All Konami's games are value priced at 99 cents until January 4, 2010, when all the games will return to their usual prices. That included Tomena Sanner, which will run you $1.99. Konami spokesman Robert Santini warned us that future price drops aren't necessarily a sure thing: "This will not be something that will happen every time a new mobile title is announced," he said. "Konami just wanted to do it during the holiday season."

We've been following Metal Gear Solid Touch for some time now -- mostly because we like Snake a bit too much -- and following the update that unlocked access to the second half of the game, Konami has dumped a free demo into the App store. The demo weighs in at 84.8mb and provides you with a taste of three levels to give you an idea of what to expect from the touch-and-shoot-em-up. The full version of Metal Gear Solid Touch will set you back $7.99 (which roughly equals 14 cardboard boxes, based on current cardboard exchange rates).

Konami and Kojima Productions have released the "complete version" of Metal Gear Solid Touch for iPhone / iPod Touch. The game originally launched ahead of schedule on March 18 but was basically unfinished. It only covered the events of Metal Gear Solid 4 up to a certain point (we won't spoil it) before abruptly ending, leaving some to question their $7.99 investment. Today's update, which is free for anyone who already owns the game, fills out the rest of the story in addition to bringing more unlockable iPhone wallpapers and numerous bug fixes.

MGS Touch is a fine shooting gallery with plenty of polish; we just hope iPhone will, at some point, get a proper -- much more interactive -- MGS title like other phones have.

MGS Touch covers the events of MGS4, with players assuming the role of Solid Old Snake, in what amounts to a screen-tapping shooting gallery.

The game features 20 levels and has the cloned protagonist fighting all the characters you've come to know from MGS4 -- minus the 45-minute cutscenes. We should have our review of the app up soon.

Konami has announced the "Advance Edition" of Metal Gear Solid Touch, which will hit the Apple App Store later this month. The release will include the first 12 stages of the game, followed by a free (and undated) update that will add 8 additional stages. Konami also confirms the game will follow Old Snake across "the Middle East, South America, Eastern Europe, and Shadow Moses," so MGS4 fans should anticipate revisiting the highlights of the PS3 game on the small screen -- as seen in the first trailer.

Additionally, we've posted new screens in the gallery below. Go ahead -- give 'em a try. That's right ... put your greasy fingers on the screen. Just like the real thing, ain't it?

Thanks to the opening of the official Metal Gear Solid Touch website we now have a much clearer idea of what to expect from the game when it launches this spring. The game will follow the story of Metal Gear Solid 4 but will play more like a light-gun game. Controls involve flicking a finger across the screen to move Snake and pinching to zoom in for trickier shots.

Rewarded at the end of each phase, Drebin points will allow you to unlock new Metal Gear Solid inspired iPhone wallpapers. Kojima Productions will seemingly be getting the game out a bit quicker by splitting it in two; a version with twelve stages will released in the spring, with an update coming later that will add the remaining eight stages at no extra cost. For those who've already bought it, at least.

Both 1UP and IGN have poked and prodded new details out of Japanese mag Famitsu's recent Metal Gear Solid Touch reveal, lifting the touchable curtains somewhat off Konami's upcoming head scratcher. According to the article, the game will be based on MGS4, with Metal Gear mastermind Kojima describing the iPhone app as a "Simple MGS." Translation: It's a shooter.

In fact, Metal Gear's emphasis on stealth is being pocketed this time around in favor of something that is easier to pick up and play on the go, with much of the gameplay involving sliding and pinching the screen in typical iPhone fashion to move Snake's view and zoom in and out of targets. Additionally, shooting bad guys and exploding barrels is taken care of by tapping directly on the screen. We remain interested, albeit confused, about Snake's latest mission. But the weathered soldier isn't getting any younger, and with all of these fingers in the way, we wonder if he'll be able to see anything at all.

Sorry PS3 fans, "a next Metal Gear is" not coming to your favorite black behemoth of a console. In fact, it's not going to any console (sorry Xbox fans, maybe one day). Konami has announced today that Metal Gear Solid is going to the iPhone in the form of Metal Gear Solid Touch next Spring.

This won't be a new story, though. It's essentially a very watered down port of MGS4, as "each stage's location and characters are based on the story of MGS4." In case you're interested, Silent Hill and Dance Dance Revolution are also making the transition to iPhone. So there you have it, you can stop fretting over Kojima's cryptic message and enjoy Christmas.

And Dance Dance Revolution, if you can believe it. Konami has announced the impending arrival of four downloadable iPhone games, with all but one scheduled to arrive "from late December." The genres covered are "Music," "Action," "3D Shooting" and the slightly provocative "Touch Shooting." As for the corresponding titles:
  • Dance Dance Revolution S Lite, "a music game where you tap the arrow icons that appear at the bottom of the screen in time with music."
  • Silent Hill: The Escape, "a first-person 3D shooting game that lets players utilize the control features only found on the iPhone and iPod touch ..."
  • Frogger, "a simple game" which probably doesn't require any further explanation.
  • Metal Gear Solid Touch, "an original game that brings to life the world and characters" of MGS4. Eight "touch shooting" levels will be available in the initial release, with more to follow.
MGST is currently slated for a Spring 2009 release. All the games are coming to North America, Japan and Europe, with the exception of Dance Dance Revolution, which is apparently too hip for the electronic rectangles in Europe.

Don't leave yet! At least let us tell you where this information comes from. According to 1UP and 1 of its tipsters, the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu shows what lies beyond the cryptic ellipsis appended to Kojima Productions' teaser website, which we last discussed on December 5th. Judging by a somewhat scrutable scan, the game appears to be an iPhone project dubbed "Metal Gear Solid Touch." [Update: Konami has confirmed the title.]

Little else is known about the touch-screen title, but we imagine many a soldier's neck will be snapped via some precision pinching.
