Bounced your booty through the entire Dance Central catalog? Fret not, for Harmonix has announced three new tracks are headed to the game as DLC. James Brown's "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine, Pt. 1," Sean Paul's "Get Busy" and Lloyd's "Get It Shawty" can be downloaded for 240 MS Points ($3) each come August 16.

These tracks are the latest in a slow trickle of DLC that has supplemented the game since its launch alongside Microsoft's Kinect peripheral back in November.
Three new tracks coming to Dance Central on August 16 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 00:00:00 EST. Wired has a fascinating (if a little long) read up about how Microsoft's Kinect hardware is changing the robotics industry. For a long time, robotics has been held back, not by technology that defines how robots move, but by a lack of understanding of their environments -- a robot that can't "see" or recognize its surroundings won't have any idea where to go. Most solutions to this problem were too expensive or unwieldy to use in a lot of robotics applications.

But the Kinect has made that much easier, providing what's basically a sub-$500 kit that can recognize humans, their movements and almost any other objects around the room. And while Kinect hacks first began as a push by unofficial open source engineers, Microsoft has more or less made that kind of stuff official, both by providing developer kits for programmers and by supporting community mods.

So let it be known: Just a few years from now, when Skynet is chasing you down after capturing your loved ones to work in the slave camps, it'll be thanks to Kinect that those robots can see and hunt you while moving across the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Kinect helping robots see and recognize environment originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 21 Jun 2011 03:00:00 EST. Even though nothing's come of that Kinect-compatible Gears of War rumor, it doesn't mean Bleszinski isn't open to devloping with Microsoft's peripheral in mind. He told IndustryGamers that while he'd like to give it a go, it's really an issue of time and money. Isn't that always the case?

"If I had unlimited amounts of time and a team I could sit down and make a cool Kinect game, and I would love to, but it's a matter of time and opportunity costs right now," he said. While we knew long ago there wouldn't be any Kinect functionality in Gears of War 3, we fully expect something down the line. As one of Microsoft's most successful franchises on Xbox, we wouldn't count the series out after the release of its third game this September. But as of right now, there isn't any indication to suggest that a Kinect-compatible Gears is more than just a brilliant idea bouncing around the internet's collective noggin.
Bleszinski would 'love' to make a Kinect game originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Jun 2011 19:30:00 EST. Binary Domain, Sega's upcoming third-person shooter set in Japan in 2080, relies heavily on voice commands to coordinate actions with your squad. While demoing the functionality on a PS3 dev kit with a headset, we asked if the Xbox 360 version would support Kinect for these voice commands. "We plan on supporting Kinect," Sega's Jun Yoshinoro confirmed with Joystiq.

You can look for our preview direct from E3 later this week. Binary Domain is currently slated to launch in February 2012.
Binary Domain will support Kinect for voice commands originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 08 Jun 2011 15:40:00 EST. Microsoft would have you believe that everything is better with a Kinect sensor (just having it near you makes you sexier!), but in terms of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, it's like a real thing. A listing on Xbox.com shows Kinect branding, though no other details were offered.

Voice commands? Ubisoft has done it in the past. Facial recognition? Ubisoft has done it in the past. Fancy Kinect-enabled menu navigation? Ubisoft has done it in the past. It's all specualation, of course. We reached out to Ubisoft, but were given the boilerplate "no comment" response.
We knew it was coming, but Microsoft has finally gotten around to confirming the news: Hulu Plus will officially launch on the Xbox 360 tomorrow, April 29. Not only will it feature Kinect support, but it will also be free to all Xbox 360 users (Gold and Silver) for the first week thanks to a partnership with Jack Link's Beef Jerky. And to think, your mom said consuming so much beef jerky would never benefit you in the end. Shows what she knows.

After that free week, feel free to indulge in another free week by going on over to the Hulu Plus page -- just don't tell anybody we tipped you off! We're afraid you'll have to pony up some cash after that if you want to continue to use the service: $7.99 a month.
Finally, a chance to re-enact our favorite scene from Big -- and also watch two guys recreate it! The latest Kinect Hack is simply called Keyboard Anywhere, an apt title because that's pretty much what it does. You can size the keyboard based on your space -- the video past the break shows it being applied to several different surfaces, including a desk and the floor. Hit the jump to see it in action.
Continue reading Kinect Hacks: Keyboard Anywhere slaps a keyboard almost anywhere

Kinect Hacks: Keyboard Anywhere slaps a keyboard almost anywhere originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 00:30:00 EST. These Kinect hacks just keep getting better and better. This latest is from YouTube user TakayukiFukatsu and turns him invisible. The Kinect launch was pretty much dominated by one third-party publisher: Ubisoft. Despite plenty of announcements at TGS and that Star Wars game, there isn't much on the docket from the bigger third-party devs. THQ's Danny Bilson promised on Twitter earlier today that would change.

"We will be announcing one Core Kinect game soon," Bilson wrote in a missive. This followed an earlier tweet where Bilson promised a "big game announcement" at the upcoming VGAs, but it's likely he's referring to the Guillermo Del Toro game (again) and not this Kinect title. Regardless, we've followed up with THQ for comment and will let you know what we find out.
THQ to announce 'one core Kinect game soon' originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 21:15:00 EST. You're in for quite the piping-hot treat of justice today, as the Xbox 360 Fancast crew find themselves in rare form for the 190th episode of this podcasting institution. There's plenty of punny taglines for our coffee-themed super hero we've concocted in our noggins, but there's also talk of this Xbox 360 video games console thing, as well -- specifically, about how well Kinect has been doing and how much fun it is to stab your friends. Download and listen, lest you allow the Borgia to win!
So you bought a new Xbox 360 S console bundled with Kinect last week and, like many others, found your new camera doodad doesn't come with its own power supply -- clearly, Microsoft thought you intended to use your Kinect with this console and this console alone. You were up the proverbial creek, sans paddle ... until now.

Microsoft's online store now has a listing for the power supply. No, you can't simply get one on the arm since you purchased the Xbox 360 S bundle -- no, instead you've got to reach into your wallet for $34.99 if you want one. That's almost one whole fifth of the cost of Kinect on its own but, hey, if you need one, now you know where to get it.
Kinect standalone power supply now available from Microsoft originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 09 Nov 2010 06:00:00 EST. You don't have to tell Mark Wahlberg how to have a good time. The man is well versed in pleasant recreational activities, which made him the perfect candidate for a new program from Microsoft, who will donate Xbox 360 consoles and Kinect to the the Boys and Girls Club of America. "When I heard Xbox 360 wanted to give Kinect to Clubs across the country, I had to jump in and help," he said. The promotion is part of the Boys and Girls Club's initiative to promote exercise and healthy activity amongst youth. During an interview with Joystiq at a Kinect pre-launch event in San Francisco, Microsoft Games Studios veep Phil Spencer told us that early retail indication for Kinect is showing strong interest in the new platform. "Pre-order numbers are good," he said. "The retail channel seems to be excited for what we're doing. We feel good about our supply that we can build. I imagine we're going to have to work hard to fill out the demand that's out there, is kind of our sense, but we're willing to work hard so that's fine."

It's good to hear Microsoft is willing to put the work in, since Ubisoft's VP of sales and marketing, Tony Key, thinks the device will be "sold out" at launch. You can look forward to our full interview with Spencer on Monday, which discusses everything from the upcoming Kinect launch to Xbox 360 S dominance in North America over the past four months, and even the PlayStation Move.
Phil Spencer: Kinect pre-order numbers are 'good,' Microsoft will 'work hard to fill out the demand' originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 22 Oct 2010 17:40:00 EST. One of the ways Your Shape: Fitness Evolved plans on keeping players motivated and encouraging interactivity is with the Your Shape Center, an online portal that not only provides feedback on your own progress but allows players to motivate each other through custom challenges. An example given was setting a certain number of calories users would need to burn over a predetermined amount of time. Then through the online portal, you could see which of your friends completed or failed the custom challenge in question.

It's a motivational tool Ubisoft hopes will keep users engaged over the long run. For a brief overview of Your Shape Center, stretch your clicking finger and head on past the break.
Kinect adopters won't be limited to spending face time with just each other come launch, as Marc Whitten, Xbox Live general manager, has confirmed the sensor will interact with Windows Live Messenger on PCs. "I'm also excited to confirm that Video Kinect will integrate with Windows Live Messenger at launch, so Xbox Live members can video chat with hundreds of millions of PC users around the world," he said in a press announcement.

However, it appears the cross-platform functionality will be limited to video chat. Hey, you UK folks may not have Netflix over there, but you've got the next best thing: Sky Player. Eurogamer reports that Kinect voice commands -- one of the most lauded pieces of functionality in the upcoming Microsoft peripheral -- are coming to the Sky Player streaming service. Even better, the two will play nice right at Kinect launch in Europe, on November 10.

According to Eurogamer, users will be able to use voice commands to pause, rewind, fast-forward, play and stop, much like the integration detailed back during E3, though there's currently no official word from Sky Player. We're currently reaching out and will let you know what we hear back.
Xbox Live's Sky Player to support Kinect voice commands originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 21:30:00 EST.
Wondering why we didn't see a Kinect version of Guitar Hero or a Move-enabled Call of Duty at E3? COO Thomas Tippl told Gamasutra it's because Activision is hesitant to dive into the motion market, mostly due to the high price point of Move and expected high price of Microsoft's Kinect.

"I think as a publisher, you have to be concerned about how the price drives a lot of the outcome of how big of an install base there's going to be," he said. "The bigger the install base, the more likely that you can make sense out of your investment. So, the lower the price, the better. In this economic environment, it's probably more important than ever." He makes a solid point: a lot of the driving power (not all) behind Nintendo's Wii has been its low price point, which many feel has helped sell the idea of motion-based gaming to the mainstream -- the exact audience both Microsoft and Sony are trying to captivate with their new motion control tech.

Tippl also added that, while this new tech affords interesting new opportunities for developers and third-party publishers, it's not an experience suited for every type of game, yet he feels it could benefit some of Activision's brands. "We have a few franchises where we think this could be an interesting value to improve the experience for the player. Tony Hawk is an example. We have our Rapala Fishing franchise. But it's not going to be something that will be in every game, because I don't think it's one size fits all. It's not going to enhance the experience for every game."
Activision not fully supporting Move/Kinect, wary of high prices originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 14:00:00 EST.
