If you're also one of those people looking forward to grabbing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/zone-of-the-enders-hd-collection"><em>Zone of the Enders HD Collection</em></a>, Konami has some synergy planned.<br /><br />During <a href="http://events.konami.com/">Konami's pre-E3 press briefing</a>, Hideo Kojima revealed an early-access demo for Metal Gear Rising: Reveangence would be included with <em>Zone of the Enders HD Collection</em>. He didn't go into any details about how players will access the demo, but at least we know the important first step: you have to buy <em>Zone of the Enders HD Collection</em>. PSN and Xbox Live users will be able to access the same demo at a later date.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/01/early-access-metal-gear-rising-demo-included-with-zone-of-the-en/">Early access Metal Gear Rising demo included with Zone of the Enders HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jun 2012 02:03:00 EST. While we still think it's too early to get our hopes up, it appears that the new Platinum version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising</em></a> will achieve what the Kojima Productions version never could: a playable demo. In a Famitsu magazine interview summarized by <a href="http://andriasang.com/comzof/mgrising_e3/">Andriasang</a>, Hideo Kojima revealed that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be playable at E3 this year.<br />
<br />
As you may have expected, the stealth element is no longer present in <em>Revengeance</em>. In the interview, Platinum CEO Tatsuya Minami said that stealth was the first element to go when Platinum took over. Kojima now says he never wanted stealth in there.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Additional <a href="http://andriasang.com/comzop/mg_rising_director/">excerpts</a> from the article reveal <em>Bayonetta</em> main programmer Kenji Saito as <em>Rising's</em> director. <em>Bayonetta</em> director Hideki Kamiya is not involved.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/18/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-playable-at-e3/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance playable at E3 [update: Kenji Saito directing]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jan 2012 10:30:00 EST. Platinum Games, the wordsmiths behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bayonetta"><em>Bayonetta</em></a>, moved its offices down <em>one entire</em> floor in Japan's Umeda Sky Building, from the ninth to the eighth, and took the opportunity to remodel its layout. The new Platinum offices have color-coded conference rooms. Personally, we like the vibe in the Red Room, probably because we can picture ourselves sitting across from Don Draper, drinking scotch on the rocks while our children grow up without us.<br />
<br />
The move keeps Platinum's open-floor layout, a library with reference books on cats and a stunning view of downtown Osaka. We'll see how the new office works out for Platinum with the release of <em>Revengeance</em>, supposedly some time this year. <em>Metal Gear Solid </em>creator Hideo Kojima and Platinum Games producer Atsushi Inaba took the stage at Konami's offices here in Los Angeles earlier this week for a <em>mea culpa</em> of sorts: Kojima now admits that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a>, though it may have looked nice in the trailer back at E3 2010, just wasn't working.<br />
<br />
"In the summer of 2010, the team made a presentation for me," he recounted through a translator, "and I realized the game design still wasn't there yet." The team's vision was split between stealth and action, the idea of "cut everything" worked technically but made for gameplay that was too open-ended, and the game just wasn't fun, says Kojima. "As the young staff said to me, they wanted a good game that just felt good moving around, and we would never get that, so I decided to cancel the project."<br />
<br />
"But still, we had a lot of things" that could still be used, says Kojima. "Motion capture, a lot of good story, the view of the world inside the game, and I wanted to use that somehow. I wanted <em>Rising</em> to be born again, so that's when I decided to contact Platinum Games."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3/ Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss01-1323583729_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss02-1323583737_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss03-1323583742_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss04-1323583745_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss05-1323583749_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/13/hideo-kojima-gets-his-revengeance-with-metal-gear-rising/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hideo Kojima gets his Revengeance with Metal Gear Rising</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/13/hideo-kojima-gets-his-revengeance-with-metal-gear-rising/">Hideo Kojima gets his Revengeance with Metal Gear Rising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:31:00 EST. Having relaunched <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising</em></a> as a full-on action game under the supervision of Platinum Games, Konami has taken the opportunity to freshen up its <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> series <a href="http://metalgearsolid.com/">website</a>. In addition to a bunch of media for each game, and, of course, purchase links, the new site offers an <a href="http://www.metalgearsolid.com/app/webroot/timeline/">interactive timeline</a> of highlights from the games, along with real-world events that are referenced in their labyrinthine, impenetrable plots.<br />
<br />
A quick warning: all the old<em> Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em> media is still <a href="http://www.metalgearsolid.com/media">on the site</a>, now labeled with <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em>'s title. If you're watching a trailer and there are watermelons or "Zan-Datsu" ... that's the old game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/12/metal-gear-solid-website-provides-handy-timeline-of-many-confusi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Solid website provides handy timeline of many confusing events</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/12/metal-gear-solid-website-provides-handy-timeline-of-many-confusi/">Metal Gear Solid website provides handy timeline of many confusing events</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 19:00:00 EST. We hadn't heard any official news on <em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/metal-gear-solid-rising-to-cut-through-the-third-dimension/">over a year</a>, and then it showed up with a new name, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/11/metal-gear-risings-story-revised-now-set-post-mgs4/">new storyline</a>, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/just-like-we-said-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-developed-by-p/">new team</a> making it. You don't have to be part of a secret cabal of world-dominating AIs to realize that there was some ... trouble somewhere in the last year. And, in fact, <em>Rising</em> had been <em>canceled</em>.<br />
<br />
The staff at Kojima Productions had the "cut anything" concept realized, according to <a href="http://andriasang.com/comzba/mg_rising_details/">Andriasang's</a> report of the latest Hideraji podcast. They also had the motion capture done and a story written ... but the rest was in the air. Without a clearer direction, Kojima decided to end development.<br />
<br />
Platinum Games studio reps happened to visit, the story goes, and expressed their excitement for the project, leading to their assignment to complete the game. It was Platinum's idea to change the story, and they also offered the concept of "a game where it feels so good to chop things up that you would die," as Andriasang translates it. We think that's a more promising concept than a game where it feels good to chop things up, and then the <em>game</em> dies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/12/metal-gear-rising-was-secretly-canceled-before-platinum-took-it/">Metal Gear Rising was secretly canceled before Platinum took it on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 10:26:00 EST. The newly Platinum-plated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/just-like-we-said-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-developed-by-p/"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> features a story different from the one planned for the old <em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em>. While the game was originally intended to take place between <em>Metal Gear Solids 2</em> and <em>4</em>, the setting has now been transfarred to a time years after MGS4. This was done in order to let Platinum "show off what they can bring to the series." Without creating a time paradox and accidentally undoing the events of <em>MGS4</em>, we suppose.<br />
<br />
Raiden joins up with private military companies for various jobs including "VIP protection, military training and other duties" as an unspecified country rebuilds from a civil war. "Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs."<br />
<br />
This information comes via the <a href="http://www.konami.jp/mgr/en_us/index.html">official site</a>, which is also the source for the new screens in our gallery. The site provides a detailed listing of staff for the title, including Platinum's Atsushi Inaba (the guy on stage with Kojima) as producer alongside Konami's Yuji Korekado. It could stand to be more detailed, as there's no <em>game director</em> listed.<br />
<br />
Konami still has some revealing to do: the site claims that a video interview titled "The Truth Behind RISING" will explain the genesis of the Platinum/Kojipro collaboration, on December 13.<br />
<br />
By the way, the site lists only PS3 and Xbox 360 releases -- no PC. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/">Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3/ Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss01-1323583729_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss02-1323583737_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss03-1323583742_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss04-1323583745_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-rising-revengeance-ps3-xbox-360/#4672188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/ss05-1323583749_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/11/metal-gear-risings-story-revised-now-set-post-mgs4/">Metal Gear Rising's story revised, now set post-MGS4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 11 Dec 2011 01:15:00 EST. Konami's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em></a> is now Platinum Game's <em>Metal Gear Rising: Reveangeance</em>, just as we were lead to believe by the trailer that leaked <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/metal-gear-rising-developed-by-platinum-games/">earlier today</a>. Raiden, apparently channeling his unstoppable child soldier roots, has gone fully cyborg ninja in order to hack, slash and grotesquely dismember every single thing that exists.<br />

We're not going to lie, the idea of taking a RAY model Metal Gear head on with a robotic lightning sword makes us tingle in very specific, covert places.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/just-like-we-said-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-developed-by-p/">Just like we said, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance developed by Platinum Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Dec 2011 22:14:00 EST. The latest trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a> (now totally and completely <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em>) has leaked <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=455114">onto NeoGAF</a> ahead of tonight's anticipated Spike VGA reveal, and <em>boy</em> does it ever reveal stuff, primarily that the title is being developed by the over-the-top action aficionados responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bayonetta"><em>Bayonetta</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/platinum-games">Platinum Games</a>. The trailer also looks much more like an actual game than previous footage we've seen from Konami in the past. We're sure more will be revealed during tonight's VGAs.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: To clarify the blatant <em>lack</em> of a trailer above this post, here's the poop: This was a leak, meaning that no one was supposed to see the trailer or glean information from its sparkly vissage until later tonight, during its official reveal at the Spike TV VGAs. If the suspense is <em>literally killing you</em>, you might be able to find a copy of it on YouTube or other streaming sites, but know that uploads we've seen have disappeared as fast as we found them. We will, of course, be posting the trailer in the highest possible quality once it is "officially" released later tonight.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/metal-gear-rising-developed-by-platinum-games/">Metal Gear Solid Rising now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, developed by Platinum Games [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Dec 2011 16:15:00 EST. There's an unusually high concentration of Metal Gear(?!) buzzing around the industry right now: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/deja-review-metal-gear-solid-hd-collection/"><em>Metal Gear Solid HD Collection</em></a> is upscaling its way through living rooms the world over, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a>'s production continues, once again under the watchful eye of series progenitor Hideo Kojima. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/kojima-on-mgs5-well-probably-have-to-make-it-at-some-point/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 5</em></a> is even closer to being a thing now, but what about Kojima's other <em>other</em> baby, Project Ogre?<br />
<br />
"I can't really say too much about that project yet, but it's a very subdued experience," Kojima said during an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK. "It's a little bit different to what I've done up until now. On the surface it will look similar, but once you get into it, it will be a different experience."<br />
<br />
Announcements like this always get our blood pumping. Metal Gear set in medieval times? <em>Zone of the Ogres</em>? Whatever Project Ogre is, we at least know that it's a long way off: "The Ogre project is going to take a lot of time, so I want to produce some other things on the side, like I'm doing with Rising."<br />
<br />
Oh! Dude. <em>Policenaogres</em>. Think about it, Kojima.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/26/kojimas-project-ogre-will-be-different-but-not-anytime-soon/">Kojima's 'Project Ogre' will be different, but not anytime soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 13:30:00 EST. Team members at Kojima Productions continue to play Hot Potato with poor Raiden's emotions. After Kojima announced in June of 2010 that he was passing the reigns of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising">Metal Gear Solid: Rising</a></em> to Shigenobu Matsuyama, control has now passed to Yuji Korekado (who's also working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/zone-of-the-enders-hd"><em>Zone of the Enders HD</em></a>). The news was confirmed via <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/Ken1555/status/137000002881990658">the Twitter feed</a> of Kojima Productions producer Kenichiro Imaizumi.<br />
<br />
The announcement raises a lot of pressing questions, not the least of which are these: "Joystiq, how did you spell all those names correctly on the first try and without any sort of reference material?" Please, please. We appreciate the flattery, but we're professionals. This is what we do.<br />
<br />
With any luck, we'll have a better idea of the direction Korekado is taking the game when it's shown off at this year's VGAs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/metal-gear-solid-rising-gets-new-producer/">Metal Gear Solid: Rising gets new producer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 10:15:00 EST. Geoff Keighley has begun ramping up the excitement for the VGA show coming December 10, revealing some of the surprises coming up at the Spike event -- but, of course, only enough that they'll still be surprises.<br />
<br />
"<em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/alan-wake">Alan Wake</a></em> returns," he tweeted, "and BioWare unveils a new game from a new studio." In addition, Hideo Kojima will <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/geoffkeighley/status/132144779990540288">reveal</a> "the truth about <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em></a>." Man, remember <em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em>?<br />
<br />
Keighley isn't hogging all the exclusives for Spike, having graciously shared "teaser images" of the new announcements with Game Informer, who is itself no stranger to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/rainbow-6-patriots-revealed-by-next-months-game-informer-cover/">exclusives</a>, for the December issue. Rest assured, we'll get you all the info as soon as the game media's "1%" allow it to trickle down to your prole pals at Joystiq.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/new-alan-wake-bioware-game-and-mgs-rising-details-at-vgas/">New Alan Wake, BioWare game, and MGS Rising details at VGAs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 14:00:00 EST. Kojima Productions head honcho Hideo Kojima took to his company's <a href="http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/radio/hideradio_0293.mp3">official podcast</a> to address some rumors surrounding his ongoing projects. Rather than elaborating on fans' questions (and potentially spoil Konami's long-term marketing plans), Kojima simply delivered either "Yes" or "No" answers (summed up by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/27/kojima_questions/">Andriasang</a>).<br />
<br />
First up: He won't be making any big splashes at next month's E3, (that's a "no"), but he did confirm that there are big plans afoot for next year's 25th anniversary of <em>Metal Gear.</em><br />
<br />
Before you get too excited, he also shot down the dream of a <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> port to NGP, and offered another "No" when asked if <em>MGS5</em> would be announced next month. As for the 3DS port of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d">Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater,</a> </em>"yes," it'll arrive by year's end.<br />
<br />
Finally, he noted that we won't see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising'</em></a>s multiplayer anytime soon, never mind at Microsoft's E3 presser (where he will not appear). Now we're hoping that Kojima's big surprise for next year is reversing all of this year's "No" answers.<br />

<strong>Snake: </strong><em>Metal Gear!</em><br />
<strong>Otacon:</strong> Right, Snake, people to work on the next generation of <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> games.<br />
<strong>Snake:</strong> Next-generation special forces?!<br />
<strong>Otacon: </strong>Well, I guess you could call them that. Konami is hiring designers, programmers and artists.<br />
<strong>Snake: </strong>They're building an army!<br />
<strong>Otacon: </strong>They could just need some additional staff to work on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising">Metal Gear Solid: Rising</a></em>, Snake. You remember, the one starring Raiden.<br />
<strong>Snake:</strong> Raiden!<br />

While <em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em> may be coming to both platforms, it'll be available in 3D on the PlayStation 3. Imagine: the gore, the body parts and the watermelons that could be flying out of your fancy 3DTV screen!<br />
<br />
In addition to <em>Rising</em>, a number of other games were shown in 3D at Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference, including <em>Final Fantasy 14</em> and <em>Hot Shots Golf 5</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/metal-gear-solid-rising-to-cut-through-the-third-dimension/">Metal Gear Solid Rising to cut through the third dimension</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Sep 2010 00:34:00 EST. Of course, those<em> Metal Gear Solid</em> games in which it was possible to do that also had tranquilizer guns. Does Raiden have a tranquilizer ... sword?<br />
<br />
"When you encounter human resistance you can slice their weapons in half, causing them to run away in fear," <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1114418p1.html">IGN</a> explains. "If you accidentally slice off a hand or two, well, that will be forgiven, we are told." So even if you choose to play that way, you still get to slice a lot of things with your sword. That's a relief! The game is also full of mechanical enemies and watermelons, which can all be safely sliced without damaging your no-kill status.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/19/metal-gear-solid-rising-doesnt-cut-out-pacifist-play-style/">Metal Gear Solid Rising doesn't cut out pacifist play style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 13:15:00 EST. With a new development team at the helm and an emphasis on fluid action,<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"> Metal Gear Solid: Rising </a></em>is being positioned as a new standard in the long-running franchise. Shigenobu Matsuyama, creative producer for Kojima Productions, told journalists at a <em>Rising</em> roundtable discussion during E3 that the game would be a counterpart to Hideo Kojima's <em>Metal Gear Solid </em>legacy, with possible future installments going "back and forth" between Rising and more traditional <em>Metal Gear</em> games. <br />
<br />
"But for Rising, we're gonna position it where people might know Metal Gear Solid, but they were reluctant to buy it," Matsuyama said. "[They might say],'Stealth is not my style,' or they didn't have the hardware because they only had a 360. We would like to target this audience where it's kind of potential Metal Gear Solid users and again, as I said earlier, the story will be based between MGS2 and MGS4." He added that players who were not familiar with the franchise's Byzantine plot would still be able to become involved and have fun with the game's "Zan-Datsu" cutting concept.<br />
<br />
"'Zan' means to cut, and 'Datsu' means to take," explained game director Mineshi Kimura. "We probably would offer a more wide range of play style so that you can aim where you want to cut and how deep you want to cut in order to achieve what you want to take. Apparently devoid of geriatric spy guys, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising">Metal Gear Solid: Rising</a></em> sees the once-loathed Raiden liberating glowing cyber-spines from felled foes. And that's cool and all, but did you know that you can cut a guy in half <em>while you're cutting him in half</em>?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/metal-gear-solid-rising-trailer-is-packed-with-cut-scenes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising trailer is packed with cut scenes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/metal-gear-solid-rising-trailer-is-packed-with-cut-scenes/">Metal Gear Solid: Rising trailer is packed with cut scenes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 02:30:00 EST. Kojima Productions can make some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/review-metal-gear-solid-peace-walker/">excellent games</a> but its countdowns are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/21/kojima-countdown-reveals-another-countdown/">transcendent</a>. Continuing an annual tradition, Hideo and company have opened yet another <a href="http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2010/">mysterious E3 countdown</a>, this time teasing images of various foods being chopped. Perhaps the imagery of foods is supposed to represent the hunger gamers have for exciting revelations from the trade show. Or maybe the use of knives is symbolic of the lighting bolt action waiting to be discovered in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a>. Or maybe, just maybe, Kojima is set to unveil his next project: <em>Cooking Mama 4: Mama's Revenge</em>, the franchise's first M-rated entry.<br />

"<span>The production lines within Kojima Productions are currently full," Hideo Kojima writes on the <a href="http://ameblo.jp/kp-blogcast/entry-10366236399.html"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em> blog</a>. The candid comments, translated by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/10/16/kojima_promises_zoe_sequel/">Andriasang</a>, spring from the designer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/15/hideo-kojima-wants-a-new-zone-of-the-enders/">recently expressed desire to return</a> to the <em>Zone of the Enders</em> universe -- someday. Clogged by large, anticipated titles like the aforementioned <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Peace Walker</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em></a>, the Kojima Productions pipeline doesn't have the room to support the fan-requested sequel. But there's plenty of room in the revered designer's head.<br /><br />"</span><span>I already have a game plan and method for sales in my head," Kojima says before concluding, "</span><span>I cannot make a promise about time. However, I can promise a sequel." While far from seeing the green light, a new<em> Zone of the Enders</em> would seek to obtain a level of success the previous game missed out on, just as it missed a more profitable release window. "</span><span>At that time, if I hadn't made a mistake with the release date, <span style="font-style: italic;">Anubis </span>[as <span style="font-style: italic;">ZOE 2 </span>is known in Japan] might have ended up a major Kojima Productions title to follow MGS, still seeing development as a series." How frustrating -- if only that considerable retconning power could be put to use outside of the <em>Metal Gear</em> mythology.<br /></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/kojima-has-plan-for-zoe-sequel-but-lacks-production-line/">Kojima has plan for ZOE sequel, but lacks production line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 18:00:00 EST. <div align="left">If you've been wondering why <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hideo-kojima">Hideo Kojima</a> has been spending nearly all his interview time as of late talking up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker">Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</a> </em>and <em>not</em> the console-bound <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid <strike>Raiden</strike> Rising</em></a>, it's probably because the latter's presently a bit of an experiment-in-progress. "We're at an experiment level right now. We're doing a lot of experiments for <em>Rising,</em>" Kojima told <a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/211903/kojima-peace-walker-and-rising-teams-are-not-good-friends/">GamePro</a> during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2009">GamesCom</a>. It is, after all, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/kojima-says-mgs-peace-walker-is-his-mgs5-calls-rising-a-diffe/">promised to deliver</a> a "different kind of action" for the series.<br /><br />From the sound of his subsequent statements, the experimentation goes beyond the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/metal-gear-solid-rising-getting-re-done-graphics-engine/">all-new graphics engine</a> planned for the title and into the realm of overall development philosophy for the legend's studio. "Even the management and team formations that we have at Kojima Productions, we are changing this around," he said, adding, "The core of it is, of course, the <em>Rising</em> team. They're doing a lot of high-level stuff with great staffs."<br /><br />And no, that last line isn't Kojima's way of saying <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/metal-gear-solid-rising-confirmed-for-ps3/">the game's "young" team</a> is actually spending all its time playing <em><a href="http://wow.com">World of Warcraft</a>.</em> (We hope.)<br /><br /></div>

During an interview with <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/hideo-kojima-gamescom-2009-interview">Eurogamer</a>, <em>Metal Gear</em> creator Hideo Kojima expressed a similar sentiment. "Actually, strange you ask, because I personally get confused too about the whole timeline and saga of <em>Metal Gear Solid,</em>" Kojima said when asked about organizing his thoughts (which become the games' head-scratching reality). "This is especially tricky when you create the future first and then go back in time to create something new. There are a lot of small aspects where sometimes it doesn't match completely."<br /><br />On the subject of <em>the future</em>, Kojima explained that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a> is a good fit for younger KojiPro staff, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Peace Walker</em></a> requires the Kojima Touch(R). "The younger staff couldn't really understand [<em>Peace Walker</em>'s] background, and since I made the concept and overall storyline, I thought that I would go more deeply in, because for me it was more understandable a setting." <em>Rising</em>, however, is a new story set in the future, without so much influence from Kojima's existing storyline.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/21/confused-about-metal-gear-solids-timeline-so-is-hideo-kojima/">Confused about Metal Gear Solid's timeline? Remember when Kojima's countdown ended ... and started <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/21/kojima-countdown-reveals-another-countdown/">another countdown</a>? Man, that was fun! The creator of the <em>Metal Gear</em> series seemingly had a big laugh as he teased gamers all the way to his E3 announcements: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker/"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em></a> for PSP, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em></a> for PS3 and Xbox 360, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castlevania-lords-of-shadow"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</em></a>.<br /><br />As the countdown continued, the site featured a number of symbols that flashed on the screen. Many of you attempted to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/17/kojima-website-updates-with-countdown-and-mysterious-5/#comments">break the code</a> ... but were you successful? Kojima just revealed what each of those symbols was supposed to mean:<br />

Someday, we'll talk about third-party exclusives like the way we talk about car phones, Laserdiscs and troll dolls -- a thing of the past. That someday could be <em>sooner than you think,</em> if Microsoft exec Shane Kim is to be believed. "[Microsoft has] said for a long time that a key part of our strategy with Xbox 360 was a level third-party playing field," Kim tells <a href="http://gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24058">Gamasutra</a> in a recent interview. "Now we've effectively done that with <em>Metal Gear Solid [Rising]</em> coming to the Xbox 360."<br /><br />Short of a blank check from Microsoft or Sony -- like, what was the asking price for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/sony-introduces-rockstars-agent-as-a-ps3-exclusive/"><em>Agent</em> exclusivity</a>, you know? -- there's little incentive for a third-party publisher to release a big-budget game for only Xbox 360 or PS3. It's possible that third-party exclusives will flourish as small, downloadable games and DLC (though those <em>GTA IV</em> add-ons weren't cheap for Microsoft), but it's more likely that they'll diminish as cheap <em>carnival games</em> -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/carnival-games/">geddit?</a> Of course, with Microsoft and Sony designing their own waggleware apparatuses, such low-grade third-party exclusives won't necessarily continue to be exclusive, either.<br /><br />Still, Kim argues that "exclusive content is really important." And so, it's up to the first-party publishers to essentially <em>unlevel</em> the playing field with their own IPs. "[It's] really not about relying on third parties, because I don't think that that is sustainable, as we've proven," Kim concludes. "And it's up to each of us to differentiate on our own."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/mgs-rising-levels-third-party-playing-field-microsofts-kim-dec/">MGS Rising levels third-party playing field, Microsoft's Kim declares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 11:45:00 EST. Despite stating that he would be more hands-off with the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=metal+gear+solid">Metal Gear Solid</a> </em>games after the fourth installment, Kojima has decided to once again roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em></a>. Speaking with Japanese mag Famitsu (via <a href="http://www.psphyper.com/psp/peace-walker-the-mgs5-of-hideo-kojima/#more-7039">PSPHyper</a>), the gaming icon has said that <em>Peace Walker</em> will pretty much be his <em>MGS5</em> -- something that will likely be excellent news to every Genome soldier reading this very post -- and that the <em>MGS4</em> team will be working on it. (For some new <em>Peace Walker</em> screens, fresh out of Kojima Productions, check out our gallery embedded below). <br /><br />Moving on to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em></a>, Kojima says the game will include "a completely different kind of action than what has appeared in the series so far," though we're not sure if that's a good or bad thing. He also mentioned that he will be involved with the project "more deeply" than a normal producer which, considering the expectations and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/metal-gear-solid-rising-getting-re-done-graphics-engine/">new engine involved</a>, makes sense. <br /><br />The implicit bad news here: With all this <em>Metal Gear</em> stuff taking up Kojima's time (not to mention <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow/">Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</a>), we're unlikely to see that rumored <em>Snatcher </em>and/or <em>Zone of the Enders </em>and/or <em>Something Else</em> title anytime soon.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.psphyper.com/psp/peace-walker-the-mgs5-of-hideo-kojima/#more-7039">Source</a> - <em>Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker</em> details<br /><a href="http://www.gamercenteronline.net/2009/06/12/kojima-wants-to-teach-youth-about-the-cold-war-and-the-love-box/">Source</a> - Kojima discusses <em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em> [via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/kojima-working-deeply-on-mgs-rising">Eurogamer</a>]<br />

Like a case of bad allergies, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-4">Metal Gear Solid 4</a>'s</em> graphics left us rubbing our eyes. That said, when it comes to developing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/metal-gear-solid-rising-confirmed-for-ps3/">recently unveiled</a> <em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em>, the latest sequel's eye candy is not nearly sweet <em>enough</em>. <br /><br />According to Kojima Productions assistant producer Sean Eyestone, the team is remaking <em>Rising</em>'s engine "from scratch" to make it look better than <em>MGS4</em>. Speaking during a recent <a href="http://www.kjp.konami.jp/gs/hideoblog_e/2009/06/000180.html#more">Kojima Productions podcast</a>, Eyestone describes the multiplatform project as "a big project like <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em>," adding that the team "team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform." Let's just hope our meager eyes can take it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174766">1UP</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/metal-gear-solid-rising-getting-re-done-graphics-engine/">Metal Gear Solid Rising getting re-done graphics engine </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Jun 2009 20:30:00 EST. E3 was <em>br&uuml;tal!</em> If you blinked, for a <span style="font-style: italic;">split/second,</span> you missed something. Even if you were <span style="font-style: italic;">trine</span> to keep up, it was a <span style="font-style: italic;">blur</span> -- staying <span style="font-style: italic;">a.wake</span> like that, you only pushed yourself to the <span style="font-style: italic;">brink</span> of your own <span style="font-style: italic;">dark void</span>. That's where Joystiq comes in; to <span style="font-style: italic;">crackdown</span> on the madness; to <span style="font-style: italic;">reach</span> out ... with <em>conviction</em> -- phew! <span style="font-style: italic;">Crysis</span> averted.<br />
<br />
We've scoured the <span style="font-style: italic;">dark corners</span> and survived the <span style="font-style: italic;">inferno</span> to piece together this roundup of all things Xbox at E3. Why? <span style="font-style: italic;">Just 'cause</span> we love you. During Konami's E3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/joystiq-live-from-konamis-e3-2009-keynote/">press conference</a> today, Kojima confirmed assumptions that <em>Metal Gear Solid Rising</em> will be multiplatform, now announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/metal-gear-solid-rising-coming-to-xbox-360/">for Xbox 360</a> <em>and</em> PlayStation 3 <em>and</em> PC. Kojima also shed some light on the mysteries of "lightning bolt action," calling <em>Rising</em> an experiment in building technology first, and then delivering new content based on it. A team of new, "young" staff will produce the project.<br /><br />Additionally, Kojima revealed the significance of the storm teaser from his website. Contrary to your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/kojima-theories-solid-funs-of-the-patriots/">seemingly acute</a> observations, the storm symbolizes the current economic situation, and the entertainment business is the force that will "clear up the storm." Shucks. That was so going to be our <em>next</em> guess!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/metal-gear-solid-rising-confirmed-for-ps3/">'!' Konami's press event won't start until June 3rd, but it looks like some of the company's line-up may already been spoiled. A seemingly careless listing on <a href="http://gamespress.com/publisher.asp?n=Kojima+Productions">Gamespress</a> (a resource for video game-related press releases) suggests that two of Konami/Kojima Production's new titles could be <em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em> for PSP and <em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</em> for Xbox 360 and PS3.<br /><br />The mention of a second new <em>MGS</em> follows <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/26/kojima-teaser-site-updates-with-big-boss/">assumptions we had</a> previously (and could be the name of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/qore-leak-reveals-new-psp-metal-gear-jak-and-daxter-and-more/">already confirmed</a> PSP title), while the addition of "<em>Castlevania</em>" to the already known <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lords-of-shadow"><em>Lords of Shadow</em></a> is something that was unexpected. Although, on second thought ... it does look a bit like a <em>Castelvania</em> title (see the concept art after the break). <em>Lord of Shadows</em> has been an object of attention lately and was presumed to be the game teased in <a href="http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/mask/">Kojima's other teaser website</a>. <br /><br />Meanwhile, one last revelation suggests <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Rising</em></a> is not a 360 exclusive but will be going to PC and PS3 as well. Considering, the non-use of the word "exclusive" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2009-keynote/">Microsoft's press conference</a> where Hideo Kojima personally unveiled <em>Rising</em>, it left many to speculate whether the game was exclusive to the platform. Keep in mind, however, that this listing does not confirm anything and might be a database entry mistake.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/rumor-listing-reveals-metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-and-new-co/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Listing reveals Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and new console Castlevania</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/rumor-listing-reveals-metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-and-new-co/">Rumor: Listing reveals Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and new console Castlevania</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 21:00:00 EST.
