The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/26/watch-nintendo-prez-satoru-iwatas-direct-conference-right-her/">Nintendo Direct conference</a> was ... light on news. However, Nintendo did announce that the first downloadable demos for retail 3DS games are hitting the Japanese eShop today! The selection includes <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/theatrhythm-final-fantasy"><em>Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rhythm-thief-and-the-emperors-treasure"><em>Rhythm Thief</em></a>, and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D</em></a>.<br />
<br />
All of those games are expected to launch in the US around the same time as their Japanese releases, save <em>Theatrhythm</em>, which hasn't been announced stateside. We're just going to be optimistic and believe demos are on the way soon. Of course, we were optimistic about the amount of news we thought would come out of this thing, as well, and that didn't get us very far.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/26/3ds-demos-available-in-japan-today-including-re-revelations-m/">3DS demos available in Japan today, including RE: Revelations, MGS 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Dec 2011 23:00:00 EST. In the midst of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/nintendo-targeting-women-with-new-pink-3ds-in-japan-on-october-2/">revealing a new color</a> for its latest handheld, the 3DS, Nintendo also let slip some other interesting information during its pre-Tokyo Game Show presser this afternoon in Japan. For one, the bizarro second analog nub will be arriving at Japanese retailers starting this December 10, and it'll run customers &yen;1500 ($19.50).<br />
<br />
Moreover, the Japenese console manufacturer revealed several titles that'll support the attachment, kicking off with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/report-famitsu-leaks-circle-pad-attachment-monster-hunter-tri/"><em>Monster Hunter Tri G</em></a> on Dec. 10th. Following <em>Monster Hunter</em> comes <em>Biohazard Revelations</em> (<em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em> outside of Japan), <em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D</em>, <em>Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble</em>, <em>Dynasty Warriors VS</em>, and <em>Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance</em>.<br />
<br />
And finally, the "Slidepad" will require a single AAA battery for use, which indicates to us that it won't bolster the battery of the 3DS it's attached to. We're making sad faces as hard as we can right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/13/nintendo-3ds-bizarre-circle-pad-attachment-coming-to-japan-dece/">Nintendo 3DS circle pad attachment coming to Japan on Dec. 10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 01:45:00 EST. Rumors are <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&amp;id=157463">circulating</a> that the 3DS version of <em>Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater</em> will be released in 2012. <a href="http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/07/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d-delayed-until-2012/">Kotaku Australia</a> reports that Konami confirmed the news directly, though the publisher provided no further information other than a 2012 release date.<br />
<br />
When approached for comment, Konami informed Joystiq that no North American launch date has been announced. At the Tokyo Game Show last year, Hideo Kojima <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/metal-gear-solid-3-snake-eater-slithers-onto-3ds-in-2011/">announced</a> a 2011 release for the game. If this latest news is true, it would seem the date applied only to Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/rumor-metal-gear-solid-3-snake-eater-3d-to-be-released-in-2012/">Rumor: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D to be released in 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 21:40:00 EST. There really isn't a lot to say about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-3-snake-eater"><em>Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater</em></a>. It's the same game that debuted on the PlayStation 2 over six years ago. Well, that's true for the most part. There are a few 3DS additions -- and some necessary control changes, but for the most part it's an enhanced port without too many surprises.<br />

Hideo Kojima gave a glimpse of the playable <em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D</em> demo for E3 by way of his Japanese Twitter account today. He noted that he finally crossed a suspension bridge using the "gyro controls." <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/18/devour-these-metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-s/">Last year's E3 demo</a> of <em>MGS 3D</em> was little more than an interactive movie.<br />
<br />
The image shows off the game's interface on the lower screen, with weapon selection also accessible through the bottom screen.<br />
<br />
Kojima, who recently received a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/hideo-kojima-becomes-vp-of-konami-digital-entertainment/">promotion in the Konami hierarchy</a>, previously stated that there is something big planned for <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>'s 25th anniversary next year, though he's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/27/kojima-something-big-planned-for-25th-metal-gear-anniversary-ne/">not planning</a> on delivering any announcements at E3 himself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/01/metal-gear-solid-3ds-interface-snapped-by-kojima/">Metal Gear Solid 3D's interface snapped by Kojima</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST. Kojima Productions head honcho Hideo Kojima took to his company's <a href="http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/radio/hideradio_0293.mp3">official podcast</a> to address some rumors surrounding his ongoing projects. Rather than elaborating on fans' questions (and potentially spoil Konami's long-term marketing plans), Kojima simply delivered either "Yes" or "No" answers (summed up by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/27/kojima_questions/">Andriasang</a>).<br />
<br />
First up: He won't be making any big splashes at next month's E3, (that's a "no"), but he did confirm that there are big plans afoot for next year's 25th anniversary of <em>Metal Gear.</em><br />
<br />
Before you get too excited, he also shot down the dream of a <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> port to NGP, and offered another "No" when asked if <em>MGS5</em> would be announced next month. As for the 3DS port of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d">Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater,</a> </em>"yes," it'll arrive by year's end.<br />
<br />
Finally, he noted that we won't see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-rising"><em>Metal Gear Solid Rising'</em></a>s multiplayer anytime soon, never mind at Microsoft's E3 presser (where he will not appear). Now we're hoping that Kojima's big surprise for next year is reversing all of this year's "No" answers.<br />

Nintendo's official website for Nintendo World 2011, next month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/24/japanese-3ds-showcase-named-nintendo-world-2011/">public showing</a> of the 3DS in Japan, has been updated, now highlighting the full list of games to be shown during the Tokyo event. Playable versions of everything from <em>MGS3: Snake Eater</em> to <em>Pilotwings Resort</em> will be on hand, though, bizarrely, some demos that were playable at this year's E3 will be for display only, including <em>Starfox 64 3D</em>.<br />
<br />
Nintendo has also announced that the 3DS will make an appearance at next month's World Hobby Fair (also in Japan) and at two Japanese outlet shopping centers, according to <a href="http://www.1up.com/news/nintendo-reveals-list-3ds-titles">1UP</a>. We suspect you'd find the shortest lines at those outlets, but, personally, we'd rather take our chances at the Makuhari Messe event to check out the long list of titles (found after the break) than watch a few demos at the local Uniqlo.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/nintendo-world-2011-3ds-games-unveiled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo World 2011's 3DS games unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/nintendo-world-2011-3ds-games-unveiled/">Nintendo World 2011's 3DS games unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST. Of those, we've seen screens or video of precisely one, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/metal-gear-solid-3-snake-eater-3ds-set-for-spring-e3-trailer-o/">Snake Eater</a>,</em> with the others first revealed as in development during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/heres-the-list-of-every-3ds-game-in-development/">E3</a>. <br />
<br />
The non-<em>Metal Gear</em> games haven't been shown, although it's worthwhile to know that a) they're still in development, and b) Konami already plans to release them in Europe. Plus, it doesn't take a huge leap of intuition to figure out what kind of games <em>Contra</em>, <em>Pro Evolution Soccer</em>, and Frogger will be.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/konami-confirms-3ds-lineup-for-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Konami confirms 3DS lineup for Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/konami-confirms-3ds-lineup-for-europe/">Konami confirms 3DS lineup for Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 17:00:00 EST. One of the belles of last night's Nintendo press ball was the 3DS version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d"><em>Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater</em></a>. According to <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/29/mgs_3ds_spring/">Andriasang</a>, Konami revealed that the "revival" of the PS2 stealth-action classic is set to arrive in Japan next Spring, assumedly a couple short months after the handheld's February 2011 release.<br />
<br />
If the short clip from the game shown during the event's 3DS software montage didn't satisfy your need for three-dimensional jungle crawling, you can check out the entire video demo we got to see at E3 over on <a href="http://www.konami.jp/mgs_se/">the game's official site</a>. Of course, it'll be missing an entire dimension when you watch it -- man, this whole "releasing 2D trailers for the 3DS" thing is going to get confusing, quick, isn't it?<br />

<div style="text-align: left; ">Speaking during a Konami on-stage presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2010, Hideo Kojima announced a 2011 debut for the Nintendo 3DS version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/18/devour-these-metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-s/">Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater</a></em>. In a surprising move, the game's original title won't be spruced up to match its enhanced visuals and new platform. (We made a page for <em>Metal Gear Solid Double 3 + D: Stereoscopic Synthesis Subsequence</em> and everything!)<br />
<br />
Kojima Productions will reveal more details about the project at a later date. For now, it seems to be a faithful update and port of the PlayStation 2's snake-attack classic. <br />

Probably not as surprised, however, as the Kojima Productions staff who didn't know it was being developed. In a <em>Famitsu</em> interview (translated by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/07/07/kojima_on_mgs_3ds/">Andriasang</a>), Hideo Kojima described how, after the completion of <em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em>, he secretly assigned a small number of staffers to the project on a different floor of the Kojima Productions office -- causing other Kojipro staff to believe the others were on vacation.<br />
<br />
Kojima seems confident that the demo will evolve into a full game, which will probably still be a remake of <em>Metal Gear Solid 3 -- </em>after <em>Peace Walker</em>, he wanted to tell the story of The Boss again. "<em>MGS3</em>'s story can't change, so we're thinking of Co-ops, 3D and portable-like elements," Kojima said. The final game may actually look better than the demo, as well. "The high level models are about the same quality as the stuff we made on the PlayStation 3," Kojima said, "although it's tough to see this. If we'd had a bit more time, we could have made something better."<br />

It's like really being a terrified secret agent crawling through the jungle, totally checking out a big alligator and having knives thrown at you.<br />
<br />
These screens aren't even 3D. They aren't even in motion. But for 2D, static images of a non-playable 3D demo, we think these screens are pretty impressive. They show evidence of a lot of work -- Snake's sneaking suit appears to be a revised version of the sneaking suit he found in <em>MGS3</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/">Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater The Naked Sample (3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/#3096130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/pic01ksd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/#3096131"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/pic02osl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/#3096132"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/pic03juf_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/#3096133"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/pic04ksu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-3ds/#3096134"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/pic05qwe_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/18/devour-these-metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater-the-naked-sample-s/">Devour these Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater The Naked Sample screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jun 2010 15:40:00 EST. The identity of Konami's first project on the recently revealed Nintendo 3DS has received a title on a partial list of first and third-party titles for the platform: <em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D "The Naked Sample</em><em>." </em>Yes, there are quotation marks in the title. Yes, that's appropriately bizarre.<br />
<br />
It sounds like the third installment in the <em>Solid</em> series is getting a remake, or perhaps even a sequel, on the new handheld. We'll try to find out for sure when we stop by Nintendo's booth later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d-the-naked-sample-surfaces-in/">Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D 'The Naked Sample' surfaces in 3DS lineup list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 14:01:00 EST.
