worldwide, so it's possible that the game will be released later in other regions. At the very least, it appears that the game is ready to go, so hopefully we'll be seeing it sooner rather than later.<br />

Of course, there's also a vocal community crying out against the terrible process of franchise-milking, demanding fresh characters and fresher concepts. Every year there are a few surprisingly original titles from the big studios. This year EA has been surpringly generous with new IPs, publishing heavy-hitters like <em>Mirror's Edge</em> and <em>Dead Space</em>. In the past, we've gotten gems like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/born-for-wii-beyond-good-and-evil/"><em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil</em></a> and<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zack-and-wiki/">Zack &amp; Wiki</a></em>. Unfortunately, as we all know, new franchises mean new risks, and they don't always sell as well as they deserve.<br /><br />Last generation, few games exemplified this tragic situation more than <em>Metal Arms: Glitch in the System</em>. Created by Swingin' Ape Studios, this wonderfully charming and surprisingly deep third-person shooter would be the developer's only project -- though they started work on the infamous <em>Starcraft Ghost</em>, they were eventually absorbed by Blizzard, and the game eventually disappeared. For whatever reason -- poor advertising, unappealing box art, or bad timing -- <em>Metal Arms</em> was overlooked by many a gamer. Those who gave it a chance discovered a lengthy quest chock full of hilarious characters, a genuinely original world, and a veritable ton of weapons, and that's why <em>Glitch in the System</em> is this week's game that's <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/category/born-for-wii/">Born for Wii</a>.<br /><br /> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center>

We know you're keen to see what super spy Sam Fisher was up to before he started <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/sam-fisher-shows-his-softer-side/">digging Linkin Park CDs into his wrists</a>, so we wholeheartedly suggest you check out what many consider to be his best espionage entry, <em>Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory</em>. And if you absolutely can't find it on Xbox for less than 15 bucks, know that it's now available on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-originals">Xbox Originals</a> download service.<br />
<br />
If you'd rather not choke terrorists or contemplate why <em>nobody</em> can see a man with a Christmas tree on his head, <em>Metal Arms: Glitch in the System </em>should provide your "shoot first, shoot some more and then forget what you were going to ask" fix. Other fixes include (but are not limited to) "robots," "gun-toting robots" and "gun-toting robots shooting gun-toting robots." It's $15 (1,200 MS Points) for this one too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/splinter-cell-chaos-theory-metal-arms-now-available-on-xbox-or/">Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Metal Arms now available on Xbox Originals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Apr 2008 21:30:00 EST. And because it's an icky Monday and we're feeling crabby, we have to mention that that these and all Xbox Originals titles do not feature any achievements OR come with paper manuals. Major Nelson <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/04/15/coming-to-xbox-originals-spliter-cell-ct-and-metal-arms.aspx">informs</a> that secret agent Sam Fisher and some robots have been discovered covertly trying to sneak onto the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-originals">Xbox Originals</a> lineup. <em>Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory</em> and <em>Metal Arms: Glitch in the System</em> will be available for 1200 MS points ($15) a piece beginning next Monday (except in Korea and Japan).<br />

On Monday, April 21st, both Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/splintercellchaostheory/"><em>Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory</em></a> and <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/m/metalarms/"><em>Metal Arms: Glitch In The System</em></a> will be available for purchase off the XBLM for the standard 1200 Microsoft point price. So ... yup, more Xbox Originals titles next week ... what more <strike>achievement complaining</strike> can be said?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/xbox-originals-to-add-splinter-cell-and-metal-arms/">Xbox Originals to add Splinter Cell and Metal Arms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Apr 2008 14:15:00 EST. Listed are the current crop of games available like <em>Burnout 3: Takedown</em>, <em>Fuzion Frenzy</em> and upcoming titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/new-xbox-originals-ninja-gaiden-black-sid-meiers-pirates-and/"><em>Ninja Gaiden: Black</em></a>. Suspiciously on that list were a few other gems that look like they'll be getting the Xbox Originals treatment, including: <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=dead+or+alive+3&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch"><em>Dead or Alive 3</em></a>, <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=metal+arms&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch"><em>Metal Arms</em></a> and <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=raze+hell&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch"><em>Raze's Hell</em></a>. Other listings found were <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=Ultra+Bust+a+Move&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch"><em>Ultra Bust-a-Move</em></a> and <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=Guilty+Gear+X2+Reload&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch"><em>Guilty Gear X2 #Reload</em></a>, however there are rumblings that these titles could be full fledged XBLA games. Rumor mill for the time being, but time will tell.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/rumor-esrb-lists-more-xbox-originals/">Rumor: ESRB lists more Xbox Originals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 17:15:00 EST.
