Metallica will perform at Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em></a> launch event on Thursday, where the band will help raise $1 million for The Call of Duty Endowment. The fund's mission is to assist soldiers transition back into civilian life and help them establish jobs and careers.<br />
<br />
According to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, the unemployment rate for veterans is 21% higher than the rate for all Americans, with over a half-million veterans unemployed. <br />
<br />
If you're looking to sneak into the concert, the event will be held November 4 at Santa Monica Airport's Hangar 8 ... though sneaking into an airport hangar post 9/11 is about as sure a way we know of to get yourself locked up. Also, that's very close to the location of that horrific <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/min-e3-phenomenally-large-companies-itty-bitty-space/">Min</a>-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/all-of-e3s-barker-hangar-in-less-than-five-minutes">E3</a> of 2007 -- a memory that will haunt our dreams more than Nazi Zombies ever could.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/03/metallica-to-serenade-call-of-duty-black-ops-at-launch-event/">Metallica to serenade Call of Duty: Black Ops at launch event</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Nov 2010 00:00:00 EST. Details about the upcoming sixth iteration in the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Hero</a></em> series (that is, if you don't count various spin-offs) have begun landing on the web from Official Xbox Magazine UK, reports <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=123689">GoNintendo</a>. As Kiss' Gene Simmons <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/gene-simmons-im-the-voice-of-guitar-hero-6/">proclaimed earlier this year</a>, it seems he'll be emceeing the game. Alongside his appearance, Queen, Black Sabbath and Metallica's Lars Ulrich will also be showing up, though rather than being featured as playable characters, the various rockers will be recruitable characters for guidance through the game's campaign ("Quest Mode") -- that whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/no-doubt-suing-activision-for-band-hero-circus-act-appearance/"><em>multiple</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/courtney-love-to-sue-activision-over-guitar-hero-5s-reanimated/"><em>lawsuit</em></a> <em>thing</em> certainly couldn't have hurt Activision's decision, right?<br />
<br />
Maybe most important of all is the inclusion of legendary New York City club CBGB (&amp; OMFUG) as the game's "only real-world location" (at least to this former CBGB attendee), but we suppose you're probably more interested in hearing that "previous DLC" will allegedly be playable in number six ... or <em>whatever</em>. Activision wouldn't confirm the details with us, but you OXM UK subscribers are welcome to re-confirm the report's legitimacy in our comments section below.<br />

Sure, November may lack the phonetic building blocks which allow the word "Rock" to be tucked in there somehow, but that doesn't mean it won't bring any hard-rockin' jams to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a>. We've got <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/guitar-heror-continues-to-rock-the-house-as-novembers-line-up-of-downloadable-content-is-announced-67556757.html">the full list of DLC</a> that's coming to the game next month posted after the jump, including selections from Lenny Kravitz, Metallica, KISS and others. One bundle, the "Neversoft Thanks the Fans Track Pack," will be absolutely free. The other packs, will follow the 160<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($2, 200 Wii Points) per song, 440</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5.50, 550 Wii Points) per three-song pack pricing structure of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/guitar-hero-5-october-2009-dlc/">last month's releases</a>.<br />

Tapulous, a company specializing in games for the iPhone, has added another to its ranks: <a href="http://tapulous.com/metallica/"><em>Tap Tap Revenge: Metallica</em></a>. The game is available right now in the App Store and fuses the band with the established <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/the-joystiq-free-game-club-tap-tap-revenge/">Tap Tap Revenge</a> </em>experience, allowing gamers to poke their iPhone through some of the band's most famous ditties such as "One" and "Enter Sandman" -- with ten total tracks available.<br />
<br />
The new edition also sports some added functionality over its regular ol' boring <em>Tap Tap Revenge</em> counterparts: Aside from the usual career mode, there's now a more fast-paced arcade mode where players are "challenged with bombs and other special objects" and a new Bluetooth battle mode that lets players challenge others -- granted you're within the appropriate distance of each other -- to see who's the better iPhone-screen-poker.<br />
<br />
For those diehard Metallica fans who aren't satisfied with <em>an entire game themed around the band</em>, the title also has other features that allow one to <strike>stalk</strike> be more in tune (sorry!) with the band's current activities -- including a news ticker and a live message board.<br />

According to an Activision Blizzard press release, we won't be seeing more <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/video-heidi-klum-undresses-for-guitar-hero/">Heidi Klum</a> in ads for upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>, as the company has revealed a new advertising campaign focusing on <em>college basketball coaches</em>. In an attempt to capitalize on all of this March Madness hoopla, the new ad features four famous college basketball coaches (from left to right: Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Bob Knight, and Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski) and their "surprise encounter" with Metallica. As you can tell from the image above, the new ad will continue the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiPDL9S552s"><em>Risky Business</em></a> theme, but includes a surprise ending where we see all all four coaches walking home through the snow, <em>uphill</em>, with no shoes on. Watch it for yourself after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/guitar-hero-metallica-ads-ditch-heidi-klum-for-college-basketba/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica ads ditch Heidi Klum for college basketball coaches</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/guitar-hero-metallica-ads-ditch-heidi-klum-for-college-basketba/">Guitar Hero: Metallica ads ditch Heidi Klum for college basketball coaches</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 17:30:00 EST. We thought we'd pass along <a href="http://community.guitarhero.com/news_posts/175">a courteous reminder from Activision</a> informing the gaming community that <em><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20Metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em></em> began rocking store shelves today. If you haven't found current full-band simulators to be punishing enough, <em>Metallica</em> promises to deliver with an "Expert +" mode, double kick pedals, and guitar solos capable of turning even the sturdiest fingers into tiny puddles of red goo. If you've got $59.99 lying around (or $49.99 for the Wii version, $39.99 for the PS2), you can simulate "riding the lightning"* with unparalleled accuracy.<br /><br />*<em>Warning: Riding lightning can lead to unintended health consequences in the groin region, including serious unsightly burns and impotence. Consult your doctor before deciding to mount any arcs of electricity.<br /><br /></em><strong>Update</strong>: The PS2 version isn't actually dropping until Sunday, May 24 -- meaning Activision is effectively tainting two of 2009's Sabbath days with a touch of unholy metal.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/psa-guitar-hero-metallica-melting-faces-store-shelves-today/">PSA: Guitar Hero: Metallica melting faces, store shelves today [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. That <em>is</em> <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>. Is it fun? Sure. Is it for non-fans? Eh, maybe. Is there anything remotely new about it apart from the fact that it's totally, completely, fully and thoroughly Metallica? Yes.<br /><br />In a move to make the game more party-friendly than <em>GHWT </em>from the get-go, Neversoft has thoughtfully unlocked every song on the disc in Quick Play mode; playing through career mode is mainly about unlocking items and the overall Metallica "experience." Which, as we found, starts out by having you play a couple of songs by the metal legends then becoming so inspired that you start your own band (who you play the games non-Metallica songs as).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fuel-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429375"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---in-the-round-performance-3132009-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429376"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---king-diamond-3132009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429377"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---drum-note-highway-3132009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429378"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fight-fire-with-fire-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/">Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. Note the highlighted name "Lynyrd Skynrd," located in the top left. The band's name is <em>clearly</em> misspelled. The correct spelling is "Lynyrd Skynyrd" -- <em>duh.</em><br /><br />Some conspiracists might insist that the error is intentional, enforced by Metallica (take note: "Metallica" is spelled correctly), which secretly despises Skynyrd's musical success and demanded humiliation in the form of a misspelling. <em>Seriously?</em> No, that can't be it. Chalk up this mistake to poor proofing. (On a side note: we're petitioning to have "Lynyrd Skynyrd" introduced into the Scripps National Spelling Bee -- it's a tough one!)<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.play-girlz.com/guitar-hero-metallica-launches-with-typo-in-cover-art/">playgirlz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/guitar-hero-metallica-box-art-mispellz-lynyrd-skynyrd/">Guitar Hero: Metallica box art 'mispellz' Lynyrd Skynyrd</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 14:12:00 EST. <br />It looks like we might get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/guitar-hero-metallica-is-officially-born/#comments">our wish</a>: <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> will consist mostly of songs from the band's first five albums, with only eleven post-1991 tracks appearing. Metallica's <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">official site</a> has leaked the full track list, which also contains twenty songs from artists such as Queen, System of a Down, Slayer, Mot&ouml;rhead, and Thin Lizzy. You can view the full line-up past the break.<br /><br />Also, some less-than-great news: the release of the Wii version is set to lag behind the competition. Whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be ready for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/guitar-hero-metallica-dated-in-europe-and-possibly-north-ameri/">March 29</a>, Metallica themselves (or whoever writes on the website pretending to be the band) say we can expect the game "in the Spring, most likely in early May." Sad But True, indeed.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/full-guitar-hero-metallica-track-list-revealed-wii-version-arr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Guitar Hero: Metallica track list revealed, Wii version arriving late</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/full-guitar-hero-metallica-track-list-revealed-wii-version-arr/">Full Guitar Hero: Metallica track list revealed, Wii version arriving late</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Not wanting to be outed by those tricky Activision execs, Metallica has taken it upon themselves to reveal the entire <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </span>setlist over on <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">Metallica.com</a>. The list (viewable after the break) is comprised of over 25 Metallica songs and over 20 tracks from other "hand picked" bands. Bands including Alice in Chains, Seger, Judas Priest, SOAD, Skynyrd and Britney Spears. Joking, of course, about Spears' inclusion. Oh, and don't forget about that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/free-second-pedal-with-gh-metallica-preorder/">second drum pedal</a>.<br /></div>

Up until now, we've been uncertain about what tracks would be appearing on <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica --</em> though the educated guessers among us presumed that it would have <em>quite a few</em> tracks by its titular band. They were correct -- the news section on <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601837">Metallica's official site recently revealed</a> the 28 tracks the rock outfit would be contributing to the game (PS2 and Wii versions will include three extra songs in lieu of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/metallicas-death-magnetic-album-for-guitar-hero-3-this-friday/">access to the band's <em>Death Magnetic </em>DLC pack</a>), as well as the extra tracks from "<span class="newscontent">some of the bands we admire and even call friends."</span> <br /><br />The full list is posted after the jump, and features our patented new Bold-O-Vision technology to point out the particular song we can't wait to croon without shame or self restraint in whatever social setting we happen to find ourselves in.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/metallica-reveals-full-setlist-for-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metallica reveals full setlist for Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/metallica-reveals-full-setlist-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">Metallica reveals full setlist for Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jan 2009 18:00:00 EST. <br />The ESRB just rated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/guitar-hero-metallica-includes-extra-pedal-so-you-can-try-to-be/"><em>Guitar Hero Metallica</em></a>, and in its synopsis gave away lyrics to four of the songs that would appear in the game. Thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/"><em>Game Informer</em></a>, we knew about the presence of "Armed and Ready" by MSG, but Destructoid discovered three fresh specimens:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"Am I Evil?" by Metallica</li>
    <li>"Whiplash" by Metallica</li>
    <li>"Mommy's Little Monster" by Social Distortion</li>
</ul>
Some of the lyrics that the ESRB pointed out include "sweet and timely whore, take me home" and "We're gathered here to maim and kill." My, they are <em>terribly</em> rock 'n roll, aren't they? Also CONFIRMED: one of the selectable guitarists is "a fantastical succubus with cleavage and panties."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/guitar-hero-metallica-esrb-listing-reveals-songs-succubus-cleavage-and-panties-119029.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/esrb-confirms-guitar-hero-metallica-songs-presence-of-succubi/">ESRB confirms Guitar Hero Metallica songs, presence of succubi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 19:20:00 EST. A listing for upcoming<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> has popped up on GameStop, along with <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73601">an interesting bonus</a> for pre-ordering the game. According to the site, the game will include a bonus drum pedal, along with a splitter, which will allow would-be rockers to drum with dual pedals if you order early. You know, just like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFlnXeo4mKQ">Lars Ulrich</a>.<br /><br />The listing is for the Xbox 360 version of the game, but it's a safe bet to expect this for Wii. It's a multiplatform game after all and if one version is going to offer dual pedals, we doubt it would be excluded from the other versions and a bonus exclusive to the Xbox.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Added further clarification that this is a pre-order bonus.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/guitar-hero-metallica-pre-orders-come-with-bonus-drum-pedal/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/guitar-hero-metallica-includes-extra-pedal-so-you-can-try-to-be/">Guitar Hero: Metallica includes extra pedal so you can try to be Lars Ulrich [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 12:39:00 EST. There's a thick cloud of fear hanging over fans of faux-drumming in games like <em>Rock Band </em>and <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em> -- fear inspired by the near-impossible rhythms which will need to be kept when <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20Metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>hits store shelves. We're not sure how familiar you guys are with the speed with which Mr. Ulrich is capable of producing percussion, but we assure you, his work will be most unpleasant to attempt to mimic.<br /><br />Thankfully, an <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73601">uncharacteristically useful pre-order bonus from GameStop</a> will give the game's quick-to-act reservers an extra bass drum pedal and input splitter. This will allow the player to use both pedals to tackle the game's more heel-punishing tracks. It's certainly a better option than splitting your foot down the middle, and training yourself to control both halves independently, which, now that we think about it, would be <em>pretty rock-and-roll</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/guitar-hero-metallica-pre-orders-come-with-bonus-drum-pedal/">Guitar Hero: Metallica pre-orders come with bonus drum pedal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 19:30:00 EST. It's not just a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/rumor-gh-metallica-to-rock-retail-march-29th/">rumor</a> anymore, metal-heads. The official release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> has been <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601800">announced</a>. The game will be launching in North America on March 29 and will release in other regions sometime in May. So, start preparing your fingers for the inevitable calluses and start drinking all the Red Bull you can stomach, because <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-arrives-early-2009/">going to be <em>hard</em></a>. With 28 Mettalica tracks and plenty of guest artists, it's not a game for lightweights. No, you'll need to be a <em>serious</em> fake musician if you want to hang with the big boys. What you do with your fake groupies, well, that's up to you.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/guitar-hero-metallica-rocks-out-march-29-for-na-may-elsewhere/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/guitar-hero-metallica-lands-march-29-in-na-other-regions-in-ma/">Guitar Hero: Metallica lands March 29 in NA, other regions in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 16:30:00 EST. Heavy metal icons Metallica have let the black cat out of the bag. <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica </em>is coming to North America March 29th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the rest of the world sometime in May. The PS2 and Wii versions are coming this Spring, "<span class="newscontent">also most likely in early May," according to the <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601800">band's website</a>.<br /><br />For those who need a little reminder, this is <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> ... with Metallica. Oh, and there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/rumor-guitar-hero-metallica-to-feature-expert-plus-drum-mode/">"expert-plus" drums</a>. "March 29" is a little too random to be a placeholder date, and is also a Sunday, a popular release day for big-name titles. Even if the franchise <em>has</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/report-guitar-hero-reaching-its-peak/">reached the peak</a> of its popularity, we still feel pretty confident about calling <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> "big-name."<br /><br />Meanwhile, Activision had no qualms about revealing release details for Europe, informing Eurogamer that the game would reach the region in May. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73600">Source</a>: Possible North American date [Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/rumortoid-guitar-hero-metallica-street-dated-for-march-29-117928.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<br /><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/guitar-hero-metallica-confirmed-for-may">Source</a>: Confirmed European date<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/guitar-hero-metallica-dated-in-europe-and-possibly-north-ameri/">Guitar Hero: Metallica dated in Europe (and possibly North America)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 15:37:00 EST. The quality was dubious but the message was suitably loud and clear: you <em>will</em> "ride the lightning" in 2009. And, by "ride the lightning," we of course mean "press buttons on a plastic guitar and Metallica songs will happen."<br /><br />Activision-Blizzard, having evidently accepted the game's existence at long last, today released a more watchable version of the teaser. That's what you'll see when you press "play" above. What you <em>won't </em>see is much of the game outside of some in-engine concert footage of the band performing and looking all ... Well, we've certainly been talking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/">about</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">it</a> for awhile now and finally it's made official. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-not-too-far-off/"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> has dished out its first trailer and, well, it's <em>definitely something</em>. The trailer promises the band's "fiercest songs," which we hope means "tunes from the first 5 albums." You know, when Metallica was <em>good</em>.<br /><br />Of course, with this being Metallica and all, we can't embed the video past the break. Lars would cry, or something. So <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp=1&amp;item=601748">hit up this link</a> to watch it. Oh, and a word of caution: Hetfield looks like a mutant in the game and there's an overabundance of lens flare in the trailer. Enjoy!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/metallica-debuts-guitar-hero-metallica-trailer/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/guitar-hero-metallica-is-officially-born/">Guitar Hero: Metallica is (officially) born</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Dec 2008 16:16:00 EST. <div align="left">So what if the Metallica edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a> still hasn't been officially announced? The band itself has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">talking about it</a> all willy-nilly; it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/rumor-guitar-hero-metallica-to-feature-expert-plus-drum-mode/">been in <em>Game Informer</em></a>; there was even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/guitar-hero-metallica-teaser-found-in-guitar-hero-world-tour/">a teaser</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a>.<em> </em>And now ... well, the trailer is out. Not from its publisher, Activision, but <a href="http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601748">on the band's website</a>.<br /><br />Perhaps some fine print in the band's contract stipulates that it gets to handle the PR for the game. Perhaps the <em>mere mention</em> of the game is being considered an "exclusive," since it's "unannounced." Perhaps it's <em>time for a press release already</em>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Brett]</div>

We may have known about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">the first tracks and gameplay features</a> for upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=guitar+hero+metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>, but when is it going to release? Well, according to a report by USA Today, Metallica says we should expect it early next year. Also, you'll be playing as a band that emulates Metallica, following them around and playing their songs. Maybe this should be called <em>Guitar Hero: Crazy Bunch of Stalkers </em>instead?<br /><br />So, who's looking forward to this?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-not-too-far-off/">Guitar Hero: Metallica not too far off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 18:13:00 EST. We all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">knew it was coming</a>, but now <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> is 100% official. <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-14-metallica-game-qanda_N.htm">Speaking to USA today</a>, Neversoft's Alan Flores and Metallica's Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett discussed the game and some of its features. The story of the game is that players are members of a band that tours with Metallica, covering its songs at different venues. Neversoft decided that the game couldn't work chronologically, as Metallica's early work would be far too difficult at the beginning of the game. Concerning difficulty, Flores says that the game will be "a lot harder" than previous <em>Guitar Hero</em> games, and is aimed squarely at hardcore players. So then, should we just give up now?<br /><br />The game should arrive early next year, with Ulrich specifically mentioning March.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-arrives-early-2009/">Guitar Hero: Metallica arrives early 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 13:00:00 EST. It's a Christmas miracle! Someone's actually admitting out loud that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>exists! The band spilled a ton of details to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-14-metallica-game-qanda_N.htm">USA Today</a>, including word on the game's difficulty (considerable) and the story, which casts you as a band, inspired by Metallica, following them around the world and playing their songs. It's a strange structure, but the reasoning (the band's early work would have been far too hard, ruling out a chronological approach) seems pretty sound.<br /><br />We imagine there will be very few of you on the fence, so we have to ask: When <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> arrives early next year, will you be picking it up?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-in-early-2009/">Guitar Hero Metallica coming in early 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 11:10:00 EST. <br />With all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/world-tour-nirvana-tracks-now-available-for-download/">recent</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/european-bands-sign-up-for-world-tour/">chatter</a> about <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em>, you can be forgiven if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> slipped from your radar. It's still very much coming, though, and the latest issue of <em>Game Informer</em> has fresh details and the first tracks, from both Metallica themselves and the other acts that will feature.<br /><br />The game will come with the full suite of <em>World Tour</em> instruments, and Vicarious Visions plans to add "Metallica drum sounds" and a selection of guitar and bass "tones" used by Metallica's James Hetfield and Tom Araya of Slayer to the GH Tunes music studio. There will also be a new, extra-hard drum difficulty for those with a splitter and two kick pedals. Having picked up <em>Guitar Hero</em> games again after a long break, the last thing we personally need is greater difficulty, but <strike>freaks</strike> experts will appreciate that.<br /><br />Check out the first Metallica and non-Metallica tracks after the break!<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First tracks, deets for Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/first-tracks-deets-for-guitar-hero-metallica/">First tracks, deets for Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 14:37:00 EST. Ulrich's somewhat cryptic reasoning: "We had to make a decision, and it was one or the other, and we felt that <em>Guitar Hero</em> were more suited for what we were looking for. They were ready to step up on a number of fronts and it's been great." Ulrich did not elaborate on how exactly Activision "stepped up," though he does mention the rumors of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/acti-planning-guitar-hero-metallica-for-q1-2009/">Metallica themed <em>Guitar Hero</em></a>. Ulrich did not confirm such a game was in the works, instead saying "who knows what's gonna lurk next year, but it's pretty exciting."<br /></div>
<br />So, Activision stepped up and <em>Guitar Hero</em> was more suited to what Metallica was looking for. Somehow we get the feeling that Activision stepped up with a suitcase full of money, which is <em>exactly</em> what Metallica was looking for.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/lars-ulrich-on-why-metallica-is-guitar-hero-exclusive/">Lars Ulrich on why Metallica is Guitar Hero exclusive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. According to one audio engineer, the best listening experience for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/metallica-album-coming-to-guitar-hero-on-day-of-release/">Metallica's new <em>Death Magnetic</em> album</a> may be the one you create for yourself ... in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-III/">Guitar Hero III</a></em>. Engineer Ian Shepherd compared the two on his blog, and said that the version from the game has a lot less clipping and more dynamic range.<br /><br />What's the culprit? Shepherd blames the "Loudness Wars," which have engineers sacrificing audio quality in favor of a louder-sounding final product. We blame our mad <em>Guitar Hero</em> skills have somehow, through years of digital instrument manipulation, made us <em>better than Metallica</em>. It's a proud day.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/blog-death-magnetic-sounds-better-in-guitar-hero-173961">Music Radar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/engineer-metallica-mix-better-in-guitar-hero-than-on-cd/">Engineer: Metallica mix better in Guitar Hero than on CD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 10:15:00 EST. The first full downloadable album for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-iii"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> is finally here; Metallica's latest album, <em>Death Magnetic</em>, will debut on <em>GH III</em> on September 12th, the same day it goes on sale worldwide. Exclusive to <em>Guitar Hero</em> will be two versions of the song <em>Suicide &amp; Redemption</em> featuring extended solos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. The album will also be foward compatible -- all the songs will work in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> and presumably all the new instruments when it is released in October.<br /><br />Look for the album this Friday, September 12th on the PS Store for $17.99. Check out the complete tracklist after the jump:<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/metallicas-death-magnetic-coming-to-guitar-hero-this-friday/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metallica's Death Magnetic coming to Guitar Hero this Friday</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/metallicas-death-magnetic-coming-to-guitar-hero-this-friday/">Metallica's Death Magnetic coming to Guitar Hero this Friday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 16:00:00 EST. Beginning this Friday, September 12th, you can get a jump on building your <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour/">Guitar Hero World Tour</a></em> library by purchasing the new Metallica album, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/metallica-album-coming-to-guitar-hero-on-day-of-release/">Death Magnetic</a>, on Xbox Live (1440<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> / $18) or PSN ($17.99) -- you can even practice the guitar parts using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-3/"><em>Guitar Hero 3</em></a>. In other words, the DLC album, which happens to be releasing day and date with the not-for-toy-instruments version, is compatible with both games, but you'll have to wait until <em>World Tour</em> is released in late October to channel your inner <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/lars-wont-confirm-guitar-hero-metallica-spoiler-its-happeni/">Lars</a> or reach deep inside your chest cavity to unleash your best Hetfield impersonation. What you will get on Friday, assuming you do have a copy of <em>Guitar Hero 3</em>, is access to two exclusive cuts of "Suicide &amp; Redemption" with extended solos by Hetfield and Kirk Hammett.<br /><br />"We're proud to be setting a new precedent for our two industries, making an entire new album available in two different mediums simultaneously," Activision's Tim Riley boasted. How about you do us one better? An entire new album available in two different mediums <em>in one download!</em> We'd sure like to export those tunes to our <strike>Zune</strike> iPod as we wait for <em>World Tour</em>. (But maybe that's just a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/activision-dreams-up-guitar-hero-music-platform-to-rival-itunes/">pipe dream</a>.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/metallicas-death-magnetic-album-for-guitar-hero-3-this-friday/">Metallica's 'Death Magnetic' album for Guitar Hero 3 this Friday, forward compatible with World Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 15:50:00 EST. It's alright Lars, you don't need to keep it a secret any longer. With or without your intimations, we all know <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> will be joining the pantheon of geriatric rock simulators right alongside <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">that other game</a>, probably next summer. But if you really just want to get it off your chest, go right on ahead ...<br /><br />When asked about the existence of the aforementioned game by MTV News, Metallica drummer and lead Napster-hater Lars Ulrich said, "... if somebody's gonna follow [<em>GH: Aerosmith</em>] up ... we're talking, and its exciting, and the people at <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> and Activision are rapidly becoming our best new friends in the world. You can put the rest of it together yourself." We took a moment to put those various pieces together and, sure enough, they basically assembled the retail packaging for the game. For further evidence, hit up the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/lars-wont-confirm-guitar-hero-metallica-spoiler-its-happeni/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lars won't confirm Guitar Hero: Metallica (spoiler: it's happening)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/lars-wont-confirm-guitar-hero-metallica-spoiler-its-happeni/">Lars won't confirm Guitar Hero: Metallica (spoiler: it's happening)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Aug 2008 14:58:00 EST. The Wii version is one of those versions! We like hearing anything that lends credence to the idea that <em>GH World Tour </em>will have DLC on the Wii. Could this replace the rumored <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a>?</em><br /><br />We admit to not really understanding the next bit, but apparently the drum kit will have some kind of MIDI port for the use of any MIDI drum machine in song creation mode. That sounds pretty serious! Although anyone with a drum machine probably has methods of music creation outside of <em>Guitar Hero</em>.<br /><br />Check their liveblog transcript for lots of exciting chat about <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero!</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-metallica-dlc-in-wii-guitar-hero-world-tour-midi-drums-co/">E308: Metallica DLC in Wii Guitar Hero World Tour, MIDI drums compatible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 11:45:00 EST. It's not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-before-q1-2009/"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a> but metal fans should still be excited about today's announcement (at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2008-keynote/">Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference</a>) that their next album, Death Magnetic, will be released as a <em>Guitar Hero III</em> and <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em> the same day it launches in stores this fall. Some details have been revealed about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>. To start things off, there will be 85 tracks shipped with the disc. A R.E.M. track pack from their newest album will contain three songs. Metallica will be debuting their latest album both in stores and on <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em> on the same day. Van Halen and the Eagles will both be exclusive to the title. A GH Tunes feature was also announced, which will allow users to upload their musical content for sharing, and act as a means for players to get ahold of new content for the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/guitar-hero-world-tour-recruits-exclusives-van-halen-the-eagle/">Guitar Hero: World Tour recruits exclusives Van Halen, the Eagles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 18:30:00 EST. <br />Even though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-pushes-play-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a> is barely off the tour bus, Activision has already announced a second band-centric <em>Guitar Hero</em> game: <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>. The news was buried deep within an Activision financial report from the weekend, though details are sparse -- all we know is that the game will release during the current fiscal year (which ends on March 31st, 2009), and will "likely follow" the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>. Whether it will use the various instruments that <em>World Tour</em> will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/guitar-hero-4-adds-new-instruments-turns-features-up-to-eleven/">introduce</a> is a mystery, as are which platforms it will appear on.<br /><br />It's not the first time that the <strike>aging anti-piracy campaigners</strike> heavy metal quartet has appeared in a <em>Guitar Hero</em> title, of course -- <em>Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock</em> featured the excellent (and <em>finger-busting</em>) "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwW9L_qzqp8">One</a>". Some Metallica tracks that <em>don't make us sob with their sheer, brain-addling difficulty </em>would be welcomed in the Fanboy HQ.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/metallica-to-become-guitar-heroes/">Metallica to become Guitar Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 11:45:00 EST. Wedbush Morgan analyst -- no, not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/michael-pachter">that one</a> -- Edward Woo uncovered some interesting news after sifting through an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a> SEC filing this week. According to the filing (via <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6191921.html">Gamespot</a>), the company plans to launch <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em> in Fiscal 2009, which, for Activision, is anytime between now and March 31, 2009. <br /><br />No other details are known about the game other than its existence. Will it be guitar-only or multi-instrumental <em>a la</em> the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero World Tour</a></em>? Regardless, we're guessing that long-awaited new single won't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/metallica-in-talks-to-debut-new-single-as-rock-band-dlc/">debut on <em>Rock Band</em></a> anymore.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-before-q1-2009/">Guitar Hero: Metallica coming before Q1 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 16:15:00 EST.
